[SCHOOL BELL RINGS]

Yes, science class!
Do you know what this means?

Yeah. We study science.
It's my favorite class.

Mine, too.

Rephrase. It's also
our last class of the day.

And that means we can head
for the beach after this!

Wait, let me check
my day planner.

Ooh, I have two free hours!

I have even more
than that. I'm in.

Hmm, if only there was a place
for you to sit while I teach.

Oh, how about our desks?

Ah, wonderful idea, Emma.

She meant to do that.

Today we're talking
about dolphins.

Dolphins, ocean, beach!

Ooh, I can feel the sand
between my toes!

Andrea...shh!
Oh, sorry.

I want to talk about a threat
to these amazing creatures

called dolphin bycatch.

When fishermen drag their
fishing nets through the water,

or trawl for fish, dolphins can
sometimes get caught in the net.

This is a very dangerous
situation.

If they can't get loose,

they can drown.
Awful!

That's terrible!
What's gonna happen to them?

Which brings us
to our science contest.

The student or team of students

who creates the best idea
to prevent dolphin bycatch

will win a dolphin
sight-seeing trip!

Wow!
That would be so cool!

Great!
That's amazing!

Cool contest!

And a great way to kick off
summer vacation too.

If we win.

Win or not,
we all want to help.

You'll present your ideas
tomorrow in class.

Good luck, everyone!

Girls, we so got this.

Okay, who's got this?

I can't stand to think of
dolphins caught in those nets.

Maybe if the nets were made out
of a different material,

the dolphins could slip
through them.

Cool idea, Olivia.

Dolphins also use echolocation
to navigate.

Maybe there's something there.

[SCHOOL BELL RINGS]

School's out
for today.

Yeah, but I want to stay
and work on the contest.

Me too.
But the beach!

The sand! It's already
between my toes!

Well, you know what I mean.
Sorry, Andrea.

Girls, we should definitely
go to the beach.

Where better to get inspiration
to save dolphins from bycatch?

Yes! I knew I was
on to something.

To the beach, then.

After we stop by the Vet Clinic
to check on my animals.

Some of them are getting
over injuries.

Cool! We'll all go!

[DOG YELPING]

Careful, Molly, that leg
hasn't healed yet.

I warned ya.

Those have to be cut in pieces.
Sure!

Exactly three drops of medicine
for you, boy.

[BIRD SQUAWKING]

That's too much, Andrea.

She sure is picky.

Mia, you remember that I'm out
of town for a few days, right?

Yeah, I remember.

I'll be here to take care
of my little guys.

Great.

Let's sweep up, then we can
go to the beach.

[♪♪♪]

Whoo!

Emma, why don't you grab
some snacks

while we set up
the picnic table.

Sure.

I like your idea
about the nets, Olivia.

We should also think of
how to keep the dolphins

totally away from
the fishermen's boats.

Hmm. Good idea.
But how?

[TIRES SCREECH, HORN HONKS]

casualties, though.

Looks like I owe
you girls a snack.

I'm glad you honked
your horn, Jacob.

Yeah, it warned us
just in time.

A warning...

With sound...
An alarm on the nets.

That would warn the dolphins--

Great idea! We could use
underwater speakers.

And we can call it
Dolphin Alert.

So the fish travel this way.

And the dolphins travel
this way,

away from the fishermen's nets.

Interesting idea, Ben.

One question:
How do the fish and dolphins

know to follow
the traffic lights?

Uhh...traffic school?

[GIRLS LAUGH]

Thank you, Ben.

Girls, it's your turn.

Our idea is called
Dolphin Alert.

Special underwater speakers
are hung from the fishing boats.

When the fishermen begin
to trawl with their nets,

they turn on the speakers
and the dolphins hear this.
