Season 01 Episode 22 IMDB

[Paddington] Dear Aunt Lucy,
Episode Title: "Paddington and Halloween" 1 of 2

this week, I learned about
another celebration,

where children
get to dress up and have fun.

Actually, it's not just
the children having fun.

[Mock scary cry]

[Scottish accent] Mr. Brown,
perhaps you could help me make the toast.

[Sighs]

I will make you jump this year, Mrs. Bird.

You say that every Halloween,
but unfortunately for you,

I am like a bird with no wings.

Unflappable.

Right. Let's get decorating!

- [laughter]
- Oh, look at all this horrid stuff.

[Makes ghost noises]

- What's going on?
- It's Halloween!

Halloween?

[Makes ghost noises]

Halloween is a very special
and spooky day, Paddington.

It must be a special day.
Mrs. Bird is putting cobwebs up,

when she's normally trying
to take them down.

It's a very old tradition, Paddington.

When people used to think that
wicked beasties walked the Earth,

so they made up traditions
to scare them away.

- I'm not sure that sounds very fun.
- Oh, it is!

Let me show you.

First, we decorated the house.

This doesn't seem very scary.

Aaah!

Sorry!

- How does that look?
- Hmm. A little higher, dear.

Please try and keep these decorations
to a minimum.

- Don't be such a misery.
- It's Halloween, Mr. Curry.

Yes, well, make sure
you only decorate your house.

I don't want skeletons
obscuring my windows.

Why don't you join us, Mr. Curry?

- We're having all sorts of fun.
- No. Thank you very much.

Do you really not like Halloween,
Mr. Curry?

I hate it. I shall lock my door,
turn my lights off,

and sit quietly till
the whole sorry business is over.

- Aaah!
- [Jonathan] Sorry!

And so, Aunt Lucy,

Jonathan and Judy kindly showed me
some more Halloween traditions.

Remember, Paddington, you have
to carve the scariest face you can.

- Like this!
- Aaah!

- Finished.
- Aaah!

Whoa!

I'm okay!

[Humming]

Wa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

[Humming]

I'll scare you next time.

There was, however,
one tradition, Aunt Lucy,

that I just wasn't sure about.

Tell me again,
why am I dressed up as Pigeonton?

[Coos]

Trick or treating.

We all dress up in scary costumes,
knock on people's doors,

and shout…

Trick or treat!

And if they don't give you a treat,
you play a trick.

- Oh, dear.
- What's wrong, Paddington?

- I thought you liked treats.
- I love treats.

Well, I know it's a tradition,

but it's just playing tricks
on someone sounds a little mean.

- Is it a little mean?
- Well, I suppose it's… um…

Would you mind awfully
if I did a "treat or treat?"

How would that work?

Well, if someone was good enough
to give me a treat,

I'd give them a treat too.

And even if they didn't,
they'd still get one from me.

How does that sound?

Can we all still be dressed up?

- Of course.
- Okay. I'll give it a try.

Just to make sure,
we do still get treats, right?

- Yes.
- [footsteps]

Right. Are we all set
to go out trick or treating?

Ooh! Treat or treating.
It does sound much nicer.

Oh, yes. And I've got a big hat
of treats with me, Mrs. Brown.

- Let me guess. Marmalade sandwiches?
- No. Not all.

Some of them are marmalade rolls.

[Chuckles]

Treat or treat!

[Chuckles]

[Hungarian accent] Oh, my goodness!
I was expecting a visit from the Browns,

but what do I see?

A witch, Pigeonton
and a boy with a box on his head.

- I'm an astronaut!
- Oh, sorry.

An astronaut with a box on his head.

- Treat or treat, Mr. Gruber.
- Ha, ha! Of course.

Treats for all.

And here's a little treat for you,
Mr. Gruber.

Oh, how generous!

You must have more treats.

And so must you.

How generous.

You must have more treats.

- And here's a little treat for you.
- Thank you! We'll be here all night.

Lovely to see you, Mr. Gruber,
and happy Halloween.

Ooh!

[Gasps]

[Straining]

[Straining]

[Straining]

Oh, goodness me!
I just can't get these nuts out!

Are you having trouble there, Mr. Brown?

Just trying to get
into this tin of nuts, Mrs. Bird.

Och! Give them here.

[Sniggers]

I'm afraid you've been tricked.
There's no nuts in this tin at all.

Hmm.

Aaah!

[Grunting] Next time, Mrs. Bird.

Next time.

[Mysterious music]

Treat or treat!

Happy Noche de Brujas!

- Oh, dear.
- What is it, cariño?

Well, we aren't out celebrating…
N… Noche de Brujas.

- We are celebrating Halloween.
- [chuckles]

So are we, Paddington.

- That's what we call it in Colombia.
- Noche de Brujas.

We're going treat or treating.

- Do you do that in Colombia too?
- We do something similar.

And we have a great little rhyme.

♪ Triqui, triqui, Halloween

♪ Y si no me da

It means,

♪ Triqui, triqui, Halloween ♪

I want candy.

your nose will grow. [Chuckles]

But I didn't bring any candy.
I brought marmalade sandwiches.

Oh, marmalade sandwiches
will do just fine.

Your nose is safe.

- Thank you.
- Thank you.

- Thank you.
- Goodbye!

Happy Noche de Brujas!

Ooh! Before you knock on the door,
I just want to remind everyone

that in the past Miss Potts has been
a little bit jumpy on Halloween.

Mrs. Brown, the last thing
we want to do is scare her.

[Ring doorbell]

[All] Aaah!

Aaah! Oh!

This was supposed to be
a relaxing face pack.

Welcome back, treat or treaters.

Did you have a good night?

For the world's first
treat-or-treat session,

I'd say it was brilliant!

Look! Mr. Curry's door is open.

He did say he was going to lock it.

I do hope everything's all right.

We'd better go right in
and see if we can find him,

just to be on the safe side.

[Scary music]

Mr. Curry?

Mr. Curry, are you here?

Children, check the living room.

We'll go upstairs.
Mrs. Bird, you go in the kitchen.

- [Giggles]
- What at are you laughing at?

No, nothing. Nothing.

[Chuckles]

- [Judy] Mr. Curry.
- [Jonathan] Mr. Curry, you here?

[Paddington] Mr. Curry?

Aaah!

[Scary music]

Mr. Curry!

Mr. Curry?

Are you all right?

- [Clanging]
- [gasps]

Boo!

Aaah!

Ha!

We flapped the unflappable Mrs. Bird.

[Both] Best Halloween ever!

You didn't scare me. Huh!

I was… All right, you did scare me.

Did you two cook this up together?

We did! It was the only way
I could think of to scare you.

But I thought you said
you didn't like Halloween.

[Chuckles] That was all part of the plan.

Wasn't it, Mr. Brown? Not like Halloween?

I love it!

I get to dress up in scary clothes

and shout at the neighbourhood children
and no one tells me off!

Best night of the year!

Here, kids. Treats all round.

I hope you like toe sausages.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

[All] Happy Halloween!

We all decided it was much more fun
to give treats rather than tricks.

Apart from Mr. Curry,

who really liked the trick
he and Mr. Brown played on Mrs. Bird.

They were just like children.

Which is right, for Halloween.

So, the tricks are over for another year.

Love from Paddington.

Wa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

You'll have to do better than that,
Mr. Brown.

Sticking to me.

Don't worry, Paddington.

This tree loses its leaves every year
