Catfish: The TV Show (2012–…): Season 5, Episode 2 - Jeanette & Derick - full transcript

Mama doesn't always know best. Concerned daughter, Shuntay, enlists the help of Nev and Max after her mother, Jeanette, begins talking about marriage and uprooting her family to be with a man who refuses to meet in person.

>> And we're still driving

into the woods.

This person lives in the middle

of nowhere.

>> This is not Atlanta.

That seems to be another lie.

>> Oh, gosh.

[dramatic music]

**

I'm scared.

I'm a good mother.

I'm a good friend.

[knocking at door]

>> Looking for Derick.

>> That's me.

>> And I don't think

I deserve this.

[upbeat music]

**

>> Should we make another

episode of "Fatfish"?

I know it's nice to sit around,

but people need our help.

>> How do you keep your legs

so skinny?

>> [sighs]

You know what time it is.

Email time.

Oh, this is a good subject.

"I'm sick of hearing the lies

and excuses.

Hi Nev, and Max.

My name is Shuntay..."

>> Shuntay!

>> "I'm 21.

My mom, Jeanette, and I live

together in Orlando, Florida,

and I'm concerned about someone

my mom has been talking to."

>> All right.

>> Oh, a mom episode.

>> Finally, yeah!

Her mom is probably our age.

>> Okay, anyway,

"My mom's falling in love

with this guy Derick,

who she has never met.

They met on PlentyOfFish,

and they have been talking

for about seven months now.

My mom has never really done

this whole online thing,

but it was something

about Derick that really made

her want to give it a try."

>> * Oh, oh, fantasy take me

* Over and break me

>> "She wrote him basically

giving him a compliment

on his picture, and ever since

that day, they've been writing

each other nonstop."

>> * I've been looking *

* For the conqueror

* But you don't seem *

* To come my way

>> "My mom always tells me

that Derick is so different

from the guys in her past.

He's actually talking

about marriage and sounds

genuine about it.

>> * Oh, oh

* But there's no seduction *

* Only destruction

>> "But as serious as it's

getting, he's not met my mom

or even shown his face

on video chat."

>> You know what that means.

>> He has no face.

>> [laughs]

>> "When my mom asks to meet

Derick, he always says he is

busy with work and he's sorry.

We need to find out

what's holding Derick back

from seeing my mom.

Shuntay."

>> Whoa.

>> We've had a mom concerned

about her son, but I don't think

we've had a child concerned

about their mom.

>> A new leaf

that we're turning over.

>> Yeah, let's Shuntay

on the line.

[phone ringing]

>> both: Hey!

>> Hey Shuntay, how are you?

>> I'm good, how are you?

>> Great.

Have you always lived

in Orlando?

>> No, I moved a lot.

>> Oh.

>> My mom, she's the type

of person, she likes to always

be on the go.

>> So she's a criminal?

>> No, she's not a criminal.

>> Do you still live with her?

>> Yeah, I do.

We're, like, really close.

>> We just read your email

about your mom and Derick.

>> Can you tell us the story

of how they met?

>> The met on PlentyOfFish,

and she had messaged him first,

"You're really cute,"

and a couple months later,

she felt comfortable enough

to give her number to him.

That's, like, when the feelings

started getting stronger.

>> Are you around when

she talks to him on the phone?

>> They're, like,

really lovey-dovey.

Always, like, saying

they love each other,

planning their future.

This is, like,

something major for her.

>> Where does Derick live?

>> Atlanta.

>> Has she gone to Atlanta

to meet up with him?

>> No.

He's always making up excuses.

It's like, "Oh,

I'm sorry, babe."

Like, "You know my schedule.

I'm just busy.

I'm sorry.

Oh, no, babe, you know,

the weather's cold."

He just always has an excuse.

It's like, "Ugh."

But I believe my mom,

she really likes Derick,

'cause Derick is accepting

to the fact that I have a baby.

[upbeat music]

*

She never had anybody, like,

accept all of us.

>> Wow.

>> The whole package.

>> So Derick's

talked about you guys

all being a family?

>> Nonstop.

I'm, like, really overprotective

of my mom.

I feel like it's switched, like,

I'm the mama bear, and I'm just,

like, trying to protect my cubs.

>> Does your mom know

that you've reached out to us?

>> Yes, so she knows.

>> Whatever helps your mom

meet Derick,

she's probably happy about.

>> Yeah.

>> All right, we're coming

down to Orlando.

>> Okay, bye.

>> Bye.

>> She's sweet.

>> They would be a family.

>> What's great about this

episode is that it's the first

time we're actually helping

a grandmother.

>> That's true.

Let's do this.

>> Get your stuff together.

>> Here we go.

>> * Down, down, down, down

* In a world this wide

* We feel limited

>> Why do you have a camera now?

This was not part of the deal.

[upbeat music]

*

>> Orlando, we are in the house.

Jeanette, this is her first time

really putting herself

out there online,

which we know can be

a great way to meet people,

but if you get burned

on your first try--

>> You're gonna be less likely

to put yourself out there again.

Jeanette probably can't imagine

the lengths people would go to

to lie about who they are

on the internet.

>> Right.

>> This might be

a rude awakening.

>> There it is.

>> Ready?

>> Yep.

*

>> Hey.

>> Hello.

>> How are you?

>> I'm good.

>> Here's the crew.

>> Hey, guys.

>> Can we come in?

>> Yes.

>> All right, let's go--whoa.

>> Oh, my God,

is this your sister?

>> This can't be your mom.

>> This is your mom?

>> Wait, are you catfishing us

right now?

>> No.

>> If I may ask,

how old are you?

>> I'm actually 40.

>> 40 never looked so good.

>> Thank you.

>> Exactly.

>> Yeah, can't wait

to turn 40 now.

[laughter]

Well, let's sit down

and start chatting.

>> I'm not used to being

around this many handsome men.

>> We do have a few handsome men

in here.

You guys can go out together,

and you can be her wingman.

>> I wouldn't hang with her.

She can't hang with me.

I just turned 21.

>> Oh, that's true.

>> Her friends be trying

to holler at me sometimes.

>> I had posted a photo

of me and my mom on my Facebook.

Some of my friends

tried to add her.

I said, "Deny.

You is not gonna add my mom."

>> Have you seen our show?

>> I actually didn't

see your show till my daughter

brought it to my attention.

I was like "Whoa, this kind of

sound a little familiar."

>> You met on PlentyOfFish?

>> Yes.

>> Right, you set up account.

>> Account.

>> Like, what made you

want to do that?

>> Working so much and stuff

and then, you know,

you get lonely,

you want companionship.

And I came across Derick, and I

was like, "Ooh, he's sexy."

*

But it took forever

for him to respond back.

Kept checking my phone,

kept checking my phone.

The finally he responds, like,

"How you doing?"

And I was like "Bam."

I reeled him in.

He's into my family.

He wants a family with me.

He's accepting of my daughter.

He's accepting of the baby.

My feelings for Derick

have grown stronger,

like, I love him.

He makes me feel like I'm

the only woman in the world.

>> I mean, it sounds perfect.

>> We've talked about marriage.

>> Really?

>> Yes, and then last night

he was like, "Zales has a sale."

"Like, on what?"

He's like "Oh, rings."

>> Really?

Are you looking

to have more kids?

>> We've talked about it.

>> And you're up for it?

>> I'm open to it.

>> Still open for business?

[laughter]

>> Exactly.

>> How old is this gentleman?

Uh-oh.

>> 27.

>> Oh.

>> But he's so mature,

like, I don't even

think about his age.

>> What else do you know

about him, I mean?

>> He drives forklift,

he lost his mom

when he was a teenager,

and he longs for a close

relationship with his family.

>> We'd love to see a picture

of this guy.

>> Okay.

>> Do you have it on your phone?

>> Here's a picture.

>> Handsome topless guy alert.

Got the abs, yeah.

>> This guy looks like a model.

>> Could be a model.

>> Yeah.

>> He got, like, a little

baby face kind of.

>> That guy doesn't look like

he drives a forklift.

What's his voice like?

>> Sexy.

[laughter]

>> I get turned on.

>> Oh yeah?

How turned on do your

phone calls get?

>> Keep it PG-13.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> You be trying to get up

in my little business.

I see that.

>> Why are you so nosy?

>> [laughs]

>> Mm-hmm.

>> And how far is it from here

to Atlanta?

>> Six hours, I believe.

>> Yeah, about six.

>> The idea of one of you

driving to the other

or even meeting halfway is

something that you've

talked about?

>> Yeah, I've discussed it

a couple times.

"Oh, babe, I got to work

that weekend."

I was like, "We can make

an arrangement, kind of.

All you got to do is just

ask for that day off.

Just let me know.

Get the day off,

and I'll try to, you know,

get those days off with you."

But--

>> He's not making the time.

>> Right, right.

>> And why do you think that is?

>> Maybe he has a girlfriend,

maybe he's married.

>> And then you've tried

to talk with him on video chat?

>> Yes, first time it was like,

"Oh, babe, there's something

wrong with my camera.

But you looking good, though."

I'm like, "But I can't see you,

so it's not fair."

>> What do you see

when you're...

>> It's just, like,

a black screen.

>> Just totally black?

>> Yeah.

If he wasn't who he say he is,

I will be pissed off, because,

like, I've shared my life

with him.

He's spoken on the phone with

my daughter before, you know?

I've been getting, like,

frustrated, like, "Babe."

>> And I'm getting frustrated

too, hearing about it.

>> But I do want to see him.

Like, I want him to hold me.

You know, I want him to tell me

everything is okay,

look him in his eyes

and just, you know,

just have our life together.

>> When we do our research,

if it's okay, maybe I'll borrow

your daughter, and we'll then

all report back to you

as part of Team Jeanette.

>> We'll find out.

>> We'll find out.

>> Okay.

All right, guys, thanks.

>> Bye.

>> both: Bye.

>> I think that she thinks

she's getting her cake

and eating it too.

She's got the super sexy,

hot guy...

>> Young.

>> Who also happens to be

a very mature, caring,

sensitive person who wants to

take care of her, her child,

and her grandkid.

>> And Shuntay, obviously

if her mom ends up

moving to Atlanta,

she's going to Atlanta.

All of their lives are very much

wrapped up in this guy.

>> If he turns out to not be

who he says he is,

it's gonna really mess her up.

>> I love this place.

Orlando is, like,

a child's fantasy of what

a city should be: roads

connecting amusement parks.

>> [laughs]

>> It's incredible.

>> So Shuntay and Jeanette.

>> Daughter, mother,

even though they look

like they're siblings.

>> I spoke to Shuntay

this morning.

She is at a coffee shop,

so we'll meet her there.

Let's see what we can

figure out.

>> This place is awesome.

>> Hi.

>> How are you?

>> I'm good.

>> All right, have a seat,

have a seat.

Okay, your mom sent us an email

that says "Hey, guys!

I am ready for some answers."

Whoo!

>> Exactly.

>> "I've attached all the photos

I have of Derick to this email.

I appreciate whatever results

you may have, whether it be

good or bad."

All right, so we've got

seven photos.

>> Mainly selfies.

>> Right.

>> Which is--

>> Never a good sign.

>> No.

>> We've got his phone number--

>> He's got an Atlanta

area code; that's a good sign.

>> We've got his Facebook.

Okay, you guys ready

to dive into this?

>> Yes.

>> Let's go to his

Facebook page.

>> All right, here we go.

Derick [bleep].

Boom, let's see.

He's got a lot of friends,

and a lot of them are ladies.

>> Let's look at his

information first.

>> All right,

so general laborer.

Lives in Atlanta.

>> He's from Atlanta.

>> Says he's in a relationship.

He just posted a couple days

ago, "Just one of them nights."

>> So he has a Snapchat.

>> Oh, yeah.

Well, that's interesting,

'cause this is a front-facing

camera photo, which means that

his front-facing camera works.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> So that's bogus.

He's got a lot of pictures.

Okay, well let's download

all of these.

Well, that's, like,

a very model shot.

>> Yeah.

>> Well, why don't we

image search the photos?

>> You want to?

I think we should probably.

>> This will be the moment

of truth, I think.

>> All right, so let's start

with this one, see if we

get anything.

>> both: Oh!

>> We got it; we got a hit.

>> The first picture we got--

>> Who's Jeremale?

>> Jeremale?

>> Jeremale?

>> Somebody comes up a bunch

on "broh_usexxy" Tumblr page,

and there's an Instagram.

>> And a Twitter.

>> Let's go to this Instagram.

>> This is not looking good.

>> Here he is.

>> This is it.

>> A lot of followers.

So this looks--

>> He's got 13,000 followers.

>> And there's a picture.

>> Here are some of the pictures

that your mom has seen,

but, like, way more.

>> Yeah, that is very weird.

>> This--and wait, 2016.

He's class of '16.

Dude, your mom is in love

with a high school senior.

>> Mm, wow.

>> Oh, man.

>> This is not good news.

>> This is gonna crush your mom.

>> Oh, my God.

>> But that's the guy

in the pictures.

>> That's definitely him.

>> Which is not the guy

she's talking to.

>> Wait a second, so let's

check out Twitter just to

confirm that Instagram

account's even real.

>> See what he be talking about.

>> Here's a tweet.

He's got people tagged in this.

>> "Happy birthday, bro.

Anthony."

>> It seems like

his real Twitter.

>> Oh yeah, look [bleep].

HHS, right, right, right.

>> He's graduating next year.

We can almost safely say

that this is not the guy

your mom is talking to.

>> I know my mom's gonna be

really sad about this.

>> So we think we've identified

the mask.

Now it's about figuring out

who the real person your mom

is talking to is.

>> Yeah.

>> Only thing we have

that we know is real

is his phone number.

>> All right, let's see what

happens when we search

his phone number.

>> Whoa!

>> Whoa!

>> It gave us Derica [bleep].

>> Same last name.

Wait a second.

>> Oh, shucks okay.

>> In Georgia.

Your mom could be talking

to a woman.

Not good for your mom.

>> Oh, my God, this is--no.

>> Could it be a woman?

>> I don't know.

>> You've spoken to him, right?

>> Yeah, his voice is,

like, kind of deep.

>> We've seen an episode

where the voice sounds

like the voice of a man,

but it's a really a woman.

>> Oh, I hope not.

I now my mom wouldn't like that.

My mom, she's interested in men,

so a woman pretending to be

a man, that's, like, really big.

>> But what if it's a guy?

Could be a family member

of hers.

>> Yeah, she, he,

whatever it is,

is, like, really playing

with her feelings.

>> Yeah, this is not good.

>> All right, we're gonna have

to break the news to Mom.

She's not gonna be happy.

Not only finding out

that the guy in the pictures

is in high school,

but that she's not talking

to him probably.

>> She's gonna be pretty pissed.

[dramatic music]

*

>> Ready to do this?

>> Yeah, I'm ready.

>> Here we go.

*

>> Hey.

>> Hey.

>> Good to see you.

>> Why don't we all sit down?

As promised,

we did some research.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> And found

some interesting stuff.

Some of it's a little confusing,

some of it's a little upsetting,

but I feel like we're

closer to understanding,

you know, what's going on here

and who you're talking to

for sure.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> All right, so get

the old laptop out.

The first thing we did, we just

went to his Facebook page.

When we look at his page,

there's not a whole lot

in here about him.

Just general laborer

and that he's in a relationship,

but that's really all there is.

But when we go to his timeline,

we thought this was

kind of interesting.

In this picture, Derick is

clearly using his

front-facing camera.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> Which means that it makes

his excuse about not being able

to video chat bogus.

>> But we know that he has

a camera that works.

>> Right.

>> The next thing we did was,

we took all the pictures

that you had sent us,

and we went to image search.

And so we took this first

picture, and immediately we got,

like, a bunch of hits.

>> Wow.

>> The first one is a website

called "broh_usexxy."

So we went to that website,

and here's the picture,

but underneath it, it says

Instagram @jeremale

and Twitter @jeremale.

>> Mm-hmm.

>> So we went to the Instagram

page for Jeremale,

and it's this.

>> It's a lot of pictures.

>> Wow.

>> These are pictures

you haven't seen,

and in this one, it looks like

he's with his best friend.

In this one he's standing

in front of, like, a poster

of him dressed in, like,

his football uniform.

>> Wow.

>> But more than anything,

we got to this picture,

and that's when we realized

something was not right.

>> [sighs]

The kid in this photograph

is in high school.

>> Wow, so that means

about 17 years old.

>> Right, 17, 18,

but he hasn't graduated yet.

>> Wow.

[sighs]

I need a minute.

*

>> You okay?

>> I'm just thinking, like,

is this the person

who I've been talking to?

I'm talking to a baby?

>> In don't think you're talking

to a 17- or 18-year-old kid.

I think you're talking

to someone who's taken pictures

of this 17- or 18-year-old kid.

>> This just--this just a--

this is a lot for me.

To lie to me

for all this time...

>> They're--

>> I'm, like,

really hurt right now.

I'm trying not to cry,

but I just feel like I'm a fool.

>> * You seem friendly

* And I'm all alone *

* All alone

* All alone

* Ooh

>> Let's finish.

>> There's more to--yeah.

>> Oh, God.

Who the hell have I

been talking to?

>> Let's finish.

>> There's more to--yeah.

>> Oh, God.

I can't even look

at this picture right now.

I'm just disappointed.

like, I'm so sorry.

>> Well, why are you sorry?

>> 'Cause he's 17

or 18 years old.

>> Well, this kid is,

but I don't--I think

what we're figuring out

is that you haven't had

any contact with this kid.

>> No?

Well, who the hell

am I talking to?

>> Well, that's what we're

trying to figure out.

Here's where it gets

really weird.

We ran the phone number,

and we got this.

>> Derica [bleep].

>> Which is awfully close

to "Derick," but a female.

>> But I was talking to a guy

on the phone, not a girl.

>> Well, there are a lot

of scenarios that we have come

across where you could be

talking to a guy on the phone,

and that guy is--

>> Relaying the message

from her?

>> Right, is playing the voice

for Derica, or it could be a

woman who has a lower voice

and can drop it even lower

when she talks to you.

We've seen that.

>> It's a lot to try to take in.

I don't even know what to say.

>> Whether it's a man

or a woman, or everything

they've told you is real,

or everything they've told you

is fake, like, you've spent

a lot of time texting

and talking to someone.

>> Yes.

>> And they made you,

for the most part, feel loved,

and I don't think they would

do that if they didn't

care about you.

>> Right.

>> So whoever's behind this

probably has real feelings

for you.

>> Yeah.

>> Why don't I just step

outside, give him a call,

and see if I can convince him

to meet up with us?

>> Okay.

*

[phone ringing]

>> Yeah, hey, is this Derick?

>> Hey, Derick, this is gonna

sound a little strange,

but this is Nev,

the host of "Catfish."

>> I am with Jeanette.

Her daughter, Shuntay,

reached out to us because,

you know, she knows you

and Jeanette have been talking

and trying to meet up and

thought we might

be able to help.

You there?

>> She's really thinking

about moving up to Georgia

and bringing her family and--

>> So what's been

kind of getting in the way?

What's been stopping you guys

from seeing each other?

>> I'm a good mother.

I'm a good grandmother.

I'm a good friend.

And the only thing I shared with

him was my hopes, my dreams.

It's like--

[sighs]

And I don't think

I deserve this.

>> You don't.

>> Jeanette now knows

that you're not

the guy in the pictures that

you've been sending her, and we

know that that's not really you

you on your Facebook page.

Is it--

>> Is your name really Derick?

>> It's not?

Are you 27?

>> I'm sure you can imagine

how upset she is and how

confused she is right now

to learn that the person

she thinks she's been talking to

for the last nine months

is not that person.

>> Well, she feels like she's

wasted a lot of time

and deserves answers.

And if she doesn't get that,

I think she's gonna have to,

you know,

cut you off along the way.

>> All right, well,

I can count on you then,

to send me the address

and to meet us for sure?

>> Okay, well thank you

for speaking with me,

and we'll see you soon.

Okay, he told me that he cares

about you very much,

and he really does want

to build a future together and--

which to me sounded sincere.

So I asked,

"Is your name Derick?"

"No."

I asked him if he's 27.

He said he's 31.

He does live outside Atlanta,

and he does apparently work

at a warehouse,

not that we can really trust

what he says, but he said

he would meet us.

>> [sighs]

>> If you decide to go, I could

find somebody to watch the baby,

and I'll go to support you,

'cause you know I got your back

through it all.

>> Thank you.

I'm hurt, mad as hell,

but I do need some answers.

[sighs]

>> You're gonna be okay.

We'll get through this.

>> Thanks, guys.

>> All right.

>> * Where do we belong

* Where did we go wrong

* If there's nothing here *

* Why are we still here?

* Ha, ha, ha, ha

* Ha, ha, ha, ha

>> The person that

did this is a fool.

>> * We never had enough

* We never had enough

>> As you get older, it becomes

harder and harder

to meet people.

>> And the older you get,

I think the more--

the bigger a scar it leaves.

[gentle piano music]

*

>> Hello, ladies.

>> Hi.

>> Hey.

>> Good morning.

>> How you feeling?

>> It was just hard.

First night is, like,

the rough night.

>> * I've been out of my mind *

* This slow life

* I'm waiting for you *

* To swing me all of your line

>> Ready for a plane ride?

>> No.

We've never flown before.

>> What?

>> Any suggestions

about our first time?

>> It's normal

for your ears to bleed.

>> Stop lying.

>> Whatever you do--

>> I'ma ask somebody else,

'cause ya'll are playing

too much.

>> * Without you

* Can't be on my own *

*Without you *

* I'm a little bit lost *

* Without you

>> [laughs]

Exactly.

* Without you

* Without you

>> Lord Jesus, thank you.

>> How are you feeling?

>> I'm pissed off right now.

Like, the first question

I want to ask is,

why did you do this?

Did you hate me or something?

Did you get a thrill

out of hurting my feelings?

>> We've been in the car

for 30 minutes at least,

and we're still driving.

>> Into the woods.

>> This person lives

in the middle of nowhere.

This is not Atlanta.

That seems to be another lie.

[dramatic music]

*

>> All right, we're close now.

Just a couple minutes.

>> I'm a little scared.

*

>> This is it.

*

>> [sighs]

>> Let's do it.

*

>> Oh, boy.

*

>> Ready?

>> I'm ready.

*

[doorbell ringing]

[knocking at door]

>> Hi.

>> Hey, how you doing?

>> I'm looking for Derick.

>> That's me.

>> That's you?

>> Yeah.

>> Well, I'm here with Jeanette

hoping that you might

come talk to us.

[dramatic music]

*

>> Hi.

>> Hey, how you doing?

>> I'm looking for Derick.

>> That's me.

>> That's you?

>> Yeah.

>> Well, I'm here with Jeanette

hoping that you might

come talk to us.

>> Yeah.

Yeah, I can do that.

*

>> Why don't you just start

by introducing yourself?

>> Yeah, my name

is Derica and...

>> You're the person I've been

talking to on the phone?

>> Yeah.

>> Why did you do this?

>> 'Cause it was just, you know,

something to do.

>> Something to do?

>> Yeah, yeah, I was bored,

and I made a profile,

and you end up inboxing me,

and we just started talking.

>> That's messed up, you was

playing with her feelings.

>> No, I wasn't necessarily

playing with her feelings.

Everything I told her is true.

It's just--

>> No, everything is not true.

Your name, your age.

>> Your gender.

>> Definitely that.

>> Do you primarily date women?

Do you date men and women?

>> I date women.

>> Why did you make a male

profile?

>> Just to have fun, you know?

That's what it was,

but everything changed

once I started talking to her.

>> Is Jeanette the only person

you were talking to?

>> I mean, I've talked to

a couple of people on there,

but not like how I talk to her.

Since I've been talking to her,

I've been talking to just her.

>> And I was just

talking to you.

I wasted a year of my life,

though, that I can never

get back.

>> I know.

>> And you should be ashamed

of yourself.

>> I'm pissed off.

These are my feelings.

This is my heart.

You just pissed all over me.

You pissed all over my feelings.

>> No, I--

>> No, you did.

You did.

I really loved Derick.

>> I'm still that person.

>> I loved Derick.

>> I'm just a female.

>> You just don't look

like that person.

>> Yes, I don't.

>> You could've told me.

You didn't think

I deserved that?

>> Yeah, you're right.

I just didn't want to lose you.

>> Those I love yous,

I miss yous, those I cares?

>> That's real.

>> No, it's not real.

>> Yes, it is.

>> Yeah, you had me lusting

over a 17-year-old.

Did you know that?

How embarrassing is that?

>> I'm not trying

to embarrass you.

>> You sent me those pictures

of us, you know, a wedding

and stuff like that.

You played me like a fool.

I would have never

done that to you.

I'm so angry with you right now.

Like, I hate you.

I want to hit you so bad.

>> Do you want to step away

for a second?

>> Yeah.

[somber music]

*

>> I was hoping just maybe,

just maybe, it could've been

a guy.

It's taking everything inside me

to keep from slapping

the hell out of her,

'cause I'm [bleep] angry.

>> You deserve to be angry.

>> That was really [bleep] up,

what you did.

>> I know it was.

>> Did you think that there was

a chance if you ever met?

>> I was hoping for a chance.

>> It was all a game for her.

Play Scrabble, you know?

Be bored.

Don't sit up and make

fake profiles and play with

people's feelings and heart.

I just want to go over there

and just slap the [bleep]

out of her and pull that [bleep]

out of her head.

>> You don't need to stoop

to her level.

>> I really loved him, Max.

Her, him, the person.

I really did love them.

I really was thinking

about marriage with Derick.

>> It's tragic

that it got this far.

>> [sighs]

*

>> No, I'm not okay.

You really hurt me.

I just want you to know that.

Thanks for breaking my heart.

I think I've heard everything

I need to hear.

*

>> All right, see you.

>> All right.

>> I just came so close,

so close.

I was about to just lose it.

>> * I was gone

* And alone

>> All right, like, I'm looking

up wedding gowns.

We even was on the phone

one night on the internet

looking at houses in Atlanta.

>> That's so cruel.

>> * I'm only low *

>> You really loved Derick,

didn't you?

>> * On my own

>> I did.

I still do,

but it's not the same person.

How am I gonna rebuild

my life from this?

>> This episode of

"Catfish: The TV Show"

continues now.

How are you ladies

doing this morning?

>> Kind of toss and turned

all night.

Have a lot on my mind.

I need better answers

than what she gave me.

Derica made me feel

like she loved me.

I haven't felt that in a while.

>> And she may have loved you.

She may still love you.

But she wasn't being honest

about who she was,

so how can you love her?

It's a mind [bleep], right?

>> It is.

>> I just feel really bad

for my mom, 'cause I know

that my mom was, like,

putting her all into it.

It just kind of hurts.

>> Why don't we give Derica

a call?

[phone ringing]

>> Hello?

>> Hey it's Nev and Max,

and I'm sitting here with

Jeanette and Shuntay.

Everybody sort of felt like

it'd probably be good

if we got together again.

>> Yeah, you can

come around today.

>> All right, see you in a bit.

>> All right.

>> All right, here we are.

[dramatic music]

*

How you doing?

>> Morning.

>> Ladies, want to sit there?

Okay, well, I think we're all

curious to hear from you

a little bit more about

why we're here.

>> Why did you decide

to continue this charade on

for nine months?

>> I don't know.

I guess I was just

being selfish.

I'm sorry.

I just really thought it was

just a small chance for me

and you being together

and doing the things

that we talked about.

>> But how am I to know

what to believe from you?

It's like I don't even know you.

All these feelings I have

and the hurt and the pain

I feel in my heart, that ache.

'Cause you're the one

who caused me that pain.

>> I know I can't take it back,

but I really am sorry.

>> Talking about, you know,

the babies that you're gonna

have and the house you're gonna

live in and stuff, like,

how does that sit with you?

>> I mean, I said that to her

because I would like

to have that with her.

>> But you can't give me

no baby.

>> I mean, there's ways

around it.

We could.

>> You sold me a false dream.

>> I was just hoping

that we could get past this.

I really was.

>> The only way to kind of

get past this is to kind of

go through it.

Instead of going around it

or sweeping it under the rug,

like, you can only

go through it.

I think what Jeanette wants here

was kind of your side

of the story so that she can

at least come away with this

with, like, the facts.

>> I know that one of the things

that you guys did talk about

was Derick lost his mother.

I don't know if that's true

or not, but if it is true

in your case, why don't you go

back and start with some of the,

you know, real things in your

life that make you who you are?

>> All right, well,

my mom did pass away ten days

before my 16th birthday.

And then my grandfather died

the day after my birthday.

Right after that,

I was pretty much on my own.

>> So you've been on your own,

basically, since you were 16?

>> Yeah, that's when I started

selling drugs.

I ended up getting locked up,

so I end up being homeless,

and I started talking

to older women.

I lived with them and, you know,

I did what I had to do

until I was old enough

to get my own place.

>> Was it, like,

sexual then, or?

>> Yeah, it was

in relationships.

I just did what I had to do,

I guess, at that time.

>> You were 16, 17 years old?

>> Yeah.

>> And having sex

with older women?

>> And men, yeah.

>> Wow.

>> Well, look, this really is

your relationship.

It might just be good for us

to let you guys just

have a few minutes to yourself.

Take your time.

>> I love you.

>> I love you too.

*

>> Jeanette, like, give me

a chance to make it up.

I mean, you're my best friend.

I love you,

and that's not gonna change.

I really, truly am sorry.

>> I don't know, Derica.

The relationship that we had,

I haven't been that happy

in a long time.

I'm trying my hardest

not to cry.

I loved you,

but not you.

I'm sure there's somebody

out there for you,

but it's not me.

This will be our last time

seeing each other.

I won't contact you no more.

I wish you luck

with your future plans.

I got to make new ones.

>> I understand.

>> Okay.

>> * Kerry made his way

* To Vegas

>> I'm sorry, Jeanette.

>> I'm sorry too, Derica.

>> * Kerry struck

* A sea not golden

* Turned it into powder glow

>> I needed that.

I feel better.

>> * Made the whole room snow

>> Now it's time

for the healing process.

>> * Kerry fell in love

>> I appreciate you guys

for going on this journey.

I really appreciate you guys.

I really do.

And I will never forget ya'll.

Thank you.

Thanks, Max.

>> Love you too, Jeanette.

>> * What bothered him

* But it ate him up inside

>> These are memories

I will never forget,

and I will always cherish them.

>> If your plane doesn't crash

on the way home.

>> Stop saying that, Nev!

[laughter]

See how you ruin a moment?

[laughter]

[phone ringing]

>> both: Hey!

>> It's the twins.

Look at that.

It's a mirror image.

So what's going on with Derica?

Are you talking to her?

>> We've spoken occasionally,

me and Derica.

>> Really?

>> Yeah.

>> It sounds like then

you guys are cool.

Everything's okay between you?

>> I'm still kind of hurt,

but you have to

forgive and forget.

I'm at a better place

than I was two months ago.

>> Well, we had a lot of fun

with you guys.

>> We miss you guys.

>> Bye.

>> Bye.

[phone ringing]

>> What up, Derica?

>> Yeah, what's up?

>> How you doing?

>> Doing good.

How's everything with Jeanette?

Have you talked to her at all?

>> Yeah, I've talked to her

a few times.

It may have took her a minute

to forgive me so she could

talk to me.

It's not like it used to be,

but I'm just glad

she forgave me.

I mean, but I would rather

have her for a friend.

>> Good.

>> I'm glad to hear

everything is going well.

Maybe next time we're in

Atlanta, we'll bump into you.

>> I would love that.

>> All right, cool.

See you later, bye.

>> Bye, Derica.

>> "I need to know what's

going on with Justin.

My future may depend on it."

>> You're gonna move

to California to be with him.

>> Hey, Justin, it's Nev.

>> This is the first time

we've gonna after someone

who told us no.

>> Ready or not, here we come.

>> Who's this?

>> Is that him? Oh, my God.
