Wicked Tuna: North vs. South (2014–…): Season 1, Episode 7 - From Rods to Riches - full transcript

As breakdowns and bad luck plague various boats in the Outer Banks' bluefin tuna fleet, it remains to be seen if a Northern boat will rise to the top of the leaderboard.

On this episode of
Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks...

That's him. That's him.
We're on!

While some boats
have all the luck...

- Look at 'em!
- Oh! Right there!

- Oh. We're on! We're on!
- We're on, we're on.

- We're on.
- Yeah!

...others see
their luck running out.

That's not good. Big mess.

And the race is on.

The Rasta stick's burning, baby.

Son of a bitch.

Before the final buzzer...

What's that?

We're taking on water here.

In a highly regulated fishery
that's trying to stay sustainable...

Bam! We're on, baby!

...every bluefin caught
takes a bite out of the quota...

- Yeah! Nice shot!
- That's another one.

...and every fisherman
has to battle...

Turn! Tighten me up! Tighten me up!

...for his fair share.

Yeah!

This is
Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks.

At the start of day 14,

only 40% of the quota is left to catch.

Southern boat Wahoo

is leading the fleet.

But Northern vessel Pin Wheel

is within striking distance

of the top spot.

Meanwhile the South's former

number one boat Fishin' Frenzy

has slipped to third place.

We gotta get rolling.
Make it happen.

Let's, uh, get this show on the road.

We're used to being
the number one boat around here.

And right now, we're fighting
to stay in third.

I'm not okay with this.

You just can't rest.
You just gotta go fishing.

Whenever you're ready,
I'm ready, Cap.

- Let's get out of here.
- All right, let's roll.

We gotta go out here and find 'em again.

There's a lot that comes
with being the number one boat.

Around here the top boats
run the most charters

and make the most money.

It's all about reputation.

There's not very much time left,
you know?

I miss a day here and don't catch a fish
and somebody catches two,

I mean, everybody's within
a couple fish of each other.

So this is crunch time now.
We gotta make every one count.

Right now, the boat right behind us
is the Hard Merchandise.

And the last thing I want
is him sneaking up

and knocking us further down the ladder.

The number two boat is Pin Wheel.

And that's totally unacceptable.

I don't want any Northerners
taking the lead,

especially these guys.

But worst of all,

we've got Wahoo
in the number one position.

And that sucks.

I always need to keep an eye on Reed,
or this is not gonna end well.

So we really need to catch today,
tomorrow, and every day after that.

This sucks, man.

We ain't had a bite yet.

Damn, dude.

Be like Reed
and go home early and then cry.

Oh, Greg! Greg caught two.

I'm glad I'm not Reed, dude.

I'm so glad I'm not Reed.

I kinda wish I was Reed,

so I can just punch myself
in the face repetitively.

Oh, boy.

We're out here fishing for Christ's sake.
How hard is it?

It's hard when
you're daddy's little rich... rich boy.

Wish my daddy give me a bunch a.

Rig your boat up with thousands,

tens of thousands of dollars'
worth of gear.

Can't make it with the big boys.

The more I think about it,
the more it pisses me off.

So that's what happens
when people give you.

Yeah, you don't respect it.

You don't respect nothing
when you ain't had to earn it.

Electronics, we have everything.

Autopilot, most important thing
on the boat.

Other guys are
definitely a little jealous.

We have the right gear to catch 'em,
land 'em, and sell 'em.

Altogether, I've got
seven VHF radios on here.

I like to know what's going on.

Nobody's gonna get one over on us.

I can listen to 50 different boats
at one time.

I scan every channel, hundreds of them.

Both of us suffer from
a little bit of OCD,

but Reed has a little more than I do.

Central heat and air conditioning.

We like to be comfortable out here.

We have on-board Internet while at sea
so we can get weather reports.

We can get water shots

so we can see where
the hot water breaks are.

Very imperative to catching fish.

Lot of boats haven't quite
moved up to this yet.

OCD might help you
on the fishing boat.

It's also called attention to detail.

So a lot of times that can help us.

We didn't get to be
the number one boat in the fleet

by slacking off on maintenance.

Hate to say it,

but the captain is pretty good
at maintaining stuff.

We got her all back together.

We're gonna hook up the hydraulic lines.

Bing.

Bada-bing, bada-bang.

We're back in action,
ready to fish with this reel.

Right now, we're ruling the Outer Banks.

I can't wait to get back out there

and try to increase our lead
over the other boats.

We're gonna find these fish.

It's taken us
almost two weeks to do it,

but we've managed to claw our way
into the number two spot.

We've got five fish under our belt,

and we're within spitting distance
of taking the lead.

The next fish we catch
could put us over the top.

And if it does, I'm dedicating this one
to the boys on the Wahoo.

You gotta jig it.

Oh, ! Missed that one.

You're jigging it too quick.

Do it gentle and-and let it...
There you go.

Now, up and down.

Easy does it.

You gotta do it easy.
Rhythm, you need rhythm.

I was going nuts,
and he came up on that one.

You can't...
No, it's not because of that.

It's like music.

You need rhythm with it.

You know what I mean?
Going like this doesn't do anything.

There he is.

. We got him on!

Fish, dump that.

Whoo!

We got him on, baby.

We dumping us.

Yo, let's get that back.

The Rasta stick's burning, baby.

Big stick goes pow!

Oh, no. Son of a bitch.

Pow goes the breaker.

That's all right. We'll get ours.

This is what we came here for!

- Let's get this mother, mother, mother.
- Let's get it, Paulie.

- Mother hunter.
- Woo-hew!

Right in the middle. Dude, we left late.

- Let's get this one in, right?
- Yes, yes, of course.

Listen to me. Don't leave me.

I'm right here.
I'm putting gloves on.

That's all I'm gonna do.

Whew.

What's going on now? There he is!

Watch yourself.

I'm just gonna get this bead out of this.

He's nice.

Ruin his bitch ass.

We'll just gaff him.

Stick it in him.

Got him.

- Gaff?
- Coming your way.

Should be right there.

I had one out, Tyler.

Ready? Other side of me.

- How's your tail?
- Woo-hoo!

- We ain't got him yet, dude.
- You got him?

Come on, Paul, get the tail rope,
get the tail rope, Paul.

Come on, Paulie.

- Whoo! Woo-hoo!
- Hold on. I ain't got him yet.

- Hold on.
- I'm sorry, I get so excited!

Hold on, hold on,
hold on, hold on.

We got him! Woo-hoo!

I guarantee you, by the time
this week is over,

the North is gonna be taking over
the Outer Banks,

and the Pin Wheel is gonna be
the boat that does it.

Nice little fish.

Is this the fish that puts us in the lead?

I don't know.

But it's a great way to start the day.

81 inches.

81 incher, dude.
Can't go wrong with that.

Yo, fish are smashing right there.

We gotta get back fishing.

Holy.

Let's get squared away here.

This is high-intensity fishing.
We gotta catch up to the South.

They're catching fish.
We gotta catch fish.

Yeah,
we marked a couple singles.

Keep seeing these big fish,

but we can't seem to get 'em to go.

How deep were the marks?

20 fathom.

Since we've been down here
in the Outer Banks,

we've gotten four fish.

And none of those have been
what you call record-breakers.

We're holding on with white knuckles
to fourth place right now.

Where I come from,
there's no such thing as fourth place.

It's like the Olympics,

you've got gold, silver, bronze,
and the losers.

The tuna gods are definitely
not happy with us,

but we got no choice.

We gotta get some of these fish.

Come on up, fish.

Oh.

Let's get an early bite here.

All right, there's something
way up high, way up high.

I don't know if it's just bait or fish,
but something.

- Oh! We're on, we're on!
- We're on, we're on.

We're on.

That's a big boy.

- That's a big fish.
- I guess they were fish, Jay.

- That's a big fish.
- Yeah.

Hey, you know what, Jay?

- You wanna move it?
- Yeah.

First, get this one out.

And then we're gonna go under.

- Get that one clear.
- Yep.

Get it in any holder.

Attaboy.

Put it in gear, Jay, put it in gear.
Stretch him out.

Watch the line.

Ah,.

It looks like our lines are crossed.

How did that get like that?

I see that pulley start to jerk,

and I know right away
the fish we got on that rod

is crossing the bandit line.

If those lines cross, we'll lose the fish.

It's going towards our bandit.

Let's go, Jay.

Son of a bitch!

Watch the line.

Ah,.

It looks like our lines are crossed.

It's going towards our bandit.

He's crossed our bandit lines.

And if we don't act fast,
he's gonna tangle up those lines,

break 'em all, escape to freedom
with a story for his friends.

Sorry, Charlie, this is gonna be my story.

All right, we'll do it one at a time here.

You just stay on that rod for a sec,
buddy, all right?

Yep.

I don't know if he's there.

Let's go, Jay.

Son of a bitch!

He's there.

All right, we're clear now.
That's what we wanted.

You want me to start
chasing him down a little?

No, we're just gonna
get this out of the way.

Little nervous for a sec,
the way he crossed over that,

our bandit here,
you know what I mean?

You saw it was tangled.

That could've spelled disaster,

could've been over as quick as it started.

But we got him clear. Jay did a good job.

We just gotta get this bandit
out of the way

so we can focus on that fish on the rod.

And hopefully we'll get this guy
in the boat.

Bam! We're on, baby!

Hard Merchandise is on a tuna!

It's a big fish!

Coming up and doing a dipsy.

- All right, ready?
- Yep.

This fish is gonna be worth
another five grand, maybe more.

He feels like a decent one,

but we're a long way
from putting him on deck.

If we can get this one
nice and early,

we'll have a shot at getting
another fish today.

Go, kick it, kick it, kick it.

Have a strap ready
and your gaff, buddy, yep.

Any minute now we should
start to see him down there.

Coming up.

He's doing nice, deep circles.

Get him, get him, get him, get him.

There he is.

- There he is.
- That's tuna fish!

It does look like
a nice bit of color down there.

Oh, yeah. Deep color, deep color.

Keep 'em coming.

All right, Jay,
get ready, we'll switch here, buddy.

There it is, there it is,
there it is, there it is.

- Ready?
- Hit him.

Yeah! Perfect.

We ain't got him yet.

Take the harpoon. It's unclipped.

All right, Jay, over to the other cleat.

You got a second one on him, right?

Nope, grab him.

Get him up
high now. That one's not on very good.

- I need more slack.
- Get him up higher.

Got him. Tail's up.

- Yeah, Jay, all right.
- Yeah!

Nice. We did it.
That's how we like it.

Great work, Jay.

It's a nice fish, Dave.

Here we go, Jay, coming up.

Go ahead.

Flip him over.

74.

Barely legal.

About an inch over the legal limit.

Not a monster, but it's a nice fish.

We know Pin Wheel's got one,
and we got one.

It's definitely given us an edge.

Those Southern boats have been on fire.

It's anybody's game.

Good job, guys.
Way to go, Tyler, Paul.

You wanna see what we got?

- Let's do it. Let's go.
- Yeah, pull him out.

We've had a good day so far.

This isn't the biggest fish
we've brought in,

but we're hoping this could
put us in the lead.

81, 225.

Now, he's 220.

All right, let's see
what she weighs.

I need huge money.
Just remember that.

So do we.

218 pounds.

- 218.
- Yeah!

Let's check it out.

This is the moment of truth.

- This is the real deal right here.
- Pedigree right here.

Nice fish.

No fat, though.

Right now, with so many fish around,

this not being the best fish
I've seen down here.

Right now, with the market
the way it is...

$14 a pound.

This tuna has
less body fat than Tyler.

Would I like it to be
a 600-pound dresser

at 30 bucks a pound?

Absolutely!

But this could put us at number one.

But if Wahoo get another big fish,

they could put us right back in second.

All right, Dave,
got another fish, huh?

Yeah, yeah, we got another one.

- Another little one.
- Nice.

It looks like
a nice one, though,

a nice little butterball.

Just 'cause it's small
doesn't mean it's not nice.

I'm sure you get that a lot.
Don't worry about it.

Good things
come in small packages.

- That's what she said, too.
- Yeah?

Let's find out.

This is fish number five for us.

And I know that gets us even
with the Wahoo

and maybe even Frenzy.

Of course, we don't get
into the running

unless this fish brings us
a big, fat payday.

Let's see what she weighs.

180 pounds.

180 pounds.

All right, let's check out the quality.

Let's see the money.

The money cut.

- Consistent, consistent.
- Nice, good core.

The core's nice.

The color's really nice.

It's got a real good amount of fat.

All right, so bottom line,
Lucas, how much per pound?

18 bucks a pound.

- Nice.
- Perfect.

We can do that, Jay,
we can do that. Well done.

This fish dressed out at 180 pounds.

We got $18 a pound for it.

That's over three grand.

We're happy with that.

All right, thank you, man, thank you.

Go back out there,
get some more.

All right,
we'll see you, we'll see you.

All right, guys, good luck.

Hopefully we'll be in
soon with another one.

Is it good enough to leapfrog us
to number one?

No.

But is it good enough to make me think
the next couple days

are gonna turn things around
for the Hard Merchandise?

Hell yes.

Here they are.

That is tuna.

Wow.

Right now, we're in third place.

I can't let up.

I don't like being in third place.

I wanna be back up on top.

What it tells me is I need to go
out there and catch some fish

and not let these other guys
catch up to me.

Why don't you bite?
I know you're gonna bite.

I know you're gonna bite!

Long rigger!

- We're on.
- That's him, that's him.

We just had a left long bite.

It's gonna be a bluefin,
taking some drag.

We're on. Ha, ha!

Get this stuff clear.

Hopefully we'll get lucky
and get this one, bud.

We need it, man.
Here it goes! Woo-hoo-hoo!

Taking some drag!

That's a real one, Cap.

Whoo! He's going fast.

He ain't got my nose stretched,
knows my line's slack.

Crank.

Turn! Tighten me up! Tighten me up!

Throw her ahead, throw her ahead.

There you go.

Just get me out of that rod, you know.

There you go.

Pretty work. Thank you, thank you.

Yeah, baby.

Pulling some drag.

Fish must've been coming at us.

I was cranking, cranking, cranking.

The line wasn't tight.

When I tell the captain that,

you know, "Tighten me up,
tighten me up,"

that just means put me in gear,
put the boat in gear,

and go away from the fish
to keep the line tight.

That's better than it getting slack.

If it gets slack, the chances
of him getting away increase.

He's not taking
anything now, is he?

Yeah, going good.

- He's going good?
- Yeah.

I just want to get ahead
of him a little bit,

give me a chance
to get some line back.

We really need this one.

We gotta get every one we can.

This is the one that's gonna
put us in the lead to stay.

This felt like a nice fish.
He took a lotta line.

I had to light right much heat on him,
and he was still goin'.

Been out here all day.
Put in a full day's work.

And it ain't over.

Gotta turn up into him more.

Yeah, I know,
he's up ahead of us.

He's still way ahead of us,
it's what I don't like.

Yeah, I just don't like
not knowing where he's at.

Might be another
one of those 95 inchers, 90 incher.

You're all right,
just let him run and run out there.

Nice fish, it's gonna be
a very nice fish.

This right now is gonna be
a $7,000, $8,000, $10,000 fish.

We don't even know.

Kinda kicking my ass here.

Reel! Reel! Reel!

All right. Oh, oh, oh!

Ohh!

Come on, Nick!

Oh, my back.

This right now is gonna
be a $7,000, $8,000, $10,000 fish.

We don't even know.

Steady going, Cap.

Kinda kicking my ass here.

Reel! Reel! Reel!

All right. Oh, oh, oh!

Ohh!

Come on, Nick!

Oh, my back.

Oh, come on.

Fat, lazy mate.

I'm out of shape.

The fish wasn't very deep.

He was just stretched out.

The Captain chased him down with the boat

while I cranked up
all the slack at warp speed.

Wore me out pretty good.

We gotta work
for every inch of it right now.

Fish is down kinda deep,

and we're out here
at about 500 fathoms.

He's down there 500, 600 foot
just lying there,

hanging out where it's cool,
saving his energy.

There you go.

He's definitely a heavy fish.

Here he comes.
This your chance, this is your chance.

Right here. Right here, Cap.

Right there, Cap! Yeah!

- Yeah, baby!
- Yeah, nice shot!

That's what we want.

Off to your right.

You know I got him.

- Pretty work, bud.
- We got him!

Thing about killed me.

Fat and old. My back!

You know, hand's over him raw,

hunched over that cover-board,
I ain't very in shiz-ape.

Stoked.

We're now ahead of the Wahoo.

Take that,
you whiny little bitch.

Yeah, that's right.

We're putting the North down another fish.

It pays off to stay out here,
and put your time in,

and do it right like a fisherman should.

You fish until you catch 'em.

You don't catch 'em, you stay.

You can't just be like,

"Oh, man, I'd like to be home
eating supper with the old lady,

and, you know, get me
a good night's sleep."

You ain't even going end up
with very much if you want that.

You gotta go hard every day.

That's what we've been doing,
and that's why we got him.

One, two, three.

Good Lord.

Nice fish.

- Good-looking fish.
- Wow!

Holy.

He's gonna be worth
a lot of money.

Yeah, baby.

- 87 inches.
- Look at that.

I'm hoping this fish
brings us ahead of the Wahoo.

I'd like to remind those guys

who the real kings
of the Outer Banks are.

Yeah, that's right.

Here comes Frenzy again.
This guy's on fire.

Yeah, I'm not surprised
they caught another fish.

Nope.

- It's like clockwork.
- Nonstop.

We're about to weigh a tuna here.

I hope this fish puts us ahead.

I'm not used to playing
second fiddle to anybody,

whether it be the Pinhead
or the Wah-hoo.

How'd you catch this one? Rod?

- Caught him on a rod, yeah.
- Oh, yeah?

It should be nice quality, really.

251 pounds dressed.

- Yeah.
- All right, yeah, I'll take it.

Sweet.

Better than nothing.

All right, let's see
what this thing's worth.

It's just like veal, dude.

Good-looking fish, huh?

Yeah, once again a clear core.

Good core. No burn, but...

So what are you seeing
on that one there, Lucas?

You got, uh...

you got nothing
but red meat here, Greg.

No fat at all.

- Been a lot of that.
- Yeah.

- Too much of it.
- Yeah.

The most you're gonna get...

eight bucks a pound.

- Eight bucks?
- Eight.

Hey, man, two grand.

Yeah, a little over
two grand, something like that.

For most guys, a $2,000 day
is a dream come true.

For me, it's nowhere near
what I need to be back in the top spot.

My biggest fear is hearing
that the Wahoo or the Pinhead

has bragging rights
as number one boat in the Outer Banks.

Any day now, Greg,
you're gonna have a $20,000 day.

I feel it.

I'm sure, that's why
we're going out there every day.

- We're looking for it.
- That's what I picture

every time a rod bends over, Cap.

Got it? Okay.

Yep.

Yesterday, we brought in a good fish.

And I don't wanna lose
whatever edge that gives us.

We may not end today
as the top boat in the fleet,

but we're gonna at least wind up
in that top three.

Whoa!

What's that?

Oh!

Oh, crap, there's a leak somewhere.

Well, we got some kinda leak.

We're taking on water here.
I gotta stop.

All right, I'm gonna need my wrenches.

You can open them up here.

We have to fix it.
We have to solve the problem.

We have to at least stop
the water from coming in.

Pain in my ass.

We were taking on water.

It's the raw water pump.

That's where we suck water
from the ocean to cool the engine.

Here's my problem,

so this is the impeller,
it spins around, drives the water.

What's going on is
there's a washer on the backside.

Then the washer's doing this
with the pump,

and metal against metal,

it essentially cut its way right through.

Fortunately we caught it,
we didn't get the motor all wet,

but I'm a little concerned,

'cause I don't know
where the hell I'm gonna get parts

for this in North Carolina.

Unless Jay's got one in his back pocket.

This couldn't happen at a worse time.

This is gonna cost us
time on the water we can't afford

and money I just don't have.

But we don't have any choice.

If we don't want
the Hard Merchandise to end up

at the bottom of the Outer Banks,

we gotta head in
and get this taken care of today.

We haven't really seen any fish,

really haven't gotten
any good news or reports,

but we're here,
so we're gonna put 'em out,

see if there's anything hungry
swimming around.

I hope these fish show up soon.

I'm like a junkie
for these things. I need a fix!

I know, I'm starting
to have withdrawals.

Oh,.

Oh,.

Oh! That's not good.

Want it outta gear?

Yeah.

What the?

Big mess.

Um, what the?

nuts, dude.

You gotta keep
so much line on these hydraulic spools,

it just sometimes slips off the side.

All right, stop cranking
on the reel.

Let me let it out here.

don't you get about this?

We're gonna have to
let it back out, like, a lot.

Yeah, no.

All right, we're good.

Good thing is there wasn't a fish
on right then,

'cause had there been a fish
connected to the line,

we would've lost everything.

He would've broke the line,

maybe got my finger caught in it,
rip a finger off.

Uh-oh.

A.

Damn it.

That's not good either.

Are we disconnected somewhere?.

Our hydraulic system failed.

If the flow isn't going
in the right direction,

the reel won't come in.

Shut 'em down, shut 'em down.

Something ain't right.

We're disconnected somewhere.

Holy.

Uh-oh.

A.

Damn it.

We're disconnected somewhere.

We just got through fixing
a bad tangle in our bandit reel.

Unspooled the line,
make sure it's working,

and now I can't reel it back in.

You don't have 'em
on backwards, do you?

That'd be impossible.

ain't right.

We're disconnected somewhere.

That's impossible.

What the is going on here?

I see Reed's mouth moving,

but all I hear is blah, blah, blah.

We ain't got nothing going through it?

Nuts.

This has never happened, ever.

It's physically impossible
for this to do this.

The fluid flows in one direction
per the hydraulic pump.

And right now, mysteriously,
it's backwards.

Our hydraulic system failed
because our two hoses got reversed.

There's no real logical explanation
for why the hoses got switched

other than someone's
probably messing with us.

This is some.

What my knucklehead brother
doesn't seem to recall

is he replaced those hoses yesterday.

So there's really no mystery
who did it. He did it.

This'll make a good conversation
piece at our next family dinner.

Explain to me.

It's backwards.

We've established this.

Reed is definitely stubborn
and set in his ways,

a little bit strange,
but also a little bit funny.

Fishing with each other
and growing up with one another,

you kinda get used to these things,
so, uh, nothing new to me.

I love my brother to death.

He is a good captain,
but damn he can be sometimes.

take a wrench
and switch 'em.

You ready?

Yeah.

Amazing.

This is.

I'm extremely pissed
that I'm out here stopped in the water

dealing with mechanical issues.

We should be pulling fish
through the door,

not playing with wrenches.

You going the speed?

I got 'em, right off my bow.

Wahoo's the number one boat right now,

but I'm more concerned with
Fishin' Frenzy Greg.

He's the best fisherman down here.
He's the one to beat.

It's his backyard,
and I wanna take him out in it.

Oh, yeah, I can see
all the fish in there rolling, Tyler.

Being number two
is just first loser,

and that ain't cool with me.

I wanna be number one.

I wanna show these Southern boys
and these Northern boys

that I can catch 'em
no matter where we are.

Carolina, Gloucester, it don't matter.

I'll still smoke you
whether it's your backyard or not.

You can smell 'em.

I smell 'em.

I smell 'em.

I smells 'em.

The Fishin' Frenzy and the Wahoo

are keeping the South ahead of us.

We're doing whatever we can
to stop these guys.

We really need to catch a fish today.

Where are those birds?

They dispersed.

Where are these fish?

My main goal is to make money
to support my family.

And of course,
I wanna kick everyone's butt.

I'm not okay with someone else beating us.

How about that
radiation leak in Japan?

Over in the Pacific,

They love it.

When we're not catching,
Nick's got too much time to think.

They're badass. It's like ,

Badass.

We've just got word

that Pin Wheel and the Hard Merch

That hurts.

Every fish they catch
just puts us further away

from our goal to be on top.

And I can't live with that.

It's on now.

We're on! We're on!

Ha, ha!

Okay, let's see
what we got here now.

- Still there?
- Oh, yeah.

Here we go.

That's a $5,000 fish, baby.

I got him, Cap. Let me take over.

- Okay, go ahead, go to work.
- Just to keep you ready.

It ain't no
sea monster, but it's gonna be big enough.

I'm just trying to run up on the line.

The fish is way up sea of us.

So I'm running up ahead
to get ahead of the fish.

Just staying up high,
kinda swimming the same speed as the boat.

I can't really tell much
about him, he's up high.

Lot of times the trolling fish
will fool you.

He's not acting
like he's all that big,

but you never know with these things.

A lot of times they won't do anything.

Sometimes they're deceiving.

You know, this could be
an 80 incher, could be a 72 incher.

He could be big enough.

It's kinda hard to tell right now.
He's not doing a whole lot.

Getting close, Cap.

Swivel!

Dart that son of a bitch. Let's go, Cap!

He could be big enough.

So we're just gonna

**** that's a bigeye!

There's all kinds of tuna
in these waters.

There's yellowfin, blackfin,

bluefin, and bigeyes.

It's a nice fish to eat off of
for a couple weeks

and put in the freezer.

But it's not what we're after,
and it won't count towards our haul.

How about that?

Bigeye tuna.

We're here for bluefin tuna.

And while we waste our time
hauling in something else,

guys like Marciano and Pinhead

We got us a tuna,
but it's the wrong kinda tuna.

- Get that, Jay.
- Yeah.

Hey, guys. What's going on?

How's it going, man?

Good. What can I do for you?

Uh, I hope you can help me out.

The bite's on,

and I got a problem
with my raw water pump.

What was it doing?

In the middle of the night
all of a sudden

the high water alarms start going off,

we think we're going down, and--

Nice, nice.

The backing plate
cut right through

the side of the pump.

Can you give me a rough idea
what I'm looking at here?

Uh...

Yeah, I'll tell you, man. Um...

Everything, $1,099.52.

Jeez.

The bite's on. I'm here to fish.
I can't fish without this pump.

I don't have a choice.
I need it to go fishing.

All right, so $1,099.50.

Wow, Jay. This leaves us
pretty much penniless after this.

Maybe 40 bucks, and then we're done.

- Yeah.
- Okay.

- Here we are, my friend.
- All right, buddy.

Thank you very much.

All right,
thanks for helping me out.

- Thank you.
- Yep.

We're hemorrhaging money
and we aren't earning.

This is our last thousand bucks.

We gotta make this part work.

You weren't planning on getting
paid this week, were you?

All right, Jay, let's get started.

Okay, get the wrench, Jay.

Dave, you know
the bite's on, right?

Yeah, I know,
I hear they're getting a few, Jay.

We gotta get out there.

You know, hopefully
we'll be able to find those guys

and get right on the meat, you know.

Yeah, but who knows.
Tomorrow it could be over.

Yeah. Well, I think it'll last
more than one day, but we hope so.

We need to get in on the big party.

And naturally, too, Jay, just like always,

when we start steaming,
'cause we worked on these hoses...

Yeah.

You know, we gotta be
wary of 'em popping off.

You know the deal,

just be keeping an eye
on that high water alarm.

All right, now the moment of truth.

If anything goes wrong
and it doesn't work,

we could lose the whole day
on the water.

And we just can't afford that.

It works.

Okay, that's a huge relief.

And we've got a few hours
of daylight left.

And those bluefin better be ready,
'cause we mean business.

If it's flowing, we're going.

Dude, we got
the rainbow squids going out.

Yeah!

There's tunas around,
we need to get a bite,

so it's any means necessary.

Yesterday was a bit
of a disappointment.

We caught a bluefin,
but it was small by our standards,

and it really didn't pay off.

This looks awesome.

I would bite that squid,
wouldn't you?

We're gonna get a quadruple hookup.

Hope we get 'em on.

Holy.

Jig the stick.
We've got 'em under us, Paulie.

Markin'?

Yes, sir.

Who says a tuna fisherman
can't be Rocky Balboa?

Maybe a one-two punch
is what it's gonna take

to catch a big one.

We'll get a bite soon enough.

Only a matter of time.

This is it.

I don't know what the rest
of the fleet caught today.

But between yesterday's fish
and today's fish,

we stocked $8,000 in tunas.

That's definitely enough
to take the top spot.

Pin Wheel, baby!

At the end of day 15,

Pin Wheel's two-fish haul

launches them into the top spot,

and gives them a significant lead

over Southern boats Wahoo
and Fishin' Frenzy,

while Hard Merchandise's

$3,200 tuna helps make up

for their repair expenses.

And after weigh-ins across the fishery,

now only 38% of the quota

is left to catch.

I definitely don't think
Pinhead's much of a threat.

Everybody gets on a roll, catches fish.

That could quickly go away.

Right now, we're in third place.

And that does worry me a little bit.

But I'm confident
that we can catch some fish

and get back on top.

It's not an easy job,

but hopefully we won't get
any more curveballs

and we can keep catching our share

before the fishery is tapped out.
