RuPaul's Drag Race (2009–…): Season 12, Episode 10 - Superfan Makeover - full transcript

The queens must makeover Drag Race superfans. But there's one thing... the superfans have no idea what's about to happen to them. Actress Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) guest judges.

[RuPaul] Previously
on RuPaul's Drag Race.

It's time for America's
first drag queen president.

You vow to make America
what again?

Glitter again.

I would like to "retattle"
the "retittle" of her rebuttal.

What?

Look over there.

-Where?
-[laughing]

A change is on the horizon.

Thank you.

[RuPaul] The Widow Von'Du.

I was craving, like,
a joke punch up in there.

[RuPaul] Jackie Cox.

The Canada thing
became a little tiresome.

[RuPaul] Jaida Essence Hall.

You had the best
off-the-cuff remarks in the debate.

You are the winner
of this week's challenge.

[applause]

Jackie Cox, shantay, you stay.

Widow Von'Du, sashay away.

[dramatic music playing]

Ooh.

[sighs]
Lord.

Widow has just been eliminated,
and it was sad to see her go.

"I hope I made you proud, Kansas City."

-I'm going to miss her crazy ass so much.
-[Gigi] Yeah.

I saw that look in Widow's eyes,
and I could see her in her head.

It was hard seeing her like that.

Widow's inner saboteur
really was her doing-in.

When she did...

It just feels like
it was all for nothing.

...that's basically you signalling
"I want to go home" at that point.

[Jaida] This is a clear lesson to us.

When you have, like, doubts,
or get in that negative mind space,

that we need to, like,
clear away from that

because ultimately, being in that place
is what got Widow in this position.

And with that, I think we bid
Miss Widow Von'Du adieu.

Is that-- Is that French?
Did I speak French?

[laughing]

What I can learn from her
in this situation is just

making sure that your mind
is in the right place because

if it's not, then, baby,
everything else will fall to pieces.

So, Miss Thing,
how are you feeling? You survived.

In that moment of lip-syncing,
wearing this outfit,

I felt more alive
than I've ever felt in this competition.

The silver lining for me is
that I got to perform in this outfit

and represent everyone
who wears a hijab, who looks different.

Coming off this lip-sync,
I have a fire lit up under my ass,

and I have to show the judges that I need
to be here all the way through to the end.

-Some whore, I don't know her name...
-[laughing]

Her name's Jaida, she-- she won
the challenge. Congratulations, bitch.

[cheering]

-You deserved it.
-[Jaida] Child.

So we have two two-time winners,

one three-time winner,

one one-time winner

and Crystal and me.

-No winners.
-Losers.

You know, I can't complain.
It's my third week in the top.

Mama's been on a roll, baby.
Mama's been on a roll.

Chugga chugga chugga chugga...

Heidi and Crystal are on this trajectory,
I've been on this trajectory.

So, I'm the one
who's really at the bottom here.

I need a win.

-[Heidi] Girl.
-[Gigi] I need to escape.

Top six, bitches.

[Gigi] It's top six now.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It could just be a train coming,
but I can see my way to the top four.

All I gotta do is make it
through two more girls.

There's no way in hell
I'm not claiming a spot.

[tense music playing]

[yelps] My hair.
[screams]

-[Jackie] Heidi.
-I can't have nothing nice.

-we're gonna go full-out because--
-Do whatever you want.

With my face, it can go on anyone.

-And I think we're gonna look great.

What got you into Drag Race?

I've always been, like, really colorful,

I've had, like, extreme hair
and a lot of makeup, but, um...

I would get asked
pretty regularly if I was a man,

like, even starting
from the time I was, like, 15.

[Sherry] Oh, my God.

And I-I was really
uncomfortable about it at first,

and then I kind of
discovered the world of drag

and I was like, actually,
I think these are my sisters.

And so I started
going to live drag shows

really early, like when I was 18, 19.

I kind of grew up with the culture,

and then when Drag Race showed up,
I was like, hell yeah, that's my jam.

My drag is like, super,
like, very, like, kind of bougie,

-but I'm a ghetto bitch at heart, so.

-Not a lot of skin, like, leg.
-Okay.

Are you comfortable with showing leg?

Um... I have not shown

[Heidi] Nicole is a tad bit insecure,

but I can see
that there is a diva in there.

She is ready to break out.

I want you to really exude
confidence and beauty...

-Mm-hmm.
-...in this.

-I used to feel confident.
-Well, what happened?

Bullying.

People suck.

-Oh, trust, they do.
-People suck.

And in this day and age,
everybody has a phone

and everybody can take a picture
of something, make a meme or something.

And it's just-- I feel like--
[sniffles]

[sniffles] Ev--

It just made it really hard.

Aww, come here.

[Heidi whispering] It's okay.

Through Nicole's life,
she's been belittled by so many people.

She's been made fun of, bullied, put down

for being on the heavier side.

She's really gone through a lot.

That really has hurt her self-esteem.

I want her to blossom out
and be proud of who she is.

You can't let
what other people say hold you back.

-Yeah.
-Because all that hardship

that you've gone through,
you have to use that as armor.

-Okay.
-And you want to live your life

-bold and beautiful.
-Yes.

I don't know if that was
copy-written right there.

[laughing]

[Heidi] I want Nicole to really break free

and cut loose on that stage.

-We gonna let these hos beat us or no?
-No, no.

-Well, then, now we talking language.
-No, no.

Now we talking turkey.

-What's up?
-What's up?

Let's look at these lashes now,
let's figure this out.

[Heidi] Okay.

Um... Mainly I'm trying to channel
my inner drag queen

and not let
my inner anxiety, like, take over.

Grace is really similar to me in the fact
that she is positive and outgoing,

but sometimes she gets
a little bit anxious.

Whenever I'm feeling,
yeah, like, overwhelmed,

I just have to, like,
stop thinking about what's happening.

-[Grace] Mm-hmm.
-Breathe for a little bit.

Something I do when I'm really nervous is

I kind of do the Wonder Woman pose.

Put your hands on your hips like this

-and you, like, stick your chest out.
-Yeah.

-And here, yeah.
-Let's do it.

So it's like...

You stand with your feet wide,
and then you take some big deep breaths.

And you just kind of, like,
let the nerves kind of settle,

then it becomes, like, your armor.

So I do that before
every meeting I'm nervous about

-and Wonder Woman's never nervous.
-Right.

-So you become like Wonder Woman.
-[laughing]

-I'm gonna start stealing that...
-Oh, have it all you want.

...and doing it before the runway.

[Jaida] Crystal and Grace are over here
talking about healing powers.

I don't know what the hell
that got to do with this runway challenge.

Child...

[laughing]

Yay.

Hey, squirrel friends.

[all] Hi.

Anybody find a nut?

[Heidi] I got two.

-Well, come on, red earrings.
-Hello.

-Hi, Ru.
-Hi.

-Bethany and Miss Jaida.
-Yes.

-Now, you got to choose who you wanted...
-Yes.

...to make over.
Why did you choose Bethany?

I'm, like, I'm really big into energy

and, like, when I looked over
and I saw Bethany,

I was like, she seems
a little more reserved,

but I bet you there's
a wild side in there somewhere

that needs to be released.

And I was right.

-[laughing]
-Uh-huh, good.

-I know that you go to Drag Con, right?
-[Bethany] Yes.

-And you bring your daughter?
-Yes.

Why? Why is that?

'Cause, you know, you understand.
That's not something that all parents do.

-It should be. Should be.
-It should be.

-Why should it be?
-It is a happy place.

My oldest says, like,
look at all these pretty princesses.

And I get to show her
that she can be whatever she wants to do.

How fabulous for a parent
to open that door for their child.

So have you ever been in drag before?

-No.
-No?

Ever wear false eyelashes?

No? And have you
put people in drag before?

Oh, yes, a lot.

Like, before I came here, I would work as
a makeup artist for a lot of drag queens.

Then, like, travel
to different states for pageants.

Okay.

This is the thing,
this is a winning family.

She knows that I'm a strong mother,
and I like winning.

If she does not win, don't come home.

[laughing]

You already know, when in doubt,
turn it out, baby.

Well, I can't wait.
I'll see you all out there.

-All right. Thank you so much, Ru.
-All right, bye.

Hi, kids.

-Hello.
Hi, Ru.

-Janet the Planet.
-Hello.

-Now, you are six feet tall.
-I am.

-And you've always been that way.
-I have.

What effect did that have
on your personality?

It was intense. I think
I wanted to curl and hide,

but I have a dad
who's really tall, he's like 6'6.

And he would say: "Tall is beautiful,
tall is beautiful. Stand up."

That's right. You're not meant to fit in,
you're meant to stand out.

-And that's what drag does.
-Mm-hmm.

-And you are legally Janet the Planet.
-I am legally Janet the Planet.

I changed my name
more than 20 years ago.

It was really to remind myself
to not take myself too seriously.

Okay, I'm officially in love with you.

Oh, Ru.

[Gigi] I think my competition
in this challenge specifically

is Sherry Pie

because Janet the Planet
seems like a roller coaster of a woman.

She seems like she is ready
to give anything and everything.

Now, Sherry Pie, you've been called out
for being sort of an older lady.

-Yes.
-Is she gonna be an old lady?

Um, not an older woman.

We are hearkening back,
though, to an older time.

-Oh, okay, so the answer is...
-[both at the same time] Yes.

[laughing]

But we're gonna be
young women in an older time.

We're gonna be
old ladies with young spirits.

I cannot wait to see what happens.

-All right, bye, guys.
-[Sherry] Bye.

-Hello, ladies.
-Well, good morning.

Look, you've got, like,
a family resemblance already.

-I know, who's who?
-[RuPaul] How 'bout that?

And you're Shea.

-I am.
-For now.

-[RuPaul] For now?
-For now.

Oh, so there's a drag name coming.

Is she from the good family
or the bad family?

Oh... [laughing]

I can't give away too much,
but I think you're onto something.

[RuPaul] Yeah, I think so.

So, Shea, what does drag mean to you?

To me, I feel like
RuPaul's Drag Race really

creates community for people
that don't have that at home

where they're living, you know,
kind of thing.

And being put into queer spaces
because of RuPaul's Drag Race

has, like, made me
more comfortable with who I am.

I love hearing that because
that's really what this is about,

it's bringing people together
and turning people on to

what makes life so exciting.

Now, Gigi, give me a little assessment
of what you're feeling right now.

Well, I was in the bottom
the last two weeks.

But I'm treating this
as if that never happened.

I am going to work my way back up
to the top this week.

This is gonna be very exciting,
it's actually life-changing.

-All right, I'll see you guys out there.
-Thank you, RuPaul.

Thanks, bye.

There's no way for me to be okay
with being in the bottom again.

I have to be in the top this time.

Heidi Aphrodite.

Hi.

-And Miss Nicole.
-Yes.

Now, I don't know if you heard this story,
but she came here as Heidi N Closet.

-Yes.
-[whispers] Rotten.

-[laughing]
-Rot-- Wrong. Oh.

So every time I tried
to call her something different,

now her name is Heidi Aphrodite.

Which I'm living for. That--
Can I take that one?

Please, if there's
a God in heaven, you will.

Does anything about
this experience scare you at all?

Um, everything.

-[RuPaul] Like what?
-[laughing]

I'm a bigger girl, so these legs
haven't seen the sunlight since '98.

-Just trying to hide.
-[Heidi] Show what you got.

Oh, see, there's a keyword: hide.

This is not about hiding.

-I know. [laughing]
-And you're scared of that?

[Nicole] Oh, just a tad.

Growing up I was
made fun of a lot, bullied horribly.

And so, it's just,
I felt I can just blend in.

Yeah. You don't want to blend in.

You were not born to blend in.
You were born to stand out.

Listen, drag doesn't change who you are,
it actually reveals who you are.

So whatever emerges,
do not be afraid of what comes out.

Drag is just, what my husband and I,
we coined: drag brings joy.

-Drag brings joy.
-Mm-hmm.

-I lo-- write that down.
-Write that down.

#DragBringsJoy.
I want my credit.

Yeah, you better give her the credit.

I always give credit for stuff that I use.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

-All right, is this yours?

-I love this.
-[Heidi] We got to talking,

and it kind of came up
that she loves disco.

-Very much so.
-Oh, my goodness.

What's your-- do you have
a favorite disco song?

-"Enough Is Enough."
-Oh, "Enough Is Enough."

Yes. Donna Summer.

So we're bringing
Donna Summers and Diana Ross.

You see, no, colored people
always say Donna Summers.

-Yes.
-So her name is Donna Summ-er.

-One summer.
-One summer, one motherfuckin' summer.

-One summer.
-Donna Summer.

-Just one, just one.
-[laughing]

All right, listen. I cannot wait.
It's gonna be fun.

-Yes, it is. We gonna turn it out.
-[RuPaul] I cannot wait to see

what emerges with you, girl.

-All righty.
-All right, I'll see you all out there.

-Put some Grace in your face.

-[Crystal] Hey, Ru.
-Oh, my God.

-[RuPaul] Hi, Grace.
-Hi, Ru.

-Hi, El DeBarge.
-Hello.

-How you doing?
-Good.

Now, you guys were paired together,
is it a match made in heaven?

-I think so, yeah.
-I think so.

-We have a lot in common.
-Mm-hmm.

We're both Aries, we love to doodle...

-Yes.
-...we're a little bit nerdy.

-Have you ever had a mullet?
-No mullet, not yet.

Now, are you nervous about this?

Well, I'm nervous 'cause you're here,
and I'm trying to not pass out right now.

[laughing] Yes.

But I'm very honored
to be a part of the House of Methyd.

I'm gonna do whatever I can
to get her her first win.

Okay, that sounds great.

I will see you kids out there, okay?

-Thanks, Ru.
-All right, bye.

Thank you, bye.

Oh, my God.

[RuPaul] Jackie Cox and Miss Tiffany.

-Hi.
-Oh, my, I see the family resemblance.

Here we are.

So, now, you're Jackie Cox.
Have you guys come up with a name?

-Yes.
-What is your drag name?

Li'l Snackie Cox.

[laughing]

Am I wrong?

Oh, that's good.

So, have you plotted out the look,
you know, the family resemblance?

Well, I think we're going with
mother-daughter out of the disco.

Jackie's taking Li'l Snackie
out for the first time

and she's gonna show her, you know,
the Cox way of getting the men-ses.

[RuPaul] Okay.

Why on this one challenge
when I decide to do a disco '70s look

that you also want to decide.

Well, let's push up 10 more years
and join the '70s there, too.

Bitch.

[laughing]
The nerve.

So, Miss Jackie.

You were in the bottom last week.

[sighs]
I was.

How are you gonna make sure
you don't wind up there again?

You know, that lip-sync lit a fire
that is so hot under my ass,

it is burning up and we either gotta
call the doctor or I gotta win.

[laughing]

So I'm ready to just go out there.
Look at this energy.

I mean, this energy
is giving me so much life, like...

We're gonna be in the top.

Okay, good. Fireworks.

-It's coming.
-All right.

All right, ladies, gather round.

Gather round, ladies.

Now, tomorrow on the main stage,

you'll be making your drag family debut.

Oh, and one more thing.

[disappointed sighing]

No Drag Race superfan fantasy
would be complete

without the chance
to lip-sync for your life.

So, queens, prepare your superfan
to go head-to-head and toe-to-toe

on the main stage.

-[gasping]
-[queen] What?

Oh, my God.

So good luck and don't fuck it up.

-[Gigi] No, ma'am.
-[Sherry] Yes, bye.

[excited chatter]

You're gonna do great.

My whole life has been
leading up to this moment.

Oh, my God.

Are you excited?

I am, I'm really nervous and, like...

-[Jaida] Don't-- Don't like--
-...I'm getting a bit weird.

Can you see when the lights are really
going, can you see where you're going?

You don't feel like,
bright and crazy, it's just like

when you go out there and you feel,
like, the warmth of the lights,

-and you just feel like a star.
-[giggles]

And my breasts get higher
and my waist is, like, tinier.

To slay another day.

Now, while you
and your superfan untuck backstage,

the judges and I will deliberate.

Now, just between us superfans...

[giggles]

What do you think?

Heidi Aphrodite and Honey Almighty.

Now, Honey looked fantastic.

Her makeup looked better
than Heidi's makeup.

But there was no family resemblance.

Yeah, it just,
in comparison to the other queens,

it was a touch lackluster.

When she says it, it doesn't sound as bad.

No.
[laughing]

Jackie Cox and Li'l Snackie Cox.

[giggles]

-Just felt like there was no spark.
-Mm-hmm.

[Ross] There was family resemblance there,
they had a routine they did. It was fine.

I just don't think Jackie was as good
as her fellow competitors this week.

Yeah.

Jaida Essence Hall and Jazz.

Jaida did such an incredible job.

She is going the extra mile.

[Michelle] The plastic surgery
makeup, I'm so jealous.

Mm-hmm.

It was just... breathtaking.

And the fact that she made those dresses,

I found that so impressive.

Beautiful. Loved it.

Crystal Methyd and Opal Methyd.

I didn't feel that wowed. Um...
