Heartbreak High (1994–1999): Season 1, Episode 19 - Episode #1.19 - full transcript

While trying to earn some extra money, Rivers unknowingly buys some stolen car parts though Con but refuses to name his supplier when the police charge him. Nick is conflicted when Steve confides in him that he thinks Danielle is seeing someone else - an accusation Jodie also makes against Nick. Con clears Rivers' name but pays the price.

You better get cracking,
sweetie pie.

You'll be late.

Hello. Anyone home?

Just happened one morning, doctor.
That's right, struck deaf and dumb

while working on the car, poor kid.

Must have hit his head on the fan belt.

It's time for school, sweetie.
Have you had something to eat?

Yup.
-How's it going?

Getting there.

What are you doing?

You said you were gonna lay off
in the mornings.

-I'll bet you haven't even had breakfast.
-I need a little kick-start, love.

You two want anything else?

Hey, shouldn't you be getting off
to school?

-Yeah. We're going soon.
-Good.

You look like a couple
of wax dummies sitting there like that.

You could put people off their food.

So, what else do I have to say?

You don't have to say anything.

Look, I knew all along you didn't--
You know, with that guy.

Didn't what?

I mean, it's pretty stupid of me
being jealous of someone like that, right?

-You reckon?
-Yeah.

For starters, look at how old the guy is.

He's got a cool car.

He's just a show-off.

He told me his sunnies cost him 200 bucks.

Well, with a head like that,
you'd need 200 dollar sunnies.

Hey, he's really not that bad.

Look. What are you saying?

What are you trying to say here?

-What's so funny?
-I'm sorry.

Look, I couldn't resist.

I know you trust me,
and that's so important.

Almost as important
as how much you care about me.

Hey, hey. What do you two think this is?
The tunnel of love?

Come on, get out of here.

Come on.

Bread, margarine,
eggs and sausages.

I reckon that'll just about do us.

Doesn't sound really inviting.

It's all we can afford.

Don't be sweet.
I get my check today.

Yeah, but we have to pay
the rent and the gas.

Worry, worry, worry.
You're like an old man sometimes.

There's gonna be nothing left
from your pension, you know that.

We'll get by.

Always have, always will.

-You're gonna sell that car, aren't you?
-Yes, but I don't know when.

Dad and Les won't be getting out of jail
for another couple of months.

Until then, we have to work out how much
we can spend each week and stick to it, okay?

It's a very good idea.

You will remember to go the shops,
won't you?

Yes, I will.

Hey, hey, hey, hey.

Goodbye, my angel.

I only said it was cool.
Don't get too excited, mate.

-Hi, guys.
-Hey.

Anyone done the maths homework?
-Yeah, I did.

No. Sorry.

Can I check what you've got?

I'll give it to you in class, mate.

Yeah. Cool.

How've you been?

Hey, hey, hey, hey.

Hey, Rivers, mate, what's this for?
Is that for auto-tech or something?

No, mate, it's for lunch.

Strictly speaking, Rivers,

you're not supposed to be working
on your own project in school time.

Yeah, I know, but we're doing gearboxes
at the moment

and the car here only has one in it.

I'll write it up and do a diagram
and you can check it.

Come on, sir, you've got to let me.
I'm in a hurry to get it finished.

-And you want to sell it?
-Yeah.

Well, can I or not?

Okay, okay, fair enough.

Um…

How are things at home?

All right.

Money's a bit tight, is it?

Not really.

-Well, I'll see how you're going later on.
-Thanks.

-You got a minute?
-No.

-It's Peter Rivers.
-So?

He's having a few problems
at the moment.

I've tried talking to him,
but he just seems to close right up.

What, your rustic charm failing you, Bill?

-You know about his father.
-Yeah. Of course, I do.

Well, Rivers must be doing pretty tough
at the moment.

Well, if he's not gonna talk to you,
what makes you think he'll talk to me?

Peter hasn't set foot in my office once.

You're the school shrink, aren't you?
Do something about it.

Well, seeing as you asked so nicely.

Hey, Rivers, mate, what are you doing?
Converting the?

Putting it on the floor?

Where did you get the gearbox,
off a Porsche?

-Why are you so interested?
-I'm always thinking of businesses--

Well, you don't have business
with me, so…

Okay. All right.

Don't wanna talk, fine by me.

Wait a minute. Con!
Mate, come here.

When you wanna talk, you come here.
I'm not coming to you.

Look, you wouldn't know where I could get
a shift assembly from, do you?

What, you wanna talk to me now?
-Do you or don't you?

-Um, yeah. I might know.
-What sort of price?

Well, it should be
pretty reasonable, okay?

All right? Just leave it to me.

-I'll find out for you.
-Thanks.

Hey...

Listen, Rivers,
when you're thinking of selling that -

-I'll put an ad in the paper.
-Okay. Just give me yell. Okay?

Just let me know and I can get rid of it
for you, quick smart.

You got any work
to get on with today, Mr. Bordino?

Yes, sir. I was just, showing
Mr. Rivers over here

something about the gearbox.

Righto. I'll be over there in a minute
to see what you've done.

Yes, sir. Sorry.

Rivers, give me a call.

Peter. Peter, can I have a word?

Yeah. Sure.
-What's that?

That's a gear--
Everyone, this is a gearbox.

-A gearbox.
-Look, listen.

I've been talking to Mr. Southgate.
-Yes.

And he thinks that you might be in need
of a little bit of financial assistance.

Well, he's wrong.

There are grants and things I can organize
for you and your mom if you needed.

-That's charity, miss.
-No, it's not.

It's help and sometimes you need it.

Well, I'm not interested, okay?

You're not embarrassed, are you?

Do I look embarrassed?

Thanks very much, miss,
but I'm fine, okay?

It's funny really.
You're so wrapped in Jodie.

And me in Steve, I mean…

fancy us kissing.

You and me.

Even though it didn't mean anything,

I'd hate it if Steve and Jodie
ever found out.

I'm glad you said that.

-Why? You didn't think…
-No.

It just makes me feel better,
that's all.

Hi.

Hey.
-Are you ready?

-Hi.
-Yeah.

-Are you coming, Danni?
-Um…

No. I've gotta see Rose about something.
I'll catch up with you guys.

See you tomorrow.
-See you.

See you.

Where's Steve?

I don't know.

Did you go up the shops?

What sort of a greeting's that
for your old mom?

-Did you?
-Yes. Of course, I did.

Hey. What do you reckon?

-About what?
-Well, look.

Miss Australia 1970 or what?

All right.

But you must admit.
I still have very nice legs.

Yeah, when you can stand up.

There's no need to get narky.

Didn't even give me a kiss
when you came in.

Look, Mom,
I'm not in the mood, all right?

No, that's your problem, you know?

You never let your hair down.
You're never gonna get any girl…

-Where are you going anyway?
-…interested in you with that face.

I'm going out.

Not to the hotel again?
Remember what happened last time?

No, I'm going to the Hartley High

year 11 and 12 parent and teacher night

to talk to the teachers
about my little boy.

Where'd you get that?

I found it in the rubbish bin
funnily enough.

You're not going. You look like some
old boiler from the massage parlor.

You can call me all the names
you like, I'm going.

-Look, sit down.
-I'm okay.

-Sit down.
-I'm all right.

Sit down and I'll make you a cuppa.

You're not going.

Come on.

-Right, that's it, let's go.
-I'm all right.

No, you're not.
You're a bloody embarrassment.

You can't say that, Peter,
I'm your mother.

Yeah.

Is that him over there?

Let's go.

Peter.

Sorry.
-Peter, pick that up, will you?

Hell of a way to introduce myself.

I'm Bonnie Rivers.

-How are you, Bonnie?
-Southgate.

-That's right.
-That's right.

Have a seat.
-Thank you.

I'm glad to hear you say he's doing well.
He's a good kid.

Yes, he is, and he's improving every day.

Well, that's great.

So, um, how are things going
at the moment?

They're good. They're good.

It's a bit hard. You know,
his father's not here at the moment,

and there's only me to look after him.

-There's people waiting, Mom.
-Peter.

Typical. Hates socializing, hates talking.
You've got to drag everything out of him.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean.

It's his father all over again.

I didn't find out lots of things about him
until I'd been married to him for years.

We have to go, Mom.

Just let me say goodbye.

It's been a real pleasure
to meet you, Bill.

And you too, Bonnie.

I never thought one of Petey's teachers
would turn out to be

a good-looking fella like you.

You've got very nice eyes.

-Did anyone ever tell you that?
-Come on, Mom.

Don't forget your coffee.

-Thanks, Bill.
-Come on, Mom!

See you later.

In fact, I hope to see you again.

Yeah. Bye.

Hey, Peter, he's really nice.

He really likes you.

-Hey, Rivers.
-Go crawl back in your hole, Bordino.

Don't talk to people like that, Peter.

Fine by me, mate.
You don't want those parts,

-I'll give them to someone else.
-Hey, Con!

Mate.

-You wanna talk about it?
-I do. You got them here?

Yeah, they're outside in the car.
Let's go get them.

-Are you a friend of Petey's, love?
-I wouldn't say a friend.

Let's just say I know him.
Con Bordino is my name.

Bonnie Rivers. I'm Pete's mom.

Nice to meet you.
-Where's your mom and dad?

They never come to these sort of things.

You're by yourself?
-Yeah, yeah.

You know, I've got to make those teachers
give me an "A" grade,

-you know what I mean?
-Well, if you ever want to come up

-for a meal or something--
-Are you coming or what?

Yeah, just hang on!

The moon came up
The sun went down...

Peter, can I have a word?

I kept my mouth shut
And waited for the sound

Of your footsteps on the stair

I knew you'd be around...

You men are all alike.

Your father and your brother
used to use the kitchen

like a garage washroom too.

I wanna talk to you, love.

First thing is, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

You were right.
I shouldn't have gone last night.

Don't, Mom, all right? Don't.

Don't apologize, 'cause I can't stand it.

I've heard it a million times.

You're sorry we haven't got any money,
'cause you spent it.

You're sorry you went off for a few days
and didn't tell me where you were going.

And you're sorry we haven't got a life.

All right?
And you'll be sorry the next time,

the time after that,
and the time after that!

But keep it to yourself, it's pathetic
and I don’t want to know about it.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I let you down,
like I always let you down.

I'll make you a cuppa, Mom, all right?

No, sit down.

Sit down!

Sit down. I want to talk to you.

Now, look.

I'm gonna try.

This time I mean really try.

I know it sounds
like another load of crap…

-Mom--
-…but I am.

I'm gonna join AA, and if I fall off,

I'm gonna try again and again and again.

Hey, how you going, Rivers?
Rivers! Hey, Rivers!

-You got your history assignment?
-Yeah.

-So when did you speak to this bloke?
-Spoke to him just before school.

And you said he was going to buy it
for five grand?

No, no, no, no,
I said he was interested.

Well, that's a bit different to saying
he's gonna buy it, isn't it?

Look, I'm doing the selling, all right?
It's organized, okay?

5,200, all right?

Two hundred commission…
Come on, all right?

And you keep the 5,000. All right?
Are you happy with that?

-Are you happy?
-Happy.

It should be a bit cooler today?
-Yeah.

Hey, Steve. Um...

-I'll catch you later, okay?
-Where you going?

I just have to see Miss Milano
about something.

I wish she'd tell me what it is,
you know, what's wrong with her.

What?

I don't know.
Whatever her problem is.

I haven't noticed anything.

Yeah, well, it's like
I'm a million miles away, you know.

I might go and get a drink, okay?

She doesn't…
She doesn't talk to me anymore.

And she won't let me touch her.

It's like-- I don't know.

It's like she's freezing me out,
you know.

It's probably just some mood
that she's going through.

It's more than that, man, it's…

Man, you know what girls are like.
I mean, you don't know what to expect.

I think she's seeing someone else.

Nah.

-I'm sure of that, I really am.
-No way, man.

When you were doing work experience…

did she mention anyone
that you didn't know?

-No.
-Think about it, man, are you sure?

I don't know. I can't remember.

I know this may sounds stupid to you,
but, you know, I wish--

I wish I knew what it was.

Because it's not knowing--
it's not knowing that drives you crazy.

Mate, I wish I could help you out.

Yeah, I wish you could too, mate.

Well, he reckons you two have got
really big problems.

He's not wrong there.

-He's upset about it.
-I know.

-So what are you gonna do about it?
-Got any ideas?

Well, I didn't do anything, did I?

I think you know the answer to that.

If it had anything to do with me…

I don't know. I'd just feel really bad.

You know that I feel strongly about you.

And if you're honest with yourself,

you'll realize you feel the same way
about me.

No. No way. No.

We've got to be upfront
with each other, Nick,

even if we decide
not to do anything about it.

I just don't know
about this whole thing, all right?

And I just don't want you
to push it, okay?

Hey, what are you doing
all locked up in here?

I've decided to make a few changes
to my English essay.

Well, what for?
You're gonna get an A as usual.

I want it to be better.

Well, it's a beautiful day outside.
I think you're missing out.

Look, I've really got to do this.

You sure you don't want a bit of company?

Nick, I've really got to finish this.

Nick.

Come on, I just want a bit of a cuddle.

Come on, I've really got
to get on with this, okay?

Okay.

Hey, how was your mate's mom
last night?

What a classic. Talk about smashed.

She was all right, mate,
leave him alone.

What're you going on about?
What, have you discovered

that you guys are suddenly related
or something?

No, no. Look, I know he's been
a bit of a knob in the past,

but that's the past, all right?

He's not disturbing anyone.
Just leave him alone.

Where's your gearbox?

I put it back in the car.

Your drawing?

No, it's just a rough.

I'm glad your mother came last night.

-Yeah, look, I'm sorry about that.
-What for?

I was pleased to meet her.

Miss Fatoush tells me
she had a word with you yesterday.

Yeah. Look, we don't need any help, okay?

Glad to hear it.

Thanks.

Hey, what are you blokes doing there?

Peter.
-Yeah.

This way, doll. Down here.

Not bad, the new regime, is it?

-I rang AA and I kick off next week.
-Strewth.

Come into the kitchen
and I'll put the kettle on.

Lucky we didn't catch typhoid
in here before.

-That must've taken you hours.
-A few.

-But it makes a difference, doesn't it?
-A bit.

How was your day?

Not bad.

Actually, Con Bordino reckons
he can get rid of the car for me.

You're kidding. How much?

Five grand.

Wow, we're really cooking with gas now.

-I haven't sold it yet, Mom.
-Yes, but you will.

You know you will.
You did a great a job on it.

And between that and my pension

and the money we'll save
from me off the booze,

we might be able to afford
a few little treats, you know,

maybe even a little holiday.

Let's just take it
one step at a time, okay?

One step at a time. Okay.

Peter, you better come inside.

-Yeah, a couple minutes, Mom.
-You don't understand.

There are two detectives here
to see you.

Peter. Detective Monaghan.

You remember Detective Monaghan,
don't you, Peter?

-Yeah.
-We have reason to believe

that car you're working on out there
might contain stolen parts.

Why?

We have information
that a student from Hartley High

is involved in a local parts racket.

And what's that got to do with me?

Come off it, son.

With your record, your father
and your brother both serving time…

Yes, but what's got to do with him?
There are a million--

Last week, a Kingswood was stolen
from Hartley Shopping Center.

The owner was able to give us
a list of parts with the serial numbers.

So what?
You want me to pull the car apart

and show you what's in there?

-I've just finished the thing.
-You don't have to do that, Petey.

-You just have--
-You got two choices.

We can cut out what we want
with an oxy torch

or you can tag it out for us.

Which is it gonna be?

Come on.

Come on.

Hey, where were you
when they were handing out the manners?

Same place you were
when they were handing out the brains

and the good looks, I suppose.

Look, you've taken the bloody car apart,
you've ruined all his good work,

and what have you found? Nothing.

You are the ones committing the crime.

We have to check everything, Mrs. Rivers.

Gearbox?

Gearbox. K-W-7-4-2-9-9-4-3.

Look, I've had this.
I'm filing a complaint.

We haven't finished yet.

What about the shift assembly?

Shift assembly. K-W-6-0-0-2-4-9.

Look, you've got nothing on him
and you know it.

Bingo!

All right. Where did you get it, son?

Off an old wreck in Allen Street.

Peter?

That's where I got it.

How do you explain
the matching serial numbers?

Must be a mistake.

-Tell him.
-Shut up, Mom.

-Tell him what?
-You know what I'm talking about.

He's involved in the stolen parts racket.

-No, he's not involved--
-Shut up, Mom!

Peter Rivers, I'm arresting you
for selling stolen parts at school.

-Wait a minute.
-Great.

That's weak. You can't--

-Who did you get them from?
-No way, man.

You're a bloody idiot!

We'll continue at the station.
After further questioning,

you may be charged
with a number of other offences.

Your father, your brother and you.
I really picked a winning ticket.

-The bloody trifecta.
-It wasn't my fault.

"It wasn't my fault."
"It was an accident."

"The coppers loaded me up."
"The other blood let me down."

Do you know how many times
I've heard that kind of garbage

from your father and your brother
over the years?

-It wasn't my fault!
-More times than I can remember.

I didn't do anything.

-And that is the worst thing.
-Why?

You're taking the rap
for that Bordino kid.

What are you,
a bloody social worker?

-Did I have a choice?
-Yes, you had a choice.

You could've told them the truth.

I'm not a dog.

No, you're not a dog.

You're your useless father
and brother all over again!

"Never put anybody in.
Be a good crim."

Bet you'd keep your stupid mouth shut
if they were gonna hang you.

Well, it didn't last long, did it,
mother dearest?

I had it put away for emergencies.
I must've known something.

-Well, drink up.
-Get out of my sight. You make me sick.

Go!

Where would I find the office?

You see that big building over there?
-Thanks.

Big building.

-Wonder who they're busting.
-I don't know.

It must be pretty serious.
They usually send out those uniforms.

Hi, Danni!

What's wrong, mate? What?
Do we smell like scud bugs?

We've known for some time that a student
from this school has been involved.

All right. Who was it?

We arrested and charged a boy last night,

Peter Rivers.
-You're joking.

I don't know why you'd be so surprised.
He's got a pretty extensive record.

His brother and his father
are both serving time.

Yes, I'm aware of that…

But he has been doing
a lot better lately.

Yeah, I'd support that.
He's been a lot less trouble.

He's probably been busy.

Look, you can ask any of his teachers.
He's been a different kid in class.

He fixed Bill's car out of school house,
didn't he?

Really?

It was legit.

But he didn't actually supply any parts,
just labor.

If you don't mind, Bill,

I think we might just have a look
around this auto tech workshop of yours.

Sure.

How could you be so stupid?

With your record.

You must know the minute
you step out of line,

the police are gonna be right on to you.

-Now, who did you get it from?
-A guy in school.

-You don't know him.
-Con Bordino?

-No.
-He sells parts?

-He's a rip off artist.
-It was him, wasn't it?

I wouldn't go near that grub.

Well, I've seen you talking to him
a couple times lately.

He's interested in my gearbox.

Look, if it was him,
I'd dob him in, no probs.

In fact, I'd enjoy it.

I got it off a mate of my brother's.

Well, whoever you got it off,
you're a bloody fool, Rivers.

-Is that all?
-No, it's not all!

You just don't realize
what you've done, do you?

You have blown any chance
of an apprenticeship!

You've let the school down,
you let me down,

you let your mother down,
and you let yourself down.

Now get out of my sight!

I'm sorry. Guess who.
-What are you doing?

You made me spill my drink.

Hey, I was just trying
to surprise you.

-What's up?
-What?

Well, you've been acting
really strange lately.

Are you seeing someone else?

No.

Well, you've been acting like
you have been.

How can you say something like that?

Well, you've been really strange.

Avoiding me and then being really full-on
the next time I see you.

And when I asked you just then
you looked really guilty.

-Because I didn't know what to say.
-Because it's true?

No, because I wasn't expecting you
to come out with that.

What, you really didn't think that,
did you?

I have been.

Well, you know, I--
I've been trying a bit hard lately

because I-I thought
you were acting pretty weird.

Me?

Well, there have been times
where I felt like

you didn't even want to know me, and all.

I'm sorry.

I have been ignoring you lately,
haven't I?

Not really.

Well, I'll stop ignoring you, I swear.

Hey, Rivers. Peter.

Look, I just heard what happened
with the-- with the auto squad.

-I had no idea, all right?
-So you're telling me

you didn't know the parts
were hot, right?

No, no, no, no, no.
I just wasn't sure, that's all.

Peter, look,
I just want to talk to you, all right?

We need to talk.

Hey, wait, Rivers. I'm--

Guys, you wanna go down to Ruby's,
have a cup of coffee, play a game of pool?

No way.

Just a cup of coffee, man.
Hang for a while.

Hey, we want to spend some time alone.

He needs a lot of attention.

Hey, listen, come around later
if you want, okay?

Yeah, all right.

Sir?

Do you know anything about these
stolen car parts Rivers was arrested for?

Yeah. Yeah. I heard about that, sir.

It's terrible.

Did he buy them from you?

No, no. Me? No way.
Me and Rivers?

I hope not because I'd hate to think

that you were letting him
take the rap for this.

No, no, no, no.
Sir, you've got it wrong, man.

I wouldn't do something like that, no.
No way.

This is the end of the line for Rivers.
He's got no chances left.

If you are involved,

I'd suggest you think
long and hard about it.

Yes, sir.

Hello?

Wozza.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, well…

Yeah, I was just going home. Yeah.

Wozza.

-Con.
-Hey, man, what's up?

I was hoping you could tell me.

Nothing much, you know.

I hear the auto squad's
been sniffing around at school.

Listen, you know, about those parts,
were they all hot, or…

What do you think?

Well, I think, you know,
you never really say if they're hot.

Then I won't.

What you don't know
can't be held against you, mate.

I just wanna make sure you're not thinking
of doing anything stupid.

Nah. Me? Wozza?
Me doing something stupid?

Like, giving yourself up
for that Alan Rivers kid, what's his name?

Peter.

You know about that, do you?

Yeah. I know about that.

See, mate, you're young
and inexperienced.

-You've never been in strife.
-Yeah.

Now, if you were to give yourself up,

well, the cops would start asking you
some pretty tricky questions.

Now, if you're not used
to that sort of thing,

you can find you're saying
a lot more you intended to.

-Yeah.
-All right?

Now, you're young…

got no record.

You tell the cops
where you got your parts from

and you'd probably get off
with a bond, no problem.

I, on the other hand,
would be up to my neck in it.

And I don't need that right now. Capiche?

Capiche, man. Relax.

You're gonna wreck the sidies, mate.

You're a tough little bloke.

All right, all right, all right.

Yeah?

Do you remember me?

Could hardly bloody forget you, could I?

Do you realize what you've done to my son?

Yeah. That's-- that's what I'm here for.

I should hate your guts, you know.

But I don't.

Saw you that night and I thought,

"There's something about this kid.
He's all right."

Look, is Peter here now?

No. He's down the shops.
Do you wanna come in and wait?

No. No, it'll be all right, thanks. Ta.

-Hey, hey.
-What?

-Do you mind if I give you some advice?
-What?

It's not worth it. Get out of it now.

It's probably too late for Peter.

Too late for what?

To make something of your life.

What do you want?

I just wanted to know,
is there anything I can do?

Gonna put yourself in,
are you, mate?

-No.
-No. I didn't think so.

So what, you come around to make sure
I'm not gonna put you in?

-Is that it?
-No. No, mate.

- Listen--
-What then?

Make yourself feel better?
That's even worse.

Look, you're just as much to blame
as he is.

Look, all right, I might have known
the parts were hot.

But at least I'm gonna cop it sweet
like a man,

not go crawling around my knees
asking for forgiveness.

I've come say I'm sorry.
I've said it and that's it.

Wait a minute. You come here.

You think you can come around
and say you're sorry,

that's gonna make everything all right?

Well, it doesn't, mate. It doesn't.

I always said you're a gutless little wog
and I was right.

Are you gonna help with dinner
or just take the credit later on?

I'll just take the credit later on.

Typical.

Here. Make yourself useful.

Don't tell me what to do.

Hello.

-Hey, man.
-Here he is.

-The man on everyone's lips.
-What?

You and Rivers
everyone's talking about it.

Yeah, some year eight kids were
telling me and Jodie about it

on the way home from school.

Said that,  Southgate was
telling him off or something.

Well, is it true?
Did Rivers take the rap for you?

Well, what are you gonna do?

What do you mean,
what am I gonna do?

You're just gonna let him wear it?

Look, that's what he wants, okay?
-He said that.

The guy is just a total reject, all right?

-I don't wanna know about it.
-He's got a record.

-He'll go away for sure.
-Look, he knows that.

You know what he's like.

He's into all that macho

keep your mouth shut
and your feelings to yourself.

What am I supposed to do?

What am I supposed to do,
you tell me?

Tell the cops he didn't do it.
-Yes.

Now, why didn't I think about that?

See, now, you-- you're a legend.

You got a brain of a legend.

You won't get locked up, but he will.
For something he didn't do.

Look, he doesn't even wanna know
about me doing anything.

Crap.

What are you so concerned
about Rivers for?

I just reckon
he's getting the raw end of it.

What do you think?

Well, I suppose it is pretty hard on him.

What?

No. But he deserves it.

I reckon you're chickening out
and everyone's gonna say it.

Well, you know what I reckon?

You can always tell when your friends
are gonna backstab you.

-But you guys, I give you the--
-Hey, hey, hey. Just wait a second.

-She didn't mean it like that.
-Yes, I did.

Good one. Oi, Con!

Yeah? Hang on.

Nick, it's for you. It's Danielle.

Hello?

I've got to see you.

I don't think that it's such a good idea.

I-I don't know what to do.

Nick, I need you.

Okay.

Okay, um, I'll talk to you later then.

Nick, we have to talk.

I can't stop what I feel.

It's driving me insane.

-I feel really bad about Steve, Danni.
-And Jodie.

Well, I think it's gonna look pretty suss
if we try to avoid each other, don't you?

I don't think I could anyway.

-I don't know.
-What?

I just-- I don't know what to do,
you know.

Look, maybe this wasn't
such a good idea.

No. No, I wanna see you, you know.

I came down here
'cause I wanted to talk to you.

-Yeah, me too.
-Well…

So I guess we should just do
the best we can

without things getting out of hand.

Yeah.

I can't hang around for too much longer.
I have to get home for dinner.

So, thanks.

Okay.

So, um, what's this stuff
about Con and Rivers, mate?

He must feel pretty bad.

You know, he didn't say a word
on the way to school this morning.

-How's it going?
-Hey. Really good.

-Really good.
-Hi, Steve.

Hi.

Bordino. Hey, Con.

Cops came round
to my house this morning,

said they were dropping charges.
What's the go?

Yeah, well, let's just say,
I put myself in, right?

I told them you didn't know nothing
about those parts, okay?

Hope you're not expecting
thanks for it, mate.

Did I say I was?

It's what you should have done
in the first place.

-Hey, is that true?
-Yeah.

You serious?

I just said I was, all right?

Listen, I'm telling you,
it's gonna be okay.

Yeah, yeah, right.

You know, I get done
for stolen goods every day.

All right. Face it.

The worst they can do is fine you.

And maybe put you on bond, all right?

-That's not what I'm worried about.
-Well, what?

Well, they started asking me
all these questions

about where I got these parts from and…

-Well, you didn't tell them, did you?
-No, no.

They start asking about all these names

and ask me to deny their involvement…

And?

No. I didn't say anything.

Man.

I just-- I just got so confused.

They've got nothing on you man.
They can't get you. You understand?

Trust me. I'm telling you.
-Yeah.

You know, I'm gonna grab some coffee,
you want some?

Yeah.

-Hey, Ruby.
-Hello, darl.

Where's your little girlfriend then?

Don't tell me
she's ditched you already.

Actually, she had some homework to do.

-Just two coffees, thanks.
-Sure.

Are you paying for these?

Good.

That's him.

Hey, man.
Hey! Take it easy, man!

Let me explain, man.

Hey, wait a minute. That'll be $3.

You know, you're like a little dog,

and little dogs got to be taught a lesson
when they get under your feet.

Take it easy, Wozza, man.

Now because of you,
I'm gonna have to lay low for a while.

Wait a minute, mate.
I'll hold him for you.

I told you, didn't I?

Oi!

What are you doing?

Get him.

Now, kid. What did I tell you?

Hey.

Hey. Hey!

Come on.

Get in.
-Watch it, you mongrel.

I'll get you.

I'm not done.

I'm not done.

Thanks, Rivers.

-Yeah, man.
-You all right?

Yeah.

I guess that makes us even then.

Mate. I'm getting too old for this.

Yeah?
-Yeah, mate.

It's not worth the aggro.
No way, mate.

What, you mean to tell me
you're going out of business?

No. Let's just say I'll be off
for about two weeks, all right?

-Come on, let's go.
-Yeah. Let's go to Ruby's.

The moon came up

The sun went down

Somebody said you were back in town

I kept my mouth shut
And waited for the sound

Of your footsteps on the stair

I knew you'd be around

The circumstances were too good
To be true

All roads lead to Rome

But mine all led to you

Standing in the backyard
Sniffing at the sky

How could it be?
I had to wonder why

It's so easy

You made it so easy for me

You made it so easy

You made it so easy for me, yeah

I see you in the street

Alone with yourself

Crawling my way like a crab on a shelf

I could still read the secrets
In the back of your mind

Coming back to haunt
The places you left behind

Looking for excuses
Searching all around
