Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing (2023–…): Season 1, Episode 2 - Cache Me if You Can - full transcript

[Woman] This is different.

[Man] This is something
we've never done before.

You gotta watch your back
for not just the animals this time,

but for the other survivalists.

[Gary shouts] Run!

Yeah!

[Choking]

[Narrator] For
the first time ever,

twelve of Naked and Afraid's
most skilled survivalists

are competing head-to-head

for 45 days

in the South African bush...

- Whoo! [Laughs]
- [Man laughs]

to crown the best of the best...

Yeah!

and win $100,000.

This is what I live for!

[Man] I will do anything
to win this challenge.

[Narrator] Failure
means elimination.

Don't bitch about
[bleep] losing.

[Narrator] Only one
will reach the end...

[Man] This challenge is so real.

and will be the
last one standing.

Previously on
last one standing...

The competition began as the
survivalists started with nothing...

We have empty bags starting.

[Steven] Usually, we have the
essential things that we need

and we have a map.

and discovered that
their fates were connected.

If either partner chooses
to tap out of the challenge,

both will be eliminated.

- [Laughing] Oh, my God!
- [Man] I know, right?

I don't trust anybody.

[Narrator] Then, they
immediately needed to find tools

to help them
survive a frigid night.

- [Woman] Here's a pot in here.
- [Man] Nice.

[Narrator] While some
teams prioritized the basics...

[Man] Doing really good.

others hunted for
advanced survival tools.

[Cheeny] I see something
tied to that tree right there.

[Jeff] Oh! [Laughs]

Found it! Found it!

[Shouts] Yes!

[Narrator] But when a
cold front swept through...

the brutal conditions proved
too much for Amber and Gwen.

-[Amber sobs] -So, I'm
gonna have to tap you.

Okay.

Unfortunately, Gwen, we're
gonna have to medically tap you.

It's all right, bud.

[Narrator] With their partners
pulled from the challenge by medics,

Matt and Wes get to continue.

But with their first migration
just three days away,

they must now do it alone.

[Bird chirping]

[Grunting]

There's, I think, like,
a kudu barking at me.

[Barking]

Doesn't like me
in its territory.

My strategy to become
the last one standing is

I need to get the
food that's available.

And I need to get
as much as I can.

I'm the scavenger.

I am the dumpster
diver of the wilderness.

Oh, wow.

Mini plums.

Everything I can
get my hands on,

if it's edible, I look
around, I eat it.

If we're not eating meat or some
kind of large chunk of protein,

then I need to sort of
graze like an animal.

And in the next few
days, we're gonna migrate.

So, me and Waz plan on
keeping our eyes peeled for food.

We don't know what's
gonna be at the next place.

So, we gotta get our
bodies full of nutrients,

so we can make it through this.

I don't know
what I'll find to eat.

It could be anything.

I am the scavenger.
I am the hyena.

Oh.

[Chuckles]

- [Flies buzzing]
- [Gary] Look at this

big-ass kudu.

Wow.

Oh. [Chuckling]

Oh, God.

Do you smell it?

It's a lot of maggots.

It's time for Gary
Golding to eat.

I eat maggots like ice cream.

And tarantulas like cookies.

[Flies buzzing]

[Dan] Need a little.

Neat chandelier.

I hung it up 'cause

smoking it sort of
keeps the bugs off.

Helps preserve it.

Prevents rot.

[Cheeny] Um, Dan?

The meat doesn't smell
very good on the leg.

[Narrator] As the
challenge began,

Dan and Cheeny decided to
forgo looking for survival items,

so they could build
a sturdy shelter.

But they were gifted a share of
Sarah and Steven's impala meat cache.

[Cheeny] When I slice this open,

it's got, like, a
greenish tinge.

And I can't even, like...

[Dan] Really?

I think I'm gonna be
sick if I sniff it. [Gags]

[Dan] It's that bad?

[Cheeny] I mean,
you can smell it.

[Dan sniffing]

[Bleep]

[Cheeny] Like,
this is all rotten.

Yeah, you're right.

Even the jerky?

[Cheeny] Does it smell bad?

- It smells...
- [Cheeny] Oh, it's green.

- [Dan] No, don't say that.
- [Cheeny] Yeah. Oh, yeah.

- That's definitely not good.
- [Dan] Quite rotten.

[Cheeny] That's not good.

Dan and I are
trying to get ready

for our migration
in a couple days.

And we have the least
amount of body fat of anybody.

So we really have to get
our hands on some meat.

Let's just go see if we
can finally eat some food.

[Dan speaking]

[Matt] Gwen just left,

and Gwen's health
was in such jeopardy

that she had to be medically
pulled out of this challenge.

And I am now stuck here

for the remainder of
this challenge, solo.

But in the end,

I still feel like
I'll be victorious.

I am ready to get this bow.

[Narrator] Matt tracked and
spotted a critical survival cache.

[Matt] I've got to grab that bow
before, you know, obviously, Jeff can.

[Narrator] But Gwen's health
prevented him from retrieving it.

[Matt] For me, a bow gives
me the possibility to get meat.

Got a few days left
before migration.

And I don't know what
it's gonna take to get there.

But what I do know is

I need all the calories
in my body to make it.

So, I gotta make something to
get up this tree and get that bow.

[Birds chirping]

[Jeff] I'm just thinking of
the reaction to our trade offer.

How Matt was
very not forthcoming

on whether there was one or two.

- [Stacey] Right.
- [Jeff] And then how Gwen immediately said,

"we'll talk it over
and let you know."

Both of those could be reactions

to knowing that they
didn't have the bow.

It's just a thought.

[Narrator] For the first
few days of the challenge,

Jeff and Stacey prioritized

finding all the advanced
survival tools shown on the map.

The only item they
don't have is a bow.

[Jeff] So, we are thinking about
two knives for one extra bow.

[Matt] But I'm not about
to tell him the details

that it's stuck in a tree.

[Jeff] This is the most pivotal and
important meeting of the entire day

because we're proposing
a formal trade offer.

We are offering two of these
advanced survival knives

for Matt's additional
bow and arrows.

I think we're about to find
out one way or another,

especially if we ask to see it.

[Stacey] Uh-huh.

[Jeff] If we were to
secure that trade deal,

that would mean that we would have
every single item from this location one.

And then, I'll have the advantage
above all the other groups.

[Waz] What you got, Gary?

[Narrator] Maggots galore.

[Waz speaking]

[Laughing]

[Gary] I wanna get 'em to a
nice, brown texture and flavor.

The way this challenge works,

resources can run
thin pretty quick.

And when you're
in our situation,

any little bit counts.

I like to eat my maggots
well-done. [Laughing]

It's a lot of maggots.

That's like the
size of three fish.

I know Gary is pretty well-known
for eating absolutely anything.

It's part of who he is and
part of his survival strategy.

He's happy to eat any food.

But, Gary and I just have a
very different style of survival.

Wow.

[Maggots rustling]

[Crunching]

Mmm.

Ah, yeah.

[Pot clanging]

If you're not willing
to eat maggots,

you're not really a survivalist.

Mmm.

- What's going on?
- [Cheeny] What's up, Matt?

[Matt] Haven't been real good.

- You wanna walk with me to the water for a minute?
- [Dan] Sure.

So, haven't been really good?

[Matt] No.

Gwen tapped.

[Cheeny] Really?

[Dan] Did they take
her out already?

Wow.

[Matt] I mean,
this challenge is...

You could do everything perfect,

but sometimes,
you can't control it.

[Dan] Uh-huh.

[Jeff] Hey, neighbors.

- Oh, hey.
- [Dan] Oh, hey. What's up?

[Jeff] What's going on?

- We didn't see you this morning, so we thought...
- [Matt] Yeah.

"are the trade talks
still happening?"

- Yeah.
- [Jeff chuckles] Or, what, uh,

what happened?

I'll come up, like, later.

- Okay.
- [Matt] But, yeah. We're a little delayed now.

- [Jeff] Yeah.
- We have got some other things to do first, so...

You mind if we just, like, take a look
at the bows to see what they look like?

So, right now, I've got
'em off the site a little bit.

So, Jeff is asking me,
"where is the bow?" [Laughs]

Well, I'm not about to tell him

it's up in a tree exactly where
it shows on the icon of the map.

- Okay. All right.
- [Matt] Yeah.

So, the... afraid of someone

- stealing 'em right out of the shelter?
- Yeah. [Chuckles]

You never know.

- They can't fit in there.
- [Both laughing]

It, uh... with the fire, I
didn't want 'em to be off the,

you know, the thing and so...

- [Jeff] Yeah.
- But I'll bring... I'll bring 'em. You'll see it.

- Okay. Okay.
- [Matt] Yeah.

[Both laughing]

You never... you never know.

I am trying to just push him
off of that trail just a little longer.

We would've been up there way
before with Gwen and I, but she got sick.

So, uh, now, a
little deviation tactics

and I tell him, "it's just...
it's not in plain sight."

All right. Well,
we'll see you later.

- Take care of yourself.
- [Matt] Yeah.

- Yeah. Yep, sure.
- [Jeff] You know.

I believe Matt is
being deceptive.

[Matt] Thanks for swinging by.

[Jeff] So, all right. We'll
see you a bit later, Matt.

Yep. We'll see you, guys.

[Jeff] So, I may be
playing nice now.

But the moment someone
starts being the deceptive one,

that's how wars happen.

[Matt] So, Jeff just showed up,

specifically wanting
to see the bows.

The only reason I think he
would wanna see the bows is

he either doesn't
believe I have 'em,

or he has possibly seen 'em.

I don't think he's seen 'em.

He's speculating now if he
needs to go looking for 'em.

So, [sighs]

He's hiding the bows in
the forest somewhere?

Where they would be free game for
anybody to stumble upon and claim?

Whereas if he just
put them in his shelter,

he knows that
they would be safe.

[Stacey] That was very odd.

Very interesting
of you to ask him

if we could see it.

Matt never leaves his bow
away from his side ever.

- He sleeps with that thing.
- [Stacey] Uh-huh.

He doesn't have it.

I'm telling you.

The bow is still out there.

He hasn't found it.

And he's been playing everyone
to prevent us from looking.

And it's worked.

We haven't looked for it yet.

And when he said he's
got "stuff to do today,"

isn't that convenient?

I personally think we should

go try to look for it.

Because we have not seen it.

No one has seen it.

I kind of feel like I'm
being held hostage.

We have spent so much time
trying to beat everybody else

at getting all the
items on the map,

that we take shortcuts

when it comes to getting water and
a decent shelter and looking for food.

And I don't really care
enough about those items.

But he's really
all about winning.

[Matt] Time is of the essence.

So, lashing a couple little
last-minute quick lashings.

I don't have time
to make all the rope.

Quick hitch knot on
every one of these.

Just to give myself a little bit of
lashing material once I get up there.

I gotta make something
to get up this tree

and grab that bow
before Jeff can.

I'm gonna have to find the right
kind of tree to kind of put up there,

make a makeshift
ladder as fast as possible.

So that is when
the scramble begins.

And up the trail I go.

[Jeff] So, when we do this,

let's do it in complete, like,

quiet voices.

[Stacey] Okay.

[Jeff] So, that if he's chopping at a
tree and doesn't know we're coming,

we'll be able to hear his chops.

[Stacey] Okay.

[Jeff] I truly believe
Matt's up to something.

He's not being
the boy scout, uh,

Matt that we're used to.

I'm hauling as fast as a
naked man can go because

I need to chop something
down that's gonna make a ruckus.

I need to chop it down quick

and I need to, hopefully, get it
down before they know what's up.

So, what I'm looking for

is the ability to
get up that tree.

I'm looking for
a tree like this,

with a fork.

Somewhere around 14-feet tall.

It's not the straightest
tree that I would like.

I don't have a lot of options.

So, what I'm building
is a sling ladder

where I'm gonna tie the
lashing that Gwen made.

When it goes on the tree, it's
actually gonna hug that tree.

Keep it from wanting
to roll side to side.

If it's rigid, it might slide
off and come crashing down.

I'm already hearing voices.

So, it tells me they're

within earshot.

[Chopping]

[Matt] Come on.

[Grunting]

[Grunting intensifies]

[Breathing heavily]

- [Bird chirps]
- [Jeff whispering]

[Stacey whispering]

- [Jeff in normal voice] Hey, buddy.
- [Sighs] Oh, [bleep].

Matt, I think we're officially playing
the game, my friend. [Chuckles]

I see a large naked figure
chopping down a very large tree.

[Matt sighs]

[Softly] Piece of cake.

[Exhales]

- Hey, buddy.
- [Matt] What's up, buddy?

[Jeff] The look of
death on that man's face

when he sees us standing there.

The epitome of the "oh [bleep]."

What, uh...

you, uh, harvesting
timber, right?

Harvesting a little timber.

What you gonna do with that guy?

Ah...

[Exhales] Just make stuff.

Yeah.

[Matt] Jeff has a [bleep]
grin on his face that tells me

that he knows I haven't
gotten that item out of a tree.

Too bad you don't
know where you're going.

I seem to got this map
figured out pretty good.

So, uh,

apparently we're gonna
need a tall stick, so...

[Matt] But what
Jeff doesn't know

is what he has to do to get it.

You bring any rope?

Maybe.

- Might need it. Pro tip.
- [Jeff laughing]

[Matt] My advantage
here is I've already found it.

I know exactly where it is

and I know exactly what
it takes to get it down.

What about that, uh, that
no deception there, Matt?

I told you I found it.

You asked if...
told me if I found it.

Not necessarily if I
had it in my possession.

I see.

It appears that the boy scout

has now, uh, listened to the
little devil on his right shoulder.

This is a whole
new challenge, baby.

[Matt] You might as
well just follow me.

You're going to,
anyways. [Scoffs]

[Jeff] You know what?

I think he's right, I think we
might as well just follow him.

[Dan] You see any
good straight pieces for...

[Cheeny] Oh, yeah.
For walking sticks?

[Dan] For, yeah, walking sticks.

Unfortunately, we have some
rotten jerky from the impala.

And the migration's coming up.

So we're just out trying to get some
other protein out here or something

into our system
before we migrate.

Saw something slither
down under this rock.

Hmm.

Who is in there?

I am a scientist.

I'm a researcher, I'm a planner.

But I think the biggest thing is

being resourceful.

Just thinking back
to the Amazon,

I couldn't believe what I
was able to accomplish.

So, I ate a bunch
of tomatoes before,

uh, starting the challenge.

Went to the bathroom
for the first time,

and there's a bunch of little tomato
sprouts coming out of the ground.

And I don't think anyone's
ever tried to have a garden

and have it actually
produce food.

I couldn't be more
proud. [Chuckles]

Every time I'm out here, I
let my grubby little inner child

[chuckles] Go full blast
into the environment.

Pull the rock back.

It's all these potatoey things.

I wonder if that's edible.

It looks like a potato.

- Hey, Cheeny.
- [Cheeny] Yeah?

What did you find?

[Jeff] What does
that look like to you?

[Cheeny] Potatoes.

- Right?
- [Cheeny] Yeah.

I'm suspecting it's this
African wild potato I read about,

but I'm... I'm not really sure.

I mean, it feels like a potato.

[Dan] Looks like a
potato, feels like a potato.

Must be a potato.

So, we have to do some tests
to determine if it's edible or not.

Starts out with, uh,

opening it, rubbing it a little
on a sensitive part of your skin,

see if it tingles a
little bit in each step,

see if there's any
red flags in each step.

Eventually, rubbing a little bit on
the inside of your mouth, maybe.

And chewing a little
bit, spitting it out.

I think my lips are
tingling slightly,

but that doesn't
mean it's not cookable.

Yeah, usually, once you

boil a lot of wild foods,

- the alkaloids are...
- [Dan] Mmm-hmm.

not an issue anymore.

It's crunchy.
It's, like, grainy.

It's clearly water and
starch storage for this plant.

[Cheeny] Yeah.

[Dan] It's good, right?

It's like a potato

mixed with a water chestnut.

Yes, that's it. Yeah.

It tastes totally edible.

Zero red flags,

starchy, it's weird.

But it obviously is
gonna help us succeed.

This fried up a little bit,
these sliced and fried up...

[Cheeny clicks
tongue] Ooh, baby.

Well, it makes me feel better
about our spoiled impala.

Yeah.

[Matt breathing heavily]

[Jeff] Okay.

[Matt] So, without a doubt,

getting this bow
down without a partner,

puts me at a big handicap.

Without having a
second person there,

it's gonna make it
very, very difficult.

[Jeff] Is there

an opportunity here

to work together
and split up the bows?

You sound like a guy in negotiations
of something he hasn't found yet.

Well, I'm a guy in negotiations

with everything else on the map.

How about, uh...

Let's see if you agree on this.

- So, let's say. You do do it, by yourself.
- Yep.

If you get 'em both, we'll,

you know, still trade
two knives for one

- bow.
- That's where it gets complicated.

Okay.

- [Matt] To be honest with you...
- Okay.

I'm only one guy now, I
don't need three knives.

So, I guess you're saying,
if you get 'em by yourself...

Well, um...

I'm gonna then decide.

How Jeff is trying to take every
item to have bargaining tools,

I don't like that.

I'm here to compete
to be the best.

What I have is a cord
lashed between two branches.

And it's gonna sort of
saddle the tree itself.

Attempt number one, here we go.

I should've lost
some weight for this.

[Jeff] Matt's a big guy.

And he's climbing up
this rickety little ladder

that he built in a matter of
minutes because he was rushed.

Because he knew we
were onto his scent.

Uh, this does have a
chance of failure right now.

If Matt falls out of this tree,

it could cost him
his entire challenge.

[Dramatic music playing]

[Matt panting]

[Dramatic music playing]

[Matt] So, this euphorbia
tree takes it to another level.

[Matt panting]

[Matt] You can't touch
it. It's highly poisonous.

One touch of this tree could
send me out of the challenge.

So, not only do I have to
worry about touching the tree,

but falling out of it.

[Matt] Definitely should have lost
some weight before this adventure.

Big man up a twig right now.
Not even, like, a little tree.

[Matt panting]

Uh, victory could
not be more sweet

than watching the loser
watch me lower the prize.

Now, I become the Alpha.

Uh, let's see what we got here.

[Chuckles] Oh.

They were calling to me.

[Dramatic music playing]

[Matt] I still don't know
what I'm doing yet.

[Jeff] Mm-hmm.

Matt understands I'm his
greatest competition out here.

And he doesn't want
that bow in my hands.

Because he doesn't want me
to beat him and to win this thing.

That's what all of
this is about right now.

[Matt] I'm going
to take it back.

Finally, one of us has got
something besides you there, Jeff.

[Jeff] Yeah.

[Dan] It's a huge score.

[Cheeny] There's
so many of them.

- [Dan] Oh, you're putting that on bake?
- [Cheeny] Yeah.

Yep. This is the other half.

[Dan] I'm excited to eat this.

- Okay.
- [Cheeny] It smells good.

[Dan] Wow. It's good, right?

[Cheeny] Mmm.

[Dan] Yeah.

[Cheeny] Smells really good.

[Narrator] Despite
its appearance,

an African wild potato
is actually a plant

and has no relationship
to a regular potato.

While these potatoes
offer some carbohydrates,

they provide 60% less
calories than a regular potato.

Unlimited supply, and that's
just starch and nutrients.

We knew there's
protein out here,

- but having these kind of nutrients?
- [Cheeny] Starch... yeah.

I know potatoes aren't
as sexy as an impala, but...

I couldn't have asked for

any better advantage in
this competition, guaranteed.

- [Cheeny] I'm so glad you chased that lizard.
- [Dan] Okay.

Hell, yeah. Going to
embrace my inner sticky child.

[Snake rattles]

[Jeff] Isn't that something?

Matt can never call me
"the deceiver" anymore.

I... I've shed...
I've shed that title,

and apparently, he's
picked it up. [Chuckles]

Matt has pulled
the trigger first.

And it appears the war
may now be starting.

I mean, he doesn't
need two bows.

He will never use two bows.

He could trade it to us right now
and get two advanced survival knives.

And also because we're the
only ones with other items.

We hold them all.

[Stacey] Don't you feel
kind of like a dick for that?

These tools out here are meant
to help us get through our days

and to move forward
and to survive out here,

not to be hoarded
like a little gremlin

in their boma at
the base of a tree.

No, because we've
let everyone know

that we're... That
we're willing to trade.

[Stacey] Yeah, but what
else does anybody have

besides the bow and
their skills to trade?

Getting as many items as you can

does not qualify
winning in this challenge.

I'm seeing on everybody's faces
that they... They don't trust him

and he's not thinking
ahead of the game.

Well, nothing yet.

And so, um,

maybe we just hold the
knives until the next location.

[Stacey] What do you think about just
giving a knife to people of our choice?

'Cause we literally
have everything.

This is crazy to me.

Like, where is all this
socialism coming from?

I mean, uh, my skills
and my skills alone

are what allowed us to
acquire all of these materials.

I mean, he might
also decide that,

"why give Jeff a bow and have
Jeff out there killing impala?"

He can keep them both and
prevent that from happening.

We shall see. We'll see
if the boy scout returns

or whether, uh, Matt
goes full savage.

[Dramatic music playing]

[Waz] You were
gone for a long time.

[Gary] That's right. I
was camping with gaza.

[Waz] It's gone.

[Waz] Gary and I are... Are
camp... We're camping right now.

We don't have a shelter.

We're under a tree. It's got a pretty
solid canopy, so it's not too rough.

[Gary] Look at the smoke
coming out of the center.

[Waz] But it looks like the fire is
burning away at the tree a little bit.

[Gary] Wow.

That fire has burned all
the way into the center.

It's like hot lava in there.

- It tore that tree up.
- [Waz] Yeah.

We got two days left here.

It's only for two nights, so it's
not going to be too big of a deal.

- [Waz speaking]
- [Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Bleep]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

- [Gary speaking]
- [Waz speaking]

[Mysterious sound]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

I can [bleep] hear it.

[Waz speaking]

[Bleep] Get up. Get up. Get
up. Get up. Get up. Get up.

[Frantic movement]

[Bleep]

[Waz speaking]

I can [bleep] hear it.

[Waz speaking]

[Bleep] Get up. Get up. Get
up. Get up. Get up. Get up.

- [Frantic movement]
- [Bleep]

[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz] Gary, I think you're, uh, lucky
to have made it through the night.

- You were lying directly under that, you know?
- [Gary] Oh, yeah.

My head was right here,

probably weighs a
few thousand pounds.

That would have
smashed my skull.

That was a close call for me.

You know, I used one
of my lives out here.

For sure.

[Waz] It's the
stuff of nightmares.

'Cause, like, I wouldn't be
able to get the branch off you,

and I don't think you
would've made it, you know?

We just count our
blessings and move on.

But to me, it's like
another day at the office.

I got to keep moving forward.

[Waz] That side of the tree
is still going to come down

'cause it's still
burning from the inside.

And we don't know which
way this is going to fall, so...

We should find a new
place to camp tonight.

[Waz] Yeah, today,
first thing on the agenda

is just moving
camp a little bit.

We want to be away from
this tree so it doesn't fall on us.

But that's a lot of calories.

You're going to be sweating,
get sore muscles, lose energy.

So, it's... it's going to put
us already at a disadvantage

before migration.

[Gary] I'm just going to walk
around and look for [bleep].

On day seven, we're
going to migrate.

So, today, we don't even
plan on building a shelter.

'Cause you're gonna burn all those calories
and gonna have to walk away from it.

I mean, I thought
about under than tree.

[Waz] Yeah. That's
a pretty solid canopy.

There's no huge
barriers from the wind,

but if we have a fire in
between us, then that mitigates it.

[Gary] Yeah.

It's got a lot of leaves.

And if you look over here,
it's... Pretty flat right here.

[Waz] Yeah. I think it works.

Let's start clearing it up.

[Dramatic music playing]

- [Jeff] Hey, man.
- [Matt] What's up?

[Stacey screams]

- [Stacey chuckling]
- [Jeff] Wow. What's up, Matt?

Not much. What's up, guys?

[Jeff] Now, look at you,
Mr, uh, double bow hunter.

- [Matt] Double bow is here.
- [Jeff chuckles]

[Matt] So, I've thought
it overnight, I've decided

that in my challenge,

I don't want to have to give
something to get something.

And to be honest, like, when I hear
screaming in the... in the parts of...

I'm getting all your [bleep].

[Jeff screaming]

[Echoes] We're
finding all your [bleep]!

And you come up with a
position of power to a... for a trade.

You know, I decided
it's not my challenge.

So, I'm actually going to
be giving this bow to Steven.

- Okay.
- [Matt] And, uh...

We were more deserving of
that bow than anyone else here

based on us being there
at the same time as Matt.

But you know what?

What comes around goes around.

It's noted.

And so, I'm going
to surprise him today

and bring it over his way.

Okay.

Already, we've seen
someone like Jeff

going in and try to
hoard every item.

So, day seven, we're going
to be migrating to a new spot.

So, I'm going to try
to figure out a way

to work together this time.

No surprise. Obviously,
he's a predictable...

He's a predictable human. Jeff
plans to get everything that he can

to either barter or
hinder other people.

We definitely want the stuff.

- But we don't want to hoard it.
- [Waz] Exactly.

[Matt] His plan is to get
there the fastest on day seven.

He's only one person, though.

- [Matt] Oh, yeah.
- [Dan] That's what I was saying.

We look at this map
and split up, like...

- [Man] Yeah.
- Divide them up.

There's no way he'll
get more than one.

- [Steven] I like that plan.
- [Matt] It's... yeah.

- [Waz] So, let us play it all together.
- [Steven] Exactly.

[Matt] Okay.

When we migrate, if
we've got someone out here

that's trying to hoard
and barter everything,

I think it's going to make
sense for the rest of us

to try to divide and
conquer these caches

so Jeff doesn't go from one
to the other and get all of them.

[Waz] So, everyone's
in agreeance?

We all just going
to collect [bleep]?

People like Jeff, he's just
showing all his cards way too early.

For me, it doesn't
make any sense at all.

He thinks he's
playing a strong game,

but right now, he's in the
shallow end of the pool,

he doesn't even realize it.

[Steven] Dude! Hell, yeah!

[Matt] When there's a
weasel stealing eggs,

you know, we've got to
split the basket up a little bit.

Yeah.

[Matt] Jeff's created a scenario
where it's him against everyone.

[Dan] Yup.

[Gary] Crazy game. Totally
different than the norm.

[Steven] Crazy.

I want this.

I'm gonna do something
with it. [Panting]

[Narrator] Two days ago,

Wes lost his partner,
Amber, to a medical tap,

and, now, must face all
his daily survival tasks alone.

[Wes] A team of two
is now a team of one.

So, no more shared responsibilities.
I just got to do everything.

I've been alone before, and
it doesn't really bother me.

I don't like it. I
prefer to be a team.

I don't have anybody
to help carry supplies

or bounce ideas off.

Usually, a good partnership gets
more done than a single person.

This is the first time I've used
the map since Amber's been gone.

She was always the
navigator, so I let her lead.

Only now, I'm thinking I should
have paid a little more attention.

Day six.

Tomorrow's the big day.

Ah, migration!

No one knows what to expect.

[Narrator] Throughout
the challenge,

the survivalists will
migrate every seven days

to a new location,

which will provide new
opportunities for food,

resources and new cached
items hidden in the environment.

[Wes] So, today, I'm
going to go find the location

where we're supposed
to meet up tomorrow,

so I don't have to
stress about that.

I take the same trail out and then act like
I'm going towards the monkey fruit area.

There's a monkey
fruit tree close by

where the meeting
point is tomorrow.

So, the monkey fruit, I think, is
down here at the bottom of this ravine.

Be nice if few more
pieces of monkey fruit fell.

There it is.

All right, my navigation
skills aren't so shabby.

Oh, what's this?

What's this?

As luck would have it,
a piece of monkey fruit.

It's, uh... It's not hard green.

It's kind of lightened-up green.

And you can see where something's
already been trying to get at it.

Typically means that it's ripe.

So, that'll go in the
bag. It's top pocket find.

[Exhales]

Yeah, that's barely
been gotten into.

Africa is offering us
free food right now.

Monkey fruit does not
taste what it looks like.

You would think it'd be
orange deliciousness.

It's not.

It's got a... A
little sweetness.

And then a lot of
bitter at the end.

But it does have
nutritional value.

Hey, now. Hey, now.

That was a success right there.

And continue on my journey.

[Cheeny] We should probably
explore that map before it gets too hot.

[Dan] Yeah, let's do that.

Would like more meat, though.

[Cheeny] Mmm-hmm.

[Dan] Day six.

And before we migrate, a big
part of what we're doing today

is trying to just find the area that we're
going to need to go to on day seven

to get to the next location, 'cause
that's going to be really important.

All right, so, plan is
to follow this trail down,

scout out the map tree...

- [Cheeny] Mmm-hmm.
- [Dan] And then find this on the way back.

[Cheeny speaking]

[Dan] It's time.

[Cheeny] We should be coming
up on a T intersection, ideally.

Well, we're just out
trying to learn our paces.

Got to be able to move fast tomorrow
but thorns are going to be a bitch.

[Cheeny] Mmm-hmm.

[Dan] I'm not known for my
land nav skills. They're not great.

But Cheeny, on the other
hand, trains people in it.

[Cheeny] 'Cause we're just
starting to parallel the river now.

[Dan] This is around 45 paces, and
the path followed the right direction.

[Cheeny] Yeah.

[Dan] So, she's been
helping me out with pacing

and all the kind of skills
that we're going to need

to move forward
in this challenge.

[Cheeny] So, I
mean, what's up here?

[Dan] Almost there.

[Murmuring] Okay. 27, 28...

I think we found it.

That's the monkey tree, huh?

[Cheeny] Yeah,
this is our ravine,

- so I guess that's it.
- [Dan] Okay. This is definitely it.

-The map made sense.
[Chuckles] -[Cheeny] Finally.

[Dan] [Bleep] God.

[Cheeny sighs] Good.
We'll sleep better tonight.

[Gasps] Look at that snake.

Holy [bleep].

- [Dan] It's thick.
- [Cheeny] Pretty good-sized puffadder.

[Dan] Tell me if it's venomous.

- Like, the rare kind.
- [Cheeny] Oh, yeah. That's venomous.

[Narrator] The puffadder
is a highly venomous viper

responsible for more deaths
than any other snake in Africa.

It is extremely aggressive
with large fangs,

and when disturbed,

it can strike its target with
sudden rapid accuracy.

- [Dan] Quick.
- [Cheeny] I know, I'm going.

[Dan] I don't want to spook it.

[Dramatic music playing]

- [Dan] Oh, I see him now.
- [Cheeny] Move slow.

[Dramatic music continues]

[Dan] Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

[Cheeny] Whoa.

[Dan] Ow!

[Suspenseful music playing]

[Cheeny gasps]
Look at that snake.

Holy [bleep].

[Cheeny] Pretty
good-sized puffadder.

[Dan] Tell me if it's
venomous. Like, the rare kind.

[Cheeny] Oh, yeah.
That's venomous.

- [Dan] Got it. Whoo!
- [Cheeny] Whoo!

- [Dan] That's some meat.
- [Cheeny sighs in relief]

- Making up for it.
- [Cheeny] Yeah, man.

[Dan] Check that out. [Chuckles]

[Cheeny] Oh, yeah, Dan.

[Dan] Wondering where
they all been hiding.

[Cheeny] Dan, you're my hero.

Yeah, bring it over here so
I can just whack its head off.

Cool.

- That is venomous as [bleep].
- [Cheeny] oh, yeah, it is.

- Yeah, look at these glands right here.
- [Cheeny] Yeah.

[Dan] There's this big, old
puffadder. It's, like, three feet long.

Just scooting along the ground.

Just like that, we have our first
protein score of this challenge.

Obviously, it's a fantastic
source of energy for migration day.

Peeling a snake's just like
pulling a sock off your foot.

[Cheeny] Yeah.

- [Dan] Oh, yeah?
- [Cheeny] Yeah, "skinny rabbit."

[Dan] Oh, [bleep].

Pretty good hunk of meat.

Sort of.

[Jeff] Today is about making
some items for migration and all that.

- [Stacey] Yeah.
- [Jeff] And we got today to prepare for it.

[Stacey] Mmm-hmm.

Day six. I'm excited
to be moving tomorrow.

We can put together some shoes.
We'll be walking out of here in style.

[Stacey] Yeah, that'll
be nice. Let's do that.

[Jeff] Shoes and boiling
water and hydrating.

- [Stacey] Mmm-hmm.
- [Jeff] Yeah?

Today, we decided to make
good use of the oryx pelt

and make some shoes. We
have migration coming up,

and it's going to be
a huge advantage

against not only
the other survivalists

but for our own
personal well-being.

This new location, we don't
know what it's going to be like,

we don't know what kind of
vegetation or resources or water it has,

but I can tell you this.

Not a whole lot of cons
to moving from this place.

'Cause we're up
in the highlands,

and there's not a
whole lot up here.

This is where you would
cast out the infidels.

[Jeff] I'm really bad
at arts and crafts hour.

[Stacey] So, first, you want
to poke a hole on each side.

[Jeff] So, what I'm
thinking is like this.

[Stacey] I was
thinking like that.

[Jeff] Oh, more further out.

It'll keep the shoe tighter.

Yeah. You're
right, that will help.

Long-term strategy
between Jeff and I

would be just to make it to
21 days and see what happens.

He does perceive me as
a lesser skilled survivalist.

So, I do feel in this partnership
that I'm being underestimated.

That's pretty nice.

[Jeff] That looks sweet.

Whoo! How about that?

We got shoes, baby!

- Cheers. Clink me.
- [Stacey] We got, like...

[Imitates clinking]

Oh, that feels good.

[Jeff] Isn't that nice?

Game freaking changer.

[Cheerful guitar music playing]

[Jeff] Things are looking up.

[Bird cawing]

[Dan] Like a little snake stew.

[Cheeny] Mmm! [Chuckles]

[Dan] Yeah.

That about half
where my finger goes?

Um, yeah.

I'm going to pull.

Honestly, it feels pretty good
to kill something out here.

Oh, there's more
meat than I thought.

- Oh, like a little chicken.
- Here, pick one.

Ah, I'll go with this part.

Okay.

And it feels good to
get a little more food,

but that was a huge score.
