Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing (2023–…): Season 1, Episode 9 - Legendary Showdown - full transcript

Two bitter rivals go head-to-head in a multi-step water and bushcraft competition; Steven uses his tracking skills and out-strategizes Jeff to secure a critical cache; Gary forages a huge protein score; one survivalist is eliminated.

[Cheeny] This is different.

[Steven] This is something
we've never done before.

[man 1] You've got to watch your
back for not just animals this time,

but for the other survivalists.

[Gary screaming]

[man 2 screaming] Yeah!

[Sarah groaning]

[narrator] For
the first time ever,

12 of Naked and Afraid's
most skilled survivalists

are competing head-to-head

for 45 days

in the South African bush...

[whooping]

[laughs]

[narrator] ...to crown
the best of the best...

Yeah!

...and win $100,000

This is what I live for!

[narrator] Failure
means elimination.

[man] This challenge is so real.

[narrator] Who will be
the last one standing?

Previously on Last
One Standing...

Your next migration
will take you

two miles downriver.

[narrator] The
survivalists were tasked

with making rafts for
the first river migration.

[Jeff] This river is terrifying.

Somebody would die.

-[Dan speaking]
-[Gary groaning]

[narrator] While Gary and Jeff
narrowly avoided serious injury,

Matt's injured leg

-came out the worse for the wear.
-[Matt] Oh [bleep].

This leg injury is no joke.

It hurts like hell.

[Jeff] I have a feeling that

the others are gonna
ramp up their attacks on me.

[narrator] With only
12 days remaining,

and three elimination
challenges looming,

the competitors are
racing to recover maps

that will reveal new
caches in zone 5.

[Matt] I know what
I'm capable of,

but now I have
to do it, literally,

with one leg behind me.

But at the same
time, I'm using that

warrior spirit inside that says,

"You know what?
There's no giving up."

Just because my leg's
injured doesn't mean

I don't have any good
a chance as I ever did.

[Jeff] I'm among the front
runners of the entire group,

only second behind Dan,

which is huge.

when I'm doing this by myself.

[Dan] Got it, guys.

[Gary speaking]

[Gary] "Navigate through the
razor grass to find a survival tool."

"Look north-west,
through the keyhole,

to guide you to
a fishing asset."

"Track feathers to
hunting grounds."

[narrator] Three
different caches

will be available
in this location.

A survival asset in
the razor tall grass

with blades capable of slicing
skin that brushes against it.

A fishing asset
on the river banks.

And a meat cache

camouflaged in the
heavily-forested hunting grounds.

"Feathers to the
hunting ground."

[Steven] Probably gonna
go for the hunting ground.

I'm gonna be going
for the hunting grounds,

'cause I know the others
won't share anything.

At this point in the challenge,

protein, obviously, is a
much more valuable resource.

It's gonna take everything
I got to get to day 45.

It's all the way over
that side of the lake.

Yeah, our strategy with
the meat cache is that

someone has to
be always on Jeff.

Dan's really quick moving
through this thick brush.

Dan can stay a lot
closer and tighter.

[Dan] I start running for
the meat cache immediately.

I'm the quickest one
in our group by far,

and Jeff is known for sprinting
around on these challenges, too.

So immediately I
try to stay on Jeff,

and he's five steps ahead of me.

[narrator] Survivalists
chasing the meat cache

must track feathers from the
aggressive Egyptian goose,

known to lose their feathers

attacking intruders who
encroach on their territory.

[Dan speaking]

So right now I'm headed towards

the feather.

I can see on the map
that there's an island

in the middle

of the river, so I
may be getting close.

You know, I've got navigational

and survival tracking skills

that I'm gonna be able
to complete this challenge.

[Dan] Where do you
think you're going?

[Jeff] Apparently,
Dan's strategy was to

tail me everywhere I go,

thinking, if I follow Jeff,
he'll lead me right to it.

-[Dan] Waz. Hurry.
-[Waz] Yeah?

[Dan] Where you at? Hurry.

[Jeff] Yeah, you
guys better hurry.

-[Dan] Keep talking.
-[Jeff pants]

You better hurry real damn fast.

I am slow, because I have

significant leg injury.

So I don't exactly

have the ability to
keep up with others

on this trail right now.

Because of that,

my best bet is
probably going to be

find a fishing asset.

[narrator] To locate
the fishing asset,

Matt will need to track a
piece of driftwood in the river.

Then he must identify a keyhole.

North-west from the keyhole

will reveal the location
of the hidden fishing item.

[Matt] I'm gonna kinda work
down the side of the river,

look across to see if I
can't spot the driftwood,

and look for something I see no
one else looking for at the moment.

Even though my leg
is screaming on fire,

I'm still able to swim.

[Waz speaking]

[Dan] Keep going.

[Jeff] Everyone's
tracking the feathers

because everyone is so hungry.

They need some food,

we're burning so many
calories every day.

[mouthing]

-[Waz] We're looking for feathers, yeah?
-[Dan] Yeah.

[Jeff] I might not be
able to compete with five

on an even playing field,

but if I'm smarter
than everyone else,

if I use more strategy
than everyone else,

I can flip the tables.

I was the first one
to find the feather.

I started picking
up all the feathers,

putting them in my bag.

As I walked around,

I'd toss feathers

on random trails

and create paths
that lead to nowhere.

Anything I can do

to keep them off the trail.

Whoa! Up here!

[chuckling] I'm having fun.

This is my playground out here.

[Matt speaking]

On the map it says,
"Look for the keyhole,

go north-west to
find the fishing asset."

Well, straight west
is gonna be that way,

north that way.

And it brought the bearing
to right in this slash here.

This patch of
grass is my bearing.

It could be slightly
off, I have no compass.

What I'm doing now
is basing it off off

my orientation on the map

and where the river's
orientated on the map.

And this is giving me a pretty,

a pretty narrow, you
know, slot to look through.

Knowing that my leg
is still not too good,

the only way for me

to handle this situation

is to put everything I've got.

I'm gonna keep pushing
harder than anybody.

That is my nature. That is how
I want to take this challenge on.

[Waz] Dude, I've
not seen one feather.

-[Steven] Not one at all?
-[Waz] No.

He might've just picked a few up

and just left it, he might
come back another time.

Kept dropping 'em?

[Waz] He's not gonna
find it while we're on him.

[Jeff] Seems like you're
following me everywhere I go, Dan.

-[Dan] I don't know.
-Is that a strategy?

[Dan] Not really.

[Jeff] Based on
the first 33 days,

I'd say it's a pretty good one.

You can follow me
across that finish line, too.

[Dan] I think, with
some of the feathers,

Jeff has been trying to

pretend to pick 'em up,

or plant 'em,
that kind of thing,

try to do stuff
without me seeing it.

[Jeff] You know
that saying, Dan?

[Dan] Hmm?

If you always follow the leader,

all you're ever gonna
do is follow the leader.

[Dan] That's what I've heard.

[mouthing]

[sighs]

Well, I've, um,

I've now lost the trail.

Um, and, uh,

I'm heading back
to get some water.

I don't think...

I don't think this is worth it.

It's hard. [sighs]

[mouthing]

They're all falling for
every trick I throw at 'em.

This has been my
strategy from the beginning.

They are all, literally,

on a wild goose chase right now.

That'll keep 'em busy,

and now I can go
after the other items.

Yeah, baby.

Looking up.

Looking down.

I had the feather trail.

Lost it in this thick stuff.

Gonna go back to the last

feather location

and, uh...

see if I can pick it back up.

I'm trying to use my
skills as a tracker,

but, man, it's really hard.

I have been struggling

in this challenge and, um,

we haven't had
protein in ten days.

And everybody wants it,

because it is the most
valuable cache that there is.

So I can see Matt on
the other side of the river.

Matt's looking for
the fishing item.

But Matt's injured right now,
so that's all he can really do.

Meanwhile,

all my competitors are
chasing some false feathers.

It says,

about 300 feet from the river.

We're like,

you know, I think,

they could be too far up.

So we're still searching
for that meat cache.

We're looking for it,

and not seeing feathers.

And it's just very,
very frustrating.

Did you come this path?

[Dan] Uh, I think so.
Something like that.

I'm gonna head
back down the hill

because I have not seen a
feather since I've been up here.

There's a chance we're
following feathers that,

uh, Jeff placed.

[Dan] Maybe.

And I don't feel like
we should be this far up.

I'm thinkin'

maybe I'll help with
the fishing asset.

To me, it makes more sense

to spread out the
eyes of the team.

[Jeff] I have some burlap

from one of the
previous items I found.

And I have a piece of corkwood.

I'm gonna wrap up
the piece of corkwood

to make it look
like a fishing asset.

I'm just gonna make
them think I have it

so I can them to stop looking.

It means none
of us will find it,

which puts me on

even playing ground
with everyone else.

Right now, it's five versus one.

But if they don't have
it and I don't have it,

it's even.

I feel like I'm playing with a
bunch of children out here.

They didn't know
what they signed up for.

[Matt] Doesn't say exactly
the degrees north-west.

North-west is pretty
varied. North-west is...

is a lot of degrees
to north-west.

I've been looking
for this fishing cache

for about an hour or so.

And at this point, my
leg, it hurts like hell.

Gonna take a little break.

-[Jeff] Hey, buddy.
-[Matt] Oh, hey.

-[Jeff] How are you?
-[Matt] Not too bad.

-[Jeff] Your leg doing all right?
-[Matt] Yeah.

-What's that?
-I could care less.

I... I just...

-I'm gonna keep things close to my chest.
-Yeah.

I don't really need it,
so I don't really care.

-Good luck.
-[Jeff] Okay.

[Matt] We'll talk later.

-[Jeff] Take care, Matt.
-[Matt] You too.

You know, we've been playing
this entire thing like a chess game.

Trying to figure out what we
need to do to move and place

for a couple of moves ahead.

And I'm not about
to give Jeff an inch.

I haven't been to that side yet.

Hopefully there's
a feather up here.

I know the game
that Jeff is playing.

I know him better than anybody.

But everybody else is
playing a different game.

So I see a feather
in a tree over there.

Here's another one.

[exhales sharply] Getting there.

Here's one.

I'm finding

a feather about
every 45 to 50 steps.

I know for sure I'm finding it.

There's two more.

Here we go.

[Steven] So I see a
feather in a tree over there.

Here's another one.

[exhales sharply] Getting there.

Here's one.

I'm finding

a feather about
every 45 to 50 steps.

I know for sure I'm finding it.

There's two more.

Here we go. Yeah!

Yes!

Yeah!

[whooping triumphantly]

Look at that goose, baby.

[whooping]

Yes!

Yes!

This means a lot for us,

uh, for the next...

You know, this is
gonna be food for us.

Um, this is gonna give us

sustenance for
the next few days.

We haven't had
protein in a long time.

This right here, this is

the most important food
cache that we've had yet.

This is a score.

[Waz] You little ripper!

[Steven] Yeah!

[Waz] Yeah!

-[Steven] Yeah!
-[Waz whooping]

[bleep] yeah!

[Steven] The main goal
was finding the meat cache,

and I found it.

And that feels really good.

Makes me feel happy

for my team and myself.

Jeff's not getting one bite
of this, he doesn't deserve it.

[Steven] Nope.

[Waz] Uh, he's proven
himself over the last 33 days,

and, uh,

-that kind of person doesn't get any help from me or...
-[Steven] No.

...or any of my guys.

And it's, uh, it's game time.

[Jeff] I'm gonna
go across the river,

I'm gonna celebrate

like you've never seen
me celebrate before.

Everyone here is gonna
hear that and think,

Jeff just found
the fishing asset.

[Gary] Hey, bro.

That's the log with the keyhole?

-[Gary speaking] -[Jeff]
Yeah, so this is north-west.

All right. [chuckles]
We'll see what happens.

I'm gonna pretend that I'm
looking at the map right now.

And I'm just getting
ready for my celebration.

If it works... Oh, my God.

Hey, Gary.

Are you ready for some...

Are you ready for some fun?

[screaming] Yes!

[screaming] Yes!

This is what I live for!

This is what I
live for right now!

[whooping]

Yeah. I hear a
narcissist in the distance.

The luckiest!

I mean, so obnoxiously yelling.

-[Steven] Still.
-[Matt] That's a child.

That's a petulant
child right there.

Little petulant child.

[whooping] Take that

South Africa!

[Matt] Sure, you find something.

You're still a
[bleep] adult, Jeff.

Like, act like one.

I think I'm gonna play this one

a little close to my chest.

Jeff just found
the fishing asset.

Gary, I feel horrible.

I just got here,

and I jump on it. What?

I have no idea what it is,
and he doesn't want to share.

And I don't blame him.

What kind of world.

I couldn't have
planned this any better.

I guess this saves you from
searching for another five hours.

[Gary] It was like he knew
where it was. I stepped right over

five minutes before.
Maybe three minutes before.

I stepped right over it,
and then he stepped on it.

Right now, I'm gonna go
see about that survival tool.

I officially have showed up

and I've decided
to play the game.

What's up, guys?

-[Steven] What's up, buddy?
-[Matt] Hey, what's up?

Heard you whisperin'.
Did you find somethin'?

[Jeff chuckles] You
heard that, huh?

[Matt speaking]

That fishing asset there,
you found it pretty quick.

[Jeff speaking]

Yeah? Like, I mean, I barely

made it over to the other side.

Same area that, I guess you
guys were already searching...

Oh, yeah. Just
under water a little bit?

-[Jeff] Yeah.
-How deep do you think?

Seven inches.

On the other side
of the big rock?

-Or on this side of...
-The other side.

-The other side? Deeper...
-Right on the other side.

What was it? Was it a net?

-Um...
-[Matt] Or a fish hook or what?

I, um...

Or you don't want
to say? I mean, I...

I don't know if I've
made up my mind yet.

-Okay. Okay.
-[Jeff chuckles]

-Yeah, I...
-It doesn't matter.

-Yeah.
-[Matt] I don't want any of it.

-Yeah. I know.
-[Matt] Just curiosity.

-It's all good.
-I know. I know.

[Jeff] Yeah?

Whoa!

Whoa!

Steven!

[Steven] Egyptian goose.

Dude!

Great job, bro.

[Steven] Yeah, buddy.

Wow!

I wasn't expecting to see
Steven with the goose.

However, they burned

more calories
looking for that bird

than they're gonna get
by splitting it five ways.

But also, there are
still two items out here,

and no one's gonna have 'em.

Wow. Well, great job, man.

-[Steven] Taking a breather.
-[Jeff] Yeah.

Hey, persistence is key.

[Steven] Yup.

[Jeff] Hey, Gary!

Hey, come on down.

All right, so this is
where I finalize my plan.

This will seal the deal.

Nobody will look for
these items anymore.

If they want to gang up on me...

I'll gang up on them.

-What's happening?
-[Jeff] All right.

Uh, I just wanted to
do you a solid, man.

I... I tore myself up

in the sawgrass earlier,

and I knew you were
coming to look. I...

-I found it.
-Oh, that's fine.

I wanted to save you time,

wounds and everything else.

-Thank you.
-[laughing] Yeah.

You found that too?

-What's that?
-You found that too?

I found it before I
even found the...

-Oh, dude.
-...fishing tool.

-Good for you.
-Yeah, thank you.

-So...
-Man.

Yeah.

[Jeff] Yeah, I...
I'm all cut up.

Yeah.

Did you? Yeah.

-Hey, right there.
-Yeah. By a...

And you would've only seen
it if you were in there, right?

-Yeah.
-Yeah.

Yeah, 'cause it's
a little open area.

Yeah. Yeah.

So there's nothing
left on the table

other than dinner tonight.

Congrats. Enjoy that.

Yeah.

Right now, I'm keeping the ball

away from the competition.

The ball is in my
court right now.

And that's where
it's gonna stay.

I'm the only one using
strategy right now.

Everyone else here,
they're just playing

the same game they've
been playing for 33 days.

I mean, is it clear by now
who's in the driving seat?

[Gary] Man, I stepped over it.

He made a beeline right to
it, like he knew where it was.

Three minutes later,
he stepped on it.

He won't show me.

He held it up and he just...

He won't tell me what it was.

[Jeff] In competition,
the greatest doesn't

always win.

It's always the smartest.

And they bought it,
hook, line, and sinker.

It's done. Everything is gone.

[narrator] Despite what
Jeff is telling the others,

only one cache, the meat
cache, has been recovered.

The fishing asset
on the river banks

and survival cache
in the razor grass

have still not been claimed.

[Dan] All the caches are gone.

It seems like all the
caches are gone,

-but, you know...
-He might not have found the survival tool.

-No, he did. Yeah.
-He did?

[Matt] He definitely got
it. But he's trying to play

some sort of strategy by not
letting anybody know what he's got.

But I could care less.

You can go next membrane. Yup.

[Dan] One goose is good, but
split between four, five people...

it's a little goose.

That's one meal.

Now you get to the liver,
heart, in there somewhere.

Maybe. That's
some, just coagulated

reaction here.

-[Jeff] Great job, man.
-[Steven] Thanks, man. You too.

[Jeff] Steven is very quiet.

His vibe is silence right now.

And, you know,
these others, whatever.

If they don't want
to be my friend, fine.

I'll beat 'em in the end.

But Steven, I love him.

[Steven] This
challenge has just been

really, really hard on me.

I don't like...

some instances in how
this challenge has made me

react.

You want to tell
me what happened?

I've lost the trail and...

-Ended up on mine?
-[Steven] There's...

-I was on bone number 9.
-[Steven] That's...

I'm sorry, I don't
know. I don't...

[sighs] I'm feeling really
[bleep] by Steven right now.

It's gonna be hard
to forgive you, dude.

[Steven] It's been really hard.

And...

I don't want to
leave this challenge...

not learning
something from myself.

[Jeff] I, um...

I guess I should've asked.

Are we cooking it in our camp?

[Steven] No, I'm
cooking it over there.

-Oh, you are? Oh.
-Yup.

[chuckles softly]
All right. I was...

Just to be real with you,

I assume...

you guys are gonna
talk to see if I'm invited.

Right? [chuckles]

-Have a little convo.
-Yeah. All right.

I... I understand the,

you know, the situation, so...

Yeah, it's a whole
different game out here.

[Jeff] Yeah.

This is the not great
part of this gizzard,

so I'll give you
this first. Here, bud.

I'll give you that
first, 'cause you're...

-[Waz] All right.
-[Matt] It's not...

-[Waz] That's better than nothing.
-[Matt] Mm-hmm.

[Gary] Oh, that heart is good.

[Matt] Nice, good
piece of meat, yeah.

Tougher heart than you'd
almost think, but delicious flavor.

-Oh, it's amazing.
-[Gary] Yeah.

[Steven] The fact that
we're not sharing the goose,

I feel bad for Jeff.

But I need to stick to my guns.

It's hard for me to do,

because I'm an emotional guy.

I'm incredibly empathetic.

But I'm loyal

to the people that
have been loyal to me.

And I have to be.

-[Jeff] What's up, guys?
-[Gary] Hey, bub.

I actually came just to

-say, you know, like...
-[Matt] Yeah.

...enjoy your dinner,
and, you know,

I... I understand we're...

all in some crazy competition

and I just want
you guys to know I...

I don't take
anything personally.

-Okay, that's good. That's good.
-[Jeff] You know. Never.

It's not personal. It's
just how, you know,

we established it from the
beginning, so, that's perfect.

You know? Glad we're
on the same page.

Well, enjoy.

-[Matt] Yup.
-Enjoy.

Good luck on catching food
or wherever you're going now.

-[chuckles] Thanks.
-[Matt] Yeah.

There's food out
there some place.

[Jeff laughs] Yeah, I'm sure.

[Steven] It's not personal.

It's not.

I don't think he would
share any food with me.

He hasn't shared anything
with us since day one.

I'm not mad.

But I feel bad.

[Jeff] Okay.

So the goose was a loss.

But I may be able
to get something still.

I'm going for this
item. I'm close.

So I need to go down
here, maybe 50 yards,

and look in the razor grass.

So based on the icon,

the center of it is

near-ish the edge of the water.

I do believe it's gonna
be somewhere near here.

Ooh.

Damn, that's sharp.

This razor grass right now,

it slices you like a knife.

Right now, these needles here

are stuck all
throughout my body.

[narrator] Razor grass,
which can grow up to eight feet,

carries leaves that are lined
with piercing sharp teeth,

primarily to
discourage herbivores

from grazing.

[Jeff] Whatever item this is,

it's gotta be a good one.

[whispering] Yeah, baby! Yes!

This is what I
live for right now.

A freaking axe. Yes!

Oh, my gosh.

Yes!

Oh.

[Matt] All right, Steven,
try that broth out, see if it's...

It may be too hot. I'm not sure.

[Waz] Last night, we had
protein for the first time in ten days.

We had Egyptian
goose. It was amazing.

It didn't even taste like bird,

it tasted like steak.

As soon as you put that
protein in your mouth,

you can feel it
energize your body,

and start to fill you up.

That gave our body a
little bit of the ingredients

that are needed to
repair some of the damage

we've been doing
over the last week.

And I'm feeling a lot
better this morning.

[Matt] Try to see if you can
gnaw any of that off there

and then break that in half.

You can crack open the brain
section if you want the brain,

or you leave it in there and
get the brain out separately.

You just boil the whole thing?

Then just, yeah, just
cook it in a big pot.

[Dan] The past meat caches
we've gotten have been

decently sizeable.

But this one's smaller.

It's a little goose.

It means less food per person,

especially if we're

splitting it five ways.

So, we need to

try to do anything to get
ourselves more calories.

I think today, I'm gonna try to

make fish traps.

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

[Dan] In the last location,

I found a big cast net.

[sighs] I just got to
get this done quickly.

I've been racking my brain
for a way to put it to use.

In my job,

I'm a marine
biologist, I've worked

accessing fishery populations

off the south east coast
of the United States.

And we drop big metal traps,

like, basically a big cube,

and one side has a
little funnel and a hole,

and bait is suspended
on the inside.

You drop it down
on the ocean floor,

and fish come in
and can't get out.

[Gary] Oh.

Wow, look at that chandelier.

[Dan] Mm-hmm.

My first thought is, I can make

a big trap, just like the ones

that I have worked
with in the past,

with net surrounding it.

All I need to do is
make a bamboo frame,

surround it with net,

and make a little funnel,

and put bait inside,

and fish would be able
to go inside, and that's

proven to work in many,
many situations that I've seen.

It's taking shape.

[Waz] I hope it just
gets a fat catfish in it.

Yes. That's what I'm hoping for.

I really think it'll work.

[Steven] We're in
the home stretch.

Everybody working
together benefits everybody.

That's why we've
been so successful.

But I'm also out here to
win this as an individual.

I've been doing this for
better part of a decade.

I'm confident in myself.
I'm confident in my skill set.

You know, God willing,
I cross that finish line,

and I get the job done.

[Waz] This is the guts

from the Egyptian
goose that we ate.

Bait ball, pretty much.

[Dan] Fish trap is huge.

I need to get it in order
tonight if it kills me.

Look at that.

[Waz] It's impressive.

[thunder rumbling]

[Jeff] Even though I
didn't find the goose,

I converted the
majority of my meat

from the first impala
on day two into jerky.

Butchering up this impala

with these awesome
survival knives.

This is, like, my
best friend right now.

Uh, and I've been
preserving that jerky

for weeks now.

So today I'm gonna
go on a little scout.

I know that in two days

we meet for an elimination
challenge of some sort.

[narrator] On day 36,

the remaining six survivalists

will face an
elimination challenge,

where one person
will be sent home.

Their task is still unknown,

but the location
where they will meet

is marked with a purple "X"

on the maps they
received yesterday.

[Jeff] So, as I map this out,

I want to find out
exactly where this fork is

on the map.

That way, if it is
a race to the "X,"

I know exactly where to turn,

and how many steps I
need to take to get there.

It appears there's
a storm moving in.

Any advantage
over the competition

is very important,

because the competition
at this stage in the game

is so intense and so close.

If there's an opportunity

for them to gang up on me,

they will. They absolutely will.

If I'm gonna beat

their group of five versus one,

I can't make a misstep.

And I know this.
And I'm focused.

So then that means
directly across...

should be the trail.

Good thing I scouted this now.

Excited about this, as...

I'm getting in
the water tonight.

That's pretty cool.

You know, it's taxing
when you have to...

when you have to try
to survive in-between

migration and everything else.

If my leg's not working right,

so be it.

I can't fix my leg by
just wanting it to be fixed.

So right now I
gotta rest my leg.

The most important thing

is to get myself better
to keep in the fight.

[Dan] Just gotta tie
this on in three points.

That's it.

Look at that [bleep] trap.

-[Steven] Cool.
-[Dan chuckles]

[Steven speaking]

[Dan] Throw this in the water.

I just saw fish
move right there.

Fish literally just hit the
top of the water right there.

So I made a trap that's
basically a big cage

with a funnel and a hole in it

that fish go into,

and you drop it down, and
fish enter and can't get out.

If something gets
inside of this trap,

it's weighted down with rocks.

It's a big trap, it's not gonna
move well through the water.

And it is tied to
an anchor rock.

-[Steven] Good job, buddy.
-[Dan] Thank you.

[Steven] Nice.

[Dan] Locked and loaded.

[Steven] That's good teamwork.

Good plan, good execution.

[Dan] Yup.

Check that early
tomorrow morning?

Yeah, hell yeah.

[thunder rumbling]

[Matt] It's raining like
a son of a bitch outside.

And there's no proper shelter

that we've gotten to be
able to establish on this.

But when you're
migratin' around,

it's tough to actually
have a proper shelter.

I'm sitting under a
tiny little bit of hide

that I stuck over my head.

And when it's out here,

and it's raining,
and we're 34 days in.

[thunder rumbling]

It is a mean thunderstorm.

So we are stuck in a
super-mega-death-storm.

I mean, literal thunder

ricocheting off
the canyon sides.

I mean...

"God bless the
rains down in Africa"

type stuff.

[Matt] Been raining
like a son of a bitch.

Looks like a doozy.

I can't see the
lightning flashes here,

but I definitely
hear the thunder.

[Waz] A vicious storm overhead.

It's... [sighs]

It's coming down.

Pouring rain.

Lightning, thunder.

Whoa.

[Waz laughs]

Here we go.

[Matt speaking]

[Dan whistling]

[Dan] Water out here is rising.

Damn. Rising fast.

It's not too long before it starts
rising into camp at this rate.

Hope the fish trap's okay.

[Waz] We had a fish
trap in the water overnight.

We've got to get
out to that Kudu skull.

Then we're gonna
make our way down

and see if there's
anything in this trap.

[Matt] Dan made

probably the largest fish trap
in Naked And Afraid history

out of the net that we found.

And Waz and Dan are
about to open this sucker up

out of the water, see
if there's anything in it.

With these flood waters
that came down here,

it may have messed up
these fishes' movements a bit,

but we'll see.

Last night, the water
rose about two feet.

[Waz] Can you believe this
water, how much it's changed?

All right, what have we got?

[Waz grunts]

There's a shrimp in there.

We caught a shrimp!

[Dan] Ooh, it's a good shrimp.

[Matt] Big ol' crawdad.

[Dan speaking]

[Waz] Yeah.

We can eat that for breakfast.

[Gary] Hey, Dan,
what you got here?

[Dan] Got a little breakfast.

Fish trap success.

Ah, look at that
thing getting all pink.

[Dan speaking]

Mm.

Mm.

That's pretty good.

That's actually delicious.

[Matt] Have a tiny bite.

Oh, I'm not gonna lie...

[Matt chuckles]

-[Waz] That is delicious.
-[Matt] Right?

Wow. This is so much
better than I even expected.

I could eat a bucket
of those in a second.

There is a nice,
little prawn that

I grill up over the fire,

and it might not seem like much,

but one prawn

fire-grilled,

fresh, like, still kicking
when you start cooking it...

Oh. And it's exactly
what I needed.

[Matt] I might go
out on a long hunt.

-Oh, yeah?
-I'm gonna go the rest of the day,

be gone for a while, so...

It's kind of
go-big-or-go-home situation.

You can see me on the other side

hopefully covered in blood.

[all laughing]

[Matt] Just, like, every step,

it hurts as I flex my
right foot forward.

So my leg is
definitely still injured.

Whatever I did to
it, I did a dandy on it.

Definitely makes hunting

a lot more difficult.

All right. So,

I just walked up to the
very top of this mountain.

And I'm a little further
than I've ever gone.

But I found a sweet spot.

There's water.

This is my shooting
window right here.

I'm gonna sit on 'em every six...

Probably, possibly,
for six, seven hours.

Only one more thing left to do.

Mud up. Block
my scent a little bit.

And also, get
myself camouflaged.

What I'm doing here is creating

vertical lines.

They'll block my
face as I'm moving.

I think that's it.

Time to get it on.

So now that I've
mapped out tomorrow's

route to the purple "X,"

now I'm going to

map out my path to

where there's this catfish.

I said, right at step 70,

it turns off to the river.

Maybe 25 steps to the water.

If I caught a giant catfish...

would I share it with
the entire group?

It would probably have to
be the length of this valley

for me to even
consider it, at this point.

They don't deserve a
damn thing from me.

Which makes me think
about my old bro, Steven.

He's kind of trapped in this,

uh, group of bullies.

But now, here, he's
turned his back on me,

and he's chosen his path.

And it hurts me.

This isn't teams.

This is an individual challenge.

All I know is that
I'm in a competition.

I'm fighting for
my life out here.

[Matt whispering] So
tomorrow's elimination day.

But today

is the time to seize the moment.

I don't care what kind
of competition it is,

I'm gonna be
feedin' some people,

because that is one of
those things that I love to do.

I am ducked in my blind.

It looks prime time.

[intense music playing]

[intense music playing]

[Matt bleeping]

[sighs] I tried to
thread the needle,

[sighs] and it hit the
tiniest little branch

-that blocked it.
-[snaps]

That's frustrating.

Oh!

Tiniest twig.

Hit a broadhead.

With the shape of a
broadhead, when you hit a twig...

It just... It just
so easily deflects.

[sighs wearily]

And hell, without a
doubt, this competition,

you know, there are times
I'm frustrated as hell out here,

but I'll tell you what, it's
keeping me on my toes.

Arrow flexes through the air

and when it flexed, it
just... [sighs] touched it.

Damn it.

[exhales]

Close.

[groans] That close.

[Gary] I'mma look around,
see what I come up with.

If I'm lucky,

I'll find some sort of resource.

A fruit tree.

A beehive.

A dead animal.

Pile of maggots.

Tomorrow's another
competitive challenge

between the six of us,

and we need all the
calories we can get.

See that tree?

Weaver bird nest.

I'mma see if they
got some eggs for me.

Oh, yeah!

This one's got some in it.

Three eggs. Oh, my gosh.

Mm.

Ah.

Mm.

[in Spanish] Delicioso.

[in English] Look at
that tree down there.

It's like covered in

weaver bird ornaments.

There's some more.

A beautiful blue egg.

I decide to keep this to
myself because it's competition.

Look at all those nests.

There's a ton. Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah.

I got 60 eggs in one location.

That's a lot of eggs
for a human being

in a survival situation.

So that should give me
some energy for tomorrow.

Mm.

Now that was a feast.

[wind blowing]

[Jeff] Well, on the
map, at least, it says

this is a good catfish hole.

The catfish hang
out along the banks.

Um, however, the water
level has risen and these...

These grasses are under water.

It makes it so difficult

to do any kind of catfishing.

[Steven] I've gathered a pretty
enormous amount of spekboom.

It's good protein
calorie reset for me.

It's got moisture in it.

It's got sugars in it.

It's got some vitamin C
in it, it's got some calories.

I would love, like, this with
a little bit of ranch dressing.

It'd be freaking amazing.

[panting]

-[Jeff] Hey, man.
-[Steven] What's up, buddy?

[Jeff] Oh, you found some, huh?

-Yep.
-Oh, whoa.

There's some...

When we were... I found, like, three
bushes when we were looking at...

-For the goose on the first day.
-No.

-Yeah. It's not great.
-Oh, dude.

-Wanna try some?
-Good find. Yeah, can I?

[Steven] Yeah, it's not...
It's not like good boom...

-Okay, well...
-...but it's boom.

-[Jeff chuckles] It's boom.
-Fills the belly.

[Jeff] Thank you, Steve.

-Hey, um...
-There should be more up there.

[Jeff] And... And thanks for
being honest about where...

-Where you found that. Would you...
-Yep.

[Jeff] Would you
like a teeny little

piece of, uh, impala jerky?

[Steven] Why, you
still have impala jerky?

[Jeff] Yeah, man, I've been
saving it for 31 days now.

[Steven] Mmm-hmm.

-[Jeff] Take these two nubs.
-I'll take the little baby.

-Thanks, man.
-Yeah, thank you.

[Jeff] Nice little...
Nice little hit, right?

-Yeah, yeah.
-Yeah.

-[clears throat]
-Yeah.

Oh, this whole thing's nuts too.

-[sighs]
-Whole thing's crazy.

Yeah, whole thing's crazy.

[Steven] This entire
"Jeff" thing, like, it's...

It's been tough. It's been the
hardest part of my whole journey.

Yeah, I think both me and Jeff,

both of us have kind of

done each other wrong.

I wanted to, uh...

I wanted to talk to you today

and, uh,

just wanna let you know,
this challenge has been

-tough.
-[Jeff] Yeah.

[Steven] And, uh...

You know, I know we...

We kind of went in

into this two
different mind sets,

you know, and two
different methods,

and, uh,

I think

it's led us both to kind of

butt heads little bit

on how we were going about it.

And, uh,

[smacks lips] I just
want you to know

if I said anything
that hurt you,

or did anything that...

I'm sorry, because as a brother,

I should never do that, so...

I do hope you'll
forgive me. And, uh...

[sniffles]

[smacks lips] I'm just
throwing that out there.

[slow music playing]

[Steven] I do hope
you'll forgive me.

And, uh... [sniffles]

[smacks lips] I'm just
throwing that out there.

[Jeff] Thank you,
Steve. Thank you.

I... I forgive you.

-I forgive you. I... This has been hard, bro.
-Yeah.

This has been
really hard, and I...

And I have to say too, okay?

My actions or my words,
whatever I did, they hurt ya,

and I'm sorry for that.

Thank you. I... I
forgive you too, Jeff.

Oh, give me a hug. Come here.

[Jeff] Love you, bro.

-I do. Genuinely.
-[sighs]

Even in these circumstances

with a $100,000 on
the line in a competition

and you know, the different ways
of thinking and taking on things,

you should never

hurt somebody.

In any way. [smacks
lips] And if they feel hurt,

you need to recognize that.

Let's put that
[bleep] in the past.

-Good day, day 35.
-Okay? Yeah.

-It's good.
-Let's make it good days

from here to the end, you and I.

We know this is a competition.

-Yeah.
-I'm okay with you competing against me.

-Yeah.
-You know,

on challenge day if
you jump ahead of me

and grab some token
and win the damn thing,

-you do it. You do that for you.
-No.

You do that for
you and your family.

-And you know I'll do it too.
-Yep.

-Competition's okay.
-Yeah.

[Jeff] Tomorrow is an
elimination challenge.

The greatest
survivalist out here

could go home tomorrow
if he has a bad day.

And we've been needing
to have this talk for 35 days.

It was so healing.

And I just feel like I have this
huge weight off my shoulders.

But we're both gonna
go about this challenge

the same way.

Tomorrow being elimination day,

I hope I don't go home.

If I do end up
going, I... I will...

I will go with my
head held high.

-That was good.
-That was needed. Thank you, man.

[Steven] Oh, thank you, too.

[exhales] Well,

nine hours I've sat

waiting for an
opportunity to happen,

and it didn't happen today.

The wind, it swirled around
every direction possible

and, uh, just kept everything
that was coming down at bay.

Without a doubt, it's...
It's a tough place for, uh,

not just your emotional
spirit but morale.

You know, I'm the savage.

You know me as the
guy that comes back

and brings so much food that
everybody laughs and has fun

and it kills me on the inside.

I'm used to being
an apex predator,

and right now, I'm
being an apex forager.

It's not good.

[Matt] My leg is killing me,
my back, my hips, my knees.

[Dan] Yeah, I'm sorry
to hear that, Matt.

[Matt groans]

[Dan] I hate to even
think it out loud, but...

[Matt] There's a
real good chance that

if this next, uh, elimination
challenge requires running...

-Yeah.
-...there's a good chance that...

[Dan] Matt, the
first... The last one did

-and you came in second place.
-Yeah.

-Like, way ahead of everyone else.
-That was a long run too.

[Dan] And you were
way more [bleep] up.

[Matt] That's
true. But [exhales]

it's still on my mind.

[Gary] Day of the
elimination challenge

and one of us is
going home today.

It's, uh, one of
those days that...

That weighs on the nerves

because I'm weak, I'm tired.

I'm feeling like my body
is just trying to recover.

[Dan] I have no idea
what's coming up today.

There's so many unknowns,
so many uncontrollables

that you just have
to let go and accept it.

And I'm totally ready for it.

I'm actually kind of excited
about what today might bring.

[Gary] So what knives
are you guys bringing?

[Matt] I'm bringing a machete.

-[Gary] Machete?
-Yeah.

-[Gary] I was thinking the same thing.
-Yeah.

[Waz] I'm gonna take
this knife just 'cause

I think between this
one and the small one,

uh, this is the most versatile.

It could chop. It
could do fine work.

Preparing for war basically,

getting ready for
whatever battles lie ahead

and getting myself in a position

where I can be as
unbeatable as possible.

Yeah, I'm ready for
this day to be over.

[Steven] I could have literally
spent my last night here in Africa.

I wanna stay in this.
I'm... I'm close to the end.

Crossing that finish
line is important to me.

[Matt] Looks like

all we have to do...

[Waz] Go up Kudu Hill.

...is just go up here, get
through that bush, right?

-Up that trail.
-[Gary] Okay. Ready?

-[Steven] Let's do this.
-[Gary] It's about to go down. Let's go.

[Matt] So my leg is
definitely still injured.

Whatever I did to
it, I did a dandy on it.

And I know that
today's gonna be painful.

Is it gonna hinder
me? I don't think so.

I'm not gonna let it.

[Jeff] I get nervous, I get
butterflies in my stomach,

I know that at any moment,

I could be eliminated.

But if I had to bet on anyone

to be the last one standing,

I'd put my money right here.

[Waz] Six of us are gonna go in,

five of us are gonna come out.

Don't know who that's gonna be,
could be me, could be any of these guys.

We... We never know with this
competition, how they're gonna play out.

I'm not gonna let my opponents,

I'm not gonna let the
other side push me over.

Um, I'm gonna do
everything I can do to win this.

[Steven] All right.

[reading] "To be the last ones
standing, you must master the elements.

Today you will use
your bushcraft skills

to transport and store a
precious survival resource."

[narrator] In order
to avoid elimination,

survivalists will embark

on a multistage water
transport challenge.

The first phase begins on a
stand of bamboo near the river.

There they will discover
further instructions.

Expertise in carrying
and storing clean water

is a critical survival skill.

Just test this to
see if it'll hold water,

and looks like
we're in business.

[narrator] Water is the
most precious resource

in any survival situation.

[woman] Oh, it tastes so good.

[narrator] Without
it, the human body

can only survive three days.

[man] We have to get
out of here very quickly,

or we're gonna
die of dehydration.

"Remember, you are all
competing as individuals,

so you must work alone.

The last person to succeed
will face immediate extraction

and be removed
from the challenge."

[Matt] All right, boys,
good luck to all of ya.

Good luck, all of ya.

[Gary] I see them all
jockeying and kind of positioned

to be in front of that
little running line.

I am the last one in line.

Holy [bleep]!

I'm out here with the
toughest of the tough,

the best of the best,

that's a reality of
it. It's time to move.

[Matt] You gotta take advantage
of every second you got.

[Jeff] This challenge is
unbelievably complex.

What I have to do right now

is run down to a
patch of bamboo,

find that first scroll
and try to find out

what to do in the next location.

[Dan] Definitely
a scramble race.

People are running around,
looking for little scrolls.

[Waz] I can't see
[bleep] in here.

[Jeff] Has anyone seen anything?

-Oh.
-[Dan] Yeah, Gary found one.

Where was it?

I'll find out. [bleep] hell.

[Steven] We're
competing as individuals.

This is a whole different
animal out here right now.

Got it.

[Dan] Yes, come on.

[Matt] To move on this
leg right now is rough,

and, uh, it's still a little
hard for me to find that scroll.

Oh, Jesus Christ!

[reading] "You
must use these reeds

to transport water to the gourd,

fill it completely

and craft a seal for the top."

[narrator] Survivalists
must utilize only bamboo

to transfer water from the river

into a gourd

located 300 yards
uphill from the riverbed.

[reading] "Here you'll find
a gourd to store water."

"Fill it completely and
craft a seal for the top."

"When your gourd
is completely sealed,

"claim one of the five
scrolls to avoid elimination."

I open my scroll and then I
see it's a transporting water race

and I'm, like, instantly, it
comes to me pretty quick

that, you know, bamboo has cups.

[narrator] Bamboo
has hollow chambers

separated by a solid ring joint.

When cut with precision,

these sections
are ideal for storing

and carrying water.

I'm trying to use the
sawback of my machete

as gingerly as possible,

making sure the
bamboo doesn't splinter

and using green
bamboo in particular

as green bamboo

doesn't splinter as
easily as old, dry bamboo.

Ah!

[Steven] I'm thinking
of the most efficient way

to get the job done.

I'm cutting the bamboos

so I have as many
open cylinders as I have

to transport as much
water as possible.

I don't wanna have to make
multiple and multiple trips.

[Waz bleeps]

[Waz speaking]

[Waz] It turns out that,
uh, it would have been good

to have saw on
the back of my knife

because the bamboo that I
cut is the dry, brown bamboo.

[Waz speaking]

If I try chopping
it with a blade

then it just splits open.
It doesn't chop at all.

This is a race and
someone's about to go home.

And, uh, it sort of pops a
little problem up in front of me.

I don't know what I'm gonna do.

[Waz] The bamboo that I
cut is the dry, brown bamboo.

It doesn't chop at all.

I realize there's green
bamboo there as well,

which is not as hard
and not as brittle.

[continues speaking]

[Gary] And I started chopping bamboo
right away, making up some little cups.

I only grab about four

and, uh, I head off

to go look for this gourd.

[narrator] With the
bamboo processed,

survivalists must choose

to either navigate
to the gourd first

or head to the river
to collect water.

Both locating the gourd
and utilizing river water

are essential to
avoid elimination.

[Jeff] This is crazy.

Uh, this is quite the challenge

with a lot of moving parts.

[Matt] This is a full-out
ready-set-go race.

[narrator] Gary, Jeff and
Matt race to the gourd

while Dan runs for water

leaving Steven and Waz
processing the bamboo.

[Jeff] Matt does have
a leg injury right now.

Honestly, I don't think it's
gonna slow him down much.

Matt will push through the pain.

I'm not underestimating
him at all.

What I have to do right
now is try to find my gourd.

[Matt] Oh.

[continues speaking]

[Steven] I see Matt chopped a
couple solid branches of bamboo

and then went off
to go find the gourd.

Uh, while me and a
couple other people

actually cut the
cylinders there,

tied 'em together, uh,

to make almost like a bucket
to take 'em to the gourd.

[Waz] This is a race and
someone's about to go home.

So, I'm not focusing on
the other people around me,

how they're doing,
who's doing what.

I'm just focusing on
myself and my goals.

My strategy for this challenge

is to try to minimize my trips,

minimize my movements
as much as possible.

[Dan speaking]

I'm just running on fumes
and adrenaline at this point.

[Waz] I think pretty
logically and clearly

in situations like this,

so I'm just gonna
get this one done.

[Steven] I go to the water
before I even go to the gourd,

so I can get my water first,
make one trip to the gourd,

try to fill it up on that one
and just be one and done.

[birds squawking]

[Gary] I think

going to

this gourd

in the map...

I can't say I'm sure I
know where I'm going.

[exhales] Jeez.

I never use a navigation
when I've hiked.

Well, I figure the trails.

Maybe there's a trail up there.

I'm trying to find a way
to punch up into there.

There's no real trails.

[bleep]

-[Jeff] Hey, buddy.
-What's up?

[Jeff] You wanna
share some info?

-About a gourd?
-Yeah.

-Did you find one?
-No.

[pants]

-Did you?
-No.

Did you look in the hills?

Not yet. I...

I'm trying to get to
the right location.

[narrator] To avoid elimination,

survivalists must use
their navigation skills

to find the gourd location

300 yards uphill
from the riverbed

in a thick stand of trees.

[Gary] Maybe
there's a trail up there.

[Jeff] Like, you're thinking
maybe we passed it?

[Gary] That's what I'm thinking.

Gosh, damn.

I know it's this direction,

but could be up
in the hill more.

[Matt] Leg still
hurts like a sumbitch,

it's still not moving
like it needs to be,

but I'm gonna have a hell of a time
hobbling around to not be eliminated.

I have no idea how
big this gourd is.

There are different
variations of bamboo

and this, without a doubt, is
not your Asian-specific bamboo

that's incredibly
strong and tough.

This stuff is a
little bit brittle.

I'm gonna tie 'em all together

in a nice, strong
knot, make sure...

Hope I don't have to go back.

[narrator] At this
point, all the survivalists

are searching for their gourds.

With Matt, Dan, Waz
and Steven carrying water

while Jeff and Gary
still have empty bamboo.

[Dan] So I'm looking at the map,

I can see the icon that
was on the map of the gourd,

and I take off running in
that direction as fast as I can.

Before I know, I'm running
and I look at the ground...

[breathing heavily]

Okay.

[narrator] Once
the gourd is located,

they must fill it
completely with water

using only bamboo.

Then mastering
their bushcraft skills

they must plug the gourd
creating a watertight seal.

[Dan] Ah, okay, okay.

I'm a little paranoid about
breaking the gourd when I cork it.

So, I want something that's
tough and fleshy to cork this gourd

and I know the cactus trees
around here perfectly fit that bill.

But I need a stem
that's still green

and just bigger than this hole.

And that's kind of hard to find.

Mm, I ripped the good part.

Finally I have it.

And this cork, it
works perfectly.

Okay.

And now I need to fill my gourd.

[Waz] I got some water
in the bamboo cells.

And I have a pretty good idea
just based off where the gourds

that was shown on the
map of where that would be.

I have explored that area a
little bit in the last few days.

Difference between
success and going home

is a matter of minutes,
maybe seconds,

but I'm running out of energy.

I haven't been eating
a lot of, uh, protein,

don't have a lot
of calories to spare

and this one's very
energy sapping.

I have a gourd right here.

[breathing heavily]

So the stick is just

if any water's trying to escape.

That water tension will just grab
one of the stick and go straight down.

Like when you're filling
oil up in your car engine.

Kind of full.

All right, I'm gonna
find a little stick here.

Once I've got my
gourd filled up,

then I've got to find a plug.

Um, I'm pretty much
just gonna use a stick.

Well, I just realized

I've made a pretty big error.

But I gotta whittle
down the stick.

I reach into my
bag to grab my knife

and I realize I've left my knife

all the way back at the bamboo.

[intense music playing]

It's not what I
meant to be doing.

[Waz] Well, I just realized

I've made a pretty big error.

[sniffs] But wherever I
chopped my bamboo down

is where I left my knife.

Just have to improvise,
adapt, overcome.

I've got to work with
whatever around me.

I can't run back
and get this knife.

So, I'm trying to make a plug

without a knife.

-[Gary] Steven.
-Found the gourds?

-No, did you?
-Uh-uh.

I figure there's gotta be a
trail up in here, you know.

-You full of water right now?
-Yep.

[Gary] Wow, nice.

[Steven] I think
this has got to be it.

-Here's one.
-Oh.

[Gary] All right,
this is my gourd.

I'll fill it down by the water.

Work smarter, not harder.

Why bring water up to this

when you could bring
it down to the water?

[narrator] In the lead,

Waz and Dan are both
looking to craft plugs

for their filled gourds.

Gary and Steven found
gourds but need to fill them.

And Matt and Jeff still have
not located their gourds.

[Steven] I'm filling it up.

I'm literally, like,
two cylinders short

of filling my gourd all the way.

I have mine almost full.

I should be able to fill it
up on this next one here.

To be able to leave
as the last one standing

would be incredible, you know.

I am the king, I am
kind of a big deal.

Like, you can't take
the crown off this guy.

[Dan] I've spent a little bit
of time trying to find this cork.

I spent maybe five, ten minutes.

I was the first one
at these gourds

and finding this cork
put me back a little bit.

Full.

[Gary] I'm going
up against the best.

I'm going up against
strong survivalists here.

[Steven speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Gary] I'm definitely
the wild card out here

and I'm always underestimated.

Uh, seems to foreshadow,
um, what I actually achieve.

And I know that,
I'm aware of it.

I asked for it,

but thinking outside
the box is key in survival.

There we go.

Now, I'm full.

Now how I plan on corking it

would actually be

a piece of greenwood

'cause greenwood is softer

and more pliable.

And, uh,

you know, more
workable and it'll stick.

Okay, now...

I might be up to something here.

[exclaiming excitedly] Oh!

[narrator] With
his gourd sealed,

Gary must now
backtrack to the Kudu skull

where he will need
to collect a scroll

to prevent his elimination.

Please don't show
this footage to my mum

'cause she'll kill me.

Using my teeth as a knife.

I got the right sized stick,

I whittled it down
with my teeth a little bit

so it was a little bit tapered.

I wrapped some leaves around it

and I put it in the... In
the top hole of the gourd.

I'm gonna give this a go.

I don't know if this
necessarily is gonna work,

but I've got spare water, so...

I tip that thing upside down

and no drips came out

and the task was over.

[muttering inaudibly]

[breathing heavily]

This one is mine.

[reading] "Congratulations.

You know you are
now one of the final five.

This gourd will prove invaluable

if you make it to extraction."

How good is that, people?

[breathing heavily]

[Matt] This is my gourd.

Okay. Now...

I've made it this far.

I don't know

if I have enough.

Enough in each one of these,

but what I don't
wanna do is spill any.

Oh, come on.

I've spilled a lot. Just
the way they're cut.

Oh, [bleep]!

My leg is messed
up. I can't move fast,

but I know if I
panic now, it's over.

I have to stay focused.

[continues speaking]

So, I was looking
in the wrong location

the whole time for the gourds.

And so I'm definitely
delayed right now.

And I might be looking
for the last of the gourds.

We'll see.

I'm scared because
I know I gave up

so many valuable minutes

with this navigational error.

I have mine.

I get an idea.

I'm thinking, "I'm just gonna
take the gourd to the river

and fill it right there with
one piece of bamboo.

It's gonna be super-fast

and then I can create a plug

out of green reeds and mud."

I think this is gonna be
the strategy that pays off.

[Waz] Danny, you finished?

-[Dan] Where's the scroll?
-Right here.

-[Dan] Good job, mate.
-Good job, mate.

[wheezing]

[Dan] Gary. How you doing?

[Waz] Good job, mate.

All right, my gourd's filled.

[Steven exhales sharply]

I see Waz up there,

I see Dan, I see Gary,

and I don't see Matt or Jeff.

And now it's like
down to the races.

[Dan] This is intense.
The two that it's down to.

[Matt exhales]

I'm pretty sure, you know,

I'm behind some of
the other survivalists.

-[Steven] Where's Matt?
-[Gary] Jeez, how the [bleep] would I know?

[Dan] It's just Jeff
and Matt out there.

A guy that deserves
to win this challenge

in every aspect

and the other guy that
most would agree does not.

[Waz] Oh, I don't know
what either of them are doing.

We're sitting here on
the edge of our seats

waiting to see who's gonna
come, just hoping it's Matt.

[Matt] Leg is slowing me down.

[Gary speaking]

[Jeff] I've now filled
the gourd with water

and I'm behind right now.

I have no idea if
Matt has finished

with his gourd yet.

[Matt groans]

The four of us,
we are just hoping

that Matt is next.

It is Matt. You got it, Matt.

-[Dan] Matt.
-Come on.

-You got this.
-Matt, run it in. Run it in.

-[Matt speaking]
-[indistinct shouting]

[Steven] You got this, Matt.

-[Gary] Matt, Matt...
-[Dan] Quick, just one scroll.

-Run it in, run it in.
-Yeah, Matt.

[Matt] My hurt leg has definitely
probably giving my opponents

a leg up on the challenge.

But it doesn't mean
they're guaranteed to win.

Nobody said a
winner can't hobble.

[Steven] You got
this. He's not here yet.

All he's gotta do is whittle
a stick, shove it in there.

Turn it upside
down, he's good to go

and Jeff's not in sight.

And I'm like,
"Dude, this is like...

He's gotta be almost done."

[groans]

-[Gary] You got this, Matt.
-Don't panic.

[Steven exhales sharply]

[Matt] Here we go again.

[narrator] For this competition,

the PSR or the
Primitive Survival Rating

weighs an individual's
survival skills

and items collected

to determine the
likelihood of becoming

the last one standing.

Yeah!

[Gary] Oh, yeah.

Weaver bird eggs.

[narrator] Gary was
the only survivalist

to locate a large protein source

before elimination day...

Look at all those nests.

...and outsmarted
his competition

to stay in the challenge.

His PSR rises from 8.7 to 8.9.

[Steven] Where
are you at? Hurry!

[narrator] Despite
attempted misdirection,

Steven found the
biggest protein catch...

Yeah!

Look at that goose, baby!

...cleared the air...

I do hope you'll forgive me.

Come here.

[Jeff] I do. I forgive you.

[narrator] ...and
avoided elimination.

His PSR climbs
from a 9.3 to 9.5.

Matt struggled
with his injured leg

and was unable to
locate the fishing asset

or bring down big game,

leaving him fighting to
stay in the competition.

[Matt] Leg is slowing me down.

[narrator] This
causes his PSR to drop

from 9.4 to 9.3.

To see all of the
survivalists' PSR rankings,

[exhales]

-[Gary] You got it, Matt.
-[Dan] Matt.

-[Gary] Come on.
-[Steven] You got this.

-You gotta go.
-You gotta go!

[Matt] Leg is seizing up
on me a little bit. [groans]

-[Dan] Don't panic.
-[Steven] He's not here yet.

[Jeff] If I can beat Matt,

then I can stay
in this challenge.

And that's my goal today:

to beat my greatest competitor.

Now, all I have to
do is get this up there.

You got this.

We're all biting our
nails waiting to see

who finishes first.

[exclaims in frustration]

Okay, push it straight on,
Matt, finish up, buddy, finish up.

[grunts]

-[Gary] Ah, man.
-[sighs wearily]

[somber music playing]

It's okay, buddy.

Just take your time now,
buddy. Don't hurt yourself.

[exclaims in pain]

[exclaims in pain]

[inaudible]

[Waz] Let's get you up.

-[Gary] Watch it, Matt.
-[groans in pain]

Oh.

[Dan] Matt's eliminated and
all of our hearts just dropped.

It's a powerful moment.

Ah, it's hard to see

someone you considered
family go out like that.

[groans in pain]

-Toughest dude I've ever met.
-Seriously.

[bleep] hell, man.

[Dan] He's so not dramatic
when it comes to pain.

And he is just...

-[groans in pain]
-...in agony.

In absolute agony.

You can see it all over
his body, all over his face.

[Matt groans] Ah, who'd
have thought, mate,

the savage loses on water?

-[Steven chuckles]
-[Matt] And a cork.

Water in a [bleep] gourd!

[groans in pain]

[exclaims in pain]

[Dan speaking]

[groans in pain]

Jeff, you're
probably not wanted.

[Matt] So, Jeff, uh, good luck.

It's, uh...

[sniffles] You know, I may not
respect you if you win necessarily

but I respect that you're
out here doing it, so...

Matt, everything
I've ever said to you

is because I respect
you as a competitor.

-Appreciate that, buddy.
-All the [bleep] I've given you,

every word I said

is because I respect you
more than anyone else out here.

-You have always been my greatest competition.
-Yep.

I genuinely love you, okay?

[Matt] Thanks, buddy. [groans]

I'd, uh... Ever have that

one moment to, uh... [sniffles]

To tell you guys how freaking
proud I am of you guys.

[sobbing]

[Matt] All of you,
every one of you.

And, uh, you're doing something
out here, something incredible.

There's never a last one, right?

There's never a last fight.

[Dan] You've literally been
an inspiration to all of us, Matt.

Thanks, guys.

All right, now, [bleep] this
sitting on the finish line [bleep].

Help me stand up.

[Dan] Yeah, sure. Come on.

[Matt groans in pain]

[bleeping]

[Matt] Ooh, she
burnin'. [sniffs]

Oh!

[thunder rumbling]

[Gary] There's your ride, buddy.
You're gonna be sitting down.

[Matt groans in pain]

[Matt] I'mma freaking
miss you guys.

-I'm proud of you guys.
-[Dan] Love you, buddy.

[Matt] 'Cause
I'm pretty positive

I've probably ripped
something in my leg.

It feels like an injury

that's gonna take a
couple of months to heal.

[exhales wearily]

-[Waz] Love you, man.
-[Matt] Love you.

-Love you.
-[engine starts]

[Matt groans] So here it is.

Yours truly, the savage.

Just got eliminated.

Leg hurts.

But it doesn't hurt.

The things that
I've accomplished

throughout my Naked and Afraid.

[woman yelps]

Jumbo warrior.

You guys ordered bacon?

I've taken on eight
challenges around the world.

[whispering] I'm
dangerous when I'm hungry.

Yes!

And I've done over
250-something days on these things.

Holy sheep [bleep]!

-Yeah!
-Whoo.

I'm not ready to go yet.

I don't tend to lose.

Savage strikes again.

I can hold my head up high

knowing that there was never
a day out here I took for granted

and I accomplished
incredible things while out here.

But in the end,

it's the little things that can
even take a legend down.

There's those little things
that you can't control.

I can't fix my leg by
just wanting it to be fixed.

My warrior spirit, you
can knock me down,

you can put me back,
you can eliminate me,

but you can never stop me.

I'll be back, stalking my prey.

-[effort grunts]
-Holy mother!

[Matt] Yeah, buddy.

-[Matt] Inspiring those around me...
-[woman exclaims]

[Matt] What's up, guys? [grunts]

Oh, hell yes.

[Matt grunts] and, uh...

[Matt] ...finding and hunting
down those epic moments...

We are kings!

...as a promise from
yours truly, the savage.

[Gary] That's hard,
man. That was tough.

-[Steven] That was tough.
-Who would have thought it would ever be like this?

[Waz] No. Never.

[Steven] He's just gonna
be missed, you know.

I mean, we were right
here at the home stretch,

five of us left,

head-to-head, every
man for themselves.

Best primitive
hunter on the planet.

And 100% class act in every
freaking way, whatsoever.

[Waz] This only just shows
what we're facing out here

and the different things
that can take you down.

Even if you are
the best survivalist

ever to exist, or
walked the Earth,

you can get taken down
by something like a...

Like a injury, a sore calf,

and an animal, a spider
bite. anything like that.

It just shows it could
be any of us any day.

You know, [bleep] it, man.

[Jeff] My toughest competition

was eliminated
from this challenge.

While everyone
feels bad for Matt,

I'm in this
challenge for myself.

Matt was not a gentle
soul to me out here.

And I believe that
this is his karma drink.

I hope Matt learns from it.

I'm not shedding
any tears today.

I'm celebrating,

because now I'm one step closer
to being the last one standing.

So now it's the final five

with nine days left to go.

This changes everything.
