Hyakkimaru and Dororo camped at a
border known as the banmon.

There, they were attacked
by a nine-tailed fox.

However, as the dawn came,

the fox vanished,

and they met a certain man.

That man was the one who,

in exchange for advancement,

had offered his own son,
Hyakkimaru, up to demons.

He was Daigo Kagemitsu.

Kagemitsu was shocked
to see Hyakkimaru's body.

Learning it was his own son,

who he'd cast into
the river 20 years prior,

he hurriedly withdrew.

Then, entering the town
ruled by Kagemitsu,

Hyakkimaru and Dororo
were mistaken for spies.

Dororo was taken for a thief,
beaten harshly, and thrown into the river.

Hyakkimaru, without knowing the
man he met was his own kin,

was taken to Kagemitsu's manor
by his younger brother Tahoumaru.

At the manor, having caught
a glimpse of Hyakkimaru,

without any way to know that
he was, in fact, her son,

something of him caught
his mother's heart.

Meanwhile, outside the room
Hyakkimaru was taken to,

the fox appeared once more.

The Scroll of the Banmon
Part Two

You are lurking around here too?

Don't keep me waiting. Come in!

Oh, no!

What is it?

Have you gone quite mad?
Swinging around your blade like that.

Boy, you showed impressive
skills by the banmon today.

Tell me where you learned them.

You cripple! Are you mute as well?

Enough, Tahoumaru.

By the way, Hyakkimaru was it?
Where have you come from?

Where are your parents?

I have no parents.

When I was a child,
they cast me away.

Even if they are still around,
they're not parents of mine.

A cripple and an orphan?

Tahoumaru!

I told you to be quiet.

Tell me what's happened to
you since you were abandoned.

I shall not.

There's no reason for me to
talk to you both about it.

What?

I've no desire to engage in such
dull conversation. Please excuse me.

Why you!!

I'd like to get some sleep, you see.

If you won't let me sleep,
I'll leave on my own.

You!

Let him rest, Tahoumaru.

Curse it.

Hyakkimaru.

Would you consider serving
under my master, Lord Togashi?

This is the most important fortress
in the Togashi lands and I guard it.

That banmon is our border.

On the other side of that border
is Asakura territory.

When the time comes, I would
have you fight against them.

What say you?

I refuse.

I say this because I would not wish
for skills of your calibre go to waste.

Is that all you have to say?

Take your leave. I'll have
no part in your wars.

Consider it.

Father!

He was out of order!

He did not show us due
respect as samurai!

Calm down. Your conduct is unbefitting
a samurai general's son.

I have no doubt that
man is an Asakura spy!

I'll cut him to pieces!

I've told you not to.

If he is to be killed,
I shall give the order.

Leave him be until then.

Understood?

You have too much youthful vigour.

When he awakens, give him food.

Father!

This is hopeless.
I can't seem to calm down at all.

It's strange.

Did it start when I came to this manor?

No, was it when I met Daigo?

It's strange.

I have an extremely nostalgic feeling.

What is this?

I don't understand!

This scent. What is it?

You've shown your true colours
at last, Asakura spy.

I thought you were suspicious.
This confirms it.

Wait, you!

Blast!

An intruder!

Kill him!

Intruder!

Don't let him get away!

After him!

Intruder!

Curse it, where did he go?

Listen here, if you let him escape,
you'll answer to me!

Yes, sir!

Halt!

Intruder!

Intruder! After him!

Go!

Where is he?

Come in!

Intruder!
Come in!

Intruder!

Hurry!

Where'd he go?
Hurry!

There's an intruder!

Intruder!

Be on your guard!

Intruder!

There's an intruder!

It's an intruder!

Don't let him get away!

Be on your guard!
There's an intruder!

Hm? What is it?

We lost sight of him around here.

What? This is Mother's room.

- Oh, no!
- What is the matter, Tahoumaru?

There seems to be quite
the commotion out there.

Mother.

Has an intruder passed through here?

No. No one has.

Tahoumaru!

Mother.

There is an Asakura spy about.

Be very careful.

My boy...

That boy is...

That boy is...

That boy is...

He is definitely mine.

That boy is!

I don't know you!

I don't know you! I don't know you!!

I have no birth parents!

Curse it! Curse it all!

I have no mother!

I can't have a mother!

She can't be my mother!

Curse it!

Mother...

If I had a mother...

Would she have discarded me?

She never would have!

There's a reason for that.

Are you an outsider?

Is one treated so badly
for being an outsider here?

Yes, they must've thought you
came from the neighbouring land.

We're in the middle of a war, you know.

So you'll eat anything? I like you.

Yes.

That was in the rubbish,
crawling with maggots.

I'm Sukeroku. You?

I'm Dororo.

Dororo?

What a weird name.

What?

What's with this dog?

Hey boy, where did you go?

Do you know it?

Yes, this dog always follows us.

It's your companion?

Companion? Yes, I suppose.

Having someone with you is nice,
even if it's just a dog.

Being lonely is tough.

I've been all alone for so long.

Are you an an urchin?
I thought you stunk!

You're an urchin yourself!

I'm not an urchin.

I have a proper mother and father!

It's just...

They're on the other side of the banmon.

I can't go home.

Why not?

Take a good look, Dororo.

Everything past there is Asakura land.

This is Togashi land.

That's the border.

This used to be one town.

But it happened to be
right on the border,

so when a war broke out
between here and there,

the town was split in two.

Now, we're split into
enemies and allies.

We used to live in peace,

but now the North and South
hate each other enough to kill.

I'm pretty sure it's the war
that's made them all like this.

War? That's so petty.

When it has nothing to
do with us. Honestly.

My house was here.

On the day the war broke out,
I'd come to the south side to play.

My house is here on the north side.

This is where I went to fish.

This river. Where we are now.

Can you catch them, Sukeroku?

What's going on?

I wonder.

Ah! It's a battle!

As of now, everyone on the other
side of this fence is an enemy!

Do not allow them to enter
under any circumstances!

Anyone who crosses this fence without
permission will be executed! Understood?

What?

Please, let me go to the other side!

Sukeroku!

Sukeroku!

Come this way.

Sukeroku!

Hurry, come this way! Quick!

Sukeroku!

Come on!

Sukeroku, over here!

Sukeroku!

Sukeroku!

Mother! Father!

Let the boy through, please.

Mother!

Father!

- Grab on!
- Mother! Father!

Stop! That hurts!

No! Let me go! Let me go!

Let me go! I said, let me go!

Stop it!

- No! No!
- Would you quieten down!

Come over here!

I said let go!

Sukeroku!

Sukeroku!

Sukeroku!

Come over here!

Sukeroku!

What are you doing?

Hurry and close that gap!

Mother! Father!

Sukeroku!

Sukeroku!

Come along!

Please!

Mother! Father!

Sukeroku!

Sukeroku!

No! No!

Mother! Father!

Why can't I go over there?

Mother! Father!

Sukeroku!

That's how my town was split in two.

My family as well.

Father and Mother are on the
other side of that fence.

Since then, there have been some
really intense battles there.

The wooden fence has mostly burned down.

There's no going past there any more.

I'd be killed.

You must want to see your mother.

Yes, of course I do.

But someday, for sure, I'll go.

When I reach home,
I'll taunt the soldiers about it!

Yes!

Why does everyone here sleep
like hanging insects?

There's lots of wild
foxes in these parts.

They'd eat you alive as you slept.

If we do this, we're safe.

Wild foxes?

I met some too.

You did?

- Yes.
- They live by eating the dead soldiers.

On top of that, they use magic.

What sort of magic?

It's something like hypnosis.

They drive the townsfolk mad.

When it seems like the battle might end,

they cast their spells
and drag it out for longer.

Did you see the eyes of the
folks in town who beat you?

Those eyes... Those eyes...

Hey! Dororo, you listening?

Big brother...

A mother?

This is awful.

It's as if the entire
town is a den of foxes.

Tahoumaru, do you understand?

You shall strike the first blow.

Yes.

Silence!

Curse it, I said silence!

All of you, listen!

Now, at dawn's first light, we will
break through the enemy defences.

We will quickly swarm the town.

Obliterate the enemy and
occupy the territory.

Understood?

Saving newfound friend Sukeroku
and going to find his parents,

Dororo is caught amid the battle.

Will the two be able to
find Sukeroku's parents safely?

The nine-tailed fox rampages
as though thrilled by the war.

As it does, Hyakkimaru and
Tahoumaru finally cross swords.

On next week's Dororo,
The Scroll of the Banmon, Finale.

Please, look forward to it.
