it seems to have eyes,
and it's on a roof.

Thailand is a country rich in
a buddhist tradition of folklore
where semi-divine demi creatures
take various shapes
and are said to possess
supernatural powers.
It is such a large part
of the thai culture
that there are
countless festivals
that take place
throughout thailand
celebrating
these powerful beings,
but you don't have to be
at a festival
or even from thailand
to witness one of these entities
in person.
In fact, for one belgian man
spending some time
taking in the views of thailand,
all he had to do was ride a bike
to the top of a mountain.
[ squawking ]

Belgium native damien mink
had been living
and working in bangkok
for three years when, in 2015,
he decided to visit
the resort city of hua hin,
about a three-hour drive south.
Mink: Oh, yeah.
My name is damien mink,
and I shot a video
about five years ago in thailand
in a city called hua hin.
Mink: Yeah, good job.
Narrator: Damien and his friend
rented bikes
in order to reach
a mountain view of the city.
Mink: There we are.
Hello, hua hin!
Once we arrived at the top
of the mountain,
we had a gopro on the helmet,
so we stopped at a viewpoint.
We admired the view,
took off the helmet,
put the helmet on the rock.
Narrator:
And then a strange sound
caught damien's attention.
[ squawking ]
it was a very strident sound,
almost like a woman
screaming for help.
[ squawking ]
narrator: What they saw next
would only deepen
the mystery of the sound
they had heard.

I was not sure what it was.
I saw something moving.
At first,
I thought it was someone,
but then I saw, like...
It didn't seem like a person.
I mean, it had the form
a little bit like a person,
but it was, like, green-colored.
Also, you couldn't see it well
because it was, like,
matching with
the color of the nature.
I didn't even notice it
until it was moving...
Meant that its camouflage reflex
was very good.
And as it sank down,
I still had a hard time
separating it
from the background.
Motion was the only reason
I was able to track it.
It's amazing this thing
was caught on video
for just those few seconds.
That thing looked bizarre.
It looked like something
out of this world.
I couldn't explain what it was.
Like, even the hands
look like...
It was like frog hands
or something.
It was... what was it?
This thing was definitely
not human, but it was alive.
Narrator: Hearts pounding, they
decided to investigate further.
Mink: We ran to see what it was,
but when we arrived there,
there was nothing.
It was gone.
Sceurman: Obviously, it looked
like it was trying to hide
from these people, you know?
It didn't really want
to be recognized.
It was going down like this,
so, you know...
And who knows what
this was doing out there?
Narrator: And although it may
have seemingly disappeared
before their eyes,
the pair were confident
that they had at least caught
some part of it on camera.
We were, like,
very excited to come back
and play the image back
and slow it down,
and when we slow it down,
and we saw that, it was like,
"oh, my god. What is that?"
and it's weird.
It has a reptilian face.
It seems to have scales.
It has this large hand,
long fingers.
We are in the
"land of the lost" right now.
Moran:
It has all the earmarks of
the cryptid known as lizard man.
The ones we have here in america
are in semitropical areas,
as well
as heavily forested areas,
so maybe that is the habitat
where it's best place
to be looking for these.
Narrator:
Despite the odd lizard-like
appearance of the cryptid,
damien still wishes he was able
to get just a little bit closer
when he had the chance.
Mink: [bleep] what's that?
Mink: You know,
it happened so quickly,
and we didn't really have, like,
a confrontation,
so I didn't feel danger.
I think it was scared
and ran away,
so I think it felt more
in danger than we did.
You don't know how fast
these things can move, so...
I mean, you'd be surprised
by reptiles.
They are not as sluggish
as they may appear.
I think they got as close
to a lizard man
as I would ever want to get.
Whatever this thing is,
I think that's close enough.
Narrator:
Close enough may be wise advice
as iguanas are known to run
as fast as 20 miles per hour.
Mcneill: Reptilian creatures
already are a little,
tiny bit monstrous to us.
We're more ready to go like,
"yeah, no,
that is a thing that I don't
want to interact with
and snuggle with
or anything like that."
narrator: Since shooting
this video five years ago,
damien has moved to hua hin,
affording him frequent visits
to this mountain vista
in his continuing search
for another
potentially supernatural
encounter.
I try to look for some clues
or for some leftover
or some skin or anything,
but I couldn't find anything.
Narrator: But perhaps all damien
really needs to do
to catch sight of one of these
lizard people again
is look at whomever happens
to be standing in front of him
at any given time.
There's this conspiracy theory
going around that
there's a race of reptilians,
of lizard-like people
across the globe,
that are infiltrating
human activity...
Politics, sports,
religion, entertainment.
So perhaps this is one of
those strange creatures.
These reptilian humanoids
can shape-shift,
so they live among us,
and you don't know
who can be a reptile or not.
There is something weird there,
and I kind of want to know more.
We'll probably never know
what it is,
so big disappointment.
I would like to know more.
There's so many
unanswered questions,
so many possibilities.
All we have is
this brief moment,
but that moment is enough
to spark our imagination
into asking,
"what was that?"

Terror in the nursery
as an evil apparition
leaves its mark on a baby.
♪♪

Narrator: New parents often
put great effort
into baby-proofing
their homes...
Locking cabinet doors,
covering sharp corners,
blocking electrical sockets,
securing bookcases.
In short, parents do everything
in their power
to protect their children
against anything
that could possibly harm them,
but there are some dangers that
even the most attentive parent
would never even think
to protect against,
like, say, an evil entity.

[ baby crying ]

We begin with what seems
like a happy story...
Heather and josh
building a family
with their adorable baby
in bucolic highland, michigan,
but then something
strange happens.
They get up one morning,
and their little baby...
1 year old... had purple
scratches on her cheek.
We all know that babies
wear little mitts
because they tend
to scratch themselves,
but she's starting to fear
that this is
more than just the baby
accidentally scratching herself
because these are much larger,
more deep scratches
than she can inflict on her own.
Narrator: Assuming the marks
were caused during the night,
they set up a camera
while the baby slept
to see what exactly
was happening.
When they reviewed the footage,
they were horrified.
♪♪
They do catch a figure
of a person
walking through the room.
Doesn't slow down.
It walks fairly quick.
But what's interesting is
the baby sits up,
and she seems to notice it.
Something catches her attention.
That was really,
really interesting.
Hayes: And if you look closely,
you can actually see the infant
rise up out of the crib and look
in the direction of this figure,
which would imply that it's
something actually in the room,
physical,
rather than an artifact
on the actual film or video.
Slaughter:
You see that the child is aware
that something's in the room
because it stands up in its cot
and kind of is looking around.
Sandalo:
Babies and toddlers tend to be
more sensitive to spirits
since they're learning so much.
They're soaking up everything,
and they see the world
differently than adults do.
So the timing is
pretty convincing.
So the apparition in the video
appeared, to me,
to be humanoid in shape.
It certainly looked about
the right height and width.
The problem with it was,
there was no definition.
There was no way to tell
exactly what it was made up of.
Moran:
It's not just a trick of light.
It's not just a flying
dust speck or something.
This is clearly something other
than that that's captured.
Narrator: That they caught
something paranormal passing
by their child was certainly
alarming to the couple,
but even more alarming
was the thought
that this entity might have been
the cause of the scratches.
Sandalo:
There's a belief that if you
have three scratches on you,
that is a sign
of a demonic entity
because three is mocking
the holy trinity,
so maybe it was a demonic entity
in that room,
or maybe it was just something
trying to scratch up the baby.
Narrator: Heather and josh
decided to research
the history of the house to see
if they could gain any insight
as to what kind of being
they were dealing with.
They were not comforted
by what they found.
Cano: A woman was found dead
at the bottom of the stairs.
Her hip was broken.
She had lain there
for several days unfound,
so an accidental death could
cause a mental state of,
maybe she didn't know
she was dead,
or a feeling of unjustness
that, "I died too soon.
I still have things to do."
and since she wasn't found,
maybe she didn't get
the proper burial,
the proper rest, whatever,
and the state of this spirit,
if earthbound,
might not be entirely healthy.
Sturges:
Would a person who's having
difficulties like that be...
You know, if they were alive,
would they take exception
to a new family in your house?
"here's a little baby.
Maybe it's my room."
who knows if that brought on
that kind of interaction
between this figure
and the child?
Slaughter: Don't feel like
scratches necessarily mean
negative attachments
or energies.
Babies tend to be
a lot more receptive
to paranormal phenomena
than adults,
and this baby notices
this ghost,
and the ghost is like,
"wow. This baby notices me.
I'm having a connection
with this infant."
imagine not having hands
or a body,
trying to pick up a baby.
They're trying so hard to
interact with something living
that their grasp
becomes too strong,
and they accidentally hurt
the flesh bodies that we have.
Narrator:
But the baby wasn't the only one
experiencing
supernatural interactions.
The child's mother soon started
hearing inexplicable screaming
and stomping around the house
late at night.
Fear could help energize it.
Fear can give it
what it needs to get stronger
and continue
terrorizing the families.
It's very hard to keep
a calm head about you,
but to give in to panic
is only giving it more fuel.
Hayes: Anytime there's
children involved,
I think it escalates the case.
In this particular instance,
the child is actually
being harmed,
and there's all kinds
of seemingly violent activity
taking place,
or at least reported, at night.
So in my particular opinion
here,
I would say that they should
probably relocate
or, at the very least,
get the child out of the home.
Sandalo:
Whatever is in their house
caused physical harm
to their baby,
so I would recommend
finding another home
because you don't want
to stick around
and see how much worse
it can get.
Maybe that was the spirit's plan
all along, you know?
"I want to get these people out,
so what do I have to do?"
narrator:
Soon after, heather and josh
started looking for
a new place to live.

The echoes of past wars
haunt a legendary battleship.

Narrator: The aircraft carrier
uss hornet
served in multiple wars
and witnessed countless battles
filled with death
and destruction.
Today, the decommissioned ship
is permanently docked
at a port
in alameda, california,
serving as a historic landmark
and museum.
But for many
who visit the hornet,
a lesson in wartime history
is not the only thing
that they encounter.

Hayes:
The darker side of the hornet
tells a story
of some 300 servicemen
that lost their lives
on the ship,
some to war, some to battle,
some to accidents,
and even more to suicides.
And when you're living
encompassed
in a giant hunk of steel,
dealing with guilt,
dealing with stress,
dealing with anxiety,
a lot of that energy gets
trapped inside of the vessel.
Narrator: The uss hornet was
also the aircraft carrier
that picked up the apollo 11
astronauts in 1969
after their historic journey
landing the first humans
on the moon.
It's been involved in
our exploration of our universe,
and I think that's amazing.
Narrator: The carnage of war
combined with this connection
to a place far beyond
the earth itself
perhaps provides a bridge
to an otherworldly experience.
After hearing of the ship's
supposed haunting,
one ghost-hunting couple
set out to explore
the uss hornet themselves
to see if there was
any truth to the rumors.
My name is keith weldon,
and I was the cameraman
on the uss hornet.
I'm carissa simpson.
I'm a paranormal investigator.
We've heard rumors
that the ship was haunted,
so we wanted to explore
and investigate
and see what types
of evidence we could gather.
Evidence began to surface
as soon as carissa
passed through the ship's
sleeping quarters.
We were on our own,
just walking around
when, boom, I felt that tingle.
I stopped in my tracks.
I'm feeling a tingling,
like, right in my arm
and then in my foot.
I'm not kidding.
I have to go this way.
Her hand was tingling,
and I think she was sort of
letting that guide her,
which is really, really smart.
As an investigator, you have
these different feelings,
and a lot of times,
somebody might get freaked out
about them and hold back,
but she was letting that take
her where she needed to be.
Often, you see investigators
having a physical reaction
to the presence of the spirits
that they're there
to investigate.
In this case, it's a sort of
a tingling sensation
that she's getting.
Some people have theorized
that that's the spirit
sort of drawing
a bit of the life force
out of the individual
that they're interacting with
or they're in close
proximity with.
Simpson: I felt the tingle
in my foot, as well.
That is when the energy
started rising in the room,
and we just stopped
and started communicating
with spirits right there.
Is there anybody here?
Narrator: At that moment,
carissa and keith heard
a rhythmic tapping.
[ tapping ]
it sounded like someone
was in the room with us,
just tapping
on the side of the bed.
They have these metal railings,
and it just sounded like someone
maybe a row over from us
just sitting there tapping.
[ tapping ]
weldon: What is
that tapping noise?
Weldon: I thought that
was pretty weird.
It wasn't like some off-distance
sound that we were hearing.
It felt like it was
right next to us.
Cano: When it comes to
paranormal investigating,
one of the old-time
tried-and-true methods
of communication
is the tap... the ghost rap,
the spirit tapping.
And on the ship
when you hear tapping...
[ tapping ]
...It brings to mind a
specific form of communication.
When we reviewed it
and we played it over
and over and over again,
and we realized,
"there's a pattern here."
[ tapping ]
"this is morse code."
if you're a ghost
with military background,
and you know morse code,
it's a very effective way
to communicate.
It would require a lot
less energy to manifest
to let the living know
that you're there.
Narrator: When carissa and keith
later reviewed
the tapping sounds
on the footage
and did a little
morse code research,
they discovered
that it was spelling out "hi,"
and then the letters "I," "t,"
which they interpreted
as an acronym
for information technicians,
the men responsible for
morse code communication
during wartime.
[ tapping ]
as they continued
through the ship,
they picked up
still more communications,
this time through their evp,
a device that picks up sounds
that are not always apparent
to the human ear.
And what they heard
was startling.
Weldon:
At this moment, my camera's
microphone captured an evp.
Though it's hard to make out,
it sounds like it says...
Sturges: They did catch
an electronic voice phenomena
with a digital recorder
that sounds like it says,
"survival is basic."
I would think this was
an appropriate string of words
because this was a warship,
and lives were lost,
and lives were taken
because of the ship.
In the heat of war, I mean,
what's the most basic instinct?
It's to survive.
♪♪
Cano: "survival is so basic."
what kind of a message is that?
Is it hopeful?
Perhaps it's a little
existential that in battle,
in wartime,
all they have is survival.
They don't know if they're gonna
make it to the next day.
They don't know what tomorrow
brings, but you know what?
Survival... that's what we do.
[ explosion ]
narrator: As keith and carissa
delved even deeper
into this labyrinth of steel,
their recorders picked up
still more apparent echoes
of times past.
We are in the engine room,
where there have been
a couple deaths.
Narrator: This time, the message
was even more intense.
- Did you hear that?
- I heard that.
Weldon: I heard that.
- Did you hear that?
- I heard that.
Weldon:
The evp that we got said,
"we're under attack."
when you think about the moment
that somebody realized
they were under attack
and the fear and, you know,
the emotion behind that,
that left an imprint, for sure.
It could very well be
a residual thing,
especially on a vessel like this
if it saw battle.
You might hear orders.
You might hear shouting.
You might hear things
that occurred during wartime.
Well, it's just energy
that's remained behind
that's playing
over and over again.
Do you know the name of the ship
that we are on right now?
"u.S. Navy." did you hear that?
That said, "u.S. Navy,"
very clearly.
It's not just random messages.
It seems to be that there's
a dialogue going on.
The spirit seems to want
to have this conversation.
Spirits just want
to have their stories told.
They either have information
to pass on
or just want to communicate...
Just a basic human need
of letting someone know
you're there, to exist.
Narrator: And at this point,
whatever was on this ship
seemed to do just that.
Weldon: Over here.
Came from up here.
Simpson: When you really allow
yourself to be uncomfortable
and to live
in the possibilities,
you know, you can get
really excited about,
you know, what we don't know
in this world [laughs]
and in other worlds.
Sturges: It's a real
perfect storm of things.
You've got some place-memory
hauntings going on.
You've got apparitional
or intelligent,
you know, communication
going back and forth,
so, you know, you got
a little bit of everything,
and there's so much history
with this ship.
Why not a little bit
of everything?
Cano: Any one thing alone
could be suspect.
It could be a coincidence.
But once you start
overlapping things,
seeing the incidence
of potential morse code...
[ tapping ]
...And evp...
...Or feeling, like,
little cold, like, shivers,
like her body was tingling...
...All these things together
might be indications
that, yeah,
the uss hornet is very haunted.

The most endearing cryptid
ever caught on camera.

many times before.
A home-security system designed
to safeguard our possessions
inadvertently captures
something inexplicable...
A moving shadow in a corner,
entities that enter and
disappear without warning,
a ball of light
or smoke-like vapor
that looks like a spirit
trying to communicate.
Any or all of these captures
can cause the hair
on the back of our collective
necks to stand at attention
and make our hearts beat
a little bit faster,
but every once in a while,
there's a capture that pushes us
beyond traditional fear
and enters a realm reserved
only for the very rarest
of paranormal experiences,
something that can only be
described as...
Kind of adorable.

I'm vivian gomez,
and I captured the creature
on my video camera
outside of my home.
Narrator: When vivian woke up
in her colorado home
on June 2nd, 2019,
she did what most of us do
first thing in the morning.
She checked her phone.
In the morning, I woke up,
and I saw a notification
from one of the cameras,
and it said there was activity.
So I looked at it,
and I saw the video
of what was in my driveway.
Narrator: What vivian saw
defied explanation.
♪♪
I showed my son, and we just
kind of looked at each other,
and he said, "what is that?"
we kept watching it
over and over.
We didn't know what it was.
I have never had any other...
Anything else come up
on my camera that was strange.
Moran:
What the heck is this thing?
Is it wearing something
on its head?
Is its head actually that shape?
We don't know.
Well, we can say it's humanlike,
in that it has a head.
It has arms and legs.
Do those body parts move
like a human does?
No, not at all.
It's unnaturally gangly.
Its joints are very
sort of rubbery.
I don't think a person
could move that way
even if they wanted to.
It seems too spindly
to be a person.
This is a real unique video.
Sceurman:
It's funny that it's doing,
like, a little jig and dance.
It's, like, happy, it's...
And it's unexplainable.
Narrator: Because
the security camera notes
the exact time
a clip is captured,
vivian was able to recall
precisely where she was
when the cryptid appeared
in her driveway.
It was only 8:59 p.M.
At that point.
It was dark, but my son and I
tend to have a routine
on Saturday evenings.
We watch tv.
We fall asleep on the couch,
and we tend to go to bed early.
So at that point,
I'm sure we were
asleep on the couch.
Sandalo: Security cameras
just have a higher chance
of recording something
really strange
because they're always on
when we're not around,
and to me, that's really freaky
just because it shows us
what's happening
when we're not looking.
Gomez: Yeah, it was kind of
unsettling when we saw it.
It looked like it had opened
my door and closed it,
and at the time,
my screen door...
The lock was broke,
so I couldn't lock it.
I believe it was trying
to get into my home.
I think that's
the scariest part.
Is it dangerous?
Is it something she should
be concerned about?
Well, it doesn't seem to be
doing any damage
to the house, the car.
It doesn't seem destructive,
so I don't think
she should be worried at all.
Narrator:
Looking for more input as to
what this creature could be,
vivian posted the video online
and got a huge response.
Though certainly unexpected
and seemingly unique,
it also carried with it
a vague sense of familiarity
for many who viewed it.
I have no idea exactly
what this is,
but it does look really similar
to dobby from "harry potter."
hayes: Oh, there are legends of
elves and brownies and nymphs
and that kind of thing
all across the globe,
so this could fall in line with
one of those strange entities.
Mcneill: The idea of
a house-elf is absolutely
a traditional construct.
J.K. Rowling used a lot of
traditional folk creatures
and folk beliefs in the writing
of "harry potter,"
and that really helped, I think,
give it that resonance
for a lot of people.
Cano: Without fairy tales
and without
the "harry potter" films,
this video may have gone
unnoticed,
but because of its association
with something
that we're all familiar with,
and especially a beloved
character like dobby,
its legend...
His introduction
into real life...
Dobby is real now.
Dobby is free!
And as with any fairy tale,
there usually is a nugget
of truth at the center.

Vivian has her own theories
about what her camera captured.
I think it was something
not from this world.
That's what I think.
Across the street
is a large empty field.
I believe it could go
in the field.
I believe it could live
in the field.
There's a lot of trees
and brush.
Her living in proximity
to this large field...
Perhaps this is a beast
of that field
or an alien that dropped in
on the other side of her house.
I don't believe this creature
came to do harm to anyone,
just by the way
it acted and danced around.
That's my gut feeling.
I feel it's friendly and seemed
like a happy little thing.
Sceurman: This is the first
paranormal clip
I've ever seen that
actually made me laugh,
and I hope if ever get visited
by something like this
in my house,
it's as funny as this was.

Angels may be real
and closer than you think.

Archangel, the angel of light,
saint michael, saint gabriel,
cherubs... the list is long
and dates back thousands
of years in the telling.
Found in judaism,
christianity, and islam,
the mythology and tales
recount angels
as positive and benevolent.
Often, the angel is thought of
as a messenger from beyond
or a watchful spirit,
but that doesn't make seeing
one of these heavenly bodies
any less startling.

Hayes: Typically,
when I think of an angel,
I think of a man or a woman,
usually, like, golden-haired,
fair-skinned,
white flowing robes, wings,
a halo, that kind of thing.
A lot of times when people claim
to have seen angels
or something angelic,
it's a stressful situation.
They're injured, they're hurt,
or they're dying or sick.
Every religion on the planet
has some form of being
that watches over us.
Whatever the name,
whatever the classification,
whatever the task or title
that we're giving it,
there's always
a watchful spirit.
It touches upon
that very basic need
we have for something greater.
And in these clips,
our belief is tested
and, for some, rewarded,
in that there's the proof.
Sandalo: Because angels are
very different
from any other
paranormal beings,
it's not something that you can
hunt for or actively seek out.
Angels are supposed to
come to you.
Narrator: And apparently,
that's exactly what happened
in October of 2016
in camden, south carolina.
Nobody will believe me
if I didn't do this live,
but I want you to look
at this cloud in the sky.
Check that out.
Cano: This video is set up
by someone who says,
"guys, you're not
gonna believe this.
I have to show it to you
because if I just told you,
you would never believe it.
Look at that."
man:
Look at this cloud in the sky.
Is that not an angel or what?
Slaughter:
When he zooms in, you see what
looks exactly like an angel,
and you see
what looks like wings.
You see a faint shape of
a head and a body
and legs that kind of,
like, taper down.
Man: I mean, you can almost,
like, see a face.
Isn't that amazing?
I'm seeing angel.
I don't know if anybody
sees anything different.
Moran: The fascinating thing
about this is that
unlike most clouds
that just morph from one shape
into another as the wind blows,
this stays as is, intact,
for a very long period of time.
So you can really study
the form of it
and see a lot of the detail.
Slaughter: 'cause maybe he is
getting messages and signs
from his, like,
spirit guides and ancestors.
It means that
you're being guided.
It means that
you're being protected.
And it's something that,
as humans,
we really yearn
to connect with that.
We want to know that,
even though we are alone,
that we're being guided
and watched over.
Cano: Now, this might not
literally be an angel.
Perhaps it's not possible
for us to see them.
But it could be a powerful
message from an angel...
Enough to say that,
"yes, I'm here.
I'm watching over you."
and that's probably how
this gentleman felt, that,
"okay. There's something
looking out for me.
I'm protected.
There is an angel
watching over me."
man: This is my angel that I saw
when I walked out of the office.

Not every angel sighting
requires an eyewitness.
Take what happened in russia
in 2013
when a security camera
caught what appeared to be
an angelic figure
hovering over a small child.

In that security footage,
there's a child
running across the screen,
and then immediately after, you
see kind of these misty lights.
Maybe it's a guardian angel
that's there.
Cano: It coalesces. It moves.
It seems to expand and manifest

where the interpretation was,
"this is angelic."

a capture of an angel on video,
I think that's what
it would look like.
It would look like a floating
starfish or something like that,
which is what this video does.

behind these angelic images

within the eye of the beholder.
Angel sightings,
as far as I understand them,
tend to be a little bit up
for interpretation.
It's supposed to be

to whoever is receiving

A mysterious entity's
stalking gaze strikes fear
in a homeowner.

Narrator: There's an old adage
about things that go bump
in the night,
which captures the fear we feel
about unknown noises
in the dark.
The line's origin is from
a traditional scottish poem
written in the early
20th century,
but it is still in use today.
It could be the nighttime
creaking of floorboards,
a bang on a pipe,
or mysterious sounds outside.
And while most things that go
bump turn out to be nothing,
there are cases when they lead
to something all too real,
like this unearthly entity
spotted on a roof.

Living in the pacific northwest,
tom collins' home bordered
a heavily wooded forest,
and in June 2016, he started
to hear strange noises
in the middle of the night.
And on one night in particular
when the noises seemed
even more intense than usual,
he decided to
do something about it.

I am actually the one
who filmed the video,
and you can hear me
in the video talking.
Collins: I mean, we hear noises
out here pretty often
but nothing like
what we just heard.
Collins:
At the time, I had been hearing
all kinds of crazy noises,
and we've been kept up late
at night, just by, you know...
'cause we didn't have
air-conditioning,
so we always had
the windows open.
So, you know, we'd be sleeping.
3:00, 4:00 in the morning,
we'd be woken up,
just by
some crazy noise outside.
It was almost
right in the middle
between animal and human.
It was too, like, guttural to
be human, but at the same time,
it sounded like a...
It sounded like a yell,
like, out of a man, so...
Narrator:
More curious than afraid,
tom decided to bring his camera
and flashlight outside
in hopes of capturing
some evidence.
Collins: I can't really describe
exactly what it sounded like,
but almost like
some kind of a screech.
We've been hearing it so long.
I just wanted to get it
on camera so bad
'cause I had been
telling my friends,
and I had been
telling family members,
but they all looked at me
like I was kind of crazy.
Narrator: Unable to find
any evidence on the ground,
tom then turned his attention
and flashlight to the roof.
Collins: [bleep] is that?

What in the [bleep]?

Cano: When he finally looks up
and sees
that there's something
on the rooftop,
it's not what you expected.
It's not what I expected.
I don't even know
what to call it.
Is it alien? Is it...
What is it?
Moran: I don't know
what I'm looking at,
other than the fact
that it seems to be a head,
it seems to have eyes,
and it's on a roof.
Collins: Hey.
Doesn't really look
like a cryptid, per se, to me.
It looks like something, like,
maybe like out of this world
or maybe one of those, like,
japanese anime characters
with the huge, big eyes.
It's crazy.
I've had a few different
experiences with,
you know,
scary things in the past,
and I've just never
really experienced
anything else like it.
Collins: What in the [bleep]?
It seems to signal
with a hand or a sleeve
and very hard to speculate
what this might be.
Collins: Hey.

Tom rushed into the house
to let his girlfriend know
what he had just witnessed.
- Should I go out there?
- No. No, please.
Collins: But if there's
something on the roof,
I need... like, I got to
figure out what it is.
Like, we can't just
leave it up there.
It could climb in the window
in the middle of the night
and kill us.
Cano: You might think,
"all right. This is a bad idea.
You don't want to go out
onto a ledge.
You don't want to go
on a rooftop.
That's dangerous."
but if he didn't do that,
all of us at home
would look at this video and go,
"oh, you should've
gone on the roof.
You should've gone out
and investigated."
so damned if you do,
damned if you don't.
Collins: Okay. Here we go.
Narrator:
Against his girlfriend's wishes,
tom ventured onto the roof
to confront whatever it was
that he saw.
I don't like being up there
to clean my gutters,
let alone chase
some unknown entity
that you don't know what
its physical prowess might be.

Collins:
Where the hell did it go?
♪♪
[bleep]
narrator: Startled, tom stumbled
and dropped his camera
off the roof
and then immediately
went back inside.
Despite losing track
of whatever was out there,
the evidence he had collected
was fortunately not destroyed.
Collins: The camera itself
I had to take in to get fixed,
but luckily,
the sd card was fine,
so I was able to get
the video from it.
Cano: Whatever it is
doesn't seem to move.
It doesn't flee.
It doesn't react to him
in any way
other than maybe curiosity.
Slaughter:
I'm sure, just like we find
cryptids to be so interesting,
I'm sure they find us
to be so interesting
or just completely terrified
of us or plotting our deaths
because we've been just taking
over all of their habitat.
Narrator: And maybe that's
the root of the problem.
Collins: You know,
it was seeking something.
I really don't know
what it was...
You know, food, water,
shelter or what,
but it definitely seemed like
it was looking for something.
Narrator:
In fact, a few weeks prior
to shooting this video,
tom had left his garage door up,
and boxes of stored dry food
had been ripped open.
Collins: Something got in here
and tore a big hole
in the side
of some of those boxes.
I think, you know, that if it
was in fact looking for food,
that it found whatever
it was looking for,
and that would be all the reason
for it to keep coming back,
so it's possible, yeah.
Cano: Probably the last thing
he expected to see
was something alien,
and by alien I mean something
that he wasn't expecting.
It wasn't a bird.
It wasn't a squirrel
or a raccoon.
It wasn't even a prowler.
It wasn't somebody
walking around on his roof.
It was a thing.
Collins: [bleep] is that?
Cano: What that thing was
is unknown at this point.
This one video actually
defies all categories,
so I don't know what it is.
If they still have this thing
going around their house,
they better
do something about it.

what they did.

At the end of that summer,
we actually sold the house,
and I don't know if the person
who moved into the house
is having the same problem,
but we got away from it.

Thailand is a country rich in
a buddhist tradition of folklore
where semi-divine demi creatures
take various shapes
and are said to possess
supernatural powers.
It is such a large part
of the thai culture
that there are

that take place

these powerful beings,
but you don't have to be
at a festival
or even from thailand
to witness one of these entities
in person.
In fact, for one belgian man
spending some time
taking in the views of thailand,
all he had to do was ride a bike
to the top of a mountain.

Belgium native damien mink
had been living
and working in bangkok
for three years when, in 2015,
he decided to visit
the resort city of hua hin,
about a three-hour drive south.
Mink: Oh, yeah.
My name is damien mink,
and I shot a video
about five years ago in thailand
in a city called hua hin.
Mink: Yeah, good job.
Narrator: Damien and his friend
rented bikes
in order to reach
a mountain view of the city.
Mink: There we are.
Hello, hua hin!
Once we arrived at the top
of the mountain,
we had a gopro on the helmet,
so we stopped at a viewpoint.
We admired the view,
took off the helmet,
put the helmet on the rock.
Narrator:
And then a strange sound
caught damien's attention.
[ squawking ]
it was a very strident sound,
almost like a woman
screaming for help.
[ squawking ]
narrator: What they saw next
would only deepen
the mystery of the sound
they had heard.

I was not sure what it was.
I saw something moving.
At first,
I thought it was someone,
but then I saw, like...
It didn't seem like a person.
I mean, it had the form
a little bit like a person,
but it was, like, green-colored.
Also, you couldn't see it well
because it was, like,
matching with
the color of the nature.
I didn't even notice it
until it was moving...
Meant that its camouflage reflex
was very good.
And as it sank down,
I still had a hard time
separating it
from the background.
Motion was the only reason
I was able to track it.
It's amazing this thing
was caught on video
for just those few seconds.
That thing looked bizarre.
It looked like something
out of this world.
I couldn't explain what it was.
Like, even the hands
look like...
It was like frog hands
or something.
It was... what was it?
This thing was definitely
not human, but it was alive.
Narrator: Hearts pounding, they
decided to investigate further.
Mink: We ran to see what it was,
but when we arrived there,
there was nothing.
It was gone.
Sceurman: Obviously, it looked
like it was trying to hide
from these people, you know?
It didn't really want
to be recognized.
It was going down like this,
so, you know...
And who knows what
this was doing out there?
Narrator: And although it may
have seemingly disappeared
before their eyes,
the pair were confident
that they had at least caught
some part of it on camera.
We were, like,
very excited to come back
and play the image back
and slow it down,
and when we slow it down,
and we saw that, it was like,
"oh, my god. What is that?"
and it's weird.
It has a reptilian face.
It seems to have scales.
It has this large hand,
long fingers.
We are in the
"land of the lost" right now.
Moran:
It has all the earmarks of
the cryptid known as lizard man.
The ones we have here in america
are in semitropical areas,
as well
as heavily forested areas,
so maybe that is the habitat
where it's best place
to be looking for these.
Narrator:
Despite the odd lizard-like
appearance of the cryptid,
damien still wishes he was able
to get just a little bit closer
when he had the chance.
Mink: [bleep] what's that?
Mink: You know,
it happened so quickly,
and we didn't really have, like,
a confrontation,
so I didn't feel danger.
I think it was scared
and ran away,
so I think it felt more
in danger than we did.
You don't know how fast
these things can move, so...
I mean, you'd be surprised
by reptiles.
They are not as sluggish
as they may appear.
I think they got as close
to a lizard man
as I would ever want to get.
Whatever this thing is,
I think that's close enough.

Close enough may be wise advice
as iguanas are known to run
as fast as 20 miles per hour.
Mcneill: Reptilian creatures
already are a little,
tiny bit monstrous to us.
We're more ready to go like,
"yeah, no,
that is a thing that I don't
want to interact with
and snuggle with
or anything like that."
narrator: Since shooting
this video five years ago,
damien has moved to hua hin,
affording him frequent visits
to this mountain vista
in his continuing search
for another
potentially supernatural
encounter.
I try to look for some clues
or for some leftover
or some skin or anything,
but I couldn't find anything.
Narrator: But perhaps all damien
really needs to do
to catch sight of one of these
lizard people again
is look at whomever happens
to be standing in front of him
at any given time.
There's this conspiracy theory
going around that
there's a race of reptilians,
of lizard-like people
across the globe,
that are infiltrating
human activity...
Politics, sports,
religion, entertainment.
So perhaps this is one of
those strange creatures.
These reptilian humanoids
can shape-shift,
so they live among us,
and you don't know
who can be a reptile or not.
There is something weird there,
and I kind of want to know more.
We'll probably never know
what it is,
so big disappointment.
I would like to know more.
There's so many
unanswered questions,
so many possibilities.
All we have is
this brief moment,
but that moment is enough
to spark our imagination
into asking,
"what was that?"

as an evil apparition

In short, parents do everything
in their power
to protect their children
against anything
that could possibly harm them,
but there are some dangers that

would never even think
to protect against,
like, say, an evil entity.

We begin with what seems
like a happy story...
Heather and josh
building a family
with their adorable baby
in bucolic highland, michigan,
but then something
strange happens.
They get up one morning,
and their little baby...
1 year old... had purple
scratches on her cheek.
We all know that babies
wear little mitts
because they tend
to scratch themselves,
but she's starting to fear
that this is
more than just the baby
accidentally scratching herself
because these are much larger,
more deep scratches
than she can inflict on her own.
Narrator: Assuming the marks
were caused during the night,
they set up a camera
while the baby slept
to see what exactly
was happening.
When they reviewed the footage,
they were horrified.
♪♪
They do catch a figure
of a person
walking through the room.
Doesn't slow down.
It walks fairly quick.
But what's interesting is
the baby sits up,
and she seems to notice it.
Something catches her attention.
That was really,
really interesting.
Hayes: And if you look closely,
you can actually see the infant
rise up out of the crib and look
in the direction of this figure,
which would imply that it's
something actually in the room,
physical,
rather than an artifact
on the actual film or video.
Slaughter:
You see that the child is aware
that something's in the room
because it stands up in its cot
and kind of is looking around.
Sandalo:
Babies and toddlers tend to be
more sensitive to spirits
since they're learning so much.
They're soaking up everything,
and they see the world
differently than adults do.
So the timing is
pretty convincing.
So the apparition in the video
appeared, to me,
to be humanoid in shape.
It certainly looked about
the right height and width.
The problem with it was,
there was no definition.
There was no way to tell
exactly what it was made up of.
Moran:
It's not just a trick of light.
It's not just a flying
dust speck or something.
This is clearly something other
than that that's captured.
Narrator: That they caught
something paranormal passing
by their child was certainly
alarming to the couple,
but even more alarming
was the thought
that this entity might have been
the cause of the scratches.
Sandalo:
There's a belief that if you
have three scratches on you,
that is a sign
of a demonic entity
because three is mocking
the holy trinity,
so maybe it was a demonic entity
in that room,
or maybe it was just something
trying to scratch up the baby.
Narrator: Heather and josh
decided to research
the history of the house to see
if they could gain any insight
as to what kind of being
they were dealing with.
They were not comforted
by what they found.
Cano: A woman was found dead
at the bottom of the stairs.
Her hip was broken.
She had lain there
for several days unfound,
so an accidental death could
cause a mental state of,
maybe she didn't know
she was dead,
or a feeling of unjustness
that, "I died too soon.
I still have things to do."
and since she wasn't found,
maybe she didn't get
the proper burial,
the proper rest, whatever,
and the state of this spirit,
if earthbound,
might not be entirely healthy.
Sturges:
Would a person who's having
difficulties like that be...
You know, if they were alive,
would they take exception
to a new family in your house?
"here's a little baby.
Maybe it's my room."
who knows if that brought on
that kind of interaction
between this figure
and the child?
Slaughter: Don't feel like
scratches necessarily mean
negative attachments
or energies.
Babies tend to be
a lot more receptive
to paranormal phenomena
than adults,
and this baby notices
this ghost,
and the ghost is like,
"wow. This baby notices me.
I'm having a connection
with this infant."
imagine not having hands
or a body,
trying to pick up a baby.
They're trying so hard to
interact with something living
that their grasp
becomes too strong,
and they accidentally hurt
the flesh bodies that we have.
Narrator:
But the baby wasn't the only one
experiencing
supernatural interactions.
The child's mother soon started
hearing inexplicable screaming
and stomping around the house
late at night.
Fear could help energize it.
Fear can give it
what it needs to get stronger
and continue
terrorizing the families.
It's very hard to keep
a calm head about you,
but to give in to panic
is only giving it more fuel.
Hayes: Anytime there's
children involved,
I think it escalates the case.
In this particular instance,
the child is actually
being harmed,
and there's all kinds
of seemingly violent activity
taking place,
or at least reported, at night.
So in my particular opinion
here,
I would say that they should
probably relocate
or, at the very least,
get the child out of the home.

Whatever is in their house
caused physical harm
to their baby,
so I would recommend
finding another home
because you don't want
to stick around
and see how much worse
it can get.
Maybe that was the spirit's plan
all along, you know?

uss hornet
served in multiple wars
and witnessed countless battles
filled with death
and destruction.
Today, the decommissioned ship
is permanently docked
at a port
in alameda, california,
serving as a historic landmark
and museum.
But for many
who visit the hornet,
a lesson in wartime history
is not the only thing
that they encounter.

The darker side of the hornet
tells a story
of some 300 servicemen
that lost their lives
on the ship,
some to war, some to battle,
some to accidents,
and even more to suicides.

encompassed
in a giant hunk of steel,

a lot of that energy gets
trapped inside of the vessel.

supposed haunting,
one ghost-hunting couple
set out to explore
the uss hornet themselves
to see if there was
any truth to the rumors.

on the uss hornet.
I'm carissa simpson.
I'm a paranormal investigator.
We've heard rumors
that the ship was haunted,
so we wanted to explore
and investigate
and see what types
of evidence we could gather.
Evidence began to surface
as soon as carissa
passed through the ship's
sleeping quarters.
We were on our own,
just walking around
when, boom, I felt that tingle.
I stopped in my tracks.
I'm feeling a tingling,
like, right in my arm
and then in my foot.
I'm not kidding.
I have to go this way.
Her hand was tingling,
and I think she was sort of
letting that guide her,
which is really, really smart.
As an investigator, you have
these different feelings,
and a lot of times,
somebody might get freaked out
about them and hold back,
but she was letting that take
her where she needed to be.
Often, you see investigators
having a physical reaction
to the presence of the spirits
that they're there
to investigate.
In this case, it's a sort of
a tingling sensation
that she's getting.
Some people have theorized
that that's the spirit
sort of drawing
a bit of the life force
out of the individual
that they're interacting with
or they're in close
proximity with.
Simpson: I felt the tingle
in my foot, as well.
That is when the energy
started rising in the room,
and we just stopped
and started communicating
with spirits right there.
Is there anybody here?
Narrator: At that moment,
carissa and keith heard
a rhythmic tapping.

it sounded like someone
was in the room with us,
just tapping
on the side of the bed.
They have these metal railings,
and it just sounded like someone
maybe a row over from us
just sitting there tapping.

that tapping noise?
Weldon: I thought that
was pretty weird.
It wasn't like some off-distance
sound that we were hearing.
It felt like it was
right next to us.
Cano: When it comes to
paranormal investigating,
one of the old-time
tried-and-true methods
of communication
is the tap... the ghost rap,
the spirit tapping.
And on the ship
when you hear tapping...
[ tapping ]
...It brings to mind a
specific form of communication.
When we reviewed it
and we played it over
and over and over again,
and we realized,
"there's a pattern here."
[ tapping ]
"this is morse code."
if you're a ghost
with military background,
and you know morse code,
it's a very effective way
to communicate.
It would require a lot
less energy to manifest
to let the living know
that you're there.
Narrator: When carissa and keith
later reviewed
the tapping sounds
on the footage
and did a little
morse code research,
they discovered
that it was spelling out "hi,"
and then the letters "I," "t,"
which they interpreted
as an acronym
for information technicians,
the men responsible for
morse code communication
during wartime.

as they continued
through the ship,
they picked up
still more communications,
this time through their evp,
a device that picks up sounds
that are not always apparent
to the human ear.
And what they heard
was startling.

At this moment, my camera's
microphone captured an evp.
Though it's hard to make out,
it sounds like it says...
Sturges: They did catch
an electronic voice phenomena
with a digital recorder
that sounds like it says,
"survival is basic."
I would think this was
an appropriate string of words
because this was a warship,
and lives were lost,
and lives were taken
because of the ship.
In the heat of war, I mean,
what's the most basic instinct?
It's to survive.

Cano: "survival is so basic."
what kind of a message is that?
Is it hopeful?
Perhaps it's a little
existential that in battle,
in wartime,
all they have is survival.
They don't know if they're gonna
make it to the next day.
They don't know what tomorrow
brings, but you know what?
Survival... that's what we do.

delved even deeper
into this labyrinth of steel,
their recorders picked up
still more apparent echoes
of times past.
We are in the engine room,
where there have been
a couple deaths.

The evp that we got said,
"we're under attack."
when you think about the moment
that somebody realized
they were under attack
and the fear and, you know,
the emotion behind that,
that left an imprint, for sure.
It could very well be
a residual thing,
especially on a vessel like this
if it saw battle.
You might hear orders.
You might hear shouting.
You might hear things
that occurred during wartime.
Well, it's just energy
that's remained behind
that's playing
over and over again.
Do you know the name of the ship
that we are on right now?
"u.S. Navy." did you hear that?
That said, "u.S. Navy,"
very clearly.
It's not just random messages.
It seems to be that there's
a dialogue going on.
The spirit seems to want
to have this conversation.
Spirits just want
to have their stories told.
They either have information
to pass on
or just want to communicate...
Just a basic human need
of letting someone know
you're there, to exist.

whatever was on this ship
seemed to do just that.

and to live

kind of looked at each other,
and he said, "what is that?"
we kept watching it
over and over.
We didn't know what it was.
I have never had any other...
Anything else come up
on my camera that was strange.
Moran:
What the heck is this thing?
Is it wearing something
on its head?
Is its head actually that shape?
We don't know.
Well, we can say it's humanlike,
in that it has a head.
It has arms and legs.
Do those body parts move
like a human does?
No, not at all.
It's unnaturally gangly.
Its joints are very
sort of rubbery.
I don't think a person
could move that way
even if they wanted to.
It seems too spindly
to be a person.
This is a real unique video.
Sceurman:
It's funny that it's doing,
like, a little jig and dance.
It's, like, happy, it's...
And it's unexplainable.
Narrator: Because
the security camera notes
the exact time
a clip is captured,
vivian was able to recall
precisely where she was
when the cryptid appeared
in her driveway.
It was only 8:59 p.M.
At that point.
It was dark, but my son and I
tend to have a routine
on Saturday evenings.
We watch tv.
We fall asleep on the couch,
and we tend to go to bed early.
So at that point,
I'm sure we were
asleep on the couch.
Sandalo: Security cameras
just have a higher chance
of recording something
really strange
because they're always on
when we're not around,
and to me, that's really freaky
just because it shows us
what's happening
when we're not looking.
Gomez: Yeah, it was kind of
unsettling when we saw it.
It looked like it had opened
my door and closed it,
and at the time,
my screen door...
The lock was broke,
so I couldn't lock it.
I believe it was trying
to get into my home.
I think that's
the scariest part.
Is it dangerous?
Is it something she should
be concerned about?
Well, it doesn't seem to be
doing any damage
to the house, the car.
It doesn't seem destructive,
so I don't think
she should be worried at all.
Narrator:
Looking for more input as to
what this creature could be,
vivian posted the video online
and got a huge response.
Though certainly unexpected
and seemingly unique,
it also carried with it
a vague sense of familiarity
for many who viewed it.
I have no idea exactly
what this is,
but it does look really similar
to dobby from "harry potter."
hayes: Oh, there are legends of
elves and brownies and nymphs
and that kind of thing
all across the globe,
so this could fall in line with
one of those strange entities.
Mcneill: The idea of
a house-elf is absolutely
a traditional construct.
J.K. Rowling used a lot of
traditional folk creatures
and folk beliefs in the writing
of "harry potter,"
and that really helped, I think,
give it that resonance
for a lot of people.
Cano: Without fairy tales
and without
the "harry potter" films,
this video may have gone
unnoticed,
but because of its association
with something
that we're all familiar with,
and especially a beloved
character like dobby,
its legend...
His introduction
into real life...
Dobby is real now.
Dobby is free!
And as with any fairy tale,
there usually is a nugget
of truth at the center.

Vivian has her own theories
about what her camera captured.
I think it was something
not from this world.
That's what I think.
Across the street
is a large empty field.
I believe it could go
in the field.
I believe it could live
in the field.
There's a lot of trees
and brush.
Her living in proximity
to this large field...
Perhaps this is a beast
of that field
or an alien that dropped in
on the other side of her house.
I don't believe this creature
came to do harm to anyone,
just by the way
it acted and danced around.
That's my gut feeling.
I feel it's friendly and seemed
like a happy little thing.
Sceurman: This is the first
paranormal clip
I've ever seen that
actually made me laugh,
and I hope if ever get visited
by something like this
in my house,
it's as funny as this was.

Angels may be real
and closer than you think.

Archangel, the angel of light,
saint michael, saint gabriel,
cherubs... the list is long
and dates back thousands
of years in the telling.
Found in judaism,
christianity, and islam,
the mythology and tales
recount angels
as positive and benevolent.
Often, the angel is thought of
as a messenger from beyond
or a watchful spirit,
but that doesn't make seeing
one of these heavenly bodies
any less startling.

Hayes: Typically,
when I think of an angel,
I think of a man or a woman,
usually, like, golden-haired,
fair-skinned,
white flowing robes, wings,
a halo, that kind of thing.
A lot of times when people claim
to have seen angels
or something angelic,
it's a stressful situation.
They're injured, they're hurt,
or they're dying or sick.
Every religion on the planet
has some form of being
that watches over us.
Whatever the name,
whatever the classification,
whatever the task or title
that we're giving it,
there's always
a watchful spirit.
It touches upon
that very basic need
we have for something greater.
And in these clips,
our belief is tested
and, for some, rewarded,
in that there's the proof.
Sandalo: Because angels are
very different
from any other
paranormal beings,
it's not something that you can
hunt for or actively seek out.
Angels are supposed to
come to you.
Narrator: And apparently,
that's exactly what happened
in October of 2016
in camden, south carolina.
Nobody will believe me
if I didn't do this live,
but I want you to look
at this cloud in the sky.
Check that out.
Cano: This video is set up
by someone who says,
"guys, you're not
gonna believe this.
I have to show it to you
because if I just told you,
you would never believe it.
Look at that."
man:
Look at this cloud in the sky.
Is that not an angel or what?
Slaughter:
When he zooms in, you see what
looks exactly like an angel,
and you see
what looks like wings.
You see a faint shape of
a head and a body
and legs that kind of,
like, taper down.
Man: I mean, you can almost,
like, see a face.
Isn't that amazing?
I'm seeing angel.
I don't know if anybody
sees anything different.
Moran: The fascinating thing
about this is that
unlike most clouds
that just morph from one shape
into another as the wind blows,
this stays as is, intact,
for a very long period of time.
So you can really study
the form of it
and see a lot of the detail.
Slaughter: 'cause maybe he is
getting messages and signs
from his, like,
spirit guides and ancestors.
It means that
you're being guided.
It means that
you're being protected.
And it's something that,
as humans,
we really yearn
to connect with that.
We want to know that,
even though we are alone,
that we're being guided
and watched over.
Cano: Now, this might not
literally be an angel.
Perhaps it's not possible
for us to see them.
But it could be a powerful
message from an angel...
Enough to say that,
"yes, I'm here.
I'm watching over you."
and that's probably how
this gentleman felt, that,
"okay. There's something
looking out for me.
I'm protected.
There is an angel
watching over me."
man: This is my angel that I saw
when I walked out of the office.

Not every angel sighting
requires an eyewitness.
Take what happened in russia
in 2013
when a security camera
caught what appeared to be
an angelic figure
hovering over a small child.

In that security footage,
there's a child
running across the screen,
and then immediately after, you
see kind of these misty lights.
Maybe it's a guardian angel
that's there.
Cano: It coalesces. It moves.
It seems to expand and manifest
and open up to a way
where the interpretation was,
"this is angelic."
sceurman: Now, if there was ever
a capture of an angel on video,
I think that's what
it would look like.
It would look like a floating
starfish or something like that,
which is what this video does.
Narrator: The real meaning
behind these angelic images
may just reside
within the eye of the beholder.
Angel sightings,
as far as I understand them,
tend to be a little bit up
for interpretation.
It's supposed to be
kind of personal
to whoever is receiving
the message.
Cano:
Of course, you're going to ask,
"well, what's the message?
Why are they coming?
Are they here to protect us?
Are they here
to deliver a message?"

Why would an angel appear?
It probably appears
when you least expect it
and probably when
you would need it most.

A mysterious entity's
stalking gaze strikes fear
in a homeowner.
Collins: [bleep]

Narrator: There's an old adage
about things that go bump
in the night,
which captures the fear we feel
about unknown noises
in the dark.
The line's origin is from
a traditional scottish poem
written in the early
20th century,
but it is still in use today.
It could be the nighttime
creaking of floorboards,
a bang on a pipe,
or mysterious sounds outside.
And while most things that go
bump turn out to be nothing,
there are cases when they lead
to something all too real,
like this unearthly entity
spotted on a roof.

Living in the pacific northwest,
tom collins' home bordered
a heavily wooded forest,
and in June 2016, he started
to hear strange noises
in the middle of the night.
And on one night in particular
when the noises seemed
even more intense than usual,
he decided to
do something about it.
Hi. I'm tom collins.
I am actually the one
who filmed the video,
and you can hear me
in the video talking.
Collins: I mean, we hear noises
out here pretty often
but nothing like
what we just heard.
Collins:
At the time, I had been hearing
all kinds of crazy noises,
and we've been kept up late
at night, just by, you know...
'cause we didn't have
air-conditioning,
so we always had
the windows open.
So, you know, we'd be sleeping.
3:00, 4:00 in the morning,
we'd be woken up,
just by
some crazy noise outside.
It was almost
right in the middle
between animal and human.
It was too, like, guttural to
be human, but at the same time,
it sounded like a...
It sounded like a yell,
like, out of a man, so...
Narrator:
More curious than afraid,
tom decided to bring his camera
and flashlight outside
in hopes of capturing
some evidence.
Collins: I can't really describe
exactly what it sounded like,
but almost like
some kind of a screech.
We've been hearing it so long.
I just wanted to get it
on camera so bad
'cause I had been
telling my friends,
and I had been
telling family members,
but they all looked at me
like I was kind of crazy.
Narrator: Unable to find
any evidence on the ground,
tom then turned his attention
and flashlight to the roof.
Collins: [bleep] is that?

What in the [bleep]?
♪♪
Cano: When he finally looks up
and sees
that there's something
on the rooftop,
it's not what you expected.
It's not what I expected.
I don't even know
what to call it.
Is it alien? Is it...
What is it?
Moran: I don't know
what I'm looking at,
other than the fact
that it seems to be a head,
it seems to have eyes,
and it's on a roof.
Collins: Hey.
Doesn't really look
like a cryptid, per se, to me.
It looks like something, like,
maybe like out of this world
or maybe one of those, like,
japanese anime characters
with the huge, big eyes.
It's crazy.
I've had a few different
experiences with,
you know,
scary things in the past,
and I've just never
really experienced
anything else like it.
Collins: What in the [bleep]?
It seems to signal
with a hand or a sleeve
and very hard to speculate
what this might be.
Collins: Hey.

What the [bleep]?
Narrator:
Tom rushed into the house
to let his girlfriend know
what he had just witnessed.
- Should I go out there?
- No. No, please.
Collins: But if there's
something on the roof,
I need... like, I got to
figure out what it is.
Like, we can't just
leave it up there.
It could climb in the window
in the middle of the night
and kill us.
Cano: You might think,
"all right. This is a bad idea.
You don't want to go out
onto a ledge.
You don't want to go
on a rooftop.
That's dangerous."
but if he didn't do that,
all of us at home
would look at this video and go,
"oh, you should've
gone on the roof.
You should've gone out
and investigated."
so damned if you do,
damned if you don't.
Collins: Okay. Here we go.
Narrator:
Against his girlfriend's wishes,
tom ventured onto the roof
to confront whatever it was
that he saw.
I don't like being up there
to clean my gutters,
let alone chase
some unknown entity
that you don't know what
its physical prowess might be.

Collins:
Where the hell did it go?
♪♪
[bleep]
narrator: Startled, tom stumbled
and dropped his camera
off the roof
and then immediately
went back inside.
Despite losing track
of whatever was out there,
the evidence he had collected
was fortunately not destroyed.
Collins: The camera itself
I had to take in to get fixed,
but luckily,
the sd card was fine,
so I was able to get
the video from it.
Cano: Whatever it is
doesn't seem to move.
It doesn't flee.
It doesn't react to him
in any way
other than maybe curiosity.
Slaughter:
I'm sure, just like we find
cryptids to be so interesting,
I'm sure they find us
to be so interesting
or just completely terrified
of us or plotting our deaths
because we've been just taking
over all of their habitat.
Narrator: And maybe that's
the root of the problem.
Collins: You know,
it was seeking something.
I really don't know
what it was...
You know, food, water,
shelter or what,
but it definitely seemed like
it was looking for something.
Narrator:
In fact, a few weeks prior
to shooting this video,
tom had left his garage door up,
and boxes of stored dry food
had been ripped open.
Collins: Something got in here
and tore a big hole
in the side
of some of those boxes.
I think, you know, that if it
was in fact looking for food,
that it found whatever
it was looking for,
and that would be all the reason
for it to keep coming back,
so it's possible, yeah.
Cano: Probably the last thing
he expected to see
was something alien,
and by alien I mean something
that he wasn't expecting.
It wasn't a bird.
It wasn't a squirrel
or a raccoon.
It wasn't even a prowler.
It wasn't somebody
walking around on his roof.
It was a thing.
Collins: [bleep] is that?
Cano: What that thing was
is unknown at this point.
This one video actually
defies all categories,
so I don't know what it is.
If they still have this thing
going around their house,
they better
do something about it.
Narrator: And that's exactly
what they did.
Collins:
At the end of that summer,
we actually sold the house,
and I don't know if the person
who moved into the house
is having the same problem,
but we got away from it.
Narrator: Since moving,
tom's nights have been
considerably more peaceful.
Collins: [bleep]
