This has always been
a haunted space.
You know the phrase
if these walls could talk?
They want to talk.
Someone hanged in this space?
Something trying to get
in this door.
Wow.
And it's so loud.
They're screaming bloody murder.
- I summon the past.
- Yep.
It's obvious what
they were trying to do.
You've got old people,
you've got sick,
you've got bat ****
crazy people.
Who's down there?
Look on the right side.
What the ****?
The dead want a voice.
We just want to help
this family.
The living need our help.
Have you always been here?
He was watching already.
wow, we're in the middle
of nowhere.
Yeah.
That building is large.
There it is.
Randolph county infirmary.
We're talking about a building
that stood for 120 years.
That's incredible.
Hundreds of people were brought
to this building
because there was
no hope for them.
They had no money.
They had nowhere to go.
Right.
Some of them were sick,
some of them were elderly.
Yeah.
Some of them were kids just
dropped off at the doorstep.
- yeah.
Most people, they came in here
and I'd say probably over half
of them died within its walls.
there's even a unmarked, like,
pauper cemetery in the back.
So there's like 50 or 60 graves
back there with no markings.
These were people
that were unclaimed.
My god.
Yeah, isn't that wild
to think about?
Yeah, that's insane.
Dan, who is the owner has known
this has always been
a haunted space.
They've been
investigating here for years.
What's changed
is that in recent months,
there's been something
a little bit darker happening.
There was an incident
where these kids felt
as though something was trying
to bang down the door.
So these poor little girls
are terrified.
They won't go back
in the building.
Yeah.
And they found what they believe
to be sigils --
yeah.
...Which are basically,
like, markings
that someone put on the walls
and window sills.
He's wondering if if this
kind of uptick in activity
has something to do with those.
But I mean, that's just one
aspect of the investigation.
We have hundreds
of possibilities
as far as who could be
haunting the place --
right.
...And it's just -- we're gonna
have to figure out
like who's causing
the more dark, scary activity.
okay, should we go
and meet dann?
Yeah, let's go meet dann.
- hi.
- Hello.
- I'm amy.
- Nice to meet you.
- Adam. Nice to meet you, sir.
- Nice to meet you.
- Wow, this place is --
- it's crazy.
- ...Incredible.
- Yeah.
So when did you buy
this building
and why did you buy
this building?
I bought it about
three years ago.
And I kept driving by,
seeing it slowly deteriorate.
So I called one of
the county commissioners
and they said
"well, if you have a good plan,
they'd be interested
in selling it."
I told him "I want to
leave it as-is."
and you don't have
to destroy the inside.-
You can leave the inside
and outside as-is
and then you can bring kids
in and stuff like that
and say this is the way
they used to live.
- Yeah.
- You're preserving history.
Yes. Right.
Did you have any idea it was
gonna come with ghosts?
I didn't know until I had
an experience in the basement.
You know the phrase,
if these walls could talk.-
They want to talk.
All right, so explain to us
the building
that we're standing
in right now.
- It was completed in 1899.
- All right.
58,000 square feet.
- Wow.
- Wow. Okay.
It ran as multi uses.
So it used to be an asylum --
...An infirmary,
and then later on it just kind
of became a poor farm as well.
A lot of families
were raised here.
And then retirement home.
Okay.
I mean, this seems to me
like a typical, you know,
turn of the century house.
the front part was where
the caretakers stay,
the whole family.
And if you notice
how from the doors back ---
...What a difference
once you go through there.
Right.
Right, suddenly
you're in a hospital --
1899.
now what's this on the wall
right here?
That we found up in the attic.
What is it?
That is a wooden leg.
Okay.
- And it's original.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
And is this connected to it
or is this a cane?
That's a cane.
- So that's separate.
- Was that found with it?
And that was found
in the attic, too.
So that was together.
I mean,
I feel like they probably
belong to the same person.
- Could have.
That would be my hunch.
- That's really interesting.
- That is incredible.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
All right, well,
we'll follow you this way.
Okay.
now this is ida gunkle's room.
She was going crazy.
To the point where they knew
they couldn't really
do anything with her.-
And the ones they can't
really help anymore,
they put in the basement.
- Right.
One day she asked for a broom
to clean up her room.-
She got some
ticking off her bed.
It is how they used to soften
the mattresses
underneath the mattresses
in the day.
- Okay.
- Okay.
And tied the ticking around
the broom that they got ---
...The other round her neck
and stuck the broom
up between the pipes like so.
- Wow.
And then jumped off the bed.
Wow.
What are some of the things
people have experiences in here?
You do get a sense
of panicking.
And down here is where
I had my experience.
I'm over here
with my cellphone --
Yeah.
...And I see somebody
walking up behind me.
...And they walk up
real quick.
I swear they're gonna hit me
right in the back.
I just went to knock them off
their feet like that.
And the person was gone.
- That's crazy.
- Wow, okay.
You saw something so real
and so, like, palpable
that you went
to hit the person
to be like I'm gonna get them
for trying to scare me.
No, not scare me.
I thought they --
...To get you.
You thought you were, like,
about to be attacked.
Get me in the back with a knife
or hit me or something.
Something.
I thought it was aggressive.
And then they just --
so they just disappeared.
- Wow. Okay.
- Did you hear something?
Yeah, I heard like a footstep
or something inside here.
That's where it came from.
And do you ever -- do you hear
footsteps often here?
- All the time.
- All the time?
I don't know how many people
tell me
they hear somebody
walking up behind them.
- Nobody there.
- Yeah. Wow.
- So it's still happening.
- Okay.
- We can head to the next spot.
- Okay.
see all the rooms
basically looked the same.
The women was on the north side
and then the south side's
the men's.
Okay.
Down here we have
the women's bathroom
where they found some symbols.
And they were found
down in here.
And I didn't think
that other people
should be, you know,
dealing with symbols.-
So I just wiped them off.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
They were really all over,
all along here,
and you can still see it
a little bit.
So they were all
over that door? Kind of --
they're all over the place.
And is there anybody that,
like, would have pictures
of them or...
Yes.
- Yeah.
- Yeah. Look.
I've never
anything like that.-
This room had all along
the doors --
really?
...The jams, just full.
Do you know who did it?
I'm not sure.
So what if the symbols that
they're drawing
is supposed to see if they
can summon up these spirits?
Looking at these weird markings
that are around the building,
I don't know why someone
would do that.
I don't know if they're trying
to conjure up something,
but it's all about intention.
And we say that all the time.
Are we going into a place
where someone has basically
put a negative intention
on the space?
We just need to figure out
what these markings are.
So this is
a major point for us.
We have to come back and look
more into like this, right?
And which was the room that
the kids had their experience?
Over in this room here,
this would've been
a family room type thing.
Okay. All right.
It was not even a year ago.
We had some kids in here
while the parents out there.-
And they were doing
an investigation
and I was with them out there
with investigation
and I heard this one girl
yell for mommy real loud.
This door was shaking.
There was growling sounds
on the other side
and it really scared the kids.
They were terrified.
That sounds really scary.
Can we talk to one
of their parents or something?
Yes, star,
who used to work here,
one of her kids was actually
in this room with me.
Okay, so we can chat with her.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
Because there were kids
that were really freaked out
by something aggressive,
dann wants to make sure
this whole entire place is safe.
He, at this point,
does not feel comfortable
having kids in this space.
It is in our best interest
to find out what it is
and make sure
everyone is safe.
- hi, are you star?
- I am.
Hi, I'm amy.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
- Hey, adam. Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you guys.
So dann had told us that you had
a pretty wild experience
with your daughter.
Yeah, my husband and I have been
working with dann
for several years.
We done most of the cleaning
throughout the building.
And we were here for an event.
My daughter and some
of her friends were here
and they had the doors locked.
And the next thing you know
they said something
was trying to get in the door.
Do you guys care if I show you
what she said happened?
Yeah, no, please, yeah.
So this door they had it locked
and they said
they're hearing growling
and something trying
to get in this door.
Wow.
And it's so loud,
they're screaming bloody murder
and she was hysterical.
This is terrifying.
We've worked here for years
and nothing
has ever felt threatening --
right.
...Especially towards the kids.
And since then,
a lot of darker stories
have been coming out
with people seeing crawlers.
What do you think changed
in the building
that would make something like
that happen all of a sudden?
We found some symbols
and I don't know
if it has something
to do with that
or if that, you know, like
correlates or whatever,
but it's just recently
been amped up
where people are starting to see
more of that type of stuff.
Whether or not those
weird symbols and drawings
have anything to do
with the activity.
That is one thing that
we're gonna need help on.
There was over
a thousand patients here,
so there's no telling
who was actually here
and there can be dozens
and dozens of people
haunting in this place.
so we should probably start
in the basement.
Yes.
The weird shadow figures
down there
and then the woman
who committed suicide.
Right.
- Ida.
- Two things we got to look at.
Okay.
tonight we're gonna
head to the basement
because that's where ida gunkle
hung herself.
And so we want
to try to talk to ida
and see if maybe we could get
some sort of answers
as to what is here
and what has been seen
crawling walls and the ceiling.
Okay.
hi, mrs. Gunkle.
My name is amy.
My name is adam.
Thanks for letting us
into your space.
We appreciate it.
We know very little about you
except you were
put into this room
because the others here
didn't really know
what to do with you.
We know that you ended
your life here.
That's what people
are remembering you
for at this point,
because it was such...
It was such a way to go,
you know?
And so, we just wanted to see
if you want it to be remembered
for anything else,
even if that's just talking
to us right now.
Do you want to try
talking to us?
okay, let's listen to this.
We know that you ended
your life here.
Who's down there?
Look on the right side.
Who is that?
What the ****?
And now,
a special sneak peek
at the all-new season
of "ghost adventures."
something's not right
in this neighborhood
in biggs, california.
I call it the devil's town.
The devil's here.
Something was in her house.
Something attacked her.
Lifted her straight up
into the air,
flipped her completely over,
and then slammed her down
and broke her neck.
What is that?
What is your name?
can you make those lights
light up?
On cue!
I felt like a --
an arrow or a spear
went right through my head
and out -- straight out...
That's what this felt like,
like somebody just went boom!
God rebuke him,
we humbly pray.
Cast into hell satan, and...
amen.
This is as serious
as it gets.
All-new season
of "ghost adventures"
starts Thursday,
February 27th at 9
on travel channel,
and stream
an extended sneak peek
on travel channel go.
We're at
the randolph county infirmary
where recently the activity
has employees
and guests running scared
and something just
reached out to us.
Get back? It said get back.
- Get back?
- Get back? What does that mean?
The first thing
she says to us is get back.
Yeah.
- She doesn't know who we are.
- Okay.
So I'm gonna go in here
and just sit across the hall
from you and observe.
All right, you want to try
and chat with me now?
Like I was saying earlier,
we can really get word out
to people your real story,
so you're not remembered
for how your life ended,
but for how you lived it.
I think that's important.
I'm sure you didn't mean
to end up here.
I guarantee that
your life plan
was not
to end up in a room like this.
what was that?
Do you hear a voice?
Yeah, down here.
I have full body chills.
Like a -- like a...
Like a wailing.
Yeah, it was like a, "ahh."
hello, we heard someone.
Can you make a noise
where you are again?
You sounded like
you needed help.
If you don't want our help,
that's fine,
but we just want to make sure
we're not disturbing you.
down there.
that was what footsteps.
Yeah, two footsteps.
who's down there?
Look on the right side.
Yeah.
What is that?
what the ****?
It just went to the left.
It's at the very end
and it just went left.
Like, almost like a peaking
shadow again, but low.
- Low. I saw it down low --
- yeah, low.
...On the right.
A lot of darker stories
have been coming out
with people seeing crawlers.
It moves fast.
- Yeah, low to the ground.
- It's low.
listen, I'm putting up
these little green dots
and they're not gonna
hurt you,
but you can step out at
any point
and get our attention.
Why do you stay down here?
You don't have to hide.
So weird because it's gone.
I feel like this shadow figure
is just checking us out,
trying to figure out
who we are.
Maybe we need to do
things that get more information
rather than activity.
- Yeah.
We're getting a lot of activity,
but here's the key.
We don't know
who is actually here,
so we're gonna have to do
a lot more research.
Hopefully dig up some more
information that we can use
on our investigation
and figure out
who or what exactly
was trying to get into that door
when the girls were here.
I reached out to starlena
in hopes her daughter
would be willing to come talk
to me about her experience.
Hopefully, I can get
some sort of detail
that points us
in the right direction.
Can you just kind of take me
through just what happened
exactly the night
that kind of scared you?
We were just watching a movie
on the computer
and while we were
watching the movie,
like, all of a sudden,
I just hear like a growling
and I'm just like,
"guys, do you hear that?"
did it sound like a person
or did it sound
like something else?
It sounded like a grown man
or something.
- Like a man growling.
- Yeah.
And it felt like heavy footsteps
walking towards the door.
Okay.
Like he's kind of having
a struggle
but, like, really heavy.
- Okay.
And then we ended up at that
point freaking out, screaming,
and then something started
messing with the door handle,
and then we ran outside
because we got so scared.
So at that point you guys
all kind of start became --
that was your first experience
here that really scared you?
Yes, like scared us to where,
like,
we didn't really want
to come back.
Brooklyn experienced
pretty aggressive activity
but this is all new activity
to the building.
Something caused an escalation
in activity
and they say that
the appearance of the sigils
and the uptick in activity
happened around the same time.
So we invited
greg and dana newkirk
to help us out
with this sigil situation.
The great thing
about greg and dana
is that they are both
occult specialists
and so they are
just kind of experts
on all things strange
and unusual
and I feel like
they're going to be able
to give us some insight
onto what these sigils are
and what we need to do
to handle them.
So they were on
the window sill.
Here and there.
Window sills, doors.
- Doorframes, window sills.
- Entrances.
- Entrance ways.
- Yeah.
I mean, like, there is
a whole, like, text here.
Wow, yes.
I- s-u-m-m...
T- h-e
and then p-a-s-t.
- Something summon the past.
- Yeah.
- Wait, there's more.
- There is more.
- Something in...
- This says in the present.
In the present.
I summon the past
in the present.
Yep.
It's obvious what
they were trying to do.
There's lots of death
in this place.
Like, and I'm almost reluctant
to say this,
but it feels like there's like
hundreds of deaths here.
Weird symbols
have appeared throughout
the old
randolph county infirmary.
The owner,
dann and the employees,
are worried that they may have
something to do
with the recent
aggressive activity.
It's obvious what
they were trying to do.
What do you think
they're trying to do?
They're trying to summon
the past,
they're trying to drum up
the energy
of whatever's still in here
and has been in this place
for however long
it's been standing here.
To put them all over something,
they obviously were put there
with a very specific intention,
for a specific purpose.
Yeah.
The question is figuring out
what that purpose was.
Okay.
And I think to get
to the bottom of that,
we need to know
what has been happening
that you think might have
something to do with the sigils.
There was like
an instance downstairs
where there was some kids
they heard like a growling noise
and someone banged on the door
and, like, shook the whole door
and these poor kids were
screaming for their parents.
That's really interesting.
I mean, so again
you have to think about it
when whoever's putting these
symbols on the building
is putting their specific
intention into the building.
Whoever's here
that's not living,
they don't get a choice.
They have to experience
whatever that intention
is trying to manifest.
So it could be that people
who worked totally freaked out
by this energy that's kind of
flowing through this space -- ...
...And they're going like,
what's happening in here,
I don't understand
what's happening.
Which might make sense.
Yeah. Okay.
I got chills when you said that.
I could see why just that kind
of disturbance in the space
would, like, cause
an uptick in activity.
Yeah.
They are forcing everyone
who comes in here afterwards
to deal with their intention
that they placed
on the building.
They've left that here
and that just creates
a feedback loop of negativity.
Greg and dana
are basically telling us
that the symbols
are all about intention.
We don't know
if they're positive,
we don't if they're negative,
but whoever put them there,
put them there for a purpose
and a reason,
and we don't know
what that purpose is
and if that's affecting
the activity here
of the people
who choose to be around,
then that is a definite issue.
now that we know more
about these sigils,
we're gonna investigate
by the ones
on the second floor hallway.
We're gonna run
a couple of experiments to see
if whatever is here will show
itself or communicate with us.
Amy and I are trying
the flashlight experiment
and we've had luck
with it before.
If we set up the flashlights
facing straight up
down a long hallway,
we've had entities in the past
actually turn on a certain
flashlight based on a door
or based on
a question or a color.
So hopefully you can see
if anybody wants
to reach out to us.
Okay.
Hey, so whoever you are,
we saw a lot of
writing on the wall,
some strange writing.
Was someone doing
something here to call
others like you?
Is there someone new
in the building
who's raising trouble?
There was some children
here recently
who had a really
terrifying experience
and someone started growling
and banging on the door.
Do you know who did that?
Let's listen to this.
So there's not someone
new raising trouble.
We put up three torches,
all you have to do
is twist the top of it
and the light comes on.
It turned it on.
Can you light up
any of the other lights?
The one down here or the one
that's furthest away from us?
they're all both on now.
Let's see.
Who is that?
I heard talking.
It almost sounded like
it was drifting up
the corridor from somewhere,
but it definitely --
it sounded like a man.
We're here because
there was some kids
that got scared downstairs
and we have been asked
to come here
and try to find out
what happened.
You want to hear
the weirdest thing
about that story
brooklyn told me?
She said that she heard
someone walking,
but they were
having trouble walking
that they couldn't walk right.
And it felt like heavy footsteps
walking towards the door.
Okay.
Like he's kind of
having a struggle,
but like really heavy.
- Okay.
And I instantly
went back to, like,
there is a prosthetic leg
hanging on the wall
right outside that room.
That is a wooden leg.
That's such a unique thing.
Well, why don't we go down on
that spot and see what happens.
And see, yeah.
all right, let's take it
into the room.
can you put it on this table?
I'm setting up the trigger
object proximity sensor
to this wooden leg
and we're gonna see
if there's any activity
from it.
did you lean up against it?
you've got old people,
you've got sick people,
you've got young kids,
you've got ****
crazy people.
Recently, activity
at the randolph county infirmary
has been aggressive.
We're in the room where
a group of kids were attacked
and something wants
our attention.
did you lean up against it?
so I have a question for you.
There were some
little girls in here.
Did one of them play
with your leg?
we just want to find out
if you needed something.
You obviously were aggressive
enough to try to open the door.
So what do you need?
what happened to your leg?
Maybe we should wait
for a minute.
Yeah.
I'll go right here.
I don't know.
We're not getting any,
like, glaring responses
that there's something
attached that leg.
I mean, here's the --
it went off,
but obviously nothing else
happened connected to that leg.
I don't want to rule it out,
but like right now.
Yeah, I mean
it was worth a try.
I just -- when she said
that it was making a weird,
like, dragging sound,
I thought about
immediately of that leg.
Well, of course,
and the thing is
I still think
it's an open lead.
- Yeah.
- I absolutely think so.
Maybe we haven't just hit
a nerve or anything.
Yeah, why don't we leave it
with that on it
and we'll see if that goes off
when we leave the room.
While we did kind of focus
on the leg initially
and not get a huge response.
We did some evp work around it
to see if we could get any evps,
but it was very quiet.
We're not ready
to toss it out just yet.
I think tomorrow will be telling
when we bring in chip
and see what he picks up on.
today, we decided to use
chip to our advantage,
and so he came in not knowing
anything about the building,
where we were,
the history of it.
Nothing 'cause, you know,
when you walk into this place,
you can't really
tell what it was.
There's any number of things
it could have been.
I think we're anxious to see
kind of what he hits on,
what spirits he picks up on,
and what his overall vibe
of the place is.
Okay.
After you.
there's lots of death
in this place.
Like...
I'm almost reluctant
to say this,
but, like, it feels like
there's, like,
hundreds of deaths here,
like hundreds of people
died in this place.
you've got this whole mishmash
of people that come in here.
You've got old people,
you've got sick people,
you've got young kids,
you've got bat ****
crazy people.
Is there any place in particular
you want me to go here?
Well, maybe just down this way.
I think we should just walk
this way
and so go downstairs, yeah.
it's like prison cells.
Can I take you to one
in particular?
Yes.
somebody who was in this room
or spent time
in this room, self-injured,
like, scratched
or clawed themselves
or, like, mutilated themselves
in some way.
Okay.
Was someone hanged
in this space?
'cause there's like
frantic, frantic, frantic,
self-mutilation,
and then...
Hanging, hanging.
Stuck the broom up
between the pipes like so
and then jumped off the bed.
Someone hung themselves.
- Yeah.
- What?
Yeah.
When someone became
housed there,
how often did they leave
because they found housing
elsewhere versus them dying?
Not very often.
The ramp up of activity
at the randolph county infirmary
could be connected to
any number of tragic deaths.
Chip just picked up on one.
And then...
Hanging, hanging.
Someone hung themselves.
- Yeah.
- What?
Yeah.
Can I get your read
on one thing upstairs?
Okay.
do you get anything
from these items here?
- do we know who it belonged to?
- No.
No, we'd love to find
that out, though.
Peg leg.
Does anything happen
if you touch it?
Will you like --
does it change your...
there's something to do
with a carnival.
- Mnh-mnh.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- That's all I got.
Okay.
Chip picked up immediately
on the fact
that hundreds of people
had died here.
He picked up on ida gunkle
very clearly.
Picked up on
that prosthetic leg.
Research is gonna be key here.
we are at the randolph county
historical society and museum
to meet with ted.
He's got a lot of information
about the infirmary
that I think will help us
in our investigation
and helps us
get more activity
and helps us get more answers
as to who is here and why.
It seems to me
like the infirmary
is kind of a hub of history
for winchester.
- Would you say that or...
- I would say it is.
From the day that place
opened in 1899 until it closed,
there was 1,487 people
went through that.
- Wow.
- That's a lot of natural death.
So when someone became
housed there,
how often did they leave
because they found housing
elsewhere versus them dying?
Not very often.
All of these
are the 1,487 people.
This is amazing.
Can I take a look at that?
Sure.
Yeah, that's incredible.
It says what was wrong with them
when they were admitted,
how old they were,
what their race was, gender.
How would you describe
the infirmary?
It was a good facility.
It was meant to be kind.
Right.
It was meant to be good
for people.
Truth of matter is they lived
from buzzer to buzzer.
There's a bell system, that went
off at 7:00 in the morning,
that means get up.
8:00 is breakfast.
12:00, noon,
would've been lunch.
5:00 was supper time.
10:30 is lights out. Okay?
- That's crazy.
- They liked order, structure?
That was their routine.
Something was telling them
what to do.
Do you think that that was
overall a happy place?
I think, more for the ladies
than the men,
it was probably a refuge,
but probably like a controlled
prison for the men.
can we borrow this binder?
- Sure, you can.
- Awesome.
All right. Thank you, sir.
The people who lived and died
were all about
order and routine.
According to greg and dana,
the sigils that are
in this building,
the person who wrote them,
it was with the intent
to create an uptick in activity,
a surge in activity.
They wanted to make this
a kind of paranormal fun house.
I could see why that would
disturb the resident ghosts.
I've been going through here
and I'm trying to find
all the people
that had their legs amputated.
I found one.
I don't see another one.
Okay.
Harry dunn, leg amputated.
He kept coming back.
See what I mean? Like...
He was the one that went
to go work for the carnival.
remember, when chip was like
"carnival,"
something about a carnival.
- Yes!
There's something to do
with a carnival.
This harry dunn,
something happened.
He must've gotten
in an accident or something.
Eight days later,
leg amputated.
Obit. We have his obituary.
Right there.
Harry "peg" dunn.
His name was peg.
Peg leg.
- Guys, that is --
- that is his leg.
100% that is his leg.
That's his leg.
I think we'll have to bring chip
into the investigation.
Yes.
Tonight we're gonna bring
chip in to the investigation.
We're hopeful
that he might be able
to help us kind of confirm
our suspicions
that the gentleman
who most likely owned
that leg was named harry dunn.
I'm gonna set up
a flashlight.
One is yes, one is no,
and one is maybe.
Maybe they can
communicate with us.
Okay, I already got
it's the left leg.
It's the left leg.
- It is the left leg?
- Yep.
Is that a vibe
you're getting or...
Yep, because my left leg
hurts really bad.
It's an h.
- Right there.
- Harry "peg" dunn.
it just is a fun thing to do.
I'm like, "I'm going to scare
the **** out of them."
- what?
- The light came on.
"yeah, I just did it. I just did
it for **** and giggles."
We believe we've traced
the attack on a group of kids
back to an old resident
that lost his leg.
Now, chip has just
picked up on his name.
It is male.
It's an h.
It's an h.
It's henry, harold something.
We literally found
this information
out like five minutes ago.
We said, "let's see if chip
picks up on this guy,"
and within 45 seconds
you're like, "it's an h.
It's like harold or henry,"
and his name was harry.
Let's talk to this harry.
Mr. Dunn, are you here with us?
Can you let us know in some way?
you're not in any trouble.
No one wants you to leave.
There were some girls
in this room
and I'm just wondering
if you may have scared them.
I already got an answer for you,
if you want the answer.
What?
He's totally responsible.
-100%.
- Really?
Yes, and he did it
just for funsies,
just as a fun thing to do.
I'm like, "I'm going to scare
the **** out of them.
-100%.
- What?
- The light came on.
- "yeah, I just did it.
I just did it
for **** and giggles."
did you really do that?
Okay.
On.
I think he had fun
with those kids
'cause they were kids
and he worked in the carnival.
I don't think he's like
a normal resident.
- Does that make sense?
- Right. Right.
I don't feel like he's here
all the time.
Yeah.
He probably comes and goes
like he did when he was alive.
So making like growling
and like, "rah" noises ---
...And trying
to scare people like --
can I tell you
what he just said to me?
...Is a thing.
What?
"I'm not gonna hurt anybody."
yeah, I trust that.
I do, too.
A lot of what we do
is very destined, very fated.
And I feel like we have
these little moments
where we just have to like
bring these people ---
...Back into the light
for a second
and let people remember them
even though they would
have been long forgotten.
He's like a lot
of the other ones in here,
"just don't forget me."
yeah, we won't forget you.
You're definitely
not forgotten now, peg.
All right, peg.
He put up the light for you.
Yeah. Thank you, peg.
We'll continue
to tell your story, okay?
hi, adam. Good to see you.
- Welcome back.
- Amy.
- Thank you.
- Have a seat, if you don't mind.
You have a really great
building here.
We've got a ton
of information for you.
Good.
Our concern was the kids
because we were like --
yeah.
"we need to figure out
what that is."
yeah.
When I was talking
to brooklyn,
she had a very distinct
description of her experience.
She said, "I heard someone
who sounded like
they were having trouble
walking and they were stomping
but they weren't
walking right."
my brain was like,
"well, there is that leg
hanging on the wall
right outside the room
she was in,"
and so we focused
on that leg.
I could only find one amputee
in this book
and he did die here,
and so his name is harry dunn.
His nickname was "peg."
we called chip in,
and so he honed in
on harry being like a prankster,
like a jokester,
like he purposely tried
to scare the girls.
He was playing a prank on them.
He thought it was hysterical.
What we're saying there is
we don't think
that you have anything to worry
about as far as that incident.
It was a joke?
- Yeah.
- It was a joke.
- Absolutely.
- That's funny.
So the next thing we wanted
to focus on was the sigils.
The main thing to know
is that we don't think
there's anything
dangerous here.
Greg and dana are
coming back here today.
Okay.
And we just want to go through
and just properly close off
all those sigils
so that if we close
those off for them,
I think that's gonna
make them more comfortable.
we want to wipe away
those old symbols
because we don't know what
the intention was exactly.
It might've been good.
It might've been not good.
But because we don't know
and because you're
the owner of a place,
we want to start
with a blank slate.
Okay.
I made you a blend that is
basically all-purpose cleansers.
The symbol that I put
on the front of your bottle
is basically to renew
the building
and restore it back
to the energy level
that it was before the symbols
were put here
and literally just
wiping them away.
Just visualize them
disappearing as you do it.
Go back to being yourself.
I think our ultimate goal
has been accomplished.
We were able to put the space
back to a neutral position,
to order and to structure,
which is what the people here
really wanted
when they were alive,
and it's what they want now
that they've passed on
to the other side
and they can have no fears
in just going about the rest
of whatever
their existence is.
---
This has always been
a haunted space.
You know the phrase
if these walls could talk?
They want to talk.
Someone hanged in this space?
Something trying to get
in this door.
Wow.
And it's so loud.
They're screaming bloody murder.
- I summon the past.
- Yep.
It's obvious what
they were trying to do.
You've got old people,
you've got sick,
you've got bat ****
crazy people.
Who's down there?
Look on the right side.
What the ****?
The dead want a voice.
We just want to help
this family.
The living need our help.
Have you always been here?
He was watching already.
wow, we're in the middle
of nowhere.
Yeah.
That building is large.
There it is.
Randolph county infirmary.
We're talking about a building
that stood for 120 years.
That's incredible.
Hundreds of people were brought
to this building
because there was
no hope for them.
They had no money.
They had nowhere to go.
Right.
Some of them were sick,
some of them were elderly.
Yeah.
Some of them were kids just
dropped off at the doorstep.
- yeah.
Most people, they came in here
and I'd say probably over half
of them died within its walls.
there's even a unmarked, like,
pauper cemetery in the back.
So there's like 50 or 60 graves
back there with no markings.
These were people
that were unclaimed.
My god.
Yeah, isn't that wild
to think about?
Yeah, that's insane.
Dan, who is the owner has known
this has always been
a haunted space.
They've been
investigating here for years.
What's changed
is that in recent months,
there's been something
a little bit darker happening.
There was an incident
where these kids felt
as though something was trying
to bang down the door.
So these poor little girls
are terrified.
They won't go back
in the building.
Yeah.
And they found what they believe
to be sigils --
yeah.
...Which are basically,
like, markings
that someone put on the walls
and window sills.
He's wondering if if this
kind of uptick in activity
has something to do with those.
But I mean, that's just one
aspect of the investigation.
We have hundreds
of possibilities
as far as who could be
haunting the place --
right.
...And it's just -- we're gonna
have to figure out
like who's causing
the more dark, scary activity.
okay, should we go
and meet dann?
Yeah, let's go meet dann.
- hi.
- Hello.
- I'm amy.
- Nice to meet you.
- Adam. Nice to meet you, sir.
- Nice to meet you.
- Wow, this place is --
- it's crazy.
- ...Incredible.
- Yeah.
So when did you buy
this building
and why did you buy
this building?
I bought it about
three years ago.
And I kept driving by,
seeing it slowly deteriorate.
So I called one of
the county commissioners
and they said
"well, if you have a good plan,
they'd be interested
in selling it."
I told him "I want to
leave it as-is."
and you don't have
to destroy the inside.-
You can leave the inside
and outside as-is
and then you can bring kids
in and stuff like that
and say this is the way
they used to live.
- Yeah.
- You're preserving history.
Yes. Right.
Did you have any idea it was
gonna come with ghosts?
I didn't know until I had
an experience in the basement.
You know the phrase,
if these walls could talk.-
They want to talk.
All right, so explain to us
the building
that we're standing
in right now.
- It was completed in 1899.
- All right.
58,000 square feet.
- Wow.
- Wow. Okay.
It ran as multi uses.
So it used to be an asylum --
...An infirmary,
and then later on it just kind
of became a poor farm as well.
A lot of families
were raised here.
And then retirement home.
Okay.
I mean, this seems to me
like a typical, you know,
turn of the century house.
the front part was where
the caretakers stay,
the whole family.
And if you notice
how from the doors back ---
...What a difference
once you go through there.
Right.
Right, suddenly
you're in a hospital --
1899.
now what's this on the wall
right here?
That we found up in the attic.
What is it?
That is a wooden leg.
Okay.
- And it's original.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
And is this connected to it
or is this a cane?
That's a cane.
- So that's separate.
- Was that found with it?
And that was found
in the attic, too.
So that was together.
I mean,
I feel like they probably
belong to the same person.
- Could have.
That would be my hunch.
- That's really interesting.
- That is incredible.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
All right, well,
we'll follow you this way.
Okay.
now this is ida gunkle's room.
She was going crazy.
To the point where they knew
they couldn't really
do anything with her.-
And the ones they can't
really help anymore,
they put in the basement.
- Right.
One day she asked for a broom
to clean up her room.-
She got some
ticking off her bed.
It is how they used to soften
the mattresses
underneath the mattresses
in the day.
- Okay.
- Okay.
And tied the ticking around
the broom that they got ---
...The other round her neck
and stuck the broom
up between the pipes like so.
- Wow.
And then jumped off the bed.
Wow.
What are some of the things
people have experiences in here?
You do get a sense
of panicking.
And down here is where
I had my experience.
I'm over here
with my cellphone --
Yeah.
...And I see somebody
walking up behind me.
...And they walk up
real quick.
I swear they're gonna hit me
right in the back.
I just went to knock them off
their feet like that.
And the person was gone.
- That's crazy.
- Wow, okay.
You saw something so real
and so, like, palpable
that you went
to hit the person
to be like I'm gonna get them
for trying to scare me.
No, not scare me.
I thought they --
...To get you.
You thought you were, like,
about to be attacked.
Get me in the back with a knife
or hit me or something.
Something.
I thought it was aggressive.
And then they just --
so they just disappeared.
- Wow. Okay.
- Did you hear something?
Yeah, I heard like a footstep
or something inside here.
That's where it came from.
And do you ever -- do you hear
footsteps often here?
- All the time.
- All the time?
I don't know how many people
tell me
they hear somebody
walking up behind them.
- Nobody there.
- Yeah. Wow.
- So it's still happening.
- Okay.
- We can head to the next spot.
- Okay.
see all the rooms
basically looked the same.
The women was on the north side
and then the south side's
the men's.
Okay.
Down here we have
the women's bathroom
where they found some symbols.
And they were found
down in here.
And I didn't think
that other people
should be, you know,
dealing with symbols.-
So I just wiped them off.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
They were really all over,
all along here,
and you can still see it
a little bit.
So they were all
over that door? Kind of --
they're all over the place.
And is there anybody that,
like, would have pictures
of them or...
Yes.
- Yeah.
- Yeah. Look.
I've never
anything like that.-
This room had all along
the doors --
really?
...The jams, just full.
Do you know who did it?
I'm not sure.
So what if the symbols that
they're drawing
is supposed to see if they
can summon up these spirits?
Looking at these weird markings
that are around the building,
I don't know why someone
would do that.
I don't know if they're trying
to conjure up something,
but it's all about intention.
And we say that all the time.
Are we going into a place
where someone has basically
put a negative intention
on the space?
We just need to figure out
what these markings are.
So this is
a major point for us.
We have to come back and look
more into like this, right?
And which was the room that
the kids had their experience?
Over in this room here,
this would've been
a family room type thing.
Okay. All right.
It was not even a year ago.
We had some kids in here
while the parents out there.-
And they were doing
an investigation
and I was with them out there
with investigation
and I heard this one girl
yell for mommy real loud.
This door was shaking.
There was growling sounds
on the other side
and it really scared the kids.
They were terrified.
That sounds really scary.
Can we talk to one
of their parents or something?
Yes, star,
who used to work here,
one of her kids was actually
in this room with me.
Okay, so we can chat with her.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
Because there were kids
that were really freaked out
by something aggressive,
dann wants to make sure
this whole entire place is safe.
He, at this point,
does not feel comfortable
having kids in this space.
It is in our best interest
to find out what it is
and make sure
everyone is safe.
- hi, are you star?
- I am.
Hi, I'm amy.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
- Hey, adam. Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you guys.
So dann had told us that you had
a pretty wild experience
with your daughter.
Yeah, my husband and I have been
working with dann
for several years.
We done most of the cleaning
throughout the building.
And we were here for an event.
My daughter and some
of her friends were here
and they had the doors locked.
And the next thing you know
they said something
was trying to get in the door.
Do you guys care if I show you
what she said happened?
Yeah, no, please, yeah.
So this door they had it locked
and they said
they're hearing growling
and something trying
to get in this door.
Wow.
And it's so loud,
they're screaming bloody murder
and she was hysterical.
This is terrifying.
We've worked here for years
and nothing
has ever felt threatening --
right.
...Especially towards the kids.
And since then,
a lot of darker stories
have been coming out
with people seeing crawlers.
What do you think changed
in the building
that would make something like
that happen all of a sudden?
We found some symbols
and I don't know
if it has something
to do with that
or if that, you know, like
correlates or whatever,
but it's just recently
been amped up
where people are starting to see
more of that type of stuff.
Whether or not those
weird symbols and drawings
have anything to do
with the activity.
That is one thing that
we're gonna need help on.
There was over
a thousand patients here,
so there's no telling
who was actually here
and there can be dozens
and dozens of people
haunting in this place.
so we should probably start
in the basement.
Yes.
The weird shadow figures
down there
and then the woman
who committed suicide.
Right.
- Ida.
- Two things we got to look at.
Okay.
tonight we're gonna
head to the basement
because that's where ida gunkle
hung herself.
And so we want
to try to talk to ida
and see if maybe we could get
some sort of answers
as to what is here
and what has been seen
crawling walls and the ceiling.
Okay.
hi, mrs. Gunkle.
My name is amy.
My name is adam.
Thanks for letting us
into your space.
We appreciate it.
We know very little about you
except you were
put into this room
because the others here
didn't really know
what to do with you.
We know that you ended
your life here.
That's what people
are remembering you
for at this point,
because it was such...
It was such a way to go,
you know?
And so, we just wanted to see
if you want it to be remembered
for anything else,
even if that's just talking
to us right now.
Do you want to try
talking to us?
okay, let's listen to this.
We know that you ended
your life here.
Who's down there?
Look on the right side.
Who is that?
What the ****?
And now,
a special sneak peek
at the all-new season
of "ghost adventures."
something's not right
in this neighborhood
in biggs, california.
I call it the devil's town.
The devil's here.
Something was in her house.
Something attacked her.
Lifted her straight up
into the air,
flipped her completely over,
and then slammed her down
and broke her neck.
What is that?
What is your name?
can you make those lights
light up?
On cue!
I felt like a --
an arrow or a spear
went right through my head
and out -- straight out...
That's what this felt like,
like somebody just went boom!
God rebuke him,
we humbly pray.
Cast into hell satan, and...
amen.
This is as serious
as it gets.
All-new season
of "ghost adventures"
starts Thursday,
February 27th at 9
on travel channel,
and stream
an extended sneak peek
on travel channel go.
We're at
the randolph county infirmary
where recently the activity
has employees
and guests running scared
and something just
reached out to us.
Get back? It said get back.
- Get back?
- Get back? What does that mean?
The first thing
she says to us is get back.
Yeah.
- She doesn't know who we are.
- Okay.
So I'm gonna go in here
and just sit across the hall
from you and observe.
All right, you want to try
and chat with me now?
Like I was saying earlier,
we can really get word out
to people your real story,
so you're not remembered
for how your life ended,
but for how you lived it.
I think that's important.
I'm sure you didn't mean
to end up here.
I guarantee that
your life plan
was not
to end up in a room like this.
what was that?
Do you hear a voice?
Yeah, down here.
I have full body chills.
Like a -- like a...
Like a wailing.
Yeah, it was like a, "ahh."
hello, we heard someone.
Can you make a noise
where you are again?
You sounded like
you needed help.
If you don't want our help,
that's fine,
but we just want to make sure
we're not disturbing you.
down there.
that was what footsteps.
Yeah, two footsteps.
who's down there?
Look on the right side.
Yeah.
What is that?
what the ****?
It just went to the left.
It's at the very end
and it just went left.
Like, almost like a peaking
shadow again, but low.
- Low. I saw it down low --
- yeah, low.
...On the right.
A lot of darker stories
have been coming out
with people seeing crawlers.
It moves fast.
- Yeah, low to the ground.
- It's low.
listen, I'm putting up
these little green dots
and they're not gonna
hurt you,
but you can step out at
any point
and get our attention.
Why do you stay down here?
You don't have to hide.
So weird because it's gone.
I feel like this shadow figure
is just checking us out,
trying to figure out
who we are.
Maybe we need to do
things that get more information
rather than activity.
- Yeah.
We're getting a lot of activity,
but here's the key.
We don't know
who is actually here,
so we're gonna have to do
a lot more research.
Hopefully dig up some more
information that we can use
on our investigation
and figure out
who or what exactly
was trying to get into that door
when the girls were here.
I reached out to starlena
in hopes her daughter
would be willing to come talk
to me about her experience.
Hopefully, I can get
some sort of detail
that points us
in the right direction.
Can you just kind of take me
through just what happened
exactly the night
that kind of scared you?
We were just watching a movie
on the computer
and while we were
watching the movie,
like, all of a sudden,
I just hear like a growling
and I'm just like,
"guys, do you hear that?"
did it sound like a person
or did it sound
like something else?
It sounded like a grown man
or something.
- Like a man growling.
- Yeah.
And it felt like heavy footsteps
walking towards the door.
Okay.
Like he's kind of having
a struggle
but, like, really heavy.
- Okay.
And then we ended up at that
point freaking out, screaming,
and then something started
messing with the door handle,
and then we ran outside
because we got so scared.
So at that point you guys
all kind of start became --
that was your first experience
here that really scared you?
Yes, like scared us to where,
like,
we didn't really want
to come back.
Brooklyn experienced
pretty aggressive activity
but this is all new activity
to the building.
Something caused an escalation
in activity
and they say that
the appearance of the sigils
and the uptick in activity
happened around the same time.
So we invited
greg and dana newkirk
to help us out
with this sigil situation.
The great thing
about greg and dana
is that they are both
occult specialists
and so they are
just kind of experts
on all things strange
and unusual
and I feel like
they're going to be able
to give us some insight
onto what these sigils are
and what we need to do
to handle them.
So they were on
the window sill.
Here and there.
Window sills, doors.
- Doorframes, window sills.
- Entrances.
- Entrance ways.
- Yeah.
I mean, like, there is
a whole, like, text here.
Wow, yes.
I- s-u-m-m...
T- h-e
and then p-a-s-t.
- Something summon the past.
- Yeah.
- Wait, there's more.
- There is more.
- Something in...
- This says in the present.
In the present.
I summon the past
in the present.
Yep.
It's obvious what
they were trying to do.
There's lots of death
in this place.
Like, and I'm almost reluctant
to say this,
but it feels like there's like
hundreds of deaths here.
Weird symbols
have appeared throughout
the old
randolph county infirmary.
The owner,
dann and the employees,
are worried that they may have
something to do
with the recent
aggressive activity.
It's obvious what
they were trying to do.
What do you think
they're trying to do?
They're trying to summon
the past,
they're trying to drum up
the energy
of whatever's still in here
and has been in this place
for however long
it's been standing here.
To put them all over something,
they obviously were put there
with a very specific intention,
for a specific purpose.
Yeah.
The question is figuring out
what that purpose was.
Okay.
And I think to get
to the bottom of that,
we need to know
what has been happening
that you think might have
something to do with the sigils.
There was like
an instance downstairs
where there was some kids
they heard like a growling noise
and someone banged on the door
and, like, shook the whole door
and these poor kids were
screaming for their parents.
That's really interesting.
I mean, so again
you have to think about it
when whoever's putting these
symbols on the building
is putting their specific
intention into the building.
Whoever's here
that's not living,
they don't get a choice.
They have to experience
whatever that intention
is trying to manifest.
So it could be that people
who worked totally freaked out
by this energy that's kind of
flowing through this space -- ...
...And they're going like,
what's happening in here,
I don't understand
what's happening.
Which might make sense.
Yeah. Okay.
I got chills when you said that.
I could see why just that kind
of disturbance in the space
would, like, cause
an uptick in activity.
Yeah.
They are forcing everyone
who comes in here afterwards
to deal with their intention
that they placed
on the building.
They've left that here
and that just creates
a feedback loop of negativity.
Greg and dana
are basically telling us
that the symbols
are all about intention.
We don't know
if they're positive,
we don't if they're negative,
but whoever put them there,
put them there for a purpose
and a reason,
and we don't know
what that purpose is
and if that's affecting
the activity here
of the people
who choose to be around,
then that is a definite issue.
now that we know more
about these sigils,
we're gonna investigate
by the ones
on the second floor hallway.
We're gonna run
a couple of experiments to see
if whatever is here will show
itself or communicate with us.
Amy and I are trying
the flashlight experiment
and we've had luck
with it before.
If we set up the flashlights
facing straight up
down a long hallway,
we've had entities in the past
actually turn on a certain
flashlight based on a door
or based on
a question or a color.
So hopefully you can see
if anybody wants
to reach out to us.
Okay.
Hey, so whoever you are,
we saw a lot of
writing on the wall,
some strange writing.
Was someone doing
something here to call
others like you?
Is there someone new
in the building
who's raising trouble?
There was some children
here recently
who had a really
terrifying experience
and someone started growling
and banging on the door.
Do you know who did that?
Let's listen to this.
So there's not someone
new raising trouble.
We put up three torches,
all you have to do
is twist the top of it
and the light comes on.
It turned it on.
Can you light up
any of the other lights?
The one down here or the one
that's furthest away from us?
they're all both on now.
Let's see.
Who is that?
I heard talking.
It almost sounded like
it was drifting up
the corridor from somewhere,
but it definitely --
it sounded like a man.
We're here because
there was some kids
that got scared downstairs
and we have been asked
to come here
and try to find out
what happened.
You want to hear
the weirdest thing
about that story
brooklyn told me?
She said that she heard
someone walking,
but they were
having trouble walking
that they couldn't walk right.
And it felt like heavy footsteps
walking towards the door.
Okay.
Like he's kind of
having a struggle,
but like really heavy.
- Okay.
And I instantly
went back to, like,
there is a prosthetic leg
hanging on the wall
right outside that room.
That is a wooden leg.
That's such a unique thing.
Well, why don't we go down on
that spot and see what happens.
And see, yeah.
all right, let's take it
into the room.
can you put it on this table?
I'm setting up the trigger
object proximity sensor
to this wooden leg
and we're gonna see
if there's any activity
from it.
did you lean up against it?
you've got old people,
you've got sick people,
you've got young kids,
you've got ****
crazy people.
Recently, activity
at the randolph county infirmary
has been aggressive.
We're in the room where
a group of kids were attacked
and something wants
our attention.
did you lean up against it?
so I have a question for you.
There were some
little girls in here.
Did one of them play
with your leg?
we just want to find out
if you needed something.
You obviously were aggressive
enough to try to open the door.
So what do you need?
what happened to your leg?
Maybe we should wait
for a minute.
Yeah.
I'll go right here.
I don't know.
We're not getting any,
like, glaring responses
that there's something
attached that leg.
I mean, here's the --
it went off,
but obviously nothing else
happened connected to that leg.
I don't want to rule it out,
but like right now.
Yeah, I mean
it was worth a try.
I just -- when she said
that it was making a weird,
like, dragging sound,
I thought about
immediately of that leg.
Well, of course,
and the thing is
I still think
it's an open lead.
- Yeah.
- I absolutely think so.
Maybe we haven't just hit
a nerve or anything.
Yeah, why don't we leave it
with that on it
and we'll see if that goes off
when we leave the room.
While we did kind of focus
on the leg initially
and not get a huge response.
We did some evp work around it
to see if we could get any evps,
but it was very quiet.
We're not ready
to toss it out just yet.
I think tomorrow will be telling
when we bring in chip
and see what he picks up on.
today, we decided to use
chip to our advantage,
and so he came in not knowing
anything about the building,
where we were,
the history of it.
Nothing 'cause, you know,
when you walk into this place,
you can't really
tell what it was.
There's any number of things
it could have been.
I think we're anxious to see
kind of what he hits on,
what spirits he picks up on,
and what his overall vibe
of the place is.
Okay.
After you.
there's lots of death
in this place.
Like...
I'm almost reluctant
to say this,
but, like, it feels like
there's, like,
hundreds of deaths here,
like hundreds of people
died in this place.
you've got this whole mishmash
of people that come in here.
You've got old people,
you've got sick people,
you've got young kids,
you've got bat ****
crazy people.
Is there any place in particular
you want me to go here?
Well, maybe just down this way.
I think we should just walk
this way
and so go downstairs, yeah.
it's like prison cells.
Can I take you to one
in particular?
Yes.
somebody who was in this room
or spent time
in this room, self-injured,
like, scratched
or clawed themselves
or, like, mutilated themselves
in some way.
Okay.
Was someone hanged
in this space?
'cause there's like
frantic, frantic, frantic,
self-mutilation,
and then...
Hanging, hanging.
Stuck the broom up
between the pipes like so
and then jumped off the bed.
Someone hung themselves.
- Yeah.
- What?
Yeah.
When someone became
housed there,
how often did they leave
because they found housing
elsewhere versus them dying?
Not very often.
The ramp up of activity
at the randolph county infirmary
could be connected to
any number of tragic deaths.
Chip just picked up on one.
And then...
Hanging, hanging.
Someone hung themselves.
- Yeah.
- What?
Yeah.
Can I get your read
on one thing upstairs?
Okay.
do you get anything
from these items here?
- do we know who it belonged to?
- No.
No, we'd love to find
that out, though.
Peg leg.
Does anything happen
if you touch it?
Will you like --
does it change your...
there's something to do
with a carnival.
- Mnh-mnh.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- That's all I got.
Okay.
Chip picked up immediately
on the fact
that hundreds of people
had died here.
He picked up on ida gunkle
very clearly.
Picked up on
that prosthetic leg.
Research is gonna be key here.
we are at the randolph county
historical society and museum
to meet with ted.
He's got a lot of information
about the infirmary
that I think will help us
in our investigation
and helps us
get more activity
and helps us get more answers
as to who is here and why.
It seems to me
like the infirmary
is kind of a hub of history
for winchester.
- Would you say that or...
- I would say it is.
From the day that place
opened in 1899 until it closed,
there was 1,487 people
went through that.
- Wow.
- That's a lot of natural death.
So when someone became
housed there,
how often did they leave
because they found housing
elsewhere versus them dying?
Not very often.
All of these
are the 1,487 people.
This is amazing.
Can I take a look at that?
Sure.
Yeah, that's incredible.
It says what was wrong with them
when they were admitted,
how old they were,
what their race was, gender.
How would you describe
the infirmary?
It was a good facility.
It was meant to be kind.
Right.
It was meant to be good
for people.
Truth of matter is they lived
from buzzer to buzzer.
There's a bell system, that went
off at 7:00 in the morning,
that means get up.
8:00 is breakfast.
12:00, noon,
would've been lunch.
5:00 was supper time.
10:30 is lights out. Okay?
- That's crazy.
- They liked order, structure?
That was their routine.
Something was telling them
what to do.
Do you think that that was
overall a happy place?
I think, more for the ladies
than the men,
it was probably a refuge,
but probably like a controlled
prison for the men.
can we borrow this binder?
- Sure, you can.
- Awesome.
All right. Thank you, sir.
The people who lived and died
were all about
order and routine.
According to greg and dana,
the sigils that are
in this building,
the person who wrote them,
it was with the intent
to create an uptick in activity,
a surge in activity.
They wanted to make this
a kind of paranormal fun house.
I could see why that would
disturb the resident ghosts.
I've been going through here
and I'm trying to find
all the people
that had their legs amputated.
I found one.
I don't see another one.
Okay.
Harry dunn, leg amputated.
He kept coming back.
See what I mean? Like...
He was the one that went
to go work for the carnival.
remember, when chip was like
"carnival,"
something about a carnival.
- Yes!
There's something to do
with a carnival.
This harry dunn,
something happened.
He must've gotten
in an accident or something.
Eight days later,
leg amputated.
Obit. We have his obituary.
Right there.
Harry "peg" dunn.
His name was peg.
Peg leg.
- Guys, that is --
- that is his leg.
100% that is his leg.
That's his leg.
I think we'll have to bring chip
into the investigation.
Yes.
Tonight we're gonna bring
chip in to the investigation.
We're hopeful
that he might be able
to help us kind of confirm
our suspicions
that the gentleman
who most likely owned
that leg was named harry dunn.
I'm gonna set up
a flashlight.
One is yes, one is no,
and one is maybe.
Maybe they can
communicate with us.
Okay, I already got
it's the left leg.
It's the left leg.
- It is the left leg?
- Yep.
Is that a vibe
you're getting or...
Yep, because my left leg
hurts really bad.
It's an h.
- Right there.
- Harry "peg" dunn.
it just is a fun thing to do.
I'm like, "I'm going to scare
the **** out of them."
- what?
- The light came on.
"yeah, I just did it. I just did
it for **** and giggles."
We believe we've traced
the attack on a group of kids
back to an old resident
that lost his leg.
Now, chip has just
picked up on his name.
It is male.
It's an h.
It's an h.
It's henry, harold something.
We literally found
this information
out like five minutes ago.
We said, "let's see if chip
picks up on this guy,"
and within 45 seconds
you're like, "it's an h.
It's like harold or henry,"
and his name was harry.
Let's talk to this harry.
Mr. Dunn, are you here with us?
Can you let us know in some way?
you're not in any trouble.
No one wants you to leave.
There were some girls
in this room
and I'm just wondering
if you may have scared them.
I already got an answer for you,
if you want the answer.
What?
He's totally responsible.
-100%.
- Really?
Yes, and he did it
just for funsies,
just as a fun thing to do.
I'm like, "I'm going to scare
the **** out of them.
-100%.
- What?
- The light came on.
- "yeah, I just did it.
I just did it
for **** and giggles."
did you really do that?
Okay.
On.
I think he had fun
with those kids
'cause they were kids
and he worked in the carnival.
I don't think he's like
a normal resident.
- Does that make sense?
- Right. Right.
I don't feel like he's here
all the time.
Yeah.
He probably comes and goes
like he did when he was alive.
So making like growling
and like, "rah" noises ---
...And trying
to scare people like --
can I tell you
what he just said to me?
...Is a thing.
What?
"I'm not gonna hurt anybody."
yeah, I trust that.
I do, too.
A lot of what we do
is very destined, very fated.
And I feel like we have
these little moments
where we just have to like
bring these people ---
...Back into the light
for a second
and let people remember them
even though they would
have been long forgotten.
He's like a lot
of the other ones in here,
"just don't forget me."
yeah, we won't forget you.
You're definitely
not forgotten now, peg.
All right, peg.
He put up the light for you.
Yeah. Thank you, peg.
We'll continue
to tell your story, okay?
hi, adam. Good to see you.
- Welcome back.
- Amy.
- Thank you.
- Have a seat, if you don't mind.
You have a really great
building here.
We've got a ton
of information for you.
Good.
Our concern was the kids
because we were like --
yeah.
"we need to figure out
what that is."
yeah.
When I was talking
to brooklyn,
she had a very distinct
description of her experience.
She said, "I heard someone
who sounded like
they were having trouble
walking and they were stomping
but they weren't
walking right."
my brain was like,
"well, there is that leg
hanging on the wall
right outside the room
she was in,"
and so we focused
on that leg.
I could only find one amputee
in this book
and he did die here,
and so his name is harry dunn.
His nickname was "peg."
we called chip in,
and so he honed in
on harry being like a prankster,
like a jokester,
like he purposely tried
to scare the girls.
He was playing a prank on them.
He thought it was hysterical.
What we're saying there is
we don't think
that you have anything to worry
about as far as that incident.
It was a joke?
- Yeah.
- It was a joke.
- Absolutely.
- That's funny.
So the next thing we wanted
to focus on was the sigils.
The main thing to know
is that we don't think
there's anything
dangerous here.
Greg and dana are
coming back here today.
Okay.
And we just want to go through
and just properly close off
all those sigils
so that if we close
those off for them,
I think that's gonna
make them more comfortable.
we want to wipe away
those old symbols
because we don't know what
the intention was exactly.
It might've been good.
It might've been not good.
But because we don't know
and because you're
the owner of a place,
we want to start
with a blank slate.
Okay.
I made you a blend that is
basically all-purpose cleansers.
The symbol that I put
on the front of your bottle
is basically to renew
the building
and restore it back
to the energy level
that it was before the symbols
were put here
and literally just
wiping them away.
Just visualize them
disappearing as you do it.
Go back to being yourself.
I think our ultimate goal
has been accomplished.
We were able to put the space
back to a neutral position,
to order and to structure,
which is what the people here
really wanted
when they were alive,
and it's what they want now
that they've passed on
to the other side
and they can have no fears
in just going about the rest
of whatever
their existence is.
