As little girls,

we always wanted
to be ballerinas,

but the opportunity
was not always there for us.

Most professional
ballet companies,

they want everyone
to look the same.

Being an
African-American woman

with hips, with thighs

in dance,
it was never really accepted.

[soft dramatic music]

Growing up,
I had the right body type

for ballet,
but I didn't ever realize,

like, what was missing.

Like, I didn't think
I was good enough.

And...
[sobs]

It definitely makes me sad
to think that there are

so many people out there
that are not still dancing

'cause they didn't
feel accepted.

♪ ♪

"AGT" is a huge opportunity
for us to share our dance

and who we are with the world.

And we want to show
little girls out there

that you don't have
to fit the mold.

You don't have to be
what they're asking you to be.

We put in a lot of work

My entire life,

I've been passionate
about playing the drums.

I would go home from school

and just play
every single day.

All of my teachers knew
that I had a special talent.

So after I graduated college,
I decided to join

the United States Marine Corps
Drum and Bugle Corps.

I figured that this would be,
like, the dream job to have.

You know, I get to play drums

and serve my country
at the same time.

There's nothing
better than that.

By being here, I really hope

to just share my skills
with the world,

perform in front
of millions of people,

"America's Got Talent,"

since I was a kid.

So, after high school,

I hitchhiked to Los Angeles,
and I didn't know where to go.

being a part of this movie

called "Police Academy."

And suddenly my life changed.

From there, I ended up
being part of "Gremlins."

a hand-balancing contortionist.

One of the most difficult
parts about what I do

is that it's so physical.

I train a lot because
ever since I was a child,

I always dreamed of performing
on an international stage,

so being given
this opportunity

is a very, very,
very big deal.

if not thousands of hours.

There have been hard moments.

blood, sweat, and tears

November 5th, 2016,

I met the love of my life.

Now, how did you guys met?

I met Ray attending a party.

It was very dimly-lit,

and I said,

stupid sunglasses on."

Literally,
that's the first thing.

First thing
I heard my wife say.

The relationship starts real.

It doesn't take all day
to recognize sunshine,

and as soon as I saw her,
I understood she was sunshine.

We were married November 2018.

- Did you know he was a singer?
- I found out very quickly.

Ray has literally sang
every moment

that his eyes have been open.

To sing has been my dream
my entire life,

but after college,
I was looking for a job.

I ended up selling cars,

but I never stopped singing.

Music takes me
to another world,

and I found it helps me
get through hard times.

Just after
our one-year anniversary,

Roslyn was getting headaches.

So I went to the doctor,
and she said,

"You have a mass the size
of an orange on your brain."

Ten months of chemotherapy.

It was hard seeing her
go through that.

When I felt helpless,
I sat down at the piano,

with her by my side,
and I sang her a song,

and it was simply
to make my wife smile.

His singing helped.

It got me
through brain cancer.
