Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 3, Episode 3 - A Bluefin for Boo - full transcript

Unpredictable waters continue to cause problems for boats in their battle for bluefin tuna in the Outer Banks. Captain Britton Shackelford is in for the fight of his life as a family member...

On this episode
of Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

Got him on.
Got him on!

We got one.
Got him on!

Look at him go, baby!
Got him on!

Definitely leaking.

If I lose my
hydraulics right now
I'll lose my steering.

Oh, we're
pissing it, dude.

Tyler and
TJ are under pressure.

Get a good shot.
Get a good shot!
He's right there, Dad.

You shut up already!
God!

And Britton
faces the fight of his life.

My priorities
have gotten to where my
priorities need to be.

How precious life is.

Oh.
It broke everything!

Golly dang.

- Woah. Wow.
- Wow! Woo!

This is
Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

Last season's
champion Fishin' Frenzy
has a narrow lead over

newcomer Foolish Pleasures.

While Hot Tuna, Doghouse
and Reels of Fortune lag
behind with one fish each

and northern boats Pinwheel
and Hard Merchandise have
yet to land a fish.

Oh come on!

I got to catch a tuna.

I'm like having withdrawals.

My fishing game is
not on point right now.

It's been a
rough season so far.

We haven't landed a fish yet,
I just drove 700 miles to come
down to the Outer Banks to

catch tunas and its very
important that I put that
first fish on the deck and

start paying some expenses.

Yo. Yo.
Mother lode.

- Huh?
- Mother lode.

Oh yeah.

The Tuna God down here
is the same Tuna God I've been
praying to up in Gloucester

for years and years.

I'm just hoping he shines
a little light on me and
starts putting some

paychecks on my deck.

We're in the spot, bud.

What was that?

- Oh no.
- What?

The binoculars
just broke in half.

We could
each use one now.

Oh man.

This would have
been so good with our eyes
before, dude.

We're
just like, huh?

That sucks, dude.

That would have been.

Which eye is that?

- Whoa! Yahoo!
- Whoo!

Yeah, baby!

There he is, baby!

Yeah. Got him on!

Got a double! Got a double!
Double!

Got the double hook up
like what we wanted.

It's what
we've been waiting for.

Got him on the stick.
Big bite.

Got him on.

Oh lost him.

I don't know what the
heck happened there.

Oh. We had the double
just what we wanted.

At least we got
the one still on here.

- Just keep tight.
- Yeah.

So rough in the tide.

It's not fair.

Is he there?

- Yeah.
- Where's the poly?

I can't
see the ball yet.

Stretched way out.

Not seeing the poly ball yet.

There's two things that
can happen here when you can't
see the poly ball.

You either got a really big
tuna that's holding that poly
ball underwater or you parted

it off and that fish is gone
and tooken that poly ball to
God knows where.

Yo, maybe he's got
it down be easy.

There's the breaker.

- Nice.
- Yeah he's on, buddy.

Stay easy on him.
Yeah, he's
definitely there.

That's our guy
that's what we want.

About a hundred yards or so.

I'm just nervous cause
we can't catch anything we
just keep losing them.

We'll get this one.

This is
what we need, bro.

Still don't
see the poly ball.

Dude, what's he doing?
What's he doing?
Is he dumping it?

Straight
down right now man.

Still looking
for the poly ball.

Maybe he's gone.

What'd we break one off there?

- Yup.
- What?

Oh my God.

He broke us off.

There's the poly ball.

And there
was some chafe, too.

Yup.
Let's head back
out, we lost him.

We had to have
just lost a monster.

Go figure.
Just our luck.

If we could've caught
that fish it would've been
a huge morale booster.

Come on!

We can't catch a break.

All right man, we'll
give a prayer this morning.

Everybody
needs it and we're gonna do it.

Lord, we'll come
before you this morning.

Headed
out here to the east.

I wanna thank you
for that sunshine.

We're looking at our morning
star the one that we're
blessed to look at.

We're thankful for this
ocean that we all love so much.

I want to thank you
for each and every boat
coming out here this morning.

I want you to keep them safe.

We're pretty die
hard about making sure that
there is a prayer said over

the radio in the morning.

Trying to acknowledge
where it all comes from.

Lord, I want you to bless
everybody with a catch.

We're just workers.

That's all we are and we do
better when we just put our
head down and grind.

When Britton makes
that morning prayer for the
whole fleet you can't help but

get a little bit choked up.

That's definitely
something I don't see back
home in Gloucester.

Watch
us as we go in this evening.

Watch those loved ones that
we have back on the beach.

Keep them all safe, watch
out for them till we can
gather back together and

put our arms around them.

Anybody got anything
particular they want
to lift up this morning?

Shout it out.

You know we're
always thinking about Boo.

Always thinking
about baby girl, old Boo.

My family's nickname for
my daughter Ginger is Boo.

Boo was diagnosed November
23rd with Hodgkin's Lymphoma
and she's going through chemo

right now while we're fishing.

Very hard on her,
very hard on us.

I ask Lord that you
grant peace to my daughter.

I know for Britton to
get out of bed in the morning
and get dressed and leave that

house and leave his daughter
behind is got to be some of
the hardest stuff he's ever

had to do in his
life thus far.

Thank
you for how things are going.

I can only imagine
you know how hard it is to go
through something like that

but they're fighting it,
they're not giving up
and hopefully things

will improve for them.

And I wish them all the
best that's for sure.

Had a hard road.
That road's not over.

Of course Chemo,
it would kill me.

She just kind of grits
her teeth and bears it.

She has no fear you know,
ultimately the healing
is in God's hands and

I need to go to work.

Lord, we ask these and all
things in Christ's holy
precious name,

the sweet name of Jesus, Amen.

Amen.

Amen, Shack.

Being productive
right now with the bills
that are gonna be coming is

very, very important.

You know fishing used to be
everything but my priorities
have shifted this year.

And I think my priorities
have gotten to where my
priorities need to be.

Just recognizing
how precious life is.

That's the important
stuff, that's the great stuff.

Better than a
windshield wiping hobo.

Yeah, we'll have to
clean these rigs up one day.

Here I
might clean.

I'll get out of your way, man.

Look out.

We have been beating it
up out here harder than
anybody and it has paid off.

We are in second place
now and we are only one
fish behind Frenzy.

Not too bad for
the new kid in town.

You feel like Key Lime
Pie Martini tonight?

I do.

Some guys like to drink
whiskey and beer but we prefer
the finer things in life.

They make a Key
Lime Pie Martini.

It's got cracker
crumbs around the glass.

Oh man, I've been
having a problem with that.

You don't wanna drink
too many of them, but
they're delicious.

If I could double fist
them things tonight I would.

Tonight I'm gonna be
drinking me
Key Lime Pie Martini.

That's the only way I'm
gonna be able to sleep good.

Jacked up baby.

Hopefully we can catch
some fish right out the gate.

We've gotten off to a
hot start and we really
haven't slowed down a bit.

The other captains are
behind us, they're chasing us
and they better get used to

it 'cause the tuna are
gonna find that red boat.

I'd like to catch
20 fish this year.

If this quota keeps going
like it's going now with just
a few fish caught every day,

as long as we spend
some time out here we
could easily catch 20 fish.

We're part way there
we're working on it.

That's gonna get him!

Here they
are, right here!

Here they are.

Look at them right
here, look at this.
That's a big one.

That was a
big fish I saw.

Fish right here.

Jigging is all about
getting those squids to dance.

It's kind of a rhythm.

You kind of got to watch
the squids, get them hopping.

And, usually I can get a bite.

Come on.

Here they are again,
there's a couple more up here.

See how happy we can
make those tunas today,
we'll send them on a

one-way trip to Tokyo.

Come on, baby!

There he is.
There he is!

We got a bite.
Pow, goes the breaker!

Number four.

I knew we'd get
a bite out here.

Something
happened to my deck reel here.

I can't get it to come on.

Dammit.

Shut it off
and turn it back on.

There it is.

I don't know what happened
there he might've got away.

I think he got off.

Come off?

Son of a bitch.

- That pisses me off.
- I'm sorry.

Something
happened to my deck reel here.

There it is.

I don't know what happened
there he might've got away.

I think he got off.

Come off?

Son of a bitch.

That pisses me off.

I'm sorry.

There he goes,
what a surprise.

Okay, boys.

Now we can go to work.

We put that ball on
there just some extra drag you
don't have to worry about

fighting them so
much on the reel.

He's pulling on that thing,
it's constant drag and it just
wears that fish out.

All right, we're
gonna look at it here.

Yeah!

There we go.

That's
what I like to see.

Nice fish.

He's
definitely getting the dart.

He turned!

We got him this time.

All right here he comes.
He's coming right through you.

He's coming around.
Here he comes.
Here he comes.

Oh dammit!

Worse than TJ.

Again! Son of bitch.

Damn dart!
Just get a gaff in him.

Right here I got him.
Gaff.

Got him.

Okay.
He's ours let him back.

Woo!

All right,
buddy pretty work.

Tuna. Tuna. Tuna.

Nice.
Nice fish.

What we got?

87 and a half, Billon.

Oh, baby!
Come on.

It sure wasn't the
prettiest catch we've had but
he's on deck.

If we keep this up,
no one's gonna catch us.

Captain, we
keep catching these fish...

you're gonna be
able to afford to
pay me what I'm worth.

Don't talk
about money near, Billon.

Yeah.
He doesn't know
we're getting paid.

I thought this
was an apprenticeship.

That's right.

I'm back, baby,
try to make some mullah.

We've only caught
one keeper Bluefin so
far this season,

while some other boats
have caught two or three.

We're all disappointed.

I mean we need to get out.

We need to get
some fish for sure.

Why is it so
shallow right here?

I hate this.

We'll get up here and
take a look at it and see what
it looks like here.

I think TJ can get a
little complacent sometimes.

You're not catching
fish at the docks.

So you got to get out there.

If I don't feel
safe going through
there I ain't doing it.

Fishing down
here in the Outer Banks.

It's not for the weak
at heart, you know,
it plays in your head.

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday.

It's
taking on water!

She's gonna roll!

That's the scary thing about
fishing here that could've
been us right there.

It could happen to
anyone at any time.

That Inlet is about
as gnarly as it gets.

We only have one fish
'cause we're sitting at the
dock instead of fishing.

Mainly it's
because of the Inlet.

It's been keeping TJ
in more than he likes.

But, you know, that's his
job so he's got to do it.

If the other boats get
through, the other commercial
boats that are like similar to

us then we should be
able to get through it.

Getting a little
squirrely here.

Yup.

Hold on.

He's got
this one this guy.

Whoa.

Watch.

Dad, I'm doing
my best here, man.

Hold on.

Watch this one.

Dad, I'm trying
my best here, man.
I know you are.

You're scaring
the out of me.

This ain't
that bad. I've seen
a lot worse than this.

Oh, yeah, but just one
bad one you know the deal.

That's it, right?

Yeah.

Whose idea was this anyway?

I love when my father's
here even though the tension
gets a little high on the boat

he pushes my
brother to fish harder.

He handed the
reigns off to TJ.

So he expects
that out of TJ also.

You know he's just got
to show what he can do,
fish hard and hopefully

it works out for him.

I got Captain
Ballbuster tag years ago.

You know, I let TJ
make most of the calls...

and do you know, most of
the stuff now, but uh...

I'm not
gonna say I give all the
captain's job though, so.

TJ, let me take over.

Ugh.

I'm sure he feels
a little uncomfortable
when I'm onboard

but that's his problem not mine.

This chair's comfortable.

Very tough day.

My mind here in the past
couple of months has been a
long way away.

This particular winter,
Britton has a lot on his plate
as far as his daughter,

diagnosed with cancer and to
be totally honest with you,

I don't know how
he's juggling it.

Family man, dealing with his
daughter, boats, dealing with
the whole fishing deal.

You get a fish
and you kind of focus.

I'm too scattered right now.

Five minutes without a bite
and just start thinking about
things anyway and just.

Life's short.

We just got to keep going.

Keep living, keep
laughing, and loving.

It's, it was a tough
goin' when I figured out that
she had cancer you know,

she, we're 18 months apart
she's always been right there.

She's got a huge heart.

You know she'll do
anything for you.

We were all kind of
questioning why it was her,
why her?

Why not me?

You know and she looked
right at us one day and
said "You know what?

I'm glad it's me and not
somebody else who's not as
strong as me."

As hard as it is for
us to be out here fishing my
family knows that we have to

support everything going on at
home and they support us just
as much as we support them.

Fishing is important.

Just got to do
some work on 'em.

Oh, there's a mark.

Solid mark underneath
me here, I mean solid.

Good luck.

Across the screen.

You know
Doghouse is one of the
best guys down here.

He's a great fisherman; he's
a great guy, big family man.

Awesome.

He's going through some
hardships right now and I wish
him the best and the prayers

are with him.

Come on baby girl.

We need some luck.

Oh, come on,
Lord, give me something here.

We're about to
get a bite right here.

Whoa.

- What was that?
- Broke everything!

What the hell happened?

I don't know,
Caine! Golly dang!

Come on, Lord,
give me something here.

We're about to
get a bite right here.

- Whoa.
- What was that?

Broke everything!

- Golly dang!
- What the hell happened?

I don't know, Caine.
We broke the mainline.

Maybe
he's on the bird.

Dang it!

I hope that fish is still on.

We got to find the bird.

Crank that in!
Crank that, crank that in.

When you hook
up on the greenstick,
the breakaway is supposed

to snap away from the mainline.

In this instance, the mainline
broke instead of the
breakaway,

allowing the fish to take
off with all of our gear.

We have to find our
bird and poly ball and hope
the fish is still on the line.

There's the poly ball!

Just put the clip
from the bird on it.

Okay. Okay.

Crank it up,
then we'll reverse it.

Come down here,
somebody come down here and
hold this,

so I don't lost it.

Put your gloves on, wrap
'em, here you go, here,
here right here Britton

right here, right here.

Help me out here
Austin, pull that slack.
Pull that slack!

Grip it on
before we lose it.

I need some
help over here somehow.

Trying to hold
this line so they can.

Come, put these gloves
I'm gonna hold this line.

See what you got.

Come on, Caine.

Get that buoy
out the way, Austin.

Back on the bandit
somehow or another.

I hope
that fish is still on.

Just as quick as you hook up
a poly ball and your gear
the very next thought in

your mind is I hope the
fish is still on there.

I think he's on there.

Do you see it?

Can't tell.
Can't tell.

There he is.
There he is.

Hell yeah he's on there.

I can't believe
you mean he's on there.

Cross your
fingers on this one, Austin.

We need to get lucky for once.

Had a mark.

Got a bite
that broke my main line.

Lucky we still got it on.

Oh, good
Shack's got a bite.

Shack's got a bite right here.

Got your
darts ready, Bubba?

Need some luck.
Be on our side.

Too much going on land
to have anything go out
here in the water.

Give us a break baby.

Give us a break.

All right here he is.

Forward. Forward.
Forward. Forward.

You got
an eyeball on her?

I see color but I
can't tell what it is.

Woo!

Forward!

Come on baby girl.

Come on
boys, we need this one!

Forward!

Ah it's small.

Way short, that
fish is way short.

Oh. Dang it!

If I can
get his hook out.

All right.

Get it.

Short.

Too small.

Golly dang man!

Doggone it.

We overcome obstacles
and got everything back.

It's pretty
much a kick in the gut.

Boy, that was violent.

Sheesh man, one them staying
on there, it was just 66 or
7 something like that.

Not quite big enough.

Ugh, dammit, man.

Shoot, man. Destroyed me.

That sucks, man.

He needs a fish.

It hurts that
it wasn't a keeper.

We came out here to
fish and try to make a
paycheck for my sister.

If we don't go home
with a fish, I'm gonna feel
like we failed our family.

You never know
what's gonna happen out here.

We'll regroup tomorrow.

I got to get
some of the insurance
bills off of my back here.

So, what do you
got for me today, fellas?

Nice fish, 87-incher.

- Wow.
- Awesome.

It feels great to
get our fourth fish in.

Coming in to this trip,
we didn't have a very big lead
over the Foolish Pleasures,

so we're hoping for a good
price to increase the gap.

All right, what
do we got there?

324 pounds dressed.

All right!
That's bigger
than I thought it was.

- Yes, sir.
- Wow.

Look how
oily this tail is.

The meat is like
actually glycerinated
because it's so oily.

Nice.
Wow.
Nice.

Okay.
Let's see what the
core looks like too.

20 minutes.
Oh, wow.
Holy cow look at that.

That is beautiful.
That's as
good as they get.

Yeah.
Yeah this is
definitely one of the best

Carolina Winter
Bluefins I've seen.

Our first
fish of the season
got us $25 a pound.

And this fish looks like
it could be even better.

What are we gonna
get paid for it?

$28 a pound.

Twenty eight?

I'd say we're
off to a good start.

- Yes, sir!
- Well-done Frenzy.

Go catch 'em up.

- Thank you.
- Good job guys.

This fish has
definitely given us some
breathing room between us

and the rest of the fleet.

Once again, we're proving
we're the boat to beat.

I think we're off to
a damn good start.

Cold. Dark.

Waiting to see what happens.

Too cold.
The bait won't thaw out.

We're the only
ones out here hopefully
we can capitalize

and gain some ground on Frenzy.

We heard Frenzy
got his fourth fish and
we ain't happy about it.

Stay out of here, Greg.

He ain't from
around here. New Jersey.

We are definitely in a
competition here with Frenzy.

He's trying to
hold on to his title.

And we're trying to
take it away from him.

A little bit harder
sometimes at night trying
to catch these things.

If we can get a couple
a day, and some luck and
get on some of these fish.

We got a real good
shot at taking the lead.

Hey, Dale?

Are you still
marking anything?

Marking a pile of 'em.

Dude!
Fish on!
We got 'em?

We got him on.
We got him on!

Got him on! Got
him on! Get him boys!

In the dark on the bait!

Dude!
Fish on!
We got 'em?

We got him on.
We got him on!

We are hooked up and
this could put us right back
on Frenzy's heels.

Oh, we got him on
the bait this morning.

Left a couple rods out there
last night hoping to get a
drifter bite.

Got him on.

Making money
24/7 on this boat.

Feels like a good fish.

Took a lot of line.

If we can kill this
fish and get a paycheck
it'll be phenomenal.

Hang on, Dale.

45 minutes before sunrise.

Don't matter
if there's any other
boats out here...

as long as
there's tunas out here.

Starboard, Dale!
Starboard. Come on!

Let me get on for a second.

Oh, yeah.

It's definitely
harder fighting a fish at
night because you can't

see your surroundings.

You don't know
exactly where that fish is.

Your visibility is
certainly hindered.

Forward, Dale.

I can't really see what
they're doing until they get
underneath the lights here.

Just stay right
where you are, Dale!

Hang on, Dale, hang on.

Hang on.

Get the gaff.

Just stick him come on.

One, two, three.

Come on.

Keeper!
We did it.

This is why
we come out here.

- Yeah.
- Hell yeah.

All right,
what is it right there?

Bout 73 and a quarter.

- 73 and a quarter.
- Nice.

We closed the deal on
this fish and we are psyched.

- Got a paycheck.
- Yeah baby!

We are gonna celebrate
and it's gonna start with a
Key Lime Pie Martini.

Garcon, my beverage please.

Yes sir, right away sir.

Yar!

It's so good when
it hits your lips.

Fishing was
extremely slow yesterday.

So you know we, it can
only get better really.

I mean it can't get any worse.

We haven't caught
a fish yet and it's
concerning with dad being here.

I want to prove to him
that we can make a profit
here in the Outer Banks.

We're gonna pray that we
find some sign and we're
able to make it happen.

This ain't
looking too sporty.
No.

This ain't what we want
to be seeing right now.

No.

It's up to the captain to
put us on some fish and that's
what he expects me to do

and right now I ain't doing it.

We're not
losing all hope just yet.

Being a captain on a Bluefin
boat is a very, very odd job.

You got a lot of pressure
on you like when you don't
have any fish on board

and you know you're not
making the right moves.

It's very, very stressful.

You know I feel bad for him
sometimes 'cause it's a lot,
a lot of guessing.

So hopefully he
makes the right call.

This could change in five
minutes, no, five seconds,
you know what I mean?

Next thing you got
a fish hanging on so
hopefully we'll hook one.

I got a real
good mark right here.

- Marking 'em.
- Yeah, there they go.

There they are.

Got a down hook!

Put it on the hydraulics.

That's a real one.

We're on.

Jarrett,
take a hold of it.

Hold it down.

Looks like
we got a good on here.

You all right?
You need a fresh arm?

Want to get on it, dad?

- Who's up next?
- I'll get on there.

Come on.

Dad, you might
want to stand back.

Watch this wave.

I was saying stand back.

Come on.
Come on.

Looks like we
got a good fish on here.

Bubby's doing good, took
out a lot of line but we
haven't seen it yet.

We need this fish.

What in the world?

Wow.
There's change
of forecast or something?

I think so.
I think they've updated it.

Too windy.

This wind and tide's just
making it so difficult for us
to stay on top of this fish.

So he's just down there kind
of sideways doing his thing
and we can't gain on him.

Good job, Jarrett.

I see color.

Color dad.

Dad I can't see the
line, I can't see the line.

Dad I can't see the line.

Wait get a good
shot, get a good shot.

I am gonna
get a good shot but
he's straight down, TJ.

Okay. Hit him.
Hit him.

Oh, god over
the back of him.

You missed.
Throw it.

All right throw it!
He's right there.
He's right there, dad.

Oh, god!
You got him!
You got him!

I got him. Will
you shut up already? God.

Get on the head
Michael, get on the head.

Michael, I.

Give me the gaff!
I can't get a hold of him.

What's he
yelling at me for?

Get a gaff.
Get a gaff!
Get a gaff.

I got it
just get a gaff!

You don't have it in the bag.

You're like a baby!
Like a two year old.

I ain't a two-year-old.
I asked you to get
him in the head.

Yeah. Okay.

Got one on!

Yeah, nice work guys.

That's a good one
for down here, man.

That's a good sized fish.

It was absolute
hair puller though man.

30 knots of wind,
5 knots of tide.

I don't know if it
gets much more of an epic
battle than that down here

in the Outer Banks.

Yeah, he's a big fish.
Nice shape on him.

That's a nice
one, perfect size.

- 95.
- Nice.

Wow that's
almost eight feet long.

We finally got the monkey
off our back and got our
second fish of the season.

I just hope this fish
restores dad's confidence
in us and especially me.

I'm happy.
I'm stoked.

I'm glad I came out, I'm glad
I came, you know, came here to
fish with the boys,

we had a lot of fun and
hope we get another one.

A little bit
hectic at the end.

A little bit of yelling
but we got a beautiful fish.

The tuna gods are
watching out for us today man.

Phew.
Pa-pow.

Uh, I don't
even know where to go.

I'm
gonna hit bottom.

After yesterday's
defeat and losing two fish.

There's nothing more
than I want to do than to be
back on the water today cause

the Pinwheel's
crying for a tuna.

Come on tuna gods.

Breaking all the way
across the bar right now.

Dude, looks gnarly.

Wow it is white
water all the way across.

You hear that?

You hear
that whining out of my helm?

Yeah, it
doesn't sound good, dude.

Why is it whining?
Listen to the whining.

I've never heard
your boat whine like this.

Put your
head down in the bathroom.

Dude, I don't
know what that is.

What's up
with my steering?
Your steering?

Yeah, I think
something's wrong
with my hydraulics.

Yo, go open up the top
cap and see if there's fluid.

Yeah, okay.

If I lose my
hydraulics right now.

I'll lose my steering.

I definitely
don't wanna see that.

It's a scary situation.

There's no way to
make it out into the
Gulf with no hydros.

There's been too many
boats lost out there.

It's too
dangerous to chance it.

Oh,
we're pissing it, dude.

Definitely leaking.

Look.

Blown a gasket.

Oh, yeah.

We're pissing so bad.

Definitely pretty gnarly.

Yo, dude, don't
go up in here with, if
there's hydro problems dude.

See we're gonna start
taking a couple breakers
dude, that's no joke, dude.

Wow!

We're like screwed.

If I lose my
hydraulics right now
I'll lose my steering.

We're breaking all the way
across the bar right now.

Yo, dude, don't go
up in here with, if there's
hydro problems dude.

See we're gonna start
taking a couple breakers dude.

That's no joke, dude.

Wow!

I'm gonna try and
turn us around.

Where's
your hydraulic fluid?

The hydraulic
fluid's down there.

So we're gonna just keep
adding, adding, adding and
keep the pump lubricated.

It's a scary dangerous place.

They don't call this place
the graveyard of the North
Atlantic for no reason.

I'm just trying to
keep the, the hydros full.

We're gonna
have serious trouble.

Thinking about getting
in the water, losing
power in the Inlet.

Us getting
sideways rolling over.

Getting wet, 47 degree water.

You better get up on the
sandbar quick cause you're
gonna freeze.

There's nothing worse
than having a breakdown in
the middle of the fishing

season especially when
the fish are biting.

It's just sickening.

It's gonna cost us money to
fix this and we're gonna lose
out on fishing.

Yeah.

So that's gonna
give the rest of the
fleet a day in the water.

Where we're gonna be
stuck tied to the pier
because we're broke down.

Every single day that goes by
that I don't have a fish and
other boats are catching,

starting to make me
question why we're out here.

Because, you know,
as a captain I got
to maintain calm,

cool, and collected.

We just got to keep our
heads going and you know what?

Eventually the tuna gods
will come around and
give us some catches.

The tuna gods definitely
know how to train a person.

That's for sure, man.

How you guys doing?

We're doing good
man with this thing we
got a nice one for you.

Absolutely it
looks nice from here.

It was a very stressful
week but we landed a big
fish and hopefully we

get a big paycheck too.

Come on
Bubba, what we got?

440 pounds.

Nice one, huh Bubba?
Nice. Nice.
How bout that, Bubba.

That's a good one, that's the
biggest of the season so far.

Oh, that one was good.

Really good fatty fish.

We caught him
on the rod too man.

So this core
should be beautiful.

Let's check it out.

Oh, yeah, baby.

I got nothing
bad to say about this.

This is just really
all around, great fish.

You know what
that means, Bubba?

That means
Bubba's gonna pay.

Yes.

So what are you
thinking right now?

$20 a pound.

- Whoo!
- Yeah.

That's a good payday, cuz.

Yes it is.

We accomplished what we
came here for, you know, we
made a good day's pay you know

everyone made some money.

All right,
Bubba thank you man.

Bubba,
thank you very much.

- Yes.
- I'm happy.

TJ's happy he can relax
a little bit more now.

It gives you some more drive
to go back out tomorrow and
try and do it all over again.

We need like ten more
where those came from,
we'll be really stoked.

How about it Merch?
Standing by?

Yeah,
what's going on?

How are you, Britton?

I'm good.

How about
Nancy and the family?
Is everybody doing well?

Yes sir, they are.

Yes, thank you for asking.

Oh, jeez
you know I heard about your
daughter there and everything

and, uh, we're pulling for ya,
and we're pulling for the rest
of your family there.

Yeah, nobody's
got a corner on the market
on a, a tough time.

Yeah that's
right there, Britton.

That's right there.

Okay Dave,
it's great to see, ya.

Best of luck to you.

Likewise.
To you as well, Britton.
To you as well, thanks.

Not only us on
the Hard Merchandise but
the rest of the fleet is

pulling for Britton
to have a great season.

He's got
enough on his plate at home.

He needs to catch a few
fish more so than all of us.

Throw it over.

Get you a second one ready.

I need to make the
most of my time on the water.

My family's counting on me
and I can't let them down.

I need to catch a fish.

Give it all to Him and
let Him give it all to me.

Our time will come.
Got to be patient.

Come on.
Keep your eyes on now!

Squids are looking good
bouncing along pretty.

If I was a
Bluefin I'd eat one.

Fingers crossed.

Come on and
play boys, I dare you.

Oh, snap!
There it is.
There it is, boys!

Got him on baby!

Fingers crossed.

Come on and
play boys, I dare you.

Oh, snap!
There it is.
There it is, boys!

Got him on, baby!

Get the other side,
get the other side.

Get those
lines up Austin, we're on!

Oh, look
at him go baby!

Got him on!

He took it.
He took it, Cap.

He exploded
on that thing, cuz.

Sweet.

Just take your time.

Be a nice
one here Shack daddy.

We need this one.

Gonna be a nice
fish here I'm hoping.

Hopefully a
$4,000 or $5,000 fish.

Actually,
I ain't gonna say it.

Until
he's on the dock.

There's
Britton on the Doghouse.

It's good to see
he's got a fish going.

This takes
care of a lot of things.

You know my wife is with my
daughter and we got friends
helping out with my youngest

son and this would
go long, long way.

There he is.
There he is.

Got color.

That looks
like a good one.

Don't dart him yet.
Not yet.

Come on baby girl.
Come to papa.

Come to papa.
Come on play nice.

Play nice.

All right stick him!

Get him Austin.
Get him.

Throw the dart, throw it!

Forward! Forward! Forward!

I saw blood!

All right it
ain't over yet boys.

It is not over
until it's over.

Britton, you want to
come down between my legs?

Just pull him in now.

He ain't got much of a shot.

Get him through
my legs though.

Come on boys.

We need this one.

There you go.

All right I'm
coming behind you.

One two three, go.

Pretty work! Woo!

Look at the shape
on that thing, cuz.

Ice breaker, buddy.

Ice breaker.

All right boys,
moment of truth.

What you got Caine-O?

91 baby! 91.

Sweet we needed that.

Thank you, Lord.

This fish
right here means a lot.

Feels like a huge load has
been lifted off my shoulders.

Thank you.

Thank you, Boo.

Yeah, when
things get tight.

You just got to put your
blinders on and put your head
down and go to work.

91-incher.

I'm
really happy for, ya.

That's
awesome they got one.

Oh, yeah man. Pretty
work on your fish today.

A blessing
straight out of heaven
right in our lap.

Hopefully when we look
back it'll be a good season.

It'll be a happy, happy time.

Ahoy!

What's up guys?
What y'all got today?

- What's happening?
- What's happening?

- What's up?
- Back again.

We got three fish
to the buyer now.

We are hoping to get
top dollar on this fish.

What do we got?

Well, we
got 206 pounds.

- Nice.
- Not bad.

Let's get
a core sample.

See what she looks
like on the inside.

Yeah.
Let's check her out.

Oh, yeah.

Big money.
Big money.

Nice and translucent.
Pretty oily.

- Yeah, sweet.
- I like it, yeah.

It's
definitely got some fat in it.

The outer wall's
a little thin.

Money honey.

- Nice.
- What do you think?

Well guys, I
think $16 a pound will
make it worth y'alls while.

- That's good.
- Sweet absolutely man.

That's, that's awesome.
Thank you.
Great to see you.

Hell, yeah.

This paycheck may not
be enough to overtake the
Frenzy but that'll buy us

a couple of martinis.

Yeah.
What do you
guys got for me tonight?

Oh, we got a
nice one for you, Dennis.

We'd like to have the
other ones but we're
glad to have this one.

All right,
let's check it out.

You finally
get in that harbor.

It's like that relief comes
over you that there's gonna
be a paycheck coming.

All right what do
you got, Dennis?

303 dressed.

303.

A lot more
than I was thinking.

Well done guys,
let's see how she grades out.

Let's
check that core out.

That's gonna be
the telltale there.

Looks pretty nice.

I'm not seeing any yaki here.

This will brighten up pretty
good when it chills down.

Very nice.
What do you think?
What do you think?

- $15 a pound.
- Good job, guys.

A $5,000 fish
that's huge for us cause
we know that the doctor bills

are gonna be coming.

Let's go home.
Get some family time.

Yeah, I'm ready.

With their
fourth tuna, Fishin' Frenzy
maintains their lead.

And with the biggest fish of
the season so far, Hot Tuna
jumps into second place.

Meanwhile, Pin Wheel and
Hard Merchandise are both
still without a fish.

The tuna gods
mean everything to me, man.

We got to
make a sacrifice.

You might need
to take a little swim.

It's time for Duffy to
step up and make a sacrifice.

You're
jumping in the water?

This
water's like 40 degrees.

You look like the kid
from the Christmas Story
jumping in the water.

- Get in there.
- Here you go.

- He's going on in!
- Oh, my God!

Bingo! Yeah!

What in the world?

All right stop.

He's cold.

What was the, what
was the reasoning for that?
I don't know.
