who I have immense respect for

And he is the kind of artist
that we all wish we could be.

He's been through a lot
in his life,

to be able to share
the way he does,

and I just was
really inspired by him.

Payge is really interesting.

She's more like rock. No!

Ryan is a singer-songwriter,

and he has a little bit of soul.

They both have
these strong identities.

She knows how to work the stage,

and I always
just kind of feel lanky

I connect

because moving to the U.S.,

leaving my mom, and then
coming into a different country

and learning
the different cultures,

I was the jock,
but I was also the theater geek.

I've always been the person
that never fits in, in school.

Gwen: I definitely see myself
in Payge.

Like, we would be
in a band together.

We have kind of similar vibes.

It seems like you're focusing
on the singing

as opposed to
the message for me.

I think you can act
that out even more.

The more awkward and odd
you can be,

even in the way that
you're telling the story,

like, "I'm a creep." Yes.

I think that the song is about
finding a home in a girl.

When I perform this song,

I'm thinking about
my girlfriend, Kathy.

Kathy and I met at
a burger restaurant in Dallas

that we used to work at,

and we've been together
for about seven years now.

So the burger did the trick,
for sure.

Musicianship is a very painful,
long journey.

It takes a specific
support system,

and I feel like
I've found that in Kathy.

I want to hear
more of the definition

of the different parts
of your voice.

You got me early because
of the tone of your voice,

and then halfway through it,

I felt like you really gave it
even more than was necessary.

I think that it starts
to take away from the emotion

if you're pushing too hard
on the gas.
