Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 8, Episode 4 - Doghouse Domination - full transcript

DIRTY: Fish on.

GREG: Yeah, baby, hooked up.
We're on.

NARRATOR: To catch blue gold...

MAN: Woo!

NARRATOR: In the Outer Banks...

BILLON: Got him.
GREG: Nice and easy, boys.
BILLON: Finally got a fish on.

NARRATOR: You need
a top-notch crew.

BOBBY: Come on, it's gonna
come tight right now.

NARRATOR: Working together...

CLIFF: Pretty work, man.

NARRATOR: Like a
well-oiled machine.

BRITTON: When the pressure
is on, y'all perform.

NARRATOR: On this episode...

BILLON: Woo!
JIMMIE: Woo-hoo!
BRITTON: Got 'em on!

BOBBY: I haven't
seen a fish take line like
that in a long time.

NARRATOR: One OG of the OBX...

ADAM: Shack is
smoking everybody.

BRITTON: For five years,

I didn't have my
mind on fishing.

NARRATOR: Gets dialed
in to dominate...

ZACK: We're coming for 'em,
ain't that right, puppy?

BRIAN: Woo!
JIMMIE: Woo!
NICK: Yeah!

NARRATOR: On
Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.

ADAM:
Nothing on this boat that
any one of us can't do.

NARRATOR: Family-owned and
operated Offshore Outlaw holds

a slim lead over Southern
transplant Reel E' Bugging and

local legend Doghouse.

Meanwhile, the Little Shell
continues to struggle as the

only boat in the
fleet with just one fish.

BRITTON: Go ahead
and set out just as soon as
you're ready.

CATLIN: Yes, sir.

Are you excited to
be out here, Bo?

BO: I'm not a night fisherman.

CATLIN: You're not
a night fisherman?

What do you like
to do at night?

BO: Make stuff.

CATLIN: So you like to
your crafting at night?

BO: Yeah.

CATLIN: When do you sleep?

BO: I don't, I don't
put much effort in it.

BRITTON: Catlin and
Bo are doing an exceptional

job this year.

They've meshed well together.

It may be our first
season fishing as a crew,

but they're highly
skilled and hardworking.

We're on a hot streak
right now because of it.

CATLIN: Is that one
of your special knots?

BO: Are you calling
me special again?

BRITTON: Plus, they
like fishing as much as I do.

And attitude makes
the difference.

CATLIN: You think this
is gonna be the side, Bo?

BO: I'm gonna go
with that side.

CATLIN: You think that the
wind is coming from that way

that we're gonna
drift this way?

BO: Maybe.

CATLIN: Okay.

BRITTON: We just
set up a drift here.

Looking to see if we can
maybe catch one tonight.

BRITTON: Drift
fishing is when you take your
boat out of gear and

you're actually putting bait
down to try to get your bait

in the column of water that
you're marking the fish in.

At night, the Bluefin sit
deeper in the water column.

We use weight so that the line
stays at the correct depth.

And then we let the current
push the boat over top of them,

so the bait moves
naturally through the water.

CATLIN: Drift a
couple mackerels.

They're really fishy, oily.

They got a strong scent.

The tunas can find
them in the dark.

Good nighttime bait.

BRITTON: A lot,
a lot of bait around.

Out here just
north of the point,

we got Little Shell and
Outlaw below us too.

Haven't heard any
bites yet, but...

(beeping)

The day is very young.

Down there at 20, 25 fathom.

Second time we marked them.

All right.

We're in the meat here,
guys, let's get a bite.

That's what I'm talking about.

(reel clicking)

(reel unspooling rapidly)

There he is!
Feels like a good one.

BO: He staying?

CATLIN: I'm here, Cap.
Easy. I got you.

BO: I think that
one is gonna stay.

BO: Watch your feet.
Watch your feet.

BRITTON: We need this one.

CATLIN: I think we got
us a Bluefin on here.

BO: I'll get this
other rod out your way.

BRITTON: I
hope this one stays on here.

NICK: Doghouse
has got 'em on again.

BRANDAN: They've
had enough good luck.

CATLIN: This one's tight.

It's smoking line
off the reel.

Smoking it.

BRITTON: Come on, boys!
We need this one.

CATLIN: I would really like
for this one to stay on.

It's rough. Really rough.
Really miserable out here.

I'd really like to
have a ticket home.

(tension snap)

Oh, no.

BO: Huh?

CATLIN: I swear I
think it just came off.

Gone.

BO: Gone?
CATLIN: Gone.
BO: I'll crank it up for you.

CATLIN: I got it, dude.
**** it.

BRITTON:
That son of a gun come off.

NICK: It come off already.
BRANDAN: See?

That's how it happens.

He's had good luck,
everything's went well for him.

NICK: Yeah, yeah,
but he'll get one.

BRITTON: Pulled off.

Come off.

BRITTON: Not the
result we wanted, but I'm
still feeling good.

I've got 'em
on the meat and with Bo
and Catlin in the cockpit,

I'm confident we'll
get another bite in no time.

Hold on, bud.

I'm gonna cheat
back down and start this
drift one more time.

CATLIN: Yes, sir.

ADAM: There's some
bites this morning.

I think Doghouse and
them are on the 630.

I'm not sure.

JOHN-MICHAEL: Tell them to put
a couple nightlights on them,

so we could maybe see why
it's drift, where it's at.

ERIC: Between these
glow sticks and the floodlights,

we're lighting up the
whole ocean tonight.

ADAM: It's really important
to have bright lights.

I feel like it brings the
baitfish up and it just

creates this feeding frenzy.

And I feel like all the
action in the water will

draw the tuna in.

It really does work.

That's our plan and we're
hoping to stir up some life

somewhere out here
and get our bite.

ADAM: We're
in the lead right now, but
the margin is razor-thin,

so we have to keep
the pressure on.

Bugging is right behind
us and so is Doghouse.

That's who I'm
really worried about.

No one knows these waters
as good as Britton.

And that's tough
to compete against.

ERIC: But right now we're
holding on to first place.

So you know what
that means, John.

We got a target on our back.

JOHN-MICHAEL: Oh, yeah.

I hope it stays on our
back the whole season.

ADAM: Got Eric
and John back here,

getting our baits out,

so couldn't ask to have two
better people on the deck.

My brother and
cousin-in-law are the

best mates in the Atlantic.

The three of us are
like a well-oiled machine.

We've all been fishing
together for 30-plus years.

We've been on the
ocean our whole lives.

Fishing with my family means I
can trust them with anything.

There's nothing on this
boat that any one of
us can't do or handle.

It's kind of nice.

Takes a lot of weight
off my shoulders.

All right, the lines are out,
we're drifting.

(reel clicking)

(reel unspooling rapidly)

JOHN-MICHAEL:
Hey, there he is!

Come on, baby!
Run, baby! Run, run!

Oh, come on.

(barking)

Come on now! Come on now!

He's acting like a
shark at first, dude.

He paused two or three times.

ERIC: Yeah, I hope
it's the right one.

ADAM: All right...

ADAM: I'm tight.

BRITTON: There you go.

CATLIN: Outlaw's got one on.

CLIFF: Time for us
to catch a fish.

NICK: We got to get one today.

JOHN-MICHAEL: So when he
first hit, tuna he paused.

ADAM: He made a good run though.

JOHN-MICHAEL: And
he paused again.

He paused a couple times, man.

ERIC: Come on.
Be the one, baby.
Be the one!

Getting on him pretty
good right now.

He's not, he ain't running.

ADAM: I think it's him, dude.

Sharks don't normally
run that far.

ADAM: We'll see right
here in a minute.

Sometimes in the
dark, these fish,

they don't fight as hard.

We got our fingers crossed
that we got the right one.

ERIC: Be the one, baby.

JOHN-MICHAEL: Want me to
move this to the back, ready?

Move, Chop.

ERIC: Woo.

JOHN-MICHAEL:
Oh, he's kicking.

ADAM: Forward, forward,
forward, forward.

JOHN-MICHAEL: Deep color.

Color!

I see a lot of white on him.

Come on.

ERIC: Just crank him.

JOHN-MICHAEL: I'm on
the swivel right now!

All right, it's a
like a little tuna.

ERIC: Eyeball. Eyeball.

JOHN-MICHAEL: Eyeball.
Yep, Bigeye. Hold on.

ERIC: Pull him over the rail.

JOHN-MICHAEL:
Ready, one, two, three.

ERIC: Chopper get back.
Yeah, it's a Bigeye.

JOHN-MICHAEL:
Yeah, it's a Bigeye.

See his long pectoral fin too.

Not the right species,
but he'll pay for the gas.

ERIC: Let's get
the rods back out.

JOHN-MICHAEL: All right.

ADAM: At the end of the day
it's all about the money.

It's a legal fish.

It's worth money,
so we'll take him.

With that being said,
this Bigeye is not gonna

increase our lead.

And that's what we're
looking to do is prove a point

that we're the
best and that's what
we're gonna try to do.

JOHN-MICHAEL:
At least we know the
glow sticks work.

NICK:
The bite is on, boys.

Britton got his
bite on a mackerel.

We should try one of those.

We're gonna just rig
some mackerels up,

put them down there a
couple different depths and

hope to get lucky.

We're at the bottom
of the pack right now,

and the pressure is
really on this season.

Since I've been with
Brandan and Cliff,

we've fished against some
of the best crews on the

East Coast and we've
come out above them all.

I'm a very
competitive fisherman.

I hate to lose and it's very,

very difficult to
know that I'm dead last.

We just got to focus and
when we do get a bite,

we got to close the deal.

We hide the hook
right inside the bait so

the tuna can't see it.

Just put a couple stitches
to keep the leader from

going off the side.

And if it goes off to the
side like that it will cause
the bait to helicopter spin,

so we just like to sew
it just to secure it a

little bit just so it
basically stays out of the

end of the mouth.

All right, Cliff, where's
your monster rubber band?

CLIFF: We'll get him.

(beeping)

NICK: There's a mark!
He's under the boat.

150-foot. It looks like him.

(reel clicking)

(reel unspooling rapidly)

CLIFF: Got him on!

You want to move
that over here?

You ready?

Here. Here, put this on.

I'll fight it.

He's pretty strong, Cap.

All we got is a bite, boys.

We got to get us
a fun ticket home!

NICK: It's getting rough.

NICK: I wanna get out here.
CLIFF: Here, here, hold this,
I'm gonna get my jacket.

NICK: I don't need to
be out here no more.

CLIFF: Are we good?

NICK: Way up on top.

CLIFF: Let's see if
I can turn the boat around

and get the bow.

NICK: Just chill out, man.
Just...

CLIFF: Hold on, boys.
BRANDAN: Come on.
NICK: Go easy now.

All right, bump her ahead.
All right. Turn her.

CLIFF: Come on, baby.

BRANDAN: Big wave.
Another big wave.

NICK: (bleep) rough.

NICK: I hate night fishing.

There's your swivel, Brandan.

NICK: Get your dart back in.
Cliff, watch out. Watch it.

NICK: He's coming around.

He's gonna have to go
around a couple more times.

Hold on.

He's, come around.

Hold on, Brandan.

Let's bend the rod.
He's fine.

Nail him, Brandan.

Yes! Get tail gaff! Tail gaff!

CLIFF: Watch out!

NICK: Give me some dart line.

You're standing
on my dart line.

BRANDAN: Alright, you clear?

NICK: Let's ease him up here
with this dart line, Cliff.

Tail rope.

Right side of Cliff!
Right side of Cliff!

All right!
Yeah, baby! Yeah, guys!

CLIFF: Yeah!
BRANDAN: Headed to the west.

NICK: All right.
Let's get the hell outta here.

CLIFF: Woo!
BRANDAN: Good job, buddy.

NICK: Let's get
the hell outta here.

CLIFF:
Let's just get out of the
tide and then we'll come

out here and mess with all
this crap when it calms down

and ain't so bumpy-umpy.

NICK:
Oh, we just tied him off.

GREG: Pretty work.

ZACK: That will
get the job done.

NICK: One, two, three.

Nice damn fish, boys.

Yeah! All right, guys.
Let's see how long he is.

We know its' bigger

so it's definitely legal.

BRANDAN: 99 inches.

CLIFF: All right.

BRANDAN: Woo!
NICK: Hell yeah.

Nice fish, guys.

CLIFF: Pretty work, man.
NICK: Good job, man.

Hey, we stuck it

That's what it takes.
That's what it's gonna take.

We're behind a little bit,
but we ain't out.

Just get her pointed
in there man and we got to

get across that bar.

BRITTON: Little Shell finally
caught one on very, very,

very rough conditions.

Boy they needed that.

CATLIN: It's gonna
be a good day.

BO: Huh?

CATLIN:
It's gonna be a good day.

BO: I hope so.

BOBBY: Hey, Nick,
Little Shell, you on here?

NICK: Yeah.

BOBBY: You got
you yours, I hope?

NICK: Yep.

BOBBY: Pretty work, man.

All right, listen, we got
the entire fleet going south.

We're just gonna head
North, way North.

We're gonna go
20-25 miles into Virginia

and look for where that cold
water hits that hot water.

DREW: I'm going home.

BOBBY: The rest of the
fleet is down by The Point,

but with the fish spread out
as much as they are I'm gonna

take my chances on my own.

We are in a battle with
Outlaw and Doghouse right now

so we need to take risk.

I know what I'm up
against with Outlaw,

I've competed
against them before.

Doghouse, not so much.

I mean Britton
and the Doghouse,

never said good morning.

I mean, he's a man of few
words, you know, it's.

DREW: Don't know
anybody on the crew,

but they must be doing good.

They got.

BOBBY: Well, they're firing
on all cylinders, dude.

DREW: Yeah.

CLIFF: We're
getting paid today!

NICK: Yeah, boys.

All right, Scotty, we
got another one for you.

SCOTT: I don't know
how you guys do it.

NICK: How about we get this
one off and we try to get some
more of that quota?

SCOTT: Sounds good to me.
Let's do it.
Let's check it out.

NICK: All right, buddy.

BRANDAN: He looks beautiful.

NICK: I'm feeling pretty good.

The signs I saw point to there
being a lot more fish here.

BRANDAN: All right.
Got it, got it.

Go ahead.

NICK: Even though
they call me Nick the Stick,

we know the stick is not
catching fish this season,

so me, Cliff, and Brandan,
we made the adjustment.

And there's gonna be a lot
more rod action on Little Shell.

Don't count us out.

What do we got for
dressed weight, Scotty?

SCOTT: Looking at
367 pounds dressed.

NICK: Nice.

Well, let's take
a look at him.

SCOTT: All right,
let's check it out.

NICK: When a
buyer's looking at a fish,

they want to see lots of fat,
a good tail color,

and a clear core.

SCOTT: All right, guys.

NICK: That actually looks
pretty good, doesn't it?

SCOTT: The color's decent.

It has a lot of fat.
Good in the majors.

Super greasy fish too.

NICK: Good.
We need some money, man.

SCOTT: As long as
this core is good,

you guys should be all right.

NICK: Nice.

SCOTT: That's really nice.
NICK: That's nice and firm.
SCOTT: That's perfect.

NICK:
That's all good news.
Fat and a nice core.

CLIFF: What you gonna give us?
That's the main thing.

SCOTT: Bottom line,
I'll get you guys...

10 bucks a pound.

NICK: All right. Good.
CLIFF: Yeah, man.
NICK: Nice. We'll take that.

CLIFF: That's gonna help.
We burn a lot of fuel.

NICK: Yep.
We got kids and expenses.

This will help.
We'll be back tomorrow.

SCOTT: All right. Sounds good.

NICK: All right, buddy.
SCOTT: Okay. Thanks, guys.

CLIFF: See you,bro.
SCOTT: See you later.
BRANDAN: We hope. We hope.

NICK: Time to
get back in the zone.

TREY: Right now,
I'm putting ballyhoo.

Same thing we had
out yesterday.

A ballyhoo with a green
head and a crystal skirt

over top of him.

Ellis is putting
a mullet back out.

I have more confidence
in the ballyhoo.

Looks like Jimmie got one.

Jimmie grew up fishing
with his dad on that boat.

He's a good fisherman.

And it's easy sometimes when
you don't have a lot on you.

He stills lives at home and
he just doesn't have that

burden of things,
you know, that weigh you down.

You know, for five years
I was out here fishing and

my daughter dealing with
cancer and I didn't have

my mind on fishing.

My daughter's better.

She's actually a nurse in
the HEM-ONC unit now where

she was treated.

Put the secret

I don't know.

The pink glows in the water,

it makes it easier
for the fish to see.

It's just a little different.

Maybe a bigger profile,
maybe a bigger fish will

wanna eat it.

GREG: Now there's four boats
that have three fish and

we're not one of them.

And of those boats, Shack's
got more experience fishing

out of Oregon Inlet than
the rest of them combined.

I don't know what
we're gonna do.

Keep circling around here,

maybe we'll get
a bite eventually,

or we won't.

GREG: Britton, he
has a brand new crew with him

this season though.

So he needs to walk
them through everything.

I've been with Billon
and Dirty for so long,

I don't even need to tell
them which tackle to use.

They do it all on their own.

DIRTY: It's just a bigger lure,

but this shape head will
be good for back there.

A little more bullet shape's
good for further back,

it'll stay in the water
versus a short cup head, so.

We'll see what we get.

as good an idea as any.
