Heartbreak High (1994–1999): Season 1, Episode 18 - Episode #1.18 - full transcript

The head gardener at the nursery where Nick and Danielle are participating in the school's work experience programme has a heart attack. Con arranges for Jodie and himself to work at a recording studio and lands her a job singing advertising jingles. A lack of attention from their respective partners helps to bring Nick and Dani together. With dreams of moving to Greece, Katerina attempts to reunite her parents.

All right. Party's over.

Danielle, please sit down, please.

Okay. Most of you will see

this is an opportunity
to have a week's holiday.

Yeah. Fun time.

Work experience is actually
a chance for you to look at different jobs

-that you might like to try--
-When you grow up.

When you leave school.
Growing up is your problem.

Okay. So, let's try
and make the most of it.

Okay. Peter Rivers,
Panel beaters, Warringah Road.

Thank you.
-Straighten up your head.

Don't talk about the teacher that way.
-Ha-ha.

Con and Jodie,
I think you know where you're going.

Lovely work, miss. Thank you.

-Steve, you're electricals.
-Thanks, miss.

-That's really good, Steve.
-Nick, local council nursery.

What?

I'm not wiping the nose
of some snotty little rat.

Not that nursery.
Plants and gardens.

What am I supposed to do,
sit and watch the grass grow?

Depends on what kind of grass.

Okay. And Danielle will be joining you.

-What about the gym?
-Sorry, that fell through.

-Rose, computer consulting service.
-Wicked.

Miss, I'm not going to this place.

-No way.
-Look, yes, you are.

You'll get the employer to sign you

in case you got any idea
of not showing up.

-I'd show up, miss. I'm a good boy.
-Are you a good boy? No.

So tell me what the big secret is.

-Where are you off to?
-Not a secret.

Con signed up a recording studio.

-Get off it.
-Why didn't I know about it?

-I knew you'd react this way.
-Nick, look, the first lesson in business

is to always play your cards
close to your chest.

-What chest?
-Come on, Jodie.

-You got a career to get on with.
-Where are you off to?

-You're gonna be a brain surgeon?
-No, working at the Golden Strand.

The holiday resort?
-Yeah, my dad knows the manager.

And what are they gonna get you
to do, play pokies or something?

No. You work in reception.

-Well, they must be desperate.
-Drop dead, you stupid…

I do not wanna be here. Do you?

-Nope.
-So, let's just get out of here.

Why don't we just hang around?
It's only for a week.

We'll go out the back, sit on the lawn,
work on our tan.

Beats being in an office, sure.

I suppose.
Why didn't they send us to the morgue?

It would've been fun.
At least we'd see the body.

Mr. Warne.

Mr. Warne.

Are you expecting
some work-experience students?

Nick Poulos, Danielle Miller?

What would you two know about plants?

They grow.

I don't know why
they waste my time like this.

All you kids want is a chance
to miss out on some bloody school.

If I had my way, I'd…

You know what this place was
before I came here?

A wasteland. Bare, barren.
You couldn't grow a pumpkin.

You know what changed it?

These.

They nurtured, they cultivated,

they fertilized, they worked.

Well, it looks pretty good now.

Good? Everybody comes here.

Five councils. Not one, five.

And you know why?

Because I know every leaf, every twig,

every stem intimately…

and that's why you're gonna do
exactly what you're told.

Nothing more, nothing less.

From the looks of you,
it'll be nothing bloody much.

Yeah. Yes. There you go.

Panel beaters on Warringah Road.

Yes, Peter Rivers here.

Yeah. I would like to order
five mag wheels, please.

Paid on delivery. Okey-dokey.

Yes, I am, sir. Thank you.

Bye.

Jodie, how's it going?

I've logged eight trays
of that crap already.

-At least at Ruby's I get paid.
-That's the name of the game.

You got to do things
that you don't really wanna do, you know?

-You have to get contacts.
-We're never gonna make any contacts.

We're just a couple of kids
just getting in the way.

Hi, mate. How you doing?

Listen. The biggest names
in the industry record here, right?

And here we are with a cup of coffee
in our hand right beside them, having fun.

Might as well be invisible.
They're never gonna notice me.

-You got to make them notice you.
-And how?

I don't know.
Do a striptease or something.

I was only joking, all right?

Don't get all negative.

Can I help you?

All right. You just leave it
to Mr. Bordino, all right?

By the end of this,
I'll have you signed up, all right?

Trust me.

It's all in my hands.

Your father never had
anything to do with resorts

-in his life.
-Mom.

Apart from trying
to stay in them for nothing.

You don't believe anything he says.

-No.
-That's why he doesn't tell you anything.

Katy, your father's persuasive.
He exaggerates things

-until he believes them himself.
-You're so negative.

I have to when it comes to your father.

He went to a lot of trouble
to get me this work experience.

You should be happy.
The other kids are in losers' jobs.

I wonder what he's getting out of it.

You make me so angry sometimes.

Just give the guy a chance.

I have, about a million times.

Yeah. Have you really?

Clean up your room!

Do it yourself!

Morning tea's not till 11:30.

This stuff stinks. What's in it?

It's the ground-up bodies
of dead people.

Yuck. And my hands are in it?

It's a lot of bone.

-That's what he does in that shed of his.
-What?

Grounds up the body of little dead kids.

Wacky Warne, the serial killer.

He sneaks up behind them…

and with those intimate little hands
of his, he squeezes the--

Nick. Nick, stop it!

What the bloody hell
do you think you're doing?

You wanna get rolling in the hay,
you're not gonna do it in my time.

I was about to bring the compost in.

Yeah. Sex, sex, bloody sex,
that's all you kids think of.

Well, not here. Not in my place.

We weren't doing anything.

And it's no place for skinny tarts
with long fingernails

-and fancy hairdos, either.
-Hey, just wait a second.

You can't talk to her like that.

Is that right? Well, if you don't like it,

you and your girlfriend
can nick off out of here.

I'm going.

What a creep.
We should've given this place a miss.

We should just leave right now.

That's exactly what he wants us to do.

And for once, I'm with him.

Well, where are we gonna go?

I don't know. Just go to the beach.

Fatoush would find out and we're gonna
end up back at school doing nothing.

What a riot.
They get slave labor for nothing.

-We should hang around, have a laugh.
-You got a weird sense of humor.

I just can't stick a week with him.

What are you doing?

Just getting a run of the place,

taking a few names and…

doing my piece.

Is Dave here?

Who is looking for him?

-Jay McBride.
-Con Bordino. Nice to meet you, buddy.

This is my associate, Jodie Cooper.

You may have seen her before…

Sorry.

Lead singer for the Carpet Stains.

Haven't heard of them.
-They broke up.

You know this business.
People break up.

You know, the Divinyls,
Crowded House, Carpet Stains.

They're not all the same
without Jodie Cooper.

So, don't forget that name,
"Jodie Cooper."

Okay? Jodie Cooper, the one and only.

Mh? See what I do for you, mate?
Now that's how it's done.

You are a serious embarrassment.

Bride.

McBride.

McBride, McBride.

Voilà You see?

In the pocket.

How come I'm not allowed to talk to her
unless Con says it's all right?

That's crap.

Not crap. Why wouldn't she tell me
where she was going?

-I don't know.
-Con told her not to

as if he owns her.

He's trying to be her manager.
That's what they do.

-What am I to do? Make an appointment?
-Are you jealous?

Don't you start.

She's a good singer, she could be huge.

Great. I'll never see her.

He's trying to be her manager.

At least he's not trying
to get into her pants.

He better not think about it.

-He's your cousin.
-Don't care.

Cousin or not,
if he gets near her, I'll break his face.

I wish Steve felt like that.

-He does.
-Yeah.

As soon as I'm out of sight,

he's checking out
every good-looking girl around.

-What's the harm in looking?
-He even does it when I'm there.

It doesn't mean anything.

Then why does he do it?

I don't know why you're worried.

None of them are as good looking as you.

-Mom.
-Yeah.

You got a visitor.

Who is it, darling?

It's just me and you.

-Cha-cha-cha.
-I don't believe it.

-What are you doing here?
-He brought you flowers.

-I don't want them.
-You look beautiful angry.

Dimitri, get out!

I invited him here.

Right.

I want to talk to you.

And you stay there
and don't touch anything.

So this is where you live?

Very nice.

Get in there.

How dare you invite him here?

-He just wanted to talk.
-You could've at least asked me first!

-And you would've said no.
-That is not the point!

Mom, it is the point.

Look, he might be your ex-husband,
but he's my father.

He's got every right to see me.

Why are you doing this?

-Doing what?
-Don't act all innocent.

Come on. Now, look,

there is no way he and I
are ever gonna get back together again.

Mom, I didn't set this up.

He wanted to see both of us, believe me.

Really? What about?

I don't know. Some sort of surprise.

Well, he's full of surprises.

I knew you'd be like this.
You never listen.

Not to me, not to him.

Katy.

George Poulos.

My father was a big fan
of yours in the old days.

-You are…?
-I'm sorry.

Dimitri, Dimitri Ioannou.
Stella's husband.

Thank you for looking after the family.

Other way around, they look after me.

-Come on. We're going to dinner.
-No. I have to cook dinner here.

Come on, Mom.

I booked the restaurant.
Seafood, you love it.

No.
I have to prepare dinner for the family.

Mom.

I'm in town two nights.

- Lots to talk about.
. Mr. Poulos, you don't mind cooking?

Whatever you wanna do, you do it.

Come on, Mom, please.

Just do it this once.

Just for me, as a family.

-Please?
-All right.

-Wonderful.
-All right.

Come on. We'll get ready.

My father would've been so excited to know
that I met the great George Poulos.

And of all places, Australia. Heh.

It's funny, isn't it?

World's such a small place, George?

First day on the job,
I nearly get the boot.

Guy comes in with five mag wheels
and starts demanding money.

Said I'd ordered them.

Nearly hit the dude.

Yo, man. Hey.

Guess who I saw today?

Who, mate? Tell me who?

Jay McBride.

-Jay McBride?
-Yeah.

Never heard of the guy.

Mate, he happens to be the hottest
agency producer in town.

-Big deal.
-Of course big deal.

That's what he is, mate.

He is responsible for half the ads
you see on televisions, you know?

-You'd be able to get me a job?
-With a face like yours, I doubt it.

Get a life, Con.

Hey, he is really interested in you, mate.

Impressed with a capital "I."

Lay off.

-Sounds like poosty.
-No, mate.

He ain't no poosty.
Okay. He's a good man.

He is a very good-looking man, too.
He's stylish.

He sounds like a bit of a turkey.

-Look, he's nice.
-What's he gonna get you to do?

-Sing for toilet paper commercials?
-You know what your problem is?

-Nick--
-What's my problem?

An attitude problem.

-You think so?
-Yes, I do.

-Do you?
-Yeah, I do.

Stop it.

Just because you've had a bad day,
don't ruin ours.

Who said I had a bad day?

My day went just fine, all right?
Until you came along.

See you later.

I'm taking one.

So what's the big surprise?

Remember Uncle Stavros from Corfu?

No.

He died last month, God bless him.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Yeah, he was very old…

and very rich.

-Rich?
-Rich.

He owned a chain of resorts on Corfu.
And guess what?

Stun me.

He left me one in his will.

A resort?

Didn't I tell you fate
always looked after Dimitri?

Every time you rolled the dice.

Mom, that's not very nice.

Okay, okay, so your luck has changed.

Not mine, ours.

There's this finance bloke,
like this with a bank in Athens.

No.

They've agreed to put up money
for improvements.

Just think of it.

Summer, thousands of tourists.

And winter, that's for us.

It's a gold mine.

Yeah. That's incredible.

I want us all to go there
and run it together.

Hang on a minute. Just--

It'll be great.

So that's how come you've teed up
this work experience job

for her at a resort?

Well, it's a great opportunity
for her and for us, too.

Very clever, Dimitri. Very--

Mom, I'd love to work in Greece,
especially Corfu.

Your mother knows.

-Corfu was where we spent our honeymoon.
-I didn't know that.

Yeah. We were the original
newlyweds from hell.

We hired this motorcycle
and rode all over the island,

up through mountains,
your mother hanging on for grim death.

Yeah. Eighty miles an hour
around blind corners.

The wind whipping past us all day,
and as the night fell,

we arrived at Paleokastritsa.

-What's that?
-The closest place to heaven.

And we watched the moon come up.

We made wishes and drank retsina.

Remember that beach?

Dimitri, stop it.

-Yeah, sounds like paradise.
-It is.

-To Corfu.
-Yeah.

Well…

Who's the bimbo?

Hey, she's no bimbo.

Her name's Elvie.

I know her from somewhere.

So where'd you pick her up?

Come on, I didn't pick her up.

She's an apprentice electrician
where I'm doing work experience.

I invited her for a game. That's all.

Lucky her. All those studs.
She better be careful.

She might electrocute herself.

I know where I've seen her.

The scrag that hangs around
all those pool holes.

She's no scrag, all right?

She just happens to be a very good player

and she's won a lot of money out of it.

What does she do, raffle herself off
at the end of the night?

Bitchy. She's very bitchy.

Hey, guess what?

We're gonna live in Greece.

Greece.
-Great?

That is by no means definite.

-It is as far as I'm concerned.
-Get out of here.

Sounds like quite a dinner.

You could say that.

Dimitri's inherited
a small resort in Corfu.

Corfu, beautiful.

Katerina's gonna love it.

Well, she might,
but I have other things to consider.

You'd have to go.
It's a great opportunity.

-You think so?
-You'll only regret it if you don't.

-What time are you finishing up?
-Late.

I'm gonna wait for you.

Look, I'm really tired.

You're always tired or busy.
If it's not one thing, it's the other.

-When do I get to see you?
-I'm not working tomorrow night.

You promise?

We can get together?

It's a date.

All right.

See what happens?
-Whoo! Yes, girl.

Hey, see you tomorrow.

Con messed up.

Set them up, mate.

-We're gonna bottle our own olives.
-Everyone does.

But what about school?

-I'm leaving.
-In your dreams.

I wish I was.

You're getting an education,
like it or not.

Why do I have to get an education
and she doesn't?

Why?

You are not leaving school
and that's that.

Well, you don't need a HSC when you're
gonna work in a resort, do you?

Can we come visit you?
-Sure.

-Have you been there, Mr. Poulos?
-Yes. A long time ago.

Papa told us about this place
where they make old movies.

What's it called?

Paleokastritsa.

Sounds so romantic. That's where
Mom and Dad had their honeymoon.

What are we gonna do if you go?

Stella, who's gonna make
my favorite stifado dish?

-You know how I love it.
-Housekeepers are a dime a dozen.

-You're not a housekeeper, you're more--
-We'll manage.

We're not gonna get in the way
of an opportunity like that.

-But it's just--
-Enough is enough.

Go and get ready for school.

Good.

Well, it was only a game of pool.

I know her game.

Flinging herself all over everyone.
Did you see her? What a dog.

I reckon she's a bit of a stunner.

She's a dog.

She's a dog, just say it.
Just say she's dog.

All right. She's a dog, okay?

-She's a dog. Yeah, a dog!
-Hey.

Whoo-hoo!

You imbeciles!

You think it's funny, do you?

See what your principal
has to say about this!

Get a life.

Looks like he changed his mind.

He's dead!

No, no.

He's dead.

I want you to breathe.

-I can't.
-You have to!

He's got no pulse, all right?

On the fifth one, okay?
One, two, three, four, five.

-Breathe.
-I can't.

He's gonna die, man. Do it.

One, two, three, four, five, breathe.

One, two, three, four, five, breathe.
That's good.

One, two, three, four, five.

Breathe. Again.
One, two, three, four, five.

That's it. Come on.

So where'd you learn CPR?

Um, down at the soccer club.

Lucky for him.

-Is he gonna be all right?
-Yeah, he should be, thanks to you.

Well, I don't think
he's gonna see it like that.

Danielle.

Danni.

Are you in here?

Hey.

Hey, it's all right.

He's gonna die, isn't he?

He's not. He's gonna be all right.

Did they say that?

I checked with the ambulance.
They said he's gonna pull through.

If he doesn't,
I made him have the heart attack.

-I killed him.
-It wasn't. It wasn't you, okay?

I did. I killed him.

It's not your fault.

It was just an accident, okay?

You have to understand
that it just happened.

Anyway, he's gonna be fine. I promise.

Are you sure?

Trust me.

Okay?

Hey.

You all right?

Yeah.

Sit down.

Hey, what have you been up today?

Playing the hero.
It must have been awful.

We're getting a medal for you
and everything.

Danielle told us
you saved this guy's life.

-Good stuff.
-What else did she say?

How terrified she was
and how great you were.

Yeah, well, all in a day's work
at the plant factory.

-Good, you're here. Thank you, Lord.
-What's the matter?

-We got to get to the recording studio.
-Why?

I'll fix it with Ruby.

-I'm not working tonight.
-Even better.

Don't think so. She's with me.

I don't think so. Didn't I tell you
Uncle Bordino will look after it?

The most important moment
of your life is here.

I think Uncle Bordino is deaf.

-She's got a date with her boyfriend.
-You want her to be a success?

Do you want this chick
to be a success?

Take a rain check, buddy, all right?

You're coming with me.
Come on. Let's go.

-Hey.
-I'm sorry.

Okay. Let's go. The Buick awaits.

-I don't want to sing jingles.
-Look at it this way.

His singer rang in sick, right?

It's a good chance. Don't blow it.

-I don't wanna do it.
-What have you got to lose?

-My reputation.
-All right.

If you had one, that's a good excuse.

At the moment, you don't have one.
This is a good chance to get one.

As what? Lead singer for toilet paper?

All right. Okay.

If you wanna think like that,
think of money.

And what's your cut?

Jodie, please, we're a team, all right?

Don't go all funny on me now, all right?

All right.

And by the way,
it's not for toilet paper, okay?

I'll be in the booth over there,
all right?

Effie, what's wrong?

Can I talk to you?

Of course. Come in.

Had you been crying or something?

No.

Come here. Sit down.

Been a bad day?

Me, too.

Everybody leaves me.

What do you mean, everybody?

First, it was Mom. Why'd she have to die?

I don't know.

And now Stella's going, too.

Is that what this is about?

I wish Dad could stop them.

You can't make her do something
she doesn't wanna do.

Why not?

That's just the way it works.

She said she liked it here.

Okay. Um…

All right. Just say…

you had a boyfriend
that you really liked a lot, okay?

And then you also like to play netball

but this guy
doesn't want you to play netball.

Why not?

He wants you to spend
all your time with him.

-It sounds like a dropkick.
-Exactly.

He's trying to make you do something
that you don't wanna do.

You reckon Stella won't like me anymore?

Of course she likes you, but,

if she's going to Greece, you know,

you got to be happy for her.

But I'm not happy, I don't want her to go.

Yeah, I know.

Again. Once more, Jodie.

All right. This is good. She's good.

Don't worry.
I have confidence in her.

Ocean, calm before the storm

A drop of ocean

And watch your clothes transform

The sun will shine so bright

Like waves of dazzling white

Just like the ocean

Washing over you

Ocean

Mighty waves to Mountain Dew

The sun will shine so bright

Like waves of dazzling white

Just like the ocean

Clothes come up like new

Ocean

You'll love the ocean view

What did I tell you? She's good.

More work, but she'll get there.

Okay, Jodie. Good one.

We're going again.

This time,
just a little bit more on "ocean."

O-cean. Ocean!

Ocean.

Hope you haven't got
any plans for tonight.

It should be good. Look, I'll just…

Ocean. Ocean.

So Portugal have had
to shrug aside their problems…

I thought you'd gone to bed.

Nah.

I don't feel like sleeping.

What's the score?

I don't know. Must have dozed off.

You know Effie's very upset?

She'll get over it.

She thinks you can stop Stella from going.

Hey, take it. Take it.

Come on. Come on. Yes!

Yes! Yes!

Maybe you're the one
that doesn't want her to go.

She belongs with her husband.

-It's her ex-husband.
-I don't care.

One man doesn't covet
another man's woman.

-Since when?
-Since forever.

A matter of honor.
Honor's the basis of civilization.

Yeah, and Greeks invented civilization.
What else have you got to say?

It's a code of behavior I'm talking about.

I don't want to hear
you've stolen another man's woman.

I don't have to.

They fall at my feet.

-Take a look at yourself.
-Bravo.

Hey, I'll handle this.

Hey, I'll do that.

Hey, I'll do it. I'll do it. Come on.

To think I almost fell for it.

-You dry.
-I'm such an idiot.

You'd think I'd have learned
after all these years.

-Dimitri?
-Dimitri.

Dimitri the charmer.

Dimitri the big shot, Dimitri the liar.

-Do you know what he did?
-What?

He had the gall, the absolute gall
to ask me for our airfares

to travel to his palace in Corfu.

-And you know why?
-Why?

Because he blew all his money
on another bloody poker game.

-So you're going to Greece?
-Greece.

I wouldn't go across the street with him.

Sorry.

It's okay, hey.

We're even, okay?

Let's forget the washing up.

-Drink?
-Drink.

Soap powder.

I thought you were serious about singing.

I am. It's just a start.

A start to what?

Becoming some advertising bimbo?
Is that what you want?

-Plenty of singers do ads.
-Yeah? Name one.

-Come on.
-John Farnham.

Farnham doesn't spend the night
with some advertising jerk-off

-to get a job.
-Get stuffed, Nick.

Does the truth hurt?

-I did not spend the night with him.
-Yeah?

-We were working.
-Why didn't you ring me?

Do I have to ring you for your permission?
We were stuck in a recording booth.

Good morning.
How's my favorite client?

Have you heard this girl sing?
She sings like an angel.

What are you hitting me for?

-Do you think I'm stupid?
-He just bought me breakfast.

What about the kiss?

-You think I didn't see the kiss?
-For God's sake, it meant nothing.

-Right.
-It was a friendly kiss.

Listen. If you'd rather
hang out with that wanker

driving around
a $50,000 sports car, that's fine.

All right?
Maybe I'm not in your league.

Did I say something?

Get lost.

We could have had a house
and been like a real family.

-It's not like that anymore.
-The least you could do is give it a go.

We are not going.

Well I am and no one's gonna stop me.

Who's gonna pay for the fare?
Not your father, for sure.

-You spoil everything.
-It's not me who spoils everything.

Yeah, I know you hate him.

-Well, I hate you.
-Don't say that. She's your mother.

That's right. You'll do as you're told!

Can't make me. I'll run away.

Where? You could end up on the street.

I don't care. Anywhere away from her.

-Don't talk to your mother like that.
-Shut up!

You're not my father.

I'm sorry.

Hang on, will you, Nick? Please?

What do you want?

I just wanna talk to you, all right?
Nothing happened.

That's just the way
the recording industry is.

You know, time is money.
You keep going on until you finish.

Con, you've been in the business
for five minutes.

You think you're an expert.

Don't be an imbecile
all your life, please.

You're the imbecile!

You getting sucked in by those phonies.

Hey, it was seven o'clock
when we put the track down.

McBride took Jodie to breakfast.
She was starving, end of story.

-What do you want me to say?
-Were you there?

-I want to know.
-No, I had paperwork.

So how do you know
it was the end of story?

-Hey.
-Hi.

So what are we gonna do now,
go back to school?

Tidy this place up.

You could start off by cleaning up
the pots down the back.

Aren't you supposed to be in the hospital?

-Signed myself out.
-Are you okay?

Fit as a fiddle.
I want to show you something.

-Come here.
-You're supposed to be in a hospital.

The doctor tells me you saved my life.
That right?

That's right. I gave you some CPR.

I bet that stuck in your craw?

And you can admit it.
Let the old bastard croak, right?

-That's what you were thinking.
-I didn't have time to think.

Well, I wouldn't blame you.

See, after a brush with the Almighty,
you start thinking.

Thinking about
what you've done right, wrong.

A man can spend too much time alone.

Scared to talk to people.

I wasn't always like that.
When the wife and kids were here, well…

What happened to them?

They moved out of state.

Nobody to blame but myself.

Sometimes you don't know
what you've got until it's gone.

I never thought I needed anybody else.

You two showed me different.

I was wrong about you.

And I apologize.

-It's all right.
-That's okay.

I've got something for you to say thanks.

"What's in a name?

A rose by any other name

would smell so sweet."

-You know that?
-What?

-Romeo and Juliet.
-It's beautiful.

-All right.
-Yeah.

It's the only one in existence.

-I bred it myself.
-Yeah?

I've been trying to think what to call it.

I decided to name it after you two.

"Passion."

Even an old fool like me
can see that's what you've got.

See, plants can tell you things.

You give them love,

you give them care,
and you watch them flourish.

Do the same for each other.

And feed her up a bit.

She's too skinny.

Yeah.

-I feel sorry for him.
-Yeah, I know.

He's not such a bad bloke after all,
is he?

So what are we gonna do with that?

Why don't you take it home
and plant in your backyard?

He gave it to both of us,
and besides, the dog would just dig it up.

All right. Then we'll take it to school.

And explain how we got a rose
called Passion?

And what if it dies?

Can I come in?

I wanna ask you a favor.

What?

To reconsider your decision
for your mother's sake.

-She doesn't care what happens to me.
-That's not true.

She cares very much about you.

She's getting back at him
by stopping me.

Rubbish.

Look, she's worried about you
getting hurt.

-How could I if I'm with my dad?
-Your father…

You know… Okay.

Your father,

he's got a lot of stuff
to organize in Corfu.

And I'll help him.

Let him go first, set it up.
You stay here, get your HSC.

That way you're gonna be
a bigger asset when you do go.

If I'm there, it doesn't matter.

It matters wherever you are.
Now look at me.

A loser with a loser's job.

I know what you've been saying,
but you're right.

I didn't have the opportunities
that you have.

All I wanna do is go to Greece.

How can you be Greek
if you haven't even been there?

Katerina,

being Greek is not where you live,

it's who you are inside,

how you feel.

Nick is Greek, Effie is Greek.

We're all part of one big family.
That's what being Greek is about.

And I would like you to be part
of this Greek family

for a bit longer.

What do you say?

Mom.

I'm gonna stay.

Glad to hear it.

You were right.
Dad's got a lot to learn.

We all have.

I guess I just got to get used
to not having him around.

Darling, you know
you can see him anytime you want.

Even in Corfu?

As long as he pays.

Come here.

Hey, you know something?

You should apologize to Mr. Poulos
for your outburst this morning.

-Yeah, I already have.
-Good girl.

I guess I've got to learn
to keep my mouth shut.

That's a skill I think
we've got to all learn to master.

You know, he's nice.

Mr. Poulos?

Yeah, I think so.

Anyway, I better go to bed.

-Good night, baby.
-Good night.

She's staying?

Good. I'm relieved.

Didn't wanna lose
your star housekeeper?

Yeah, and other things.

Other things?

We've become very fond of you.

That's nice.

I've been doing a lot of thinking.

-And?
-I don't have to work with that McBride.

-Did I just hear you right? Hey?
-Keep out of it.

Keep out of it. Okay.

I'd like to spend
some more time together.

Are you insane, Jodie?

Shut up.

You're gonna pass
a chance of a lifetime for that?

Shut up.

You're sick.

That's what you are.

What do you say?
