Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 2, Episode 9 - On a Fin and a Prayer - full transcript

An accident leaves the Reel Action stuck at the dock, giving Captain Tami and her crew a late start, and tensions onboard reach a boiling point. The Doghouse and Fishin' Frenzy have the top spot in sight and are scrambling to keep catching before time runs out. Captain Griff on the Reels of Fortune faces a dangerous situation while navigating Oregon Inlet -- a battle where experience and quick thinking are all that stand between life and death.

On this episode
of Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks...

with less than two weeks
left of fishing...

You know,
we're right here
down at the wire here now.

...the bluefin
are disappearing.

It's a tuna nightmare.

The fish
are hiding from us.

And the pressure
to produce...

Dig deep!
I mean deep, boy!

...may cause
one captain to crack.

I swear, man,
we gotta get a bite here now.

Look at, look at,
look at, look at 'em! Whoo!

Coming to you live!

In a highly regulated
fishery that's

trying to stay sustainable...

Whoo!

...every bluefin caught

takes a bite out of the quota.

Whoo, hoo, hoo!

And every
fisherman has to battle...

- Keep her going ahead!
- Own him, Jake!

...for their fair share.

Pretty work, boy!

Whoo!

This is
Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks.

Local family operation
Reels of Fortune
has a narrow lead

over last season's champion
Fishin' Frenzy,

and Northern boat
Hard Merchandise

has yet to land its first fish.

I just need
something to blow up right now.

Right now we're doing
really well,
we're on top of the fleet.

But as the end of the season
approaches,

anxiety starts to build,
you know,

you know you've only got
so many more chances.

If we're catching some fish,
we're making some money.

If we're making some money,
that's the best I can do.

Damn, there's the mark
from hell, son.

Once we go across the mark,

we try to get
right in their face.

We're antagonizing 'em.

There it is.

Jig that thing, boy!

It's like
nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah,

bet you can't get me.

If you can just get one fish

to come up and make a pass,
it's game on.

- Come on, baby.
- Jig it, boy!

Here they are,
they're right up on top
right here,

right between me and Griff.

These are big fish.

They're smashing.

There's a lot of boats

right in the same spot here.

Reels of Fortune's
right here with us.

If he gets another bite,
he's gonna extend his lead.

Hopefully, we get a bite first.

- Do you see him?
- Seeing 'em up on top.

I was looking at him.

See 'em right there?

Pushing right ahead of me.

- Wow, they're
swimming off the bow.
- Nice fish.

Now we're in the meat,
we see 'em, I can see the fish,

I can't get a bite.
That's frustrating.

- I'm in it right here.
- Oh, look at him
flashing.

I see three
or four of 'em right there.

It's tough competition
here in the Outer Banks.

Everyone's trying to get
that bite.

This season I wanna be number
one again.

We're really gonna have to push
to get back in that top spot.

They're over here, too.
Look at them down sea.

Now they're down
between me and the blue boat.

Ooh, do some jigging,
do some jigging!

Jig. Jig. Jig.

These two bites had
just went over the mark.

There they are,
they're up high.

These bluefins
are almost like phantoms.

Everyone's seeing them
and no one's getting bites.

We're in third place
in the earnings right now.

Any of these fish
can move us ahead.

Come on.
Take the bait! Take it!

Come on, just one! Hang on!

I can't believe we can't
get a bite out of 'em.

Those were good marks.

Look at,
look at those tuna!

Tuna right here jumping. Watch!

Nice one, too!
Three hundred- pounder I saw.
Nice fish.

Oh, my God. I want one.

It's like
the Wild West out here.

We're all trying to stake
our claim on the fish.

We've only made a little over
13 grand so far this year.

A bite like this could really
turn our whole season around.

- Blue! Keep going, Tyler!
- There it is again.

You're out of gear, dude!

Oh, are you still marking?

- Nah, man, they're gone.
- Ah.

The boat
that can get those fish to bite

deserves a Medal of Honor, man.

They were
jumping all over the rigs,

they were big!

Something's goin' on
over there,

so we're gonna poke around
this area

and see if we can
mark a few fish.

We had
a great season back North,

but it seems our lucky streak
just hasn't continued.

If we stay down here
without catching,

we could lose most of our
profit from last season.

So I've given us a deadline,
if we don't start catching

in the next two days,

we're gonna beat feet
and head back to Gloucester.

We're just kinda in the center
of all the boats right now,

it looks like.

We need a big fat slob.

This North Carolina season
has been a struggle.

The pressure's on.

We're trying
to turn things around

before we have to leave.

There's a fish,
a whole bunch of them.

Jig it!

Oh, there was one, Dave.
I just saw one!

Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I saw him.

He's coming again.
He's coming again.

Hold it down.
Hold it down!

We're on. We're on. We're on.

We're on.
We're on. Come on.

Let's hope it's a keeper.

A definite tuna.
We saw him on the machine.

That's why we came here.

North Carolina
bluefin tuna fishin'.

When it's good
it's good and when it sucks

it's, really sucks.

All right, Jay,
let's see if we can
get it up here,

back off from the drag.

Got it. Got it. Got it.

Feels like a good one.

All right.

Well, I'm hoping
he's just big enough.

You're doing good, Jay.

We got color! Color.

Stay on him! Stay on him!

There he is.

Short.

Another short.

We got the fish to the boat
and it's a short.

To keep this fishery
sustainable,

we've got to release
these short fish,

let them mature,
let them spawn,

so there can be
more big fish someday.

Ugh.

Dammit.

The problem is,
it doesn't help me now.

Dave's just pissed
because, you know,

that's money
being wasted for us.

Shorts are just
a loss of money.

Have you
caught a keeper?

Uh, we just
got another short here Griff,

no keepers.

Damn it, man.

Marciano is just
one of the kind of guys

you, you want to root for.

He's had some tough luck
but hopefully, you know,

it's not over yet
and hopefully, he can
catch him a few fish,

and, uh, this won't be
a loss for him.

Nobody can make money
on shorts.

So we're just gonna
have to keep fishing,

and hopefully before we
run out of time here,

we'll be able to put a keeper
on the boat.

Austin!

Hey bring you're,
uh, squeegee up here.

Do you want me to do it?

Yeah, I don't want to do it.

The other day
Austin cost us a Yellowfin

- that would have been dinner.
- Come on!

No. No. No. No. No.

So I'm gonna
ride him a little bit harder,

so it's gonna keep him
on his A game.

Not really being on your game,

that's not
where you need to be,

especially not where we are
in the season right now.

Hold on!

You got, you know,
you can't do that.

You've got to hold
that thing in with your hand.

I got it, I got it,
I got it, yeah.

If not that tab,
that zipper
will catch that tab.

And do not ever, ever, ever
force them.

After the other day,

I just don't feel like
my dad trusts

what I'm doing on the boat.

It's just frustrating.

Hey, Caine!

Hey, show him the deal
with a, with these
curtains here.

Before we end up with some
busted teeth.

You just...

I got it. I got it.
Sheesh!

You just gotta work it.

For now,
I'm just gonna have to

swallow my pride
and work through it.

Good grief.
When will it ever end?

Perfect time
to catch a bluefin.

Oh, oh, there's some two tones
over there,

they're coming this way.

Looks like a pretty good pod
of them, too.

Dear Jesus, please God,

let us get a fish right now.

We are desperate to get
some more meat on the boat.

We've only caught one
bluefin so far this season,

and that's just not enough
for this crew to survive on.

We're gonna have to stack
this deck as fast as we can

before time is up.

All right, come on, fish.

This is exactly the water
we want to catch you in.

So let's see
if Jessie can jig it up.

Come on, baby.

That could be a tuna.

It's possible, it's possible.

That could be a tuna
right there.

Come on, we need tunas.

There's another one,
there's another big mark,

it's got yellow in it!

Come on, God,
let that be a tuna.

All right, fish on.
Fish on. Fish on!

Fish on! Fish on!
There he is! There he is!

Got him, got him.
I got him!

Taking line! Taking line!

All right!

Uh, we got a fish on.

We gotta get a bird
out of the way.

We don't want two lines
to get together,

'cause if two lines get
together, they're gonna chafe.

Go ahead, go ahead.

Crank, Tami!
We need this fish!

Taking line, he's taking line!

Come on. Come on!
You can do it!

Crank him up.

Come on,
I need a new truck!

I see leader, got color.

Color! He's coming up.
Get the harpoon!

Oh, I think
that'd be a shark!

It's a shark!

He's tangled around,
let me get my gloves on!

He's tail wrapped.
Oh, what a mess.

A Mako.

Rows and rows
of razor sharp teeth.

They're dangerous.

This is the last thing we
need right now is a shark.

I was really hoping it
was gonna be a bluefin.

- Got it?
- Yup.

All right.
We gotta get out of this.

Yup.

Seeing a few big whales
out here today.

Yeah, it
looks pretty good out here.

Right now,
the Reels of Fortune's

the number one spot

but they won't be for very long

if I have anything to say
about it.

Season's getting
really short now.

We're gonna go hard,
and we're gonna get ours.

Come on, man.
We gotta get one early.

There they are!
There they are!

Twenty fathom, couple marks.

Here they are.

- Oh, yeah, there they are!
- Come on.

Keep her kinda tight now.

I smell 'em, boys!

- Yeah.
- Smell 'em, boys.

Come on, fish!

Good mark?

Oh, yeah!

Come on, baby,
bite it, bite it!

Come on, pounce on it!

There he is!
Rigger, rigger.

We're on, baby!

Whoo-hoo, yeah!

Here, I got this,
go ahead.

Keep her going ahead!

There you go, keep her going.
Keep her going!

Come on, baby!

Might have to go under you.

Let me get these drops
off of it.

They're damn
near touching.

Let him get
the next one in,
and then walk under it.

Our rod line
and our greenstick line

are threatening to cross.

There's five hooks dangling
off that green stick.

If any one of them
snags the fish
or the line, we'll lose 'em.

It's all on my shoulders now.

- It's getting close, I know!
- Let's go! Let's go!

Moving as fast as I can.

Watch those lines!

Might have to go under you.

Let 'em get the next one in,
and then work under it.

We're not
in the ideal situation
right now.

We got a fish on the rod,
and we still have
the green stick out.

Nick and Billon have gotta
clear the rod
under the green stick line,

and hopefully, we don't
lose the fish in the process.

Come on, come on.

- It's getting close,
I know.
- Let's go, let's go.

Moving as fast as I can.

Watch that line.

Hold on, man!
Don't let me get...

Try to go under me, Billon.

About to drag that off.

Go under me.
Let me have the rod.

- Got it?
- Yup.

Move that rod on the corner.

Okay, we're clear here.

Okay! Let's go to work!

Whoo!

- Ready?
- Let's fight this thing.

Whoo. Real easy, Frenzy.

I'm trying to get
my bow around.

I know, He's kinda
going crazy, though.

- He's not happy.
- All right, tight, tight.

The fish is doing
all kinds of stuff.

Pulling a bunch of drag
and just all over.

There's a lot of traffic.

So, we want to get right over
the top of the fish.

This is
the one we're looking for.

Whoa.

This could be a damn
4 or 5,000-dollar fish.

Whoo. I like that.

Strong fish.

He ain't giving up.

Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho.
That's the bend.

That's the bend we want, baby.

Whoo, hoo, hoo!

Not many of them can hold
that rod down like that

for that long.

Look at 'em, there he is,
up on top!

Look at, look at, look at,
look at him!

Whoo!

That's how you know
it's a nice one.

- Look at him.
- There he goes
up on top again.

Look at him
right there. Ha!

He's done looked
all of us in the eye now.

-He knows where this boat is.
-Yeah.

I see color.

Swivel.

Now swing it back
the other way.

He's pulling up now.

There he is, Frenzy.

Come right across the stern.

If I tell you, Billon,
you have to push this boat
in gear.

All right.

Got him.
Tail gaff to the right.

- To the right, coming.
- Hold on, get on my left.

Back the drag down.
Here you go. To my left.

I can't get in there.

Hey, boys,
we're on the board!

Good work, buddy.

Whoo!

Long morning. Good work.

Well worth it.

That was a tough fish.

It's done.

I'm a hater today.

Oh, man.

Well, I know Greg and every day
we go fishing now,

it's inevitable.

If we don't get them, he will.

I, I swear, man.

We gotta get a bite here, now.

We'll give him
a psychological advantage.

Whoo. Close the deal
on that guy.

This season's
coming down to the wire,

the Reels of Fortune's
barely ahead of us.

I respect Griff a lot,
but I wanna beat his ass.

Looking good,
looking good.

- Okay. Let's see what we got.
- Eighty-five.

Eighty-five incher. Whoo!

- All right.
- We'll take it.

- Eighty-five inches.
- Just right.

Nice.
Couldn't be happier.

Fish on deck, baby.

Can't ask for much more.

- Guys?
- Got a nice 85-incher.

Sounds good.

Let's see
what this one's worth.

End of the season's
coming up.

So every fish at this point
counts.

We gotta get a good check
for this fish

in order to move ahead.

Let's see what we got here.

What's the weight on that,
Bubba?

Got 255 pounds dressed.

Two fifty-five. Skinny.

The skinny ones
need love, too.

Well, they all count.
We'll take it.

Hey, let's see
what it looks like.

What do we got?

Yeah.

That's what we call
a red rubber ball.

Or a boot.

I mean you can tell
by the shape.

It's real skinny, you know.

It's got no fat to it at all.

On top of that,
it's really tough.

Our best fish
this season got $18 a pound.

And our worst,
we got $11 a pound.

Right now, I'm just hoping
for something close to 18.

Oh, boy.

What do you think
you can get for us?

You can't get
much more than
eight dollars a pound for that.

Womp, womp, wa.
Not much,
but it's a paycheck.

Better than a sharp stick
in your eye.

You're always
hoping for a diamond,

but this fish here
it's an eight-dollar fish.

I guess we don't have a choice.
Well take it.

- All right. We'll see ya.
- Sorry.

- Good luck, guys.
- See y'all.

- See you guys.
- You got it.

Eight dollars. Ugh.

Dammit.

If we wanna make
this season count,

we need some quality fish
coming up.

All right, guys,
we're... late
in the season here.

Just... trying to get out here
in the ocean,

it's been a very tough
season all the way around.

But we gotta dance
with the one that brung us

and we need to have
some prayer here this morning.

I know, Dave,
I'm wanting to, I keep,

you guys that are away
from your families
and your homes...

down here
trying to make a dollar.

For coming out here
this morning

to... go out here
and see God's glory.

We're gonna see that sun
come up in the east.

We're gonna see it
set in the west.

Good Lord willing.

I count myself a blessed man
to be surrounded

by like-minded people,
good people,

North and South.

Good fishermen who deal with

the same
trials and tribulations
that we do.

We ask the Lord as we steam off

and we get on these fish
that you,

that you watch out for us all
and we get back in safely.

We ask and pray these
and all things

in Christ's holy, precious,
wonderful name.

Amen.

Amen, Shack.

Amen.

Amen, Shack.

You go get 'em today.

You know that always, um,

always amazes me
when he does that.

It pulls at your heartstrings

and gets me
every time he does it.

And, you know, we,
we've had a tough season.

You know and, it certainly
makes you feel good to know

the rest of the guys
are pulling for you, too.

Fishing is always a gamble.

Hopefully today we can
manage to find a spot

with a few fish in it,

because if we don't
come back with a fish today,

we're gonna have to
cut the season short

and head back to Gloucester.

Lot of slicks here.

There's a pod of fish
around here we're trying
to circle right now.

It's only a matter of time
before they start eating
again, you know?

Marking them good.

Okay.

How many did we mark? A lot?

Yeah, a good.

There's one, two,
three, four, five

sitting there
on top of each other.

All of a sudden,
they're gonna start biting

'cause there's a big body here.

Griff's right there.
He's marking them.

That's how big
the body of fish is here.

When there's
a lot of boats in an area,

fish become reluctant to bite.

So they'll often go elsewhere.

I'm just really hoping
we get a bite out of them

before they disappear.

Look, Jake.

Look at my bottom machine.

I am marking the hell
out of them.

Come on. Come on.

Come on, fish.
Get after it.

- There we go.
- Whoa!

Got him on! Big boy!

- There we go.
- Whoa!

Got him on! Big boy!

- Big?
- Oh, yeah.

- Huge, dude.
- Looking at him.

Oh, baby!

We got him on-ah-ah-ah-ahhhh!

Come on, Paul.
Let's get this one.

Hold on,
lemme get geared up here.

It's a big fish, Tyler!

I know, I know!

We can definitely tell
he's a big fish

'cause he's taking
a lot of line.

He's a screamer!

Still taking line,
he's a big fish.

Still running, still running.

Holy God.
That's a big bite right there.

That's a pretty vicious
hook up.

Any time you're hooked up
to a big fish
on the green stick,

tackle failure is always
in the back of your mind.

I'm just worried that our
gear's not gonna be able
to hold onto this fish.

- Still there?
- Uh, I don't know.

He was just pullin'

Let's see here.

Aw! We parted him off,
dude.

Really?

Big boy,
couldn't hang onto him.

Yup.

This sucks, dude!

He hit it so hard,
he straightened out a hook!

Yeah.

Takes a lot to break
one of those snaps.

See how it's opened up?

He opened it right up.

Very, very strong fish.

We're in
the straighten-the-hook-out
club now.

It's unbelievable
a fish of that size
can just mangle a clip.

That's brutal.

We just lost
a monster paycheck.

Where are the fish, man?

See anything spectacular?

I see a lot of water,

I see a lot of other boats.

Yeah, there's no tuna though.

This spot we're at
was hot the last couple days,

but apparently
it's all dried up.

It makes it
extremely difficult for us

to pinpoint these fish
in the Outer Banks.

They're in certain
pockets of water,

and they move constantly.

I've seen it like this
here before, you know,

it's a tuna nightmare.

Ain't been
one single fish caught.

The fish are hiding
from us.

It's tough.

Circling around,
we're not seeing

anything worth fishing on.

A little bit of bait
here and there,

not marking any fish
kinda takes
the wind outta your sails.

We're marking!
We're marking!

A nice big one,
see him up in 10 and 20.

The bait there is the yellow,

and the green, and then that's,

the tuna's right there,
so they're right
in the close proximity here.

It's like a ghost town
out here.

This place is dead.

Yeah, man.

I don't have
but one wheel to turn...

and I don't know
which way to turn it.

Oh, me.

I wish that I was anywhere
but here.

As far as I'm concerned,

to not share information

when you know another guy's
struggling to catch fish,

that kinda goes
against the code, if you will.

I'm sorry
about that, guys.

We're marking stuff.

If you wanna risk it,
you should head over here.

Down here, round the, uh...

five-thirty,
working our way up.

Nice big ones,
for what it's worth.

That sounds
pretty good to me, bud.

That sounds pretty good.

Hard Merch
has just came on the radio,

even though
he's having a struggle.

And he's telling
this hungry fleet

that he's seeing some fish.

That's strong, buddy.

That says a lot about the man.

Shoot, man! What to do?

There is a risk that I'd
pick up and leave and go
try to run down to him,

the fish disappears,
but, despite all the risk,

if he's seeing some fish,
that's where I wanna be at.

I tell ya what, uh,
go ahead and crank them up,
I'm just gonna...

hedge a bet that maybe I can
get down here a little bit.

I wanna run up there.

They're up there,
about four or five miles
ahead of us.

I think we need to get going.

Let's pull 'em in,
let's head towards Marciano.

Reel in the rigger, Bubby.

What'd ya hear?

I heard Hard Merch.

He might be in the fish now,
but I'm staying right here.

This late in the season,

we can't afford
to go chasing a radio.

You know Dave's
a pretty good guy.

I feel like he would be
telling us, you know,

exactly what he's seeing,

but he hasn't
hooked a fish either,

so you can't go chasing
phantoms and ghosts,

that's like dreaming.

I need a fish.

We stay in a good spot
long enough, we'll get one.

I'm not
a fleet fisherman,

and I never have been.

What's our game plan?

What's our plan of attack here?

I was always taught,
don't leave fish to find fish.

What if you get there
and the bite's already over?

Go on out in the deep,
we'll find 'em.
Go on out there.

They ain't in the deep.

We've been out there
in that rough.

So you're planning
on just staying right here
in this area?

What we need
is to play it out.

We know that Hard Merch
is up on the, uh, 530,

and he's seeing some fish.

But, uh, we only have one fish
and we have no money coming in.

Drivin' around
looking for the fish,
and burning the fuel,

that's just more money
out of my pocket
that I can't afford.

We're staying.

Come on, fish.

There's Shack.

There's Britton
on the Doghouse.

Down sea of us.

We're at Marciano's location.

There's a herd of fish
running around right now.

Every one of us here right now
needs that paycheck

that these fish can provide.

Hopefully, we can get
in position,

and get one of these fish
to hang on.

Let's hope a few swim our way.

We need a bite boy.

We need a bite bad.

We're getting down here
close to Dave, and he's right,

there's a lot of visual sign.

This is where we need to be.

Bird over there keeps circling.

That bird is up there waiting
to get a little snack.

All right, guys, I got a mark.

We're on,
we're on, we're on.

Let's get 'em!

Hey!

Caine, you got it?

I hope it's a big one!

Still taking it.

Could be a nice one, baby.

Come on, Austin,
get that bait inside the boat!

Don't leave that thing
out there dangling!

Could be a nice
one, buddy.

Still taking line out.

Come on now,
hustle and bustle!

Get this thing in,
and get the other flat line up!

Oh.

It doesn't matter
the situation, my dad
never seems to think

that I can handle anything
on my own.

Even though he doesn't mean
any harm,

it still is frustrating
'cause you gotta hear it.

Look at that mark.

That's what you want
right there.

Austin, drop that bait over.

Back here! Back here!
Not there!

Back here, over the wa--
out of the way.

Yeah, got a great mark.

I'm gonna try to get me
another bite here.

Got him!

All right,
he's pulling in, he's pull.

Got him on, boy!

He's pulling on it!

- Ah-ha!
- Got him on!

- Grab that, Austin!
- Got him on. Whoo!

- Two on, baby!
- That's right!

That's what
I'm talking about, boy!

Good job, captain!

We're fighting
a big fish,

and then we get
another drifter bite.

It's all great, but...

Get a good grip!
Hold on to it, Austin!

I'm really hoping this fish
doesn't decide
to make a big run,

and it pulls his little ass
right on overboard.

Watch yourself!

Yeah,
got a great mark.

Got him!

All right,
he's pulling in, he's pull.

- He's pulling on it!
- Got him on.

Hold on.

-Got him on.
-Got him on.

Whoo!

- Two on, baby!
- That's right!

That's what
I'm talking about, boy!

Good job, captain!

We're fighting
a big fish,

and then we get
another drifter bite.

It's all great, but...

grabbing a bluefin tuna
off the bridge...

Get a good grip!
Hold on to it, Austin!

...I'm really hoping this fish
doesn't decide
to make a big run,

and it pulls his little ass
right on overboard.

Watch yourself! Watch it!

Ugh!

Keep cranking,
keep cranking, keep cranking,
keep cranking.

Ah, it's going over the top!

- It looks like.
- Watch your line!

His line's
wanting to get over there!

My dad is
still constantly on me,

like right there in my ear.

I know it's my first year
on the boat

but I just wanna prove to him

that he can kinda relax.

Got two on, baby.

We got one fish
cross the other,
they'll burn each other off,

then you got zero.

Try and switch,

'cause your fish is wanting
to lead to the left.

Over top.

- All right,
got 'em, Austin?
- Yeah, I got 'em.

I got 'em, I got 'em.
I got 'em.

You know,
it's encouraging,

to see Austin
feel so confident,

and saying, "Hey, I got it."

You know they say soldiers,

you never really know
the test of a soldier

until you got bullets
shooting at ya.

Coming to ya live!

Whoop, whooo.

- I got color, Dad.
- Okay!

It's right there.

All right.
One, two, three...

It's a Bigeye!

Oh, it's a good job, guys.

Oh, yeah!
It's bigger than 27 inches.

Still battlin'.

Hey, Dave,
ya standing by?

Yeah. We managed to catch
a Bigeye

and we're fighting
what we're hoping

is a bluefin over here.

Good luck there,
catch 'em up, boys,

catch 'em up.

It may not be much,

but if this is a way
to pay Britton back

for him and his family
being so nice to Jay and I,

so be it.

I'm hoping we get
some good karma here

because we gave ourselves
a deadline to catch
by the end of the day,

and if we don't produce,

Hard Merchandise
is headed back to Gloucester.

We're actually marking
pretty good.

Let's get these rods
to bend.

Liven it up
for the afternoon here.

Jake!

What?

What's going on?

Are they catching a few?

Yeah, Doghouse hooked up.

-Where?
-Right here.

Right here?

Damn! There's some
pretty marks here, Dad.

You think?

Look at 'em! Look at 'em!

Damn 'em, come on!

They're hitting.

Come on, you!

- There he is! There he is!
- There you go, Jake.

We're on!

That looks
like a big one!

Let's get it, Jake.

That's a nice
one there now.

We've run down here to Marciano

and bang, we have a bite.

You know,
we're running out of time,

we're running out
of opportunities so hopefully

this fish has got
Reels of Fortune
written all over it.

Got him.

Oh, man.

Griff got 'em on.

- And we can't find a tuna.
- No.

Griff and a few other guys

ran up to Marciano's spot
to try and chase those fish,

I'm thinking maybe
we should've gone with 'em.

How the hell did I get
sucked all the way out here?

Man, this sucks.

That's Reels of Fortune
right here, look.

We're right behind,
right at starboard.

Reels of Fortune
and Doghouse,
they're hooked up.

But we really gotta
get on the bandwagon
and catch some fish.

There's no room for failure
for us.

We have to start catching.
Or we're gonna
have to go home today.

- This ain't...
- Where's my gaffs?

This fish here
feels good.

Let's look at him.

It's like pulling
a bank safe
up through the water

and it's full of money.

We're gonna,
we'll take a look at 'em

and now we're gonna
pull 'em up here
and see if we've got a,

a fish big enough to...
take home.

Be seein' him shortly.

You know, we're right here
down at the wire here now.

This'll, this'll be a big,
big, big help.

Frenzy, you better be
careful boy.

This one right here
might move us on up,
like the Jefferson's.

There he is.

- Hold him, Jake.
- Oh!

Go easy.
Don't pull him off now!

Come here. Come stick him.

Come stick him.

Now, we're
gonna pull him up here and see

if we've got a fish
big enough to take home.

This'll, this'll be a big,
big, big help, I mean,

Frenzy, you better
be careful boy.

This one right here
might move us on up,
like the Jefferson's.

- Hold him, Jake.
- Oh!

Go easy.
Don't pull him off, now!

Come here,
come stick him!

Come stick him!

I got it.

He's a keeper.
There we go.

One, two, three.

Watch out!

That's the one we need!

- Seventy-five, boss, 75.
- Pretty work.

Good deal!

All right, man!

Pretty work, bud!

Wow. That's awesome.

Oh, man! Thank God, dude.

Marciano,
you're a lifesaver, bud!
Thanks.

I gotta go buy him Marciano
a beer because there's no doubt
in my mind

if he wouldn't have
said something,

I would've never caught today.

It's a good thing.

Been waiting for that bite
all day!

Coming up on two hours.

Whoo, look at that pole, son!
It'll be a stud fish.

Right now, it's acting weird.
It's coming through the top.

It's looking all haywire.

If there was
a way to fight,

this fish is fighting.

This is gonna be...
by far,

the biggest fish
that we have battled this year.

Push it up there!

Go take her or break her.
The heck with it.

Time to dig deep, now.

It's coming to me!

There's the leader, baby!

First time we've seen a leader,
there's the fish, Austin!

Get your ass ready.

Dig deep!

I mean deep, boy!

Fish right there.

It's do or die
right there.

Throw the dart!

There he is!
Hit him with the dart!

Get him, Austin! Get him, boy!

All right,
get on him, bub!

Get on him now!

Come on.
Forward, forward, forward!

Forward!

Hey!

Pretty work, boy!

Oh, good golly dang!

One, two, three!

Wooo!

She's a nice one!

Let's measure this pig.

My arms are tired
from the last 3 hours,

I'm gonna let y'all use y'all
arms for a bit, how 'bout that?

One hundred, baby!

- Whoo!
- Triple digits!

Good job, everybody.
Teamwork!

All hail teamwork!

Hard Merch.

You got me, Dave?

Yeah, go ahead.

You know your sharing
your spot with us

just got us a bite.

And you know,
I really appreciate it.

No problem, man.
I know what it's like.

Glad we could
help you guys out.

I hope you'll land
a nice one yourself.

You deserve it.

Thanks, Britton.
We're trying out here.

Whether or not we leave tonight
really depends on

if we land a bluefin today,

so I'm really hoping
we can turn things around here,

and finally put a fish
aboard the boat.

We're marking them, Jay!

Love it.
Might be dolphins, too. Okay.

And I'd like to tell you
they're dolphins.

I didn't
say they're dolphins.

- Big batch of 'em.
- How high are they?

Ten!

Solid straight red line!

Just seeing a mark
on the machine.
It's a blob of red.

That's all tuna.

Solid 10.

We're on! We're on!
We're on, baby!
Ah.

I gotcha.

Go get the jumper out.

Jump bite. Jump bite.
Jump bite.

We're in the chum.

Have a fish on!

We're on.
We're hooked up here.

This is
a real one, baby.

Hard Merch
is up ahead of us there.

Marciano's fighting one,
let's hope he gets it.

Man, he needs it.

Jake! Look over there!
Is that gonna be Dave?

He's got one on!

- He's got one on the line!
- Yeah, I see him.

- Hard Merch!
- That's him.

Good!

That's what we like!
We like them to scream out
a bunch a line!

And this is a screamer!

Yeah, baby!

We need
this fish to bail us out,

and we need it to be a keeper.

We're basically
at the bottom of the 9th,

two outs, two strikes,
two balls,

and we really need
a grand slam.

- Dave, Dave, Dave,
turn the boat!
- Yup!

Turn the boat,
turn the boat! He's going back!

Maybe we can
get him close, I got it.

Hopefully he'll stay with us.

That's what
we like to see.

Them making another big run
like this.

Every time he runs,

it's more of encouragement
of him being a big one.

Stop.

Or no, keep going.

All right.
He's gonna go under us.

He's going under us!

All right, Dave. Let's get him.
Let's get him.

Every time he runs,

it's more of encouragement
of him being a big one.

We're hooked up.

This fish is gonna make
or break our season.

If we don't land this fish
right here,

we're gonna have to head
back up to Gloucester, tonight.

Stop... or no, keep going.

All right.
He's gonna go under us.

He's going under us!

Watch out!

Don't let him go.

We could lose it.

All right, we're clear.

We're starting to think
he's definitely a keeper.

Make money on this deal.

This is why we don't give up.

Sometimes they say,
it's darkest
right before the dawn.

Hopefully, the last quarter
in the game,

we could get a couple fish
out of this deal.

- You ready?
- Yeah, just keep winding.

You got him? It's in low.

Turn!

It's coming forward,
I'm turning this way, okay?

Ah!

Ugh.

Can't believe it.

And it's over. Pulled the hook.

Marciano pulled the hook
after 45 minutes.

Damn!

Bummer.

It kind of pains me,
to see him having

such a hard row to hoe.

But he's seen good times,
bad times,

he understands it
better than anybody.

I mean that's part of fishing.

No matter how hard
we try, we just can't
change our luck.

We gave ourselves a deadline,
till the end of the day,

of heading back to Gloucester
if we didn't catch.

And that fish might've been
our last shot.

Ah, that's it, it looks like
our luck hasn't changed at all.

We still got
a few more hours left.

We might hook up.

- All right.
- Griff, you rock!

Go on!

Hey man, what's going on, bud?

It looks like a nice
little fish.

- Let's get him off
and see what we got.
Yes, sir.

It's ironic Dave told us
about the bite,

and we're the ones
bringing in a fish.

I'm thankful though.

One seventy-three!

That's bigger than I thought!
How 'bout that?

Let's see what he looks like,
huh?

That right there is gonna
be the telltale, baby.

Come on, baby!

I'm not too impressed
with this one, the,

the core is not bad,
but it's rather light,

I'm not seeing fat concentrated
in the minor lobes,

so I'm thinking
it's not a real sharp fish.

Okay, well,
what do you, what do you think?

Ten dollars a pound.

That's,
thank you, sir. Thanks, man.

- Thanks. Thank you.
- Renegade!

You wanna eat some?
You want some of that?

Are you saying
that's not good enough for you?

Renegade's funny!

I'm startin' to wonder.

We'll have him start gradin'
'em before we bring 'em in.

We've got $10.
At least we made a check today.

There's a lot of guys pulled in
that did not have a fish.

So I feel fortunate
we've got one.

We're gonna put
our lines back out,

we're gonna get back to work,
and we're gonna do whatever

it takes to stay on top.

All right, bud,
let's go to work.

Bubba!

- Got a hundred-incher for ya.
- Nice!

There we go,
there we go.

All right.

This is the biggest fish
that we've caught this year.

I mean, a very nice fish.

I'm just hoping she looks
as good on the inside

as she does on the out.

- We got 471 pounds.
- Whoo!

Let's see
what it looks like inside.

All right, boys,
let's see what we got.

Ah, this fish is,
uh... it's pretty.

Nice tail color to it.

Sweet.

It's really,
really oily.

Fat pretty much
dripping out of it.

Looks like you took
really good care of it.

Appreciate it.

Kids need shoes, Bubba.

Eighteen dollars
a pound.

Ah! Hey, boy!
Come on with it.

Eight grand, son!

Dave Marciano,
one tip on the radio,

and, he made my family $8,000.

That alone makes him
a number one in my book.

Nice work.

Yes, sir.
Thank you, bud.

Biggest one of the year.
Hell, yeah.

With the end
of the season in sight,

Doghouse's biggest catch so far
this season launches them ahead

of Hot Tuna and into third
place and Reels of Fortune's

small fish lands them
a paycheck
just big enough to keep them

in the lead, ahead of rival
Fishin' Frenzy.

Let's get out of here.

Well, we've set ourselves
a deadline.

I'm heading back to Gloucester,

if we didn't catch
over the past two days.

And with nothing on the deck,
it's official,

we're calling it quits.

What a disappointment
of the season.

Yeah, I know, Jay,
it was. It certainly was.

Between the hitting the bridge,
between breaking a window,

between everything else,
we just couldn't make it work.

You know, it reminds me
of something my dad told me
once though,

sometimes if you're digging
a hole, and you can't seem
to get out of it,

you just need to stop digging.

Let's get these rods in,

let's point this boat
towards Gloucester,

and let's get outta here.

All right.
