Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 3, Episode 2 - Wicked Waters - full transcript

Known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic," the North Carolina coastline is littered with thousands of shipwrecks - a warning to all captains and crews that anything can go wrong at anytime, for anyone. As the bluefin season takes off, the treacherous waters of the Outer Banks claim another victim, and the Fishin' Frenzy and Hot Tuna are first on the scene.

North
Carolina's Outer Banks.

Hold on, boys!

Has a reputation
for destroying boats.

The commercial fishing boat
was struck by two freak waves.

And lives.

We need to
live to fight another day.

Watch out!

Pretty scary thing
to know that I might die
going home tonight.

Hang on.

Whoa!

Frenzy,
we're coming for ya!

Son of a bitch!

And on this episode
of Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

Get me a tuna!

A little
choppier than I expected.

These
treacherous waters.

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

Will
claim more victims.

It's going down,
unbelievable, terrible.

Survival suit.

It could
happen to any of us.

Oh, my God.

It's the worst thing you
ever wanna see in your life.

This is
Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

Reigning champion,
Fishin' Frenzy holds the lead.

But are challenged by
newcomer, Foolish Pleasures.

And Hot Tuna has yet to
weigh in their first catch.

Meanwhile, Reels Of Fortune,
Pinwheel, and Hard Merchandise
still need to get in the game.

Hey, Griff?

Yeah.

What time are you thinking
about pulling the plug?

I damn sure
ain't gonna spend
the night, you know.

So, whenever you guys wanna
leave, I'll leave with you.

Plenty good.
I'll do whatever
time you want to make.

Maybe we'll
get a pleasant surprise here
before the end of the day.

We'll see.

No luck today
for the Reels of Fortune.
Anyway.

Mayday!
Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

The boat's
filling with water...

and I ain't gonna
be able to stop it!

It's you taking on water?

Hit the back end of it!

We
won't be able to get off it!

Boat started to roll over!

He
said she's gonna roll!

Someone's
sinking, dude.

I tried to run the
water out of the hole...

but it's still comin' in!

You hear me, TJ?

Yeah, I'm
right here. I'm coming right at
you. What do you need me to do?

That
don't sound good.

How about
that high water alarm?
You hear that thing?

No.

I don't
know nothin' but to do,
but to keep float to it.

All right, I'm
right here, bro.
I ain't going nowhere.

I'm about four and
a half miles offshore.
I'm heading that way.

I do not have him on radar
yet, but I know where he is.

I'll be there in a few.

I got him.
I'm right here
next to him, guys.

So, see if I can get on
there and help him out.

I'm gonna
ask Lord that you...

watch out
for everybody.

Lord,
we ask that you be with
our commercial brothers.

But we know, Lord that
you can make it good just
as quick as it gets bad

and we thank you for that.

He's taking on water.
He's sinking.

Hey, I can't, I
can't steer or nothing!

There's a
hole right there?

Yeah!

Taking on water.
He says he can't stop it.

Oregon Inlet Coast
Guard, Fishin' Frenzy.

Fishin' Frenzy. This is Coast
Guard Station, Oregon Inlet.

Go ahead.

Okay, we're a couple
miles offshore of the boat.

He's taking on water.
He will not be
able to stop it.

It's gonna be probably
11 miles from Oregon Inlet.

I'll get you a
lat/long when I get there.

Roger. Whenever you can pass
that GPS position, let us know.

Michael, back up.
I can't see.

Come on over!

Come on over!

Hop on!
Come on!

Hop on!
Come on!

Want us to grab your rods?
Want us to get your rods?

Yeah!

Michael, stay back here.

Go forward,
forward, forward.

Forward, forward, forward.

Jarrett, come
on get out of there.
She's gonna roll!

Get out of there, come on.

Jarrett, get out of there.

Jarrett, come on.
Just come to me, come on.
Come on. You all right?

I think she's
gonna roll over.

Here comes Frenzy.

That's good
we got some help.

Position will be
32 North 07517 West.

Roger. Our lifeboat is
en route.

They should be
there shortly.

They're probably
just getting ready
to cross the bar now.

I bet she's
going down, cap.

We got four or
five boats on scene.

The Coast Guard's been
notified, but he's going down.

You off the boat?

We're on
the outboard. All three of us.

Uh, we hit something. I
don't know if it was a...

a log, or a piling,
or something.

It
just ripped everything
out from under the boat.

There's a hole. You can
just see daylight all the
way through the stern and...

I didn't want it to roll
over and to have to go
into that 40-degree water.

I didn't know nothing to do.
Get off the thing.

I got you.
Wow.

That boat there, she's
probably a $800,000 boat.

Oh, damn.

That's hard to watch.

What is this
guy gonna tow him?

Maybe they can
drag her in and save her,
that would be nice.

Be a shame to see
that boat go down.

That rope's gonna snap.

I think that's
making it worse.

This is the scary
thing about fishing here.

That could have
been us right there.

Could happen to
anyone at any time.

I know he's a local boy.

The guy's fished
here all his life.

And if there's not somebody
there to rescue you, things
could be real bad, real quick.

That is the
perfect example of it.

Just breaks your heart to
see something like this.

That's the guy's
livelihood right there.

It's everything.

You think the
boat's gonna make it into
shore with him towing it?

Or you think it's going down?

I don't think the
boat's gonna make it in.

I think it's taking on
water way too rapidly.

Oh.

The guy just broke
the cleat out of his boat.
Too heavy to pull it.

He lost her.

Ugh. Rope broke.

Terrible.

Unbelievable. Terrible. Wow.

You're not gonna save her now.

Oh, my God.

This is not something
you wanna watch, man.

I can't
stand to watch it.

Holy.

I hate to see
something like that.

It could happen to
any of us like that.

Oh, my God.

Greg,
could you do me a favor?

I don't think my
phone's gonna work here.

And
before my family gets wind of
what's going on out here...

could you call my home and,
um, tell them that I'm fine?

All right.

He just wanted me to call
you to let you know what was,
what was happening.

The boat hit something,
they've got a hole in it,
it's going down.

But he's off,
he's off the boat.

They're fine.

But it looks like the
boat is going down.

All right.
You're welcome. Okay.

That's the worst thing you
ever wanna see in your life
being a fisherman.

God dang it, man.

The boat's sinking.

They had to get off of it.

That's a good friend of
mine, a boy I grew up with.

What's that floating?

A survival suit.

See.

Oh, God, man.

Damn.

I'm just fishing
this stuff out of the
ocean, you know.

The man's lost his whole boat.

You never know, he might,
might appreciate getting
his thermos,

or his lunch box,
or life jackets.

If this happened
in the middle of the night,
running home,

with no one around
you, you'd be screwed.

Them boats were
hittin' the bridge last year...

this is another
part of it, ya know.

It becomes real
when it goes down.

I don't know what to
say man sucks.

That's
bad right there.

I feel so bad
for that guy right now.

Oh, you
ain't kidding, man.

Here's the
Coast Guard now, so I
don't wanna interfere.

I think there's
enough people on it now.

Thanks for your help.

Captain, be advised, that we're
gonna put on a safety marine...

information
broadcast for the boat...

to let other people
know where it's at.

And then, we're gonna
try to get it marked.

So, that's all we can do. Over.

Thank you, Coast Guard.

Thanks
for your help, Greg, Charlie.

Yeah, man.

Uhhh... sick to
my stomach, pardner.

It's a...

that's a sickening
sight right there.

Ain't nothin' you can do.

There ain't
nothin' else we can do.

Just...

let her go.

Beach
104 news. I'm Sam Walker.

Yesterday, the Waste Knot,
a charter boat out of
Pirate's Cove struck something

in the water about 11 miles
east of Oregon Inlet and
started taking on water.

Everyone on board
got off safely.

Waste Knot was last
reported on its side.

Jesus.

It's unbelievable, man.

The ocean, she's
not playing games.

Yeah.
If she wants
you, she'll take you.

The good news
is everybody got off safe.

That's great.

But those
guys are just like me.
Their boat is their job.

And right now, their boat sunk
and they're out of a job, so
who knows how long it's gonna

take him to recover from that?

We're fierce
competitors, buddy.

We'll cut each
other's throats when it comes
to catching a fish,

but there's nothing that we
wouldn't do for each other.

There's been a
few boats sunk out there.

This is known as the
graveyard of the Atlantic.

Yep, that's what
they call it, the graveyard.

I don't wanna
become part of it.

This place has got a
terrible reputation.

Thousands.

Not tens, not hundreds,
but thousands of vessels
have sunk here.

There's U-boat subs,
there's all the merchant boats,

there's old sailing
ships, steam ships.

The gulf
stream is close.

You've got a lot of cold
weather coming in in the
wintertime.

And when the two come
together, it's dangerous
conditions.

I mean, storms can
come up like that.

There's wind, sea
conditions, you know,
everything is working

against you here.

Mother Nature, it's almost
like she's laughing at you.

And it's a pretty scary thing
to know that I might die going
home tonight.

I try not
to think about it.

All right, mister.

If you did think about
it that much, I don't think
you'd ever leave the dock.

Ready, brother?
All right,
I'll tie it off, man.

Got to get out
there, got to go fishing.

Okay, we ride.

We unfortunately have
to roll the dice, you know, so
we're gonna do our best to

keep this thing above water.

Here we go.

A game of
Russian Roulette.

All right.

We just got to
put it out of our mind
and just go fishing.

'Cause that's what we do
and that's what all the
other guys do down here.

Yeah, man.
I'm ready.

All right.
All right.
Sounds good.

Yeah. Yeah.

It's one of those things
where it's better to be lucky
than good 'cause I don't care

how good you are, sooner or
later, you're gonna need some
luck out there.

Help us again, Lord.

Watch after us.

We know that that's an
inherent risk that we take
every day.

In the precious
name of Jesus, Amen.

Amen, thank you, Shack.

Thank you, Shack. Amen.

Amen, Shack.

What's up, guys?
What's up, Bill?
How y'all doing today?

We came across a boat
sinking like 10 miles out.

Everyone's safe, but...

Yeah.
It's a terrible
sight man, local boy.

All that knowledge, it just
goes to show you it could
happen to anyone.

I mean, you know, going in and
out of this inlet every day
you're scared and to see that,

it just like, it's the
last thing you wanna see.

But on a higher note,
we got a beautiful fish.

Well, cool,
let's get him on up here.

All right, guys, not
bad, 242 pounds dressed.

- There we go.
- That's all right man.

Wanna get a tail cut, core
sample, see what we got here?

Yeah.
Let's do that.

Buyer's looking at the
meat for fat content, color,
and shape.

In my experience, a high
quality fish might bring as
much as $28 a pound.

While a low quality tuna
might bring $8 or less.

Moment of truth.

That's nice, no burn.

Not bad.
No burn.
Pretty translucent.

It's got a lot of fat in it
throughout the minors and
the majors, thick wall.

How's 20 bucks a pound sound?

Hey, now!
Sounds
good to me, man. Nice one.

Nice start.
Nice start.

That's a good way
to start the season...
Yeah.

Right there, man.
Thank you very much.

- Good job.
- Definitely.

We definitely saw a
good sign of fishing.

As long as that inlet
stays good and these
fish stick around,

we might have a really
good season down here in
the outer banks.

I wanna go, man.
I wanna get more, believe me.

Yeah, man.
Y'all get out
there and be safe.

Oh, Nick.

They're gonna be
here today, cap.

I know it.
See if we can find a nice one.

We were the first boat
in the fleet to catch
that first fish.

I got his tail, let his
head down a little bit.

Yes!

Pretty work, he's ours!

Picked up right where
we left off last year,
we're in first place.

The only thing we need to
do now is stay consistent.

I think we got most
of the fleet out here with us.

That Foolish Pleasures
boat, he kind of came out of
nowhere.

A little
more competition.

Dale on the
Foolish Pleasures.

I hadn't even heard of him
before, but he's already
challenging us.

Sounds like Frenzy's
the boat to beat out here,
so we'll start chipping

away at him first.

And he said he's
gonna smoke the fleet
this year, good luck.

Foolish Pleasure, come in.

Hey,
Frenzy, back to you.

I'd say that the Yankee
boats are coming out...

but I still haven't
figured out which boat you are.

If you're a Southern
boat or a Yankee boat.

We're a Southern boat.
Come on, man.

I'm from Virginia,
so it's right outside
of North Carolina.

Gotcha.

Are you kidding me?

Greg needs a geography lesson.

He's from New Jersey.

And the last I checked,
that's north of Virginia.

I believe he's
losing his mind.

I know.

Frenzy might not know
much about us right now, but
by the time the season's over,

it will be very clear
to him who we are and
what we came to do.

He's the guy to beat.

And to be the man, you
got to beat the man.

Whoo!

We'll go over there
with some dynamite and
mutilate them there.

Okay.

Mark's here now, 15 fathom.

Good tuna
weather, overcast, breezy.

A little
choppier than I expected.

Nothing
we can't handle.

That's all right they
bite better when it's rough.

I like the look
of it here today.

Ten fathom.

We're gonna see them here.

Hope so.

On your way up the beach, stop
by eight or ten bars, have a
cocktail each one.

Oh, here
we go, got it now.

Just had a bite here.

We're just trying to get
everything in and get
everything down and tight

and go to work.

There we go.

Look at that rod.

Got a little weight
to him, a little bit.

A real one.

Single bite.

We're on.

Frenzy's on.

We are definitely
taking Frenzy down.

He's an imposter.

If anyone can do it, it's us.

Just trying to
get another bite here.

There he is! Got him on!
We're on! We're on!

Oh, yeah, Frenzy!
We're coming for ya!

There he is. Got him on.
We're on. We're on.

Oh, yeah, Frenzy!
We're coming for you.

Marked the
out of them.

I didn't wanna say anything
'cause you know how it is.

All right, guys, let's
hope to high hell we can
hang on to this one.

He's no monster, but...

it don't take a monster.

He's big enough.

Look at him, yeah, he can't
hold a bend like that if he's
not big enough.

Oh, yeah.
He's going in the box.

It's got the bend, cap.

Hold on.
He's under the stick.

You got to move the rod!

You wanna go
underneath, Will?

Yeah. All right.
You got him.

You've got to turn me, Dale.

Which way you wanna go?

Spin the boat that way.

We got him on here.

Every bite counts.

Got to get as many
as we can in a very
short amount of time.

Go ahead!

Go ahead, Frenzy, yeah,
cut around, there you go.

Hard good right, good right.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah, there he goes.

Cool, keep that tight.

Still there?
Or is he gone?

Is he gone?

It feels like he might be.
You wanna crank on it?

Gone?

Yeah.
I don't know, we
might have just lost him.

He's gone.

Son of a bitch.

Oh, yeah.

Real deep color here, boys,
real deep color here, Frenzy.

A bigger one, too!

Got him.

Alright,
tail gaff, Billon!

All right.
I'm coming.
Right behind you.

Come in to my left.

Come on, get him.

Pretty work.

All right, he's ours.
We're good. Game over! Yes!
Whoo!

Fish two, man!
What more can you ask for?

We got 'em.

Another one for the Frenzy.

Hey, Will.

Frenzy's got one over there.

Oh, man.

I wonder what we
did to piss the fish
gods off like that.

A nightmare.

He ain't the fattest
fish I've ever seen, but I'm
happy to have him.

83 inches.

It was bigger than I
thought, 83-incher, man.

I'll take him.

Okay.

Good job, Frenzy.
Pretty work.
Pretty work.

How'd you
guys make out today?

We got a
nice one for you.

Well,
let's check it out.

Nice Carolina Winter Bluefin.

Oh, yeah.

What do you got?

175 pounds dressed.

Big
enough, we'll take it.

No. Nice little fish.
Let's see what we got.

Let's check it out.

On our first trip out
this season, we caught a
high quality tuna and got

$25 a pound for it.

This fish is a lot smaller,
but I'm hoping that we get
close to $20 per pound.

Greg, this is
a nice little fish,
nice marketable size.

Yeah.
He's got a little
bit of fat in him.

Nice and buttery and
pink here and penetrating
into these lobes.

All right.
Well, let's take a look at
the core, see how that looks.

So, what do you think?

A little fish like that,
this time of the season.

What's the verdict?

$16 a pound.
Sixteen?
I'll take him.

16 for one
fish, that's nice.
Yeah. All right.

It's not exactly what we
were looking for, but it's
still not a bad day's work.

But best of all, it keeps Dale
on the Foolish Pleasures in
our rearview mirror.

Thanks.
Hopefully,
we'll see you tomorrow.

Thank you, sir.

Beach 104 news.

The commercial fishing boat,
Risky Business was on its way
across the ocean bar when it

was struck by two freak waves.

The flying bridge was nearly
ripped away from the hull.

That just gave me anxiety.

I wish I didn't hear that.

Welcome back to the OBX.

Yesterday a boat had its
tower and roof ripped off in
freak waves while trying

to cross the bar.

And a few days ago, the
Doghouse was lucky not to have
the same thing happen to them.

Whoo!

We just took 15 feet of white
water right over top of her.

This place is just an
absolute hellhole and that,
that bar is,

you know, a widow maker.

I mean, one bad wave, one bad
decision will take you out.

What do you guys
think about that?

I mean, am I the only
one that sketches out?

It's gonna be a
nightmare all over again.

You ain't kidding.

You have to
make the right choices.

If you go out there and
get caught in a bad situation,
it's gonna slap you in the

face real quick.

Wanna just idle
down that way anyway?

Yeah,
whatever you wanna do, man.

TJ takes safety
very seriously and he doesn't
wanna see anybody get hurt.

I would 100% trust TJ with
whatever decision he makes.

If I get down there and
look at that bar and I think
that it's unsafe or to use my

better judgment to wait a
few hours, I'm gonna wait.

The bar
is the transition point
from the Sound to the ocean.

It's a sandbar where the water
depth can go from deep around
it to very shallow on top of it.

Swells from the open ocean
break on the bar and those
waves can be treacherous,

so we have to physically
get across that safely
without taking one of those

waves over the bow.

No tuna fish in the ocean
worth me blowing out my
windows,

and destroying my boat,
and possibly hurting
someone on my crew.

Well,
just got across the bar here.

It's stacked up a
little bit, just be careful.

Greg got across
all right, but he's got one of
those custom Carolina Tuna

fishing boats that are
designed and built for going
across Oregon Inlet.

They sit high in the water
with a narrow hull that widens
into a very high flare.

They're more likely to glide
up and knife through waves
and those flares help

deflect the water away.

My boat has a lower, flatter
profile with no flares.

It tends to plow through
swells and big waves are more
likely to crash over my bow.

One of those powerful waves
could blow out my windows,
destroy my electronics,

and even sink my boat.

As long as we get
across the bar safely,
we'll be all right.

Here we go.

You get scared knuckles
strained, you're holding on
just hoping to get through it

and live to see another day.

That looked like a big one
coming at them right there.

See it?

All it takes is one.

Hang on.

Hang on! Hang on!

I'm doing my
best here, man.

It's scaring the
**** out of me.

Watch out!

Hold on!

Whoa!

Here we go!

Hang on.

As long as we get
across the bar safely,
we'll be all right.

I'm doing my
best here, man.

It's scaring the
**** out of me.

Watch out!

Hold on!

This place sucks.

Oh, God.

I can see your
grey hairs from here, TJ.

We really need a fish
bad, we, uh, a lot of bills we
haven't made any money yet.

So, hopefully, today.

Unfortunately, having a friend
of mine lose his boat, it's
gut wrenching.

This is how we
support our family.

This is our everything.

You take our boat
from us, we're lost.

But we need to get going
to catch some fish and
we just got to,

got to get our head
screwed on right.

Got a bunch of two-tone
porpoise around here.

Things look good.

I think we're gonna
stop some bleeding.

- Jake?
- What?

Get your ass back
there and get me a tuna.

Catching the first
one is the hardest.

It's always a lot of
pressure, you know,
and we are so worked up.

Hey, let's go.

Calm down.

When you fish for
a couple days and you
don't have a bite,

there's a little bit
of tension that starts
to build up.

Jig it, Jake!

Shut up!
Shut the hell up!

We got to
catch a tuna, man.

There's, there's a mark.

There's a tuna
mark there, bud.

You let me know
when you see a boil.

Okay.

We're gonna get
a bite here in a minute.

Come on, buddy.

I'm telling you, there's
some marks around here.

Oh!

There you go!

What's it gonna be a porpoise?

I don't know.
See what we're working with.

It's a
tuna, ain't it?

Tuna, yeah.
It's a tuna. It's a tuna.

Come
on, baby, please.

Look. Look. Look.
Doggone porpoise.

So, hey, why are you doing
that, till you get the rope
around me?

That's how I was
doing it the last year.

You're putting
the whole rope through it?

Grab that poly ball.

It's getting a little
heated right now, but if we
get this fish on here,

everything will be all right.

There he is.

Come on.
Get ready.

I don't have a
gaff ready for number one.

Your
gaffs are right here
they're all ready.

Really?

We're just at each
other's throats because we
both want to catch that fish.

What do we do?
I mean...

We don't mean
anything by it, but
we're just shut up, man.

You know, we just wanna catch
the fish, get them on the
boat and get paid.

Ready, come
on, stick his ass.

I got it.
Get another gaff.

Come on, man, we
need this one.

All right.
You got both of 'em.
Yeah.

Pull on him,
buddy, pull on him!

Whoo!

Oh, yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
You know, we finally got one.

The first one is always the
hardest and we finally got
that one behind us.

Oh, great.

Seventy eight to seventy
eight and a halfer here, bud.

All right, Jake.

That's what we
needed right now, bud.

All right, buddy.
That's the first one.

That's the first
one, the hardest one.
We got it from here.

Let's see if we
can't get a couple more.

All right, man.

Oh!

Marking them.

This is right about
where we got bit.

Put us on the meat!

We had a Bluefin
on yesterday right
around this spot,

but we lost him.

We're out a gear.

That just pisses me off.

It doesn't help that Frenzy
got his second fish of the
season while we're still

sitting on one.

So, I am dead set on
getting one today before
the sun goes down.

They must be hanging
right here on this damn
ridge right here.

See this side of this hill,
I think this is where we
got bit right there.

God, come on, fish!

This is pretty much
right where we got our bite.

Well, don't leave.

Don't worry about it,
we're not going anywhere.

Circling. Circling.

Got some marks right here.

There's something
on this front baits.

There he goes.

There it is.
Got him on. Got him on.

Pow goes the breaker?

Coming for you, Frenzy.
We're coming for you.

Got some
marks right here.

There's something
on this front baits.

There he goes.

There he is!
Got him on. Got him on.

Pow goes the breaker?

Got him on.

No way.

I'm super competitive and
I'll hurt anybody that gets
close to the Frenzy.

I hope they don't
catch as many as we do.

Coming for you, Frenzy.
We're coming for you.

Number two.

- Come on, Will Billy.
- Damn.

Won't ya pull that
harpoon out of your beard
there...

Captain Caveman,
when he gets close?

We're
hoping for number two.

Hoping for number two.

A little forward,
Dale, forward to your right.

The side
I got an arm on?

Yeah.

Just say,
"Arm side," Will.

She's heavy.

Heavy is good.

Be handing
out Foolish Pleasures
crying towels...

at the dock when we get back.

I think they're
gonna wish they was us.

Forward.

All right, that's good.

My gaff's ready.

Tail rope ready.

Keep that handy.

Whoo!
Look at that one.

Forward!

Get the gaff.

Looks pretty round.

- Get him up.
- Yep.

Come on, get him.
Get him.

Watch him. Alright.
Get the tail rope.

Get that
tail rope on him.

Tie that
off real tight.

Got him!

Hell, yeah.
That's what I'm talking about!

Whoo!

- All right.
- Pretty work, boys.

Number two.

Damn,
that's a nice fish.

She's fat.

Seventy six.
Yeah, baby.

You think Frenzy's
having a nightmare right now?

Be handing out crying
towels at the dock.

There won't be a
dry eye in town.

In your face, Frenzy.

Hey, Griff.

Well, Dennis, we got
the hardest one today, man.

He might not be the best one
we get, but he's the hardest
one, it was the first one.

Let's pull her
off and see what we got.

All right, buddy.

Holy mackerel.

Calm down, man.

He's only a
hundred and eighty six.

Well, the next one
will be bigger, much bigger.

- Let's check it out.
- All right.

What do you think, man?

I'm glad
you finally got one.

But I think this
is a bad fish.

Oh, great.

Yeah, you could
tell the body shape
was really emaciated.

Renegade bite him.
Bite this guy.

You could tell the
mouth had been damaged at
some point earlier in the

fish's life and it, and it.

Yeah, but how
do you know people don't
want damaged fish, man?

They can't all be perfect.

Well,
the meat color is...

This
isn't a perfect world.
Not perfect either.

I know he's
not the best one you've
seen this week,

but what do you think, man?

- $6 a pound.
- I'm about to vomit.

But, I mean, it is what
it is, but, oh, well.

That's a tough start,
but thank you, man.

We'll bring you a
better one tomorrow.

All right, good luck.

I've spent as much
money on my boat this winter
as I originally bought it for.

We need to catch as many
fish as we can without sitting
here and crying about how bad

I need to catch these
things, I need to catch 'em.

Our next fish is guaranteed
to be better than that.

All right.
We got to get another one now.

Daggum it, I was hoping
that was gonna pay a bill.

Well, you know about
that Foolish Pleasures
boat there.

Catching some fish.

They're here to play.

We got our second fish of the
season the other day and
Foolish Pleasures caught their

second fish yesterday.

We need to catch
a lot more fish to
leave them in the dust.

All right.

- Tie ball game.
- Tie ball game.

You got to look
at it like this though,
our average is first.

Yeah.
Well, you got a point there.

Yeah.
That's right.

You know what?
It's a new day.

We get them right now.

That's right.

Got our second
fish of the season.

I think we're tied back up
with Frenzy for first again.

Go ahead, Dale.

Frenzy's starting to,
been kind of wearing me out.

We've been back
and forth with him.

We'd definitely like to get
more in the boat, so we can
sleep a little bit better.

We can't rest at all.

We got to take advantage of
every opportunity we can get
and get out here and try to

stay into the top of the pack.

All right. Oh!
Out of gear.
Yell when you want gear.

All right, go ahead.

Wobble through
here for a minute.

Dammit,
Will Billy, come on.

Pull some damn luck
out of that beard Ed.

Ah ha!
Here they are.
Couple marks here.

Deep, or what?

Ten to twelve.

That's them.

Come on.

Come on, baby.

There. It's flat line!
Come on.

There he is, he's on the rod!

I got one on the stick,
too, double-header, cap.

Come on, baby.
Bring me fortune! Owww!

Come on.
Come on, baby.

There it's flat line!

Come on.

There he is, he's on the rod!

I got one
on the stick, too.

Double-header, cap!

Take that,
Foolish Pleasures!

Let the stick go!

Come on, baby,
bring me fortune! Owww!

Just let her go!

Not tight or anything.
That's all right,
don't worry about it.

I don't wanna pull on it
because I don't know where
that fish is on the rod.

We've got two
fish on and we've got
to keep them apart.

If those lines
cross, we could lose one
or both paychecks.

All I'm trying
to do is keep this tight.

Just got to keep an eye
on everything, make sure
we don't cross our lines up

and we lose a fish.

The lines are crossing!

Jacked up.

This one broke off.

Son of a bitch.
Damn it!
I got the fish.

- You got the fish here.
- He's running!

We don't want
you, we need you.

Get your ball,
let's pin it on here.

This feels like a big
tuna and he took off running.

We wanna slow him down before
we lose him, so we're gonna

attach a poly ball to the line.

As the fish dives down and
swims away, he's pulling that
ball down with him.

And the resistance from the
buoyance of the poly ball will
slow him down and wear him

out, so we'll have a
better chance of landing him.

We're not attaching
barrels to him like they
did to the shark in Jaws,

but it's the same principle.

All right, let him go.

He woke up then, it's
gonna be a good one.

Bobber down.
We clipped that ball in there.

That thing's a hundred pounds
of drag, he just took it
straight down like it was

nothing, that's
a nice fish there.

We
just clipped an LD2 on
and he took her down, cap.

Frenzy's got
one on over there.

It's the last thing I need.

Get right here
and go to work on him.

Just take our time,
let the fish stay calm,
let him stay on the rig.

We're wearing him out.

I'm gonna come up nice
and easy with the gaff.

Just hold it on.
I got this. I got this.

I'm good.

Thing's heavy, dude.

You got snap for me?

Back the drag off.

Got it?

I'm gonna leader him
right up there, Billon.

All right.
Get your,
get your gaff ready.

There's your leader,
there's your fish.

Should be right
here under you.

Keep coming.
Keep coming.

I'm trying.
I'm trying. Hold on.

Don't lead, don't
lead him, let him go.

- Hold on, let him go.
- Let him go.

He still
got some kick to him.
All right.

Hold him right here, Frenzy.

Right here. Here we go.
Here we go. Here we go.

Good job.
I got him over here.
Tail gaff.

Coming right up.
All right,
pass me the rope.

Move over.
I got. Go. Go. Go.
Okay.

He's ours.

All right.
One, two, three, go!

Oh, yeah.

You saw him out
there looking at you.

- Yeah.
- Seventy four-incher.

There we go.

- All right.
- Frenzy, three.

Foolish Pleasures, two.

Whoo!

How do you
like that, Dale?

We're back on top.

I plan on staying there.

All right,
guys, what's up?

You got another
one for me today?

- Yep, got one more.
- Oh, yeah.

Cool.
Let's see what we got.

It's got some shape to it.

- It does, doesn't it?
- Yeah.

Especially
if you like round.

207 pounds.
We'll take it.
She's small, but she's fat.

All right, guys.

Let's get a core sample
and tail cut and see
what we got on the inside.

Our first fish of the
season got us $15 a pound.

So, we're really hoping to
do better with this fish.

Oh, man.
I like it already.

Show us the money.
Really good color,
nice and translucent.

It's got some fat in it,
it's got some oil. Yeah.

The wall's still
a little thin, but
it's good quality meat.

Y'all definitely put in
some work for this one, huh?

Yeah, man.
Risking life and limb.

Definitely limb.

What do you think?

Definitely one
of the better quality
meats I've seen so far.

Killing me.

How's about
$23 a pound sound?
Awesome, yes.

Yeah.
Hell yeah.
That's what's up.

- Thank you, thank you.
- Yes, sir.

Frenzy's a little
bit ahead of everybody.

We got two fish.

We're only one fish
behind him right now.

We're drafting behind him.

We're gonna slingshot ahead
of him here in a day or two.

You guys
are rock stars.

What do you guys
got for me today?

We got one for you.
And
let's check it out.

- It's great.
- Good shape.

You got to take
'em, how you can get 'em.

All right.
What do we got there?

- 244 pounds dressed.
- All right.

He's not
getting any bigger.
Nope.

- No.
- Let's check her out.

We heard
Foolish Pleasures' got
$23 a pound for their fish.

So, I'm hoping we get
at least $24 for ours.

There's minimal fat
here as you'd expect from the
slender body shape.

They can't all be
diamonds, but you know
something?

We'll take what we
can get for him.

Let's check
out the core, Mary.
All right, uh-oh.

Uh-oh.

He's cooked pretty
much the core there?

Well, what do
you, what do you think?

I mean, I know it's not the
best fish, but what do you
think you can do for us?

Eight bucks.

Eight?
It is
what it is though.

Yeah, unfortunately,
that's how they work out
sometimes.

Doggone it.

It's not a great quality
fish, but at least, it keeps
us one fish ahead of those

guys on Foolish Pleasures.

We'd like some good ones,
but that's what we got today.

We'll see if we can,
if we can find another
one tomorrow for you.

All right, guys.
Thanks for the fish, be safe.

Good luck tomorrow.
Thanks.

All right, thanks.
Yeah.
Good job, guys.

Dennis,
thank you, buddy.
Tomorrow.

Tomorrow's a new day.

Fishin'
Frenzy's two-fish haul
keeps them in the lead,

but upstart challenger
Foolish Pleasures remains
in hot pursuit.

And Hot Tuna's first payday
pushes them into third place.

Beach 104 news.

Waste Knot fishing charter

It steadily drifted south and
the rough seas in the last
