Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks (2014–…): Season 2, Episode 2 - Bannack Ghost Town and Thornhaven Manor - full transcript

Zak invites an investigator and his family from the ghost town of Bannack, MT, to discuss how a paranormal obsession has turned into a family crisis. Then, Zak discovers a disturbing, skull-like anomaly in a photo taken at Thornha...

MAN: Glenn, help me!
It won't let me!

ZAK: The last several years,
we have explored many locations.

We have met
hundreds of people...

MAN: What you do
is so valuable.

...many who have been deeply
affected by our investigations.

And it was
no disrespect to you

that I decided to talk to you
off-camera.

Yeah, I-I had
a problem with that.
You did.

Are these dark spirits
still plaguing these places...

No!

...and harming these people?

Do you now think that
Zozo is inside of you?

It's time to find out.

This is "Ghost Adventures:
Aftershocks."

In 2014, we investigated
the home of Darren Evans

in Oklahoma City.

While we were there,
we met Darren's wife, Kathleen,

but the most important
introduction that Darren made

was to a demon named Zozo.

Darren,
can you say its name?

Zozo.

Since then, his life
has changed dramatically,

and he's here
to talk with us today.

Oh, wow, man.

So, this is probably
the freshest follow-up,

most recent follow-up
we've ever had on this show.

Usually we wait years.

This is one of the most
controversial investigations

that we've ever done,
as well.

This is a real demon.

There's a lot
of questions from me,

a lot of questions from our
viewers that I want to ask you.

Sure.

You know, we decided
to really go deep on this

and call out a demon.

Yeah.

By its name.

Throughout history,

many cultures have been plagued
by versions of the Zozo demon.

In the last decade,

there have been multiple reports
of spirit boards

spelling out the name "Zozo."

Z-O-Z-O-Z-O, back and forth.

The entity that is summoned

can inflict severe physical
and psychological damage.

Is it a dangerous thing
to use a demon's name?

I think with the wrong intent,
it can be, you know.

I usually refer to it
as Mr. Z

'cause I don't really like
to say the name.

However it comes out...

I don't like -- I won't --
I don't like to say it.

Yeah.

That night
that the episode aired,

I want you to share
with everybody watching
this right now

what historical moment took
place on Twitter that night.

For the first time,

a demonic name was
actually trending,

you know, on Twitter.
Right.

I've took
a lot of criticism.

They say, "Darren,
you've created a monster

by bringing forth your research
and telling the story

of other people that
have experienced it."

No, you've brought in
the reality

of what most people think
doesn't exist.

And you've brought in
this reality

by suffering the consequences
yourself, your family,

by connecting with something
that's biblical.

You were summoning Zozo,
weren't you?

There was a few times when,
yeah, I was trying

to get some information
from it to try to --

as part of my research in that
whole Zozo phenomena, yeah.

Do you think
that that's safe?

I understand.

Listen, I'm not here
to attack you,

but I'm gonna ask you
a question.

Do you think
trying to research a demon

by calling it out in your home
with your family,

using an Ouija board,

is the proper way
to research a demon,

knowing that your family
could have aftereffects?

It's definitely
not something

that I would recommend
anyone to do,

is to call out a demon,
even when you're researching

or anything like that,
because it's --

I've seen
some incredible stuff.

And that's why I continue
to warn people about that.

But when I met you, man,
I sensed something,

and I think that
you can conjure Zozo out

because I personally
think that --

I think Zozo's
a part of you.

Did Zozo possess you?

I think so.

I've had some really
bad things happen to me.

Bad things have happened to
people that have been around me

after getting
off the board.

It's real,
isn't it, Darren?

Oh, it's real.

But I think that
you've become so obsessed

with the research of this demon,
you've become obse--

You're a stalker
to a demon.

People have accused me of being
obsessed with the research,

and I would
agree with that.

I have to take breaks
because it just seems
like the farther I dig,

the more things
that I find.

When I found
historical evidence of it

is what
really disturbed me.

Kind of made me
feel better,

'cause I kind of realized
that I wasn't crazy.

So many other people have shared
their experiences with me,

And I never was trying
to publicize this Zozo entity

more than just,
you know, warn people

that weird
and harmful things

can happen psychologically
to people.

We all agreed
to go up there to a place

where you experienced
some traumatizing events.

And when I say
traumatizing events,

let's just watch
the reaction

of your now ex-wife,
Katie, correct?

Yeah.
Okay.

Let's watch
the reaction from her

when you
made the decision

that you are gonna go
back into this house

to call out Zozo.

Do you want him to do this
with us?

No, I don't.

I'm not comfortable
with that.

Those are some of the worst
memories of my life.

I really believe that

my husband was possessed
by this demon.

Our investigations
are not directed.

They're not produced.

We go right off the fly,

and we do this
for our own answers.

That's what's unique
about our show, about our lives,

is because we work with
third-party people like you,

that I've never met you
until we showed up.

I want to see
what you're talking about.

I want to see
if this [bleep] is real.

As soon as we entered the house
with Darren and Kathleen,

the energy in the building began
to make itself known.

What was that?

Sounded like
a footstep upstairs.

I don't understand,
like, what's going on.

Evil.
Whoa!

This [bleep] door just op--
Look, it's opening!

ZAK: It's as if the demon itself
remembered Darren --

maybe even missed him.

When we returned
for the lockdown the next night,

the energy inside the house
was already amplified,

and we had the chance to witness

the psychological damage this
entity is capable of firsthand.

After a bit,
Katie become uncomfortable.

She left the house.

She was like,
"Enough's enough."

[ Door shuts ]

When Katie returned...

she was obviously
very, very different.

When she was walking,
it looked like

she was even
having trouble walking, okay?

Let's watch this segment.

You all right?
Yeah.

Are you ready?

Is that
your belt undone?

Or what's going on
over there?

Oh.

Are you feeling okay?

Are you all right?
Yeah.

You didn't sound like yourself
when you walked in.

No, just --
Are you okay?

Oh, God.

Do you have shoes on?

I'm gonna puke.

We can't have
disruptions, baby.

No.
We just started getting
the rainbow effect

to "Z-O" to "Z-O."
Yeah, I know.

How do you know?

How do you know?

How do you know, Kate?

He told me.

What do you mean,
he told you?

Darren, let me ask you
a question.

Do you believe that
that investigation

ruined your marriage?

I don't think
it was just the episode.

I think it's because there were
some things going on

before as well as after,
you know.

I found out
she was using the board

and not telling me
about it,

and she had conversations
with this thing.

And you never knew that?

No, she -- she disclosed
that information to me...

...after the show.

And who was
she contacting?

Zozo every time, yes.

She was?
Yeah.

Can I ask you
a personal question?

Sure.

Was she having
a sexual relationship with Zozo?

Um, she had told me

that she had had
some encounters previously

before
that show aired, so --

Sexually?
Yes.

Mm.

See, this is where
it gets really deep,

to where a lot of viewers
just won't understand,

you know,
how deep this is.

So, we have to take
steps here with this.

This is powerful stuff.

Yeah.

Do you believe that
when she went outside,

that Zozo was doing
sexual things to her?

Because of what she was doing
with the board before,

and you feel that
she was having sexual --

She told me that something
happened outside sexually, yes.

He was very sexual.

Very sexual?
Yes.

He wanted to see my [bleep]

I think she believed
something happened,

and so I don't know for any type
of certainty that it did,

but I know that she believes
that it happened.

You know,
and I know she said that

she's had incidents in the past
from using the board.

And other people have told me
that this has happened.

Now, when she walked in,
the smell.

She smelled rotting flesh.
You smelled [bleep]

I smell it.
Something smells like [bleep]

Yup. Oh, my God.
I felt sick.

What were we
smelling there?

I have no idea,

and I know Kathleen doesn't
smell like that, you know.

I had never smelled
anything quite like that.

It was like
a sulfuric [bleep] smell.

I didn't smell that
on her before.

No.

Smells like
rotting flesh.

No, she's
a very clean person.

She would not put off
that type of foul odor.

Right, right.
There's no way.

I'm just asking all
the questions any skeptic would.

Sure.
Okay?

Are we speaking to Zozo?

Mama.

Zaza.

What did she just say
right there?

She said "Mama,"
and then "Zaza."

What does that mean?

A lot of people
that have Zozo encounters,

it's also common

for other entities
to show up in those sessions,

and two of those entities --
one of them is Zaza,

and one of them is
the strange "Mama" entity.

At this moment,

do you feel that it's safe
for your ex-wife,

who's now showing signs
of possession,

showing signs of sexual assault
by this demon --

Do you believe now
it is safe

that your ex-wife
is there?

I don't think
it was safe for her, no.

MAN: Darren,
can you say its name?

Zozo.

And now that you just said
the name of the demon,

do you now think that
that demon is inside of you?

That's been asked before,
you know,

and, you know, people have said
because it doesn't necessarily

affect me
psychologically anymore.

You, Darren, you have the power
to summons this demon.

I do.

I know you do.

And --

It's not something
I'm proud of, you know.
Right.

But I surround myself with
protection as much as I can,

but I'm also --
It told me years ago

that it would
never leave my sight

and, you know, it would
always be there.

And every time I touch
a planchette, it's there.

[ Crying ]

When we invited Katie to come
into this investigation,

you have guilt over that now,
don't you?

Sure. I do.

Why do you have guilt?

Katie, she couldn't --

She never has
really been able

to handle that
psychological oppression.

[ Crying ]
I'm going outside.

No. No.
[Bleep] this house.

So, what's up
with Katie now?

After this possession,

bad things
have happened to her now.

Where is she right now?
Why isn't she here?

She's incarcerated.

She's in jail.

She comes out
of her bedroom terrified

and says there's
some man in her room.

So, what's up
with Katie now?

After this possession,

bad things
have happened to her now.

Where is she right now?
Why isn't she here?

She's incarcerated.

She's in jail.

She's in jail looking at
a lengthy prison term.

And it's not something
I'm real comfortable
talking about at all.

But she's -- she has multiple
felonies for assault --

one on a police officer,
one on myself.

What?

She went off
the deep end.

It began probably
two weeks after the show aired

with her first arrest.

What is your stance on her
right now?

Do you think that she is
a victim for this behavior

by Zozo?

Do you feel that
this is just her?

She did tell me that
it said some things

similar to what
it used to tell me,

is that it was -- you know,
it was going to envelope her.

It spelled that
on the board.

And it's just to wonder
that she was showing
signs of a possession

two weeks before
she decided to be violent

with you
and a police officer.

Whether that has any influence
on her behavior, I don't know,

but it's still what I believe
worth mentioning.

ZAK: But Darren and Kathleen
aren't the only people

deeply affected by
their experiences in the house.

On that first night,
we also spoke to Tee Jay,

a repairman who sometimes
does work on the building.

Whether he could sense
the energy already present,

or he was only nervous,

he did something
that I've never seen before.

Certain evil spirits,
demons,

they may have certain
attachments to certain people,

the energy that's
inside of you.

Can we --
Can we skip this part?

Yeah.
Mm-kay.

You don't
want to hear that?

Probably not.

I think
you win the award

for most times
somebody has stopped me

during an interview.

I think it was
three times.

Can we skip this part?

We can skip that part,
probably.

Yeah.
Two or three times.

Weird [bleep]
loud noise happen --

Hey, Nick, Nick.
Okay, sorry.

And I understand
you're back here today.

You're a little
upset with me.

A little upset with you.
Yeah.

All right.
[ Laughs ]

Let me get prepared
for this.

Tee Jay,
why are you pissed?

I didn't know
what I was messing with.

I was uneducated.

Maybe instead of stopping you,
I should have listened.

I thought I knew
what you were gonna say.

I thought you were just
gonna tell me, you know --

I was just trying to be nice
and let you know

because I know that
this isn't just a little --

a dare, you know?

This wasn't a dramatic moment
for a TV show.

Right.

I was just trying to give you
all the details

of what happened
earlier that evening

because we brought back in there
Darren and his wife

into the house before you,
right before you.

Right.

You're fearful
of the house.

There's something about Darren
that I'm precautious about,

'cause I know that
he can summons Zo--

I'm not gonna say it.
Z-O-Z-O.

Right.

So, you came in there

right off the coattails
of what was going on.

Right. I just didn't want
you planting --

by anything you saying
planting a seed in my head.

Absolutely.

You could possibly feed
this activity in my mind,

so I may -- automatically,
my mind, my subconscious

may experience
what you're telling me.

That's why I did that.

Now, looking back --

if I could go back, I wouldn't
have been at that house.

So this had
a real effect on you.

No [bleep]
Yes. No [bleep]

What the hell happened?

[ Sighs ]

You remember
at that house...

Kind of had an interest
for myself, too.

You know, "Is it just me?
Am I just a chicken?

Am I an idiot, what?"
You know?

So, at this point, I've got
more interest than what I want.

And you had said possibly
something had attached to me.

Can we watch it
real quick

to refresh
everybody's minds?
Yeah.

Tee Jay is on the stairs
for a little over a minute

before he begins to feel that
he's not alone in this house.

[ Rustling ]

Oh [bleep]
What was that?

Did you just walk by me?

I felt air move across my face.

If it happens again,
I'll know it's you,

and I'll know that you don't
want me on your stairs.

Okay, I saw that.

What was that?

Okay.
I felt that.

Tee Jay,
is that the very first time

that you've been
in that house?

I know you've
been in there a lot.

Is that the first time
you've been in that house

where you've sat down
and took the time

to engage in personal
conversation with this entity?

Yes.
It is?

Yes.

I just always did a...
"You know, it's nothing."

You know, just ignore,

but I felt like
there was something.

What did you see,
Tee Jay?

Like shadows moving, but it was
out of the corner of my eye,

so that's when
I looked up at the light

to see if there was any bugs
flying around the light.

And there wasn't.

You know,
I don't know what I saw,

but there was something
back there.

So, after you left the house
that night --

[ Sighs ]

All right.

After we left the house,
went home.

We were sitting there
watching TV...

...and I've got
that same feeling,

you know, just something,
somebody behind me.

So I'm like, you know,
"I'm just gonna ignore it."

"It's all in my head."

You know, tried that game.
That didn't work.

"I'll just holler at Makayla,"
my daughter.

"She's in her bedroom.
I'll just holler at her.

If there's something there,
she'll see it, you know."

What people don't know is
that Makayla was there also,

and we interviewed her.

It just didn't make it
in the episode.

Right.

She comes out
of her bedroom terrified

and says there's
some man in her room.

Makayla says this?

Yes.

I know you don't
know Makayla like I do.

She was terrified.

She's, like,
bawling, terrified.

You know, we just
jumped in the truck

to get out of the house,
you know?

Man, in the truck ride
over there,

I could feel things
grabbing my legs in my truck.

So, yeah, you scared the hell
out of me.

And then you...

you felt like
something was bothering you,

so you went and seen
those three ladies.

Close your eyes, relax.

That night, I had violent,
terrifying nightmares

of me killing people,

and I remember that, throughout
that night, I would wake up,

and I couldn't get Z-O-Z-O
out of my head.

It's like when --
Have you ever gone to sleep,

and you have a song
stuck in your head?

And you just cannot
get it out of your mind?

It's driving you crazy?

Like,
that's how bad it was.

I just couldn't --
I was literally shaking my head.

I could not get it
out of my mind.

I could hear it
just nonstop.

I had "Z-O-Z-O"
stuck in my head.

And when I woke up, I knew that
I was affected by this.

Z-O-Z-O.

And so before
I continued on anymore,

I wanted to go get
a spiritual cleansing.

That was not planned.

The negative energy
will go now.

Or it will have
to contend with me.

Okay, it is done.

So, did the thought
ever cross your mind,

"Maybe Tee Jay
might need one, too"?

Well...

It said it was gonna
take my daughter's soul.

We were quarantined
in this hospital for 14 days.

When I woke up,

I knew that I was affected
by this Z-O-Z-O.

And so before
I continued on anymore,

I wanted to go get
a spiritual cleansing.

That was not planned.

So, did the thought
ever cross your mind,

"Maybe Tee Jay
might need one, too"?

Well...

It's a fair question.

No, I know. I know.

'Cause you're the expert,
not me.

I know,
but I never knew

that you went through things
when you got home.

I thought, you know, you were
in there for a limited time.

You've been going to
that house for a long time.

You know,
you went in there really quick.

It was only
a good 10 minutes in there.

And I thought you were done
after that.

You know what I mean?

I didn't know -- If you would
have called me and said,

"Hey, Zak, look,
you know, after that night,

some bad things
happened to me."

If I would have known
that you had an attachment,

yeah, I would have helped you
and got you a cleansing.

ZAK: Demons target us
where we are most vulnerable,

creating conflict
with loved ones

and threatening their safety.

When it said it was gonna give
my daughter an iron tongue

and we had to take her
to the hospital.

On the board?

Yes, it said it was gonna take
my daughter's soul.

And it said
it was going to give her --

I remember it
spelling it all out.

It's going to give her
an iron tongue.
Mm-hmm.

She almost died in the bath tub
later that night.

Oh, my God.

And then we had to take her
to the hospital,

and we were quarantined
in this hospital for 14 days,

and she developed MRSA,

and it caused her tongue to
grotesquely hanging off --

I knew then.

I can't believe how
you would want to re-ignite this

after experiencing
something like this

that was so close to you --

your daughter almost dying
that night.

What would incline a father
to want to go back after that

and keep messing
with this thing, keep poking it?

I still continue
to research

and actually speak to
a lot of people

that contact me, you know,
through the website.

And I try to help
these people overcome,

and in all honesty,
I don't really know how to.

Exactly.

It might be too late
for Kathleen and Darren

to remove themselves completely

from the influence
of this demon,

but there is still help
for Tee Jay.

I have to help
him and his family.

I don't know
what to do.

Yeah.
I know I want to be
done with it.

Are you still -- Do you still
think you're affected by it?

It's not --

It seems to be bothering Makayla
more than me now.

Makayla.
Yes.

Really?
Yes.

Oh, boy.

If Tee Jay's daughter,
Makayla,

is being affected by this demon,

then things are far worse
than I knew.

I'm seriously worried about
her safety,

and I need to hear
her perspective

on these troubling events.

Does that house
scare you?

Yes.

Like, I don't like
talking about it, honestly.

The house?

Any of it.

It scares you.

Are you gonna be okay
to talk about it?

Yeah.

All right.

I don't want to make you
uncomfortable.

It's all right.

Okay.

Your dad's really terrified
of that place, you know.

And all I want to do is
I want to talk with you

to just better educate some
people about it, all right?

Yeah, that's fine.

I know it's scary.
Yes.

Trust me, I've been through it,
you know.
Yeah.

But the most important part
of it

is that we have to stay
really strong

so that whatever is there
and that's making us scared,

we show them
that we're braver than them.

How can I fight
what I can't see?

I don't know
what this thing's capable of.

I couldn't breathe.
Like, I felt nothing.

ZAK: I've been speaking to
Tee Jay Marshall

about the demon
that has been tormenting

both him and his daughter.

How can I fight
what I can't see?

I'll be at work.

She gets home,
she calls me terrified.

You know, sometimes
she won't even go in the house.

I don't know
what this thing's capable of.

I really don't.

So, I want you to go
at your own pace here, okay?

And tell me
what you feel is comfortable

for you to talk about.
Okay.

Okay?
Okay.

The night when we came home
from the interview...

...my dad says he feels
someone standing behind him,

and I start crying
because I was laying on my bed,

and someone's standing over me
and has their hand right here.

And I see, like, a man walking
back and forth in my room.

And he was putting his hands
on your chest?

He had his hand
right here.

I was laying on my bed,
getting ready for bed.

And you couldn't
breathe?

I couldn't breathe.
Like, I felt nothing.

So I ran in there to my dad,
and we left the house.

And my dad was crying,
also.

Your dad was crying?

He was crying.
He was scared, also.

Have you ever seen your dad
this freaked out before?

No.

Have you seen
your dad cry before?

No, my dad never cries.

And he cried
that night?

His eyes
were tearing up.

When he came out of here
and was talking to me,

his eyes were tearing up.

Out of here,
after I interviewed him?

Mm-hmm.

Okay.
Are you guys okay now?

Do you guys want
any help?

We do want help, yes.

What kind of help
would you like?

He just wants it gone.

Okay.

Whatever it is, gone.

All right, well, before
you guys leave here today,

I'm gonna have it arranged
to get somebody to your house

and try to get
this entity gone

so you don't have to cry
anymore over this.

I arrange for the woman

who performed a ritual cleansing
on me, Lisa Ghariani...

The negative energy
will go now.

...to do the same
for Tee Jay and Makayla.

Do you think -- feel it's like
an attachment around you?

I think so.
Okay.

I entered into something
that I was ignorant to,

and I want out.

That's why we're here,
okay?

She uses sage and smoke

to remove the negative energy
from the home...

If there is a dark entity
that has been in this room,

you will go, you will
not be allowed to return.

...while blessing its occupants
with words and rituals.

If there is something that has
somehow attached itself to me...

It'll be gone.

Okay.

If I feel any doubt,
I will let you know.

Okay.

Deal?
Deal.

As soon as
the cleansing is finished,

both Tee Jay and Makayla are
overwhelmed by strong emotions,

suggesting that
whatever negative force

had its hold on them
has finally been removed...

May this home be protected
with light, pure light.

...unleashing
a wave of feelings.

[ Sniffles ]

I'm so grateful
to be able to help this family

move past this dark period
in their lives.

[ Sniffles ]

Katie's Bar
on Long Island, New York,

is another location
that I wanted to revisit

because of the emotional impact
I feel it has

on the people working there.

In particular,
I have been worried about

the bar's owner,
Brian Karppinen,

who has agreed
to speak with us today.

ZAK: Hi, Brian.

What's up, buddy?
How you doing?

How you doing, man?
Good to see you again.

You too, man.

So, Brian, Katie's Bar.
Oh, man, it's ironic.

We were just talking about
a girl, Katie,

that was possessed.

Coincidence.

Despite asking us
to come help him,

Brian has been evasive ever
since our first investigation,

often denying
the potentially serious dangers

of his haunted location.

So,
you own Katie's Bar.

I do.

Just wanted to check back
with you

because this case
was so personal.

We feel that
it was affecting you personally.

I was called to that bar.

You know, something told me
to go there.

I remember
like it was yesterday.

You know,
"Go see your friend at the bar.

He's having a hard time."

And I did,
and I ended up taking it.

You know, he basically
gave it to me

'cause he couldn't make
it happen.

And what's interesting
about this bar,

if people really want
to get a grasp

about the severity and the power
of the spirits at this bar...

...this was one of
the most impressive cases

of poltergeist activity
that I've ever seen.

That glass hit her leg
so hard,

I could see her leg
actually move from the impact.

"Hey,
this is a liability.

One of my bartenders
is gonna get seriously injured."

What's interesting
about this bar --

this was one of
the most impressive cases

of poltergeist activity
that I've ever seen

because your place
is known for glasses and bottles

literally flying off
their racks and their shelves.

Let's just show everybody
a clip of this.

Was it you in the video
that got hit with the glass?

I did get hit
with a glass.

In your leg?

Yes, I remember just tending bar
and getting people's drinks,

and then suddenly
I felt something,

and I almost felt like there
was a swoosh kind of behind me

or a feeling behind me,

and then I felt
the actual impact of the glass.

That glass
hit her leg so hard,

I could see her leg
actually move from the impact.

When does the issue pop up
where it's,

like, "Hey,
this is a liability.

One of my bartenders
is gonna get seriously injured

if a bottle or glass
hits them in the face

or hits them in the head,
causes serious damage"?

You know,
when I first met you,

my job as an investigator
is to see whether or not

this person is being affected
by a negative spirit

and whether or not
this person's behaviors

are going to do some bad things
to other people

because of
this state of oppression.

And it was no disrespect
to you at all

that I decided to talk to you
off-camera.

ZAK: Hey, Brian?

While I was
still rolling the cameras?

Yeah, I-I had
a problem with that.

You did?

You said, you know, genuinely,
I thought you said,

"Brian, I think you're tortured,
and you're in denial."

Mm-hmm.

I'm just being real blunt
with you, is that --

You seem, like,
in denial sometimes, though.

Has anybody, like, ever fell
into, like, oppression?

Well,
that would be me.

Do I have
a poltergeist?

I don't know,
but no disrespect again,

but when I signed on
with you,

I really wanted help
to know what the hell I had.

Mm-hmm.
I don't care so much
about the TV.

If there is something
down there that's dark,

I want to know
what the hell it is.

I don't think anybody can
give you a definitive answer.
Okay.

We can help you.
Right.

You know, We can tell you
and show you

that we captured evidence
so that --

I have evidence
until the cows come home.

I don't even save it
anymore.

Yeah.

I -- You know,
it was just a misunderstanding.

Right.
Yeah.

So,
what did you want?

I wanted your take

on what you thought
was downstairs

or, you know, what I had
going on there.

Mm-hmm.

That's what I wanted your take,
maybe an expert take.

I'm not an expert.

I'm just an old mechanic
that owns a bar.

There are no such things
as experts.

Everybody
can use their imagination

and tell you exactly who it is,
how old they are,

what their breath smells like,
are they a demon?

And they could be lying,
right?

Exactly.
You don't know.

Yeah.
Okay?

What I do is,
is I don't come out

and tell you things that are
going to affect your life,

affect your future and
say something that I don't know.

I'm not gonna come out
and lie to you and say,

"Look, dude,
you got a demon there.

You need to
get out of there."

'Cause what's that gonna do?
You're gonna sell your business.

You're gonna make
all the people that work for you

get out of their work.

It's gonna affect
your life.

I don't want to hurt them,
of course.

So just like my last guests
who were in tears

because of a spirit,
we're finding a specialist

that I know of that's gonna
go with them

back to their house

and cleanse their house
for them.
Okay.

That's what
I'm doing for them.

So, what I want to do is hear
what's been going on since.

Okay.

And if I feel from
what you're telling me,

that you've had some bad things
happening to you,

which I'm assuming you have,
then I do want to help.

Meagan Flaherty
has worked at Katie's Bar

off and on for 10 years,

which puts her in a unique
position to offer insight

into the way
the atmosphere in the bar

has changed for the worse
during that time.

After you left,
things felt very dark.

More and more people
getting angry,

more and more
bar fights happening

for no good reason.

People who were
perfectly fine

that have always been
perfectly fine

would come in and
were just fighting each other

for no reason.

Did Brian ever tell you
that he thinks it was my fault

or something for stirring
things up after I left?

No, he was upset,
though,

because he felt like
he was asking for help,

and he didn't receive it.

That was
a big thing for him.

Part of the reason that he's
agreed to do any of the shows

is the idea that maybe we can
get some sort of help with it.

Right, right, right.

There's this dark thing
that's been seen, you know,

and that's kind of scary.

I don't know
if it's a protector.

I don't know
if it's something dark.

I have no idea what it is,
but many people have seen it.

Not too long after you left,
I was in my bed,

and a figure, you know, kind of
floated by the end of my bed.

It was gigantic, 7-feet tall,
dark gray tattered clothes.

It didn't look at me.
It just floated by.

And it just went
right through my room,

but in where
my mom lives.

I take care of
my elderly mother,

so I was afraid.

And I ran in there,
and she's fine.

She's still fine,

but I don't know
what the hell that thing was,

and I didn't tell anybody

because I don't tend to tell
everybody everything.

I like to see
if it happens again.

And as it turns out,

Brian isn't the only person
to make contact

with this mysterious,
cloaked figure,

which has been seen by
at least two other witnesses.

I saw what I initially thought
was Brian.

And I thought in my head,
you know, like,

Brian looked a little bit taller
than usual.

And then I heard Brian's voice
on the other side of the bar.

My mother, actually,
saw a dark shadow,

and she felt compelled
to pray for me.

I was just on her mind
a lot.

One of my bartenders
came up to me and said,

"What the hell, man?

There's this thing
standing behind the bar."

And I said,
"What does it look like?"

She said,
"It was gigantic."

That's when
he told me about

actually what
he had seen at his house.

So, that's when
your stories connected.

Yeah, yeah, he seemed to have,
like, this flash of,

like, "Oh,"
you know, when I --

Like he knew
what you were talking about.

Sort of, yeah.

Brian, do you think you have
an attachment?

Yeah, you know,
I'm like a magnet.

Again,
I'm not an expert.

You think
I stirred things up?

Yeah, I think that you
did stir things up a bit.

We already had
a bad, heavy feeling,

and when you left,
it was worse.

Right.

I will offer to have somebody
go back with you

to your bar and do
a cleansing on you personally.

Whenever you get rid of
something,

you want to replace it
with something else.

ZAK: I've been speaking
to Brian Karppinen

about the dark entity
that haunts his bar.

So, do you want to just
leave it how it is now

instead of trying to,
you know, poke at it

or mess up any kind of energy
that we have going on right now?

You know, I'm on the fence
with this dark thing.

Are people still being affected
at your bar,

negatively to this day?

It's kind of been almost --

[ Sighs ]

I-I could say,
it couldn't hurt.

And if you have something that
you can offer, I will take it.

Okay. If you're asking,
then I'll provide it.
Yes.

I'll set it up.
Yeah, great.

And I'll send them back
to take care of this

after this interview.
Thank you.

When you go back,
I'll set it all up.
Thank you.

I think it was important
for you to come here

and me and you
sit face-to-face...
Absolutely.

...and resolve anything
and clarify anything.

Because there's one thing
that I want to do

is not just go there
to do the investigation

for my TV show,
but I want to help the people.

Absolutely.

So, I will offer to have
somebody go back with you

to your bar and do
a cleansing on you personally.

Thank you.
And I'll set it all up.

Thanks.
Okay?

That's awesome, man.
It's good
to see you again, man.

Thank you so much.
Okay,
take care of yourself.

All right,
take care, man.
All right.

Just as I did
for Tee Jay and Makayla,

I arranged for Khi Armand,
a gifted shamanic healer

to perform a cleansing
at Katie's Bar.

There's a lot
going on here,

and I know
that there's a lot

that's been affecting
your life, as well.

But instead of focusing
on the building itself,

I'm more concerned with Brian
and the negative energies

that seem to have latched
onto him...

...manifesting in a being

that has been seen by
more than one witness.

Simply, the intention
of being willing to let go

of that which might be
holding you

in this rather
uncomfortable space.

May you be protected from
all harm and all negativity.

Your life path
be protected.

Whatever dark force
has been troubling

the patrons of this bar
keep coming back,

and I think it's been drawn here
by Brian himself.

Whenever we get rid of
something,

we want to replace it
with something else.

I hope that this helps him find
the closure he's looking for

so that he can release
the attachments

between him
and this dark energy.

For us, the investigation
and the evidence

aren't the real reasons
that we do this.

I wanted to check back
with you

because this case
was so personal.

It isn't about the publicity
or a TV show.

[ Sighs ]

It's because of people
who are deeply affected

by the darkness
they come into contact with.

She's incarcerated.
What?

We don't have all the answers,
and we can't help everyone.

I don't think anybody can
give you a definitive answer.

But there are good days, too,

when we know we have made
a profound difference

in someone's life.

Those days are why we do this,
and they're why we can't stop.

You don't have to cry
anymore over this.
