Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing (2023–…): Season 1, Episode 8 - Class Three Warfare - full transcript

Matt's leg injury threatens his challenge. White-water journey strains survivalists and sparks conflicts. Camp dynamics shift, leading to confrontations between Gary, Matt, and Waz.

[Amber] This is different.

[Steven] This is something
we've never done before.

[Matt] You've got to watch your
back for not just animals this time,

but for the other survivalists.

[Jeff] Run!

[shouting]

[gasping]

[Narrator] For
the first time ever,

12 of Naked and Afraid's
most skilled survivalists

are competing head
to head for 45 days

in the South African bush...

Whoo! [laughs]

[Narrator] To crown
the best of the best...

Yeah!

[Narrator] And win $100,000.

This is what I live for!

[Narrator] Failure
means elimination.

[Gary] This
challenge is so real.

[Narrator] Who will be
the Last One Standing?

Previously on Last
One Standing...

-You guys ready?
-Yeah.

-Let's get it done. Let's do it.
-Let's go. Let's go.

[Narrator] The competitors took
on their first elimination challenge.

[Gary] We are charging
to survive an elimination.

[Jeff] This is what I live for.

[groaning]

[Narrator] Matt was
almost immediately hobbled.

[bleep] my leg is in pain.

No time to slow
down. Okay. [groans]

This is my trail.

Ha-ha! Got it.

[Narrator] Steven and Sarah
were competing neck and neck.

Yeah! [whoops]

I was so close, and
then Steven just comes in

and snatches my victory from me.

[Narrator] Leaving his former
partner to be the first survivalist

eliminated from the competition.

-You want to tell me what happened?
-I lost the trail and--

And ended up on mine?

Steven really [bleep]
me on this one.

Down to six.

-[Steven] It's all men from here.
-A lot of testosterone.

-Oh, God.
-[laughs]

[Jeff] Open that scroll,
baby. Open that scroll.

"Congratulations on making it
through day 28 and avoiding elimination.

You are now among the elite
few remaining in this challenge.

Your next migration will take
you to a new survival location

two miles downriver."

-[Waz] Woah.
-[Steven] Two miles? That's a long way.

Well, and also the
rocks and the boulders.

I mean, we don't want any
broken legs and ankles and crap.

[Narrator] Over the next four days,
each team must construct a raft

that can withstand the most
dangerous part of the Umzimkulu River.

If they can navigate
the class three rapids

and maneuver around
two-ton boulders in fast currents,

they will land in zone five.

[Matt] The elimination is over.
Now it's back to survival. [exhales]

Leg burns like fire.

Hey, hey. You look like
you're limping your leg.

-Yeah.
-Did you hurt it on this?

Yeah, on this way
back in the beginning.

Goddammit.

-[groans] -[Steven] Wow,
you're cramping good, huh?

Does not feel good.

Somebody get a medic over here.

[groans]

This adrenaline, it wore off
as soon as I crossed that line

and that's when
the leg really set in.

It hurts.

-[groaning]
-Leg is all twisted up too.

-Yep, yep, a little bit. Yep. Oh yeah.
-You have a leg cramp?

[Waz] Which part
of your calf is it?

[Matt] It's like the
whole... This whole back.

[groans] I just had
to keep running on it.

There was no way to stop, no
way to like, sit there and take it out.

So it... I'm assuming it locked
up extra hard because of it.

[Narrator] By continuing to run
while his leg was severely cramping,

Matt might have
torn his calf muscle,

resulting in long-term injury.

[Matt] Hope I didn't
[bleep] rip something.

[medic speaking]

Okay.

Oh, yeah.

-God gave me two legs for a reason, right?
-Yeah.

[Jeff] My biggest competition,
Matt, can barely even stand right now.

He clearly has injured himself.

I mean, I don't want to sound
heartless, but the facts remain.

Every person that drops out,
I'm one step closer to $100,000.

[Matt] This is some good
damn teammates here.

I got to say. Just competed
against them essentially

and they still got my
back. That's awesome.

[Steven] Matt's hurting.

As a brother, as a teammate,
I'm a little concerned.

But I tell you what,
out of anybody out here

he's my biggest competition.
He always has been.

So it just... It changes
the whole everything.

I could win this.

[snuffling]

-[Jeff] We made it, buddy. We made it.
-[Gary] Yeah, we made it.

It's just me and you.

[Jeff] I'm happy with
how things are turning out.

I think what I'm
gonna do here, Gary,

is I am going to
cut through this log

and save... Save this back
section for raft material.

-[Gary] That could be a smart idea.
-Okay.

We now have to build a
raft for the next migration.

The raft has to float
and we have to use it

to carry all of our
items downriver.

As a two-person team, it means
that we can build a smaller raft,

so that's going to
save us some time.

It's kind of nice only
having to run ideas

-off of one other person.
-Yeah.

[Gary] Sarah was
eliminated, so it's getting real.

If I had to guess who would
be the last one standing,

initially I would think Matt,
but now Matt's got an injury.

That's how this game works.

You don't know what's
coming around the corner.

-I look forward to having some good bro talk with you.
-Yeah.

You know, we've had to behave
ourselves with the lady in camp.

-Yeah, right.
-[laughing]

[Gary] Jeff's a game piece.

And I can utilize the game
piece for my own survival.

[Jeff] I'm gonna go find a cork
wood tree and chop the bitch down.

[Gary] Yeah.

[Matt] Oh [bleep] it burns, man.

-[exhales] -[Waz] You
might just have to baby that

for three or four days, man.

[Matt] I hope it's just a cramp
that got jacked up 'cause I ran on it.

If that's what I'm...
I'm still going for,

-best case scenario.
-[Waz] Yeah.

-[Steven] Hydrate up hard, take it easy, dude.
-Yeah.

We got another migration
coming up in three days.

What's that thing say again?

"Your next migration
will take you

to a new survival location
two miles downriver.

As a team, you must build
a raft to transport your gear."

[Dan] We absolutely could
use some of the bamboo.

-It's the best material out here.
-[all] Yeah.

[Matt] On the map,
it shows bamboo.

Bamboo is incredibly
light, but also very strong.

It's almost all air, very little
weight, and it's incredibly helpful.

We're going to harvest enough
bamboo to make an entire raft.

-And once it's dried out too, it's like, super light.
-[Matt] Yeah.

-12-foot length, you reckon?
-12 foot would be a nice raft for the four of us.

Let's just go get it.

I think you can sit that
one out, but we'll get that.

[Waz] We just want to
baby Matt as much as we can

until we get him in a place
where he's a lot stronger.

I don't want him out of the
competition because he has a sore leg.

I'm just gonna do everything I
can to get him back in working order,

so he can perform at his best, so
that when I beat him he's got no excuse.

-[Matt] All right, boys. I wish I could help you.
-It's all good, buddy.

Three of us is more than enough.

[Gary] I'm gonna go find
something to scavenge.

Me and Jeff got to build
a raft, but I'm starving.

I haven't eaten anything
substantial really in a while.

Just getting emaciated.

You get short of breath.
You have to sit down a lot.

It's exhausting.

Oh yeah. Look at that.

I found mulberries.

I decided to keep
these for myself

because it's not enough
to share, you know.

It's important to take care
of some things for myself

because down the line, we'll
probably be pushed into a corner

where we have to
compete against each other.

[Jeff] So I'm looking at
this cork tree right now

for potential material
for the raft build.

I think that this is gonna
be the ticket to buoyancy.

It's lightweight and
it floats well in water.

There is a limited number of
these trees in this environment,

so I'm going to harvest this now

minutes after we just got the
news that we have to build a raft

because that other group, they're probably
going to be looking for something similar.

Another benefit of
chopping this tree down now

is it's gonna be able to dry out
for the next three and a half days,

which will give it
more buoyancy.

I can't really lose here
gathering this cork wood.

-What's up, fellas?
-[Dan] You doing firewood?

[Jeff] Uh, collecting
materials for a raft.

-[Dan] Oh nice.
-[Jeff] What are you guys up to? Firewood?

-Firewood, raft, shelter.
-Yeah.

[Steven] I don't think
they're going to be able

to make it float with that wood.

If they don't build a raft out
of bamboo, they're [bleep]

Yeah. There's no way it's
going to float. Impossible.

[Waz] We see Jeff cutting down some
small branches and some weird stuff.

We asked him what he's doing
and he said collecting raft materials.

So maybe in his head he
hasn't put two and two together

and realized that bamboo which is
the best raft material known to man

is just down the
road a little bit.

And if he's not thinking that,
we don't want to give it away.

[Dan] Here we are.

Let's start mowing.

I think we're being really
smart about our resources

and our time and calorie
expenditure out here.

That bamboo is going to be very,
very, very light and great to work with.

We have the materials, we have
the knowledge, we have the people.

We've really, really set
ourselves up for success.

-Yeah, we're getting good stacks over here.
-Yeah, looking good.

Bingo!

If they're trying to use
that [bleep] cork wood,

I think we should just stash it
and not tip them off to the idea.

[Waz] Yeah, I don't want to
plant that seed in their brain.

[Steven] We could
put it in the reeds.

-[Waz] Yeah, in the reeds would be better.
-[Dan] Yeah, okay.

[Waz] We're going to build
a raft with the stuff we got.

It's hidden, so the
boys can't get it.

Yeah. Love it.

And hopefully if they build a raft
out of branches and cork wood,

then we're just gonna float on by
those people on the way to the next place.

That could be an advantage
to possibly get a head start.

Might be some caches
to find, maybe some food.

-That'll do it.
-[Steven] Yep.

I'm definitely being extra
cautious with this saw

after I nearly
chopped my hand off.

[sighs] Okay.

Oh [bleep] I need a medic.

I just cut myself pretty bad.

I understand that I'm deep
into a survival challenge

and I'm probably weaker
than I might think I am.

So being careful at this stage
in the game is very important.

I'm gonna take apart the
majority of this whole damn tree.

But I also need a
chunk of the real big tree.

This bottom chunk, this is
the part that I really want.

[tree creaking]

-[snapping]
-Woah, woah, woah!

I expected that.

One more big cut...

And then I got my
cork wood pieces.

[exhales]

Okay.

All right. This is great.

Nothing comes easy out here.

I've already got the
difficult stuff out of the way.

This is going to
work out perfectly.

-Hey, buddy.
-Hey, hey. How'd it go?

Uh, we saw Jeff
collecting raft material

Jeff was getting like,
big pieces of cork wood.

-Oh, he was?
-[Dan] Yeah. So we ended up stashing it.

-[Matt chuckles] -[Steven] It's
perfect. We can go grab it tomorrow.

[Matt] That's a
smart call, guys.

Oh, it's gonna be
prime time then.

[Dan] Now that we have
a strategy with the bamboo

and we're thinking 18
steps ahead of the game,

I think we're going to be in
good shape the next few days.

They're going to look
ridiculous if they make a raft

that doesn't... That
doesn't float them.

-Big, cork board thing.
-They'd be idiots.

-[Waz] How you doing, Matt?
-[bleep] burns, man.

-So it started as a cramp and you just
pushed through-- -Well, I don't really know.

I hope I didn't tear...
Tear something.

If I did, hopefully it
just gets better quickly.

[Matt groans]

[deep breaths]

[groans] Painful son of a bitch.

I'm pretty positive I probably
ripped something in my leg.

It feels like an injury that's gonna
take, you know, a couple months to heal

because she hurts.

[sighs] Oh man.

I think I slept about an
hour or two last night.

It doesn't want to pull
up. Still [bleep] hurts.

-It's like permanently tight?
-It's weird.

It's actually got some
kind of ball in there.

My leg still feels like a dud.

Feels like there's a couple
knives just stabbing into the calf.

And it frustrates me.

[sighs] I could just feel it getting
ready to like, do something

so I'm trying to
like, keep off of it.

Right now at this point in time,

I have to make
sure my body heals,

otherwise I will never make it.

[Waz] Here's the thing
that sucks if you have torn it.

You don't have the
nutrients in your body

or the proteins and
the minerals to mend it.

[Matt] Yeah, to help
mend it as much.

It's been seven or eight days
since we've eaten a proper meal,

so to get our hands on some
meat is gonna be a big deal.

Me and Waz, we're
going to go hunting.

And you guys will be hiding...
You guys will be hiding out

-in those little blinds you made?
-Yeah, yeah.

-Alrighty.
-All right, crew.

-Good luck.
-[Waz] Yeah, see you boys. We'll be back with some meat.

I hope you do. Embrace
your savage side.

Get it done.

-I'll just have to go up against some monkey for it.
-Okay.

These fruit, we see teeth
marks scratched into them.

And that's the nyala that want
to try and get into some of this.

It smells good to
them, it smells sweet.

So I've collected some of these.

There's a tree that I'm going
to go climb up and hunt out of

and I'm gonna put these
underneath that tree.

I'm going to break some
open so it brings that nyala in,

and once it's right
underneath me,

I'll just, [whistles] lights
out. I'm getting it with arrows.

Matt's obviously the hunter,
but I'm the guy that just is able

to just logically problem solve
anything that's in front of me.

So I'm setting up my blind.

I spent about an hour cutting
down a thousand acacia plants.

I got shooting window one,

shooting window two,

shooting window three.

This is usually when animals start
coming down the next hour and a half.

So they've been coming
down here to graze.

The wind is not
great for me right now,

but this is the best hunting
grounds we've had yet

and we need food. We do.

So Lord willing I'll be
able to have a shot.

But we will see. This is Africa

and these animals
are not dumb. [snorts]

[sighs] Let's do this.

[Jeff] We only have
a couple days left

to get this thing built,
tested and in the water.

So I'm gonna chop off the pieces
of these logs that we don't need,

the rotted parts, make them
a little bit more the same size.

[exhales]

-How's it going, brother?
-Good, how are you?

Good, man. Just getting
this thing a little organized.

-It's coming together good. You like it? Okay.
-I like that.

Jeff's badass. Jeff is a hard worker
and he knows what he's doing.

Here's what I was thinking.

These four how you got 'em,
and then bamboo across...

-Yep.
-...this way.

It'll disperse the
pressure like a snowshoe.

-For sure. Yeah.
-On top, right? So they--

Or even if I... If I laid down,

'cause if I laid down on it,
that would disperse my weight

-throughout the entire raft.
-I was thinking that.

That would probably
be the best way.

So I'm gonna finish
cutting the bamboo pieces,

and then the next step is
cut cordage from the hides.

And then, the step after that is
put it together down by the water.

It's got cork wood
on the bottom.

It's all tied together nice and
strong with cordage from our hides.

Gary and I are then going
to collect a bunch of bamboo

and put two large
bundles on top of the raft.

Not only will this add buoyancy,

but it will also
give us a platform

to put our items to get
them up out of the water.

-Hey, man. I mean-- -We're a
team of two, but we're doing all right.

[Gary] I'd say we are. Yep.

-[groans]
-Is it cramping up again?

Yeah, it wants to bad.

Right now Waz and Steven
are up there hunting in that field.

To sit here with my bow
hanging up, my arrows,

and having to lean against
the post to stretch my leg out

just so that I can
walk tomorrow,

that hurts. It does.

If I step wrong, it
is a bolt of lightning.

[Dan] Sometimes it's important to
rest or you risk getting out of the game.

Like Matt's leg for example.

Hopefully that doesn't take
him out. We don't want it to.

We want it to be about skill.

I don't want someone to go out

just because
they hurt their calf.

May the best, at
this point, man win.

[Matt] Right there.
I don't even know

how I stepped
differently, but [exhales]

-Good God.
-[Dan] All right, Matt.

[wind blowing]

So sitting up here in my
blind in my little hide in the tree,

right down there in those bushes

I can see two male nyala
and then the juvenile male.

Steven's down there in a hide
underneath those two acacia trees.

I'm really hoping he's
already spotted these things

so he can get
himself in position.

[whispering]

[exhales]

Come on, God.

[Waz] These things
'cause they're so big,

you really need to be about 20
yards away to get an effective kill shot.

If they can just get a
little bit closer to Steven.

That's it. Keep walking.

They haven't picked
up his scent yet.

Something magical
might happen here.

Walking straight
at Steven's hide.

He knows that he
can kill from that range.

That nyala is getting
extremely close to Steven.

[bellows]

[Waz] Oh, it's
turning perfectly.

Come on.

[Steven] Dammit!

[Waz] Oh, that might be the
end of our chances right here.

Maybe they smelled him, maybe they
heard him or saw him move a little bit.

[Steven] They just
barely stayed out of range.

The wind changed directions.

They caught my
scent pretty hard.

Oh, I needed like,
ten more yards, man.

Ten more yards, I
could have taken a shot.

[sighs]

-[Dan] It's still super tight?
-[Matt] It is a little better than it was before.

It's not good enough to... To
actually walk like a normal pace,

but it's allowing me to stand
when I pee. So that's exciting.

[Dan] We're working
on the raft today?

[Matt] Yep, get
ready to rock and roll.

I would like to not
make a [bleep] raft.

We're the A Team. We got
to make some good [bleep]

[Steven] Big day today.
We have to build a raft.

On my multiple challenges
in Naked and Afraid,

I've made my fair share.

In the Bahamas...

Teamwork makes
the dream work, guys.

Also in my Legends
challenge in Louisiana...

So I'm thinking two really
long pontoons like 22 feet

and easy lattice work, palms
on top so we could actually...

-You know, we're not falling through the cracks and stuff.
-[man] Yeah, of course.

-[grunts] Beautiful.
-[Steven] Whoo-hoo!

And the four of us, we built
just a badass raft in the Amazon.

[grunts]

But cruising down a slow tributary
in the Amazon is way different

than this raging monster I
got behind me over here.

There is white water in
this river, massive boulders.

So we need a good game plan.

We have to navigate
and because of that

it needs to be a
light, but fast boat.

Too heavy, and we find
ourselves getting stuck on rocks.

[Waz] We're building
this raft out of bamboo.

It's quite strong. We're
gonna build it really sturdy.

I think you wrap it up
in two separate bundles.

Tie it up, tie it up.

[Dan] Then flex them
backwards, tie 'em together.

[Steven] We want, uh,
two braces in the middle.

[Dan] This is like a white water
raft combined with a canoe.

I mean, it'd be dope
to white water raft

-down an African raging river.
-[Matt] Yeah.

-[Dan] Yeah.
-You know? Like, it'd be awesome.

[Dan] Make some paddles.

We got four of these.

These scapulas that I've
collected along the way

are gonna make
really great paddles.

-Rock star.
-[Steven] Good job, buddy.

[Dan] Shaped just like a paddle,

it's thin, strong,
and lightweight,

I've even carried 'em
from location to location

to use as shovels for the ground

and that kind of thing.

It couldn't be a more
perfect object out here.

And it's gonna look pretty
badass at the same time.

-Start the raft, boys.
-[Waz] Let's do it.

[Matt] I'm on paddle duty.

What I'm doing is
making a shorter blade

from a wildebeest,
and latching that on.

Having a bum leg kinda sucks.

You know, I'd like to get over
there and help the guys with the raft,

but at the same time,
it's still nice to be able

to actually have something that
is very important to make here

that doesn't involve
moving around,

and I'm glad to
be able to do it.

Pretty good looking paddle.

Perfect.

[Jeff] I think the
first step of the day

is getting maybe 75 feet
of cordage or something

-from your two hides.
-[Gary] Yeah.

Wheel that thing
down by the river.

-Yeah, we need to do that too.
-Yeah.

-So, let's, um...
-Start cutting some cordage, I guess.

Start cutting some cordage.

We're going to take all the
pieces down to the river's edge,

and we're going
to construct it there.

Then all we have to
do is gently pick it up,

put it in the water,
and we're on our way.

[Gary] That's it. You
keep tension on one end,

-I keep tension on the other, and we'll work our way down.
-Mmm-hmm.

And then, between your
cordage and my cordage

from my hides, we should
be able to lash this thing...

-[Gary] Yeah.
-[Jeff] Down by the river.

[Waz] Probably, like...

...that?

-Yeah? For the pontoon?
-[Dan] That's about right.

[Waz]

[Dan] We cut that
bamboo yesterday,

and that was allowed to dry.

So, that bamboo is going
to be very, very, very light,

and great to work with.

Yeah.

Is that not too thin?

That's, like, half
the size of that.

[Steven] I don't think so. I
think it's pretty good, actually.

We want two big pontoons.

Probably 24 inches in diameter.

[Dan] And I can kinda pull it
back, too, when I do the rest.

[Steven] So, we'll put
the spacer in the middle,

and then we'll bow in
the front and the back.

[Dan] 'Kay.

We want, uh, two
braces in the middle...

Yeah!

[Dan] Okay, that looks good.

[Steven] That looks good, man!

See? That is
stability right there.

After we tie both the
front and the back together,

the braces are
gonna add stability

by adding tension
to the two pontoons,

and then we're gonna
weave a floor underneath that,

which is gonna add more
tension and stability to the boat.

This is, basically,
gonna be a torpedo.

-[Waz] Yeah, that's pretty [bleep] solid.
-[Dan] Yeah.

Really gorgeous.

-[Waz] Yeah.
-[Steven] That's just really gorgeous right here.

[Dan] By the time water
pressure and stuff get in there,

it's gonna be, like, prime time.

[Matt] Pretty sure
that's a raft, boys.

-[Dan] Cool!
-[Steven] Hell, yeah!

-All round, yes!
-Whoo!

[Dan] We're gonna float-test
it tomorrow morning then?

-[Steven] Yeah! Hell, yeah.
-[Dan] Mmm-hmm.

[Gary] Okay, just stop.

Oh, [bleep]!

-Oh.
-[Jeff] It was weaker at the...

That sucks!

-[Gary] This is hard.
-[Jeff] Yeah.

It just... It's tedious,
and it takes a long time.

[Jeff] I do these
challenges for one reason:

because I always
want to be the best.

And it's kind of a little
agonizing right now.

I would love to
have this thing done.

I'm an over-planner,

and right now, it's going a
little slower than I wanted.

So, I am worried.

How much we got?

[Gary] I'd say about 50.

[Jeff] Fifty? Cool.

-[Gary] Now, let's just take a break.
-'Kay.

[Gary] I just wanna lay down.

Building a raft, you
know, with hardly any food,

it's pretty rough.
You know, you feel it.

And I'm definitely
losing mental sharpness.

It's... It's a rough
place to be.

[Waz] Yeah, boys. Maiden voyage.

[Dan] Wanna take
this down to the river?

-[Steven] Yeah. Hell, yeah.
-[Dan] Mmm-hmm.

We gotta go through
part of the rapids today.

[Steve] And then
see how it rides.

It's super important
to find out if it's sound,

it's built right, it's gonna
be able to handle the rapids,

it's gonna be able
to float what we need

and to handle the currents.

That looks like a boat.

Could try one
person on it first?

[Steven] Yeah.

Get on it.

[chuckling] Floats
one person pretty good.

Whoo! Heck, yeah, boys!

[Waz] Yeah.

[Dan] It's intense.

Get in the water, it
sinks a little bit lower

than I think the other
guys were expecting,

but the thing floats.

There we go.

-[Dan] Oh, navigating the rocks!
-[Steven] Yeah!

If we get our gear
back down there,

I think we'll... I think
we'll be doing just fine.

It's, uh, streamline,
it's stable.

You gonna walk down
to where they dock at all?

[Waz] Yeah, probably
should help them pull it out.

Stick it right there, yeah? To
the right of that rock in the middle.

[Steven] We were able
to test the raft today.

You know, we gotta be cautious,

we gotta do this the smart way

because this river's
not the lazy river,

you know, that you
just innertube down.

This river is dangerous.

I mean, I know firsthand.

There's another
big rock right here.

[Gwen] Yep.

[Steven] These waters
are moving incredibly fast.

It's easy to slip,
and once you slip,

you're going as
fast as that river.

-Straight ahead, but we're gonna wanna go that way.
-[Steven] Yeah.

[Dan] Totally insane. I love it.

But it was just, like,
traumatic at the same time.

I'm guessing their hearts
are skipping a beat right now.

Just keep it straight,
you'll be good.

[Dan] When you have one
person who's trying to steer it,

you can't really push
it in one direction

when it's going
around these rapids.

[Waz] Dig in. Dig in on
the left. There you go.

-Ohhh!
-[Dan] Oh [bleep]!

[Waz] You're all right.

Oh, oh, oh, oh!

Stay on! Stay on!

That's it, that's it, that's it.

Get back in,
Steven, get back in.

Whoo!

[Waz laughing]

Yeah, boys! Dig in!

Whoo! That's it,
that's it, that's it.

[Steven] To the
left. There you go.

[Dan] Whoo!

-Whoo!
-[Steven] Whoo!

-Yeah!
-Yeah, buddy!

[Waz] Yeah, boys!

[Dan] Whoo!

[Steven] We are the
A team for a reason.

It's one of the sexiest,
prettiest, most agile rafts

I've ever made on a challenge.

-That was intense, man!
-Yeah!

[chuckling] That was insane.

[Gary] What's up, buddy?

That's nice!

-[Waz] What's up, buddy?
-Does it support one of you guys?

-[Waz] Yeah.
-[Gary] Hey, what's up?

That was from bamboo
cane? [chuckles]

-[Steven] Ain't that cool?
-[Gary] That's pretty cool.

It's, like, a bamboo canoe.

[bleep] That's pretty crafty.

[Waz]

-Yeah!
-[Gary] Oh, dude.

That's really cool.

That is one righteous
looking bamboo canoe.

I saw the other guys' raft,

and I think if we
hit some rapids,

that thing could
maybe get beat up.

It's more tender.

It's more streamline, though.

[Dan] One, two, three.

-Perfect.
-[Steven] All right

-Yeah, buddy.
-Good job!

[Waz] Well done, boys.

[Dan] Considering all
we just went through,

it looks exactly the same.

We did it.

Got it to where we needed to.

It sat down a little
farther in the water

than we thought,
but it's durable as hell.

-It took a beating.
-Maneuvered.

-Maneuvered great.
-Maneuvered great.

We smashed into some
pretty good sized rocks

going at a good clip, and,
uh, she still held together.

So, that's a huge win for us.

Uh, we can sleep good tonight.

Uh, just focus on getting our
gear together in the morning,

uh, strap it to her, and, uh,
and head to the next location.

Paddle five!

-Whoo!
-Whoo!

[chuckling]

[Gary] So, I saw their setup.

-[Jeff] Okay.
-They left the bamboos super long...

[Jeff] Uh-huh.

...and made a bamboo canoe.

And then they cut a
bunch of short pieces...

-Yeah.
-...and put between it to make the bow out,

so, there's bench seats
and they got a paddle.

[Jeff] Interesting.

-It's pretty good looking.
-Wow.

And it's working, huh?

[Gary] It's floating.

-Dan and, uh, Steve.
-Oh, right on.

[Gary] They're
keeping it down there.

[Jeff] Oh, I see.

Yeah, so, they're ready,
like, down there tomorrow.

[Jeff] Oh, interesting.

Here's what I'm saying,

you know, by them parking their
raft away from their camp like that...

...someone could
theoretically come up...

...push it in the river.

[laughing]

Overnight.

And it's gone.

[laughing]

[Jeff] And then they wake
up tomorrow morning,

and what do they have
to do? Build another raft.

[Gary chuckling] Holy [bleep]!

[Steven] Our raft's
gonna be primo.

Is it safe or is it in
the sabotage zone?

[Matt] Yeah, I wonder--

[Steven] We wanna make sure
that we're not gonna go down there,

and it's just gonna
be a pile of sticks.

[Dan] Or, like, have some
lashings cut or something like that.

[Waz] Jeff will go cut
that [bleep] for sure.

[Matt] Yeah.

[Waz] Seeing what Jeff's done,

there's no honor or
dignity to what he's doing

out here at all.

It's, uh, worrisome.

As long as you, you know, play
by the rules, which, technically,

sabotage is allowed
in this competition.

And if they can't get
one built in one day,

will the whole team be gone?

That's a thought, right?

[Gary] It is a thought.

I can tell you, they
would throw me off a cliff

in a second to
gain an advantage.

And I know that, and I'm
gonna protect myself from that.

And you know what?
I might push them first.

[Jeff] By them parking their raft
away from their camp like that,

someone could,
theoretically, come up...

...push it in the
river, and it's gone.

That's a thought, right?

[Gary] It is a thought.

[Steven] We wanna make sure
that we're not gonna go down there,

and it's just gonna
be a pile of sticks.

[Waz] Jeff doesn't
have any access to it.

[Dan] But I think that
pretty much answers our...

-[Matt] Yeah.
-[Dan] ...our question?

-[Steven] Yeah.
-[Waz] Yeah.

[Jeff] You know what, Gary?
Old Jeff, he'd do that in a second.

[Gary laughs]

[Jeff] But I'm playing
this game differently

than how anyone thinks I am

or expects me to.

Them just thinking I
might do that already...

...you know, gives
me a little advantage.

-That's my strength here.
-[Gary] Yeah.

[Jeff] I don't care about
the other team at all.

My mind is absolutely focused,

100% all-in on this raft build.

We're building a raft, baby!

These are the things every
survivalist has to master.

I've learned a lot from all
of my previous challenges.

I made one in Louisiana.

Made one in the Philippines.

[shouting] This is
what I live for right now!

Made one in the Bahamas.

Made one in Colombia.

I've learned the
big risk with any raft

is when you get it in the water,

and the logs start
moving and shifting...

[Gary] Oh, yeah.

[Jeff] ...what was once tight
cordage becomes loose cordage.

[Gary] Oh, this
cordage is looking great.

I know. I'm confident
this cordage...

...will hold.

We're using dry cork wood
for the foundation of the raft,

which is very strong
and also floats very well.

[Gary] My end's
pretty damn solid.

Oh, hell yeah!

Do you wanna put the two sections
of bamboo on here, and then test?

That way, you can
be sitting on 'em,

and it'll look kinda badass.

[Gary] Heck, yeah.

We're gonna tie it all
together with dry bamboo,

and give it the
buoyancy that it needs.

Okay.

-[Gary] And then we tie 'em down.
-Yeah.

[Gary] Things are
getting real out here.

Tomorrow's migration
day, and we gotta hustle.

To finish out the raft, we're
gonna have to make sure

it gets our stuff there.

I'm always realistic,
and I'm not gonna say,

"Oh, we got this down
the river, that's nothing."

No. The river's gonna be hard.

Looks like it.

-Final steps, my friend.
-Yeah.

You ready?

[Jeff] Okay? All
right, it's yours.

Look at that. That's floating
pretty good right there, Gary.

[Gary]

[Jeff] Yeah, I know.

[Jeff chuckles]

[Jeff] Yeah.

I mean, basically, use
it as, like, an E-Board.

[Jeff] Yeah.

Yeah.

Yep. Exactly.

[Gary] Really... Yeah,
this is gonna be precarious.

The foundation
of our raft is a tank.

It's held together
with leather, strapping,

and big old logs.

I think it's gonna be rough
moving a tank down the river.

[Jeff] All right, cool, let's
get this baby out of the water.

I'm very confident that
our raft is gonna be strong,

durable, and it will float.

Awesome. I'm happy.

Good job, buddy.

-Think we did it?
-Yeah.

And our raft floats!

Ah, it floats, baby.

[Gary] It's gonna be
rough, but it floats.

[Jeff] Yeah!

Migration day, my friend.

We've got the best
raft, uh, possible, and...

[Gary] Yeah, that we could...
That we could make here.

[Jeff] Yeah.

[Gary] Once again, I recommend,
when you're behind that raft,

if it gets jammed up,

the current will
press you against it.

-Yeah.
-Don't think you're safe

-behind that raft.
-[Jeff] Right, right.

It's dangerous being in
front or behind that raft.

-[Jeff] Yeah.
-[Gary] Well...

Time to pack our stuff.

[Jeff] All these hides,
all these knives,

every possession I own out here,

these survival items
are intricately linked

to me getting to the end of this
challenge, stronger than anyone else.

All right, you ready, Gary?

[Gary] I'm pretty much
ready, man, as I'm gonna be.

[Jeff] I'm excited to see
what the next location holds.

I hope Gary and I can
stay in our partnership there,

but we'll just have to see what
the new rules are when we get there.

You rockin' and rollin'?

[Gary] Rockin' and rollin'.

Okay, today's the day.

Oh, it was a great decision to
move our raft down there yesterday.

We don't have to
spend the calories on it,

all we have to
do is cruise down.

[Matt] Heck yeah. It might be
a little slower than normal guys,

-but, I think we'll be doing all right.
-[Dan] You're all good.

There's nothing that says
I can't win this competition

even if my leg is messed up.

Savage knows no way but forward,

and I will continue.

I will keep going.

[Steven] Slow and steady.

[Narrator] With their bamboo
canoe already in place,

Matt, Waz, Steven and Dan

are taking their
gear over by foot.

However, Jeff and Gary

still need to move their raft
to the designated launch point.

Once there, the survivalists
will receive maps and instructions

about their two mile
migration down the river.

[Jeff] One, two, three.

[Gary] Whoa, we're in.

[Jeff] Now, we need to
position our gear on top.

I hope to be able to sit on it.

-[Gary] Okay, here you go.
-[Jeff] So...

-[Gary] Yeah.
-[Jeff] Beautiful.

Sail on outta here.

All right.

[Dan] How you doing, Matt?

[Matt] This is the furthest
I've walked in like, three days.

About every fifth step feels
like it might tear a calf in half.

[Waz] Matt's obviously,
uh, he's on a bit of a go slow.

We don't want him to
injure his leg anymore.

And we also need to get out to
the launch point as quick as we can.

Just hoping we get
there before Jeff.

[donkey brays]

[Matt] Where is the donkey?

[donkey brays]

Full steam ahead!

[Matt] Okay, that's a
different jackass over there.

Who wants to pop
some champagne, baby?

-Oh, whoo!
-[Dan] Oh, I see him.

-[Jeff and Gary whooping]
-[Dan] I see him.

[Jeff and Gary yelling]

Whoo!

[Matt] Their raft looks like it's a
catastrophe waiting to happen.

The square, you take a square
through these kind of rapids

you're gonna get hung
up on a lot of rocks.

You're gonna hit the
square edges of things

and you're gonna
capsize and flip.

And so, down here where all
those boulders are to the right,

that's where we need
to pick up our map.

[Gary] Our raft's
made out of heavy logs.

It's dangerous. We could
get sucked under our raft.

If you're in front of
it, it could hit you.

[Jeff] Okay, we--
we're about to go.

Turn right, we got a boulder.

Turn right, aggressive right.

[Gary] I don't know,
if we're gonna make it

our destination in one piece.

[Jeff] To the right.

[Gary] That's a big fear.

We're about to go over a rock

right here in front of us.

Oh, we need to go to the right.

We need to go to the right.

[Gary] We're hitting
rapids on a primitive raft

that barely floats one human.

We have five hides.

You get those babies wet, I think
that's gonna be, like, hundreds of pounds.

Oh, there's a rock right in
front of me, six feet ahead.

So, we need to go to the left.

[Steven] So you get to this
section here, that water picks up.

You're just gonna go from about
two miles an hour to about 15-20.

-[Waz] He's-He's coming off that pretty quick.
-[Matt] Oh yeah, he's-- yeah.

Oh, yeah.

[Steven] I mean, that-that high of a
center of gravity going that, that fast?

[Jeff] Okay, we're
get-- we're about to go,

to the right, Gary let's...

[Jeff] Oh [bleep].

All right, there we go...

[Waz] Oh, straight through.

-Straight through.
-[Jeff] Whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo.

Oh, this is nuts!

Oh, big rock.

Big rock. Oh!

Oh. Ah!

[Jeff grunts]

All right, big rock.

[grunts]

[Gary] All right, well...

the boat did exactly the amount
of crappiness I thought it would.

[Jeff] So, if you can get us unstuck,
I can get here and push back.

[Matt] It's now
hung up on a rock.

They've only got
a few hundred feet,

and it's already
turning into a challenge.

Okay, push, push.

Push.

[Matt] We've been playing this
entire thing like a chess game

and are trying to figure out what
we need to do to move in place

or a couple moves ahead.

And my doing that, we
moved our raft down already.

[Jeff] Okay.

Straight ahead.

[Jeff grunts]

Our maps should be somewhere around
here unless we just walked past 'em.

[Waz] Our map's
on the rock there.

On the rock to the
left in the water.

[Dan] There you go.
One for each team.

Take a look at this.

-[Matt] Moment of truth, guys.
-[Dan] Whoo.

-Got a hell of a trek.
-Whoo.

What's the back say?

[Steven reading] "This map will
lead you to your next camp location

and a new test of
your survival skills.

You all travel
downriver as a group."

[Dan] As one group? Or
this might just mean us?

No, I think it-it says
we leave as a group.

So, "You all travel as a group."

[Dan] Gotcha.

I got it.

New instructions await when
you exit the river at the kudu skull

[Dan] Okay.

-All right I guess we're joining up as a group.
-[Steven] Yup.

[Narrator] For safety reasons,

medics must be ready
to respond immediately.

So, producers and medical staff

have decided both
teams must travel together.

Each primitive raft will navigate
two sections of class three rapids,

with jagged boulders and water
speeds up to 20 miles an hour

to reach survival zone five,

signified by a kudu
skull on the map.

[Matt] We're now gonna have
to be stuck in the elements

-with Tweedledee and Tweedledum over there.
-[Dan] Yeah.

[Jeff] Straight ahead.

[grunts]

Oh, we're gonna get
stuck on a lot of 'em now.

[Steven] We have to stay
with Gary and Jeff which, um,

is kind of a bummer, because uh,

their raft is less of a
raft and more of like a,

a shipping pallet
with bamboo on top.

[Jeff speaking]

[Gary] Okay.

[Jeff speaking]

-[Gary] Yeah.
-[Jeff speaking]

[Gary] Okay.

[Steven] You can't
steer a square, you can't.

I mean, this ain't Huck Finn
cruising down the Mississippi.

This is Oribi Gorge,
boulders and-and whitewater.

So, I'm concerned. I wouldn't want
to sit on that raft, going through that.

[Jeff] We did it.

Holy moly!

Let's beach it right here.

All right.

[Waz] You made
it. Congratulations.

-You made it to the start line.
-[Jeff] Yeah.

Yes. All right, push.

Push, push.

-Push it in.
-[Steven] Yeah.

-Those rapids, man.
-[Steven] Yeah.

[Jeff] I built this raft

uh, the way I've built all of my rafts
on my Naked and Afraid challenges

and they've always held up.

But they've always
been in lakes, oceans,

slow-moving swamps.

This is a raging river.

[Jeff] Ah, all right.

Let's see where
we're going, huh?

All right, it says,

[reading] "This map will lead
you to your next camp location

and a new test of
your survival skills.

You will all travel
downriver as a group."

Oh, the time is now.

-Wow. So right.
-[Gray] So, we're going as a group?

Yeah.

[Jeff] Okay.

The challenge has
changed again, huh?

[Matt] Yup.

It's crazy.

Well, we're gonna need to
make some improvements

before we, uh, hit the river.

Those rapids, man.

Let's, uh, just make some
repairs and get it straightened out.

-[Gary] What, uh--
-What the heck?

-You should've made a better boat.
-Typically--

-You can't put your gear there, right?
-I'm disappointed.

-Matt-- -[Matt] That's
not very legendary.

That's the first thing you say
when we become a group?

As a group, I got to say, our-one of
our boats are not as good as the other.

-[laughs] -[Dan] One of
these things is different.

[Waz] One of our
boats is not a boat, so...

That's not a boat. I
wouldn't say it's a boat.

My problem with Jeff is he's supposed
to know how to do these things.

You gotta have
the skill first, buddy.

Not just items.

-Please, Matt.
-[Matt] You could drive a nice car,

-but it doesn't make
you, like-- -You--

-[Matt] Does it make you good?
-Matt--

I've spent time
with you out there,

and what I've seen,
has not been impressed.

I don't have respect for Jeff.

He just doesn't earn it.

I've seen boats.

-Hell, I'm a certified boat captain.
-Yeah.

-[Waz] The-- -[Matt] That right
there, is not seaworthy, my friends.

[Waz speaking]

[Matt] Yeah. Yeah.

I guess we should've made two.

[Gary] They had four
people to build their raft.

There's only two
of us to build ours.

They had more heads to
put together and design.

They could gather
a lot more bamboo,

even getting it in
and out of the water.

All right, we're good.

[Matt] If this was
competition day,

I would guarantee that Jeff
and Gary would be eliminated.

-[Waz] Let's push this in the water.
-[Dan] All right, let's go.

[Steven] One, two, three.

[Dan] There we go.

[Matt] I'll try to get in the
middle here somewhere.

[Gary] We're gonna wait a bit for them
because we'll-we'll hurt them with that.

[Jeff] Yeah, yeah.

[Gary] A 500 pound
raft is hard to control.

We couldn't send that thing
down behind them, it would--

it would smash 'em
and it would kill them.

[Jeff] This is really dangerous.

Somebody is
gonna get really hurt.

[Dan] Oh my God.

[Steven] This
river is kinda scary.

We got whitewater,
we got boulders.

It's gonna be a journey, and
hopefully we all make it safe.

Oh, that's some leg jammers.

Turn left, turn left, turn left.

[Jeff] Matt's coming in wounded.

Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Hit it good, hit it good.

[Jeff] A river voyage can be very
dangerous for someone who's injured.

[Matt] Oh, right side
rapid, right side rapid.

[Waz speaking]

[Matt] Oh, right side
rapid, right side rapid.

Turn right, right, right.

Hard-hard right,
hard right. Back from--

All right, straight through
the gap, you guys.

Dan?

Oh, left, left, left, Dan.

Only gone a few hundred feet and
it's already turning into a challenge.

-Oh, we're gonna be swinging around...
-[indistinct]

[Matt] ...because
we lost our back row.

I'm with three guys

who are literally helping
me because my leg is hurt.

All right, guys,
I'm getting out.

I don't want to sit there when
it's safer for us all the four

to be in the water,
controlling that raft.

-[Jeff] Let's not get injured. Let's take it slow.
-[Gary] Oh, yeah.

Slow.

I'm nervous.

This boat has to float.

"It's not seaworthy." [laughs]

I wouldn't take this thing
on an Atlantic voyage,

uh, but it floats.

[Gary] We're hitting
rapids on a primitive raft

that barely floats one human.

[Jeff] Right up here.

[Gary speaking]

[Jeff speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Jeff speaking]

Ah!

[Gary speaking]

[Jeff speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Jeff speaking]

[Gary] It's made out
of heavy logs, our raft.

So, it's dangerous
just to be around it

in the river, period.

[Jeff] Can you push
your bag up on to the raft?

[Gary] But we're gonna
have to hold onto that baby,

make sure it gets
our stuff there.

[both grunting]

[Gary] This is gonna
be a hard migration.

I don't know if we're gonna make
it to our destination in one piece.

[Jeff] Uh-huh.

[Gary] I don't know what
the rapids are like down there.

I'm gonna find out.

[Gary yells] Ahh!

[Matt speaking]

Ah, pinch in my leg. Oh [bleep].

Ohhh!

-[Steven] You all right?
-[Matt] Yup.

Just, what we didn't
want it to do, right?

Ah [bleep]!

[bleep] leg is
gonna be fat [bleep].

Whew, leg is gonna be back
to ground zero after this [bleep].

This leg injury is no
joke. It hurts like hell

But, I know today's
gonna be a painful journey.

[Dan] Immediately we realize the
rapids are stronger than we anticipated.

[Matt speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Steven speaking]

First set of rapids is a doozy.

This raft is hitting rocks hard.

It's getting stuck
on top of 'em.

If we're not careful,
somebody could get hurt.

Waz, you all right?

[Matt speaking]

[Waz] We're going
over these rapids,

hitting rocks underwater.

We're getting bruised up in
the backs, bruised up in the legs.

It's absolutely
brutal doing this.

We've only gone
about 80 to 100 yards,

and we've got two miles.

[Jeff] All right, are
we ready for this?

[Gary] Let's wait, because
I don't wanna harm them.

-'Cause it'll kill them.
-[Jeff] It'll kill them.

If we let go right now,

it would strike 'em, hit 'em.

-Somebody would die.
-[Gary] Yeah.

[Dan yells]

[Matt] All right.

[Matt] Yeah.

[indistinct conversation]

[Matt speaking]

[all grunting]

[Matt] Guys in three, back
end over, back end over.

Back end towards you, Waz.

Keep trying.

This raft, we get
stuck on a, on a rock.

The four of us,

we barely have to talk.

We can communicate. We
can get things off, unstuck.

One, two, three.

[grunting]

[Steven speaking]

[Matt speaking]

We're in a small eddy
right here, we're in a eddy.

After getting through
the first set of rapids,

we're like, hey, unscathed.
Boat looks fantastic.

Gear is dry.
Everything's ready to go.

Then we realize, we're
waiting on Jeff and Gary.

-[Jeff] We might not be able to control it.
-[Gary] All right.

[Jeff] Wait-- hold on, hold on.

[Matt] And their poorly
designed uh, thing they made,

is never gonna make it.

[Gary] Here, hold
those these corners.

Hold this corner. Now,
now don't get in front of this.

[Waz] Watching Jeff and
Gary bring that raft down,

not very maneuverable.

It's not very streamlined.

Looks like it could
get dangerous.

Pull, pull.

-Push, push, push. Push, push, push, push.
-Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, brother.

[both grunting]

[Gary] Oh, [bleep].

[Jeff] Yeah.

[Matt speaking]

[Gary yells]

[Jeff] We might not
be able to control it.

-[Gary speaking]
-[Jeff] Yeah.

[Matt speaking]

[Gary yells]

[Gary] Ah!

I went head down, feet
up for a while, underwater,

wondering when my head was
going to hit a rock and knock me out.

That God it didn't happen.

[Matt] Any one of us
could have just drowned.

More?

[Matt] This is no normal
Naked and Afraid migration.

We're getting beat
up by rocks and rapids,

and their raft is already
looking too rough.

Their gear's already wet.

[Jeff speaking]

Hey Jeff! I'll walk up there.

[Jeff] Gary and
I, we had no idea

that there were this level
of rapids on this river.

This raft isn't
going to hold up.

I'm just praying it
makes it to the finish line,

because all of these items I've
accumulated for the past month

are on this thing.

I have to get my items
to this new location.

[Jeff speaking]

[Gary] We wanna keep our
raft, but we can't control it.

It's plain and simple,
you can't control it.

So we have to take
our stuff off the raft,

and we have to
send the raft down

and then put it back on
the raft when it's safer.

[Dan speaking]

[Steven speaking]

[Matt speaking]

[Steven speaking]

[Matt] His raft is stuck on a rock
and he's stuck with [bleep] there.

Literally.

What's he gonna do
with all of his stuff?

[Matt] We're traveling
as a group now

and, uh, we're gonna
have to wait for them.

taking our survival

and, uh, stepping it back.

Three.

[Jeff] And then we'll
walk it all the way down.

[Matt] We're gonna be
here a little while, guys.

-You guys wanna-- -[Steven]
Tied to the reeds over there?

[Dan] This is why
you build a raft

that actually works and
can go through rapids.

[Waz speaking]

Yeah. Hurry up!

Come on, guys!

[Dan] This is a migration day.
We're getting to a new location,

We're gonna have to
learn the lay of the land

a little bit and
set up a shelter,

and get water
and that takes time.

And you don't want to be doing
that in the middle of the night.8

[Dan] Don't worry, guys. We're,
like, a tenth of the way there.

[Matt speaking]

[Gary] Wow, this is
really crappy behavior.

[Jeff speaking]

I'm gonna send it.

I'm just gonna go for it.

This river is terrifying.

All right. Ready, guys?

Looks like it's time to go.

[Matt] We got to wait till
they latch their [bleep] on.

It's gonna, like, make--

[Dan] Let's just get
down the next rapids.

[Waz] Our raft seems to
be holding up quite well.

[cheers]

[Waz] It's also giving
us a little bit of buoyancy.

We're able to hold
onto it, lift ourselves up

a little bit higher in the
water so we're not hitting

as many rocks or we're
not hitting the rocks as hard.

[Gary] One, two, three.

[Narrator] Both teams have
moved one mile down the river

but still have
another mile to go.

Already fatigued,
they must cross

the fastest moving section
of the class III rapids.

[Dan speaking]

[Jeff laughs]

-[Jeff] Well.
-It's actually making noise.

[Matt speaking]

[Jeff] That's all rapids.

This is the worst rapid.

Let's let them go.

I don't wanna put it
behind them, that'll kill them.

The raft we have would
kill you if it hits you.

I was telling Jeff we gotta wait

'cause we couldn't
send that thing down

behind them. It would--
It would smash 'em

and it would kill them.

Let's go, go, go.

Matt.

[Matt] Gary and Jeff are
just sitting there waiting.

You know, it's
frustrating as hell

because this day is turning
into an all-day adventure.

Go on.

Right there, guys.

Hey, Matt, you didn't
have to go there,

you didn't have to-- I
was actually being helpful.

I was being helpful, dude.

I was being helpful,
dude. I was being helpful.

I was being-- Matt,
I was being helpful.

Get your ass down it.

Go, go!

Get your ass down it.

Go, go!

Go!

-They have no idea how much we're looking out for 'em.
-[Jeff] Yeah, yeah.

This isn't too bad.

We'll stick to the right and
ease it down the whole way.

We're gonna push the raft,

it's gonna go
down the big rapid.

Do we wanna go down behind it

and, uh, and leave
our items on here?

-No. We-- We'll never make it.
-Yeah. Okay.

[Matt] We can't go to the right.

It's too shallow in there.

We gotta go all
the way to the left

down this path over here.

-[Steven] You sure?
-[Matt] Yep.

[Steven] All right.

[exclaiming]

-[bleep]
-[exclaiming]

[Dan] We're going through
this intense set of rapids.

I'm on one side of the
boat, Steven's on the other.

And I can see his face.

And he's just screaming in agony

over and over and over again.

His ribs are
getting hit by rocks.

[bleep]

[groans]

[Gary] We could
probably take off now.

[Gary speaking]

[exclaims]

[cheering]

Holy [bleep].

As we're going
through these rapids,

my body is like a rag doll...

...at the will of the river.

If Gary and I get our
fingers, arms or legs

trapped under one
of these boulders,

our bones will shatter.

[groans]

Oh!

[groans]

[Jeff grunts]

This is absolutely the
most dangerous thing

I have ever done on a
Naked and Afraid challenge.

[exhales]

[Gary speaking]

[Jeff speaking]

[Waz speaking]

Gary and Jeff seem to
be having a lot of dramas.

They can't keep
their gear tied on,

and they can't
stay on their raft

or-- or even with their raft.

Sometimes, their raft's
getting stuck on rocks.

[Gary speaking]

[Waz] So we're just pulling
over at the end of every rapids

-and waiting for them to catch up.
-[grunting]

[Waz] It's a long process.

-So we're gonna have to hold them spread out...
-[Jeff] Yeah.

-...as we go.
-[Jeff] I'm just tying them together

so we don't lose them.

[Waz] River rafting's
something I've done a lot

and you have to know
it's like a good technique.

We have a streamlined,
a nice, thin raft

so we can get
through the small gaps.

[cheering]

[both grunting]

[Gary] It's our job to keep
the bamboos under our bags,

so we concentrate
on that as we walk.

[Waz] We're definitely
feeling this journey.

The water's pretty cold so it's
sucking the heat out of our bodies.

We're losing dexterity in our
fingers and toes and legs and stuff.

And we've still
got a fair hike to go

and it's already
putting us to the test

so it's just one of those ones
we're gonna have to endure

and keep pushing.

[Narrator] Battling the
river for the last three hours,

both teams are now a
quarter mile from the finish line.

But there is one last
section of class III rapids

before the kudu skull.

[Dan speaking]

[Waz] Jesus! There's
just rocks up there.

The sooner we get
across to the left, the better,

'cause it looks like
there's a channel.

[Steven] Good.

-Push it left.
-[Dan] Got it.

[Matt] We need
to position that raft

in a way that hits
the rapids correctly.

By just looking ahead,

you can see if you got to go left
of one boulder, right of another.

We're executing the part

of those rapids in
which we know is safest.

I can see the skull.

You can see the skull?

-Oh, yes.
-I can see the skull.

[Dan] Oh, yes!

-[Waz] That rock right there.
-[Steven] Big ol' kudu.

[Matt] Big ol' kudu.

Boys, we just built
a hell of a boat.

-We did.
-Yeah, we did.

-But here on up--
-It held up perfectly.

This thing has travelled
two miles down the rapids.

-Yeah.
-In the middle of Africa.

Thank God.

Me and my team
killed it down the river.

Just, I mean, we're
beaten and broken though.

Leg hurts like a son of a bitch.

Right when I've been doing
so good with it, you know?

You couldn't do more to
an injured leg if you tried

than throw it into this
washing machine of a rapid.

It has beaten my leg down.

The leg's already injured,
now it's also bruised.

Hyperextended.

[Jeff speaking]

[bleep]

[Jeff screaming]

[bleep]

[both exclaiming]

[Gary] When we
hit the last rapid,

the raft, it just...
[whooshes] ...blows apart.

Jeff tries to salvage it

and float down on one
log with a bunch of bamboo.

I can't do it. I give up.

[Jeff] It's a bamboo fire
sale right now. [laughs]

Hundreds of pieces of
bamboo floating down this river.

But I can finally
see the finish line.

[Gary] Oh, my God.

I'm just holding my bag

and we're just drifting with
blown apart raft all around us.

Just trying to keep my head
above water because two pelts,

those things weigh as
much as me when they're wet.

It's just hell.

[coughs]

I'm weak.

Tired.

-[Matt speaking]
-[Gary shouts]

[Matt speaking]

[Gary shouting]

[Matt speaking]

[Jeff] Holy crap.

The rapids appear to be ending.

I can finally see
the finish line.

and I'm literally
holding on to my last

few pieces of bamboo.

The river's flattening out

and, oh! Gary and
I can take a breath

for the first time. [chuckles]

[laughing]

Oh, my God.

Making it to the end, I...

We went till the
wheels fell off.

Uh, I guess we went
till the logs fell off.

If we had to go any further, I
don't know what we would've done.

It was the most dangerous
thing I think I've ever done

in my life.

It was scary as hell.

We made it. We all made it.

[Jeff] This is what
I live for! [laughs]

Yes!

All right.

[Matt] What the [bleep]
are you celebrating?

I'm not talking
to you. [laughing]

[Matt] You guys are the
happiest failures I've ever seen.

[Matt] Gary and Jeff
no longer have a raft.

These two are lucky to
have made it out of this alive.

It's amateur hour.

-[Steven] Embarrassing.
-[Dan] It's...

[Matt] They call
themselves competitors? Ha!

-Not even close.
-[Matt] No.

-I could've done that alone better.
-Yeah.

[Gary] We're going down the river and
the other team's acting mean about it.

No cheering on and they just...

[imitating]

[Matt] I was asking
if you needed help

but you weren't listening.

Go on.

Right there, guys.

Hey, Matt, you didn't
have to go there.

You didn't have to-- I
was actually being helpful.

Matt's ego engaged...

Matt, I was being helpful.

...and so he didn't wanna
be seen receiving help

from us.

But it was me, it was Gary.

It wasn't Jeff, it was Gary.

[Matt] No, what was weird
is you won't [bleep] listen.

[Gary speaking]

All right, guys,
let's get outta here.

[Jeff] It might not
have been pretty

but every single one of my items

has arrived safely
to this new location.

[sighs wearily]

[Waz] You good,
Matt? Need any help?

[Dan] You okay, buddy?

[Matt] My leg was healing but,
uh, two miles of rough riding rapids

have dropped me
back down a little bit.

That's no worry.

[sighs]

[Waz] Stretch that [bleep]
out. Don't push it anymore.

Sorry, man, you have
to go through that.

All right.

[Jeff] I'm excited for
the new environment

and what's to come,
but I'm nervous

how the challenge may change.

"By choosing this map,
you've chosen a campsite.

So you will live in
two camps of three.

From now on, there are no teams.

You all compete as individuals
until only one remains."

It's based on the random skull
you have on the map you pull.

-I have, like, the waterbuck.
-[Steven] Wildebeest.

-And I have a curled horned one.
-So do I.

So mine has a wildebeest.

Steven has a wildebeest. Stoked.

Jeff has a wildebeest as well.

Not so excited about that.

Gary, Matt, and I.

Yep, Gary, Matt and I.

-Me, Dan, and Steven.
-Okay.

Okay.

Okay.

-It's a, uh--
-That's that.

[Narrator] In their pursuit
to be the last one standing,

the remaining survivalists
will spend the next ten days

in zone five competing
as individuals.

Tomorrow morning, they
will receive zone five maps

marked with new caches.

The next elimination
challenge is three days away.

-I guess today we just get to camp.
-Okay.

-Cool.
-Let's go look for a camp site.

Uh, I'll catch up if need be,
I'm just gonna grab my shoes.

I don't wanna tear my feet
up, they're all soaked and soft.

[Steven] I end up with Jeff

which I am, uh, not
super ecstatic about.

His whole entire
personality has changed

seven times on this challenge.

And sometimes,
you're best friends.

Uh, the other day, I was the
biggest bully on the planet.

I don't know which
Jeff I'm getting.

Ignore the [bleep] and, uh...

And you do-- You
play how you want

but my suggestion
is, from the get-go,

you shut down his [bleep].

Tell him, "Stop talking to me.

Listen, I'm here, I'm
sleeping next to you

'cause I have to. And the
rest of it's shut the [bleep] up."

[Jeff] Am I doing
something wrong?

[Matt] No, no. No, we're just
assessing to get our [bleep] off.

-[Jeff] Oh, um, can--
-[Matt] We're just, we're just--

Can I help you?

Can I start handing stuff?

-[Matt] No, we're just-
-[Dan] No, you're good.

-We're just staring.
-I'm right here, guys.

-Yeah, we're just--
-Here.

-Are you sure?
-[Dan] No, Jeff, we're fine. We're fine.

-Are you? Okay.
-[Matt] Yeah, yeah. It's-- Yeah.

-I mean...
-[Matt] It's just one of those, looking at...

Looking at our [bleep].

[Jeff] No, if I-- if I can
help, please, let me know.

[Dan] We're all good.

[Jeff] I have a
feeling that the others

are gonna ramp up
their attacks on me.

It's only evident that the
dislike for me is getting worse.

God [bleep] willing.

-Three days, another [bleep] elimination.
-[Steven] Yeah.

It'll solve our
problems in three days.

[Steven] Yeah, 72 hours.

[Narrator] For this
competition, the PSR,

or primitive survival rating,

weighs an individual's survival
skills and items collected

to determine the likelihood of
becoming the Last One Standing.

Steven was a leader
in building the raft...

[Steven] We want
two big pontoons.

Tie both the front
and the back together.

The S.S. Oribi
Gorgeous right here

Push it left.

...allowing his team to
successfully navigate class III rapids.

Boys, we just built
a hell of a boat.

[Narrator] This increases
his PSR from 9.2 to 9.3.

[Jeff speaking]

[Narrator] The raft that
Jeff designed deteriorated

before crossing
the finish line...

[Gary speaking]

...decreasing his
PSR from 9.2 to 9.0.

[exclaims] Pinch
in my leg. [groans]

Leg is gonna be back to
ground zero after this [bleep].

[Narrator] A leg
injury continues to put

Matt's challenge in jeopardy

dropping his PSR
from 9.6 to 9.4.

One, two, three!

[Dan] Ready? One, two drop.

No more teams. We're all
competing as individuals,

but we're going to be
living in two groups of three.

[Waz] What are you all taking?

There's knives
and stuff over here.

You guys taking 'em with you?

[Steven] Yeah, I got mine.

Steven, you want your
fishing line with us?

[Steven] Yeah. I'll take that.

[Dan] We have the greatest
arsenal of gear I've ever had

on any sort of Naked
and Afraid challenge,

and we're gonna share it equally,
and we're all on the same page there.

[Matt] To have a little
bit of dry left on this thing?

[Steven] Yeah, I
have a little bit of dry

-on my hide.
-[Waz] That's impressive.

-You did?
-[Steven] I'd say that's a success.

[Matt chuckling] Yeah.

[Gary] I'm camping
with Matt and Waz.

There's a lot going on.

Their behavior
coming down the river,

it hurts a little.

Do they have enough consideration to
care about what I must be going through?

[Matt] So I guess this is our
camp somewhere in here, guys.

Mmm-hmm. We got a
couple hours of sunlight left,

so we should be able to
make good work of this.

This is the first time
we've got to a new location

and we don't have a camp map.

It leaves a few
questions on the table.

How long are we staying here?

What sort of things
are gonna be on offer?

We have to wait
till tomorrow for that.

[Dan] Looks like a campsite.

-Here we are.
-[Jeff] Okay.

[Steven] Flat, pretty
good coverage.

A nice canopy, huh?

We could probably
right here, honestly.

-Right here?
-I-- I like this.

-Yeah? It's tight.
-Yeah.

-Fire right here?
-Yeah.

I know things have
been bumpy for 32 days

but we got two more weeks
to make the best of it, huh?

[Steven] Yep, sure.

-Always love you, man.
-You too.

I'm, uh, not stoked
about being with Jeff.

We were friends
for the longest time

and came out here,
he played a game

and tried to villainize me and--

and turn me into a bully,
into something that I'm not.

Get a fire going,
then cowboy camp.

[Dan] Fire loves chaos. Ow!

It's gonna be an
interesting campout.

Jeff lives in this
weird fantasy land

despite calling us all bullies,

and all of this stuff

that I don't think he
even believed himself.

He's just, I think, trying
to be manipulative.

Jeff has this weird way

of acting like everything's
just totally okay.

[Jeff] God, doesn't
it feel so much better

-when [chuckles] fire turns on?
-[Dan] Yeah, it does.

[Jeff laughs]

It just like, the
situation improves a lot.

So I'm gonna need some--

Set some clear guidelines
and expectations right away

before we start living together.

-[Dan] Hey, Jeff?
-[Jeff] Yes, sir.

[Dan] I wanna talk about
something really quick first.

[Jeff] Okay, shoot. Let's roll.

[Dan] Like,

-[Jeff] It's for the--
-I'm really not impressed

with how you play
the game so far,

and I don't wanna
be your friend.

-[Jeff chuckles] Okay.
-I wanna just like,

Okay.

[Dan] set some boundaries
there from the start, okay?

-[Jeff] I-- I appreciate honesty, Dan.
-[Dan] Yeah.

[laughs]

[Jeff] Honestly, I think
that's the first time,

maybe anyone's ever said
that to me in my life, actually.

[laughs] So, um,

yeah, yeah, I won't
try to, you know,

be your friend, or whatever,

but, you know, we'll--
we'll make it friendly.

They took things
next level today.

We all put our lives
in danger on that river,

and they were
laughing at Gary and I.

They-- they were
laughing at our struggle.

I've never, I've never laughed

[chuckles softly] at
anyone's struggle out here.

[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

[Gary] I understand
they don't like Jeff, but...

you don't talk to me like that

when I'm struggling
down the river.

Harass the [bleep]
out of Jeff all you want.

But you don't be
inconsiderate to me,

I'm not a second-class citizen.

I'm not one you're gonna just
push around and kick around.

[Matt] Might as well use
the fire to boil, I guess.

[Gary speaking]

[Waz speaking]

-[Gary speaking]
-[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

-[Waz speaking]
-[Gary speaking]

-[Gary speaking]
-[Waz speaking]

[Gary speaking]

[Matt] So I walked away
to get water, came back.

Waz and Gary were yelling.

[Gary speaking]

I'm being genuine.
I'm being real.

'Cause even your friends
could [bleep] with you,

and gotta put
'em in their place.

[Matt] Gary, just so
you know from my side,

and, uh...

-[Gary laughs]
-And, uh, so, I--

I come across--

[Gary speaking]

[Matt] And I-- And I come--

I come across and like,

-[Gary] I'm sorry, too, dude.
-[Matt] Okay.

-[Matt] Appreciate you, Gary.
-[Gary] Yeah.

[Gary] I-- I understand.

I'm not mad at him
now. It's all good.

[Matt chuckles]

[Gary] I bet you--

-I thought you were [bleep] with me.
-[Matt] No.

[Matt] Even though Gary and I,

we had a misunderstanding
on the river,

there's no hard feelings
between the two of us.

We understood that that
was the loud rapids talking

and the-- the
stress of the river.

-[Gary speaking]
-[Matt speaking]

[Jeff] It's the
morning of day 33.

Uh, I am supposed to have
a couple bunkmates now.

But as you can see,

Dan here,

he's over, uh, visiting
with Team Bully.

And Steven is
supposed to be right here,

and he's also over,
chilling with Team Bully.

[Steven] Today's
obviously map day.

-Today's obviously cache day.
-[Waz] Mmm-hmm.

And when it's elimination day,

when it's challenge
day, you know,

we brotherly contend
and, you know,

that's what we do.

-[Waz] Mmm.
-[Dan] Yeah, but--

[Steven] We are gonna be
more successful working together

-Yeah.
-to get this-- these done.

-Just like we have been from day one.
-[Dan] ...

[Steven] I mean, we're
right here at the finish line.

We got like, ten--
ten plus days left.

Like, we're almost there, so.

[Waz] I think, as
far as strategy goes,

-at this point of time in
the game, -[Dan] Keep it.

[Waz] we have zero
choice but all to go for meat,

if there's meat available.

We have to go for food.

We kind of should have
someone on Jeff the whole time,

because if he
finds the meat first,

-he might pick the bones up as he goes.
-[Matt] Yeah.

[Waz] Well, if he keeps
standing under a tree

and the meat's in that thing,

get up there and put hands
on and say, "It's mine."

So we've gotta work as a
team to get to that meat cache,

and just hoping we
get there before Jeff.

These caches
are integral for us.

[Jeff] We're all headed
over to that, uh, map.

-[Dan] Yep.
-[Matt] All right, let's do it.

[Waz] This one
especially is the one

that's gonna help
us to the finish line.

[Matt] Slow and
steady wins the race,

as they say.

[Matt] If I was to say,

I don't have any fear
of being eliminated

because of my leg injury,

I'd be lying to you.

[Matt groans]

I'm gonna have to perform
way better than anyone else

just to have a
chance of winning.

That right now, is
weighing heavy on my--

on my soul.

[groans]
