Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing (2023–…): Season 1, Episode 3 - Africa's Most Dangerous Snakes - full transcript

A deadly snake could take Matt out of the challenge; the survivalists' tracking skills are tested as they scramble to recover the remaining caches before their competition; Gary and Waz hatch a plan to coax Stacey into sending Jef...

[Cheeny] This is different.

[Steven] This is something
we've never done before.

[Matt] You gotta watch your
back for not just animals this time,

but for the other survivalists.

Run!

Yeah!

[Gurgling]

[Narrator] For
the first time ever,

12 of Naked and Afraid's
most skilled survivalists

are competing
head-to-head for 45 days

in the South African bush...

Whoo! [Laughs]

[Narrator] ...To crown
the best of the best...

Yeah!

[Narrator] ...And win $100,000.

This is what I live for!

I will do anything
to win this challenge.

[Narrator] Failure
means elimination.

Don't bitch about
[Bleep] losing.

[Narrator] Only one
will reach the end...

[Jeff] This
challenge is so real.

[Narrator] ...And will
be the last one standing.

Previously on last one standing,

a pack formed to stop Jeff
from hoarding all the items.

When there's a weasel
stealing eggs, you now,

we gotta split the
basket up a little bit.

Dude! Hell yeah!

[Narrator] After a
tough migration hike...

[Groans]

[Narrator] ...The survivalists
arrive at zone two...

- [Grunts]
- This one's a fun one, huh?

[Narrator] ...And scramble
to find a new set of assets.

[Waz] Now it's just a race

who can find this survival tool.

[Steven] It's a race
against the clock.

[Narrator] Steven and
Sarah managed to score

their first item,
the fishing kit.

I think I found it!

[Narrator] But their win
can come at a huge cost.

[Jeff] Right now
I could eliminate

two of my competitors.

Right now.

Well, this is one
of those moments.

If I toss their
pot in the river,

they'd never see it again...

And they wouldn't
be able to boil water.

But...

I'm gonna let Steven
and Sarah have this one.

Come down to day 42,
things might be different.

- That was brutal.
- [Sarah groans]

I think I just wanna
get back over there.

[Steven laughs] Okay.

[Narrator] Steven
and Sarah have found

the first survival cash

in zone two.

There are seven
cashes remaining.

[Matt] We're
trying to figure out

where one of these cashes are.

I don't know if it's in
a tree, if it's in a hole,

what it is.

[Narrator] Matt, Dan and Wes

are searching this
wooded environment

marked by porcupine
symbols on their map

to track four hidden cashes.

Continue down this one.

This one looks
the most plausible.

The three of us are plotting

to figure out how
to find these cashes

after Jeff had tried to go out
and take every single cash.

Interesting kind of camaraderie

and competitiveness

to make sure that one person

doesn't monopolize it all.

Just gonna circle through here.

What we don't know is
exactly what we're gonna find.

We have no idea
what really lies ahead.

We don't know what
the item looks like.

None of the above.

We should be seeing
some sort of sign.

Track those
porcupines somewhere.

Somewhere in this vicinity.

- [Wes] Hold it.
- [Matt] You got something?

[Wes] Uh, two porcupine quills.

Three.

I keep going forward,
keep finding quills.

Doing what I do in the
woods when I'm hunting.

- One comes up this hill, too.
- [Matt] Could help us.

[Wes] Come on.

I see another one here.

[Dan] Oh, yeah, yeah.

[Matt] Good eye.

If we can't see another one...

Then we are

- tracking it where it started.
- Backwards.

[Dan] In my life at
home I'm a biologist.

I have a lot of
general knowledge

of plants and
animals and all that,

and understand a
lot of the behaviors

and complexities of
the ecosystems out here,

which, really, when you
understand that kind of thing,

it offers a lot of opportunities

so you can capitalize
on the environment

a little bit better.

We're getting
back into the open.

[Dan] Just keep going.

I think we're
going the right way.

[Jeff] While I'm out looking
for the item near the river,

Stacey is gonna get camp
started, get camp going.

And hopefully it's
a celebratory night

around the campfire tonight.

The map shows four
rocks piled together.

It shows it's near
the water's edge.

Those are the visual clues.

What is happening?

It's frustrating,
because there is

literally 10,000
different places

something could be hidden.

I'm not stopping,
I'm not quitting.

I know I'm close.

I know I'm close.

[Stacey] So, I chose
this little dome land.

Ground is relatively flat.

There's lots of vines overhead,

so, um, we could probably
make some sort of shelter.

Jeff is, um, off adventuring.

He's out there gallivanting,
looking for items.

Hoping that I can
get this fire cranking.

That's about it.

[Waz] Yeah, so, as
I'm looking for hooks,

I look upstream and I
see Steven and Sarah.

They look like
they're looking for...

For the same
thing I'm looking for.

[Narrator] With one
set of fishing assets

found by Steven and Sarah,

two remain on the river.

[Steven] On top of that one.

[Waz] This is a group effort

of how we work
together against Jeff

and find an item.

[Whistles]

I'm trying to
communicate with Steven.

It's just through whistles.

But the water's so loud.

[Steven grunts]

That one!

[Waz sighs]

Absolutely amazing.

Yeah!

No way!

He found it.

[Bleep]

[Waz] There's another one.

[Steven] Nice! My man! [Laughs]

I'm glad that he had success,

mainly to make sure
Jeff doesn't get it.

Whoo!

I found two sets
of fishing hooks.

Got eight hooks, two
reels, bunch of line.

I know there's gonna
be catfish in this water.

I know we're gonna
be able to get bait.

So this is food for the week.

That's awesome.

[Jeff] Another
one bites the dust.

[Matt] Dan, you
wanna try to walk it up...

- Backtrack that way?
- [Dan] Backtrack it?

Sure.

[Matt] I don't see
any signs here.

The risk for reward is that we
spend way too many calories

and don't find this item.

But that's a risk we're taking.

I don't see anything this way.

[Wes] Oh, there's
one over by this rock.

- [Matt] Yeah. They're standing up.
- [Dan] Nice.

[Wes] All right, got
another one. Here you go.

- That one up there?
- Oh, there's one here.

All right, we gotta be
closing in on this, guys.

[Matt] We're following
these porcupine quills.

And African porcupines

have these large, hollow quills.

And that is a telltale sign
that there's a porcupine.

Strategically, this
leads us from one spot

to another spot to another spot.

And I know I can track an animal

anywhere on the planet.

[Dan] Gotta be around
here somewhere.

There's no more trail, really.

Is it right there?

- There is! Yeah!
- [Wes] Right there.

- God dang.
- This time we win, bitches.

[Sighs] And after a
hell of a long walk,

we're victorious.

Oh, looks like a
wildebeest hide.

[Dan] No!

- Oh...
- Couple wildebeest hides.

Oh, my God, thank God.

I've been really worried about

Cheeny in the cold,
guys, you know?

She got a medical
condition that makes it bad.

Oh, if right now she's
cramping up, it's probably due to

- all those cold nights.
- Yeah.

Hey.

Guys. Okay.

And it's a, uh...

Ah, yes!

Shoes!

Two pelts, three of us.

Wes and I, we can
split it, each have a half,

and that way you
keep a full hide,

you keep both of you warm.

Absolutely.

You okay with that, Wes?

I'm absolutely fine with that.

Okay, Cheeny and I
are cuddling tonight.

Good. Yeah.

[Dan] Of all the items
out here, a hide is

one of the most important
things I can imagine

'cause it is freaking
cold out here at night.

And when that's happening,

you're losing an immense
amount of calories.

You're starting to shiver,
trying to stay warm.

And it's not the
kind of calories

you wanna lose out here,

especially when your
next meal is not secured.

But with this hide,

it's an absolute game-changer.

That's gonna cover
you up pretty darn good.

Oh, my gosh.

[Matt] For me, that hide's
gonna be some warmth.

These super-cold nights
are very hard to get through.

Amber got taken
out with hypothermia.

It's the real threat.

Any one of us could get
taken out if you're not prepared.

So this hide, it's gonna
set me up for success

as I go forward.

Well, let's get back and
then we'll plan on doing this

- all over again in the morning.
- Okay.

- Yup.
- That's good.

[Wes] We're gonna meet
back up in the morning

and we're gonna go look
for the other two cashes.

If we can find
something similar,

that would be just awesome.

Especially since I don't
have any fish hooks.

I'm sure if I gave a
hide to somebody,

they would be more than
happy to give me a fish hook.

[Matt] Some things you
can share, and other things...

Like, we can't share this
among the whole thing.

Nobody would have a
good enough piece left.

[Wes] Right.

Real slippery right
here, so be careful.

[Sarah] Wanna try
going across this, then?

- [Steven] Yeah.
- Okay.

[Narrator] With the three
fishing assets obtained,

Steven and Sarah
now focus their attention

on crossing back over
the class-two rapids.

[Steven] You gotta get
back across the river,

with your bag and
your tools and your stuff.

It's insane, the
amount of calories

and energy we've put into this.

It's exhausting.

It's incredibly dangerous.

I mean, it's white water.

These waters are
moving incredibly fast.

It's easy to slip,
and once you slip

you're going as
fast as that river is.

There's still a big
rock right here.

[Sarah] Yup.

That's deep right there.

Whoa! You good?

Whoa.

Oh, my God, he got
all the way down there.

Whoo!

Man, I picked a wrong route.

I mean, I went from zero
to, like, 30 miles an hour,

naked, getting bashed
on rocks and boulders.

I don't pucker up a whole lot,

but I tell you what, I could
have made a diamond

going down that river.

Fire starter's still there.
All right, I got everything.

Whoo! That was crazy.

The good lord
looking after me today.

What you got, bro?

Got four hooks.

Got, like, 20 pound mono.

So when you were on
the other side of the river,

I had a conversation
with the good angel

and the devil on
my shoulders there.

Could have chucked
the pot into the river

and no one ever would
have seen it again.

[Steven] I should thank
you for being a good person?

[Exhales slowly]

[Sighs]

Jeez.

He made it very aware to me that

he didn't grab my stuff
and chuck it in the river,

and how thankful I should
be that he didn't do it.

That's sketch, dude.

I know Jeff. I've known
him for a long time.

I've lived with him
for, you know, 60 days

in Louisiana swamps.

I mean, I'm not judging
a book by its cover.

I'm judging a book that I read.

And that's it.

[Jeff laughs]

Any crocs over there?

Yes.

Sarah's doing the smart move

and going upstream a little bit.

Yeah, you're doing great!

Yeah!

[Sarah] This has been a
large expenditure of calories,

and I'm certainly exhausted.

Let's go find shelter.

[Sarah] All right.

The light's gonna be fading soon

and we still need to find camp.

We go up into the
more shrubby area

so we can try to find
an area that's going to be

a little shelter for the night.

[Steven] See that big-ass tree?

- [Sarah] Yeah.
- Straight ahead.

[Steven] It's very
similar to our last one.

We literally have five of these,

like, almost willow
trees that are interwoven,

which will give us some
natural cover from the elements.

So this is our best bet.

[Sarah] We'll probably
be lifting up these vines,

if not hacking them.

And then having the fire,
like, kind of in the middle.

[Steven] Do you
wanna do that tonight,

or do you wanna do that
first thing in the morning

and just cowboy camp in it here?

It's just I'm exhausted.

We can take the time tomorrow.

[Sarah] Yeah, okay.

Yeah. I need to sit down.

Yeah, sit down.

It's been a long day.

- So, water, fire.
- [Sarah] Yeah.

[Cheeny sighs]

Feeling better now and
I really wanna get going.

[Dan] You okay, Cheens?

[Cheeny] No, I have
a wicked cramp.

The faster I walk,
the more I cramp up.

[Sighs] Feeling it now.

[Narrator] After being hit
by severe muscle cramps

during the migration...

Cheeny was forced
to stay behind at camp

while Dan searched
for survival items.

- [Dan] Cheeny!
- [Cheeny] Hey!

[Dan] The cramps go away?

[Cheeny sighs]
But no, I feel better.

I had to lay down
for, like, 20 minutes.

[Dan] Cool.

I'm just working on a fire.

Whoo!

[Dan] It's a huge
sense of relief.

I was really worried
about Cheeny

because, you know, if one
of us taps, both of us taps.

All these people out here

fighting to win $100,000.

And if something
like that takes you out,

that's gonna be drama.

Look! Got a whole hide.

[Cheeny] Wildebeest?

- Yeah. Wildebeest hide.
- Ooh.

[Cheeny] Dan comes
back with a wildebeest pelt,

which is amazing.

A wildebeest pelt
goes a long, long way.

Yeah. Me and the
cold, we don't get along.

[Dan] All right, we got
one of the migrations done.

That excursion
was totally worth it,

to not have our shelter
overhead for one night,

because this is now
our shelter for tonight.

[Cheeny] Yeah. We'll
just cowboy camp.

[Dan] Cheeny and I probably have

the least body fat
of anybody out here,

and to get through
these cold nights

for 40-something days,

a hide...

[Scoffs] Absolutely amazing.

Especially if we
don't wanna spend

an intense amount of energy

trying to make a shelter in
every single new location.

Big spoon or little spoon?

- We can trade off.
- [Laughs]

I like to be the big spoon
but we can trade off.

Cool.

We got fire.

I'd say I'm happy.

I got that rock on the back.

That reflects the heat big-time.

Waz!

I got some great news for you.

[Gary] Did you get to the water?

[Waz] So, not only
did I get to the water.

I was working my way out,

and got a couple
of little fishing hooks.

[Gary] All right!

[Waz] So, I got
eight hooks, two reels

and a bunch of line.

Definitely gonna let
other people use them.

I'm not gonna sit there

holding on to
eight fishing hooks

when there's other
people that could be fishing

at the same time. That
doesn't make any sense.

So I wanna be a
little bit strategic

in relation to working
together in a group,

so now I'm in a better
position to win this.

[Gary] There we go.

We'll hunker down for the
night here, bare minimum.

Me and you lie on
each side of this.

Our log fire right here.

We should be good for the night.

Cruising.

That rock looks similar.

That's what I saw earlier.

Maybe I didn't search these
rocks here good enough.

It's gotta be right in here.

[Groans] This is nuts.

I've been searching my ass off.

[Groans] It's frustrating.

I think it's hidden
within the rocks,

and that's why
I haven't seen it.

Come on.

What is happening?

I'm gonna call it and,
uh, come back tomorrow.

Today was exhausting.

Stacey!

Jeff?

Did you find the item?

[Jeff] No, I did not, but I
worked so hard for that.

[Stacey] I believe you.

[Jeff] Stacey found a
wonderful camp here.

I'm loving this.

I think this is fantastic,

and I think this is
all gonna work out.

I'm feeling optimistic.

Holy crap, what a day.

Uh, I searched everywhere
down by the river

for that survival tool,

and I know I must
have stepped over it

probably 15 freaking times.

I'm gonna go explore tomorrow.

[Jeff] Yeah.

[Thunder rumbles]

[Jeff] Yeah, there's definitely
thunder in the distance.

Are you worried
about the thunder?

[Jeff] We'll be just fine.

Whatever comes,
we're ready for it.

[Thunder continues]

Ooh, lightning.

It's not gonna
rain, I'm telling you.

[Sarah] It's kind of a
gamble to cowboy camp.

When we can all put in
about 20% more effort

in the beginning of
building this shelter,

we would be 80% more comfortable

in case it rains for the night.

Well, I'm gonna
be so [bleep] pissed

if it starts raining.

Well, then have
some positive attitude

and wish it doesn't rain.

I can't change the weather.

[Steven] But you cannot
put bad vibes out there.

[Sarah] I'm gonna trust you.

[Steven] Thank you. You should.

This isn't my first rodeo.

[Sarah groans]

[Thunder rumbles]

This is the worst part
of Naked and Afraid.

Cold and wet,

and naked,

and in the middle of nowhere.

We got a big fire
going right now.

But if we lose this, it's
instant hypothermia.

[Matt] You can hear it.

I am sitting under
a tiny little bit of hide

that I stuck over my head

to just keep my head dry.

Just have to hunker down,

and you hope to not
get hit by lightning.

The biggest roar in
Africa is not the lion...

[Lightning cracks]

[Matt] ...But the thunder.

[Jeff] We're gonna
take the oryx hide

and we're gonna lay this up here

above the fire.

Fire is life.

Protect the fire,
protect our life.

[Jeff sighs]

Waz and I are here.

[Waz] Just protecting the fire.

Protecting our fire.

[Waz] The thunder is
some of the loudest thunder

I've ever heard in my
life. It's ridiculous out here.

Yeah, it's coming down.

Lightning, thunder,
pouring rain.

[Bleep]

[Jeff speaking]

[Stacey speaking]

Barely. Barely made it.

[Jeff] I think we both got

more sleep last
night than any night.

[Sarah] You did.
Speak for yourself.

I don't like how the shelter is.

We've got the hide, but what
if we didn't have the hide?

We would be totally s-o-l.

And he's oblivious
to how pissed off I am.

He's just dead-set
on finding that item.

Maybe we should put
up some sort of shelter

so we're not
torturing ourselves.

[Jeff] We don't need it.

So we're gonna
just keep using the...

- Yeah, I think we should...
- Pelt?

probably keep using the pelt,

'cause no matter how much
foliage we get on that roof,

when it rains hard, it's
just gonna come through.

I'm gonna keep
the same strategy.

Focus on the survival items.

And if that means a
couple cold, rainy nights

without a roof over
my head, so be it.

Let's make our way
down to the river.

I'm gonna keep searching.

- All right, partner?
- [Stacey] All right.

Whoo! Got a mother lode.

That should be more
than enough for us,

for sure.

You know, the storm,
you know, surprised me.

You know?

[Sarah] I'm glad
to see that Steven

really seemed to take
my "20% more effort

for 80% more
comfort" talk to heart.

Because lack of sleep

is honestly one of the
worst things out here.

It drags you down mentally,
emotionally, physically,

and, really, it's one of
the things that makes sure

that you're not gonna
succeed in a challenge.

I'm building more of a lattice,

uh, over the shelter,

so that we can
cover a larger area.

That'll help keep the
rain out and the heat in.

It looks so much better today.

I'm very glad that that's
the call that we made.

It makes me feel so much
better about the situation.

I'd rather spend a
majority of the day

taking care of this
than, you know...

[Sarah] Having to suffer
through the night again.

Yeah.

[Matt] Day eight, not
a lot of food been had,

and people are gonna
start getting real hungry

and real weak.

But the good news is

I can see that our philosophy

to how we're wanting to do this

is, uh... is coming together.

We know Jeff is struggling,

so right now,

it's time to get on the hunt.

To the east

is a meadow area

that looks like it
would be good game,

and so I'm gonna start
there and do some exploring.

To hunt is something
that's acquired

through years of
training, years of practice.

It's not something
you can read in a book

and just go out and do it.

You have to actually
actively figure it out.

Hey, guys, guys, guys, guys.

Shh.

There's another rat.

Oh, just popped
his head out again.

[Man] Yeah, yeah.

[Matt] Bingo.

[Man] You have
got to be kidding me.

Who are you?

I swear you could shoot
stuff with your eyes closed.

Something about...

About 500 yards,

there's a herd of impala.

It rained last night.

I'm seeing some tracks came out

since the rain.

They're coming down

into this... into this area.

What I need to do is find
a spot to ambush them.

Feeling savage.

Flies are landing
on me, I'm so still.

Get on.

[Wes] Where you at, Dan?

[Dan] Hey, you heading out?

[Wes] Yeah, if you feel
like going on walkabout.

All right, I'm gonna
come with you.

Did the hide help
out last night?

[Dan] It did. Help you out, too?

[Wes] Oh, my gosh. It would've
been a nightmare without it.

[Dan] Right? Couldn't have
happened at a better moment.

So, this would be the first
corner of the porcupine area.

- I mean, we're in the zone.
- So now we just...

- [Wes] Walk and look?
- Walk around.

- Okay. Good luck.
- Perfect. Same to you.

[Narrator] There were
four survival cashes

hidden within this
dense environment.

With two cashes found,

Dan and Wes search
for signs of porcupines

to find the remaining two.

[Wes] Uh, our strategy is to
look in two different places.

He's gonna look down
elevation just a little bit,

and I'm gonna look up elevation.

[Dan] Close to something.

I hope.

Jeff's strategy is obviously

to get to all the cashes first,

and hoard all the things
and try to barter with people.

My strategy, basically,

is to try to get to some
of these before Jeff.

[Wes] I love hunting.

If I can just find
the first quill,

or a drop of blood,
then I'm off to the races.

I don't see anything.

And I know we're in the zone.

Yesterday we
tracked the porcupine

by finding a big
group of quills,

and then from there

searching a trail of quills.

Here we're not
finding any at all.

Damn it.

Wind is coming
strong up the valley.

So have to use that

for as much of my
advantage as possible.

One person can take a
whole meadow full of animals

and make it disappear.

Because if they smell you,

you know, the gig is over.

There's some impala.

You can see them
right up in the bank.

[Softly] Into the shadow.

The tree's our backdrop.

[Footsteps crunch]

[Sighs]

[Grunts]

[Sighs]

[Wes] Dan!

[Dan] Yeah?

[Wes] You find anything?

[Dan] I got nothing.

[Wes] Nothing over here.

[Dan] Nothing?

The one we found yesterday,

the trail we found yesterday,

was all the way down
here in the gorge.

Makes me think it's
just this general area.

I'm walking concentric
circles around that area,

I'm not finding anything at all.

[Wes] Everything that
we looked at, followed,

all signs pointed
to it being here.

But it could be somewhere else.

I'm coming to you, buddy.
I'm getting frustrated.

You and I have walked
our asses off this area

and we have not seen one quill.

[Dan] Unfortunately this
time we don't find anything.

And we're kinda getting
burnt out. We're tired.

The sun is up, we're hot.

I can't wait to dunk
my body in that river.

[Jeff] The map says,
"search the rocks

to find a survival tool."

This big loop in the river here

is that sandy beach.

Yeah.

The other clues on the map

would be the picture
of these rocks here.

One big one. The
majority in the water.

Two others right next to it.

What do you say we head
to that Boulder up there?

Search that area.

[Stacey] Yeah, let's go look.

[Jeff] This is now our
second day in this location,

and I think today can
be a big day for us.

We work diligently
down by this water today,

I believe I can find this item.

As long as we bust our ass

non-stop all day,
good things will happen.

Let's find this thing.

[Matt] It is a beautiful spot.

The previous location,

its water hole was so nasty

that I wouldn't dare
even wash my face in it.

Besides getting
these thorns out,

I need to bathe a little bit.

The human scent goes
50 meters in every direction,

so I am going to bathe

and get myself as
scent-free as possible

for the next hunt.

- [Jeff] Morning, buddy.
- Good morning.

- How you doing, bud?
- Good.

So, man, at the
porcupine track thing,

were they tucked
in a porcupine hole?

They're hard, hard to see.

The one I saw was, like,

we almost stepped on it.

[Jeff] Oh, wow.

[Matt] I don't know
what the item was,

but I heard this one was gone.

I kinda see the bull [bleep]
coming out of his mouth

before I think he even
finishes his sentence.

Well, we're gonna
look, 'cause I heard that

one of those items was
gone in the last location,

and it ended up
being there, so...

Matt does not want me here,

and honestly,
compliments accepted.

That only makes me stronger

and more dedicated
to, uh... To win this thing.

[Sarah] This is tough.

[Jeff] I walked all this a
thousand times yesterday,

which makes me think
it is tucked somewhere.

To be honest, at this point,

I can't really turn my back

and bathe in the water
while they're out scavenging,

because if I sat my stuff
down and started bathing,

they'd try to walk away
with my pride and joy here,

so bathing will have
to wait a little bit.

[Groaning] Come on.

So, there was one thorn.

Try to get them removed
before they create

any more problems.

Any luck?

Nothing.

I'm sweating profusely.

I'm breathing hard.
The sun is hot.

But I can't stop.

Losing is not an
option for me right now.

So, crazy idea.

I just have to throw it to you.

See Matt over there, like,
getting his fish or whatever?

Yeah.

And you see how he left

his bow and his
quiver on the rock?

Yeah.

[Jeff] Would it be
totally crazy to go over,

grab his bow and
quiver and walk away?

[Stacey] Yeah,
that would be crazy.

I just, I don't...

I mean, I bet I
could get this thing.

Could pay off down the line.

It would be easy to do.

You know?

[Stacey] Jeff.

That just says a lot
about his character.

Do not do that.

[Jeff] Could pay
off down the line.

Grab his bow and
quiver and walk away.

[Stacey] That would be crazy.

No! Do not do that.

All right. Crazy idea. Got it.

[Stacey] It's not ethical
to sabotage others'

ability to complete
the challenge

just because you
have a desire to win.

If he would have stole
it then he would have

kind of put my
name on the line too,

and that would've pissed me off.

I wouldn't have
been okay with that.

[Matt] I hate having to
watch over my shoulder.

Jeff does not have the cojones

to try to pull the bow
out of my hand, and, uh,

I think he still would steal it,

so I'm gonna keep him, uh...

Keep him at an arm's distance.

Gotta stay vigilant.

For weasels.

[Jeff] Keeping the peace early

could pay off down the line.

Later on in the
challenge, though,

that may be what we have to do.

[Stacey] I just wanna
go back to camp

to drink some damn
water, that's all.

- It's hot.
- Yeah.

[Jeff] So, another thing
that we can think about,

possibly pitching a
trade with Waz and Gary

for maybe a couple
of fishing hooks

for one of these big
old survival knives.

[Stacey] Well, it's
worth the effort.

But I'm the one that
no one trusts out here.

Would you feel
comfortable bringing it up?

[Waz] He turns
and says to Stacey,

"we wanna try and get a
couple of hooks for this knife,

but I'm not the trusted one.

Here, why don't
you take the knife

and you bring it up
in conversation?"

And I heard the whole thing.

It needs to be a
trade for both teams.

I think it's a win-win.

- I'll ask him.
- Okay.

[Jeff] I know that Waz
found two sets of fish hooks

and fishing line,

so he has more than he needs,

and we happen to have

a survival knife
that we don't need.

It just makes sense

that we were to do
some type of formal trade.

I already ruffled
Waz's feathers once,

and I learned he
doesn't like trades.

Oh, shoot, you
guys are right there.

[Waz] He didn't know
I was laying there.

He didn't know that
I could hear them.

Jeff knew that he'd been caught.

He's starting to realize

that the things that he's saying

versus the things
that he's doing

aren't matching up,
and everyone can see it.

You guys find that
survival tool, Jeff?

[Jeff] No, sir.

I bet we collectively
put in five hours

between me and Stacey.

- [Waz] That's ridiculous.
- Maybe more.

[Waz] Jesus. Tough one, eh?

And congrats on
getting that fishing gear.

Yeah, so I've got eight hooks.

Each one is, like, a hand reel

with a bunch of line
and four hooks on it.

Wow.

Would you guys
be willing to trade

a couple hooks for a knife?

- I'll let you borrow.
- [Stacey] Okay.

[Jeff] How about
we give you a knife?

- Use it.
- I love the sound of that.

[Jeff] Win this challenge
with it, and, yeah.

- This is a good [bleep] knife.
- [Jeff] dude, it's...

It'll change your
world out here.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

[Stacey] That gifting decision

to give to Waz was totally Jeff.

I was very surprised,

because it seems like

sometimes Jeff
won't do something

unless he's gonna
get a payoff from it.

[Waz] I'll give you
a couple hooks,

as much line as you need.

- That's amazing. Thank you.
- [Waz] Yeah.

Thank you.

[Waz] He's got this mindset of

what he thinks is gonna
win this competition.

What he doesn't realize is

he's playing checkers
and I'm playing 3D chess.

I'm trying to win this in a way

that doesn't compromise
who I am as a human.

Anything outside
of that that I can do

to take home that
money, I'm gonna do.

[Jeff] Thanks for
your energy, man.

Yeah, thanks, Waz.
We appreciate you.

- It feels good. Thanks, Waz.
- [Waz] Yeah, thanks.

[Jeff] I've invested
so much time already.

Can't quit now.

So I'm gonna go and continue

and search for this
advanced survival tool.

[Stacey] Okay.

[Jeff] It's day three
in this location

and we haven't
found anything yet.

I can't quit now.

Every item is gonna
help us long-term

to win this challenge.

I'm going to just go check
out the porcupine tracks.

- Mmm.
- And just see...

And just do a little
bit of exploring.

[Jeff] Mmm-hmm.

[Stacey speaking]

[Jeff] Um...

[Stacey] Jeff's been rolling
around with the map the whole time.

I mean, it's like pulling teeth

to get him to let
me have the map.

Like, all right, let me memorize

the paces real quick

and kind of get a general
idea of where I'm going,

and then I'll just wander around

until I find something, maybe.

[Jeff] So, I've got the map.

- All right. Another day.
- Yeah.

[Stacey] He's taking the map

to go look for his item,

and I am seeking out a
hidden item all by myself

based on intuition
and memory only.

No map.

I don't know how I'm gonna do,

but I'm gonna give it a go.

I memorized how many
strides it would take me

to get to the intersection

where the porcupine
tracks would start.

It was 150 paces.

I counted to 124 paces.

I'm gonna just
keep going this way,

and just look around.

I think that I'm pretty
underestimated.

Jeff does perceive me as
a lesser-skilled survivalist,

someone with
less hours out here,

less experience.

But I want to win this thing.

Oh, look! We found a couple.

That feels good.

There's another one.

I'm trying to establish
some independence

from my partnership with Jeff,

and it does feel like
I'm on the right track.

This is a tough one.
This is a really tough one.

What I know from

river ecosystems like this

is the water levels
change drastically.

So before, I was assuming

that these rocks and
the item was in the river.

But now that might
not be the case.

I can't find this item anywhere.

I mean, I am reaching
my hand in holes

that would scare the
[bleep] out of most people.

I've walked this entire area.

And I know it's here. I know it.

This is crazy.

Come on.

Walked this so many times.

It's insane.

It's absolutely insane.

This is interesting.

I don't know if
I lost the track.

It seems like it stopped here.

I'm looking for a porcupine
quill to lead me further.

Where are you?

That last quill just stops
at that clearing over there.

I'm not even sure if
I'm in the right spot,

and I'm not seeing anything.

I would suspect I would see
some quills or something trailing me.

Brain's not the best out
here on minimal food.

It doesn't work like normal.

Here's another one.

Duh.

Oh! I think I found something.

Ow! Ow! There's lots of thorns.

Ah! It's tearing my flesh.

Ah! [Bleep]

Oh! Found something.

Ow! Ow!

There's lots of thorns.

Ah! It's tearing my flesh.

Got it!

Oh, look at that.

This is gonna help with
the next survival challenge.

We can cut really
big trees with this.

Feels good to do
something on my own.

It's a huge confidence boost, realizing
that I was able to find that with no map.

Jeff's always... like, he's just
go, go, go. Wants to be the one.

He likes to step in
and be at the forefront,

and people like me won't see
any of that glory unless they step up

and do it by themselves.

I feel a new element of
confidence and power within myself,

and it is glorious.

I am here to win.

[Waz] Just surveying to
see if there are any rocks

that kind of match the picture.

This is a picture of three big
rocks sticking up out of the water.

So that's a literal symbol.

I might look for a bigger rock that
looks like the top half of a sphere.

Maybe I'm pushing rocks around
to find something down underneath.

This morning, I'm gonna
go look for the survival item

that's still outstanding
down by the water.

- What's up, buddy? How you doing, man?
- Oh, never better.

- [Waz] You looking for this thing?
- [Dan] Yeah.

- [Waz] You wanna put our brains together?
- [Dan] Yeah, I'd love to.

[Waz] All right.

It's great to see Dan.

Must have spent 50 days
with him in the Amazon.

You know, him and I
are very similar in survival.

We approach it as a mental game,

and we try and look for
the bright side of things.

And we're gonna put
our brains together

and try and see if we can
find this thing a little bit quicker.

This rock over
here, at that angle,

kind of looked like
the one in the picture.

I think we might have to
push back this way a little bit.

This one's a fun one, huh?

[Dan] Jeff is
rolling through here.

We know his game
is to just get out there

and collect everything
he possibly can.

So I'm a little worried
about him being on our tails.

[Waz] Jeff, what do you reckon,
where's the shoreline on this picture?

- I've only looked at this map hours.
- Yeah, no doubt.

It's this color here.
These are the rocks.

Which makes me think
maybe it's on a rock in the river.

When I got these fishing hooks,

they were all on top of
rocks outside of the water,

and the rocks looked like that.

- Literal...
- Okay.

- I was thinking that, too.
- Okay.

[Waz] So if that's literal, we have
rocks almost stacked on top of each other

- in a pile.
- [Jeff] Yeah. Interesting.

[Waz] I just laid out everything
that I thought, everything that I knew.

That's part of me planting
seeds in the back of his head

that it does not matter what
he does, what he knows.

I'm happy to share all
my information with you.

You do not worry
me one little bit,

and that I could just go and find
that survival tool and walk away with it.

Well, good luck, guys.

My strategy for searching today

is to assume that I've been
searching in the wrong location.

So today, I'm going
a little bit downriver

by about, you know,
40 meters or so.

And I'm searching a new
grid, a new search location.

I know I'm close.

All right. This one's my next
target. The big one over here.

This is very similar to the
picture that we've seen, the icon.

Yeah, I got it.

I can see it in
there, but it's deep.

I'm a bit anxious at this
point because I see it,

I know it's in there, but I
can't get my hands on it.

I cannot fit up
and into that gap.

Dan might have to
get this one for me.

Jeff could run over and
potentially grab this thing.

[Whistles]

Ugh.

I put out a 50%-volume whistle,

and luckily Dan heard me.

Hey, Dan, I need
you to grab this.

I don't think I can
fit in this hole, buddy.

I'll get in the hole.

If you go up under there,
you can see the burlap.

Something's wrapped up in that.

[Dan grunts]

I'm waist-deep into this hole under
this giant Boulder. A little sketchy.

But I'm able to grab it.

- I got it.
- You got it?

[Jeff] Good job, buddy!

- [Bleep] Yeah.
- [Dan grunts]

I don't think anyone
but me could fit in here.

[Waz] Well, I'm glad
you're here, man.

[Cheers]

- Good job.
- Thank you, man,

[whistles]

Right there? It was right there?

- Under this big one.
- [Jeff] Oh, man.

Of course he did.

I could cry right now.

[Waz] That's a knife.

This is exactly where I was
searching the whole time.

[Waz] I know Jeff spent a lot of
hours out here, looking for this thing,

so it's a pretty good feeling.

That's that 3D chess
that I'm talking about.

He walks away from that,

even if it's just a seed
planted in the back of his head-

"hang on a minute. This
guy told me all the information.

I've already been down here.
I know this land inside and out.

And now this guy finds it. Maybe
I'm not as good as I think I am."

Do you guys don't have a knife?

I got a knife yesterday. You
guys don't have one. Take it.

- Are you sure?
- [Waz] Yeah. What do I need two knives for, bro?

[Dan] Thank you.

Waz already has a knife, so
he gives it back, which is great.

Now Cheeny and I have
two knives between us.

Any new, sharp, little thing
like that out here is really nice.

Well, cool how that works out.

We gave you the knife
yesterday, you gave us the hooks.

- Yeah.
- [Jeff] Dan got this knife today

- because all that happened.
- [Waz] Yeah.

Yep.

Everything works out the
way it's meant to, buddy.

[Jeff] Yes, I didn't
find the item,

and honestly, if I would
have gotten another knife,

the target on my back
would have just gotten bigger

because I'd be trying
to trade that thing.

- [Waz] Another successful morning, Dan.
- [Dan] Yeah.

- [Waz] I'm not mad about it.
- [Dan] Knocking them out.

[Matt] Keep myself
from being seen as much.

Rubbing some nice
charcoal on the thigh, all over.

Trying to give myself as
many shadows as possible.

It's gonna help.

So, yesterday, I went
out and hunted a little bit.

I did get a shot, and
I missed the impala.

Naked guy with no camo.

Problem solved.

But you can never give up.
You gotta keep on it. I need food.

All right. Let's
get on the hunt.

- [Wes] Hey, Dan. Let's go fishing.
- [Dan] Yeah, let's do it.

[Wes] I know there's
a big pond out there,

and hopefully fish,
like some bass.

It's worth checking out.

I've been going after the
second porcupine cache.

Having zero success.

I'm getting slow. I don't
wanna go this way much longer

'cause I know I'll
go downhill quick.

And I could really
use some food,

so Dan and I are going fishing.

[Dan] Someone was just here.

Some barefoot person.

[Whispers] Got a herd
impala right up here.

Wind is coming at me,
about a stiff 10 miles an hour.

I'm camo'd up. I'm downwind.

I'm gonna try to belly crawl.
See if I can get within range.

Come on.

It's happening. Let's get
savage. Let's get savage.

[Dan] Whoo!

[Matt softly] I've got
two impala in front of me.

[Whispers]

- Something?
- Take it, take it, take it!

[Dan] Yes. Whoo!

[Matt groans] [Bleep]

Goddamnit.

Look at that!

- [Dan laughs]
- [Matt groans] [Bleep]

[Wes] Oh, yeah. We're
getting the fishing done now.

- [Dan] Yeah!
- [Wes] Look at that little guy.

- [Wes and Dan whooping]
- Hard to get my savagery hunting

[whispers] When there's so
many other people messing it up.

[Wes] Nice one.

[Wes and Dan whooping]

[Matt] Oh. [Groans] [Bleep]

[Dan] Look at that! [Laughs]

[Matt softly] Oh, goddamnit.

I've been silently
stalking through the brush,

hoping not to be
heard, not to be smelled.

[Wes speaking]

And as I'm doing that,
stealthy as I could possibly be,

two of the survivalists out
there, they came in talking loud.

Is hunting the most difficult
thing on Naked and Afraid?

Without a doubt.

Is hunting with nine other people
independently going where they wish?

Yeah. It may be one of the
hardest things on the planet.

But you know what? I've never
given up. I don't plan to give up.

And that's how it works.

[Birds chirping]

[Zebras barking]

I don't often get the map

because Jeff's too selfish to do
anything for anyone else but himself.

And so I took my chances and went
without a map, and it feels really good.

I've been pushing
myself very, very hard,

trying to find all these
items, and I'm exhausted.

[Stacey] I found
one of the items.

- [Jeff] By the porcupine?
- Yep.

I'm surprised, shocked but
not at all unhappy about it.

I feel like it's Christmas.

[Stacey] I know.
That's how I felt, too.

[Jeff] Look at this. Hell, yeah.

- Yeah. It's gonna be nice.
- Great job.

[Stacey] I feel
empowered. I feel...

I feel better when I'm given
the opportunity to work alone.

And that is my saw, and I
can do with it what I want.

I can share it,
or I don't have to.

It's mine.

[Jeff] Wow. Like butter.

This is a huge advantage, especially if we
have to build any type of large construction

later in the challenge.

- This is so awesome.
- Thank you.

[Jeff] This was a huge score.

Do you think it's
gonna rain tonight?

I don't know.

[Stacey] Considering
there's been just so much rain

and so much inclement weather, we
should probably build some sort of shelter.

I'm feeling kind of shot this
morning, so I need to take a few.

- I'll get up and get firewood.
- Cool.

[Stacey] Jeff's
always go, go, go.

I think he's burnt a lot of energy
looking for stuff. I don't know.

Our fates being intertwined.
We'll see how that goes.

We got this bass today.

And this guy.

- Bam, bam, bam.
- [Cheeny] Gonna have a good supper tonight.

- Tilapia out of a murky pond.
- [Dan] Little appetizer of the night.

- Mmm-mmm.
- [Dan] Wow.

Bon appetit.

[Dan] Mmm.

Let's take a look at one
of these pieces of fish here.

Pieces of them falling off.

Mmm. Oh, that's good.

I'm quite excited that
I finally caught a fish.

Oh, yeah.

My body is sucking
up this protein.

I can feel it. I can
feel energy return.

It's exactly what I needed

because this whole
being alone thing-it's tough.

Fish tastes delightful.

[Matt] It's interesting
surviving with all these people.

They're all kind of
out for themselves,

and I consider each person pretty
much their own tribe at this point

because each person is
looking out for themselves.

And it's showing more
and more every day.

[Wes] I think this fish
was a solid pound.

Which means probably
half a pound of meat.

That's a nice-sized tilapia.

And it tastes great.

- [Cheeny] Mmm-mmm.
- [Dan] Mmm-hmm.

[Dan] Mmm. Yum.
These fish are delicious.

- Yeah.
- Mmm.

[Both laugh]

[Laughter continues]

[Matt] It's interesting
that they were out fishing

the same hunting
hole that I have to hunt,

so I have to work in between and around and
try to, like, not get screwed up by them.

I would have assumed at
this point, as they all assumed,

that if I kill, like, an impala,

that we're just
splitting it up evenly.

But yet I have not
seen a piece of fish.

Just a little bite would have
been a nice gesture at this point.

[Sighs] It's frustrating.

[Jeff exhales]

[Whispers]

[Stacey and Jeff speaking]

[Stacey] Yeah.

[Thunder rumbles]

[Dan] Oh, my God.

The storm is here.

I'm so happy we have this hide.

Game-changer. Ooh!

[Stacey] Oh, my God.

[Jeff] Oh, really?

[Stacey speaking]

Oh, no!

Jesus Christ. This
really sucks. [Sighs]

[Stacey sighs]

Jeff got up early this
morning to go fishing.

I was planning
on going with him,

but there was an incident in
the night in which he woke me up.

I needed some extra rest,
so I stayed back and slept.

I am really exhausted.

Nights are not that great.

It's extremely uncomfortable
and very hard to deal with.

[Birds chirping]

[Animals calling]

[Wes] We gonna go find these
porcupine things this morning?

[Dan] Yeah.

- All right. Let's go.
- All right.

Dan and I, we've tracked
porcupines for three days now,

and we haven't
come across anything.

We're both exhausted,
and we're both frustrated.

But I deal with it by
just keeping going.

I plug away.

[Dan] There's only a couple trails
over here that we haven't been on.

Walking these might leads
us to some kind of clue

or might run us into a
trail that started back there

that we could find the
beginning of. What do you think?

Yeah, I'm with you.

Mmm-mmm.

Is this our intersection?

[Narrator] There were four survival caches
hidden within this dense environment.

With three caches
found, one remains.

[Wes] Our cache was up there.

I don't think we're
gonna have to...

- [Dan] Look too far?
- [Wes] Yeah.

[Dan] Awesome.

Somewhere in here is where
Cheeny and I staked something out.

Found one.

I'm so excited because
where there's quills,

then we know that
close by is a cache.

All these items are
stashed in the ground

- just like a porcupine would be hiding in a burrow.
- Yeah.

Dan and I start looking,
searching everywhere.

They're typically ground caches.

[Dan] Makes sense.

It looks like the perfect area.

It really has the setup of
being where the cache is.

Oh, maybe in the trees.

[Dan] I'm gonna
get bit by something.

[Dan] No. Nothing in there.

[Wes] No, nothing here, either.

[Dan] It's gotta be
here, it's gotta be.

[Wes] Absolutely has to be.

Got it!

- [Wes] Sweet!
- Yes!

And then he pops up with it.

- Oh, my God.
- [Laughs]

- Nice teamwork again.
- We did it.

- Oh.
- Let's look what we have.

- Oh, my God.
- I knew one day around here we'd find something.

- Oh, she pretty.
- Oh, look at that bad man with a hammer.

She pretty.

I spent a lot of calories
looking for the axe.

A lot of them.

But now that we have it, it's probably
gonna save calories on the back end

because it's a whole lot easier
to chop down stuff with an axe

than with a machete.

- Whoo!
- Good job, bro.

- Yeah!
- [Bleep]

[Laughs]

- Third time's the charm.
- Uh-huh.

[Wes] Good stuff.

[Dan] Finding that one cache, it
brings a whole new element in.

You know? Do you share
that item? How do you share it?

Are you just giving it to
people, or that kind of thing?

Oof.

- You know what? Just keep this axe.
- Dang. That's awesome.

- Cool.
- Ah. Success!

Sure, I'm gonna
do what I can to win.

But I'm not out here trying
to make life harder for anyone

'cause I'm a group of two, Cheeny
and I, and Matt and Wes are solo.

I want the winner of this
challenge to be the best.

I don't want the
winner of this challenge

to be someone who just, you
know, put everyone else down.

- Good eyes, Dan. Good eyes.
- [Dan chuckles]

[Jeff softly] I'm down
here fishing right now,

and...

there's about seven impala.

And this makes me
remember back a few days ago

to where Matt would not trade
me the bow for the survival knives

that he needed.

It was the right survival move for
both of us and he sabotaged that

because of his
own vain ambitions

and his feelings towards me.

If I had that bow right now,

I would be able to harvest
this impala for the entire group.

[Matt] Heading out
to hunt this morning.

It's a little bit rainy, still.

It's all right. Kind of knocks
down the human scent.

Have I been lucky as a hunter?

The best way to be
successful is to continue to hunt

by putting myself out there.

That puts me at the advantage.

Here's to success today.

[Blows]

[Gary] I'm hungry. Let's see
if I can find something to eat.

That's the plan today-eat, eat.

Let's go.

I woke up energized,
and I'm inspired to go hunt.

I'm going out with the
intention to get a kill.

We gotta get our bodies full of
nutrients so we can make it to 45 days.

[Matt] To hunt today, I'm going
out a little bit of a higher trail

up through the brush and see
if there's a good ambush point.

You know, wind today, it's cranking.
It's about 10, 15 mile-an-hour wind.

And, you know, for me, that
works out a pretty good advantage,

as I could get there, and my scent
is being blown in a straight trail away.

So today is a good day to hunt.

What I'm trying to do here
is stalk into the position

that those animals
might be moving.

So belly crawling, playing the
wind to kind of sneak up on game.

[Gary whispers] I heard
a female impala up there.

They're right up there.

I need to go up higher,

where they come out.

[Matt whispers]

All right. So we got
impala in front of me.

Try to sneak up on them.

The wind is good. It's a little bit
of a breeze, but it's not too stiff.

[Gary] Impala right there.

A whole herd of male impala.

Rams. Like, 15
rams all together.

[Matt clicking tongue]

[Matt whispering]

The impala are just
chilling and eating

and, uh, because of that,

they're not moving very fast,

they're not going anywhere.

Just ran out of my reach
and they know it. [Exhales]

[Matt snorting]

[Matt whispering]

I'm mentally, you know,
preparing for the shot.

I see it in my eye.

I see it in my mind.

I know what's gonna happen.

[Matt clicking tongue]

[Suspenseful music]

[Matt whispering]

[Matt clicking tongue]

[Suspenseful music]

[Matt whispering]

What the hell?

I look up and I
glance at Gary Golding

up on the mountainside.

[Matt whispering] Gary, dang it.

Gary starts walking down.

His smell comes up.

That one scent

can take the whole
meadow-full of animals

and make it disappear.

You know, the gig is over.

I am frustrated. I am angry.

[Matt exhales]

All these animals down
here know where I'm at now.

[Jeff] Yes! Yes! Yes!

Yes, baby! Yes!

This is what I live for.

This is what I live
for right now! Yes!

Last one standing,

here we come.

[Snake hisses]

[Stacey] I'm super
focused on the shelter roof

because it was
raining last night

and I'm thinking it's gonna
be raining again tonight.

We've got lots of palms,

some shelter covering.

I'm trying to take the reins

and take control in my own fate

in this competition.

How's it going?

[Waz] Pretty good.

- You doing okay?
- Yeah.

Do you mind if I stand in the
shade with you for a minute?

[Waz] No, go for
it. Like, big picture,

- you feeling all right? No?
- [Stacey] No.

[Stacey sighs]

[Stacey] I am really exhausted

and it's ridiculous

and we still don't
have a shelter.

He just doesn't care. [Laughs]

- Yeah.
- He's an interesting cat.

[Waz] He is. He is.

But his...

Right. Yeah.

Like, total lack
of accountability.

Watching how he has
been with some other people,

and some of the backstabbing
that I've witnessed,

it's hard to put up with it.

- God.
- [Waz groans]

Why doesn't he just,
like, be honest, then?

[Stacey] Um...

[Waz] I know it's probably
too late for him now. He's...

He really, really
wants to win this thing.

- Yeah, that's clear.
- Yeah.

He's gonna need to stop
playing, uh, checkers, then,

- maybe start planting some fruit, eh, chef?
- Yeah.

[Stacey laughing]

Tried not to make it about Jeff,

or talk too much about Jeff,
but it did come up, you know,

'cause it does get harder

the longer I'm with Jeff.

- Thanks, Waz. See you later.
- [Waz] All right.

Good luck.

It's hard to see someone

going through
something tough like that.

She's not enjoying
her time with Jeff at all.

But Stacey's got a lot of
power in their relationship

just because she
could tap at any time.

You know, it's not out of
the realms of possibility.

[Gary] What's up?

[Waz] What's up, buddy?

[Gary] Hey.

[Waz] I grabbed Stacey and I,

I looked at her and said,
"hey, how you doing?"

And she goes, "yeah,
I'm good. How are you?"

I'm like, "no, Stacey,
how you doing?"

And, um, you could see the,

the wash of emotion
over her face pretty quickly.

[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Gary] Yeah. "I'm done."

Anywhere between now and 20.

[Waz] But she has
to say the words,

- "I'm choosing to leave."
- [Gary] Yeah.

[Waz speaking]

I don't know how...

- [Gary] Oh, yeah.
- [Waz speaking]

[Gary] Yeah. Yeah.

[Waz speaking]

There is a strategy there.

The rules of the game,

if you choose to leave,

you're taking your
partner with you.

Uh, that would be very,

very interesting.

[Waz] Do you think
there's any benefit to

opening up to her a little bit

about what every
single person here

thinks of Jeff and
how he's doing this

- and seeing...
- Absolutely.

I like your idea, though.

So, you know, I kinda wanna

just touch base with her.

[Matt] I'm gonna
have to do something.

I haven't eaten anything.

This is a 45-day-long challenge.

My biggest concern
now is gonna be,

you know, staying healthy,

like, figuring out enough,

enough food as
we're moving across

from place to place

to keep us healthy.

And it's concerning.

Right now, we're heading
over to the little pond

to kinda scout it.

And then, also, while
I'm scouting it for game,

I'm also gonna see if
there's any fish to be had.

- [Leaves rustling]
- [Matt] Hear that?

There's a snake.
Snake right there.

Snake. It's up in the tree.

It's kind of up on this
branch right there.

It's about 15 feet up this tree.

It's two snakes.

They're mating in the tree.

As I'm looking, I
realize it's two snakes,

two snakes intertwined,

kinda going up
the tree together.

And I'm thinking, "here's
some meat, here's some food."

Oh, [bleep], those
are actually...

Those are actually vine snakes.

A vine snake is a
super deadly snake.

There is actually no anti-venom
in the world for these snakes.

[Narrator] The vine
snake's hemotoxic venom

attacks red blood
cells, preventing clotting,

and can cause organ failure

in the liver, lungs and heart.

Also, this is a highly
poisonous tree.

This euphorbia tree
has sap that literally

will burn your skin like acid.

They, right now, are in

the safest place they
can put themselves.

Wouldn't be Africa if it wasn't
dangerous as hell, I guess.

I have to try to figure out
a plan to get 'em down.

What I'm thinking is

I need someone who handled
venomous snakes before.

I know Steven's been pretty
good with some venomous snakes.

He's quick. He's fast.

So I'm gonna go
grab Steven real quick

and see if we can't both take on

a snake that there's
no anti-venom for.

I don't wanna get, uh,

every survivalist all amped up.

You know, I've fed people on
every challenge I've been on

and I will give my last
bite of food to somebody.

But now it's each
person for themselves.

So, at this point,

I don't wanna divvy this up
and share it among everybody.

How about, uh, how
about we do a trade?

Yeah. What do you want?

- How about I help you carry your firewood...
- Okay.

and you go help me get
two highly venomous snakes?

Really? Are you threatening
me with a good time?

- [Matt] Yes, I am. [Laughing]
- Oh, my God, let's go!

[Exhales] Where they at?

This euphorbia tree right here,

- next to this closest one.
- [Steven] Yeah. Mmm-hmm.

It's basically, we have
two of the most dangerous,

like, organisms on the planet

intertwined together

and we have to
problem-solve away,

uh, to get food on the table.

This is the one they
say, if you get bit,

the best treatment is to
walk over to a nice big tree,

- sit your back against it...
- And die.

- [Chuckling] ...And wait to die.
- All right.

- [Matt] So, obviously...
- [Waz] I heard all the commotion.

- What's going on?
- You got excited.

- [Chuckles] What's up?
- How's it going?

We're assessing a situation.

Out of thin air

comes Dan, Waz and Cheeny.

And at this point, they're
goofing up my hunt.

We're gonna
attempt to knock it out

and kill one or two of 'em.

[Waz] If they fall out
and hit the ground,

just start whacking
'em straight away.

- Let's...
- [Matt] Yeah.

Looking for the right
spot that doesn't have

branches in front of
it. That's the tricky part.

They're camoed good.
Like, when they're not moving,

- it's just some, you know...
- [Dan] Yeah, you wouldn't even know.

[Matt] ...Swirly,
curly branch up there.

[Steven] There's so
much brush in the way.

[Matt] It's gonna be hard
to hit 'cause it's still, like,

- it's a straight-up shot in a poison tree.
- [Steven] Yeah.

'Cause I know, if
we throw rocks at it,

I can just see it
going up higher.

[Steven] A beast's natural
defense mechanism...

Oh, yeah, he's done.

Hey, you guys get
scared? What's happening?

- [Waz] They're separating.
- [Matt] Uh-oh.

[Steven] I can see one
of their heads over here.

Got an angle. See it?

[Matt] Oh, yeah.

Let's see how...
Oh, it just moved.

Not very thick.

[Waz] You could
chop them both in half

- if you get that bottom bit.
- [Matt exhales]

[Man exclaims]

[Waz] Yeah, one's coming down.

[Matt] I shoot and wham!

I nailed a snake, first shot.

Its whole body goes limp.

At this point, it requires
just a little nudge

to knock to the ground.

[Steven exhales] I got this.

- [Matt] Oh, good hit. Good hit.
- [Dan] Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Get it.

- Got him.
- Yeah!

Boys, one.

[Both cheering]

- Yeah!
- [Matt] Nice!

Steven delivers a perfect throw,

knocks the snake
out of the tree,

I pin it down,

Steven comes over,
cuts the head off.

Deadly encounter neutralized.

- Yeah, you guys going to the river now?
- [Waz] Yeah.

- Sounds good. We'll see you there in a bit.
- [Dan] All right.

[Matt] Dan, Waz and Cheeny

just kinda clap
and say, "good job,"

and, uh, continued
on with their day.

[Birds chirping]

[Gary] Breaking off, Stacey?

[Stacey] Yep. Going back
to the boma for some water.

[Gary] I'm outta here too.

- [Stacey] Wanna walk back with me?
- [Gary] Yeah.

How are you?

[Stacey] There's
elements that have been...

- [Gary] Miserable?
- [Stacey] Challenging, yes.

[Gary] Yeah, I've been
avoiding saying too much.

You know the perspective
of everyone here, right?

Yeah. Yeah. I do.

You know, I don't blame anyone

for not trusting
him totally. Um...

- And he's...
- not just totally,

we, we... [chuckling]
We barely...

[Laughing] We don't
even trust him at all.

Did you hear how,

when he found the stuff
in the woods, he said,

"I'm finding all
your guys' [bleep]."

- Uh-huh.
- Did you hear about that?

- I was... yeah. I was there.
- Did he really say that?

[Jeff laughing]

[Jeff shouts] We're
finding all your [bleep]!

[Wes] Oh, Jesus.

This is what I live for!

I love Jeff and,

you know, and stuff,

but here's the deal.

Me and Waz, we're
talking. All of us have been.

And we're like, "hey, Stacey,

- tap whenever you want."
- Oh.

- [Gary] It's how we all feel.
- [Stacey] It'd tap him out.

[Gary] 'Cause he's been
ripping you off and all of us off.

Now there's a strategy.

Imagine what I
would do for the game.

Let Stacey off the hook

and got rid of Jeff.

Now that's how
you play the game.

He might have hard
feelings for a little bit,

but it's like, you know,

"you were playing
the game your way,

why you mad when
I played it mine?"

Yep.

[Gary] I don't
treat people wrong.

I love Jeff,

but he's playing the game wrong.

He can't really be mad at anyone

'cause he invites
everything, right?

[Stacey] Yeah, he loves it.

This is what he lives for.

-[Gary laughing] -[Stacey]
So let's give it to him.

That's something I
really have to think about

over the next,
uh, couple of days.

Basically, I would
have to give up my spot

to take him out,

and am I willing to do that?

I don't really know. I'm,
like, stuck in a really weird,

psychological mind
[bleep] right now.

Something I've
never experienced.

[Narrator] For this competition,

survivalists will be
evaluated each week

on a modified scale.

PSR, or primitive
survival rating,

weighs an individual's
survival skills

and items collected

to determine the likelihood

of becoming the
last one standing.

[Waz] I'm the best
survivalist out here.

[Narrator] Determined
to find caches,

Waz navigated his way

to three of the
advanced survival items.

[Waz] He's playing checkers
and I'm playing 3D chess.

[Narrator] He
also devised a plan

to take out one of his
fiercest competitors.

As a result,

his PSR rises from 9.0 to 9.2.

[Stacey] Maybe we should
put up some sort of shelter.

[Jeff] We don't need it.

[Narrator] After struggling
with her partner, Jeff...

About time. Jeff wasn't
here to find everything.

[Narrator] ...Stacey
found independence

by securing one of the
advanced survival items.

[Gary] He's been ripping
you off and all of us off.

So, Stacey, don't
hang in there for him.

- [Stacey] It'd tap him out.
- [Gary] There's a strategy.

[Narrator] With her
newfound strength,

she now considers taking Jeff

out of the competition.

This raises her PSR

from 8.0 to 8.2.

- [Steve] It's, like, four hooks.
- Steven just found something.

[Narrator] Jeff was outplayed...

- [Steven] There you go.
- Good job.

I know I'm close.

[Narrator] ...And failed
to obtain any new items...

[Jeff] What is happening?

[Narrator] ...And now
faces the risk of elimination.

His PSR drops from 9.4 to 9.2.

To see all of the
survivalists' PSR ratings,

[Birds chirping]

Yeah. That's awesome.

[Matt] That was fantastic.

That's why I knew you were
the man to help me out on that.

Yeah. It wouldn't be right
if I ate this snake by myself.

You know, it's one of the... We
were trying to be sneaky about it

because we don't
want them part of it,

and they didn't... It's
not like they signed up

- for taking us on...
- [Steven] Yeah.

- They just showed up.
- [Steven] Exactly. Exactly.

And because of that, it was, I was
sitting there, I'm like, "God dang it."

I was like, I
wanted to tell 'em,

you know, "hey," you know,
"I need you guys to leave,"

but at the same
time, I was like...

- I was like, "well," you know...
- [Steven] Yeah.

"they're here." It, uh...

And I was about to tell 'em,
"hey," you know, "back off."

Let me show you a little
trick I learned to cook it.

Inside of a snake is fat

lining the, uh, intestines.

So I use those on the pot lid

and then cut the
meat into little chunks.

What we're gonna have going
here is some of this fried fat.

[Steven] And then,
like, sauteing some...

- [Matt] And you can hear it right now.
- [Steven] Yeah.

It sounds beautiful.

It looks amazing.

[Matt] Then

drop these guys around it.

[Steven] Nice.

Ah! And kinda contain the fat.

- [Matt chuckling]
- [Steven] Mmm-hmm.

It's got enough
fat to pretty much

cook about everything
that's in here.

[Steven] Yeah.
Starting to smell it.

Almost smells like pork chop.

[Matt] Pork. I was
gonna say that.

- Pork chop. 100%.
- [Steven] Yeah.

Pork chop that'll kill you.

[Matt] Steven and I
work great together,

but when it comes down to it,

this is a competition and, uh,

I cannot vision any other way

but being the last one standing.

That's a focus I intend
to have the entire time.

All right, I'm about to treat
you to something magical.

[Steve] About to blow my mind.

Oh, my goodness.

So, you got a fat-fried,

fat-fried vine snake cooked...

- [Steven] In its own fat.
- Uh-huh.

[Steven] Mmm.

- Right?
- Oh, my gosh.

[Both chuckling]

Dude, the fat
changes everything.

It makes a whole new level.

Changes everything.

- Oh, my God.
- Now it's close to a,

to like a chicken wing.

It's exactly like...
That's exactly what it is.

Wow.

Mmm. That is the best
thing I've ever had in my life.

Hands-freakin'-down, dude.

- I'm glad to be sharing it with you, buddy.
- Yeah. Me too.

[Stacey] I need to
drink some water

'cause I'm dehydrated.

Jeff, will you give
me that water?

Jeff?

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] Jeff, are you asleep?

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] Oh, God.

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] Middle of the night.

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] It's
cold. I can't sleep.

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] I can't get
comfortable. I'm freezing.

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] It's just
not working out...

[Jeff snoring]

[Stacey] ...And I'm not
really sure what to do.

[Jeff snoring]

[Birds chirping]

[Stacey exhales]

Over the last couple of days,

I've seen certain things
with Jeff's behavior

that have led me to believe

that he's an
egomaniacal narcissist.

[Jeff] Nice haul, Stace.

[Stacey exhales]

[Stacey] Last night was awful.

All I could think about
was that I have this power

that, at any time
in these 21 days,

I could tap out and Jeff
would have to leave too.

Um, we need to have

some sitting and
chatting real quick.

[Jeff] Okay.

And so, he's kind of
vulnerable to me right now.

So, to be completely frank,

I'm, like, this close to
tapping this morning.

No way!

I had no idea.

[Stacey] I'm feeling like you

are holding control
over this entire situation

and it's really, it's
very upsetting to me.

[Jeff] Okay.

And so, that was
why I kind of, like,

came to, um, a precipice

while I was not
sleeping last night

that, "[Bleep] This dude.
I'm out of here. I'm leaving."

Wow.

This is a big "wow" moment.

No one's ever said
those words to me before.

That's like you laying in
bed with your significant other

and them telling you,

"I almost slit your
throat last night."

[Stacey] I will
take us both out.
