Naked and Afraid XL (2015–…): Season 7, Episode 1 - That All You Got, Louisiana? - full transcript

This is the worst place
to survive on the planet.

There's danger everywhere.

Sixty days is a long time.

The best of the best
might not be able

to make it out of here.

Bring on the swamp

yeah!

In six seasons,

they've conquered environments.

Goodness!

We're eating!

Where others crumble.

Africa!

Yeah!

Woo!

Now, 12 legends of
the 40-day challenge return.

This is what I live for!

To test themselves
like never before.

- We are here to go big...
- Yeah!

Or go hungry.

Jump on him, jump on him!

In the deadly
swamps of louisiana.

The mosquitoes
are hell on earth.

There's a gator.

For an epic 60 days.

Oh my god.

This will be
the hardest challenge.

Snake right here,
snake right here.

To make it,
they must raise the bar

of skill and innovation.

Coming up with new ideas,
new ways to get food.

Oh we've got it,
we've got it, we've got it!

Yeah!

Whoo!

And reach new
limits of human endurance.

Is not friendly.

This is the perfect nightmare.

As seasons change...

It is frigid.

And dangers mount.

It's coming.

It's flooded.

This is torture.

I feel like
it's gonna get worse.

Son of a bitch swamp!

I'm a hard-headed

for the right...

- Yeah!
- It's right here!

...To be called legends.

Whoo!

You're my bitch now.

Come on, louisiana!
Is that all you've got?

Spread over 100
square miles of the festering

atchafalaya swampland,

the veteran survivalists
begin the 60-day challenge

in four groups
of three to the north.

The team of matt,
riley and ryan,

bring battle-tested skills
into the swamp's dense maze

of gator-filled waterways.

- We're out here y'all.
- We are very out here.

This is a proper challenge.
This place is gonna be tough.

You know, for me, I've always
said that my skill set

can survive
anywhere on the planet.

Jungle warrior
just struck again.

I'm dangerous when I'm hungry.

But to come out
here in the bayou

and try to survive butt naked
for 60 days is crazy.

This is not gonna feel
nice on a naked body.

No.

You're at the end
of your gas tank at 40.

So you still got to get
by on another 20 days

and that's something
I've never dealt with

and it is going to be intense.

But every single adventure
I've ever done I've completed.

I will literally do whatever
it takes to support my team.

I've done it before,
I'll do it again.

There's a nice, a nice big
gator laying up there.

Oh my god!

Big old gator
laying up there, like fat.

We just got to stay
off the menu.

Sleeping out here naked for
60 nights is just insane.

- We can't make one mistake.
- No.

- I think we're here.
- I think we're here.

Let's do it. Let's get naked.

I guess so. Goodbye clothes!

All right.

- Let's do this.
- Onward!

It's gonna get pretty snaky.

Fifteen miles to the south,

steven, lacey and jeff

enter a low-lying flood zone,
where recent hurricanes

have spawned legions
of blood-sucking mosquitoes.

Hey, right there.

- Oh my god!
- Snack time.

You jump right in there
and you just grab it.

You better believe
I'll be nervous before

I put my ball sack
on the back of his neck.

Clenches its mouth closed and
I'm gonna be a little nervous.

I am the only one here
that's ever done

a 60-day challenge before.

Sixty days, right here.

This is
what I live for right now!

And what I can say is 60 days

is exponentially
more difficult than 40.

It's gonna be brutally cold.
Humid.

- Wet.
- Yeah.

- And the mosquitoes.
- Constantly.

Absolutely. Yep.

I've always kind of
considered myself legendary.

Got dinner! Right here!

Oh my god!

Hello!

Kind of a big deal.
I keep telling you guys.

And I love when people tell me
that I can't do something.

Because 60 days in the swamp
is almost an impossible task.

You're gonna have some
incredibly talented people...

- Absolutely.
- ...Not make it out of here.

And that should put
the fear of god in anybody.

Absolutely.

I've actually never
felt more prepared

for any challenge
than I do for this one.

Yeah,
so I have had several taps.

You left with the firestarter.

On accident this morning.

That's irrelevant.

In africa, I thought I was

the only opinion that mattered

and I didn't care about anyone
else or what they thought

and I'm like, just suck it,
if you don't like it, suck it.

I have to prove that I am
a legendary survivalist.

Finish or die. That's really
my only two options.

I really want us
to all cross this finish line

together, you know?

I have doubts about lacey,
because steven and I,

we know
how to do this challenge.

Sixty days. Ready to get naked?

Oh, yeah.

And on a 60-day
challenge, I'm telling you
right now,

she must pull her weight.

- Oh, if you like, bellies?
- Yeah.

Oh yeah.

Look at you.

And yes, I have tried
to put on as much fat

and muscle as I possibly can.

- Here we go.
- Ready to do this.

Insertion day, baby.

Six miles to the west,

the trio of max, amber and gary

navigate a dank tangle
of murky tributaries,

crawling with copperheads
and water moccasins,

the most aggressive and deadly
snakes in north america.

Look how thick this is!

Yeah!

I think the greatest
fear is not, you know,

we'll see what's in
the water and then we're going

to be walking across it.

Kind of the unknown.

What scares me the most
is the water moccasins.

They taste good,
but they are very deadly.

If we get bit, we're out.

You know, you go
into these challenges

and you put it all on the line,

because everyone here
is a proven vet.

We all have
the mental fortitude.

We chose the path
so we can't complain

about the path we're on.

Right on.

This swamp can eat
us alive, though

that's true. And I'm gonna eat
the swamp to stay alive.

I see opportunity where
other people see disgust.

South africa,
I scavenged a dead...

With maggots all over it.
Wish not, want not.

I ate my way through
whatever I get my hands

on to make it, and I made it.

You know,
that's the thing about it.

Even finding a dead fish
out here's a resource.

And this one is going
to be a true test.

Looks like this is it,
right here.

There's danger everywhere.

And that's what makes
this one of the scariest
challenges

I've ever attempted.

But the truth is, you
always have to support

your brothers and sisters.

And that's what matters,
accomplishing the mission

and getting it done.

Oh, I just stepped on
fire ants, damn it.

Oh, yeah. Be vigilant.

Eight miles north,

the final team of e.J.,
sarah and suzanne

arrived deep in the dark heart
of the atchafalaya.

Yeah!

We're here to swamp, girl!

Yeah!

E.J, he's like the
granddaddy survivalist.

We've got fire!

Yeah! That's dinner,
there's extraction.

And he has conquered, in my
mind, the hardest challenges.

I trained ranger students
for three years in the swamp.

People are always talking
about the everglades.

That's a petting zoo
compared to this place.

I put this place on the same
danger level as the amazon.

I have a wealth of experience.

And if you don't have
the skills to be out here,

the swamp will smell you out.

Going to get cold.

Yeah, that's a big concern
of mine is the cold.

That's the swamp suck,
we call it.

It is, it'll get you.

That creeps in,
that cold, that wet.

Bone-chilling.

We better be able to plan ahead

and really prepare
for the long haul.

It's 60 days,
we're building a home.

Good point.

We can't be a shelter.
It's got to be a home.

If we don't do that,

mother nature will take us out.

Hey, look, look, look!

I see our beds.

All right, let's get it on!

Whoo!

- All right, mud.
- Whoo, chilly.

Had to pack the extra
weight on for this one.

Oh no, thick, thick mud.

Be careful, spread yourself
even across the top.

There are venomous
snakes around here.

There are diseases.

There's any number
of crazy things

that can happen out here.

But I think that the strongest
people are the ones

who have been through
the toughest things.

We've got...

Crazy.

So, it is my very clear
intention to make

it the full 60 days.

Oh, the smell, e.J.

welcome to the swamp.

Oh my god.

Opens up down here,
let's go this way.

On the other side of the web,
I recognize that.

- Oh the bags!
- Those looks familiar.

How do we get there, though?

Just go for it.

It appears this is our baptism
into the louisiana swamp.

- Let's do this.
- All right.

I do not know
what is in this water.

This is loaded with
alligators. Can't see

it's... For me.

I always
show up to the challenge.

I always give it my all.

Taking down that alligator
in the everglades,

that is a huge advantage,
to me personally,

out here amongst
these other survivalists.

But, I absolutely see
this 60-day challenge

as a time to redeem myself.

9 out of 10 pain.

Oh, god.

It's not the best time to be
sick. Lions, I can hear lions.

I've never failed at such
a big challenge in my life.

And that really weighed heavy
on me for some time to come.

You know, I'm a very
highly-motivated person.

And I'm not leaving
until I get to day 60.

- Made it.
- Heck yeah.

All right. Looks like
we found our bags here.

There they are.

Voila!

For the 60-day challenge,

each survivalist has chosen
their own personal blade.

Now that's a knife.

- A big one.
- Nice.

Each team receives
a pot to boil out the giardia,

cryptosporidium,
and other killer microbes

lurking in the brackish water.

- It's a swamp pot.
- Perfect.

Are those hides?

Plus deer hides
for protection against

the frigid winter to come.

Oh my god, they are fresh.

And as a team, they must choose

three additional survival
items from a group of four.

Magnesium fire starter,
no brainer. We need fire.

Well, yeah, for sure.

550 paracord,
we are taking this.

What about this hook,
this thing is a monster.

And it's
got a little weight to it.

You know, that that
is a gator getter.

Fishing line and hooks.

Unfortunately,
we can't keep all of them.

The boat,
that can give us the food

we need to actually
thrive for that sixty days.

Raccoons, boars, you know,
and even alligators.

And every one of us
is plenty capable enough

to hunt any pig or deer
that we find.

I guess it depends,
do we want to go ambitious?

We want that big game?

I mean, there's definitely
fish out there.

You could catch small
fish every day.

We're not all here
for small game, though.

- No, no.
- Yeah,

it's go big or go home.
Right? Yeah.

We're passing on this.

Yeah.

Now, we've got to
have fishing gear.

Yep. Here we've got fishing line

with some hooks in there.

- Okay.
- Yeah.

I'm not much of a hunter. I'm
more of a fisher
and a gatherer.

Honestly, I think we should
take the treble hook.

I'm with you 100%.

With the amount of alligators
that we saw just on insertion.

Well, I mean, we're
literally surrounded by water.

So if we have to leave anything,

we'll leave the bow and we'll
feed ourselves with our hooks.

Our trifecta is going to be
crawfish, catfish, and gator.

Whoo!

- I was hoping you'd say that.
- Gator, right?

Yes, that's for,
that's for alligator.

I mean,
that is more than enough.

So, you guys want to
go without the bow?

I think so. I think
it's probably our best bet

because right now,

there's just so much
food in that water.

Smaller fishing kit.

This is number one. Done.

This is good because there are
deer and there are boar here.

So, that's good for big stuff.
And even birds, small mammals.

I don't think we really
need a gator kit

because I've jumped
on them before.

I know I can stick this knife
right through their skull.

We'll have some gator
dinner and having a bow

with those kinds
of arrows with broadheads.

Some of them get larger
animals like hogs or deer

and we're going
to need it for 60 days.

- I would like to have the bow.
- Yeah, are you okay with that?

Does anybody have the map?

- I have the map.
- My man.

We need to get to the
highest elevation possible.

Looks like the highest
elevation on here.

Yeah, that's somewhere that way.

And if we're there,
we're going to really walk.
This is pretty far.

I think we just got
to look for the tallest trees.

Here might be some high ground.

Yep. And we're still close
to water, a lot of gators.

We could probably hang around
'cause that's where our main
food source will come from.

Our best bet is going this way.

We're losing daylight so,
let's go.

Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.

There's nothing stable
about this ground.

- Feels like it.
- Wow!

Oh, yeah. Oh,

she's, she's deep.

In this environment.

There are so many things
that will take you down,

but I believe in my skills.

This is what we call
dinner in the amazon.

I have enough experience
with snakes and fishing

or wrestling alligators.

There you go.

And I know I survived
two combat tours in iraq

and I've been injured
and I can get through it.

It's so marshy. Oh, this is
gonna be a little tricky.

Soppy, soaky, wet and muddy.

And like quicksand.
It's hard to walk.

That's deep.

- Whoa!
- Oh god, no.

I don't know, guys. So dense.

Feel like we just dropped
down a little lower

in elevation right now.

The ground's got a bit
of moisture to it.

Oh snake right here,
snake right here.

- Snake?
- Yeah!

Copperhead.

Baby copperhead.

Be careful.

Baby venomous snakes
actually are more dangerous

than the adults, because they
don't really give dry bites.

And when they bite you,
they release all of the venom

they have inside of them.

- Where is it?
- There it is, there it is,

- there it is.
- Whack it!

Hurt it.

Got it.

Cut its head off there.
I've got it pinned.

- Oh no. Here we go.
- Got him.

I'm not hungry enough
on day one to eat it.

So I think it's a good idea
to use that as bait.

- One down...
- One down.

A couple 100,000 to go.

We'll be watching for snakes.

Oh, yeah.

You've got to watch where
you step.

It can really make your
life terrible out here

if you don't have
a good team dynamic.

I mean, animals better be aware!

The amount of screaming
jeff is gonna do,

is gonna be deafening.

I should have brought
earplugs as my item.

Oh god! Don't go that way!

Oh, no.

Okay, we're good.

Graceful like an angel.

I've never been called
an angel before.

And lacey.

She'll say what she means
and she'll say it in a way

that can kind
of come across as a, you know,

a little kind of snarky.

I think this might be the
water we pointed out.

Did you hear that?

That must have been
a gator jumping.

That's exactly what
it sounded like.

Let's... It looks like
it keeps getting

higher over here.

Yeah, this is like the highest.

All right. Looks like
it doesn't flood up here.

So that's a huge bonus.

Like just access to resources,

this is the best spot for sure.

I'm hoping we'll be
able to stay here

for the next 60 days.

So depending on the rain,
depending on the tides,

we're gonna have to
play that by ear.

Let's divide and conquer.

But people don't live
out here for a reason.

Because
it's basically impossible.

And we're going to do it
for 60 days,

naked with a knife
and a stick, basically.

It does actually get pretty
high over here, you guys.

That does provide
a good little area.

I mean, if we clear it out

I'm fine if this is where
we're gonna start working.

All right. Let's do it.

So, where are we going to
bed down? Which area?

I think with this, at least
if we have that log,

you get another log.

Yeah, that could form a floor.

In my previous challenges I've
had some difficult partners.

- I'm not playing this.
- Okay.

This mom, give me the water.

You don't talk to me that way,
makani is almost passed out.

You're not even getting
me a straw

this time,

I'm out here with people that
I know they know what to do.

Just like I know,
I know what to do.

Probably use this log
over here to the right

and get another one over there.

- Yeah.
- Get off the ground.

It's a lot of opinion, and the
opinions can all be correct.

You know, there's more than
one way to make a shelter.

And that can be hard.

All right, let's start
clearing it out.

Let's do it.

Right now it's about
getting up off the ground.

Get the fire going.

And boiling some water.

Because the swamp's
the last place

you want to be without shelter.

Oh my gosh, it stinks so bad.
It smells like sewer in here.

Oh, that sucks. I'm in the
water now. that noise.

It's pretty hard
to just move through this.

Oh!

The environment is dangerous,
biting flies, poison ivy,

water moccasins
and alligator being the worst.

It's almost like you need
some snowshoes.

And the clock is ticking,
because the sun is dropping.

Feels like quicksand.

It's like we've been through
quicksand out here.

Here. It's a little
harder over here.

It's incredibly dangerous
because as soon

as it does get dark,
it's pitch black.

When you have
predators everywhere,

it's pure hell at night.

- Dammit.
- Oh!

Come on!!

This is deep, deep mud.

Please let there be
higher elevation.

Okay.

Okay.

I've never walked through such
a gnarly marsh lagoon.

The amount of energy
that we've burned already.

It's crazy.

But, you know,
you go into these challenges

and you put it all on the line.

- Shark!
- Right there!

Holy crap! Go! Go!

Yeah!

So there's a lot of pride
in this challenge.

I'm out here to crush it.
Just got to keep on pushing.

This is okay. It looks
like there's land ahead.

Definitely getting drier.

Here's a nice little opening.

Yeah.

We're near the channel.
Seems like a high spot here.

But it's awfully
close to this water.

So close.

There's not much high ground.

Slim pickings
for our high ground.

We're completely surrounded
by open water and swamps.

So, our area to build
a shelter is very limited.

For once in this challenge,
we actually have an
opportunity

to make a long-term shelter.

- Right.
- I'm talking about

a three-person smaller size,
almost wigwams.

This tree. We have a ridgepole.

I love that. And I think on
this mound with the runoff,

we start bringing
other bendy saplings

and other things in
to make that framework.

Yeah.

Wigwams are round
traditional native american
huts,

which use a framework of
arched wooden poles to create

a domed roof covered in hides,
grasses and reeds.

I am really strong
at primitive skills.

So, shelter building,
gathering, primitive fishing.

We're out here for 60 days

and I think it's going
to come in handy.

I think it's, it's gonna be
a nice little place

once we get it all done.

I couldn't be happier with the
partners I've got out here.

We work really well together.

We're motivated,
everyone just stepped

right up on shelter-building.

When do you think
we should try to get a fire?

Soon.

We need to get a fire going,
get some smoke out here

because this place
is riddled with dangers,

venomous snakes,
the alligators and mosquitoes

are going to get bad.

I'm on fire.

The fire is going
to actually help us

keep all the dangers away

and repel some bugs
with the smoke.

Some good damn teamwork.

For this ultimate
legends challenge,

teams will be evaluated
each week on a new scale.

The xls or xl success metric

weighs each group's
collective skills

and current survival status
to determine their likely

percentage of completing
60 days together as a team.

Matt brings
exceptional hunting skills.

Ryan has valuable swamp
experience

and riley's proven her tenacity

in the most trying conditions.

But none of them have
attempted a challenge

this long
in a location this difficult.

As a result, they're xls

or chance of completing
the challenge

as a team is set at 62%.

It never truly feels like home,

until you got a fire
in the fireplace.

Wow! This is really dry guys.

Yeah, I mean,
this is definitely the most

consistently dry spot I've
seen since we've been looking.

And look,
we got a beach to fish off of.

- I kind of like the spot.
- Yeah.

I'm really kind of feeling

like the three
separate cots thing.

- I do too.
- You know, I mean,

cause then we can all
tend to fire in the middle.

I'm trying to make it 60 days

so we've got to be able
to sleep.

It's crucial
to get off the ground,

because that's where all
the creepy crawlers are.

It's a conductive thing. As
soon as you're on the ground,

that cold ground
will just suck the heat

right out of you.

First reaction
of meeting my partners,

they're very outgoing,
very eccentric,

you can tell we have
alpha presence with max.

He likes to set the pace,
which is great.

I hope I can hold up
to them and show them

my skills as well
and make it happen.

Amber brings significant fishing

and gator know-how
to the challenge.

While max boasts a perfect
survival track record,

and gary's toughness
and scavenging abilities

are unmatched.

Their starting 60-day
xl success metric

is set at 54%.

Max has never tapped out
on any of his challenges.

He's proven himself.
He's arrogant.

Oh, yeah.

But, I'm absolutely
viewed as arrogant too.

So, maybe that's
the personality traits

that come out here
and give this a shot.

Because they're crazy enough
to go do it. I like it, man.

Oh, man, this is like,
memory wood mattress.

Yeah.

Do you why they call
it a memory wood mattress?

- Why?
- Because you'll never forget

sleeping on this

we made it to casa de jeff,
steven lacey.

I'm actually extremely
excited to be working

with jeff and steven.

They are top-notch,
top-notch, I mean,

there's a notch above that,
that's jeff and steven.

Dang, son. Did you leave
any for anyone else?

Setting up camp
in the swamp, it's not ideal.

We have tons of bugs.

We've got crazy mud.
But, you know what?

If you're not positive, the
elements will break you down.

But, luckily, mentally
is where I'm strong.

I never struggle.

I'm pretty happy
for our first day.

Got the first part
of our a frame up,

solid firewood,
water on the fire.

I mean, you can't really ask for

more than for our first day.

I'm waiting for bug o'clock.

- Yeah.
- I'm wondering

what that's gonna be like.

Yeah, my biggest
concern is definitely

what's going to happen
when the sun goes down.

Those mosquitoes tend to erupt.

Jeff's invaluable
60-day experience

and steven's success
in diverse climates

are tempered by lacey's
struggles on past challenges.

Their initial 60-day
xl success metric

is set at 34%.

Damn, mosquitoes are coming
already. Ah, damn it.

Almost there. There we go.

Daylight's going down.

So we've got to find
the right materials to build

some kind of a flat.

- Don't go too fast.
- No.

Okay, now, now I'm great.

Man, I've got probably
the two smallest partners

out here that probably,
I probably outweigh

both of them combined.

And we'll just ram it.

No, no, we won't,
it'll pull me over.

It must be a sight for people
to see with the big 6'3",

285-pound ogre
with a couple elves

through the forest because
they're only 110 pounds each,

a foot shorter than
I, look like two bookends.

Ladies, I'm very impressed
with my teammates.

With e.J.'s spotless
record of completing

four challenges
across three continents,

sarah's grit and innovation,

and suzanne's high survival iq,

this team's chance of
completing 60 days is 47%.

Got fire. We can try
to get some smoke going.

Watch your fingers,
watch fingers.

But from
my experience in the amazon,

there's no true answer to...

When the mosquitos want you,

they're going to come for you.

They're so mean!

It is night one
and the mosquitoes are out.

We are all thoroughly
getting bit right now.

I looked at my legs
and they're on fire right now.

I have bugs eating me alive
and my legs hurt so bad.

Bayou

it is a bug-filled night.

It is bad, real bad.

The mosquitoes are, like thick,

you can actually move
your hand through the air

and actually feel
them hitting mosquitoes.

I covered myself in clay.

You know, we're doing
everything we can to keep,

to keep these mosquitoes at
bay but right now it is thick!

We're going to do our
best to make it through.

It's going to be a long night.

My god, man, that is so bad!

The mosquitoes
are emergency level.

Literally,
just standing around the fire

in the smoke,
miserable, complete misery.

At any one time
you have 10 mosquito bites.

I want to go
and jump in the river.

And sit in the river
up to my neck in water

just so the bugs can't get me.

But, of course,
alligators feed at night

and we would be killed.

And that's my best idea,
right now.

And that should tell you how,
how bad this is.

Oh my god. This is horrible.

They are whacking us.
Trying to lay down,

trying to get comfortable,
trying to get some sleep

and it's definitely difficult.

This is not just annoying,
this is pain.

This is like hypodermic
needles going into your skin.

Louisiana mosquitoes suck
and are fierce.

It is all-night relentless
attacks.

Right now, my feet
are unbelievably swollen.

I don't even recognize
my feet anymore.

Our bodies are just
solid welts right now.

It is unbearable.

This is the worst night
imaginable on planet earth.

It is at the borderline of
what human beings can endure.

Not once in 135 days doing
these "naked and afraid"
challenges

have I ever once even had the
thought of going home early,

but this location
is insurvivable.

Damn it.

We went through hell last night.

- Yeah.
- We may still be in hell.

Last night was the
worst night I've ever had

in my entire life.

It was brutal,
mentally and physically.

And drained me in a way
I've never ever felt before.

I think this is a location
unlike any

that we've ever done
on this challenge.

We all have thousands
of bites on our body.

My body is reacting right now.

And my feet
are incredibly swollen.

I cannot articulate
my ankle back and forth.

I am exhausted.

I think we're all
just in a daze right now.

We didn't get a minute
of sleep last night.

Our bodies hurt. And it's just
the start of day two.

I'm just not a quitter.

You know,
yesterday we killed it.

- We kicked butt.
- We did.

We had fire, we had firewood,
we had a decent shelter going.

This trio? Unstoppable.

We're gonna finish our shelter.

- Oh, yeah.
- Gather some more firewood.

I'm fried, man.

Poor jeff.

I finally have partners
that I am compatible with

and I can't survive out here
without the legends.

So, we got to kind of just try
to pull each other up.

All you can do is push
through the next minute,

the next hour, the next day.
And that's my plan.

We just gotta keep trucking man.

Just make victory
that much sweeter.

Oh, so, it is the
morning of day two.

Night one was horrible.

There's no possible way to sleep

with these mosquitoes around.

They're awful.

My biggest concern is the roof.

So I'm thinking we're going
to get two beams

to make the a frame, have a
cross beam to another a frame

and then we just start lining
beams up to the ground.

Why don't we sit down
and just talk about

what we're going to do.

And that way I feel like
we're being productive

- yet, we're resting.
- All right.

Okay, so I'm gonna start
just gathering poles

and figure out this roof system.

- If you guys are...
- So, which way

do you imagine a roof, then?

Two poles?

And then, that way with the roof

or we could just do
totally asymmetric

and go from there to here,
and then down that way.

Yeah.

My suggestion is that...

Or actually, maybe this is the
back, and that's the front.

Yeah, I mean...

We're gonna have to dig down
and then cordage it to that.

- I mean...
- And then put other logs
around it.

I'm getting a little
frustrated with the workflow

because I'm a workhorse.

I'm a get in there,
get it done kind of guy.

And they've got great attitudes,

they want to pitch in.

But, I think we have
some conflicts in terms

of structure design.

Or if we have an a frame
that's going like this,

it'll kind of hopefully smoke
out all those damn mosquitoes.

There's a lot of ideas
floating around.

I want to be a supportive
teammate.

I want to be a good
teammate for my team.

But right now,
we just need to get a shelter.

I'm just gonna
let everyone know.

I'm a mission-oriented guy,

and I will start getting antsy.

Like this shelter.
So just letting you know.

We all got tore up
by mosquitoes last night.

So today is operation
pimp our shelter

and make it
as airtight as possible

so the smoke lingers and keeps
out most mosquitoes.

I'd say our shelter
is pretty far along.

All we have now
is the final touches.

Yeah, agreed.

So, what do you think?
Bait our alligator hooks?

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

Let's get them in the water.
Day two.

We haven't eaten yet.
We still want that big game.

We want that big protein.
We're here for 60 days.

We're gonna need food
pretty soon.

This bait smells, guys.
We did a good job.

We don't have great bait
right now.

But we do have a dead copperhead

that we've been
letting marinate.

I've hunted gators
for a lot of years.

And I know alligators
hunt strictly

by their sense of smell
and sight.

So, if they can smell this
copperhead cooking on a hook,

then they're most likely going
to come in and become dinner.

Sitting up some gator lines.

It'll be so... To eating gator.

Did you hear something
that way? Like a splash?

Oh, gator right there.

Oh yeah.

Right there's about
a six and a half foot gator.

Yeah.

Close, but not close enough.

The only way to get
one in this deep canal

body of water
is going to be the hooks.

No, I know.

For deeper waters
we have to use the hooks.

I don't know any other way
to go about harvesting

an alligator in water
that's over my head.

I'm not even going
to get in there.

If we can find an area that's
a little more ankle-deep,

knee-deep water we might be
able to be successful

with the bow and arrow
in an alligator

or, or the alligator
boomstick noose.

- We put one here.
- Yeah.

We tie it here.

We can drape it over that way.

And then have a good,
nice visual.

We have to extend
our paracord long enough

that that alligator
will take it and we could try

to pull him in from shore.

- All right.
- I like it.

One more.

Going to the next one.

This feels very gatory.

I feel like a gator would
really like it over here.

The only way he knows
the gig is up,

is if he feels the hook
and spits it out.

I don't know about you guys,

but I'm starting
to, like, salivate.

Hunger.

What we're really hoping
for is he'd swallow it.

And then it's go time.

If you think they're good
enough.

Oh, hey.

There's an alligator
right next to our line.

Really? Already?

That's about a six-foot gator.

Three feet from our line
right now.

It's thinking about it.

It's moving, it's moving.

Damn it.

It's kind of spooked from us.

Jeez, damn it.

That was close.

He was literally ready
to eat it and we scared him.

See you later, alligator.

- Okay, we've got water.
- Water's done.

Do you guys want some?

It tastes like bathwater?

It tastes like bathwater.

Day two, had a hell
of a night last night.

Getting attacked
by flies, mosquitoes.

Yeah, you name it.
I didn't get any sleep.

So today we're going
to finish up our shelter.

All right.

That's all the palms
that I've seen.

So, now it's more about
a hunt for palms

because we need
shingles for our shelter.

- I see one.
- Do you?

Oh, yeah, right there!

- Right there.
- Oh, I see it.

I'll swim to that.

Okay, gary,
if you need help just scream

and I'll swim to you.

We're in hurricane
county. We're in louisiana.

The thing
is we gotta not get wet

and we gotta not get wind on us

at night when it gets colder.

Hypothermia can absolutely
take somebody out

of this challenge.

So we got plenty of lumber.
I just need shingles.

Go, gary.

Keep your eyes peeled for
alligators while I'm out here.

You're ready, babe.

These alligators are
no joke out here in the swamp.

He's crazy.

I've seen my friends
get hurt and bit by gators.

I had my foot bit

two and a half weeks before
I came here. Fear is real.

- Hey, you guys!
- What?

I found another one.

Just in a little bit
full of palm leaves.

- Hell, yeah.
- Beautiful!

We're palm leaf-rich!

Hey, I'll take that.

Oh,

he's hilarious, dude.

There's alligators out here.

But I want to be
the guy to go for it.

It's part of the reason why
I'm here, because
I take risks.

And in these challenges,
I've had it not pay off,

put me in the hospital and
I've had it pay off hugely.

That's me. Check it out.
Alligator tracks.

See his toe?

That looks like about
between five and seven feet

for this alligator.

I'm literally getting
the palms right from

where he likes to chill.

There's a little gator
in the water

and he's going towards gary.

Hey, gary. There's
an alligator in the water.

About 100 yards from where
I'm pointing. Coming down.

It's gonna take me a while to
swim with this. Right there?

Yeah.

Oh, that's like 50 yards.

Yeah, it's moving closely.

If an alligator gets
ahold of you,

the pressure
on those bites is huge.

And then they do a death roll.

So, out here if you get a big
enough gator up on you.

You're in trouble.

Be careful, gary.

No way.

Something's coming.

Oh, time to go.

Something's coming.

Oh, time to go.

So close. that is so sketchy.

Gary is a wild man.
He's balls to the wall.

But as a partner
and a survivalist.

He might have
questionable judgment.

That was close, dang it.

Do you want to take
a break and rest?

- Yeah, I'm gonna take it.
- Why don't you rest?

Unless you want to
put your deer hide on

and kind of walk
on the bank right here.

No way.

You never know.

We got a pretty solid
amount of firewood right now.

But the mosquitoes were so bad.

You need like three times
more for that.

We're constantly going
to be up and feeding the fire

all night long.

And what the smoke
is going to do is to help

deter the mosquitoes.

All right.

This is the worst day ever.

And we got to change that.

Surviving night one,
here was the most difficult

thing I've ever done.

But we made it and I'm
committed to this challenge

and my teammates.

We're all pitching in together.

We're banding together
and we're making it happen.

What do you guys think
about cutting a big old piece

of my deer hide off and
throwing it on a treble hook.

Cool.

We've seen a lot of gators
already this far.

We know they're out there.

My gosh,
if we could reel in a six,

eight-foot gator, we'd be
looking really, really good.

- It's pretty good...
- Once it's in.

- Especially with the barbs
hanging out.
- Yeah, it is.

Yeah, you're good.

And I'm gonna hang it
from that little lime tree,

right across the river.

There's definitely gator
markings right over there.

Gators definitely sunbathe
there in the afternoon.

So what you want to do is you
want to dangle a hook,

about eight inches
above the water surface

hanging from a tree.

The gator will launch
up out of the water,

ingest the hook, take it down
with him and swallow it.

And then he's stuck.

Cross our fingers,
we might kill something today.

We got to keep vigilant.

Alligators, you know,
that's food.

But, it's also terrifying.

And it's very dangerous.

Alligators have 82 teeth,

and they have a bite force
of over 4,000 pounds

per square inch.

It's one of the highest
bite forces

in all of mother nature.

That's something
you don't want to be on

the wrong end of.

That's the end. Not just the
end of the challenge.

It might be the end
of our lives.

- Oh my god.
- It's a alligator.

- Where?
- Right there.

Oh yeah. I see him.

That was dangerously close.

Freaking terrifying.
Jeff. Oh my gosh.

Dude, there was an
alligator right there.

No way. He was right here?

He's, he's over there now.

Oh, I see him, son of a bitch.

That's crazy.

That was crazy dangerous.

- Sorry.
- Are you all right? Ready?

We are, are we letting it
down? What are we doing?

Up.

Wait, wait. If we go up,
then we have to hold it

the whole time
you're making stakes.

Yeah, okay, just, just, just...

You just can't let it slide
anymore or it'll break it.

This is a fairly
ambitious shelter build.

We've got quite a large a
frame that's going to require

pretty substantial amount
of greens to cover it.

The raised platform in
the middle is going to include

a very nice mantel piece,

with a billowing smoke fire
that not only provides warmth,

but also smoke helps
to deter insects

in a place like this where the
mosquitoes are literally hell.

There we go. Perfect.

Did you want to lash it,
at least that end?

- What?
- While we're holding it,

you want to tie it like,

cordage that one?

I thought the weight
itself would be fine.

I just didn't know
if you wanted to secure

it a little more.

I think it's gonna be fine.

But, I can if you want I mean...

I'm trying really hard
to be patient.

Finally, we're going to get
a roof done.

- Something's not right.
- It should come this way.

Yeah.

And if I keep hearing"
whoa, whoa, whoa,

whoa, let's relash it,
let's re-secure that."

let's just get
the damn thing up,

lash it down
and just get it done.

It's really busy
doing survival stuff.

Oh!

I am bound
and determined to get hit!

Put it down, put it down,
put it down.

It's gonna bust the cord.

In this particular situation,
what's happening is

I am out here with e.J,
you know,

and I don't want
to feel like a sidekick

- right there.
- All right.

Obviously,
he has all the knowledge

and obviously he can
answer all the questions

and I just don't like
that all the time.

I want to be seen and be known
as a valuable partner.

But that one needs one. I only
corded this side over here.

Right. And I put a stake
in the backside.

Right, but this side.

I'll get you another stick.

Right now, it's day two.

We got a half-assed
shelter and we're facing

another tough night
of mosquitoes and no sleep.

That's a tall order and I'm
just calling it like it is.

After you put those in,
I think I'd feel better

if there were two
stakes on each side.

Yeah.

We'll get some more in there,

make you feel more comfortable.

Oh god. They're so bad.

Yeah, they're biting.

Oh my god. Holy crap.

We are about an hour past
sunset on day two

and it is already unbearable,
the mosquitoes are insane.

All over me, all over me!
Embrace the suck.

It's maddening,
I tell you. It's maddening!

It's night two. The mosquitoes
are actually pretty bad.

- It's already out.
- Oh, they're out, baby.

Oh god.

This is terrible.

Tonight, our entire
camp's flooding.

Everything's almost underwater.

Oh gosh.

Oh my god, look at that.
He's like knee-deep in water.

The water must be rising
more and more every day.

I don't think so.

The tides continue to rise,
and the waters continue

to creep in on our shelter
and our fire location.

So, I'm just looking
at the new moon right now.

By the time it's a full moon,

this entire place
will be underwater.

Last night was the worst
night of my entire life.

You couldn't write a worse
two days than this.

This is not for the faint
of heart.

- God help us.
- Life's not easy in the swamp.

Well, so we were almost
totally underwater last night.

Everything flooded
except this eight by eight

- little square right here.
- That was crazy.

We were blessed to have
an area just big enough

to fit our three bodies
and a small fire.

If it would've rained,
if the tide would have rose
any more,

we'd have been,
it'd have been devastating.

There's water just right
under here

like probably 12 inches
under there's water.

-Totally.
-I think that all this is
going to be

flooded within this.

We have to move camps.

This camp is not going to last
us maybe even one more night.

We got to
find some higher ground

go find a new place.

Somewhere we can actually live.

Yeah.

Today's moving day, period.

100%.

It has been a hellish
time so far.

So I'm really hoping
that this move

is kind of like a clean slate.

Cordage, hides, knives,
fishing hook stuff, pot.

I think together if we go
and find something new

and just start all over.

We're gonna be all
the better for it.

This is where we are.

Now, we know that
everything on this side

of the river
is all freaking underwater.

Yeah, maybe if we cross
on over...

Across the river?

And there's pretty thick trees
it looks like here.

And a lot of times
there's trees...

Drier ground, drier ground.

So getting out of the...
Any place

is gonna be better
than this place.

- That's true.
- Two worst nights ever.

I'm not gonna miss this place.

No.

This place hurt my soul.

That water tastes like rotten

it's the worst.

I'm just getting a ton
of firewood of all varieties.

We ran out last night
and I don't like that.

We need to have a lot of
fuel to keep the fire burning.

Because I think these
mosquitoes, if you use

a lot of smoke, they just
don't want to be around.

Every day, small wins.
That's how you get to 60 days.

- That's your new pile?
- Yep.

Nice.

Right and I'm starting to get a,

a like a burning sensation
on my nuts.

My man bits are like burning.
Are yours?

Are you having any reaction?

No, I haven't got bit
on them or nothing.

Yep, they're looking angry.

I looked down at my family bits

and it looks like I just got
road rash or run over

by a truck and there is
a burning of the scrotum.

It is quite angry-looking.

Oh my...

That looks like you've dipped
them in boiling water.

Dude, it's, it's bad.
Rylie, what do you think?

Yeah, they look pretty awful.

I mean I'm not laughing
at you, brother,

but you might want to
get that looked at.

So if we pan back
to the amazon jungle,

I contracted a rare flesh
eating bacteria on my foot.

We received the test
results back

and the type of bacteria
that came back

is a lot stronger than
what we can treat out here.

Well, hell, I even thought maybe

I'll just cut off those toes.

I don't need a couple
of those toes.

Well, this is a different
ballgame, people.

There is something
happening to my boys.

They're not getting cut off.

And I'm damn well hell not
getting tapped out of here

for some kind
of a testicular issue.

This kind of looks like one
of these things

that's here local in the swamp.

It's called nutria itch.

It's from the feces
of the nutria

that live in the swamps here.

It's a microscopic roundworm,
they can get into you

from getting in the mud
too much and having

that moisture against
your skin too much.

I rubbed that mud on
myself for mosquito repellent.

Nutria are large
aquatic rodents that can grow

up to 20 pounds,
and release parasitic eggs

into the water
through their feces.

That's a new one.

I like to break the barrier
here on this challenge,

so might as well be
the first one to get

them nutria poop worm
parasite on my nut.

I need you to try to stay
as dry as you can

and stay out of sitting
in the mud.

Try not to have too
much moisture in there

throughout the day, like this.

- Okay?
- All right, thanks.

Out here to say that something
should stay dry is, is tricky.

We're only a foot above
sea level in a swamp.

So whatever I do,
I've got to keep,

keep my nuts out of water.

Something so small like that,
an irritant like that

it's not something that you
want to take lightly.

And he is by far the
best hunter, most experienced.

And if matt were to be
taken out,

that would be a huge danger
for myself and riley.

This kind of stuff scares me.

It's something
I've never quite seen before.

That could get in your
bloodstream, you know?

Oh, that's right, right there
in a vulnerable spot.

I hate to leave the challenge
from some kind of nut bite.

It's become a situation.

Dammit. That's not good for us.

I know we've all gone
quite a long time.

I've gone a week without
eating on one of
these challenges.

But I don't want to wait.

We don't want to...

We don't want to start this
60 day, you know, in a hole.

- Right.
- Food-wise.

So, time to hunt.
Go big or go hungry.

I'm an apex hunter.

And to get a little nutria
itch on my nether region.

It sucks.

I can't
go wade through the swamp.

I can't go into some
of these areas.

So, that weighs on me heavily.

I'm just gonna step up my game
today and make sure

that we have, you know, as much,

as much efficiency
today as we can.

I just caught this lizard
here, whacked
him with a stick on a tree.

And pretty much anything
we find that's this small

right now we're just gonna
be using as bait.

Toss it in the water.
There we go.

My fingers are crossed.

I was looking for some
crawfish holes because

they're in the mud.

I was getting some wood,
but I don't see them.

You think they'd be
all in this mess.

Obviously I'll never be
as good a hunter as matt is,

but we're out here for 60 days.

I will literally do whatever
it takes to support my team.

What the hell?

I lost the lizard.

So, right through that
gap is a squirrel.

Missed by mere inches.

Next time.

I just misjudged
the distance slightly,

hit just over its head.

Every shot
I take with this thing,

it's kind of becomes
a part of me.

Soon we'll be dialing in.

And there'll be some stuff
cooking on that fire.

We could start at the top,
get you on my shoulders,

start there.
Click, click, click.

And then we just have
to dig these ones,

you know, underneath
to do the shingling.

A shelter is so important now.

We have to finish it today,
I think.

We just, I can't have
more nights like that,

it'll break me.

Yeah, I have to get it done.
Got to get the roof done.

Get the platform up
and start collecting firewood

so we can get onto bigger,
better things, like hunting.

I just, I'm just tired of
just messing with it.

I just want to get the roof up.

The good idea ferry
has left the station.

So we just gotta get down,
hunker down.

Keep going. So it fits
in that crook. Yeah.

Oh, it's in there.

We're on day three now.

And none of us
have really eaten.

Yet we all know that we have
to work on the shelter.

So that we can get through the
night and without mosquitoes.

So that's our main thing.
I mean, the only thing is...

Take that end up a little
bit on your side.

Maybe not.

By physics, we put too much
weight on this end,

it's hanging over.

It's gonna pull it,
we probably need to...

I'm gonna lash this,
though. I'm just...

- If we can go to this.
- But the weight,

the weight's off now.

E.J seems like
he's getting a little
frustrated

with suzanne.

There's a little bit
of a friction there.

That's definitely evident.

I'm not sure
if she's feeling the friction,

but I can definitely
tell it's there.

Wait, wait, wait, stop chopping.

What?

Sarah, can you hold
that lashing?

Because it's putting a lot of
pressure sliding it

down that pole.

- No more pressure.
- Nevermind.

No more pressure.

I'm really trying to exercise
a strong sense of patience.

Especially when dealing with
suzanne. Sarah, she's great.

With suzanne, it's always
just talk, talk, talk.

Slightly down.

I think just
to hear yourself talk.

That, I think, fell.

- What?
- The pole's off on this side.

There we go.

On both sides, and...

Okay, okay, okay.

You know, I'm not a know-it-all,

I'm not trying to be
a know-it-all, but, damn.

You know, don't talk to me like

I don't know what the
I'm talking about.

The angle slid with the lashing.

You can't do that.
You're pushing this, that way.

Alright, alright, calm down.

I was just letting you know
to stop.

- What?
- It's pushing that way.

I can tell by weight.

I'm sure it has to be cut.

- I'm gonna cut it.
- Yes.

- Right about there.
- Okay.

Everybody approve? Excellent.

Right there. Good.

I'll let you ladies have that.

There, I can go take a break.
It's driving me crazy.

There's no way I'm gonna be
able to go 60 days with that.

Eight miles away,
jeff, lacey and steven

are still in search of high
ground for a new camp.

We could just take it
slow and easy for me.

Yeah.

My feet are
still incredibly swollen

and painful.

I mean, the swamps
are the worst place

a human being
can try to survive.

But I'm out here now because
I want to be the best

that I can be.

But also, I want to be
the best of anybody
in this challenge.

Check that out. The land
seems to definitely...

-It looks way drier
over there.
-Go up,

out of the water.

Oh my gosh, it does.

You can even see
the dry dirt from here.

- Yeah.
- We haven't seen dry dirt.

- Yet.
- Since we've been here.

Be careful around
here too, guys.

There could
be alligators all up in here.

The gators are definitely
out there.

And are some of the most
dangerous predators

here in the swamp.

So you have to always focus
on your environment.

Oh, it's cold.

I'll take the water,
you take this.

Okay.

Okay, I'll just swim with it.

Yes.

This is crazy.

Okay.

Dry up here, guys.

- Yeah!
- Dry ground! Thank goodness!

Look at this land, dude.

It's drier than any
other area, so.

I'm digging it.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah,
look at this dry ground.

Yeah, you hear that?
Crunchy leaves, big trees.

- Full-grown trees.
- No mud.

That's a good sign right here
with this like tree trifecta.

We could do like a 123.
At least give us a roof.

Okay, well, then I guess
it's time to start chopping.

Yeah.

To move camps, it's not ideal.

It's hard to start from
absolutely nothing.

And we're having
to build it all over again,

in a new environment.

It's impossible
to decide whether or not

this is the right decision.

We'll have
to see how tonight goes.

But we just need to avoid
another night one.

Doesn't it feel like day
one all over again?

This is way worse.

But we did it once,
we can do it again.

We'll start boiling
the water and then we could go

set up our gator line.

Yep.

That would be something,
if we got a gator.

I think that's huge.
The gator trap idea,
that's cool.

Day three without
anything substantial.

We're trying to figure out
the best way for us

to get food on the table.

And as of right now, you know,
it's coming out of that water.

We see every single day
we're seeing alligators,

and we just need to be able to
get that on our dinner table.

All right,
I'm going to go with max,

we're gonna set up
that gator hook.

And I'll just be working
on lumber and firewood.

Oh, wow. Check it out.

This is hyacinth.

Uh-oh, gary's eating something,

what's gonna happen to him?

In these challenges, I really
do apply the scavenger style.

I really try to develop a diet
of the plants around me,

and so I can sustain myself

while I'm looking for the
other opportunities.

So a little bit of nectar,
a little bit of sweetness

what the bees go after and
then the pollen is in there

which is one of the richest
sources of vitamins in nature.

And high on protein.

I'm a survivalist.

I know my stuff.

Have you ever seen
me eat anything

and something go wrong?

Oh, never mind.

Delicioso.

We use that tree right there
to hold the meat up on

and give it... As soon as the
gator bites it, pulls it down.

It will go into the water
with the gator.

Yeah.

We have very limited
resources on bait.

We have the rotting deer
hide with a crawfish.

Why don't we go
for two crawfish.

- You got one?
- Yeah.

They're
in all these holes, but...

Should we just go
with crawfish without that?

No. I think that the
deer's rot smell,

that's what they want.

They don't like things
that are alive.

Crawfish deer dinner,
surf and turf, baby.

Here, can you hold this?

And I'm just gonna crawl
out onto that tree branch.

Okay, please be careful,
brother.

There we go.

When I look at my partners,
I know that I had the most

experience with alligators
due to the fact that I go out

and wrestle them multiple
times throughout the year.

I was taught how to manage
them, how to hold them.

You know, at some point there
might be a 12-footer that I

put a noose around his
neck and ripped out the water.

Right about there.

I got it.

I'm grateful enough that
max is willing to listen to
me.

And you know what?
It is going to work.

We are going to catch a gator.

I'm going to give it about
12 feet.

Yeah.

Because then it can't
go anywhere

and I'm going to tie it,
does that sound good?

Yeah.

That's pretty legit.
It ain't going nowhere.

Whoo! Good work.

High five, man.

We are tying supports
on our roof

so that we can hang
palm over it.

Assuming we have plenty of palm.

And this will create a rain
shelter and a sun shelter

and hopefully enclose
the space so that smoke

from inside will deter
the mosquitoes

and help to keep it warm
when it gets cold at night.

Me and suzanne, every time
something needs to be said

or something I said
she has to chime in

or she has to give her opinion

and maybe I'm looking
at that the wrong way.

Because I'm trying really
hard to be patient.

I'm about survival. Not drama.

It's a cottonmouth.

That's the deadliest thing
that's out here in the swamps.

Big

oh, yeah. He's not happy.

The water moccasin,
or cottonmouth,

is known for its highly
aggressive behavior.

It's venom prevents its
victim's blood from clotting,

causing severe hemorrhaging.

Nasty, nasty snake.

Nasty, nasty little booger.

He's a big son of a gun.

Looks like he might have
just ate something too.

See? This just signifies how
dangerous it is out here.

And how we have to watch
everywhere we walk

because that sucker
was sitting right there.

Take its head off.
Move it. That is food.

Oh my god, we're gonna eat good

because this is
a fat humdinger of a snake.

Yeah! Whoo! We eat tonight.

- Oh, ladies.
- Yes.

It's the heat of the day.

I think we should eat
some lunch.

That is a big snake!

Yeah!

This could have got any one of
us on that trail over there.

- Dang it.
- Oh, squishy.

Yeah, there's something
in there.

This is definitely
full of something.

E.J comes in
with this huge fat snake.

I mean, it's like a, like
a big piece of meat.

I'm excited to see
what's in that belly.

Look at all this meat.

Yeah, snakes,
they'll just peel right off

and all the crap inside
them comes with him.

Whoa, there's another snake
in there!

Careful. Careful, careful.

Is it alive in there?

It could be.

We gotta be really,
really, super careful.

Holy

alright, so normally the snake
would peel all this guts

out with us.

But not this time.

So, I'm gonna cut this guy out.

Looks like another moccasin.

Yeah,
the scale pattern
looks just the same.

I've never ate a snake out
of another snake before.

Careful,
I don't know what this
's

going to do once he comes out,

because that's definitely
another moccasin.

I'm gonna hack it right now.
Just in case.

Yes.

- Suzanne?
- Yes.

We have a surprise for you.

You will not believe this.

What?

We went down to an area
to clean this thing.

That snake ate a moccasin.

See how brutal they are!

Our bodies
so much needed this food.

And it's just wonderful.

But it's just really
driving at home for me

about how dangerous
this area is.

It's not even just our camp.

It's not even just
danger in the water,

it's danger anywhere I go.

That's a lot of snake.

- We're gonna eat good.
- Yeah, we are.

We deserve it.
We've been busting our asses.

Hey, you guys?

- Yes?
- Look at this.

There's a little gator
in the water

and he's going towards our bait.

Our one gator line we have
out there.

Max, get that treble hook.
If we can reach him,

I say we snag him.

Okay.

This gator is teasing us.

He's coming up to the shore,
messing with us a little bit,

but he's too far
away from the bait.

So we're going to toss
out a treble hook

to try to wrangle him in.

A treble hook is a
singular three-pronged hook

that is effective in catching
fish from multiple angles.

By tying
a treble hook to paracord,

he team hopes to toss it
out far enough

to snag the gator
and pull it to shore.

He's turning around, give him
a second, just be patient.

He's just got to get
a little closer.

Aw, he's so beautiful.
It looks delicious.

Do you know what you
guys got to remember?

Is as soon as you reel him in,
we just need to get the tail.

That's full control.

You pull his tail this way
and he tries to come bite you.

He can't, they can't
bite their own tail.

Whatever way they're coming,
pull the tail
towards his face.

We've got
about a six-foot alligator.

Just drifting down the river.

And amber
wants to wrestle it in.

I'm thinking
that he's starting to move

a little closer here.

Gary, maybe you grab
this treble hook and see

if you can walk the
distance that he is out there.

So I have the right amount
of line.

I'm just making sure I have
enough line to make that toss.

All right, that's good.

Are you sure you don't want
me to throw the line?

This is what I do.
I think I got it.

I've been playing
ball my whole life.

Okay.

I consider myself a max
of all trades

and I have never really known
my limits.

I've always been like I see it.

I want to do it.
So I'm gonna go for it.

Nailed the water.

Here, let me help you
with your cord.

It's okay.

The thing that really bugs me,

is when I said, "max, grab the
treble hook and the cordage

and set it up
and bring it to me".

And he immediately
wanted to take over.

That's about all I got right
there. That was horrible.

Oh, got me a big old log here.

He's too far now.

What a bust.

That's a thick boy.

That thing's about eight feet,
I'd guess.

See the eyes and the nose
is such a big space.

That's how you gauge
what's under the water.

It's so crazy to see that
it can feed us for ages, ages.

I mean, we would eat until
we're full several times.

So yeah, it's tantalizing.

It's rough to see it.

But we do have, you know,
hooks in the water,

your odds go up
with hooks in the water.

So, hopefully he meanders
around and gets an interest

in our hooks because
that would be amazing.

See you later alligator.

- It got warm quick.
- Right, it did.

Do you want some more water?

- Yes.
- Force it.

I'm feeling pretty tired today.

And very dehydrated.
I can't chug anymore.

The water source here has all
that green algae and stuff.

So getting used to the water.

It's not easy,
it's not comfortable.

- I feel nauseous.
- Oh, no.

Man, I wish we just had
a spring or something.

We're not even a week
into the challenge. Both,

both of my partners
are having problems.

So we really need to
make sure we find a way

to work around this.

Seriously, when this is done,
we pull it off

and put it maybe
in the shade in the water.

I'm going to get out
of the sun. I'm gonna keep
pushing forward.

We're gonna boil another
pot of water today

and just see if my body
is starting to get used to it.

And if it's not,
I'm gonna have a problem

making it to day 60.

Let's see what happens.

Nice roaring fire so
that we can have lunch.

We have to cook the snake now,
we can't wait till dinner

because with this humidity
and all of these

flies and mosquitoes
and bugs and everything.

It will, it'll rot on us
before we get a chance.

- Cheers.
- Cheers.

- Cheers.
- Snake.

This is so good.

It's real good!

It is really good.
It tastes like chicken jerky.

That was worth the risk.
Our bayou bounty.

When you're doing as
much work as we are.

You're expending
a lot of calories.

So, to get some food gives us
a little bit more energy.

And I'm hoping to finally
be really in our groove

the way we need to be.

I want us to be a team
that's functioning.

What a day. I mean,
the way things turned around.

Look how the roof is looking.

Yummy, yummy in my tummy.

Oh yeah.

This is delicious.
It's very good.

Our shelter is coming
along great.

What do you guys think?

We take a walk?

We got gator hooks
that have been sitting

in the water all night.

Hopefully there might
be something on those.

And then if we have a gator on
the hook, lacey on its back...

- Depending on the size.
- On how big it is.

- That's the jam.
- That is the jam.

You get the mouth closed,
you mount it,

I put the knife
through its skull. Yeah.

Everyone has their blades?

Yep.

We're gonna go check
our fishing lines

back at our previous camp.

Hopefully
we can get an alligator.

I think if we get something
big and amazing like that

and we get to do it together,

I think it's going
to lift everyone's spirits.

- Well, should we hit it?
- Yeah, let's do it.

Be careful around here
too, guys.

Because with all this
flooding, it would have pushed

the snakes right up
out of that channel.

My feet are still overcoming
the effects of night one.

I think my body is rebelling
against the bug bites.

So, hopefully
this gets better with time.

See,
it's still hanging out there.

Oh, is it?

Yeah, I think that's it.

On the surface of the water.

Yeah, that's it right there.

Oh, man, I was really hoping
for something amazing there.

Fingers crossed
we get one tomorrow.

Hunting these alligators
is just like fishing.

We got to find the right bait.

You know, it's just trial
and error out here.

We're learning
our environment every day

that we're living in it.

So would you be comfortable
with a four-foot,

mounting a four-foot gator?

Yeah, definitely
a four-foot would be fine.

Yeah.

Oh, hold on.
Hold on. Right here.

Holy right here. You see this?

Oh my god.

He's looking right at us too,
that's a big one.

- That's a cottonmouth.
- Yeah.

And he's already
agitated right now.

Yes, cottonmouth
is very agitated.

Do you see how
he's kind of like,

flexing his muscles like that?

Yeah. I got him.

I think you're ready.

All right, lacey, I'm gonna
just kind of draw him out

a little bit. I'll get him
pinned right around here.

And then I'll let you know
when I've got him. Okay?

That's all right.

Super defense mode right now.

Holy son of a gun.

That is coming towards me.

Good god, baby,

holy son of a gun.

That is coming towards me.

Good god, baby,

- are you ready? Are you ready?
- Yep.

I got him.

- Yeah! Get it, girl.
- Yes.

- Oh my god...
- his head is still on.

His head is still on.

Yes!

Whoo!

Yeah, baby!

- Oh my god, look how fat it is.
- -hell yeah!

Yes!

I'm so proud of you!

Awesome.

Lacey is an incredible teammate.

And let me say it here first.

She has everything it takes
to last 60 days out here,

without a doubt in my mind.

That was so gore,
I thought I was gonna die.

Close your eyes.

Snake baptism!

Yeah! Oh, yeah!

This is how we do it!

I'm super stoked.
That's my first-ever snake.

It made me feel like
I was a part of the group

and that I really belong here.

It's so cool.

I'm just making a little
fishing pole right now.

Not really gonna be crazy,
but I'll catch fish.

To survive 60 days
in the swamp you have to eat.

So, even though we have
very limited fishing gear.

I'm gonna go out there
and I'm gonna get a damn fish,

is what I'm gonna do.

I'm gonna
throw a line out today.

Maybe catch a catfish.

I got a crawfish on it,
something favorite

that they love.

You're gonna want to put
that towards the bottom.

- Sorry, I didn't want
to interject.
- Can I finish?

Thank you for talking for me.

Catfish are
bottom-eaters, honey,

I fish them all the time,
right now.

Being surrounded by alpha males

who always want to take
the lead is nothing new to me.

But I know what
I'm doing out here.

Are you gonna feed us, amber?

I promise I'll do my best.
Because we need it.

We scored with amber as a
teammate, let me tell you.

Fingers crossed!

All right,
right there is a squirrel.

You might be asking
why wouldn't I go

shoot that squirrel?

Well, unfortunately,

I've got the nutria itch
on my scrotum.

And right now, being that
it's kind of an open wound,

I can't go crossing this water,

so the agony to me to have
something right there

but I can't hunt it

because I can't get across
that water yet.

Got those squirrels on layaway?

Can't get them yet. But soon.

Oh, yeah, baby.

We got dinner.
Look at that meat.

This is a lot of food
for three people

it's a lot for three people.

We're gonna be bayou bobby
flays by the end of this.

Heck yeah!

He'll be calling us
for recipe advice.

We just can't have them
roll into the fire

because their nerves
are gonna start twitching.

So that's what happens to
snake when you freshly kill it

and throw it on a hot griddle.

It moves as if it was alive.

All right, team.

First dinner.

- Cheers.
- Cheers.

Cheers.

This is really good.

Yeah.

I mean, this almost
tastes like the type of meat

that you would get
at a brazilian rodizio.

Tastes like victory.

Tastes like victory.

Yeah, I am definitely,
definitely going to get my 60,

but don't tell anybody.
It's gonna be a surprise.

No, the back straps
are actually fantastic.

- Yeah.
- Oh my gosh, I know.

And they peel all the way down.

Yeah, man.

Cottonmouth queen.

Hell, yeah.
This is the best day ever.

All right, night three,
and we're actually on
dry ground,

which is super awesome.

Got a little lean-to
action going here.

Nice y'all snuggled up.

Jeff rockin' rollin'
over there. Got a little
fire digs.

Definitely better off
than what we were

the past few nights. So...

Fingers crossed we could
just get some good sleep and

start the day off good tomorrow.

But, you never know
with the bayou. So, we'll see.

All right, jeff is over here.

And he is not feeling good
at all. His belly hurts.

We're not sure
if it's the snake,

the water or just the general
conditions out here.

Poor guy can't catch a break.

Jeff's been throwing up and
dry heaving and throwing up,

and it is painful to watch.

Come on, louisiana!
Is that all you've got?

God, I hate this.

Insertion day, baby!

Snake right here.

This is crazy.

Throughout
the 60-day legends challenge,

each team will be evaluated
on a new scale,

the xls or xl success metric,

which calculates their likely
percentage of completing

the 60 days together as a team.

Only three days
into the challenge,

matt's ability to hunt
has been hampered

by a nasty bacterial infection.

I can't go wade
through the swamp.

I can't go
into some of these areas.

That weighs on me heavily.

And ryan's struggle
with hydration

could lead to more
serious matters.

We're not even a week
into the challenge.

Both of my partners
are having problems.

As a result, their team
xls plummets to 36%.

To get the shelter
materials they need,

gary made a bold,
but risky decision.

That is so sketchy.

And amber's first shot at
a gator was thwarted

by max's lack of teamwork.

He immediately wanted to
take over.

With these signs
of possible clashes

in the future.

Their team xls ticks
down from 54 to 41%.

For e.J, sarah and suzanne,

differing opinions have slowed
their shelter progress.

Oh!

Plus, you can't do that.
You're pushing this that way.

All right, calm down.

There's no way I'm going to be
able to go 60 days, with that.

But e.J.'s ability
to secure their first protein

of the challenge
provides a major boost.

Whoo! We eat tonight!

Their xls rises
slightly from 47% to 52%.

And after two nights
of ravenous bugs

and rising waters...

God help us.

...Steven, jeff and lacey

found new hope at a second camp.

First dinner.

But now,
a sudden illness has jeff

struggling once again.

As a result, their xls
drops from 34% to 22%.

Come on, louisiana.
Is that all you've got?

God, I hate you.

Really?

Yes, sir.

I feel absolutely awful.

I can hope that it's a reaction

to all my mosquito bites.

Hopefully.

Because if it's the snake,
or the water, then, you know,

I don't want my teammates to
have to deal with this crap.

Gosh, I feel miserable.

Louisiana sucks.
I mean, it just sucks.

Amber! The line's tugging.

Is it?

- Is it really?
- -yeah, I saw the line tug.

Is there anything on there?

- Let's go.
- Oh, I got a bite.

- Pull hard!
- Oh yeah!

Amber got a fish.

Oh! I got a catfish!

Oh, man.

First catfish, right here!

- Let's go!
- Holy hell!

Oh my god! I'm so happy!

I'm feeling
so excited right now.

I'm loving this moment.

And I feel so proud
to feed these boys.

And if we can stay on this
pattern of catching a fish

every other day or every day,
we're going to make it

to 60 days
and we're going to be strong.

And that's what's important,

is getting my partners across
that finish line.

Or they're going to be
carrying me, either way.

I feel like it's christmas.

It's easy to get down.

We hadn't eaten for three days.

Crispy catfish.

Freakin stoked.
She has been putting

in the work to get us fed.

And she's, she brought food
to the table.

And now we're eating, you know,

I'm just utterly thankful.

Cheers, everybody.

Here's to good eating
in the swamp.

Right.

How's it tasting?

Incredible.

Oh, god, I could
feel it going in my system.

Right already, you know?

Wow.

I feel like a new man.

Are we currently eating
the eyeballs or what?

Get it, gary.

Every meal and calorie counts
out here. Everything counts.

You can eat these eyeballs,
they're a good source of zinc.

And natural salts. There we go.

I think I'll just pluck it
right out with my teeth.

Delicioso.

Amber, do you want an eyeball?

Sure.

Do you want to cut it out?

Or you just want to pluck
it out with your teeth?

I'll pluck it out with my teeth.

Really?

Gary conned you into that one.

How are you feeling?
Just getting some rest?

Yeah, it's the same nausea,
like the same,

- like nauseous feeling.
- Yeah.

That water,
I just drank so much of it.

And I was still dry.

Yeah.

So, ryan has been
having a lot of problems

drinking this water and right
now he is not looking good.

Not really sure what's
going on with this water

and how my body
is reacting to it.

It doesn't quench
my thirst at all.

It makes it very,
very frustrating.

I'm out here to make a home,

to live here in the
atchafalaya swamp, 60 days.

Those are my intentions.
That's what I'm here to do.

And this is the first time
I've ever doubted myself

on one of these challenges.

And that's hard for me to admit.

Oh

Are you all right, buddy?

It finally happened.

He's been fighting
throwing up for days.

This is not good.

And if ryan can't control this,

dehydration is a huge issue.

To throw up
and not be able to hydrate,

that's super, super dangerous.

That will take you out.

No, no.

I know.

This is an issue.

Right here, right here.

Watch out. Watch out.

Back up, back up.

Sixty days is a long time.

If you don't have
the skills to be out here,

the swamp will smell you out.

Whoa, whoa, he went under,
I can't see him no more.

Go, go, go.

There is a gator on that line.

One, two, three!

Oh, his penis.
You're gonna eat that?

So, I don't give a

I'll eat maggoty food
in front of you guys.

Because I'm a hard-headed

I don't want to feel
like a sidekick.

It is freezing.

Really?

Get out!

Come on, louisiana.
Is that all you've got?

I am not going to give up.
I will cross the finish line.

I will leave the swamp a legend.

Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.
