Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 2, Episode 8 - Burn Blubber - full transcript

With the North Carolina season coming to a close and Reels of Fortune battling Fishin' Frenzy for the top spot, all of the crews desperately struggle to land a fish and secure a paycheck. The Reel Action crew fights to catch up but takes a serious blow when they snag a shark; Tyler and Paul lose a "monstah" paycheck; and Dave and the crew of Hard Merchandise attempt to finally end their dry spell, or they'll have to cut the season short and head back to Gloucester.

And we're on!

On this episode
of Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

Damn!

Hit the buoy!

Two Southern
vessels are neck-and-neck.

I see color!

In the
battle for bluefin.

Outer Banks, baby!
We need this one.

While
one Northern boat.

We're
gonna do it old school.
It's how we did it at home.

Takes command.

Here he comes!

And catches.

Got him!

The
biggest fish this season.

Oh, boy.

Gotta move, gotta move!

In a highly
regulated fishery that's
trying to stay sustainable.

I'm gonna need help!
We got two on!

Gosh almighty!

Every bluefin caught
takes a bite out of the quota.

These fish are
damn temperamental.

I figure they must
be mostly females.

And every
fisherman has to battle.

Get me the other dart! Go!

For
their fair share.

Nice fish!
Whoo!
He's so pretty!

This is
Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

At the start
of day 16 on the water,
last season's champion,

Fishin' Frenzy, and family
operation Reels of Fortune,

are almost dead even
at the top of the pack.

Meanwhile, northern boats
Hot Tuna and Hard Merchandise,

and female trio Reel Action
struggle to stay in the game.

Now, you gotta
worry about navigating
the boat through the

bridge without destroying it.

This bridge is the reason
why, you know, people are
afraid to go fishing here.

It's our 16th
day on the water.

We've only caught one fish,
and that was on our first day.

We're desperate.

Right now, the only
thing standing in
our way is that bridge.

What do I do here, guys?
What do I do?

You gotta do
what you wanna do.

With the shallow water
and these narrow spans,
my boat is making it

very difficult for me to feel
safe going under that bridge.

The Hot
Tuna's 18 feet wide.

The bridge span
we're going through is
only about 25 feet wide.

So there's no room for error.

We also have a
six-foot keel under the boat.

The keel acts like
an underwater sail.

And going under the bridge
with this super strong
crosscurrent could sweep us

right into that concrete.

A lot of these boats
built for Outer Banks
fishing have flat bottoms.

This puts the Hot Tuna
at a major disadvantage.

Earlier this season,

the 12-foot wide Reels of
Fortune and the 14-foot
wide Hard Merchandise

both hit the bridge.

Dave!

I don't wanna add the
Hot Tuna's name to that list.

Oh, my God!

That bridge right now
has got my knees knockin'.

It's got my palms sweaty, it's
got my mouth dry, and it's got
me literally scared straight.

You can tell
TJ's really nervous
driving through this bridge.

All he's thinkin'
about is destroying the boat
and trying not to do it.

The last phone call he
wants to make is to my father
saying that he hit the bridge

and crashed the boat.

Oh, my God.

If you hesitate one
second, that's when a
problem's gonna happen.

You gotta just go balls to the
wall, get through this bridge,
and not be scared.

And right now, he
looks like he's scared.

Dammit, I can't do it.

TJ, what the
hell are you doing?

I gotta reverse.

I got scared, guys.

There's
boats behind you.
You can't get scared.

Bubby, shut up, man!

You can't get scared.

When my gut
says "don't go," I don't go.

I've gotta reverse hard to get
out of the tide, turn around,
and line up again.

Oh, I had it lined up, man.

Oh, my God!

I'm not gonna risk
my boat and my crew if
I'm not 100% confident.

Maybe I'm the
only dude.

All right.
Let's try this one more time.

Here we go.

You're perfect.
You're good!
You're good!

You're perfect.
You're good.
Ahh!

- Whew!
- Oh!

This place
is up, man.

You can have that.

I mean, I got
the shakes right now.

Good work, TJ.

- Good work, man.
- Oh, my God!

He went, he got
nervous the first time.

I was like, "We're."

Oh, my God.
I'm shakin'.

That was, hands down, one
of the most sketchy things
I've ever had to do in my boat.

And I've done a
lot of scary things.

I've been out in rough seas.

I've taken waves over the bow.
I blew out windows.

I've been out in, in
oceans I shouldn't be out in.

I really hope the
tuna gods bless us
with a fish this time out.

A tuna would calm me
down, that's for sure.

Holy, give me a
shot of tequila, dude.

Mmm.
That was
beeping so loud.

I know.
I'll get you some juice, okay?

My youngest daughter
likes to sleep with me when I
have to leave really early.

Here, sleepy-head Fred.
Yes!
Time to get up.

Time to get up.

And it
really is quality time for us.

While I'm waking up, I
just go through my checklist.

I look at the weather.
I check the wind.
I look at the tides.

Tomorrow, it's
gonna be blowin' 33.

Then I'll start making dinner.

If I can get the Crock-Pot
goin' and get the family fed
before I get home,

it makes it a
lot easier on me.

If it means I cook dinner
at 4:00 in the morning,
then I guess I cook dinner

at 4:00 in the morning.

The Reel Action has only
caught one fish, so there's no
stayin' home and relaxin'.

Bluefin season,
it's a short season.

You don't have
any time to waste.

You gotta go every day and you
gotta make every day count.

I'm goin' fishin'.

I'm gonna miss you.

I'm gonna miss you, too.

It never gets any easier
when you leave your kids
early in the morning.

But I think Sophia's
getting' used to it.

I love you.

I love you too, Mom.

Mom, go
catch a big bluefin!

The clock is tickin'.

We've got more boats
lookin', more boats catchin'.

At this rate, the quota
can get eaten up any time.

We caught our third
fish three days ago.

I'm happy.
The crew seems to be clickin'.

Everybody's kind of
figured out their job.

My son Austin had a
big learning curve at the
beginning of this season

working with Caine and I.

I think he's starting
to learn what it takes to be a
successful bluefin fisherman.

Just set out.
Hopin' to get a bite
here in the near future.

Just so you know,
comin' up here, ploppin' down
and just hangin' out,

ain't nothin'
gonna happen up here.

It's, will be down there.

You notice Caine.

From the time you've
been up here, he's checked
a couple of rigs, you know.

You need to be down there.

Alright.

Workin'
for my dad on the boat is hard.

I feel pressure 24/7.

He's a tough guy, you know.

He's not gonna
go easier on me.

He's gonna go harder.

Britton, he'll treat
him just like he treats me.

So as long as you can
push through any scenario,
you're good to go.

Sometimes I feel
like I'm in over my head,
'cause I'm like,

"Shoot, man,
what have I done?"

Look at that.
There's one there.
Look at that.

Tuna mark.

Ten-fathom tuna
mark, 60-foot.

Oh, no! You gotta go!
You got a slack!

Got him on, got him on.

We're on!

Hey, Austin,
crank this right flat up.

You gotta pay
attention to that, Austin.

These two baits were together.

Come on, fish!

Oh. What are you, what
are you thinkin', bud?

Hard to
tell, now, Brit.

If he's legal,
that's what we want.

Grab some gaffs, Austin.

Never know.
Never know.

I see color.

I don't know.
He's kinda long!

I don't know.
He looks big.

Hey, he ain't big enough.

Nope.

Anything less than 73 inches,
we call them shorts, and we
release 'em.

Look, crank him up here.

Get rid of it.

It's very important for
sustainability, to release
your short fish.

So, right now
with the ballyhoos.

Yeah.
Back with the
ballyhoos for right now.

It's gonna be the quickest
way to get it rigged up.

I'm not worried.

Where there's small bluefin,
there's generally bigger
bluefins.

We just need to keep fishing.

Encouraged by
the bite, though.

It's very encouraging.

That's
some cool animals.

Look at the
ones comin' head to him!

That's badass!

Some of 'em are chargin' ahead
through that other school.

Pretty sweet.

Any life is
good, you know.

These porpoise, they
eat every day, too.

So, it's a good telltale
sign there's something here.

That's where the
predators are.

That's what we're after.

I know Nick and Billon
are ready to be out here
every day possible,

so I'll try and keep them
happy, try and put some
money in the account,

put some money
in their pockets.

Billon, take
over for a second.

I've got to find
something to eat.

- It's on, it's on!
- And we're on!

I'm coming!
I'm coming!

I'm right here!
Right here behind you!

Get on.

I came down here to get
a snack, and we got a bite!

It feels like it
could be a decent fish,
but you'll never know.

We're just gonna stay on
him and keep it tight,
see what happens.

All right, go
ahead and switch 'em, Nick.

- Got him?
- All you.

Nice fish, man!

Might be a
nice hundred-incher.

It's gonna be
worth some money.

350 plus dressed, easy.

I hope we hold on to him.

Fish got a lot
of line out right now.

I don't really
know where he is.

I just can't seem to
get around on him.

I'm gonna go up top
and do somethin' here.

When I'm on the bridge, I can
see the fish better, so I can
maneuver the boat and put it

in the right position.

Hey, Griff.
You standin' by?

Yes, sir.
Is that you, Frenzy?

The one and only.
We got 'em on, Griff.

You
gotta be me!

Greg, he's gonna rub it in.

You're on top right now, man.

That's good on you, but you
have nowhere to go, down.

Finally got the
boat where I want it.

I can keep the fish right
on that corner, which is
the best way for us

to fight these fish.

Ready, Billon?

Take your time, Billon.

- Just stay on him.
- All right.

Well, there's a lot
of stuff could go wrong
with this fish, you know.

It's a little bit choppy,
rollin' the boat up and down.

Too much pressure,
the hook could pull.

Anything can happen.
You never know.

We've got a $5,000 bill
hangin' on a little tiny piece
of monofilament line.

That's the bottom line.

I see him right now.
I see color.

Okay.
I like that!

Look at him.
Up high!

Right where we like 'em.

Here he
comes, right here.

Oh, he's comin'
unwrapped, right now.

Get your dart.
Get your dart.

Oh, man,
this would be sweet.

I see him right there.
I see color.

Okay, I like that.

Here he
comes right here.

Oh he's coming
unwrapped, right now.

Get your dart.
Get your dart.

Oh, man,
this would be sweet.

Nice!

Tail rope, Billon.

I got it.
He's right behind ya.
He's got it.

I need those lines.
Hurry up.

Got 'em.
Yes! Woo!
Yeah, baby!

Yes!
Ha!
Nice fish!

Nice!
Woo!
Yeah, baby!

88! Nice fish!

Woo!
Yeah, buddy!

He's so pretty.

That's another
one for the good guys.

I know telling Griff
that we got him on is gonna
piss him off,

but he should be used to that.

I am happy to have
another one on board!

Oh, boy.

A nice fish.

- 85 or better.
- Oh, boy.

All right, Greg,
you've proven your point, man.
How about give us a turn?

Every single day.

Get out
of the way of the king.

How's it going?

Alright.
How 'bout you?

Cold out there.
Cart right here.

Pickin' up a few
things for the Merch here.

Dave sent me out today
to get more fishing gear.

We keep shelling
out cash to get supplies.

And the messed up thing is we
haven't even caught a fish.

I think I might have got
more stuff than I expected.

No, no, no,
you haven't got enough.

No, I ain't got enough,
yeah, that's fishing, right?

Let's see the damage.

See, you said 300.

It's 372.38.

I'll just stick
'em all in this one box here.

I wish the bluefin
tuna were as nice to us
as the locals are.

Hopefully, some of these
new lures will do the trick.

Say
hi to Dave for me.
Yep! Thank you.

What we need is luck to
finally be on our side.

All right, Jay!

We're ready to go?

We're,
let's hit, yeah, yeah!

She's fixed up,
she's ready to go.

No need for us to
be staying here.

You can drop them lines.

And we'll head back out.

We've spent well over 10 grand
this season with nothing to
show for it.

If we don't catch
soon, we're gonna have to head
back to Gloucester before this

season's even over.

Let's get out there.
Let's go fishin'!

Come on!

If we catch a fish right now,
I will sleep with that son of
a bitch on the deck!

So that's how desperate I am.

I will wrap my arms
around that fat pig like he
was my old man.

So help me God!

We caught our first
and only fish four days ago
out on the water.

I've been in this
fishery 17 years.

I've proved
myself to my fleet.

They know I know
what I'm doing.

I've caught a lot of
bluefin in the past.

I know how to put a
fish on the deck.

Yeah, I'm telling ya,
these fish are damn
temperamental.

I think they must
be mostly females.

Don't know what the
hell they wanna do.

They wanna eat.
They wanna play.
They wanna swim.

But we wanna take
one for a boat ride.

Get a paycheck!

Hey!
Nice one, nice mark!

- You see something?
- Yeah.

Two of 'em, like,
right beside each other.

About a hundred foot!

Whoa! Whoa!
Got 'em on! Got 'em on!

Two on!
I'm gonna need help!

We got two on!

I'm comin'!
I'm comin'!

We got one on the stick.

I got one over here.

I got a fish on.

It doesn't feel
like it's very big.

Oh, got a couple
bites, but I don't know
if they're bluefin.

He's wrapped around Dita!

Hold on, watch out!

Which way?

This way!
Do you want me to
go over or under?

- Got it.
- Okay.

Go Jess.

Jess, Jess, Jess, Jess, crank!

Crank!

It's gonna be a
little blackfin.

It's dinner.

Got us blackfin.

We got us some sushi
for dinner tonight!

Dinner!
Oh, yay!

Sushi!
What you got?
Crank 'em up!

Keep 'em comin'.

Got another blackfin.

Whoa!
And in the boat.

Nice one!

At least we've got
something to eat, 'cause it
looks like we're gonna be out

here for a while.

Sushi, sushi, sushi!

We just
got set out here.

Daggone...

if we can get three, that
would put us right up there.

We'd have us
a ball game then.

Frenzy, he just called
us, told us he caught another
keeper today,

and that's just motivation to
catch one and knock him out of
his top spot.

I mean, I've got good
at knocking things out.

Had to do some
boat work and stuff.

And there's
a piece of bungee...

and I had
it pulled down...

she popped loose
and that thing come up...

and fubared me
right in the face.

Lit my ass up but...

now we got to catch another
one to pay for my tooth.

But it's all good.

We're going to get him,
we're going to get him.

I ain't
worried about it.

There's the mark!

There's the mark, son!

Oh my God.
There's some big
ones in there too, bud.

Gosh almighty!
It's a big fish.

Here we go!

There's the mark!

There's the mark, son!

Oh, my God, there's some
big ones in there too, bud.

Gosh almighty!

It's a big fish.

There he is.
Here we go!

There you go. I gotcha.
I gotcha, I gotcha.

Alright, go.

So right now,
we're behind Frenzy.

So this fish right
here is one step towards
gettin' to him.

It looks good.

I hope we get him.
Today is our day to shine.

This is our
winter's work, you know?

Every single fish, it makes
a difference whether it's a
paycheck or going in the hole.

It's gonna be showtime.

I'm ready to get this
fish up here and see what
we're dealing with.

I still got to fight this fish
by hand to get him up here so
we can sink some gaffs in him.

Keep her coming.

Easy.

What happened?

It just got
tangled up. Keep it coming.

All good now?

There you go.
He had us tangled
up there for a minute.

But we've
got it worked away...

and he's gonna be
on the next leader.

Let's check
this thing out.

See what kind
of savage beast we're
working with today.

See, there he is right
there. A big ol' place of color.

Let's keep
her goin' ahead.

You gotta come
over here and stick him.

Go stick him.

I got him.
Get the other one.

I'm gettin' on
the other side of him.

That's okay.
Do your thing.

Almost here.
Now hold him right there.

There he is.

Slide this under ya.

Okay.

Alright, man. What do
you think about that one, dude?

That's what we needed.

Pretty work,
dude. Good going.

Another keeper makes
for another paycheck.

Can't ask for much more.

He's like me, he's kinda fat.

Other than catching
up to the Frenzy.

Look at that, boy.

81 baby!

81, that'll work.

We'll take that.

Put him
in the cooler.

It's a couple
thousand dollar fish there.

This makes
all the bad stuff, man.

You can live with it.

The damn bridge.

The hanging on with
your fingernails.

Aw, man, I love it.

I love my job.

We're running low
on provisions here, buddy.

Basically out of grub.

Any other time, go
on in, come back out.

But man that whole
bridge thing, you know,
that's just, that just,

that's a bad accident
waiting to happen right there.

There have been one too many
accidents and a lot of near
misses at the bridge.

The fewer times
we have to go through,
the better.

I can stand being hungry.

We'll go in when we need
fuel or we catch a fish.

Yessir.
Yessiree, Bob.

I can only survive
on stale potato chips,
molded-ass Chinese food

and a half can of
tuna for so long.

If we don't catch something
soon, we're gonna have to go
through that bridge.

Not much more
that's miserable than
sittin' on a boat with

no bites and no food.

- Hey you!
- Got him on, got him on!

Ain't very big.
It's like a yellowfin.

That's what it is.

That's right.
We've got some dinner, cuz.

Grab me a gaff, Austin.

You want
me to gaff him?
Yep.

I mean a
bite is a bite.

It's not a Bluefin, it's
not gonna be a payday.

But it's dinner.

Here he is, here he is.

There he is.

Austin,
lift him straight up.

Come on.
No, no, no.

And there goes
our dinner, swims away.

Thanks, Austin.

Nice dinner we've just had.

Ain't but one way to
learn, that's just to do it.

Got to do it.

Losin' that yellowfin
is just another teachable
moment for Austin.

Now he knows what not
to do with the gaff.

Sun's gonna be settin' in a
couple hours, but we are not
goin' in tonight,

and we just got to
keep on fishin'.

Yellowfins,
they're great to eat.

You know, that would
have been supper tonight.

Peanut Butter.
Push comes to shove.

Hey,
you on there, TJ?
Come in.

What's going on?

Ah, it's
not going very well, man.

Between this bridge, and
this inlet, and all this
shallow water,

man, we, we just can't
seem to get it together.

I hear
ya. I'm in the same boat.

We can't even seem
to make the right move at all
when we do get out there.

I don't know.
We're not gonna give up yet.

Oh, yeah, we'll be good.

As long as we can get out
there and get on the meat,
we'll be all right.

I ain't throwing in the
towel yet though, bro.

Yep, the fat lady has
not left the building.

There's still time left.

We just gotta keep
grinding, I guess, till the end.

All right, we'll give you
a shout if we mark and good
luck to ya!

All
right, yep, me too, TJ.

I'll let you know if
we see them over here.
Standing by.

I'm definitely
feeling for Dave.

He doesn't have a
single fish yet.

At least we've caught one.

But every day we don't catch,
we're definitely losing money.

This is the
time they bite, man.

All right, all right.

We're marking, we're marking.

Yeah!

We're on!
We're on!

We're on,
we're on, we're on.

Thing's taking line.

Jarrett get your gloves on.

I'll reel this in.

Oh, Bubby.
What did you do?

It's wrapped around
everywhere, it's wrapped
around everywhere.

TJ, TJ!

Oh, God.
How'd you do that?
What did you touch?

I didn't
do anything, TJ!

Damn it!

Now is the
time they bite, man.

We're on!
We're on!

We're on,
we're on, we're on!

He's taking line.

Jarrett, get your gloves
on, I'll reel this in.

Oh, Bubby.
What did you do?

It's wrapped around
everywhere. It's wrapped
around everywhere!

TJ, TJ!

It's a backlash.

Oh, God.
How'd you do that?
What did you touch?

I didn't
do anything, TJ.

A backlash is when slack
on the line comes back
around the bandit reel

in the wrong direction.

TJ thinks it's my fault, but
it could happen to anyone.

Dammit!

I saw you over
here doing something.

TJ, I was
holding the spool.

That's all I did.

Dammit!

I didn't do anything.

You walked away from it.

I'm so stressed right now,
so it really doesn't take
much to set me off.

Mike just set me off.

We cannot afford
to lose this fish.

It's all right.
Take your time.

He's not pulling.
Take your time.

Take my time?
For real?

No way.

It's around the block here.

All right.
I got it. It's pulling smooth.

I walked away,
you walked up to it.

I didn't know it
was blowing up still.

Huh?
It didn't know it
was still going fffff!

I was holding it.

Think he's still there?
What do you think, Jar?

I don't feel
anything right now.

Yeah, he's gone.
Pulled off, dude.

We just got bit right at
sunset, but I think it's over.

It's getting
tight a little, it's
getting a little tight.

He's still there.

Here
comes a breakaway.

Yeah he's there.

He's
definitely still there.

Fish is still on.
Thank God.

Remember we got that
77 incher last year,
that didn't break it, man.

This could be a $5,000 fish.

What's he look like?

- Is that legal? Eh?
- Nah, it's a rat.

- He's just a rat.
- It's a rat. Small fish.

Be careful.
Be careful.

Don't wrap him.
Damn it.

It's under 73 inches.

We can't keep it.

Watch out.
All right.

This is
definitely a heartbreaker.

I really thought our
dry spell was over.

And now it's just back
to the drawing board.

That was like a 65
to 68 inch fish.

Unfortunately, we
can't harvest them.

It did make a huge explosion
on the stick, so treat
everyone like a big one.

We released him.
He swam away.

One day, somebody will catch
him when he's 800 pounds.

What's going on, Lucas?

Same old.
What do you got in there?

We got a nice
one for you here.

All right,
let's check it out.

I don't like losing.

I'm good at what I do, a
lot of people know it, but,
ha, we just let the numbers

speak for themselves.

No one can
compete with the Frenzy.

Let's go ahead
and see what she dresses.

What do you got there?

229 pounds dressed, Greg.

Good enough.
Nice fish.
Plenty good.

All right,
let's take a look at it.

I really hope that
this fish is top quality.

It needs the fat and the
color to get a good price.

All right, Bub,
let's see what we got.

Our best fish this
season brought $18 a pound.

Come on.

My fingers are crossed
I get at least that
much for this one.

It's got
pretty good tail color.
Nice red.

- Cool.
- Good color fish.

Let's see what the
inside looks like.

Good.
All right.
I like that.

That's a
really nice core.
Not burnt at all.

Great color
all the way through.
Yeah.

Unfortunately,
there's just not too
much fat in it, so.

So what do you think?

What are we, what are we
gonna get for this one?

$13 a pound.
13, that's all right.
We'll take it.

Okay, yeah.

It ain't the best we've ever
got but better than a sharp
stick in the eye.

All right, Bubba, thanks.
We'll see you tomorrow. Okay.

Okay. Thank you.
All right. Take it easy, guys.

This fish helps extend
our lead over the fleet.

We're gonna go out and catch
another one just to let
everyone know who's boss.

The Frenzy's on top.

But everyone's gunning for us.
We can't rest now.

Be nice to go
home and eat a hot dinner
and sleep in my own bed.

I feel like crying.

Just makes me wanna cry.

- Huh?
- Makes you wanna cry.

Morale's
running a little bit low.

Been out here for a
number of days here now.

We haven't had a bite
and we haven't caught a fish.

It's time to head in.

Just a bad, bad deal.

I mean if I'm,
if I hit the bridge on
this particular boat,

I got to worry about my son.

I've got to
worry about my mate,
worry about myself.

Water's cold, cold.

And it happens just like that.

If you don't pick the
right span in the
bridge to go through,

you're not gonna make it.

Here we go, Caine-o.

Here we go.

Dag, look at that
thing rolling up there, bud.

Where we
usually come in.

Yeah, where
we usually come in.

About like to drag,
no, it's gonna be some
bang-a-langing here, boy.

You have to factor in the
depth, you have to factor in
the current,

and you have to
factor in your height.

Look how
shallow that is right there.

Lord let
us get through here.

This is Russian roulette.

Ah!

Here we go Caine-o!

Here we go.

Dag, look at that
thing rolling up there, Bud.

Where we
usually come in.

Yeah, where
we usually come in.

About like to
drag, like to drag.

No, it's going to be some
bang-a-langing here, boy.

Did the stick hit?

- No.
- Or just the antenna?

Antenna, the big one.
The big stick hit.
Yeah, oh, yeah.

Not the greenstick.
The, the big antenna.

Ah!

About jumped out of my skin.

Communication is everything.

Your nut came
off of that big stick.

- The nut?
- Something.

The antenna
is very expensive.

And if the antenna is broken,
it's gonna put me back at
least a day.

I can't not have
communication.

That's more money
down the drain.

I've got to test it.

Anybody else on, still putting
out, sounds strong or not?

You're putting out fine.

I got you good. Okay.

That's a load off
my mind knowing that
the antenna's fine.

We made it back safely.

The boat's not torn up.
Thank the Lord.

How'd you
sleep last night?
Not very much.

Not very much sleep
last night, boss.

I heard Fishin'
Frenzy weighed a really nice
fish earlier today.

I gotta admit it,
man, if this fish right here
would be good enough to put us

over Greg, that'd be awesome.

That'd
drive him crazy.
What's going on, Bud?

You tell me, man.
What have you
got for me today?

Well, he's, he's not
the biggest one we've caught,

but hopefully he's
one of the best.

All right.
Get ready for this, boys.

281.

Good deal.
We keeping up, Jake?

Hell, I
gotta buy a tooth.

That's right.

Hopefully, this
fish will pay for it.

I got to get
something straight.

I don't know if
it's silver or gold yet.

If we're going
to fix something up.
We're gonna do it right.

All right, Dennis.

Let's see, see what it
looks like to you, buddy.

Let's take a look.
All right. Be good,
baby. Be fat like me!

It feels
good, I'll tell you that.

The knife feels really good.

This right
here is a pretty good
telltale right here.

Show me something good.

Nice cherry core.

Nice clarity.
White meat here.
Buttery, oily meat.

Could see a little more
in the minor lobes but
nice fish, this size.

All right, Bud.
What do you think, man?

Drum roll.

$16 a pound.
Awesome.
That's great. That's great.

$16 a pound is
nothing to laugh at.

That's good money.

We don't have to have a
shiny boat to catch nice fish.

All right, Buddy.
Well, thank you a lot, man.

Thank you.
Good luck tomorrow.
Thank you, sir.

Thank you.

Frenzy, I guarantee you.
He's feeling us.

We have a little bit of
time left, some fish around.

So we're gonna get after it.

You see this boat
off of our port side here.

They're backing down
on a fish right now.

They just hooked up maybe
about like 10 minutes ago.

We got a lot of birds working
around right here, so it's
looking really good.

We're only about five
miles offshore right now.

Sometimes, you don't have
to go 50 miles offshore
to find these fish.

Hopefully, this is
one of those times.

Everything's here.
All the sign is here.

We just need one to
jump on the line.

I don't think
TJ trusts me after the
bandit reel fiasco,

but I'm gonna prove
I know what I'm doing.

Yeah, that looks
like a pile of 'em.

Look at this bro!

It's definitely weird to be
fishing this close to shore.

There's no doubt about it.

But as you can see,
there's a guy yanking
on one right next to us

and we're seeing
plenty of bird life.

With only one fish to
our name this season, I'm
terrified that making the

600-mile trek down
from Gloucester
isn't gonna pay off.

We need meat on the deck now.

We're gonna get 'em.

man.

We're on!

We're on, we're on, we're on!

He's taking line.
It's a tuna for sure.

You wanna move?
We can move it.

Ready?

Feels good.
Feels like a keeper.

Feels so great to be
hooked right up right now.

I mean, we
really need this one.

Oh, sorry!
I gotta stay on
top of 'em, bro.

Bubby, get ready.

Get on it.

Turn, turn, turn,
turn, turn, Bubby turn.

Come on
fish, come to Bubby.

He's bigger than we think.
Look at the tip.

Keep coming back.
Keep coming back.

There you go, Bubby.
There you go.
Bring it back to us.

Bring it back to us.

I definitely always
feel like I gotta prove
myself to TJ, you know.

That's a part of life.

You always gotta prove
yourself to somebody.

And to prove yourself to a big
brother, there's nothing
better than that.

Outer Banks, baby.
We need this one. Woo!

You can have your swordfish.
You can have your Marlin.

There is nothing like
this fish in the ocean.

Bubby, remember,
it's, it's shallow water.

So if he wants to
go, let him go.

You know what I'm saying?

We had him up
on the surface once.

And then he took off
on a nice, strong run.

Tough fish.
Trying to settle him in.

He's going down,
and he takes off.

Wild fish, man.

Jarrett, you want to
hop up on here for a minute?

Forward a little bit.

That's good.

I can see color!

Here he comes!

He's coming out of the water.

Bubby, stand next
to the harpoon, Bubby.

- Right here.
- Stand next to it.

Over here, over
here, over here!
Over here!

Okay! Relax!

Could have
got a shot there.

Come on, bro.
We need this one.

You got him, you got him.

Good job, bro.
Good job!

Every inch, matters.

There he is, there he is.

- It's a big one!
- This is a slob.

Keep
reeling, keep reeling!
I can't get it him here.

Try again.
One more.

- Oh.
- Sorry, bro.

Good job, Jarrett.

Here he comes!

Ready?
Take the shot!

Oh!
I missed him!

One more time, come on.

No, no, no! Come on!
Get me the other dart.

Get me the other dart! Go!

Here he comes!

Ready?
This is a slob.
Take the shot.

No, no, no! Come on!
Get me the other dart!

Get me the other dart! Go!

Missed him.

Come on!
Come on!

Bring him right here.

Got him! Gaff!

Watch him.
Watch him!

You got
a hold on him.

He's strong.

In the head, Bubby!
In the head! In the head!
Get him! Get him!

I got him!
Get the gaff, the gaff!
On the left.

On left.
Move the tail up.
We, I got it.

Get it off. Get it off.
No just get it off.

Huge fish.

Whoo-hoo!

Whoo!
Oh my God.
Yeah!

Whoo!
Yeah!
Whoo!

Oh, yeah!
Whoo!
Jumbo, baby!

Finally, we got
some meat on the deck.

I was worried the tuna
gods weren't gonna come
through for us today.

You did so good today.
I'm so proud of you, Bubba.

Thank you.
Thank you.

You're a good boy, too.
Aw.
Thank you. Thank you.

Whoa.
Ho-ho-ho, hooo.
Ho-ho-ho-ho.

That's a jumbo, man.

Nice work.

Nice Outer
Banks sea monster, huh?

What do you think?
What do you think?

I think 101 right now.

107.

Whoo!
Wow!
Ho-ho-ho-ho!

That's a beautiful fish
for the Outer Banks, man.

That is a beauty.

Think that's the biggest
one we ever caught down here.

It's bigger
than Bubba, that one.

Maybe TJ
can calm down now.

He's got a great crew here.

This fish might
dress 500 pounds.

20 bucks a pound,
that's 10 grand, man.

What are you thinking?
You think this is good?
You want this?

You ready for this?

Give me a high five.

There you go.

Good girl.

If she eats it, it's
always a good one.

This is a great feeling, baby.
Pa-pow!

Our strategy today
is we're gonna start right
out with chummin'.

We're gonna do it old school.

That's how we did it at home.

We set up, we throw some
chum, and we see what
we come in the chum.

We had
a great season back
in Gloucester, and it,

you know, we were hoping to
bring that forward down here.

Now, it's lookin' like
I possibly should've
quit while I was ahead.

It's important to me now that
at least, you know, I get to
pay Jay something.

And right now if we don't at
least get some money, I can't
pay Jay anything at all.

Jay is the best
crewman in the fleet.

Through thick and
thin, Jay sticks around.

I've been working
with Dave for 10 years now.

He's the best fisherman
I know and I trust him with
everything I got.

But the thought of working
this hard and not making no
paychecks totally sucks,

but it is what it is.

That's fishing.

That's the break.
Tuna fishing is
always a gamble.

And so far, this
gamble hasn't paid off.

As far as I'm
concerned we're still
chasing Big Foot, unicorns,

and possibly
honest politicians too.

Coming back
into port here with a
beautiful fish, big fish.

There's a lot of competition
here, it's a small quota.

And the fact that we have a
big, big fish down in the hold
right now has got everyone

onboard feeling very happy.

After catching only
one fish over our first
16 days on the water,

I was definitely
starting to lose faith.

But the tuna gods have
sent another one our way
and it's a monster.

Yeah, we did our job.

Hopefully, the buyer
can do his now and give
us a big price.

Hey, guys,
congratulations!

It's nice to be back, man.
Good to see ya.
Been a while.

We're stoked.
All right.
Hopefully it'll be a good one.

I hope so.
He fought the good fight.

He's got big
shoulders on him, big belly.

This fish is
almost nine feet long.

Hopefully, this slob will
weigh in at least 600 pounds.

Check him out.
See what we got.

Yeah.
Let's see what we got here.

Everybody ready?

What do ya got?
What do ya got?

All right, 623.
Yeah.
Whoo!

Beautiful.
Nice.
All right, guys.

That's
a good one, man.
Way to go.

- Good job, buddy.
- Nice fish.

That's bigger than
anything we caught last year.

Yeah.
That's for sure.
All right.

This is our second fish.

Our first one brought
us more than six grand.

This fish is a lot bigger
so I'm counting on a
much bigger payday.

All right, let's
see this core sample.
Check it out.

Let's check if
you got a good one.

No burn, baby, no burn.
Nice.
Beautiful.

Yeah.
Nice and red.

Color's not bad.

Good oil?
Yeah.
Greasy?

Yep.
But you don't
have a lot of fat.

A little bit in the minors.

Little bit in the
majors, not much.

But for this big of a
fish, I wouldn't expect much.

Well, guys, not a bad
fish, not, not a stellar
diamond or anything.

What do you think?

Well, I think
this fish should get you

$15 a pound.

All right!
Yeah.
All right.

- Sold!
- Whoo!

Y'all will let
me live another day.

You can live another day.

Our biggest Outer Banks fish
has gotten us over nine grand.

Pa-pow.

This one should bring us
closer to the top of the pack.

- All right.
- See ya tomorrow.

Well, hopefully
we'll see ya tomorrow.

Thanks, buddy.
Have a great one.

All right, see ya.
Let's go get another one.

Pa-pow!

At the end of day
17 on the water, Hot Tuna's
massive fish launches them

into third place, while
Reels of Fortune's $4,500
payday pushes them back

ahead of last season's
champion Fishin' Frenzy.

They're here!

We're gettin' boarded
by the Coast Guard, man!

Today's my lucky day!

Oh my God, y'all are
brave, comin' on a boatload...

of women who've
been at sea for days.

Whoo!

Brand new flares.

And in here's
all our life jackets.

I'm the only single one.
They're married.

Yep.

He's
the only single one.

So how you doin'?

I love a
man in a uniform.

ISS complete.

Yeah!

All right,
ladies, have a great day.

See ya.
Thank you, guys!
Thank you so much!

Nice to meet ya!
Whoa.

I just broke out in a sweat!

I'm feelin' a little
tingle to my jingle!

They were some
cuties, weren't they?

And the single one
was a cutie. Imagine that!

I know!
Usually, it's
only the married ones.

All right I'm feelin' lucky.
