Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 8, Episode 6 - Cost to be the Boss - full transcript

Here, tuna, tuna,
tuna, tuna, tuna, tuna.

Right now in the Outer Banks,

the bluefin are plentiful...

The mother lode.

Big ol' herd.

Gonna get a bite out of that.

But catching
them comes at a cost.

Just to get out to fish,

we have a $900 fuel bill.

Woo-hoo!

One crew pushes their vintage
vessel to the limit...

Hold on.

We got so much money in this.

We got to catch these fish.

To make a coveted paycheck.

The weather's
gonna pick up in a bit.

And with
limited time to cash in...

It's getting bad.

We got to get out of here.

Still there?

The stakes
are higher than ever.

It's getting rough.
Woo.

We need to hurry.

This is...
Throw the dart!

Do something.

Dang it, we're in trouble.

Ah!

Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks.

Gonna make us a little cheddar.

Doghouse stays
dominant in first place,

as Offshore Outlaw falls closely behind
by a slim margin.

Fishin' Frenzy and Rasta Rocket
are neck and neck

in the middle of the pack,

while Reel E' Bugging,
Little Shell,

and Hog Wild trail behind.

We got to find that bluefin now.

Come on now.

Bluefin time.

There's some life right here.

Two pilot whales.

There's some life.

That's good.
There's tuna in the area.

Get our rigs back out and
maybe get on the right one.

The bluefin have arrived,

so we have to take advantage
of the herd being around.

Even though we've had
a good season so far,

we just got to keep pushing hard,

getting consistent paychecks.

You know it costs a lot of
money to keep this boat up.

Everybody out here is
trying to work together,

and share information,
and stay on these fish.

The more we work together,
the more fish we all catch.

They transferred 26
more tons to the quota.

All we got to do is get the right one.

We got this extra quota,

you got to take advantage because
these bites don't last very long.

So I'm just rigging up a
couple ballyhoos for trolling.

We like ballyhoos because they're durable,

they can hold up
against rough water pressure

and we can keep them out longer.

That's what keeps our bait costs low.

Bluefin love them.

Do a couple circles right here

and hopefully
we get the right one.

We got our fingers crossed.

There's the Reel E' Bugging over there.

I wonder if they're marking.

You never know what's going on
with that boat.

That's for sure.

Let's do this.

So you got rain, rough seas, pilot whales.

Oh, yeah, dude. That's Nick, right?

Hey, Nick...

You got pilot whales
right off your stern.

I don't know if you saw them.

Yeah, I got you.
Yeah, holler it out if you see something.

We're hoping these pilot whales
mean there's tunas here.

Because right now,
we need every single paycheck we can get.

When my old boat burned down,

it was financially devastating.

I had about 400,000 into the boat.

Currently, we're about 250,000 in debt.

Not only am I still paying off
debt from the old boat,

but now we're paying for a new boat.

Are we due or what?

Got to happen, dude. Got to happen.

- Here we go. Marks, dude!

There it is! The mother lode!

Brian, the mother lode! Right under me.

Come on.

Dude, they're up high, 80 feet.

Did you see him?

You should be going
over that mother lode right there, man.

Trying to get tight, Bobby.

- Come on, baby.

Get tight. Get you some.

Bobby's marking 'em right here.

He was trolling two minutes ago.

They're gonna be on the top.
Mark my words.

Come on! The minnow still out?

Yeah.
Good.

It'd be sweet to
get blown up right now.

We should be going
over the baits right now.

Come on now.

There it is!
What?

There he is! Fish on, boy!

We're on?
Yeah, that's him.

That's him. That's him.

Hey, we're tight
right here, Frenzy.

Good luck, Bobby.
Woo!

The Reel E' Bugging is hooked up.

We're gonna get a good mark.

The fish are biting right here

and I hope we can get on
one of Bobby's cheerleaders.

♪ We need a fish, yes ♪

Good luck, Bobby.

You'll get 'em, Bobby.

We got our fingers crossed for you.

Hopefully he'll stay put.

Let's try to circle up and get us one.

See if we can't pull us one out.

That'd be nice.

Bedbugs is hooked
up right next to us.

Maybe we're next.

I'd like to get a big blue one, come on.

We've been here before.

You've got to turn the other way.
Still on?

No, he ain't gone, but.
He's gone?

No, but he's really flat, bro.

Really, really flat.

Let me straighten us out.

Straighten us out.
Let's get the under control, bro.

He got so stretched out.

I don't know if he's there or not.

Good God. What is he doing?

He still hasn't slowed down.

I know it.

I really don't know what's
going on over there.

When you get a bite
you need to go to your fish.

He just keeps on driving, pulling gear.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

They could just be
doing their morning workout.

The line just got slack.

Still there?

I don't know. Don't feel like it.

Get the other one in, Drew.

Bro.

He don't seem like he's there.
I don't think he's there.

It's gone. He got so stretched out.

Yeah, that was him. We got smoked.

It got really, really stretched out.

Just came undone.

All right, guys,
let's just reel them up.

We have the entire fleet
watching us right now.

Let's just get out of this circus.

We lost him.

We're gonna try our luck a little
further north. Good luck, boys.

So Bedbugs is hooked up.

He lost him, I think.

He never slowed down.
He never turned around.

He never took it out of gear.

Yeah, I didn't
know what he was doing.

I've never really been
around him when he had a bite.

That explains it.

Not catching, you're fishing.

This is right about
where Bobby hooked his.

We're in the right spot.

We just got to keep pounding
it and wait for our turn.

I hate to see another boat lose a fish.

We're all competing against each other,

but it's one less paycheck for Bobby.

It's something that all
the captains stress about.

Being a bluefin fisherman,

bills are constantly piling up.

We got so much money in this.

We got to catch this fish.

Gas, tackle, slip rent.

That's why we might have to
start taking bigger risk

just to get our money back.

We'll get 'em.

Got to have faith.

Let's show
these boys how it's done.

How deep would you like
to try to get this one?

Mark's been down there
about 20 fathoms.

We're marking a lot of fish down deep.

We're gonna try to
drop down a mackerel

because they're not coming up
biting the trolling baits.

So we're gonna drop down
to where they're at,

see if they won't bite it.

We're on a hot streak right now.

And the best advantage we have
is getting a big lead early on.

So, right now, we're
fishing at "The Point".

The fish that have been in
here are fattier

and we've been getting
a better price for them.

We also need more bluefin so that
we can make a big profit this season.

It's gonna cost me $800 just
to come out for this trip.

So we need big money tunas
to pay the bills and win the game.

Seeing any stuff, Frenzy?

I am.

Plenty of stuff.

Pretty good?

I don't think it's the stuff
we're looking for though.

Hopefully the weather is gonna
hold up today. It looks okay...

Close enough to several bites.
Just not my turn.

I know the feeling.

Boys, what we do is called
fishing, not catching.

You'll get 'em.

We end up making more
per bluefin than the bigger boats

because our small boat
keeps the expenses low.

But however,

we have less days on the water

because we can't be out in rough weather.

So we got to catch now
while the weather is good

so can make a paycheck.

Right now, we're desperate.

There's us a real mark right there.

Come on, baby, give us a bite.

Look at that.
We're marking one, guys.

Oh, oh, oh. Fish on!

Got him on the rod.
Something's on.

Feel like he's got any weight?

Really feels kind of weird.

Feels sharky?

Not a lot of
fight to it like a shark.

I don't know what it is.

Maybe we're getting lucky here.

Come on, baby.

We ain't got much more time
before the bad weather gets here.

Oh, yeah. It's gonna be right.

He ain't really hooked yet.

You good, Daniel?
Yeah.

We tight with something.
I don't know if he's right.

Maybe it's a 70-incher.

He's good, dude.
Okay. Okay.

I just don't think he's hooked yet.

He might not even know
he's hooked yet.

I think it's a shark, right?

Got to be.

Should we have a dart
ready in case it's a fish?

Probably wouldn't hurt.
Just for fun.

Might be a bigeye.

Been a bunch of bigeyes
caught around here.

He's close. Coming up.

Swivel.
Leader.

Color.
Keeper?

I think so.

I think he'll keep.

A bigeye.

That's a bigeye?
Yeah, I think so.

Got him.

Where's the rope?

Minnie, hush it, lady.

A bigeye.

bigeye.

Still a paycheck.
It just ain't what we needed.

It's still a big one, though.

Yeah, set back out
and try to get another one.

That's all we can do.

This is not a good one.

That's a bigeye.
He's giving you all the fit.

I thin k it's a bluefin, man.

Reel, reel, reel!
Yeah, it's a bluefin.

Holy cow!
Crank, crank, crank, crank!

Come on, boys! We need this one!

Reel, reel, reel!
Yeah, it's a bluefin.

Holy cow! Crank! Crank! Crank!

Come on, boys. We need this one.

Crank her up.

It's the weirdest fish I've ever seen.

I think we had a shark on
and the bluefin ate the shark.

Moment of truth coming up here.

We most definitely
have not caught this fish yet.

Forward. Yeah. It's gonna be a hard shot.

Gonna be close.

Throw the dart.

You got a gaff?

Bo, it looked like a
really good dart shot.

Go get your door opened.

You got your gaffs out?

Yeah. There you go.

Woo! Thank you, Lord.

It was a really weird fish fight.

But all that really matters is
that we have a legal bluefin.

This will give us a bigger
lead ahead of the fleet.

Now, we just need to get a good price
and take home a good paycheck.

Swimming west.

Yeah, she's a good one.

Good going, Shack.

One, two, three.

He's long enough.

Yeah, he's plenty long.

86 inches.

We needed that. 86.

Good job, Cap.

Thank you, Jesus.

Doghouse got one.

Been pretty hot this year.

They stayed up on that edge

and they were going back
and forth in those edges.

That's where we are now
if that's what you're talking about.

No, we turned
and went the other way.

We're out in no man's land.

Just like a desert.

I don't see anybody.

When we get a bluefin check,

probably about 20%,
25% goes to pay crew.

The captain probably gets 20%, 25%.

45% goes to pay for fuel.

And the rest goes to
all the miscellaneous stuff.

But with no tuna on deck,
we're just hemorrhaging cash.

We need this gamble
away from the crowd to pay off.

I'm frustrated, bro.

I know, dude.
So am I, dude.

We need to do something.

Show me the money.

Welcome back, crew.

Thank you.
So good to see you.

Want to check her out?

Yeah, I do. I want to see her.

Let's check her out.

When we bring a bluefin to the buyer,

they're looking for a cherry
red color, a lot of fat,

and a translucent core.

If the tuna have
all those things,

we're gonna get a great price.

Let's see what
we got, fellas, 258 pounds.

There you go.
We'll take it.

Let's step over here
and see what she looks like.

Let's do it.
Yeah, absolutely.

Let's see what we got.
All right, Doghouse crew.

In terms of freshness, clearly,

it's a really fresh fish.

It has color and there's some fat.

There's more fat in the minors up here
than there is down here.

Let's check the inside out
and see what this core looks like.

I'm gonna tell you something.

This probe is actually,
it's very gel-like.

It's really good-looking.

Guys, what do you think?

I mean, you seem pretty excited about it.
How about the price?

This one's gonna
be a solid $8 a pound.

Eight bucks. Yeah, two grand.

Good job, fellas.
I'll take it.

Yes, sir. Congratulations.
Yeah. Good job, Brit.

Winning is important because
winning is dollars for myself and my crew.

The boat's very expensive,
but I've got to make a profit.

What it comes down to
is my net at the end of year.

So I need to catch
as many fish as I possibly can.

Money in the bank.

Somehow, we got to
keep the good vibes up.

Wind just started blowing, I feel like.

This season has been
just brutal with the weather

and we get these short
little weather windows,

which is our worst enemy.

To this day, we're still
trying to recoup the costs

after hitting the bridge
several years ago.

We spent almost $50,000
to have the boat repaired.

It's taken me a long time to pay
the big expense back.

We have struggled to get back on our feet.

You know, we don't get to pick
and choose the weather,

so hopefully we can get us
another fish and get on back.

I don't know how them boys
do it on the Rasta Rocket.

What's the plan of attack?

We'll take any one we can get.

Looking at the weather here,

it's gonna be 30 to 40 south.

What time does it kick in?

The next 24 hours.

That's not good.
You're not gonna get 'em at that point.

Good luck.
What do you think, Cliff, 25 and 35?

Yeah. Yeah.
That wind's coming on strong.

The quota was extended
from 49 tons to 75 tons,

but we got really bad weather
coming in, so right now,

we need to catch some fish
before the weather hits

and before the quota's caught up.

.

Right now, I'm putting
a mackerel out with

a 70-pound floss thread.

The heavy thread I use keeps
the mackerel on the hook

just like I want it,
so when the tuna bites it,

it comes out of the bait
really easy and hooks him

right in the corner.

Look at that mark, Nick.

That looks like a horde of tuna.

Damn, here comes
something right at 225.

Come on, boys. We got to get us one.

Feel like he's going down, Cliff?
Yeah. Right where we want to be.

See anything?

I don't know whatever we did,

but we done pissed the tuna gods off.

Wait a minute. We're on! Woo!

Yeah, baby! Hooked up.

Cliff, I'll take over.

We're all trying to make money,

but just to get out to fish
we have a $900 fuel bill.

That's huge when you're talking about
dollars and cents.

You're not gonna pay that
until you catch a fish,

so every fish counts.

You see the line?

Yeah, it looks
like I need to turn it.

Yeah, there you go.

Go down sea.

Where are we at?
Where's the fish at?

Are we winning?

I don't even know
if he's still there.

Can't see a damn thing.

Come on, fish.

Where are we at?
Where's the fish at?

Are we winning?

I don't even know
if he's still there.

Can't see a damn thing.

Come on fish.
He's there.

You need me?

Come crank on him, Cliff.
He's there. He's there.

He's coming up.

Something's still there I think.

I can't tell because it's rough.

B, you ready?
Yeah.

A lot of times,
you just slow the fish down.

If the fish can't swim,
it can't breathe.

He breathes by moving.

A lot of times if your
fish is swimming like this,

you're just chasing him with the boat,

he's just swimming.

I'm telling you, man,

he's right under the tide.

Hopefully we'll get him keep going west.

Getting ready to be rough out here.

Good job, Brandan. Good job, big boy.

Woo!

You behind me?
Yup. Right here.

Hold on. Whoa.
Watch out, boys. Hang on.

What do you want me to do?

Stay doing whatever you're doing,

cause he's coming.

Get your gaff and
get ready just in case.

Dammit, dammit, dammit.

Is he still there?

Chafed off. Gut hooked him.

Wow, what a heartbreaker.

We didn't just lose
this bluefin, you know,

we're in the hole for
the leader and the hook.

But we can't get our
time and effort back

and that's the most expensive
commodity we have.

It's gonna be a long night.

Missed a bite on that one.

Just barely missed him.

Hook's right there.

Toothy critter got that one.

Might have been a shark.

We got to get some bait out.

We need to hurry.

Instead of just trolling all day,

I wanted to drift a couple hours.

We're gonna fish one down 15 fathoms

and one down 25 because while
we were getting here

we were marking a lot of fish
at ten to 30 fathoms just all in there,

so we'll put one at 15 and one at 25

and I think they'll be in a good spot.

It's a big gamble every year
going into the season

putting all this money in the boat.

We've got fuel, we've got bait,
we've got ice, we've got tackle,

so we've got a lot of, a lot of expenses
that we've got to take out

of these fish checks.

It's important to make
more than what we spent

to turn a profit.

The Doghouse just caught a fish,

so definitely pretty tense.

Fierce condition that we got, man.

This is like gloom
and doom on this drift here.

Something's getting ready to happen.

What's our numbers?

What are we at?

787 and 516.

Okay, perfect.

Marking the out of them.

See, that's pretty right here.

How deep?

30 fathoms, 25 fathoms.
Come look at this.

He said, "Come look at this."

Moments ago.
Oh.

What?

Oh. Big old herd. A lot of marks.

Damn, we're about to get a bite.

I'm feeling good about it.

I'm feel like we're just
ahead of getting a bite.

Man, I need to get down there.

We're gonna get a bite out of that.

Oh, yeah. Oh, boy. Oh, boy.

Oh, God.

- There he is.
There he is. Got him on.

Got him on.
Keep it going. Yee-haw.

Want to move holders?
Yeah.

Let me know when you're ready.

Yeah, baby! Woo!
Trying to catch this tuna.

Wow.

Whoa.

Oh. It's kind of choppy out here.

Ah! . Oh. I ain't got my slicks on.

Dang, that hurt. Oh.

Ready whenever.

Yeah, come to Trey-Trey.

Every minute you're resting,

the fish is resting too.

So when you're beat, you
put a fresh guy on there.

He's got a bunch of energy,
his arm ain't hurting, like so.

We're getting a line,

a lot of line back on the reel now.

We still got probably
600 feet from the fish,

so it would be nice to get
one before that storm arrives.

We should have no problem
getting this tuna,

especially if the weather
holds up like this.

Here, tuna, tuna,
tuna, tuna, tuna, tuna.

Yeah, we're very close.
He's really, really sporadic right now.

He's kind of going back
and forth all crazy.

The weather's kind of
picking up a little bit.

It's getting a little bit
choppier every minute,

so see if we can get
him up here and get him.

Damn, he's a crazy-acting fish.

Just tried to go up under the bow.

There he is, there he is.
There's your fish.

Get ready. Get ready.

He needs to be about 15 feet
from us to get a good dart shot.

We're about 150 right now.
So, really, really close.

Just kind of in this pinwheel
here at the very end.

He's going around in a big old circle.

When a tuna is circling,
that means it's getting tired

and it's getting closer to the surface.

We got to get the fish up
before we lose control

and the fish starts fighting us again.

If the tuna comes out of its circle,

it could take off running again before
we could get a dart shot.

Extremely close.

Get him, get him, get him, get him,
get him. Forward, forward, forward.

All right, stop, stop,
stop, stop, stop, stop!

He's going down again.

I can't stick him.

Forward, forward, forward, forward!

Trey, Trey!
Open your eyes.

Go do something.

Don't sit there with your
hands in your pockets.

He came out of his circle. We're .

Back the drag off if you got to.

All right, stop, stop,
stop, stop, stop, stop!

He's going down again. I can't stick him.

Forward, forward, forward, forward!

Trey, Trey!
Open your eyes.

Go do something.

Don't sit there with your
hands in your pockets.

He came out of his circle.

We're .

Burning back down now.

Dammit.

That was his last pass too
and we broke his circle.

Trey, you want to switch
sides here in a minute?

I can't do this all day.

I know better than that.

Watch the drag.

That holder over
there is a lot straighter

than this holder.

We moved it to a rod holder
with a little bit more angle

back so we could get
the rod tip further away

from the boat.

He's mean.
He ain't as mean as I am.

Woo. Come on, baby.
Let's get you this go round.

Got you right where I want you now.

- Here he is.
I see the fish.

Pull hard, pull hard,
pull hard, pull hard, pull hard.

I am.

In the head.
In the head. In the head.

Get a rope, Ellis.

Can you walk that way, Trey?

Yeah. I got you.

Get back. Woo! All right, guys.

Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo.

We're going home.

Game over.

Feels good to have number four, you know,

we're still behind The Doghouse.

Feels really good to turn
this season around and feel

like we might actually make some money.

Just for a little bit,
it was getting a little scary.

So it feels really good to be
heading in the right direction.

Put a tape measure on him.

All right, he's 93.
All right.

All right, better than we thought.
Way better than I thought.

I thought he was gonna be the mid-80s.

Guys, he's a ticket home.

Get in there.
Get this fish off the boat.

We need to decide whether we're gonna
go fishing tomorrow or not.

I still don't really know.

Spending money on another trip is a really
big risk with another storm coming in.

But for today, we're gonna
celebrate the fish we've got.

He's the ticket home.

We'll make us a little cheddar.

Foggy.

Calling for a screaming
southerly wind here.

Hopefully we can go fish.

Top of the tide is gonna be 10:00.

You don't want to be out here in 40 knot,

southerly wind on top of this.

Knowing our luck,
we're gonna get hooked up

right when it starts blowing 50.

Yeah. We need a fish.

Yeah, we need to just get the
out of here, bro.

Man, this is agony, bro.

I hear you.

Hog Wild, I hear you're on the meat.

Finally.

Yep. I knew you'd get there.

How was your trip?

Tried to get a fish first thing
in the morning and it worked out for us.

Ready to see what you think about it.

All right. Get him up here.

Here we go.

What do we got for a weight, Mary?

Got 373 pounds.

Better than we thought there.
We'll take it.

Let's see what
you're working with here.

All righty.
All right.

All right, guys. Here it is.

Now you notice in the shape,
it wasn't super round.

It kind of had a flat shape, you know.

We wouldn't expect it
to be super fat just based

on the shape and you know,
it's not, however,

it's got a nice red color.

So let's just check the core
out real quick.

Oh, no, that's nice.

Got a pretty red color.

What are you thinking for a price?

I think on this one...

$9 a pound.

All right! $9. Cool.
That was a lot better.

You scared me a minute, kind of.

It's a decent fish. Yeah.

More than happy with $9.
All right, we'll take another one.

Get back out there. Good work, guys.

Tomorrow.
Thank you, Mary.

We'll see you tomorrow.
See you tomorrow.

We will.

Short weather window.

There's not any time to waste.

Hopefully we get lucky and get a bite.

It's not so rough that it makes me
uncomfortable at this point,

it's just rough.

Gonna make the best out of it.

Gonna try and catch us a tuna.

I don't know how them boys
do it on the Rasta Rocket.

Getting some airtime today, buddy.

About time to catch us a tuna.

We're taking a big risk being out here
with a storm on its way.

Damn, look at that ledge, Daniel.

This rough weather is stirring up bait
that's normally pushed to the bottom.

With the bait coming up,
the tuna should as well.

Look at that. We're here.

We got to catch one
for this gamble to pay off.

Let's put this bait out at 50 feet.

There's got to be tuna
around the surface here.

Minnie, she's ready
to catch her a tuna.

We need us a fish
to come home, sugar.

Daniel and Shane both
have families to feed,

so we really need a paycheck right now.

It's important for these families
not to go hungry.

This risk that we're taking
right now better payoff

or we're pushing
the limits for nothing.

Marking 'em.

We're marking 'em, man,
let's get the bait out quick.

You got to have bait to have tuna.

Fingers crossed.

Hold on.

Fish on, baby! Fish on!

Got 'em on.

I got the rod, dude.

Please, Lord.

Keep us tight. We need this fish.

Weather's gonna pick up in a bit.

We're down and dirty though.

Raining, blowing twenty, six-foot seas.

Another day in the office.

When it's real rough out,

it's pretty difficult to fight the fish,

maneuver around the boat.

Easy, big wave!

We got so many big waves coming.

I mean six foot out here.

Ideally when the boat
pitches up, you know,

it's gonna tighten up on the fish.

I mean, you can go down if you want
to gain that slack back

just to keep him tight,
you know, it's rough.

But hopefully, we'd get him.
We're praying we get him.

I got a two-year old at home.

She don't care nothing
about rough weather,

but she loves big tunas.

He's got to be getting close.

Yeah. Deep color. Get the harpoon.

Swivel.

It is getting pretty rough.

I can't see **** up here.

What's that over there?

I think there's a shark down there.

Sketchy.

Spin it on 'em.

Don't let it get close to our tuna.

Man, we're in trouble here.

It's gonna eat him!

Careful. We don't want to lose him.

Get the harpoon.

Shark.

Spin it on 'em.

Don't let it get close to our tuna.

Man, we're in trouble here.

It's gonna eat him.

Careful. We don't want to lose him.

Here we go.
Here we go. Right here.

Is he on your right?

I think so.
Maybe right there, I don't know.

Yep, right under us.

I can't see.
I can't see. I can't see.

He's right there.
Right here. Right here.

Tail gaff.

Stick him in the head
when he comes by.

Get that rope on him, big boy.

- Pull up, pull him up to me.
I barley got him.

Woo.

Heck yeah, boys.

In the Rasta.
In the Rasta.

Who can't catch 'em in the rough stuff
on the little boat?

I don't see nobody else out
here on a 45-foot contender.

Hey, Zack, where they at?

Yeah, I don't see
no other center consoles, where y'all at?

Bluefin season. We got to go.

Bluefin season, baby.

End game.

-We got him, boys.
Pretty work, Zack.

Let's get him in here, boys.

Thank goodness that shark went away.

We must have scared it with all the
hollering we was doing.

Let's see how long it is, 89.

Oh, yeah, perfect.

89-incher for number four.

Got you, big boy.

We're going back to Wanchese.

Ass-beating, worthwhile.

What's up, guys?

Number four through the door, I see.

Yeah. It was rough,
but it all paid off in the end.

All right, let's go ahead
and get this thing up here.

Let's check him out, man.

Let's do it.

What we got for weight, Bill?

322 pounds.

Yeah, dude.
I'll take it.

I didn't think he was gonna
be that big, to be honest with you.

Let's see what
that tail cut looks like.

Sounds good.
Sweet.

It's pretty nice fish.
It's got some fat.

Kind of oily.

It's got a nice little sheen to it.

Decent color...

Yeah, I hope
the core looks like that.

Let's see what this core looks like.

Not the greatest core color.

It's a little bland.
It's a little grainy too.

So, what you think, man,
for a price on this fish?

I'm thinking...

$9 a pound.

Better than I was thinking.

We earned this, man.

Yeah, y'all
definitely earned it, man.

All right, boys. Well, see you later.

We're gonna take it to the camper.

Yes, sir.

Later.

With the competition as
fierce as it is right now

every penny matters.

And on a day like today
as tough as the conditions was,

we're just blessed to have a fish.

It's a beautiful thing.

Paying bills
and showing these guys what's up.

Storm chasers coming to you live.

It's rough,
it's raining, we're tired.

We need this to happen sooner than later
because it's gonna get worse.

I've fished the Offshore Outlaw in a lot
of bad weather.

It's a catch 22.

You don't want to die
out there over a tuna,

but at the end of the day I'm a fisherman

and this is how I pay my bills.

We're stressed out.

We're not catching bluefin,
so we have no money coming in.

That's The Doghouse over there.

Plus Doghouse has pulled ahead.

We got to get another fish.

If we can catch and get
back before the storm,

we might have a shot at
pulling into first place.

Just gonna keep on grinding
it out until we get our fish.

Got foggy all
of the sudden, didn't it?

The weather's raunchy.

So we got fog, we got wind
form two different directions

getting ready to come
from a third direction,

but it's bluefin season.

We're gonna fish it out here.

Stormtrooper, charge!

Look at all them birds.

There's a mark, finally.

Three fish right there.

I'm marking one, guys.

Come on, baby.
Come on up and bite it.

Got fish
on the screen, guys.

- Come on, Lord.
Come on, baby.

Come on, bluefin.

There he is.

That's him.

That's him.

Woo-hoo!
We got him on.

You ready? One, two, three.

All right. Got me another bite here.

Down and tight, baby. Outlaw is tight.

That's a bummer.

- Whoa!
There he is.

That's him right there, Cap.

Got him on.

Got a bite here.

Got it?

Let's show
these boys how it's done.

Four different swell
directions at the same time.

There's no place I'd rather be than in
the ocean fighting a bluefin right now.

Forward, Cap. Forward!

We need this one, man.

Offshore Outlaw,
he's gonna have five fish

if he lands that one.

That's gonna be neck and
neck competition there.

And we don't want that.

We want to have a comfort zone
where we ain't stressing out so bad.

Is that too fast?

No.

Nope, nope.
Just right. Just right.

Come on, baby. Play nice.

This fish is coming
at the boat hard right now

so there's a lot of cranking going on.

So we just got a lot
of line back real fast.

Getting close.

Yeah. Just stick it out.

I see color.

Oh, !
Came off, dude.

Oh, son of a gun.

Fish just come off.

Doghouse just lost his fish.

Another day in the office.

Look at this fog out here.
It's like Doomsday.

Hold on. It's getting bad.

The sooner we get this fish, the better.

We got to get out of here.

I just know it's gonna get worse.

Come on, John. Get on him.

Color! Swivel!
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

Stick him good now!

Oh, .

Do something! Do something!

I just want the fish.

Color!
Swivel!

Oh, yeah.

Stick him good now.

Oh, .

What are you doing?

Do something!
Do something!

Stick him!
There you go! There you go!

Pull him in. Pull him in. Pull him in.

Get his tail, Adam, get his tail.

I just want the fish.

Just get the tail.

I will. Just get a tail gaff.

Tail gaff.
Tail gaff. Tail gaff.

Got him! Woo!

Could be wrong, but I think
he's about a hundred inches, too.

Yeah!
Yeah, baby!

Woo! Yeah, baby! We earned this one.

Pretty work, fellas.

Got him!
Number five, baby. Bingo!

All right, the Outlaws
have put 'em on the rope.

Pretty work, buddy.

Now, all we got to
do is get home safely.

With this storm moving in,

I'm sure happy
we caught this fish when we did.

This one tuna will be more than enough
to cover our trip's expenses,

and then some.

Here we go.

It looks like the weather's giving us
a little bit of break,

which is good because
it gives us a little bit of time

to get back to the dock safely.

Oh, one, two, three.

One, two, three.

Butterball.

Let's do it.
Let's see what we got.

100 inches.

Let's take this thing to the dock,

so we can get some sleep.

We can mark number five off today.

I'm excited to do this.

There you go. Number five.

We did it.

Yeah. I don't even know
how we're still functioning.

Bag 'em and
tag 'em, then we go home.

You know what?

We're not gonna catch one in this .
We're going home.

Okey-doke.

Run home with my
tail between my legs.

Probably the smartest thing to do.

I'm ready to go home.

We got to get back to the Inlet
to catch the tide back in,

so we're wrapping it up
and going home with nothing.

I think the fat lady's singing.

She's gonna blow 20 to 30 east, northeast.

Let's just head home,

- recharge our batteries.
All right.

Definitely not the way we wanted it
or anticipated it to go.

I mean, this sucks, man.

I hate going in empty-handed.

This is the walk of shame,
going in with nothing.

That sucks, buddy.

I think we need
a mental health day.

We're lucky to have missed
the worst part of the storm.

We're just glad to have a tuna.

Got her now.

You guys
just had to come in while it's raining.

I feel like we earned this one.
You guys want to get it up?

Yeah, let's do it.
Let's take a look at this thing.

All right, let's do this.
Watch your head.

Between John-Michael, me, and Adam.

Pretty, pretty.

There's nothing that
all three of us can't do.

So when this big fish hit,
everything just flows.

We know exactly what we need
to do to land this big fish.

We're a well-oiled machine.

What do we got, Scotty?
Looking at 407 pounds.

Not bad for a 100-incher.

That's, I'm telling you.
Come check it out.

All right. Beautiful.

- It's a nice watermelon-looking color.
Yeah.

And it's just loaded with fat.

Hopefully the core looks good.

I hope so.

Oh, yes, sir.

Fire.

Really good.

Boom.
That's nice.

Drop the mic, buddy.

Look it, it glows.

Perfect core.

Everything about this fish is nice.

All right, Scotty.
What do we got here?

Bottom line...

11 bucks a pound.

Yes!
Yes.

There we go, boys.

- That's five grand right there.
All right. Yeah.

It makes it all worthwhile
when we hear things like that, you know?

Yeah, you guys are doing good.

That's good, yeah.
All right, Scotty.

We're getting out of this rain, man.
Appreciate that.

Appreciate it.
Good seeing you again.

All right. Take it easy.
See you later, thanks.

See you sooner than later.

Absolutely.

We are the underdogs.

We got the 36-foot boat
that is really, really old.

Really, really slow.

But that drive, that
determination to keep pushing,

to go without sleep, to turn and burn,

that's why we're sitting
where we're at right now.

Seen across the board.
Good for the Outlaw.

With a big payday
for a quality bluefin,

Offshore Outlaw knocks
Doghouse out of first place.

Rasta Rocket moves into the top three.

And Hog Wild jumps from last place
to the middle of the pack.
