Is It Cake? (2022–…): Season 2, Episode 1 - Episode #2.1 - full transcript

[elevator music playing]

In 2022, millions of people
sat in rooms like this

and questioned their reality.

Is this cake?

Is that cake?

Am I cake?

-[music stops]
-[knife whooshing]

[people gasping]

Yeah.

Once again, we've assembled

ten of the best hyper-realistic
cake artists in the world.

I'm a little bit of rock
meets a little bit of Mary Poppins.

You don't want this.

[man] Opportunities like this
don't come too often

to people from Shelby, Mississippi.

I'm going in the oven.

[contestants cheering]

[contestants] Oh my God!

[host] Their goal is to fool our judges.

-[woman] Oh my God.
-Oh my God!

This is crazy.

To take their share
of a prize pot of $120,000.

-Whoa.
-What?

-[host] There will be excitement.
-Get out of my way!

Boom!

-[host] Laughter.
-[contestants cheering]

-Cut it up, Daddy!
-[laughter]

[host] Drama.

Give us more time, Mikey!

My face will haunt you.

[screams]

And most of all,

there will be cake.

[elevator music playing]

Mmm.

Blueberry.

Season two, baby.

[wind chimes tinkling]

-[contestants laughing]
-[woman] Oh my God.

-[upbeat music playing]
-[contestants exclaim]

[cheering and applause]

Oh, hello!

[contestants] Hi!

Welcome to Is It Cake?

[cheering and applause]

I'm Mikey Day,

-and look at you guys.
-[laughter]

The new class.

You're here
because you're the Michael Jordans

of baking cakes
that look like everyday objects.

[contestants cheering]

The GOATs.

Your guys' skills
could win you over $100,000.

-Whoa.
-What?

It's a lot. You guys ready to get started?

-[all] Yes.
-[Mikey] Let's do it.

Absolutely.

[Mikey] All ten of you

are about to play

-Find That Cake!
-[cheering and applause]

-[upbeat drum rhythm]
-[applause]

[tense music plays]

This will determine

which five of you,

yes, I said five,

will head to the kitchen
to compete for up to $10,000.

[woman] That's nice.

But...

This is a very big but here.

Every episode,
one of you will be eliminated.

[contestants gasp]

-[exhales]
-So by the end of the season,

the last baker standing will be crowned
the Is It Cake? champion.

-[woman] Oh my God!
-[cheering]

All right, it's time to find out
which five of you will bake today.

We are putting your cake radar to the test
like never before.

You have probably noticed
that the cake wall has not moved.

Well, there's a reason for that.

This living room you see behind me,

there's cake in there.

-No!
-[man] No.

-Oh.
-My gosh.

[Mikey] And you've gotta find it.

You will have 20 seconds
to write your answer on your tablet.

The first five bakers to find a cake
will compete today.

Your time starts now.

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

[Mikey] I don't know,
that pillow looks sus to me.

Fifteen seconds.

[tense music continues]

So many options.

Lock in your answers.

Five, four, three, two, one.

-Time is up!
-[bell jingles]

Okay, class.
Let's see how these newbs did.

[laughter]

Sorry, my remote, tissues.

Um, oh.

Here's my large knife.

[laughter]

-So, Kayla.
-Yes.

You picked the tissue box.

I feel like tissue
would be, like, going in the wind.

Anyone else pick the tissue box?

-Oh!
-[Mikey] Elizabeth.

What looks off to you about it?

So the tissue looks a little too solid.

-Yeah.
-[Mikey] Solid tissues.

I wouldn't want to blow my nose with that
if it was solid. I'm just saying.

Let's see if these tissues
really are solid.

Or, first time I'm saying it this season...

[chuckles]

[echoing] Is it cake?

[tense music continues]

Cut it. Oh my God, oh my God.

-Let's go, solid tissues.
-Stop, don't cut it. Cut it. No!

[contestants] Oh.

-[Mikey] No.
-[contestants] Oh!

Not cake!

Solid, crunchy tissues. Unh-unh.

Oh, cake.

-Come out, come out, wherever you are.
-[laughter]

What about this beautiful orchid?
Did anyone choose the orchid?

-[curious music playing]
-No.

Bite it. Just bite it.

Just for fun, let's see if this is cake.

-[woman] No way!
-[shocked reactions]

-[man] Oh my God!
-[woman] Really?

-[Mikey] Did that blow your mind?
-[woman] Oh my gosh.

-My eyeglasses are not helping me.
-I know.

Hopefully, for your sake,
there's more than one cake in here.

-Oh!
-[contestants gasping]

Anyone here pick the candle?

One, two, three, four, five.

-Oh.
-Oh!

Could this get our five?

-This is a big cut. I'm nervous.
-[laughs]

What about this candle, to you, says cake?

-One of the lines is not straight.
-It's not quite straight.

[contestants] Oh!

[woman 1] You can still light a cake.

-[woman 2] You can.
-[laughter]

Is this candle cake?

[tense music playing]

[contestants cheering]

It's a cake!

-[contestants cheering]
-[upbeat music playing]

[man] It's cake.

-[Mikey] That's cake.
-[woman] I love that color.

Give me some of that.

-There's still cake in here.
-[contestants gasp]

What?

Any guesses?

The ottoman. The ottoman.

-[chanting] Ottoman! Ottoman!
-Ottoman!

[all chanting] Ottoman! Ottoman! Ottoman!

Did any of you pick this?

-No.
-No.

Let's see. Is it cake?

-[contestants gasping]
-[woman] It is cake!

[contestants] Whoa!

[man] Love it.

-[Mikey] It's cake.
-[laughter]

-[woman 1] Look at that red.
-[woman 2] Wow.

-I eat things off the ground.
-[laughter]

[woman] Yeah! Woo-hoo!

It's actually delicious.

-Nice.
-[man] That's incredible.

No one hides from us, ottoman.

Boom!

[laughter]

All right.

Liz, Danya, Miko,

Corterrius, and Jarid,

you found a cake,

so the five of you will be competing today

-for up to $10,000.
-Woo-hoo!

The rest of you,
head over to the gallery, please.

Hang out, braid each other's hair, gossip.

Do not worry,
you will be baking in the next episode.

So now you get to chill. All right.

For the lucky five of you,
it's now time to play

Is It Cake?

[woman] Whoo!

-[upbeat drum rhythm]
-[applause]

As a reward
for being the only five to find the cake,

you get to choose what you make.

-Okay.
-Like, anything?

[Mikey] Yes.

-The power is in your hands.
-[contestant] Wow!

Whatever you guys want to make,

it must be something
that is personal to you.

Okay.

But you only get one decoy.

[contestant] Mm.

[contestants gasp]

Oh.

-Oh my God.
-[woman] Whoa.

[Mikey] To recap,

one cake,

one decoy.

That's so much harder.

That's bad.

We have flipped the script.

You have!

Yeah, flip the script back over.

[laughter]

Okay, bakers,

you'll have ten hours

to complete your cakes.

Are you ready?

It's time to bake!

-Oh, you guys can go to the kitchen.
-[laughter]

-Whoo!
-Whoo-hoo!

-[woman 1] Go, guys! Good luck!
-[woman 2] You can do it.

Okay, how much can I carry
in one go-around?

I know, right?

I am so frazzled right now.

Danya, tell us what you're doing.

[Danya] I am making something

that my grandparents used to sell
at the State Fair of Virginia.

It's those slippers
that look like big, puffy sneakers.

When I was a little kid,

my grandparents worked up and down
the East Coast at the fair.

They sold all kinds of novelty toys.

And it reminds me of the times in my life

that I feel like were so wonderful
with my grandparents.

This bowl weighs, like, 20 pounds.

I am making a brown sugar vanilla cake
with a chocolate ganache,

toasted coconut filling,

and some coconut caramel cookies
that are also in the filling.

I smell that caramel.
It smells really good.

I hope it's good.

I'm hoping that my cake
will look good and taste good,

but I'm competing against Liz,

who literally wrote the book on baking.

-Hi, Liz.
-Hi, guys. Give me the good vibes!

What you doing over here?

I think I have some, like, extracts
to choose from.

I'mma do oil.

That smells most like a lemon.

I know she's got this.
I mean, it's Liz Marek.

Like, she's, you know,
teacher, mentor. Ahh!

-She's a walking encyclopedia for cake.
-[Elizabeth] She is.

I started Sugar Geek Show,
which is an online cake decorating school.

I wrote a book on making realistic cakes.

Won a lot of awards.

I've invented realistic sugar eyes,
with Isomalt, to make realistic people.

This show, when I saw it,
I was like, "This is my show."

And if I can't win this, what am I
even doing with my life? You know?

Hey, Liz! What are you making
for your piece?

I am making a Dungeness crab.

Oh.

[Liz] I'm from the Pacific Northwest,

and I grew up crabbing
with my friends and family,

and I just thought that was something
very nostalgic to growing up in Oregon.

Aww.

[Liz] I feel like lemon goes
with the theme that I'm going with,

so I'm making some lemon cake.

I'm making a lemon buttermilk cake

with a raspberry compote
and vanilla bean pastry cream.

It's so hard baking

-in, like, a kitchen that's not yours.
-Right.

I barely remember where the stuff is
in my own kitchen.

Cake GOAT getting serious.
He done rolled up his sleeves now.

He done rolled up his sleeve.

[mixer whirring]

Y'all, my stuff over here mixin'.
It looking good too.

-[cheering]
-It's up there mixing good.

Let me taste it!

Meet me out back, I'll bring it to ya.

[laughter]

-Oh, so good!
-[exclaims]

Oh my God.

-Liz just told me my caramel was good.
-[Liz] Amazing!

-Oh my God.
-[Liz] How old are you?

Twenty-one.

I did not start baking until I was 27.
Just think how far ahead you are.

-Corterrius?
-[Corterrius] Mm-mm.

Cake GOAT. What are you making?

[Corterrius] I'm making a chocolate cake
with a banana filling

and a caramel drizzle.

-Ooh!
-Okay!

-I like it.
-Cake GOAT coming in hot.

I'm making a classic Sunday dinner cake,

with fried chicken,
mashed potatoes and gravy,

string beans, corn on the cob with butter.

You're gonna eat your dinner
and get some dessert on the side.

This represents where I'm from

because it is something
that you will see every time on Sunday.

I eat all the food up.

[laughs]

I'm going in the oven!

[contestants cheer]

-Getting stuff in the oven.
-[man] Cake GOAT in the oven.

[upbeat funk music playing]

[mixer whirring]

[Liz] What flavor cake are you making?

[Jarid] I'm kind of making
an orange-scented vanilla cake.

I'm making vanilla orange cake
with a mango curd

and a dark chocolate ganache.

What's the design?

So I'm making my grandma's
bright orange, fiery red pot.

It straight-up matched her personality.

Every Passover, she would make
a big pot of matzo ball soup.

Every time I cook with that pot,
I feel connected with her.

So is that what's inside the pot?

What I'm gonna do is, as if I was
preparing to make the matzo ball soup,

I'm gonna make all the elements.

I'm doing some celery,
matzo, onions, carrots.

That's so cool.

Matzo ball soup is so, so special to me.

It's kind of like my medicine.

I definitely learned to cook from my nana.

Every single meal she put on the table
was a part of her heart.

That's what cakes are.
Cakes are love. Cakes are joy.

You provide cake to someone
and it's like an automatic smile.

Finally got cake in the oven.

Oh my God, you guys are all...
You all have cakes in the oven.

-Don't you worry.
-I don't.

Miko! What are you making?

I'm making a basket of mangoes,

because Philippines is known
for our Carabao mango.

-I've never eaten a mango.
-[Miko] Really?

Oh my God.
You're missing half of your life.

[laughter]

The other half!

[Miko] Mangoes are a very big part
of my childhood.

I was six or seven years old,

our parents planted mango trees.

And every time they bear fruits,
we get a lot of baskets at home.

Baskets and baskets.

Miko. What are you doing?

[Miko] I'm actually doing ube cake,

which is, like, purple yam,
which is common in the Philippines.

I'm making ube cake

with coconut filling
and coconut buttercream.

My biggest concern about making this cake
are making the mangoes.

I need to make not just five mangoes.

I need to make at least ten mangoes
to fill the basket.

-[Justin] Oh.
-Uh-oh.

Mikey!

-I know you guys! Hi!
-[contestants] Hi!

-[woman] Holy cannoli.
-[Mikey] Bakers!

Guess what?

I have your decoys.

[upbeat music playing]

Liz, I just want to say
thank you for picking crabs,

because it smells like cake

-and seafood in here.
-[laughter]

Come on up.

Pick your decoys.

Remember, you only get one this time.

Oh my gosh. These look
almost exactly like my nana's pots.

It's making me so hungry, honestly.

I'm gonna run
and put me a piece in the microwave.

-[laughs]
-[Jarid] I like these guys.

[crab squeals]

[screams]

-Did it move?
-[man] Did it move?

It really did move.

[Mikey] It's still alive!

Wow.

How did they find
multiple giant, fuzzy shoes?

-There's a really big demand for them.
-[Mikey] Let's go to the fuzzy shoe store.

I've never been in any kind
of competition. I don't play sports.

The last competition I did
was probably Scrabble with my grandpa.

I am a cake artist and a content creator.

I do everything at home.

I have a room in my house

my mom has graciously allowed me
to use for my cakes.

I have also taken up
every other room in my house,

which I feel so bad about. I'm sorry, Mom.

-Oh my gosh, those shoes are so fun.
-[Danya] I know, I love them.

Whoo.

[Corterrius] Ooh, lookie there.

[Jarid] These cakes smell like heaven.

[Liz] It's a little crabby over here.

[Miko] Detail is everything.

If I can't get the basket texture right,

it's gonna be a disaster.

I don't wanna be the first person
to go home. Definitely not!

It's gonna take me like a week
to carve it by hand.

But given ten hours, I'm using the putty
to make a mold out of the basket.

Yay!

[Liz] Oh, that looks so good.

-[Miko] Thank you!
-[Liz] That's so detailed.

I want it to look as natural as possible.

That's the reason why I will vary
the layers and the shades of brown a bit.

[Jarid] I am rolling out
my orange modeling chocolate

to completely wrap around this pot.

Jarid has not looked up.

He is not minding us.

He's just like, "No one talk to me.
I am, like, super focused."

[energetic music playing]

I'm trying to paint my pot.
I'm spraying shellac on all the things.

Trying to make this pot
look as good as possible.

It is a straight-up marathon.

[Liz] Crabs and cake. Delicious.

I've decided to use modeling chocolate
to cover my crab cake.

Then I can start
adding the legs and the claws

and all of the details.

He officially has nine legs.

We're almost there, baby.

We have a lot of sharp edges
and bumps in very particular places.

I have this little wooden tool

that's able to help me, like, create
these planes of the legs and the face.

Sculpting a crab, and it's just like
looking back at me. [laughs]

I have so many details
to put on him still.

[Corterrius] Imperfection
is most definitely needed

while creating these green beans,

because not every green bean is the same.

I have a little razzle-dazzle,
a little everything going on.

I'm currently a senior
at Mississippi Valley State University.

My freshman year, I didn't want to be
the typical broke college student,

so I started my cake business
out of my dorm room.

I sold out the first day,
and the next day, my inbox was full.

I was like, "Yeah, I think
I'm onto something here." [laughs]

I just got a new idea.

What you gonna do?

-I'm gonna go over 'em with gelatin.
-[Jarid] Oh

To give it that wet look,
like they fresh up off the stove.

I want the green beans
to kind of look shiny,

so I take corn syrup and I kind of, like,
coat over. It's coming out pretty good.

Three hours left.

Batter hurry.

-[Justin chuckling]
-Oh my gosh.

[Danya chuckling]

[upbeat music playing]

[grinder whirring]

-Are you doing your flocking thing now?
-Yeah.

I'm attempting a new technique.
I take wafer paper,

break it up,
and I put it in a spice grinder.

And when you stick it to fondant,

it makes the fondant look like it's fuzzy.

This flocking is getting everywhere.
It's flocking ridiculous.

It's sticking to everything.

I am spending way too much time
trying to fix this

when I could be putting time
into more specific details,

like the grommets and the shoelaces,

which I think
are just as important as the texture.

[Corterrius] Just work with it.

-It'll come out at the last minute.
-[Danya] Yeah.

[tense music playing]

Two hours left.

-Are you starting to make mangoes?
-Yep.

[Miko chuckles]

[upbeat music playing]

I've been an artist 30 years.

Yes, 30 years. Very long.

These mangoes look incredible.
Look at these.

He's, like, layering on different colors
and different textures.

Looks like he's just sitting there,
just dusting a real mango.

[Miko] My parents were opposed
to the idea of me taking up fine arts.

They actually wanted me
to become a doctor.

My parents told me
that there's no money in art.

But that's actually true. [laughs]

So winning means a lot to me

because, finally,
I can make my family proud.

Miko, they said
we couldn't paint real fruit, man.

You're over there cheating.
Don't be over there cheating.

-[woman] I love it.
-[laughing] Thank you.

I don't think I've ever been so excited
about onions in my whole entire life.

I decided to use wafer paper
to create the onion peels

to try to get
that natural, realistic look.

I slightly sprayed confectioner's glaze

on the parts
where the onion peel was peeled back

for that real kind of onion shine.

-[Liz] Whoa, those onions look awesome.
-[Jarid] Thank you. This guy's finished.

I feel like I'm gardening.

There's just so much detail on this celery

that I'm gonna actually make
different colors of modeling chocolate.

Wow.

Nailed it. Once again, exact color.

I'm really hoping
that all the little elements that I create

are gonna fool the judges.

These wafer paper leaves
are taking a long time,

but I know it's gonna be worth it.

[Mikey] This is it.
Get it together, bakers.

One hour left!

Whee!

[laughs]

Guys, is this helping your bake at all?

It really is.

Making the shape of corn is difficult

because the kernels on the corn are very
specific. It's looking a little too flat.

I don't want it to look cartoonish

because I know that the judges are going
to immediately know that it's the cake.

Ooh, you're working on this corn.
My God. It's too square.

How about just doing round pieces?

-Like that.
-Look how more round that is.

-[chuckles] I'm gonna do what you do.
-Yeah.

Opportunities like this don't come
too often to people where I'm from.

Knowing that there is an elimination,
I feel like the stakes are very high.

I ain't come away from Mississippi
for nothing.

I gotta put my all into this.

I want that money. [laughs]

Hey, Liz, I appreciate it. I love it.

[Liz chuckles]

I'm the Cake GOAT,
and I'm gonna call you Cake Goddess.

Aww. Okay.

Okay. I love that!

[Mikey] Thirty minutes left, bakers!

Throw on that fondant, modeling chocolate,

the spray paint that you can eat,
cake stuff.

♪ This is when it gets intense
When they're finishing their cakes ♪

-Miko!
-Hi, Mikey.

[Mikey] Oh!

-No!
-Oh my God!

[suspenseful music plays]

-[Mikey] I'm okay!
-[Miko] Are you sure?

-[laughing]
-[Miko] Oh my God.

Did you see me take that fall?

[laughter]

Twitter's already reacting.

"My favorite part of the show
is when he fell."

[laughter]

[energetic music playing]

-[Liz] Are you getting the shoelaces on?
-Yes.

[Liz] Nice.

Five minutes left.

I'm getting nervous for you.

I'm working at a frantic pace,

worried the decoy is gonna look totally
different than what I actually have.

But I'm like, "Get it done.
You have to get it all finished."

-[Spirit] Liz, that looks amazing. Wow.
-Thank you, girl.

[Jarid] I'm mastering
my matzo-making technique,

and I think I got it.

One minute.

-Don't panic!
-[woman] Go, Jarid.

[man] Paint like the wind, Miko.

[Mikey] Miko!

[contestants whooping]

[Danya] The cake is still
looking shiny in spots,

which is the exact opposite
of how I need it to look.

I decide to add butter
to the top of the corn.

I know the details are important,
so I shape a piece of fondant

and put it on top of the corn.

It's gonna make it look
like a real dinner plate.

[Mikey] Thirty seconds, bakers.

[energetic music playing]

Do you have the glaze?

[Mikey] Five,

four,

three,

two,

one.

Time's up!

[cheering and applause]

Yes!

It's time to face the judges.
I wish you all the best of luck.

[dramatic music plays]

Bakers, you've completed your cakes

to fake out today's judges.

[cheering]

Let's meet the people

Star of Selling Sunset on Netflix,

actor and host Chrishell Stause.

[cheering and applause]

-Love you!
-[Mikey] How's the market, Chrishell?

It's slowing down.
Why do you think I'm here?

[laughter]

Actor, fashion designer,

and, I'll say it,
your favorite workaholic, Blake Anderson.

Wow, that's cool. That's cool. Okay!

And I'm told you're famously anti-pie.

Yeah, I'm way more of a cake guy.
I just... I'm not into pies.

It's like too many...

I was gonna say vegetables,
but it's fruit. Same thing.

-[man] Yeah, it is.
-[laughter]

He has a Netflix special called Immigrant,

actor, comedian Maz Jobrani!

[cheering and applause]

-[Mikey] I went to your Instagram.
-Yes.

-[Mikey] To see what was doing.
-Uh-huh.

So many videos, you're shirtless.

[whooping]

This is like
a fitness instructor's Instagram.

It's all angles,
'cause I'm getting older now.

-So you don't want to show this area.
-Right.

-So the cake will go here, but not here.
-[Mikey] Right.

[laughter]

All right, judges,
here's what's going to happen.

You are about to try to find five cakes.

You might find all five,
you might find none,

but at the end of it all,
you will decide today's winner

and which baker is eliminated
from the competition.

Up first, we have three incredible bakers.

Liz, Danya, and Miko.

-Incredible.
-[cheering and applause]

We are going to give you 30 seconds
to try and find three cakes

and lock in your answers
on the keypad in front of Blake.

-Yeah.
-[Mikey] Big responsibility, Blake.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm that guy, but...

[laughter]

All right, cake wall.
I've missed you. Please spin!

Okay, judges, remember,
there are three cakes out there.

Let's see if you can find them.

Your time starts now!

-[Maz] What? How are we...? Oh God.
-[Chrishell] Okay.

Okay, I'm trying to think
of how big real crabs are.

-I think they're bigger.
-[Maz] You're right.

[Chrishell] So Two would be cake?

[Mikey] Twenty seconds, judges.

-[Maz] Let's go with Two.
-[Blake] Okay, we'll lock Two in.

[Chrishell] Okay, Three or Four?

[Blake] That's impossible to tell.

-[Chrishell] What?
-[Mikey] Fifteen seconds, judges.

[Maz] Four is cake.

No, Three is, 'cause it's lower.

[Chrishell] They look the same.
I think Three is.

Okay, I'm going Three.

[Mikey] Ten seconds.

-Okay, we gotta go fast! The shoelaces.
-[Maz] Shoes.

[Blake] What brand of shoes are those?

Five looks cake-like, but maybe Six.

Six for sure. Six for sure.

-[Mikey] Five, four, three, two, one.
-[nervous yelling]

Time's up!

[cheering and applause]

God, I love that part!

-How are we feeling?
-[Blake] Not good.

[laughter]

Okay, judges, let's start with Liz.

You chose Two. Why?

I blacked out. I don't know.

[laughter]

Number One looks so perfect and beautiful

that it just seemed
like it couldn't possibly be cake.

That feels like it would be hard to create
a cake with those many bumps,

versus this guy is smoother.

Therefore, I think your choice was right,
Blake. Believe in yourself.

It wasn't my choice, it was our choice.
Don't throw this on me.

Well, let's find out.

Liz, if this is cake,

you are up for elimination today.

If it is not, you are up for the win

and could take home up to $10,000.

So this is an important cut.

[tense music playing]

No! Not cake!

[upbeat music playing]

It might be stale.
It's been sitting out a while.

[laughter]

Liz, congrats.

You are the first baker
to fool the judges.

Twitter, this is for you.

Ooh, oh. Look at that.

Whoa.

That is cake, right?

[applause]

[man] Amazing.

All right. Well done, Liz!
Let's go to Miko!

-[cheering]
-[Mikey] You guys picked Three.

Tell me why.

Kind of already doubting it,
so I don't know.

It's got that shine on it, so maybe
we were right. Maybe that is cake.

You look at Number Three, there's not
a lot of distance between the mangoes.

Feels like they're connected.

Therefore, thus, that's definitely
the connected cake is what I'm thinking.

Let's find out if the judges were right,

or if they're going O for two.

Is this cake?

[tense music playing]

Oh, look at that!

-Oh!
-[Maz] Cake, right?

That looks like cake to me.

-[man] Yes. Beautiful.
-There it is.

-[woman] Wow.
-I'm sorry, but yeah!

-[Chrishell] You did so good, though!
-Thank you.

[Mikey] So judges, you were right.

It's a very bittersweet feeling

'cause we're right,
but he's up for elimination. [laughing]

It is. You're like, "Yeah! Sorry."

-[groans]
-[laughter]

-Okay, judges, let's go to Danya.
-[applause]

You guys picked Six. Why?

Well, I feel like Six has,
you know, the shoelace,

which would be something you'd do
to throw us off.

So, initially, I was thinking,
"That can't be cake,"

but that might be why it is cake.

I just succumbed to peer pressure.
So if you...

[laughter]

If you yell at me loud enough,
I will do what you say.

[laughter]

[Mikey] Okay, Danya. Are you ready?

Let's find out.

Is it cake?

[tense music playing]

Oh, wait a second.

No. No. No, not cake!

[cheering and applause]

[whooping]

Congrats, Danya!

You fooled the judges
and are up for the win alongside Liz.

Well done.

Let's cut into this baby, shall we?

Oh, look at that, guys.

Oh.

-That is a gorgeous cake.
-[applause]

Well done, Danya.
How are you feeling? Okay?

Jesus took the wheel.
That's all I have to say.

-I looked at you. You were like... [panting]
-[Danya] I know.

[laughter]

Okay, judges, we've got two more bakers
who are about to try to fool you.

Up next, we have Corterrius and Jarid.

[cheering and applause]

We are going to give you 20 seconds,

because there's only two cakes
to find this time.

Cake wall, spin!

Jarid made a pot of matzo ball soup
with all the fixings,

and Corterrius made
Mississippi Sunday supper.

-Meat and three sides.
-Okay, wow.

Remember, two of the objects are real

-and two are fakes made of cake.
-Oh my God.

[Mikey] Let's see
if you can find both of them.

Your time starts now!

-[Blake] Oh, yeah. Here we go.
-[Chrishell] My God.

-Jeez.
-This is like metal.

How are we...? Uh...

-What about One and Two?
-[Maz] That's hard.

[Blake] That's a lot of work
to put into that.

[Chrishell] I know.
Between One and Two is hard.

[tense music playing]

-The butter. It's all about the butter.
-[Maz] There's butter?

[Mikey] Ten seconds, judges. Ten seconds.

-[Chrishell] Uh...
-[Maz] Oh, oh, oh! I think Four, for sure.

-[Blake] You think Four is the cake?
-[Maz] Four is cake.

-[Blake] Why?
-[Maz] Just the colors.

The way the vegetables
are sticking to the pan.

Lock it in. Five seconds!

Okay, what about One and Two? One is cake?

[Blake] Let's go with One.

[Mikey] Three, two, one.
Lock in your answers!

-Time is up.
-[Maz] One and Four. Okay.

[applause]

-[Maz] Okay. One and Four.
-Wow, that was crazy.

I hope you got me in slow motion,
because that was a buzzer beater.

That was cool.

[laughter]

Okay, judges, let's start with Corterrius.

You picked Number One.

[Blake] We did.

[Mikey] Tell me why.

It was the butter for me.
That screams cake.

Chrishell, what do you think?

I have no confidence in this, Mikey.
I'm sorry.

I kinda agree with Chrishell.
I think we should've gone Two.

-[laughter]
-I'm standing by One. I love my decision.

I can't wait to laugh in everyone's face.

[laughter]

All right, judges.
Let's find out if you were right.

[tense music playing]

-[woman] Could still be chicken.
-[Maz] Cake or chicken?

-That's cake!
-[Chrishell] It's cake?

-[Mikey] Cake!
-[Chrishell] Got it.

-[Mikey] It's cake.
-[Maz] Well done.

Oh, I'm sorry, Corterrius.

That means you are up for elimination
today, along with Miko.

But this is amazing.

Judges, what gave it away? I think I know.

-Blake, the butter?
-Butter, baby.

Looks like the butter on that one
is melting.

That's just kind of a tell for me.

Let's cut this butter.

[Maz] Wow! Look at that corn.

Yeah, baby, look at that.

You were right.

Look at that.

-[Maz] Yeah.
-[Blake] Delicious.

Corterrius, you did an incredible job,
my friend.

Thank you. Thank you.

Let's move on to Jarid. Judges.

You picked Four.

Why did you pick this one?

I'm super confident in Four

because I feel the celery
is kind of sticking to the pan.

And then the onion on Number Three
just looks very real.

[Chrishell] But this is
what's so confusing.

-The onions on Four look so real.
-[Maz] Yes.

[Chrishell] Number Three looks too shiny,
but the carrots on Four looks like cake,

and the carrots on Three look real.

-So I'm... I'm just all over the place.
-[laughter]

Judges, let's see how you did.

Come on now.

There was a lot of talk of onions
in this one,

-so I'm gonna cut the onion first.
-[Maz] Ooh.

Let's see

if it's an onion or it's a cake onion.

[suspenseful music playing]

-[Blake] That seemed easy.
-[Chrishell] Oh my good God.

-It's cake!
-[Chrishell] Wow.

[applause]

[Chrishell] That was amazing.

-That is incredible.
-[Mickey] Jarid, sorry, buddy.

The judges found your cake.

That means you're up for elimination
along with Miko and Corterrius.

All right, let's see more
of this very elaborate cake.

So I'll do my best.

-Okay. Oh!
-[applause]

-That's cake!
-[woman] That looks delicious.

Jarid, well done.
This is an incredible cake.

-Thank you.
-Very proud of you, my friend.

[applause]

Okay, judges, you're about to finally
taste all of these amazing cakes.

How good they look and how good they taste

is how you will decide
who will be today's winner

and which baker will be eliminated.

Ooh.

[Mikey] Okay.

[Mikey sings fanfare]

Judges, please come up
and inspect and taste the cakes.

[Maz] Whoa. Awesome cake, huh?

All right, we'll start
with the bakers up for the win.

Liz, tell the judges about your cake.

The cake is actually lemon flavored
with some raspberry filling and crab cake.

-[music deflates]
-I'm just kidding.

[laughter]

It's vanilla pastry cream.

-Holy moly, that's really good.
-[Chrishell] That is really good.

The paint job...
Is that what we call it? The paint job?

-That's good. Good job.
-It's awesome.

-I'm gonna touch it. Can I?
-[Liz] You can touch it.

-[Maz] That feels real.
-This is so impressive.

-You did such an amazing job.
-Thank you so much.

Danya, please tell the judges
about the flavors in your cake.

[Danya] It's a brown sugar cake,

and it has salted caramel,
chocolate ganache,

and a toasted coconut and cookie filling.

-[Blake] Wow, okay.
-[Maz] It's like Shaq's shoe.

-[Blake] Going big bite.
-Oh my God, that is so good.

The coconut adds a good texture.

Yeah, and it's got those salty accents,
which I really like a lot.

Thank you.

-Look at the texture on the shoelace.
-[Blake] That's what got us.

[Chrishell] Great job.

-[Blake] Yeah.
-Thank you.

Okay, judges, please move on
to the cakes you found.

Oh gosh.

[Mikey] Miko, tell the judges
about the flavors in your cake.

The Philippines is known for our mangoes.
The sweetest mango in the world.

-That's ube, huh?
-Oh my God, you guessed it!

And if it's not Philippine enough,
I added coconut white chocolate filling.

I love that your culture is represented.

You not only made me
want to eat your cake,

you made me want to go
to the Philippines.

[applause]

That is amazing.

Thank you.

-[Mikey] Corterrius...
-Oh my God.

[Mikey] ...will you please tell them
about the flavors in your cake?

Pack y'all bags, we fittin' to take a trip
to the Mississippi Delta.

[laughter]

[Corterrius] It's a chocolate cake
with a banana filling

and a caramel drizzle,

and we're calling it Banana Split.

Get down in there!

There's that butter.

-[Chrishell] Butter's amazing up close.
-[Maz] Gotta eat the butter.

You got so many flavors going on here.

Wow.

To get up close to this
is really, really impressive.

Yeah.

Last but not least,

Jarid, tell the judges
about the flavors in your cake.

I made a vanilla orange cake

with a dark chocolate ganache
and a mango curd.

This is a replication

of my nana's pot that she left to me
when she passed.

Mmm. What's the matzo bread?
What's that made of?

[Jarid] Yeah, the matzo
is made of gum paste.

[Blake] It looks so real. It's crazy.

She'd be very proud of you.
You did an amazing job.

-Thank you.
-[Maz] Yeah, it's incredible.

-So good.
-Amazing.

[applause]

[Maz] All of you.

-Okay, you've tasted all the cakes.
-[Blake] We have.

So take a minute and deliberate
which of our bakers will be our winner,

and which will be eliminated.

-[Blake] Mm-hmm.
-All right.

I'm still, like, astonished
that's not an actual crab.

These shoelaces actually have the texture.
I don't even know how somebody does that.

-La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
-[laughter]

For me, I could eat that all day long.

The mangoes, I just wish
that they were a little more realistic.

So much of this cake
is in the very small details.

I wasn't the biggest fan
of the flavor of the cake.

He is really able
to make a delicious cake.

If he'd been able
to put that celery in the pan,

it might have been harder to pick.

Okay, judges. Have you reached a decision?

-We have.
-Yes, we have.

Please write down the name of the baker
who will be eliminated.

[tense music playing]

All right, judges, I'll let you deliver
the good news. Who is our winner?

Well, it was tough because these were
both delicious. They were amazing.

The truth is
one of them tricked us earlier,

and then we came up close and it was
still tricking us and tastes amazing.

And the winner is...

-Liz!
-Liz!

-[squeals]
-[Mikey] Liz!

[upbeat music playing]

Congratulations, you just won $5,000.

-[cheers]
-Not bad!

[cheering and applause]

That means you will move on
to our Cake Or Cash? round

-where you could win another $5,000.
-[cheers]

Right, Danya, you can head to the gallery.

Hi, Danya, girl.

[Mikey] Okay, this is the hard part.

All of your cakes were amazing,

but unfortunately,
one of you will not be moving on.

[tense music playing]

I am sorry to say...

[tense music intensifies]

...Jarid, you have been eliminated
from the competition.

Miko and Corterrius,
please head over to the gallery.

You guys have been spared,
and you will live to bake another day.

Jarid, you should be very proud.
You made an amazing cake.

Thank you.

[applause]

[Jarid] I'm really proud
of all the work I did.

I tried some techniques
that I literally have never done before.

Please join the judges
up on the cake wall.

[Jarid] My nana really never saw
any of the cakes I made,

but I really do think
I made my nana proud.

Thank you, Chrishell, Blake, and Maz.
You guys crushed it.

Let's give it up for our judges.

[cheering and applause]

Whoa, you all right?

[Blake] This thing is way faster
than it looks.

Liz, we've reached
my favorite part of the show.

We're gonna play Cake Or Cash?

[cheering]

[dramatic music playing]

Okay, Liz. You just won $5,000.

-Nice.
-[cheering and applause]

You are playing
for a chance to win another $5,000.

-No pressure.
-Here we go, Liz. I'm rooting for you.

On the other side of the cake wall
are two safes.

One of those safes is filled with cash,

and the other safe is cake.

If you guess the cake, you get the cash.

You have 15 seconds, Liz.

And your time starts now!

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

[Liz] Oh my gosh.

[Mickey] Five seconds. Lock it in.

Three, two, one, lock it in!

Time's up.

[cheering and applause]

It's a rush.

[laughs]

[Mikey] Okay. Liz, you picked Number Two.

Why do you think that one's cake?

They both literally look so similar,

but there's, like, a very slight scratch
on the right.

So it's either there to fool me or...
I don't know. I just went with my gut.

[Mikey] That's all you can do with this.

Directly next to them
and I still don't know.

Okay, you said Two.

Let's see if you're right.

This is a $5,000 cut right now.

Ooh.

[tense music playing]

[screaming and cheering]

[cheering]

[Mikey] Cake!

Liz, you've just won another $5,000

for a grand total of $10,000 in one day.

Oh my God!

Congrats. How do you feel?

I feel amazing!

[Mikey] Well done.

Come here, girl!

The next five bakers who are competing,
the gallery gang,

get up here!

[cheering and applause]

Fresh face.
I hope you guys have been stretching,

because when this cake wall
spins around again,

you all are going to the gym!
That's right.

[cheering and applause]

You're going to the gym.

[cheering and applause]

[laughter]

[cheering]

[laughs]

[upbeat music playing]
