Making the Cut (2020–…): Season 3, Episode 3 - Episode #3.3 - full transcript

Previously on Making the Cut...

For your next assignment,

you will be working in collaboration
with iconic brand Champion

to create a two-look
activewear collection.

You want to look comfortable
but you want to be stylish.

When I saw the Champion logo,
the first thing I thought of was my dad.

He's a carpenter, and he would
wear Champion sweaters to work.

My mother's now said to me,

"I told you, you need to study
in English more,"

and I started studying two months ago.

- You're doing great.
- Thank you.

Rafael, your customers
are going to like it.

I think the Champion customers
will like it.

You really checked all the boxes.

- Congratulations, you are the winner.
- Thank you.

Curtis, loved your jumpsuit.

We would like to partner with you
on producing that look.

Thank you.

Jeanette, those were my two
least favorite looks on the runway today.

This looks like
an avantgarde Fruit of the Loom.

Then the second look comes out.

It was a boring dress
with a boring coat over it.

Sorry to disappoint you,
but if you guys give me the opportunity

to show you what I can do,
you guys are not going to regret it.

Obviously, I have the passion.

Jeremy, have you changed your mind?

Yes, I have.

Jeanette, you're making the cut.

- Hello again.
- Hi.

How is everyone feeling?

- Good.
- Good.

Only eight of us remain.

I want this so badly.

I'm out for blood. Just kidding.

Well, winter is always
around the corner,

and staying warm
while staying fashionable

is always a little difficult, is it not?

It is. I have to say,
even though I don't love winter,

I love winterwear.

No, I'm with you, Heidi.

I think there's nothing more chic

than a stylish cold-weather look
from top to bottom.

A good jacket or coat
can really make an outfit.

It's the finishing touch
before walking out the door.

For your next assignment, you will create
a two-look winterwear collection.

And, as always, one look should be

a high-fashion interpretation
of winterwear...

and one look
should be an accessible version.

Wow.

I know how winter is,
how winter feels.

This is my assignment to win.

I'm really tired of being in the middle.

You will have one day for this assignment.

What?

So you will only have
a seamstress for one night.

You almost had whiplash
when you heard "one day," didn't you?

One day!

You were like...

Are you guys feeling
stressed for this one day?

- Yes.
- Yes, very.

Well, this is the third week, guys.

We're making
a very thoughtful assumption

that you're learning how to manage
your time, and you'll need to.

I wish all of you good luck.

- Make it amazing.
- Yeah.

Make us want to buy it.

Have fun, and I see you on the runway.

And I'll see you tomorrow.

- Bye, everyone.
- Thanks, you two.

Bye, guys.

- Are we having a drink now, Tim?
- Please!

I'm exhausted.

I feel a little bit disheartened,
just, um...

from the day.

Obviously, we're working
really hard, um...

and I'm not getting any feedback.

I just want to speak to the judges
and find out what they think.

This is a lot of work, and I literally

don't know how to do that in one day.

Good morning, guys.

My god, it's so cold.

Oh, but it's so sunny.

Oh, yes, this is perfect.

- Yeah.
- Oh, I'm dying for a coffee.

I am thankful that the judges
gave me an opportunity

because even I
was very disappointed

about my assignment,
and I want to show them

what I can do.

Do you think the jacket should go
to there, though, or should it go...?

No, I think you can do a longer one.

I'm thinking I would like to incorporate

the corset silhouette
back into my runway piece.

This already looks really nice.

I would love that cropped.

I do love creating outerwear,

so I do think that this
is a chance for me to thrive.

I think we're the only one
who didn't speak to the judges.

Yeah, so we're we're both in-the-middles.

So, we have probably to speak next time.

Yeah.

This competition decides my future.

I'm here, first and foremost of all,

to prove myself
that I'm on the right track

to reach people with what I believe in.

What are you doing?

I'm doing a dress
with long sleeves.

I could use faux fur,

and then I was thinking about doing
some recycled faux leather,

if they have any.

- They have the sustainable material.
- They do?

- Yeah.
- Okay, I'm definitely going there.

I'm making a coat dress.

I wanna do something
that's contouring the silhouette

in my Georgia Harding style.

I think I'm gonna use fake...
Faux fur,

but I might go really colorful with it.
Like, winter fantasy.

You've been shipped off
to boarding school.

You're walking through the forest
and it's snowing,

and you are the ice queen,
so I've got these boarding school capes.

When I saw your drawings,
I know exactly what you're going for.

You're going for being princess.

Yeah.

This is what they want... drama.

Drama.

Ooh. That's great.

- That's so fun.
- That's so me.

I'm thinking I'm gonna do contemporary,
but chic contemporary.

Do you like these colors, or...

is this too, like, teenage Miley Cyrus...
Like Hannah Montana?

But, you know,
it depends on what you do with it.

You always make things look great.

Thank you very much.
Have a good one.

I'm looking for colors
in the white shade range.

I'm coming from a country
with very cold and wet winters,

so I want to transport
this coziness with my looks.

I hope it's gonna look
really out of this world.

Thank you.

Hey.

Hey. Wow, you're fast too.

Yeah.

- How much is this?
- That's going to be a hundred.

Can you give me four yards
of that one, please?

Yesterday, I saw Nicole
with an Oscar de la Renta gold dress.

She looked like a goddess in that dress.

So, I want to create my version.

In the last assignment, I did pretty bad.
I have to step it up.

I don't use shiny fabrics, so I know
that I am out of my comfort zone.

But I didn't want to play safe

because I wanna show them,
like, why they picked me,

and it's because I'm a very talented,
passionate designer.

My name is Jeanette.
I'm 13 years old.

Wait, what? Thirt...

Okay.

I'm 33 years old.

I am from the Dominican Republic,
but I live in Philadelphia.

This is my baby.

And of course we're in Jeanette Limas.

I mean if it's not Jeanette Limas,
so I'm not going to wear it.

My brand DNA is artistic,

elegant, and a little bit sexy.

My man is wearing Jeanette Limas.

Ah...

I'm well known because of drapes.

I do it because, you know,

it just takes me back
to the Dominican Republic.

I grew up in La Romana.

It's a very small city.

My mom and my dad managed it

for my sister and I to have milk,
but they didn't have food.

They didn't have food.

So, my dad had to move
to the United States to support us.

Growing up, I wanted to look
beautiful like everybody else,

but I didn't have...

I didn't have the money
to buy the materials.

But what I did have was
a lot of curtains in my... in my house.

And I used the curtains to drape myself.

So, drapes are the heart
of Jeanette Limas.

I want to make my mom and dad proud

because they have sacrificed so much
that I don't have an excuse.

I want the whole world
to dress Jeanette Limas,

and I'm not gonna stop
until I make that happen.

When you think
winterwear, it's multiple layers.

We have a day to do it,
which is absolutely insane.

I'm so excited
about this assignment

because I really love winter.

And...

Let's go work, bitch!

- Gotta remember to drink water.
- And eat too.

Oh, my God, how fun is this?

Like a fur muff out of this?

This is like my favorite part
of the process...

From, like, sketch to,
like, draping and patterning.

I can spend four months on,
like, one pattern.

So, yeah, I love this part.
I just can't take too long.

Okay.

I'm a little bit nervous.

I made this bigger 'cause I don't know

how it's going to look
when something's underneath it.

It looks nice.

Do you think it's,
like, interesting enough?

- Or do I have...?
- Yeah, I think it's cool.

I like it. It already says Gabby.

I'm Gabriella Meyer.
I'm 26 years old.

I grew up on the north side
of Chicago, in the suburbs.

I am the designer
and founder of Denimcratic.

My brand utilizes upcycled denim

and knitwear
to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

I have been out in L.A.
for six months now.

I decided to make the big move

because I really wanted
to scale my business

while I'm still on my parents'
health insurance.

We work with a lot of
celebrity clientele:

Khalid, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber.

And we've been in publications
from Vogue to Billboard.

But we've kind of hit our capacity of

how many of these we can produce
at a time. So, how do we grow?

Winning Making the Cut

would be exactly what I would need
to be able to bring the business

where I want to bring it.

I'm making a bodysuit
for my runway look with a coat on top.

My last assignment, I was in the bottom.

Being in the bottom is awful.
You don't want to be there.

So, today I'm keeping
my eye on the prize.

It looks like you're
almost done over there.

- He is so fast.
- He's so fast!

Like this...

I see some sparkle.
I see some sequins over there.

Let it shine, let it shine.

Just make sure there's volume
so it doesn't come off as raincoat.

It's kind of gonna be like that.

Just make sure it's winter
and not... you know...

I've got fur.

That's all you had to say!

I don't do outerwear that much.

I specialize in dresses,
so when designing this,

I was thinking a coat dress.

- Hello!
- Hi, everyone!

We're happy to have you here.

Thank you.

- Gabby.
- Hi.

Hi, what are you up to?

My two favorite things,
corsets and puffers.

Okay.

So, this is kind of my more
runway look that I'm starting on...

Okay.

Which is going to be a denim corset.

And this is the silhouette
for the puffer outfit,

and then the corset
will overlay over the puffer.

- It's a neck-to-toe puffer.
- You gotta stay warm.

And I was thinking of just doing more
of a baggier pant overall.

But then I think that
the puffer needs to be fairly slim.

- 'Cause you want some counterpoint.
- Yes. Yes.

This has got to read high fashion.

And, other than the length,
what really differentiates this look

from the more accessible one?

- Which... which is which?
- Okay.

I'm going full winter fantasy,
so we're doing capes.

We're gonna do a short little flirty one,

and then we're gonna do
a floor-length one for the runway look.

Is it enough?

What's your biggest concern?

No, I think it has the potential
to be a showstopper.

He didn't seem as confident
as the last two times I talked to him.

I don't know. It has me a little worried.

I talking about work with balance.

And orange is more expansive,
is more hot,

and black is more sober.

Are you taking this look far enough?

Mmm.

What I'm making here
is the accessible look.

There's puffy sleeves.

That's a lot of volume
for an accessible look.

Think about the customer.
She's driving a car, she's...

- You're right.
- Going shopping.

It looks more runway to me
than it does accessible.

- Hi!
- Hi, Tim, how are you?

Well, you're your own mannequin.

This is my runway look, a big coat.

So this part here is gonna have padding.

This is a fantastic, fabulous textile.

Yeah.

If the textile goes away,
is it just a boring shape?

I know what you mean, yeah.

The conundrum with this textile

or any textile
with this much visual command is

you really don't wanna do a lot with it

because the textile is the statement.

So how do you strike
that happy medium

of doing enough
with shape and volume

without compromising
the quality of this textile?

I suggest you go into the fabric room
and just look around.

- Yeah, I will.
- Okay?

I'm a little bit regretting
that I picked that fabric...

so I have to see what else I can find

because I did so bad
in the other challenge

that with this one,
I'm going to work even harder.

- The way that you've created the shape...
- Yeah.

I picture a pope.

But it's not bad, no?

- It's excellent.
- It's excellent, perfect.

- Hi, Yannik.
- Hi.

This is a winter collection.
I want to transport a feeling.

For me, winter brings me back
to Switzerland, where I come from...

- Yes.
- And you just want...

the tea under the blanket at home.

So, I want to transport
this feeling of this coziness.

- Okay.
- And thinking about...

for the runway look,
my interpretation of a blanket...

- And what shape are you making?
- A blanket.

- It's gonna be square and two holes.
- Okay.

- Any thoughts?
- You've piqued my interest.

- Okay.
- Yeah.

- You just have to do it.
- Yes.

I'm very eager to hear what you're doing.

This is my coat with faux fur sleeves,

and my show dress
is a lamé-like chiffon...

and then I was going to do
a little bomber jacket in this faux fur.

Oh.

What do you think?

They're gonna read so differently
in this copper.

- This looks very dark and goth...
- Uh-huh.

And this looks like
the circus is in town.

This is too Halloween.

It has to go in the same family.

- Yeah.
- Yeah, I agree with you.

All right, designers, my advice is,

get the judges' voices out of your head

and listen to your own voice.

I love you guys.

- Thank you so much, Tim!
- Thank you, love you too!

- I have to change my fabrics.
- Oh, he doesn't like them?

- He says it's carnival.
- Carnival?

But he's right.
It's Halloween vibes.

Maybe the gold is less Halloween,

but I think if I do another gold dress,
I'm just a bore.

They saw a gold dress
on the first assignment.

If I do another one,
I need to show the judges

that I can do something totally different.

I don't have time.
I need to make it.

Is there faux fur in here?

I switched
to this beautiful gold fabric,

and it looks expensive.

He said it has the potential
to be a showstopper.

But then I'm like, what's that gap
where it's not a showstopper?

The potential means it's there,
so if I just do it right, it'll be great.

So, I should just...
I should just do it.

I should just do it.

I'm done designing.

And now I'm sewing.

Perhaps I just do it like trash.
Just a knot in it.

The judges want drama,
so I'm gonna give them drama.

Hello, America, it's me.

Sunday afternoon,
I'm on the way to visit my mom.

Hi! I'm the mother.

Here in Switzerland, like,
everything is planned,

organized, perfect,
and I never been perfect.

I was always a weirdo,

but I feel like I had
a really happy childhood

because
I had really a supportive family.

My sister got pregnant with 16,

and I came out as gay with 17,

and we chose the same day to tell them,

so my parents literally freaked out.

That was a shock moment for them,
but they're very proud of us.

- Cheers.
- To us!

To what?

To the million!

Started modeling for quite a while.

There is a certain way
the agency wants you to look,

there is a certain way
people want you to look.

I don't want to be pretty,
and that's why I wanna stop modeling.

I started with tattoos
and with bleaching hair

and finding who I am.

I want to try to express that.

My clothes, they prove
being different is absolutely okay.

Who wears my brand?

It's like freaks, aliens,
everyone who feels different.

A lot of people are working
in the present and in the past,

and I really do believe I'm the future.

Hello!

- Hi!
- Let's do this!

Worst-case scenario,
you'll be in your underwear under these.

This fitting is one of
the easiest fittings that I have done.

I just let the fabric do its job.

You look like a present.

Your dress is going to be
in that fluffy thingy.

Can you hold that for a second?

I'm getting super excited about my looks.

The colors look amazing on them.
The fit looks really amazing.

I think it's a great reflection of
my brand and what people like to see.

I'll put in snaps.
You'll have a collar.

There you go.

Okay, well done.

- Georgia?
- Yeah?

Are you stressed?

- Yeah.
- Okay.

I'm cutting them the same way.
What a moron.

My brain seriously doesn't work.

- Good work, girls.
- Bye!

I love you. I love you all.

Cheers.

Winterwear.

Everybody's doing, like,
something different.

And each of people is so talented.

So talented.

- Right.
- See ya!

Okay, I need a cocktail.

It's gonna be more difficult now
saying goodbye,

'cause we're getting to know
each other quite well now.

I know, I know.

I was never that kid who,
like, finished their work first in school.

Me too, obviously.

I, like, kind of feel like
we're back in that right now.

- Okay, guys, salute.
- Salute!

- Clink!
- Barely making the cut!

Barely making the cut!

Hola, mami.

Hola, papi.

Hi. How are you?

Good. It's nice to see you.

You guys know I do this
because I love fashion.

I choose a career that I'm in love with.

My only focus is I want to stay here.

This is something that I have been...

working for so long.

Working for so long.

It's a big sacrifice,

and we understand it's a big moment
that you're going through.

Yeah.

My dad told me, "If you sweep the floor,

you have to be the best one
cleaning the floor."

The best one.

And obviously he put that in me,
and I don't want nothing less.

I don't want less than just
make you proud every day.

That's what I want.

Morning, everyone.

Another elimination,
and I'm so, so, so excited.

I really want to finish that
winter assignment

because if I'm able to finish them

as I want them to be finished,

- they're going to look...
- amazing.

Ohh... here we go.

It looks kind of done.

Hello!

My god, so much to do.

Literally gonna be running
the whole day. Whoo!

So much to get done.

I know. I'm trying to take it slow.

Oh, you're trying to take it slow?

- Well...
- Are you crazy?

There is no way in hell
this is all getting done.

This is so unrealistic.

Honestly, I'm not that chill right now.

Oh, my God, still a long way to finish it.

Hello, beautiful people.

Okay. Ready!

- Are you ready?
- Yes!

Put your arm through there. Okay.

This is what they want... drama!

Drama!

Let me see here. That's it.

You look insane.

I'm looking forward
to speaking to the judges.

Hopefully I'll get to know if they
actually like my brand or not.

Okay, let's... let's do this.

For makeup, this is
the pink that I have on my pieces.

I'm going to do
a middle parting wet look.

- Okay.
- Thank you.

Could use One United,
which is a conditioner spray.

- That's quite good for her hair.
- Yes.

So, I was picturing, like, really cute,

we've been on a sleigh ride all day,

like really rosy cheeks,
even a rosy nose.

- Just a little sunburned, a little...
- Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, I think it'll be cute.

She's wearing a gown, but I want her face
to be very edgy, if you know what I mean.

Smokey eye, big brow.

Okay, for her, black eyes like
a New York girl gangster, to be strong.

- 24/7 pencil, we'll use for that.
- Perfect.

- Hi!
- Hey!

Couture garbage is what I'm...
I'm going for.

- Amazing.
- Yeah, thank you.

You're welcome.

I will never, ever do
a pretty, pretty makeup.

I want them to look
a little freaky winter

and not Princess Winter
because the look is quite trash.

It has to be some kind of edgy pretty.

Cooperate, please.

Thank you.

Oh, shit.

Oh, my God. So hurt.

Ohh!

The needle is in my...

The needle is in your finger?

Yeah.

Prepping the vehicle.
We need to go to the hospital.

But I need to finish.

Understood, understood.

Your safety is our priority right now.

- Oh, no.
- Aah!

I feel my heart here.

I know, but...

I'm way more concerned
about that than this.

Okay, no problem. Don't worry.

I came here to show my clothes.

Raf.

I need to put the clothes in my model,

and after, I will think about my fingers.

You gotta go. You did it.

Oh, my God, the runway will be,
like, in one hour,

and now I have a needle in my finger.

Do you think he's gonna
come back today? Or...

I don't know.
I hope that his finger's okay.

I leave everything
in Brazil to be here,

and I can't lose the competition.

It's really hard.

It smells a little bit.

This is so cool.

So short time. Oh, my God.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant,
brilliant, brilliant.

Yay! We're in.

Cool. Let's see.

Yeah.

- What a day.
- I know.

I'm nervous.

Mmm.

You look around the room
and you see so many

other beautiful things.

All you hear is your demons in your head,

so it's so hard
not to start comparing yourself,

and I've just got to sell
what I've made at this point.

- All right, guys.
- Good luck, everyone!

Good luck!

Good luck, and don't fuck it up!

Wow, Tim, I mean, we have
our own winter wonderland.

We do indeed.

And it's all the beauty of winter
and none of the cold.

It's kind of perfect!

Welcome to our winterwear fashion show.

Our designers are extremely
creative and innovative,

and there's
a lot of very interesting work.

- Good.
- Yeah.

- Interesting is good.
- Yeah.

The designers created
a two-look winterwear collection.

The winning look will be
immediately available

on Amazon, in the Making the Cut store.

A big welcome to our incredible judges.

We have a special guest with us today,

one of the most prominent stylists
in Hollywood

with "A" -list clients
including Gar Shahidi,

Michael B. Jordan,
and Angelina Jolie,

please welcome Jason Bolden.

- Welcome, Jason.
- Hello, Jason.

We're very excited to have you here today.

Thank you.

And creative director of Moschino,
fashion designer Jeremy Scott.

- Hello.
- Hello, Jeremy!

Actress, entrepreneur and creative
director of House of Harlow 1960,

Nicole Richie.

Hi, guys.

- Okay, let's start the fashion show.
- I'm ready.

Ohh!

It's about drama!

It's fabulous!

You just completely
lost the silver textile.

Yeah, it was too much.
After talking to you,

definitely I run to the boutique
and I got new fabrics.

Someone was wearing
a headpiece like that to the Met...

- Yeah.
- I wanna say.

I love this accessible look even more.

It's classic without being old in any way.

So, how did you make the headdresses?

- Zip ties.
- Oh, is that right?

And then I just spray it.

It's a beautiful touch.

That's how you open a show.

Yeah, I mean, it's going to be
hard to top that.

Yeah.

I guess the needle went through,
and there was thread

still in the finger,
so they had to maybe get that out.

- I don't know.
- He's so sweet, Rafael.

- Yeah.
- He is very sweet.

My eyes always light up
when I see his looks coming down.

He always brings
a hint of Disney villain.

- I'm really into these fur pants.
- No, this is great.

This is so hype beast.

Every athlete on the planet
would run towards this.

I would wear this dress.

But I like his first look
more than the second look.

This one needs a bit more drama.

I just had to really rush.

The hem is wonky,
the lining is sewn in weird.

Ehh. Just could be a little cleaner.

The silhouette is kind of
not so very exciting.

It's too short. It should drag.

If you're gonna go for something
like a cloak, let's go for a cloak.

How modern is this?

- It's not not urgent.
- It's not urgent.

The return of the male corset.

- So my design changed a lot.
- Uh-huh.

I'm happy that I did different
quilting on the sleeves and the jacket.

The proportions are off for me.

The ribbon feels very cheap to me.

I think this is all she's gonna give us.

You know, like, it's just always
the middle of the road to me.

I think it's the pink for me
that's making me nauseous.

No, it's not so very exciting.

I love the fabric.

Yeah, the jacquard's beautiful,
the coloring's beautiful over it.

If this goes into production,

how are you going to handle
that shoulder piece?

It's... it's... it's a scarf.

- Oh, it's completely separate.
- Yeah.

- Oh, I wish she'd taken it off.
- Yeah, yeah... ohh.

As the wearable look, I don't know
if the customer would understand.

As far as buying individual pieces,
I wouldn't know what to buy.

Well, yeah.

- She's like a beautiful cloud.
- Mm-hmm.

The front of the top is beautiful.

- I very much like this coat.
- Yeah.

It's like you want to just be in it
and, like, yummy.

Which is very her.

As a stylist, I want to see
that coat over that look.

Yeah.

Hi, Georgia.

I'm very excited about what you've done.

Ohh, well, it was a last-minute change.
Thank you for that.

I believe the French have a word
for this called dejá vù.

- Oh, wow, you have seen this again?
- This is really...

I think this is
a better version of the first dress.

I'm just a little surprised
to see it again.

She loves the rouge.

I'm here for it. The glam is strong.

- Hey.
- Hi, Tim.

Well, I knew which one was you.

Good! That's good.

I mean, Yannik definitely lives
on a different planet.

- Planet Yannik.
- It's definitely...!

Well, I know it's him.

- I'm so happy with it.
- You should be.

It's 100% me.

The skirt is great.
The top is great.

But I love when you break it apart.

- It's also wearable, right?
- Yeah.

And this is also very winter wonderland.

I mean, his styling and just
the look overall is very interesting.

You know, how he does the hair,
how he does the makeup.

I wanna be that girl.

- Great work.
- Thank you, Tim.

- Congratulations.
- Thank you.

I really enjoyed today's fashion show.

It wasn't exactly what I expected,
but there's some real excitement.

All in all, chic, smart, and cool.

- Jeanette.
- Cutting edge!

She made a return
like nobody's business this week.

Yes.

- These are fantastic.
- They're so beautiful.

For me, she gave us wow moments
with both looks.

Yannik, I love.

Yes.

- You can tell it's him.
- Yeah.

Which is important for branding.

So, it's smart.

Yeah, I'm excited to talk
to Yannik today

because we have not
spoken to him yet.

And Gabriella is still skiing this week.

She has yet to be at that
level where it's exciting to me.

It didn't resonate with me.

I'd rather wear that than the muff outfit.

When it comes to Curtis, everything
was just kind of like a cloak.

- Curtis did not show up on this runway.
- No.

And then Georgia, we see
this dress one more time.

- Yeah.
- Right?

- We already know that she can do this.
- Yeah.

Is it going to be one designer,

or should it be two designers
that we're sending home?

Wow, you guys are savages!

Fashion is cruel.

Hi!

- Oh, my gosh!
- Hi!

Hi!

Wow!

So good to see you.

I mean all of you, but especially you.

- Thank you.
- We were a little worried about you.

The needle went through
and then the thread was in?

Yeah.

It just sounds horrible.
We were all like...

- So painful.
- No pain, no gain.

I'm here.

- Keep going.
- Bravo. All for fashion.

We're all very lucky
we got to wear monsieur's Moschino.

Ah, we love it!

Yes, we all hatched out of one egg.

And how excited are you
to have Jason

as our guest judge here today?

Overall, I have to say,
again, you did a wonderful job.

You really are a very talented
group of designers.

We're here to find the designer

who can create
the next great global brand.

Each assignment winner's
accessible look and companion pieces

will be immediately available
at Amazon in the Making the Cut store.

We discussed each of your designs,
and based on this,

we made some decisions,
but they're not necessarily final,

and you should all know that
this conversation now

can change our mind.

Gabriella, we're gonna talk to you.

I wanted to create some pieces
that had some pops of color.

My brand has a lot of denim
incorporated into it,

so I kind of wanted to bring
that element into these pieces.

When I think about the accessible look,

I would have loved to had
part of your corset in there.

And I feel like that part was something
that I felt a little left wanting more.

I was not in love with your first look.

I was like, neh.

I would love more imagination.

For me, as it walked down the runway,

the first thing that jumped
was balance and proportion,

and I felt like that was missed.

Yeah, I would expect it to just either
be above the knee or to the floor.

I definitely struggled with what's
realistic in the time frame.

Maybe I played it a little bit
too safe with the runway look.

Such a big part of fashion is emotional.

That excitement and that
"Oh, my God, what is that?"

And, you know, I didn't feel that
from you this week.

- Judges, have you changed your mind?
- No, I have not.

No.

No.

I have not changed my mind either.

Gabriella...

I'm sorry, but you're not making the cut.

All right.
Thank you guys so much.

This has been so much fun.

It's a bit shocking to hear

they don't think that my pieces
were strong enough for this assignment.

I think my skill level
was pretty up there.

My idea of taste and their idea of taste
is maybe a little bit different,

but I'm excited to go back and design.

We love you, Gabby!

I'm so proud of what
I showed the judges tonight.

And I do want to remind you that,
at any time,

any number of designers
can be sent home.

Curtis, we're going to talk to you next.

My first thought was like sleigh ride.

You know, capes, muffs, hot chocolate.

Like a 1950s Christmas card.

I'm not a fan when you send down
two of the same silhouettes,

just one is short and one is long.

I mean, yes, you gave the earmuffs
and you gave

the muff-muff for your hands,
and that to me, okay,

at least there's something,
but the pieces themselves,

I... I was underwhelmed with them.

It didn't look special and it just felt,
like, not modern, not chic.

I was looking for all those details
that you've been giving us every week.

Because of the muffs and the earmuffs,
like, and everything was closed,

I wasn't able to see any of it,

and it's frustrating because
your work is so spectacular,

but this was just not it.

Yeah.

Curtis, I'm so disappointed.

I'm sorry.

That was boring.

It was not exciting.
It felt like a huge letdown.

I feel like I've represented
myself poorly this week.

Um...

But I'm... I'm hungry. I'm hungry.

I'm... I'm ready to keep going
in this competition.

I know I have so much more
I want to show you,

and I-I know I can do much better
than what I showed today.

The competition's
maybe getting to me a little bit.

I need to recenter myself,
and I will show you

every reason why I'm here
in the first place.

I-I know I can do better,
and I-I will do better.

I do appreciate that you've been
extremely honest about it,

but it doesn't change
how disappointed I am.

Because I know you're talented.
That's why.

I know... I really know I can show
you guys something much better.

We all have off-weeks,
and so I understand.

First impressions are not everything.

- But they're lasting.
- Let me prove you wrong.

I have not changed my mind.

I-I will bring it,
if you give me another opportunity.

I will not let you down.

I know I have a unique
point of view as a designer.

I want an affordable collection
for that queer kid in Nebraska

who needs to go to prom
and can't shop at JCPenney, you know?

I definitely got lost
in a snowstorm this week.

For sure.

Jason, have you changed your mind?

I have, yes, I've changed my mind.

- Nicole, have you changed your mind?
- I have not.

I'm Team Curtis tonight.

Please.

Jeremy, have you changed your mind?

I need a big opportunity like this.

Please.

Yes I have.

Well, it looks like I'm outvoted.

Congratulations.

You're making the cut.

Thank you so much. Really, like...

I'm not gonna waste this opportunity.

I need this so much.

I want this so much,
and I will show it next week.

Thank you for a second chance.

Really.

- Thank you, Curtis.
- Thank you so much.

Gosh, that was scary.

I'm so glad you're here.

Georgia.

I've been waiting for this moment.

Well, we have not gotten
to speak to you yet,

so how's it been for you being here?

It's been amazing.
I've... enjoyed so much.

When the looks first walked down,
the first thing I thought was stunning.

Red carpet. Gorge. That's amazing.

The coat was everything
I imagined to see in Aspen.

I mean, it's just... it was quite lovely.

I loved everything
that you sent down the runway,

but we were all a bit surprised
to see the gold dress.

Right.

What we saw today
was even a more beautiful version

of the first one we've seen,
first runway show.

But why did you not pick
a different color?

I did. I picked a different color,

and then I spoke to Tim about it,
and I-I didn't.

He was like Halloween
with my orange and black,

and I knew that was right,
and I was like, "Oh, gosh!"

I think I was being safe.

You can't do that.

In this competition,
I think it was a dangerous move.

Your accessible look, I think a lot
of people would love to wear that.

- I thought it was beautiful.
- Thank you.

I loved the coat.

I thought it was so beautiful.
You can tell that it's you,

just from all of the details.

It was very "cunty Aspen" to us.

- That means you're a rich bitch.
- Yes.

You're just, like, powerful,
and you know, and like...

- Unbothered. "I'll take it."
- Unbothered!

- Yes! Unbothered and powerful.
- Signature on file.

- Yeah.
- That's so funny.

Georgia, congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you so much.

Yay!

Yannik.

Finally!

Finally! Yes!

Tell us about your brand.

Uh, my brand is called Maison Blanche.

It's an all-gender inclusive,
um, fashion brand.

It's a very conceptual fashion brand.

I think you completely come
from a different planet.

I mean, everything that you've
sent down is always white, correct?

Yeah, Maison Blanche
is French for "White House."

I use colors, but like different.

I would not use colors like,
for instance, Jeremy Scott.

But, uh, yeah.

I'm also very intrigued with all of these
sticky tapes that you have everywhere.

These I have to cover
because it's a little dirty.

Ohh!

- What are the... what's on the...?
- You want to read it?

- Is it English?
- Yeah, it's in English.

It's giving me a little, like,
blurred vision.

"Nonbinary." "Gender fluid."

I can tell that you're shaking
like a little lamb right now.

Yeah, embarrassing.

Which I love
because you look so cool.

Like, you would think, like,
he's not afraid of anything.

But I can tell also
that this means something to you.

You're actually, like,
nervous a little bit.

Yeah, I was really nervous.

It's nice because you seem
so like... whaahh.

I'm very nervous, yes, because...

- He's the sweetest.
- He's the sweetest.

But, you know, you can never judge
a book by its cover. You know?

- Mm.
- Yes.

I loved the first look.

This is big. This has imagination.

You know, it looks like a duvet cover.

It shows all the layers inside,

and the hair and makeup,
the bungee cords,

how you just, you know,
put it all together.

It's a showstopper.

Your accessible look also
was not watered down and boring either.

It's still as exciting.

I can really see every time
you put something down the runway.

I know it's you.

I think the styling is really cool,
interesting, smart.

- You just really nailed it this week.
- Thank you very much.

That was so exciting.

So cool, fresh.

It was a breath of fresh air,
seeing it coming down.

I love that runway look. So good.

- It means a lot.
- Thank you.

Your fashion voice is so loud.
It's so strong, it's so clear.

What came down the runway today,
it was awesome.

The top to the skirt from that first look.

Those things are very sellable.

That second look was every street style

that you can see
on social media right now.

I love it, and I think it's the future.

Thank you.

Yannik, congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you very much.

We're going to talk to one more designer
before we decide who's the winner.

- Thank you, guys.
- Thank you.

Jeanette.

Okay.

- Hello.
- Hello.

I want to make my two models to look
like a goddess that came from the sky,

you know, and they're
walking in... in air, basically.

I start draping. I just let the fabric
practically to talk to me,

and I saw her, she put it on.

That feeling of, like...

you know?

I wanted that on the clothes.
I wanted to translate it.

I absolutely loved
what you sent down today.

And I think you look
beautiful right now,

and I think it was such an amazing...

I'm going to say comeback
from what we saw last time.

It was gorgeous,

inspiring, breathtaking,

chic.

Classic, but still modern.

I love the cohesion and the connection
between your two looks,

but still so separate.

It's exactly what I asked for,
for each assignment,

that we see that connection,

but you give us
two different voices for it,

and you did.

It was just such a huge success.

It makes me feel so vindicated

for our decision after last assignment.

- Bravo. Bravo.
- Thank you.

What you created in one day...
Both looks are absolutely stunning.

Even the accessible look...
It is so beautiful.

What a way to come back.

You really turned it around.

I was so obsessed with it,
I couldn't even believe it.

Like you said, you wanted to be
that girl in the coat.

I wanted to be her.

I want that coat. I want it now.
It was spectacular.

The fabric was beautiful.
It was well done.

The fact that you started this competition
making fabric out of flour

was so interesting... to know
that you have this whole skill also

is just really, really amazing.

It was absolutely out of this world.

That dress...

I looked at everyone and I said,

"She just created the new thing
for the Met Gala,"

and then followed by that-that coat.

The movement, that skirt.

You have created a space
that you don't even recognize yet

for people that look like you
and come from where you're from.

It was divine. Pure, pure, divine.

Favorite look of the night, hands down.

Thank you.

Has anyone changed their mind?

Absolutely not.

- I have not.
- Nope.

Jeanette, congratulations.

You are the winner.

Well, my... my Dad is gonna be very proud.

He has worked so hard to give us

the education that my sister and I,
we have, and...

obviously I do this because...
this is my oxygen.

Like, my life without this,
it's nothing. But also...

it would be nice to let them know
that I won today.

They're going to be very proud.

So, thank you so much. Thank you.

Whoo!

Congrats, babe.

You will do it!

Congratulations.

Good night.

Jeanette, as you know,
your winning look and companion pieces

will be immediately available

in the Making the Cut Store on Amazon.

I'm gonna buy it too.

That is so cute! Me too!

To the rest of you, congratulations,
you're all making the cut.

Yay!
