Making the Cut (2020–…): Season 3, Episode 4 - Episode #3.4 - full transcript

Hello.

Hi, guys.

Welcome back.

How are you all feeling?

Ready to continue.

Jeanette, congratulations on your win.

Yes, um...

Yeah?

I really thought that
the winter assignments...

I showed two great looks,

and I didn't win again.

So, I'm afraid that nobody understands
what I'm doing.

One thing is for sure...

The right group of designers
is still here.

- Definitely.
- You all have such

a distinct and unique voice.

But being able to work with others is
essential to success in this industry.

That's why we have something very exciting
planned for your next assignment.

Yannik's getting it.

Actually, I don't think we've ever done
anything like this

- on Making the Cut.
- We haven't.

But this idea is perfect for
this point in the competition.

For your next assignment,
you will be collaborating

as one big design team.

All seven of you will work together

to create a seven-look,
cohesive collection.

Oh, my God.

This is so crazy.

I'm so happy about that,
because I love to collaborate.

I saw in the eyes of many other designers

"this is not something that I want to do".

- Whoa.
- Wow.

You, as a group, will decide
the cohesive thread.

But we also need to see a piece

of each and every one of you
in this collection.

This is the halfway point
in the competiton.

This is the time we need to see
what you can do.

And speaking of time...

Oh, no.

You will have only seven hours
for this assignment.

Seven hours?

I mean, are you kidding me?

You have seven hours,
and that includes

our very brief talk that we will have
and your model fittings.

But not the fabric shopping tonight.

The good thing is it's not seven hours
starting now.

- Are you nervous?
- Yeah.

After every elimination,
you get more and more nervous.

It's harder every time.

Um, but me, in particular,
I was in the bottom last time,

so I definitely feel like eyes are on me
and I have to redeem myself.

All seven looks should be accessible.

Don't over-think or over-design.

Just focus and deliver.

We believe in all of you.

Unfortunately, one or more of you
will be going home.

Good luck.

Mwah. See you tomorrow.

Bye!

What's our throughline?
Like, what do

- we all have in common?
- Yeah.

We have to be, like, cohesive.

It has to be cohesive.

We are so different.

I think we should go for dresses.

Sorry.

I don't like to do dresses.

Dresses are possible in seven hours.

But it's not a topic. It's not a theme.

We could do, like, party dresses.

And everybody was like
dresses and dresses and dresses.

- It's not something that I want to do.
- What about swimwear?

No.

We could do day wear.

We need to have an idea
more specific than day wear.

Day wear is so boring.

I think something that's
interesting, but everyone can pull off.

I have this one topic in my head.

I'm just really scared to say it out loud,
but we don't have time for this.

We need to have an idea.

I think we do it like this...
Where are they going?

- Funeral.
- Ooh, I love that.

I love that. I love that.

I like the funeral.

It's so easy to make it clear.
I know exactly with funeral

the color scheme
and how the looks have to look.

You're not going half-naked to a funeral.

Do we do black as the major color?

Like, I need to go black.

I'm really scared, because this is

the first time I'm not working with
shades of white.

So, let's do 70% black.

- At least one look.
- At least, yeah.

I kind of love the idea of this
campy Italian funeral, very over the top.

Who died?

- Giovanni.
- Giovanni!

- The death of Giovanni.
- Giovanni.

The mob boss.

We're like Italian mafia funeral.

We're gonna give him drama.

- I love it.
- So excited about this.

But I still don't have idea
what to do exactly.

Yeah, just pull
some things that speak to you.

It's so fun
to work with you guys.

I need to do something different.

I need to show them that I'm not
the one-trick the judges thought.

I need to take a risk
with a new version of my work.

We're all a bit surprised
to see the gold dress.

It's called deja vu.

Let me try this. Let me see.
I want to do something different.

I'm using denim,
which I never used before,

but it gives a modernity to it.

I'm gonna take a risk, whaaa!

Oh my God, I have a drama. Ohh.

I think we should think about
who's going to this funeral,

and we all do
characters from the funeral.

Yes, everybody does a character.

Yeah! I can design for the priest.

I'm the girlfriend he was cheating on.

Yeah!

I'm the crazy wife.

We have to rewrite this down.

- Okay. Whoo!
- Oh, my God.

- I love this idea!
- Super fun.

Yanni, what's your person?

The mistress, the mistress.

I'm doing, like,
the queer son who's, like,

wait, like, finally getting
the inheritance he's always wanted.

- Okay.
- I'm doing the drug addict son.

- Yes.
- I'm gonna be

- the best friend of the...
- Yeah! The best best friend.

Like, you know, we gossip a lot.

- What's yours?
- I love the idea who killing girl.

- The killing girl?
- The murderer.

-Yeah, yeah
-That's a good idea.

We're gonna rock it.

- I love it.
- Yeah, I love it too.

It's really funny how perfectly
these characters represent our brands.

Sienna is that dramatic widow showing up.

My clothes... like, I'm very much

that, like, spoiled queer kid,
you know, who loves fashion.

I think I'm ready to get drunk now.
Let's go.

Yannik is the mistress, like...
of course!

Guys, I have idea. Let's all go
to a machine and do a black thread.

Instead of our seven hours,
we do it now.

So good idea.

So, seven machines here, too.
We can all sit together.

Okay guys, I need to work on
a machine which is higher, please.

So, guys, just pick one machine.

So, I'm gonna sew here, okay?

Can I? Can I?

Yeah. We all share.
We all share.

- No.
- Like, it's just...

you don't want to come back
and realize you've been

stitching at the wrong length
the entire time.

Okay. Sienna, Georgia, Curtis.

- Yannik.
- Fine.

We only have 7 hours,

so we decided
everybody has their own sewing machine.

- Yeah, let's hear that sound!
- Whoo!

That's the sound of teamwork.

It saves time, and as well,

you can adjust the machines to your needs.

And if someone messed up their machine,
they have to fix their machine,

not switching the machine
and getting in the way of someone else.

Machine is ready,
and we're ready for tomorrow.

Okay, guys, let's leave.
Let's go.

I'm ready to go sketch.

Oh my God,
we're such a good team, guys.

I'm so excited.

Hi ya. I'm going to sketch now.

I'm going to do something that hopefully
gives me some brownie points.

I'm going to do
a two piece... blouse and a trouser.

I'm going to use denim fabric
to make a priest. I need to push my game.

I want to win, obviously.
But being here on Making the Cut...

This is, like, almost the toughest
thing I've done in my business.

I'm Georgia Harding, and I'm a sculptural
womenswear designer from London.

I create three-dimensional pieces
that are wearable.

I focus on pleating and surface treatments
as well as embossing.

To keep a brand identity
is very important.

Keeping consistent and having
something that is unique...

That's the challenge in itself.

I've been in business for about ten years,
and I've really grown my brand

from couture
to being a bit more wearable.

One of my best sellers.

And now I have a customer base,
and I'm making money.

I'm selling like £1000 a day.

I've dressed celebrities.
I've dressed Lady Gaga...

Beyoncé, which is amazing.

Apollo, hello.

I have an amazing family.
Leaving my son, Apollo, behind...

It's really hard.

Look at them!

But Making the Cut is
an experience of a lifetime,

and I really want to win it for my son.

- Night, night.
- Night, night!

It's a priest.

I'm dead.

What I see right now is
only evening wear winning.

What I want to do is

prove the judges that it's just
not evening wear that is exciting,

so I created this
Renaissance-inspired manolo vest.

I do feel like

I am the next global brand,
and I hope the judges can see me.

That's it, good night. Mwah.

Putting all the stuff that I have to take
with me. I don't want to forget anything.

Today we have elimination.

Right now I'm nervous, but I'm...
I'm not gonna have those nerves stop me.

So, now I'm leaving.

Winning Making the Cut... it will
impact everything in not just my life,

my family's life, my husband's life,

because everything's gonna change.

That's what I want.

So, that's that. Let's see what
happens today with the challenge.

Hey. Miss you.

We all miss you too.

Dad, your hair is so white you're blending
into that cabinet back there.

We have your fashion tees.

Oh yeah,
my early, early days of fashion.

It's so nice to see my family.

When you're in the middle
of this and you're so emotional,

it's just so nice to see
someone who loves you unconditionally.

There's seven left.
Everyone's a little too talented.

It's kind of scary.

This journey of being an artist...
It's overwhelming and scary.

Everything is at stake right now.

I... I quit my serving job
and I'm a paycheck to paycheck,

so I have no form of income right now.
All my eggs are in this basket.

That's how much I believe in this though,

and how much I believe in myself
and in my brand.

Good luck and we love you, and we
know you're gonna do great.

Thanks. I love you guys.

Here we go.

And guys don't forget
it's a teamwork thing here.

Teamwork.

Did anyone take that dotted tulle?

I think I'm gonna
do pants in that and then shirt in this.

- Six. Like under seven yards.
- Mm-hmm.

- How many do you need?
- Okay. Seven.

- You need seven?
- But I can do less.

Take this little stripes to... thank you.

Everybody choose the black fabrics,
but I create a look with stripes

because she is the killer girl.

And if she's discovered,
she's ready to go to the jail.

On the shoulder, we have like a target.
Is very fashion.

This assignment is a challenge for me,
because we have just seven hours

without seamstresses and I really
don't know how to sew so well.

Oh, my God. So hurt.

In the last assignment, the needles
broke in the middle of my nails...

and I need to go
to the hospital

to take the needle off.

That is really traumatizing,
but I really want so much to stay here

until the final.
And my only way is to sit

in that chair and sew your clothes
and pray for God to... to help you.

Guys, I'm not sure
I will use a little bit red.

Ohh. I love that for you.

Definitely blood red
is a good one to use.

Yeah I want her, like,
secretly celebrating.

That's great, Sienna.

How long have I been sewing
without a bobbin?

Oh, my God. So weird.
Me working with black? Jesus.

Do you think it's too risky
when I go completely deconstructed?

Do you have the time?

- Yes. I mean for accessibility.
- Could it be made in production?

Yeah.

- Perfect.
- Okay.

I'm going to do the mistress.

She's obviously
coming sexy to the funeral.

I'm going to do a deconstructed
trench coat with a huge veil.

It takes much more time
to do this kind of look,

but I just want to make sure
that this look is rocking in black.

I'm obsessed with this assignment.

I think the idea we came up with
is hilarious.

I'm doing, like, the spoiled gay,
sort of like designer lover,

who, um, you know,
shows up late, sunglasses on.

He's just there to see, like,
what he's getting in the will.

So I'm doing Italian, patchy, 70s,
sort of Harlequin bellbottom

and then this shirt that
starts with the same brocade

and just, like, disintegrates into a veil.

Oh my God, you've already made a dress.

That looks beautiful.

Thank you.

My character is the best friend
of the wife that just lost her husband.

She's a little bit gossipy.

She's a little bit over the top.
So even if she's gonna go to the funeral,

she's not gonna be, like,
you know, nice and quiet.

Oh, my God. My thread breaks

all the time.

Check the needle
if it's the right... if it's straight.

I don't look any problem.

I don't feel like evening
wear is very global as a brand,

but I decided to go with sequins

just to, you know,
a little bit of this glamor shit.

- That looks gorgeous.
- Yeah?

- Yeah.
- Thank you.

- I like this piece.
- Sculptural.

Super cool.

- I hurt my finger!
- What?

I was trying to fix
the machine's thread tension

because it cut the thread,
and I cut my finger.

- You broke...
- A big piece of skin.

It should be like,
"Making the Cut Your Fingers."

Yeah.

We only have seven hours and

I feel desperate to finish this garment.

Poor you, gorgeous.

Different people
perceive me different in the past.

I always struggle
because not everybody understood

what I'm going for with my fashion,

and I don't know
if the judges are going to like it.

I just want to stay true
to who I am and what I do.

- Okay, there, darling?
- Have to be okay.

Let's see if this works.

No, it doesn't.

Okay, I'm changing machines.
This is going shit.

At the beginning we said,
"These are all our sewing machines.

If you break the sewing machine,
you have to fix it."

I think Sienna's taking
Yannik's sewing machine.

I know that's a rule we all agreed on,

but I have no choice.

- Hello.
- Hi, Tim.

- Good morning, everyone.
- Hi, Tim.

I'm here to check in with you.
It's gonna be a flyby.

I don't think I've ever seen
so much black fabric in my entire life.

Oh my God,
wait till you hear our idea.

We going to Italian funeral.

An Italian funeral?

Why is it an Italian funeral?

Drama.

So, Giovanni died.
It's called La Morte di Giovanni.

He was a mob boss,
and we're all different characters.

But each character sort of
represents us as a brand.

- You know, like...
- Okay.

How our person would go
to this family event.

I love this idea, frankly. Georgia?

- So, I'm the priest.
- You're the priest.

- Yeah.
- Okay.

So, I have this to represent the priest,

and I wanted to make
a structural suit with a fluid sleeve.

So, it's also wearable.
And I've never used denim before,

- so this is...
- Oh, it's denim?

- Yeah.
- I think it's beautiful.

- Thank you.
- Sienna.

My girl is the grieving wife.

- This is my design.
- Okay.

I'm thinking high collar,
loose ruffles, like, a shirt and dress.

And this is all tulle, but it's all black.

And the red represents
she's secretly celebrating.

Oh.

I love it.

I like it, too. All right.

I am the best friend of the wife.

I know she's going to a funeral,
but she's already thinking about, like,

"I'm gonna bring the drama,
because I know I never liked him

and I know all the stuff that
he has been doing to my best friend."

- Oh.
- So he... she doesn't really...

It gets more and more interesting.

Then, the fabric will drape...

Not too short because,
I mean, it's a funeral.

And I know she didn't care about the guy,
but still, like...

I don't know. If it's really short,
It could be a 'fuck you'.

Well, that can be, too.

- I love that.
- That is what it is.

- Yeah.
- Yannik.

- I'm going to dress the mistress.
- The mistress?

Yes.

She is going to wear
a deconstructed trench coat dress.

- Okay.
- With overdramatic, huge veil

- with a long train.
- So, she's really mourning.

- She's really mourning.
- Her Sugar Daddy is gone.

Exactly. But she obviously
has a nice leg moment,

- so she's super sexy.
- Okay.

- All right. Raphael.
- And I am the killer girl.

- And you're attending the funeral?
- Yes.

I go to check to see the guy's died,
and I arrive with like a target.

She is the target point.
She's the target.

She used white and black, so if she
discovered, she can go to the prison.

It's a couture prison.

- Yeah.
- Well, I love your whole notion

about the target,
and this fabric is definitely you.

- Yeah.
- So, Curtis.

- Who are you?
- We're their sons. The two brothers.

My brother is sort of like
spoiled rich kid fashionista.

I'm doing this sort of, like, mix
and match, almost Harlequin bellbottom.

- Okay.
- And then I'm gonna layer the tulle.

So, it'll be sort of
this veiled sleeveless button-up shirt.

- Okay.
- Nicole called me out for not,

you know, having all my details
that she knows me for,

so I wanted to make sure
I've got all these details that are just

very well-tailored,
that it's all just, you know...

- Perfectly finished.
- And perfectly finished.

- You know...
- Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

- Markantoine.
- My brother... my son is the addict guy.

He's a rock star.
He's, like, always like "whatever,"

so I decided to go, like,
with this glam rock style for him.

So, I decided to work with
the sequin fabric, with on top of it

- just the vest.
- And the necklines a V?

- Yeah.
- Yeah, maybe open him up a little more.

- Yeah.
- I mean, he's a rock star,

and it's his father's funeral.

- That's a good idea.
- I mean, a little vulgarity here

- is perfectly permissible.
- Of course.

But the pant can't just be something

extremely basic,
and all the attention goes to the top.

The judges are going to
look at everything head to toe.

I mean, remember,
there are only seven of you now.

You want to give the judges the most
difficult responsibility they've ever had.

- So, no throw away items, okay?
- Of course, that's...

You know, I really think
this theme is brilliant.

- I was alarmed at first, but...
- It's Yannik's idea.

- Yeah.
- It's smart.

It means you can really have your own

identity within the larger rubric
of the cohesiveness of the funeral.

- Yeah.
- You all get back to work...

- Okay.
- And I'm wildly enthusiastic.

- Yay! Thank you!
- Alright, carry on everyone.

Yes.

- Oh my God, the mouth on Tim.
- I know.

Tim proposed
to elevate the pant,

so I wanted to add, like,
something that make it more rough.

No men's looks have won this
competition

and I think I did, like,
something super cool.

I love Markantonie's look,
but I don't really think to spray paint

is very smart.
It's not very accessible.

I thought we all going
to have one machine today.

- Hmm?
- Yeah. Just to avoid that machine.

It's really not working.

We have this agreement last night,

and Sienna broke her machine somehow

and sat onto my machine
and she is not leaving.

- Guys...
- I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

I thought we all gonna...

But this machine is
not working really well.

- That's why I changed to the other...
- Amazing.

That's why I did that.

I'm getting really stressed out
because the deconstructed trench coat

is a lot of work.
And because someone else is

breaking the rules, I have to break
the rules to be able to finish.

And again, it's unthreaded.

I just want to sit on a machine
and every time thread in it.

I feel the same way.

I thought we're not gonna
change the machines today.

- Wasn't that deal?
- That was the deal.

Here. Use this.

I tried to make her know
that I'm really angry.

And I think she knows what's going on,
but she's ignoring me.

She just doesn't care.

If you have a deal
and nobody gives a freaking shit,

makes me so angry.

This is a team challenge,
and it's, you know, team player.

We said yesterday you take care
of your machine.

And what the ____ are they doing?

Jack up every machine so nobody can work.

I don't wanna be mean,
and, in the same time, it's a competition.

And I, for sure, have never
been so close to $1,000,000.

Georgia, you need to do that
on a machine?

Yeah, I want this machine.
Do you wanna take the thread?

I'll give you thread.

There.

I can't help it. Sorry.

I'm on the machine.
This is my machine from the beginning.

- Yeah, my machine is...
- That's fine. You can use it

- whenever I'm not using it.
- Sienna is on my machine.

- You know? Like...
- That's okay.

I'm not going to come off
the machine 'cause you need it.

I've sacrificed being here
without my son.

I'm not going to self-sabotage
because I give you my machine.

Point is only those four tables
are elevated, so I can only sew

on those four tables because
my legs don't fit on the other machines.

So I'm pissed.

Models!

Boom.

- You won?
- Yeah, we... well, we did it.

I was in the bottom two last time.
I was like...

so this is like my last chance maybe.

We have to work together, and they
probably thought we would kill each other.

I have pretty much nothing done.

Me too.

I have nothing to wear
for my model on the fitting.

Can you turn around?

That's great.

It's cool.

I think it's hot.

I think a break is cute.

- Yeah, I think so.
- Just for that boop boop.

I'm going to do some backcombing
in the hair so her hair is

gonna be off her face and really elevated.

So, I'm gonna pretend to do a hat,
put it with her hair,

- and then I'm gonna put a little cross...
- You will be the Pope with your hair.

- Yeah. Exactly.
- All right. Sounds good.

Okay, that's it.
Okay, let's... the dress.

It's a little tight.

In the thigh?

Oh, those thighs are really tight, yeah.
Let me fix that.

I'll... I'll redo it.

Whew.

My head's kind of spinning
a little bit because

I didn't really plan for refitting.
So, I'm literally racing the clock.

Can't believe judging panel
is tonight. Bloody hell.

So I'm going to make her, like, look
like more Italian. Traditional wife look.

A braid on the side
going into a low bun. Okay.

Peeing almost my pants.

I'm sorry for freaking out.

Oh my God,
I haven't two patterns yet.

Don't worry about the buttons.
Just pin them.

- You sure?
- Yeah.

I'd get the dress made first.

You're the only one with color.
I kind of should have done color, but hey.

I thought I can finish ahead of time.

But what happened this morning
really make me be late again.

I hope I can finish it.

- It's an addict hangover rock star.
- So, messy hair.

- This is perfect for that.
- It's good. It just needs to be straight.

I don't know if I have time.

She's the mistress.

She's the sexy mistress
that everyone's wondering who she is.

Yeah. Lashes would be nice.

Black around the eyes.
So, we have 24/7 Urban Decay.

- Perfect. Make her sexy.
- Super sexy.

I forgot about the armhole.
She... yeah, it doesn't have anything.

How much time do we have?
15 minutes? Holy hell.

I need to do in 15 minutes a veil. Yeah,
just just have like the show.

- Yeah, use the
- Can we just have, like,

the show very dark.

Right. No light.

Okay, this has got to be done.
Ohh, so close and yet so far.

- How's it going, Sienna?
- Not good.

- Not good?
- Running out of time.

Okay, I think these pants are done enough.

She is the tar...

Tar... targetty girl.

I'm so excited. Like, target girl.
You understand me?

Yes, absolutely.

Uh... Red lipstick.
She is the target girl.

This is the liquid lip bond. It's amazing.

Put the veil on. I decided to
go with this one. It's super long.

I need to... sew something.

I had to sew by hand
with the arm hole, like, crazy on her.

That looks really cool.

It's secured to walk?

- Um, I think so.
- Yeah?

- How are you?
- I'm hemstitching bottoms.

Okay.

Because they didn't do a fitting,
I do the fitting in that moment.

It has to be super fast.

Heidi really likes a leg moment,
so I cut one piece

so that when she walks,
a little of her leg is showing.

Yeah, it looks hot.

I'm so happy with this look.

I feel like this is the first time
I'm really representing

my style
since the evening wear assignment.

- They look like brothers.
- Yeah. They are brothers.

I was so stressful this one.
And I was so sorry to Yannik.

I know. He was really pissed off
for some reason, but don't worry.

I'm shaking.

Beautiful.

- That is time.
- Perfect.

So, you can say goodbye...

Enjoy the show, guys.

Oh my gosh.
I can't wait to see what they did.

I can't wait for you to see.

It's spectacular.

- Hello.
- Hi!

- Hi. Hello.
- Welcome to our fashion show.

Judges, thank you so much
for being here today.

Jeremy and Nicole... big, big welcome.

And welcome to our special guest,

Tik Tok's most fashionable
content creator, Wisdom Kaye.

- Hi, Heidi. How are you? You too.
- Nice to meet you.

What? Wait, what?

Wisdom Kaye, you know,
he's got a great sense of style

and his, like, Tik Tok videos are amazing.

I think he's already a fashion icon.

Well, we're going to
do things a little different today.

- We are.
- So, the designers worked

in one seven-person team.

They worked together to
conceptualize and create a cohesive,

accessible seven-look collection.

They only had seven hours,
but I think you're going to be

very pleasantly surprised.

And there's a theme to the collection,

but I want you to learn about it
from the designers.

Although they worked
in one big design team,

there will only be one winner,

and the winning look obviously will be
immediately available

in Amazon's Making the Cut Store.

- All right. Let's start the show.
- Let's do it, Heidi.

Oh my gosh, that's you, that's you.

- I see a church theme, yes?
- Priestly moment.

When you see the midrift,
I couldn't help that.

Oh, no, that's all right.

Actually, I think
having a little sex appeal is

a good thing and rather tantalizing.

It's interesting in that
I cannot see Georgia in this.

- Can you?
- No, you're right.

- It's kind of more modern.
- Yeah.

- Right? Very cool.
- Mm-hmm.

- Sienna.
- This just looks beautiful.

- She's the wife.
- The poor wife.

- No, she's not poor.
- No.

She's happy.

I can see that this is Sienna,
because she loves the lace.

- Yeah.
- In a goth, religious kind of way.

- I wonder if it is a religious theme.
- Yeah, right?

And this is beautiful, too.
It's kind of feminine, flirty.

I'm not wild about it.
I don't like the middle.

I like the shape of it.

I like the way it kind of
flows and drapes and the skirt.

I like this little detail
of the red and the black.

I would wear it to dinner,
maybe, in December.

- Which day in December?
- Like 9th.

This is Curtis.

Okay, I'm loving
this oxidized hardware.

Just a little gold this time.

I mean, this is
a cool look for a guy.

It's a very cool look.

I've only known you
for approximately four minutes,

but I do feel like if this were
nine feet longer, you would wear it.

- I would, yeah.
- Okay.

I can't tell what's happening
with the pants.

Half-and-half pants.

Yes, you're correct.
One side is shiny and the other is not.

I think he really brought it
this week. Like, I think...

He told us that he would, yes.

He promised us.

Markantoine's.

The next brother,
the rock star, is coming.

These pants also have
some little cut details going on.

I really like that touch.

I think it's naturally going to appear
like a regular black pant.

I have to hear from him before
I make a decision on how I feel.

- I'm curious what the theme is.
- I know.

I mean, first we thought
it was something religious.

Is it 'black widow'?

- Or is it... is it... it's a funeral.
- This would be a very sassy funeral.

- Yeah.
- Funeral wear.

Maybe. Wait, I think sassy funeral
is really what it should be called.

Sassy funeral.

I think we're on to something
with the sassy funeral, you guys.

She did a gorgeous job today.

- In seven hours.
- Oh, wow, that's true.

[Heidi[ I can see, again,
you know, the gray thing.

- I love that fabric.
- Yeah. Sold.

I love how the headpiece is
kind of covering the arm.

It kind of looks like two separate things.

It's a sleeve and a headpiece.

It's really good.

- Oh yeah, that's yours.
- Yeah, the mistress.

- I love this.
- I love this.

First time using black?

Mm-hmm. But I think it was
a huge success.

Yeah.

Is that a garter?
You put a little elastic there.

Yeah, a leg moment
just for Heidi. Just for Heidi.

I love how kind of
deconstructed the dress is.

I love all the angles.
I love the uneven hem.

It's very cool.

I cannot believe this was done
in seven hours.

It's just so different.

The murderer is coming.

Ooh, check her out.

I think the dress is gorgeous.
I would totally wear that dress.

- I think it's beautiful.
- I can see you wearing it.

Oh. No, it's pants.

I think this would sell like hotcakes.
Easy, you can fit many different sizes.

It's, like, nice and flowy
and has beautiful angles.

The sleeve detail is really well done.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

I don't think it's for everyone though.

- No?
- I'm gonna be honest with you, Heidi.

It's not for everyone.

It's already over.
I don't want it to be over.

I want more.

- What a spectacular show.
- Whoo!

And it's cohesive.

- Poor Giovanni
-Rest in peace.

I think Yannik's is just so beautiful.

The fact that he went black
and still nailed it was cool too.

People would get that, you know?

I do think that's exciting that...
To try to, like, give them some fashion.

I was actually thinking
Markantoine also is good for

male, female.
Like, I would wear that.

I liked Rafael's, too,
because of the color.

When you go online, I would stop on that.

This would definitely be the one
that would get, like, the most likes.

- It reads more than the others.
- Yeah.

- No one is, like, terrible.
- No one is terrible.

Thank goodness, and that's great.

Which makes it harder for us.

I mean, I would almost send
Markantoine home, which was your favorite.

- No!
- I know, I know.

My least favorite was
that Sienna lace concoction.

- Sienna's dress in the middle just went...
- Something is losing me, yeah.

- She's on the bottom of my list.
- She's on the bottom, but...

- I don't think it's horrible.
- No, but, no.

I've seen her do
so many other beautiful things...

- Yeah.
- That it's like, "Hmm."

This was also about the collaboration,

so I feel like there's a lot to learn.

- What if someone was really naughty?
- And what their theme is.

- Although I think we got it.
- Funerals.

A sex funeral.

- There's plenty of those.
- Alright, let's bring them out.

- Good evening, guys.
- Hello.

Wisdom Kaye is here.

Hi.

I must applaud, I must.

I mean, I'm in shock... what you guys
have done in only seven hours.

I feel like from now on, seven hours only.

Heidi, no!

I feel like when you have no time,
you don't overthink things.

Tim, what do you think?

- I'm in awe as well.
- I want everything!

- Yeah!
- Okay, I must know what is the theme.

- Italian mafia funeral.
- Italian mafia. Okay.

I said a sassy sex funeral.

Whose idea was it to do a funeral?

Mr. All-white.

Tell us everything.

We chose the topic of a funeral
and we each chose a character,

- and I went for the mistress.
- You were the mistress. Okay.

Yes. Understand.

I had the idea of creating a deconstructed
trench coat and give it a leg moment.

I was really stressed, but I'm actually
happy with the results for seven hours.

So what happens
when you're under pressure?

Today, I got loud.

- Yeah?
- I was pissed

because we had a deal last night

that everybody's responsible for their
own machine and not switch machine.

And so I got a little...

Let me just look in some eyes.

Ohh, it was Sienna.

My machine was not working on my fabric.
He's not there.

- I took the machine and I'm so sorry.
- There was a lot of pressure.

I thought your look was very cool.

- So out there and modern. She was sexy.
- I absolutely loved it.

I didn't even take into account
that it took seven hours.

Like, that piece looked
extremely well done.

I absolutely loved it.

It was smart and chic and modern.
Still had a wearable quality.

It was probably my favorite.

I'm a huge fan of
deconstructed garments myself,

so I just think the overall silhouette

and how you presented the piece
was really, really good.

What?

- I was nervous. Really nervous.
- Really?

- Yes.
- It's so cute.

Well, Yannik, congratulations.
You're making the cut.

- Thank you, guys.
- Okay, Rafael.

Okay. Everybody has choose
wife, son, and a mistress,

and "Oh my God, who I am?"
And, okay, I am the murderer.

You do feel like a murderer to me.

She needs to impress.
And if she was discovered,

she's ready to go to the prison.

Because of that,
I choose work with stripes and...

Yeah.

Because she's going to prison.

Yes, I loved your look.
It was beautiful.

Two piece. I think it would sell a lot.
It's a show stopper. You did a great job.

I thought it was bold.
It was, like, "Look at me. I'm here."

I appreciated the pants underneath.

Once I saw her kind of
walking away and seeing that,

I thought that was a nice touch.

I do think if I'm scrolling
through social media,

this is, like, the look I'd stop on,

maybe zoom in,
and then maybe leave a like.

It's a very nice look.

Listening to you tell the story just
makes me see it in a whole different way,

and I think it's so cool.
If I ever go to jail, this is...

Well, I've... I've been to jail.
But if I go again,

this is what I would like to wear.

So, next time I get arrested,
I'll call you.

- Now I want to know why she was in jail.
- A few reasons.

None being murder.

- No murder.
- No murder.

Congratulations, Rafael.
You're making the cut.

Thank you.

Curtis, we would like to talk to you next.
All right, tell us about your look.

So when we were picking our characters,
I thought obviously my brand would be,

like, the spoiled, fashion, gay son.

You know, had to, like,
leave the yacht for this event.

A lot to prove this week.

You know, I didn't want
to create anything drab.

I was making sure I was, like, putting
a lot of details into construction,

the pattern, the garment. I wanted to
create something extremely confident.

So, as I'm making it, I was, like,
reminding myself that I'm that bitch.

It took me a minute
to even figure out that

the fabric on the pants
was different on each leg,

and I thought that was very cool.

You really brought it this week,
and I'm really glad

- I convinced everybody to keep you.
- Thank you so much.

I loved it, too.

I know you showed it on a male model,
but I would love this too. Love the pants.

Love the top, showing a little stomach.
What a way to come back.

I could see these pieces just, like,
you know, anywhere when I'm shopping.

And I can see myself adding it to
a cart and bringing them home.

I like the pant leg being asymmetrical.
I thought that was nice.

There's all these great details.

So, thank you for putting the effort
coming back to us.

Curtis, congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you. Thank you so much.

We're going to talk to one more person
before we make up our mind

on who's going to win this one.

Jeanette, tell us about the look
that you showed us today.

Well, I was the wife's best friend.

- Mm-hmm.
- Ah.

This guy used to cheat
on her best friend all the time.

So, for her this is more of a celebration.

- She has to do it like with a big dress.
- You're so good at draping.

It's obviously a wonderful talent
that you have, but that was beautiful.

I also really did enjoy
the sort of headpiece to sleeve.

- Was that all one?
- No, I just wanted some drama.

Right.

The draping was amazing.

I think you really have
an eye and feel for fabric.

And that neckline was so beautiful.
I have chickens, and I have one chicken.

Her name is Queen Latifah,
and she's about to die.

- Oh, I'm sorry.
- Is this what you're gonna wear?

I would like to wear this
to Queen Latifah's funeral.

It would be my honor.

And thinking about your brand
and you talking about draping,

dots all of a sudden are
connecting for me with you

and what you've done again.

Jeanette, congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you.

So, we're going to just, right here,
decide who the winner is.

- Jeremy, who do you think should win?
- Yannik.

Nicole, who do you think should win?

- Yannik.
- Wisdom, who do you think should win?

Gonna have to go with Yannik.

Thank you.

Yannik, you are the winner.
Congratulations.

Thank you so much.

So, I... I was really,
from the beginning on, very scared

that my aesthetic
is gonna be misunderstood.

It's often misunderstood,
and I really appreciate

that people understanding what I'm doing.

Well, Yannik, your look
and companion pieces

will be available right now
in the Making the Cut Store on Amazon.

All right, let's talk to Georgia.

- Hi, everyone.
- Tell us about your look.

She was the priest, so I...
I did a sew-in box pleat.

I've never used denim before
and I thought I'd do something different,

because I did the gold dress twice.
Obviously, no color yet.

I did not guess that that was yours,
because it was so different

than what you normally
sent down the runway.

It was beautiful.

I thought the box pleating was a smart way
to go from your signature way of pleating

to something simplified and bold.

I think it was a perfect way
to create this character of a priest,

especially with the details
like the collar.

It's minimal but also still eye-catching.

It was smart and cool. Like, you were
finally giving me another version of you

that was on par with
everything else that you've been doing.

Thank you so much.

Congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you.

I'm super happy I took a risk.

The judges loved it, so I'm feeling great.

Markantoine.

- Bon soir.
- Bon soir.

Tell us what you showed us today.

My character was
the rock star son, the addict kid.

So, I wanna put something out there.

- Sexy, sparkly.
- Had me already at "sparkle."

I don't know.
It's the German in me, I guess.

I wanted to be
the girl wearing that with heels.

You know, I love the pants.
There was also a lot of detail.

I like the look a lot.

You know, it's really interesting,
because I did think it was a funeral.

And then your look came down,
and I was like whoa, horny.

Maybe it's not a funeral.
But now I'm listening to you talk,

and it does make sense to me.

This seemed like a vintage
tuxedo vest mixed with a kimono

and then that splash of paint.

- I was here for it.
- I think it was really, really nice.

I feel like if somebody were
to maybe go for the whole look,

pants would be something they could
probably style like 1,000 different ways.

Congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you.

Sienna, we're going to talk to you next.

Okay.

Tell us about your look.

Um, my look is for the grieving wife...
That maybe she has different side of her.

She probably secretly celebrating,
and so I was just using layers of tulles

to represent her characteristic
having different aspects.

And also I'm using red.

She cannot have her true feelings
about this funeral.

She's taking over her husband's money,

and she's a little bit evil.

So, I feel like

Today I'm working on Yannik's machine...

I became her.

I'm so shamed of myself.
I'm so bad. I'm feeling so bad.

Drama level, one through ten,
just be honest, what was it?

- Is it a ten?
- It's a soft four.

For me, inside, was a ten.

I liked your look.

It was not one of my favorites just
because I always love seeing more skin.

So, for me, she was just
a little too hidden in there.

But other than that,
I thought it was beautiful.

I love that you were using
the plumeria and the lace

and mixing those, which I thought was kind
of unexpected to put those two together.

And then when we got around here,
I was a little bit, like, lost.

I really appreciate everything

that you have put out
in these past few weeks,

and I did know immediately
that this was you.

I think that you're very talented.

- Thank you.
- What I was picking up on was that

maybe you bit off a little bit more
than you could chew for these hours.

I liked some of the elements
that you chose to present.

The amalgamation of them all,
I was not the most excited about.

My brand style is not 'less is more',

and it's not 'more is more'.

My aesthetic's 'covered up'.
And she's elegant,

she's dangerous, and she is sophisticated.

I didn't design for, you know,
a cheap woman on the street.

I designed for the character.

Mm-hmm.

- Judges, have you changed your mind?
- No, I have not.

No.

No.

Sienna...

Congratulations.
You're making the cut.

Thank you.

- So, all of you are making the cut.
- Yes.

I'm so happy about this.

We just loved what you all did so much,
and I love sending people home.

This means two or more
will have to go next time.

Wisdom, thank you so much
for joining us.

- Of course. Thank you for having me.
- Well done, everyone.

Thank you.

Next time on Making the Cut...

For your next assignment,

you will be creating
a festival wear collection.

- Maybe you should do another dress gold.
- If I wanna be eliminated.

This is crazy.

Looking around
at the other designers' looks,

I'm really nervous.

- It's not even flattering.
- It's not cool. It's ugly.

- Okay, yes.
- This is exciting.

I could see walking through
Coachella's fields wearing that.

This week, it just wasn't there.

You wanna know
what I wrote in my book? Nothing!

I'm pissed off.
