it feel to be back?

It feels so incredible
to be here and to watch people,

and what happened
with Angelica Hale last year

was mind-blowing so...

I love you
taking credit for that.

and she was the runner-up
last year.

Yeah.
And mine was the winner!

Yeah, she had
the winner, yeah.

What advice do you have
for these contestants?

You know, they've trained.
They've worked hard.

Honestly, just have fun
and be yourself.

I mean, it's very hacky advice,

but that's the best advice
that I can give.

I'm Brian King Joseph.
I'm 27.

I'm from L.A.,
and I play electric violin.

Violin's my passion.

That's what makes me happy.

My first memory
actually holding a violin,

I was only four years old,
and it was put in my hands,

a little baby thing,
like this big,

and ever since then
I've been playing.

At 22 years old,
I got my scholarship

to my dream school,
Berklee College of Music.

It was the most amazing moment
of my life at that point.

I mean, it seemed like
this is where

I could really show everybody
what I was ready to do.

[fast-paced fiddling]

I was living my dream,

but then three years ago
I was diagnosed

with a nerve disease that takes
away the feeling

from my hands and my feet

and eventually will spread
throughout my body.

[dramatic music]

My hands stopped working
for more than a hour a day.

The doctors said I may
never play violin again.

I became bedridden.

I felt really scared,

and I honestly thought
there was a good chance

I might never get up,

but I had one person who
stayed with me the entire time.

My girlfriend
Kimmy was there for me.

She helped me believe
in myself again,

and it's the reason
why I'm here today.

I don't know how much longer

I'm gonna be able to play my
violin, but while I can,

I'm gonna bring it
with everything I've got.

[cheers and applause]

You made quite
the impression on us, Brian.

I could say
the same about you guys.

I think it's important that

I have an advanced case
of peripheral neuropathy.

It's already to the point
where I can't feel my hands,

and I've lost motor function.

And the fact that you are

a violin player
makes it even harder.

that it doesn't matter
what obstacles you might have.

that makes you happy.

in 2009 in San Francisco.

It's not always easy to
make a living out of dance,

but we have been
extremely committed.

We've done multiple shows
around the U.S.,

also around different
countries like China.

We have followed
your work since forever.

very special for us.

and we are a dance crew
from the Dominican Republic.

When we were kids,

we didn't have money
to go to dance classes.

We didn't have any
big expectations at all.

We just wanted to dance.

We never thought we would be,

Then we got here,
and Academy of Villains

is in the competition,
and we were like...

Coming from the Dominican
Republic, we are very used

to hear people say,
"You guys can't do this."

a different kind of passion

from you guys than we see
from other dance troupes.

It was actually tears of joy,

tears of happiness,
tears of sadness

because we actually--

15 years ago
we created Da RepubliK,

and one of our founding
members was Brangie.

He was the one always
pushing us to believe.

Brangie was diagnosed
two years ago

from a chronic disease that
people manage to live with

if they have
the proper health care,

but in our country
that doesn't really exist.

He got really ill last year,

and he just died.

♪ ♪

He had five children,

and he was the most loving
father we have ever seen,

and every time
we get on that stage,

we're gonna do it with
his memory in our hearts.

And if we win this--
no, when we win this,

it will change our lives

and Brangie's family's
life forever.

I'm Flau'jae
from Savannah, Georgia.

I'm 14 years old,
and I'm a rapper.

I did a song
about gun violence.

It's called "Guns Down."

Let's pick up on that because
I think it's important

that you tell everyone
what you told us

on the first day we met,
if you don't mind.

My dad,
his name was Camouflage.

He was a rapper, up-and-coming.

He was gonna be signed
to Universal Records,

but two days before he
was gonna sign the contract,

he got murdered, and my
mom was pregnant with me, yeah.

[somber music]

I was 20 years old when
I got pregnant with Flau'jae,

and me and her dad
were so excited.

He was talking to my stomach
every day, telling her raps.

Our little family
was just gonna be perfect,

and then his life was
suddenly taken from him.

Every day I think,

"What would it be like
if my dad were there?"

I never got to touch him,
never got to hug him,

never got to even talk to him.

[exhales]
I'm sorry.

When Flau'jae
was about five years old,

she came
in the kitchen rapping.

I'm like,
"What are you doing?"

And she's like,
"I'm gonna be a rapper."

After what
her dad went through,

I didn't want that for her,
to be honest.

I'm like, "Go pick up a book.

Go find something else to do,"

but she wouldn't give up.

have put that gun down ♪

♪ Then he would have been
here right now ♪

That moment
meant the world to me.

Like, that was probably one
of the best moments of my life.

Just being there,
just being in front of America.

Right now, we are witnessing

the start of somebody's
career, big-time.

I felt like my dad was with me

the whole time
during that audition.

When I first came to AGT,

people thought it wasn't
the right move for me,

but I don't care
how people feel about it.

I'm gonna show them me.

I feel like when times
are rough

and the pressure is on you,

press yourself some more
and turn into a diamond.

That's what I have to learn.

I had to learn to turn
that negative into a positive.

My whole goal is to continue
my father's legacy.

I feel like he died too early.

That's what I feel,
and I feel like he had a dream,

and he had things he wanted
to do, so I'ma do it for him.

especially growing up
with Tourette's syndrome.

Tourette's syndrome,
it's why my head flops around

and I blink real fast.
It's weird.

It always looks like I'm
trying to tell you a secret.

I mean, God, what a fantastic
attitude you've got to life.

of being on the road,

trying to support my family,

getting the four yeses
felt like

everything we'd worked for
was for this moment.

I met my wife,
Alfie, in high school.

She's always been there for me.

There's been moments
where we've been

in the car together crying,

no money in our bank account,

but never once
did she look at me

and say stop pursuing my dream.

I saw his humor,

which is the biggest
thing I fell in love with.

He really is, like,
the definition of what it means

to be, like,
a solid, stand-up man.

Having a baby changes
your entire outlook on life,

so if I could be
one of the acts moving on

and the year
before we got married,

All I could think is,

three months on me to
show you how much I love you

after we've been together
for so long,

I'm gonna make this the worst
three months of your life.

You brought this trickery
upon yourself.

The next week
we went out to dinner.

I got down on one knee.

She was like,
"Oh, my God, this is it."

I was like, "Nah,
girl, I got to tie my shoes.

They loose."

She's been nagging me recently.

She wants me to get a new car.

I'm not gonna do it.
I drive a crappy car.

I do it on purpose.

With a nice car,
it's impossible.

You got to be polite,
let people cut you off

'cause you don't
want to mess up your car.

With a crappy car, I can
do whatever the hell I want.

I run these streets.

Last week a dude cut me off.

I'm not gonna let him get away
with it without him seeing me

glare into his soul to let him
know what he just did to me.

I drove next to him.

I flipped him off.
He flipped me off.

I cut him off.
He cut me off.

We end up in a parking lot.
He got out of his car.

I got out of my car.

He was like, "Yo, homie,
I'll key your car."

I was like, "Yo, homie,
I'll key my own car."

Yo, this dude
wanted to fight me.

I was like, "Bring it.
I'm not scared of anybody.

"I was bullied
when I was younger.

"You're not gonna
bully me as an adult, okay?

"And here's the thing.

"If you fight me,
you are at a disadvantage

"'cause if you beat me up,
you're a dude that beat up

"a dude with a disability,

"and if I beat you up,
you just got your ass kicked

by a dude with a disability."
