The Voice UK (2012–…): Season 3, Episode 7 - Blind Auditions 7 - full transcript

TOM JONES: Each coach wants to get the best team.

Yeah!

- RICKY WILSON: - I think Will's going to keep till the very last person.

I don't want to do that this year. That's the truth.

KYLIE MINOGUE: I'm expecting the unexpected

but I'll fight the whole way.

I don't know what Ricky's going to do.

I'm just going to play the game my way, I think.

I'll have the best team, and if they don't already know,

then I'll tell them.

It's all up in the air. You never know what's going to happen.

This is real hard.

He has a lot of girls on his team.

I've been waiting for a male voice.

- Whoo! - Boom, into my chest. Straight there.

Tell me what to do!

He's playing a dangerous game.

- We ain't got time to mess around here. - No!

Sorry.

Fine. You've done it.

Our teams are getting full up.

- I want to hit my buzzer. - It's coming like it's Adelaide, baby.

999 call, please.

To town centre. Approximately 30-year-old female.

I take my job very seriously

because sometimes it literally can be life or death.

999 code activated.

So when someone calls 999, it's my job to allocate the nearest

ambulance to the call so that they get the help as fast as possible.

The time when I appreciate that my job is important

is not when I'm there.

It's when I'm on the way home and I'm thinking about everything that's

happened that day and it is quite important to leave it at the door.

Ever since I was a little boy, I've wanted to sing,

and I've never done anything big but it's what I want to do.

I'm used to dealing with stress on a daily basis,

but this is a totally different type of pressure.

Oh, yeah. Oh! Here we go!

Oh, look at Will's little face!

# She said, hey sister

# It's really, really nice to meet ya

# I just met this five foot seven guy who's just my type

# I like the way he's speaking

# His confidence is peaking

# Don't like his baggy jeans but I'mma like what's underneath them

# And no, I ain't been to MIA

# I heard that Cali never rains and New York's heart awaits

# First let's see the West End

# I'll show you to my brethren

# I'm liking this... #

- Push it! - Go on! Go on! - Push!

# Take me on a trip I'd like to go some day

# Take me to New York, I'd like to see LA

# I really want to come kick it with you

# Won't you be my American boy?

# So won't you be mine, girl?

# Would you be mine?

# Would you be my love?

# Would you be mine?

# Would you be my love?

# Would you be my American boy?

# American boy, whoa-oh

# Take me to Chicago, San Francisco Bay

# I really want to come kick it with you

# I'm liking this American boy

- # American... - Can I dip you?

# Boy. #

Whoo! Hi, I'm Tom Barnwell. I'm 26. I'm from Stratford and I'm...

Thank you. And I'm an ambulance controller.

- Ambulance?

So you have, like, a Madonna mic on and you're, like...

I have a Madonna mic on, yeah. That's right. I love it.

I didn't expect all of you to turn around.

- Thank you. - Aww. Thanks for kicking the dancing off there.

That was cool.

Yeah. There's a moment that happens when we face the other way.

Just go like that and you get into it.

- We lost ourselves, so you did an awesome job. - Thank you so much.

You have a big decision ahead of you.

Someone's going to have to take over control.

Tom.

Well, the reason I didn't get up to dance with everybody else was I was still listening and looking.

It's not that I can't get up and dance because I think...

I can still get up and dance. I've been dancing a long time.

But I love the way you sound. You just sounded different.

You had a fresh approach, which is great,

- and I liked the whole thing. - Thank you so much.

- All right, Tom. - Hello. - I want to say it was really great.

That's the first time we've got up and danced.

I can't remember why I pushed, you know? It just happened.

- Like you said. - Yeah. - I'm stealing your pitch. - Take it.

It just happened.

Anyway, it was really, really good. We all enjoyed it, obviously.

Thank you guys so much. Thank you.

I could feel you were singing from your heart. It was really good.

- Thank you. - What's up, Tom? - I'm good. How are you? - I'm good.

You were really good. What I like about it

is the Tom touch you added to it. Not that Tom.

Your Tom.

So that song that you sang, it means a lot to me, that particular song.

It was 2006, right? I started working on this beat.

And then John Legend comes in.

He says, "What are you going to do with that?"

I was like, "I don't know. I'm just messing with it."

He was like, "I got this girl named Estelle. Can she have that?"

I'm like, "Um, all right." And it turned into American Boy. So...

But the thing is that whole thing happened in an hour and a half,

so my point is -

dude, I know how to do that kind of stuff all day in, like,

an hour and a half.

This is so good. You are all amazing people. Um... But...

I think it's going to be will.i.am.

- Good job. Really good. - Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you.

- Good choice. - It's so great to meet you, darling. - Very proud.

Very proud of him.

- Thank you. - All right, Tom.

Where I grew up was a coal mining area. They were working class people.

I felt that if I could make a living out of singing,

that would be perfection.

I knew that it wasn't just going to happen overnight.

Millions of people want to be footballers, train drivers...

When I was eight, I wanted to be ET.

And it didn't happen.

# Forever. Come on and sing along

# Sing it!

# All night long

# All night

# All night long

# Yeah

I love my job so much, dealing with the lovely public.

- This is lovely. - That is nice, isn't it?

- Yeah! Whoo! - I think Johnny thinks he is a megastar already.

Many times I've climbed into bed with an older woman.

# Come join the party

# See how we play

I really liked it, man. You are definitely a singer.

- What do you do for a living? - I sell beds for a living.

So I'll give youse a good deal if you ever want to come down and see me.

will.i.am. I can look after you.

I don't want to be up all night.

Kylie, do you mind being up all night?

The coaches are in the business of making careers.

Every single coach at one point in time was a diamond in the rough,

and with belief, we were able to craft our dream into a reality.

It can happen to you at any time.

When the opportunity comes, you just got to grab it.

# Bet you're wondering how I knew

# About your plans to make me blue

# Some other guy I knew before

- I work for a large supermarket as a demonstrator. Ooh! - Sorry.

That's the person that's trying to coax you into trying the product.

- Does anyone fancy a nibble? - Can I just take one for my son? - Yeah.

Ay, you got two there, you naughty person.

You could put anything in the mouths of people in Blackpool.

I basically have fun with people.

# Don't you know I heard it through the grapevine?

# And I'm just about to lose my mind

# Honey, honey, I heard... #

- I like your dress. - Do you?

- It's very Hawaiian. - Do you think he's coming on to me?

- He's getting nervous. - I am nervous. - You've made will.i.am shy. - Really?

You are entertaining.

- You're made for it. Carry on. - Oh, thank you.

I worked on building sites when I was young and I sang at night,

but I was always singing.

It can be done if you want it bad enough.

I always had proper jobs but I never really took them seriously.

I was a lecturer at Leeds College of Art and Design. Don't put that in.

# It's always darkest before the dawn

# Shake it out, shake it out

# Shake it out, shake it out # Whoa

# Shake it out, shake it out

# Shake it out, shake it out

# And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back

# So shake him off... #

If it doesn't happen today and I don't get a turn from a coach,

I will be going back to a bar job, which is a bit sad.

There you are. That's £4.60, please.

- It's a good backup plan. - What? A backup plan?

Your backup plan should be making your dream happen.

That's your plan...

And the @ symbol cos that's where it's at.

# Shake it out, shake it out # Shake it out... #

I only have one space left on my entire team.

I'm sorry about the timing of that on my part.

What are your aspirations as far as a career?

I've always dreamed of singing my own songs and singing big stadiums.

Just don't give up, you know? You have an amazing voice.

I won't give up.

There is no such thing as not making your dream happen.

He's a really cool guy.

Like, he's so funny and he's like your mate more than anything.

There's definitely a role reversal going on here.

I'm going to be in front of four great coaches who know

what they're talking about so that'd be good. Get it going the other way.

Surrounded by these glamorous ladies, Gary. How'd you do it?

Showbiz. That's why I started doing it.

- My name's Gary. - So Gary, what band were you in?

- It was probably before your time. - Try me. Try me.

It was a band called Troi. We did quite well of it.

Isn't that a name?

HE SINGS # 24/7, 365

# I'm gonna love you, baby. #

- I do know that song. - There you go.

I don't really feel that my career has not really happened.

It's one of those things. Most people don't make it in music.

I think there's much more for me to achieve.

I think if you think you're there, you're clearly deluding yourself.

- He looks cool. - Yeah. He looks the part.

# Well, sometimes I go out by myself

# I look across the water

# And I think to myself, "What you doing?"

# I paint a picture

# Come on over, baby

# Stop making a fool out of me

- Will, push the button! Come on, Will! - Come on!

# Why don't you come on over, Valerie?

# Valerie... #

Come on. Don't leave it too late.

# Valerie, darling

# Valerie, baby.

# I say... # Since you been gone

Yes!

# I miss your ginger hair and the way you like to dress

# Come on over, baby

# Stop making a little bitty fool out of me

# Say, why don't you come on over, Valerie?

# Valerie

- Push it, Tom! - Push it, Tom.

# Come on over, Valerie. #

- Whoo! - Thank you.

- Wow. Thank you. - All right, what's your name? - My name's Gary.

I'm 48 years old. I've had record deals, lost record deals. I'm here.

- Pick me, choose me, mould me. - Where are you based out of? - London.

- East London. - You look Puerto Rican.

- I'm mixed race, actually. - Really? - Yeah. - What races?

- Caribbean and English. - I'm mixed race too. - Yeah? With what?

- Lithuanian and Chinese. - Oh, nice.

I can see that now, now you said that.

- Well, wherever you're from, you were smoo-ooth. - Thank you. Thank you.

You didn't turn, though.

I didn't because I have someone in the same area as you.

- I hope that's true, Kylie. - But... It is true!

The thing is, you're in.

- SHE SINGS - # One way or another... #

You are in. So you'll know that that's true. But that was awesome.

Thank you very much.

- Tom. - Yeah. - Sir. - Yeah! Yeah!

- So, on my team at the moment, I have mostly ladies. - Right.

- So I have one man. - Thank you. Thank you for turning. Thank you, sir.

- Everyone's music career... No-one's goes like that. - Nope.

- They all go like that. - Yeah. - And you've got to accept that.

- And I just think... - I have.

- You've just gone like that in the last five minutes. - Thank you.

Appreciate that.

All right, well,...

I'm going to go with Tom, if that's OK.

- Welcome. - Thank you. - What a gorgeous smile. - Thank you.

- You have been great. - Thank you so much.

Well done, Gary. Well done!

- Great. He had a great voice. - Yeah. He can sing and that's what I like.

Gary!

- Well done, Gary. - Thank you. - Well done.

# You DJ, pump this party

# Why waste your time?

# You know you're gonna be mine

- THEY SING - # I'm gonna get you, baby # I'm gonna get, yes I am

# I'm gonna get you baby

# I'm gonna get you, yes I am. #

- Love that. That's a massive tune. It's huge. - It's 20 years old.

- # Why waste your time... - Yeah. - That's huge.

That must have been, like, amazing for you.

It was totally an amazing time.

It's a great feeling to be a part of something that was so successful.

I've never had a track out that has been as big as

"I'm Gonna Get You". It's never happened again.

I don't want to be a one-hit wonder.

I want to prove to myself that I've still got it.

Oh, come on, Mummy!

# Why waste your time?

# You know you're gonna be mine...

- Go, Angie! - # You know you're gonna be mine

# Why waste your time

# You know you're gonna be mine

# You know you're gonna be mine

# You know you're gonna be mine

# Why waste your time?

# You know you're gonna be mine

# You know you're gonna be mine

# You know you're gonna be mine... #

Come on!

# You know you're gonna be mine

# You know you're gonna be mine

# you know you're gonna be my baby

# Gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, yes, I am

# Gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, yes, I am

# Gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, yes, I am

# Gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, yes, I am

# Why waste your time

# You know you're gonna be

# You-you-you-you You know

# Why waste your time? Why waste your time? #

- Come on! Push the button! - Please, somebody got to push the button!

# My-my-my-my, oh, yeah!

# I'm

# I'm gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, baby

# I'm gonna get you, baby

# Yes, I am. #

- No. - Nobody.

- Hi. - Hi. - What's your name?

My name's Angie Brown and I had a hit with that song in 1992.

Oh, my...!

The reaction. Look.

It was a very long time ago.

Well, it was a little while ago, and I was in the clubs dancing to it,

- weekend after weekend after weekend. - Thank you.

- It was amazing and what a pleasure to hear you sing it live. - Thank you.

Cos I've only heard it in the club!

I've always loved that song.

I never thought I would meet the person that sung that song.

Why is that important for me? We were recording "Boom Boom Pow"

and we were coming up with the bridge part.

I'm like, "Fergie, you hear this song right here?

"I need you to do it like this."

When she says, "People in the place, if you wanna get down.

"Put your hands in the air."

I played your song for the power on that section.

So I never thought I was going to meet you one day.

Thank you so much.

I didn't turn around only

because the stage that we are in this competition...

I could be wrong. We all could be wrong.

It's no different than a relationship, right?

That one that got away. You could be that one that got away.

Yeah. I just really wanted to come here

and see what the reaction was going to be.

But, you know, you didn't turn around but what can I say?

I'm going to hold my head up high.

I am a singer.

- KYLIE AND TOM: - Yes, you are.

# Yes, I am! #

- KYLIE: Boys are scrambling to help you. - Oh. - Yeah.

- It's a real pleasure to meet you. - Oh, thank you. Thank you, Kylie.

Oh, Ricky Wilson.

I am feeling proud of myself.

Everybody does still know the song

and hopefully they'll remember the singer.

I've been thinking about my team and I'm looking at the board.

I want a real variety.

What I want is to hear something and to have no choice

but to hit the button.

- will.i.am: - This is hard. - This is real hard.

I'm looking out for a girl. When I hear the voice that moves me,

I'll be pressing the button and that's it.

Most of my team are ladies and I need a man.

I'm waiting for someone to bring the freaking thunder.

Something's out there. Bam.

LUCIEE MARIE CLOSIER: My family are a typical Essex family.

We all sit around the sofa, get together, watch telly, have banter.

We're just really close.

And Tommy. Tommy'll be like...

My dad has a massive thing for Kylie. He proper fancies her.

- It's funny. Every dad that comes here... - Wonder why?

- They all want Kylie. - Do you know what I think the attraction is?

- Because she's beautiful. - We're both small.

Luciee's been waiting for two years to turn 16 to do this show

cos the minute that it came on she absolutely loved it.

She couldn't wait to apply,

and to be at this stage, it's brilliant.

Wasn't long ago I was sitting on the sofa, closing my eyes,

listening to other people sing.

It's just mad how I'm here now. I'm so nervous.

- Ooh! Oh, my God! Look. - Come on, baby.

# Every night I go

# Every night I go sneaking out the door

# Little black butterflies

Come on!

# What would my mama do

# If she knew about me and you, boy?

# What would my daddy say

# If he saw me hurt this way?

# What would my mama do

# If she knew about me and you?

# What would my daddy say

# All the things a girl should know

# Are the things she can't control

# All the things a girl should know

# She can't control

# What would my mama do

# If she knew about me and you, boy? #

- Oh, please! Come on! - Push! - The button!

# Say

# If he saw me hurt this way? #

Thank you so much.

What's your name?

Luciee Marie Closier. I'm 16 and I'm from Essex.

I'm so happy Ricky turned.

- So happy. - I was, like...

I wanted to hit the button so bad. Oh, darn it.

I was like, "Oh, shucks. Should I hit it?"

because you started out magnificent

and then it just kind of stayed there.

And there was room to grow

but now you got room to grow on the show with Ricky as a coach.

- I mean, this is going to be fresh. - Thank you. - Yeah.

- Hi. - Hello. - I loved it. - Thank you so much.

You're super cute and Ricky's super lucky.

- Thank you. - It was great. Well done.

Thank you. Honestly.

Ricky's got the winner! Sh!

- Hi. - Hello! - You all right? - Yeah. I'm fine, thanks. You?

- Yeah, I'm pretty good, yeah. - Good. - How's your day been?

I've been a bit emosh, but it's cool.

"Emosh"! I am so glad that Will didn't turn.

To turn now means loads, right?

- Cos you're my 11th. - Whoa.

- Whoa indeed. - It's going to be great.

- Thank you so much. Seriously. Thank you. - Welcome to my team.

It'll be great. It'll be really good.

I'm going to get my happy snap out with Ricky and all his catches.

Oh, it looks like an old-fashioned wedding!

So pleased I turned.

You look so cute together!

You did.

- Can you send me that? - I sent you.

- TOM: Good photograph too. - That's sweet.

Everyone's got one left. I don't know what's going to happen.

- KYLIE: - Only have one place left. - It's a pretty nervous feeling.

- Ooh. The stress. - Stressful, isn't it?

- Shall I press or shall I wait? - Just got to go in for the killer blow.

We ain't got time to mess around here.

It's getting really tough. Really, really tough.

- What if none of us go for 12 people? - Then we got to come back tomorrow.

What am I going to do?

Hmm.

TERESA VASILIOU: In 1973, I was doing a show playing the lead role

in Rock Carmen and Katharine Hepburn came in to see me

and she said to me that I reminded her very much of Judy Garland.

And she said that she was going to go back to America and put me

forward for the part of Gigi

and I started touring with the show all over America.

It was a total whirlwind. Fantastic time.

So you've had a big West End career, then?

Yeah, I did,

but it ended because I had a throat tumour.

The tumour nearly killed me.

My surgeon told me that I would never sing again.

The person that I was before sort of disappeared with that,

and that ended my career, really.

So when was the last time that you performed in front of anybody?

- In all honesty, I would say 31 years ago. - Wow.

I want to try and re-establish the kind of person that I once was.

Perhaps there's still a bit of life in the old girl yet.

- She's really nervous. - She's nervous, isn't she?

# Don't you know

# So many things, they come and go

# Like your words that once rang true

# Just like the love I thought I found in you

# And I remember the thunder

# Talkin' 'bout that fire in your eyes

# You walked away when I needed you most

# Maybe, baby

# I found someone

# To take away the heartache... #

Come on, Ricky. Come on. Hit the button.

# To take away my loneliness

# I've been feelin' since you've been gone... #

Come on, Teresa!

# Since you've been gone

# Too long on the borderline

# Wonderin' if your love was really mine

# But you left me with open eyes

# That's when I realised

# And baby, I found someone

# To take away the heartache

# I've been feeling since you've been gone

# Since you've been gone. #

- Press the button! - Oh, no!

- Hiya. - What's your name? - Teresa. - Where are you from, Teresa?

From Peckham in South London. I'm 61 years old.

- KYLIE: - Hi. - Hiya.

- How did that feel? - Oh, it's overwhelming. Overwhelming. - I bet.

- And you have you been singing... forever? - Yeah.

I sang all my life up until I was 30 and I had a throat tumour that,

um, sort of stopped that from happening.

And then I just concentrated on bringing up my children. And...

- They got a super dope mom. - Aw.

Thank you.

- Aw. - Super dope. - That's nice. - It's true. It's true.

We're glad you're here and glad that you are well.

It must have been something for you to overcome

and the thought of losing your voice and not being able to sing

when it's something that you do. I thought that you did a great job.

It just maybe wasn't the right day for us to come together.

I'm just glad for you that you are still singing

and the crowd loved it.

They were all up on their feet.

- Thank you so much for singing. It was wonderful. - Thank you very much.

Thank you.

- I also wanted just to say that I wrote a song for Tom. - Oh. - Yeah.

It's called If You're Going To Touch Me.

- Oh, all right, then. I would love to hear that song. - Would you? - Yes.

- Oh, that's wonderful. Thank you so much. - Can you sing it now? - What?

If You're Going To Touch Me?

# If you're going to touch me

# Then touch me

# Let me feel your body

# Move a little closer Show me love

# Give me your love and drift away Let's drift away. #

It goes like that.

Thank you so very much.

- Watch your step, darling. - Thank you, Will. Thank you so much.

- Well done. - Thank you, darling.

- And I will definitely listen to the song. - Thank you, Tom.

- I really appreciate it. - I will.

Well done, Teresa.

- Oh, you've done so well. - Oh, thank you so much. - Honestly.

You've done so well.

Performing that song for Tom today made it worth it.

It made it totally worth it.

Yeah. I know what it is to be really scared and terrified,

stepping up on that stage.

It's difficult. It's, you know, the mental side of it.

I definitely can relate to the nerves.

My family are really supportive. They really believe in me.

Probably more than I believe in myself.

But it helps with the nerves to have them there.

She's always made us proud.

She's done lots of things in her life and...

You're just proud.

This is what I want to do.

And I've just got to get through that song and do the best I can

and that's all I can ask of myself.

Come on.

# Have you come here for forgiveness?

# Have you come to raise the dead?

# Have you come here to play Jesus?

# To the lepers in your head

# Well, did I ask too much?

# More than a lot

# You gave me nothing

# Now it's all I got

# We're one

# But we're not the same

# Yeah, we hurt each other

# Then we do it again

# You say love is a temple

# Love is a higher law

# Love is a temple

# Love is a higher law

Come on!

# One love

# One blood

# One

# One

Come on, Bianca! Come on!

Thank you.

- Hello. - Hi there. - How are you? - I'm OK. Nice to meet you. I'm Bianca.

I know on the high notes I messed up I think, so I was nervous, but...

- Well, that's understandable. Nerves. - Yes.

And you try to hide them as best you can. That's what we all try to do.

- I do feel I let myself down a bit with my nerves but... - No, it's OK.

- It's a life lesson, isn't it? - Yeah, it's...

But don't look at it as you let yourself down.

The fact that we didn't turn around doesn't mean that that joy

and what music does for you has to stop, right?

- Oh, absolutely. - It's just a beginning of a whole new journey.

Thank you.

I just liked the tone of her voice.

She tripped up in one little place, but that's nerves.

- And I recognise that as being nerves. - Thank you.

- You look beautiful, love. - Thank you so much. - Lovely to see you.

All the contestants who are on the show

are here because they have a voice

and then it comes down to crunch time.

That's where the nerves and the adrenaline get to you.

It can tip you either way.

I live at home with my Mum.

She's the only person who's always there for me.

- She's probably my biggest fan. - I love hearing her sing.

I come home and say to her, "Can you just play something for me?"

And it will just soothe my soul.

Music is probably my only insecurity.

Everyone I perform to, I feel like they have to tell me I'm good.

I need to know if this is what I should be doing.

# I wanna sing

# I wanna shout

# I wanna scream till the words dry out

# So put it in all of the papers

# I'm not afraid

# They can read all about it

# Read all about it

# Nothing to hide Strive for the struggle

# You've suffered and cried Strife made me tougher

# Never mumbled or shy To trouble I rise above all

# Expectations forget rep Ain't never begged...

# To be exactly what my neck says

# Bad girls, they try to cash in on my dad's death

# I wanted to vent They say nothing at all

# I said after all you were never kin to me

# I said family is something you've never been to me

# In fact making it harder for me to see my father

# Was the only thing that you ever

# I wanna sing

# I wanna shout

# I wanna scream till my words dry out

# So put it in all of the papers

# I'm not afraid

# They can read

# All about it. #

Oh, no!

- What's your name, love? - Aaliyah Dickens.

- Aaliyah. - Yeah. - I don't know what to say.

Aw. I just want to give her a hug.

Can I ask you how old are you?

- 17. - 17?

Well, you've got plenty of time.

You know, don't get disheartened by this. You've got plenty of time.

You have to come back, believe me.

- What's choking you up so bad? - I just really wanted this, basically.

Don't look at it like that, sweetie.

You did things that most people don't have the courage to do.

Other than that, you've performed in front of the beautiful UK for all

the British people. You did a fantastic job.

Please don't be disheartened.

I can only imagine the pressure building up to this moment.

You just were a little shaky today

and I think that's evident in your nerves now.

I've had plenty of opportunities where there's one shot

and I have stuffed it up.

Plenty of time. You've got plenty of time.

It can be just through nerves.

Are you going to keep going? Promise you'll keep going.

Yeah. You need to accept your failures and move forward.

She just needs a little time. That's all.

- You've got to take the hard knocks, haven't you? - Yeah.

It's all a learning thing, isn't it?

- How are you feeling about today? - Um, a little bit nervous.

I didn't sleep very well last night.

In terms of nerves, I'm sort of... OK at the moment.

Um, I can't even speak. Um... Um... Oh.

Listen, don't be scared, man.

This is such a great opportunity.

You're put with these people who are just at the top of their game.

It's exciting. It's really exciting. But it's scary as well.

If I got a turn today, it would just be the most amazing feeling.

It's just going to be so scary. I've just got to...make the most of it.

That light is bright.

It is.

# Some folks like to get away

# Take a holiday from the neighbourhood

# Hop a flight to Miami Beach

# Or to Hollywood

# But I'm taking the Greyhound

# Down the Hudson River Line

# I'm in a New York state of mind

# It comes down to reality

# And it's fine by me cos I let it slide

# Don't care if it's Chinatown or on the Riverside

# I don't have any reasons

# Cos I've left them all behind

# I'm in a New York state of mind

# I'm just taking the Greyhound on the Hudson River Line

# Cos I'm in a New York state of mind. #

Hello.

Oh, shucks. I'm sorry. I'm still over here, hypnotised.

- Um...what's your name? - My name is Kenny Thompson.

I'm from Liverpool and I...

And I'm a teacher.

- And you're nervous right now. - Um...

Yeah. I'm like... I'm just shocked that people turned around, really.

OK. Whoever you pick out of these two, their team is complete. OK?

I've been...I've been, like, a wreck all day

because of the pressure of when to press for that final spot.

Whoa. You have got one big choice to make here.

Team Ricky is heavy with amazing singers

led by an amazing coach.

Cool tactics. Down-to-earth approach.

The ability to bring you from the bottom to the top. Make some noise.

Team Tom.

He has been looking for a male. He has a lot of girls on his team.

- That's Team Tom. - That's right.

- Well, you just said everything I was going to say. - Oh, shucks!

I've been waiting for a male voice, you know.

So I thought "Well, I can't let this fella go. He's right here.

"Right now." And that's you.

Right. First job as potential coach. First thing I'm going to teach you.

- Well, you teach kids. Stand up straight. - I know.

- I'm so bad at all of these things. - A bit like this.

Right. If one of your kids was like that you'd be like...

So stand up straight.

- You know. Right. Because... - Be proud. - You belong on that stage.

And you'd also say... There's a music phrase which is hitting

the back of the room, right?

Now, you hit the back of the room,

bounced off, went boom into my chest and that's when I hit the button

when I thought you got there. I thought that...

And that was, like, halfway through?

You were more real than anyone else I've heard.

It's a tough decision. Who will you pick?

We need ten seconds of silence.

I'm going to come and sit with you, just to, you know, distract you.

- # Wow, wow, wow, wow. # - I think I'll just distract you.

I'm glad you sat down because I've been worried that you're just going to...

Just take... Let's just take a few deep breaths all together.

All I can think is, like, it's Charlene from Neighbours.

Well, yeah, it is.

Yeah.

You didn't know I'd be sitting right next to you,

helping you with this incredible decision.

Thank you. You've calmed me.

- I've made a decision. - Here we go.

My gut is saying Tom.

- Yeah! - Hey, man. - All right. Yeah. We'll do it.

I need a hug.

- Well done, man. - I'm sorry.

He's completed Tom's team.

That's big. It's big. That's big.

Well, that's me finished. I'm off.

Someone put the kettle on.

Well, my team is full now. And I'm excited.

Because I think I've got some great singers.

- So what's Tom going to do now? - He just cruises now. - Right.

Old schoolin' it.

I'm going to just sit back and listen. And enjoy.

I live at home with my Mum, my little sister.

My dad left us when I was, I think, 14, 15.

It had a big impact on my family.

For a couple of years I had to become sort of the man of the house

and stuff and grew up a lot quicker.

I work at my local supermarket as a supervisor.

I've been there for two years.

I'm a very proud mum. When he's there, he's non-stop.

It's important to me having a job to pay my rent

and show my Mum that I am always working hard.

As teenagers go, he's pretty awesome.

He's exceptionally good with his younger sister Tierney.

She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth,

so I kind of do a lot for her to help my mum out and stuff.

Ready for school? Yeah? Ready for school.

So, yeah. She does really mean the world to me.

This blind audition for Joe means everything to him.

Yeah, I really, really hope he gets it.

I never really had a break, to be honest, and I feel now is the time.

I just want the best for my family.

For that reason, I want to do well in this competition.

Come on, Joe. Let's pound it.

# Aren't you somethin' to admire?

# Cos your shine is somethin' like a mirror

# And I can't help but notice

# You reflect in this heart of mine

# If you ever feel alone

# And the glare makes me hard to find

# Just know that I'm always

# Parallel on the other side

# Cos with your hand in my hand and a pocket full of soul

# I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go

# Just put your hand on the glass

# I'll be tryin' to pull you through

# You just gotta be strong

# Cos I don't wanna lose you now

# I'm lookin' right at the other half of me

# The vacancy that sat in my heart

# Is a space that now you hold

# Show me how to fight for now

# And I'll tell you, baby, it was easy

# Comin' back here to you once I figured it out

# You were right here all along

# Cos it's like you're my mirror

# My mirror staring back at me

# Staring back at me

# Cos it's like you're my mirror

# My mirror staring back at me

# Staring back at me. #

- Hi, mate. - Hiya. - How's it going? - Hey. How you doing? - I'm really good.

- What's your name? - Uh, Joe West.

- How old are you, Joe? - 19. - Where are you from? - I'm from Ashford in Kent.

- Cool. Cool. Well, well done. - Thank you. - It was good. Everyone loved it.

Cheers.

But...here comes the tough love.

If you're going to get them to really love it and really

grab their attention, there's got to be another level to go to and it was

just, for me, it was like started and it just was on one level.

And it never took it to another place.

About 30 seconds to go,

I was thinking this is going to go up there. It just never got there.

- That's why I didn't turn around. - OK. Thank you.

You know you can sing.

But I don't know if you know if you are your favourite act yet.

- And that's why I didn't turn. - OK.

There's no limitations on what you can do now.

You just go on out there and doing it.

- Putting my stuff on the internet. - Yeah. Thanks anyway.

- Hi. - How are you? You all right? - I'm good.

Better for seeing your arms out of that singlet.

I have to agree with the others.

You weren't quite there, but that song was a big mountain to climb.

- So maybe with a different song it would have been another story. - Sure.

- OK. Thank you. - But I wish you all the best.

This is one shot and you have to make sure that that is the one that

you can shine on. But good luck to you and keep it up.

Thanks very much. Thank you.

I'm from Jersey.

It's an amazing place. Beautiful little island.

But there's not the sort of much to do.

The first time I sang, at the time I must have only been about four,

so this sort of little blonde boy dancing and singing away.

I moved to London when I was 18 to sort pursue a career in music.

Normally people have people around them, but you are solo.

- So you're the Lone Ranger. - Yeah. The lone wolf. Hell yeah.

The dream, to be successful in what I want to do,

to me right now, that's all that matters.

I predict a riot.

# Brother and sister Together we'll make it through

# Someday a spirit will lift you and take you there

# I know you've been hurting but I've been waiting to be there for you

# And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can

# Everybody's free

# To feel good

# Everybody's free

# To feel good

# We all are a family that should stand together as one

# When everyone's sharing their hope, love will shine through

# Everybody's free

# To feel good

# Everybody

# Everybody is free. #

Hi! What's your name?

My name is Jamie and I front a band called Romance.

I just wanted to come here today to show you what I've got.

- It seems it worked out all right. - Yeah!

- What happened to the rest of the band? - Where's my band?

I wasn't allowed to bring them with me today. We had a tough time.

- We signed for four albums. I was 21. - Amazing.

And, um, things were going great.

We had our album ready to go and my bassist got really ill. My drummer...

Oh, getting a bit emosh.

My drummer at, like, 21 years got a condition where the

muscles in his back are turning into cartilage.

Which effectively meant he could never play ever again.

Um, my guitarist just sort of lost heart.

It was a really hard thing for us.

We were literally about to put out all of it and...the label dropped.

- I lost management, I lost everything. - You didn't lose faith.

Oh, no. Never lose faith.

You've got to keep that.

- So, yeah. - Well, you can relax now because you are through. - Thank you.

I just liked the emotion in your voice.

I don't know if you always sing like that,

but the fact that you have the ability to sing like that

- is very moving. - Thank you.

Didn't know I was going to turn around

and see this, like, rock god dude.

Thank you.

- Hiya. - Yo. - I really loved it. I kind of feel like I know...

- I know what you've been through. I'm in a band. - Mmm.

We lost a record deal. I didn't stop. How old are you, did you say?

- I'm 24. - 24. Well, I was 26 when the Kaiser Chiefs got signed.

And we've done all right.

So being in a band means, you know,

you've got people to pick you up when you're down.

You've got people to tell you

you definitely shouldn't be wearing those trousers.

And, um...

I'm in a band.

And...they can't be here with me right now.

And, um, as far as getting dropped...

Guess what? They lost. They lost.

So the choice is yours, my friend.

It is a difficult one, isn't it? Um...

If there were two people I wanted to turn around today,

it's just happened.

- So... - Well, that's good. - Amazing.

I think I've got to go with you, Ricky, man.

- Sorry, Kyles. - It's all right.

- Well done, mate. We'll make it work, all right? - Oh, yeah.

We'll make it work.

- Thank you. - And, oh, by the way, you're the last member of my team.

I can go home now.

I have tapped out, so thank you very much.

I'll meet you there. It's just that way. See you later, pal.

Yes. I am over the moon that I've filled my team. I'm happy.

This is real hard. There's no-one to back you up.

Like, say for example, if somebody comes out that's pretty good

and you pass on them and then the next couple are ducks

and they come quacking?

Then you just messed up on that awesome one.

There's a couple of singers left. One of them can be golden.

Or they could all be ducks.

I have one place left. What am I going to do?

You got Donald, you got Daffy,

- you got Daisy Duck. - It's hard.

Scrooge McDuck. You got freaking, uh... Howard the Duck.

I'm about to choose one of the audience to come and replace me.

All the three DuckTales. Whoo-hoo.

Yeah. I'm really... I'm feeling the pressure.

How do you gauge when the songbird's going to come?

I am from South Africa. I came to England when I was nine years old.

South African music has definitely influenced my taste

and it plays a part in the way I sing as well.

My mum is definitely my number one fan. We're very close.

It's kind of just, like, having a sister but with rules.

I want to be as successful as Beyonce. Yeah.

I like to aim high and have big dreams,

so it's a matter of go big or go home, right?

Come on, girl!

# I never met a guy who makes me feel

- # The way that you do... # - Go, girl!

# Whenever I'm asked who makes my dreams real

# I say that you do

# Fee-fi-fo-fum

# Look out, baby, cos here I come

# I'll be giving you a love that's true

# So get ready, so get ready

# I'm gonna try to make you love me too

# So get ready, so get ready

# Cos here I come

# I'm on my way

# I'll be giving you a love that's true... #

Go on, Kylie. Push it!

# So get ready, baby

# I'm gonna try to make you love me too

# So get ready, so get ready

# Cos here I come

# Cos here I come. #

OK. OK, hi. What's your name?

- My name is Nomakhosi and I am 22 years old. - Wow.

- You're 22. - Yes, I am.

How do you sound like that when you're 22 years old?

You complete my team.

You complete my team!

Oh, my God.

I'm so happy to be with you!

We need each other!

- Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, my God. - Hi!

Kylie! Kylie! Whoo!

That's it.

Nomakhosi. Yeah. She's completed Team Kylie really well.

Hit. Turned.

She looks gorgeous and amazing. Done.

My team is fu-ull.

My team is fu-ull.

Team Kylie is good to go.

Team Kylie is complete. Team Kylie is complete.

Team Kylie is complete.

- Yeah, baby. - Yeah! - Yeah.

Last year I waited till the very last singer.

I don't want to do that this year. That's the truth.

Will's last man standing but we knew that was going to happen.

I did, anyway. You could see it in his twinkle.

That's his eye twinkle.

Will knows something we don't know.

- Will is waiting. - What I think Will is looking for I don't think is there.

Right? Because I don't think he'll ever find it and that's why he'll go at the end.

I've been here three freaking seasons in a row.

The same freaking position.

Like, why do I keep on making the same mistakes?

It might not be a mistake.

When I'm up in this chair, all eyes on me. All eyes on me.

All eyes on me. You see Tom over there? His team is full.

His team is full.

His team is full. You see Kylie right there? Her team is full.

Her team is full. Her team is full.

I want to hit and turn to see who's singing.

That was very bad. That was very bad. I messed my song up.

But I'm the last one. All eyes on me.

My name is Liz Oki, I'm 61 and I'm retired.

I've been in various bands over the years.

And music in my life has been the one thing that gets me up in the morning

when things feel bad.

I grew up in two children's homes.

In a baby's home in Woking until I was five,

and then in Harrogate in Yorkshire

until I was 15.

The lady I called Mum in Yorkshire, she was the one constant in my life,

right from when I was a child.

She's probably known me longer than anybody I know.

She passed just two weeks ago.

I didn't want to cry. Sorry.

She has been there throughout my life.

I know was very proud of me.

Here I go again.

And I'd like to do this for her as well.

This is the culmination of everything I've ever done in my life.

And this is the pinnacle.

Come on, girl.

# I'd say love was a magical thing

# I'd say love would keep us from pain

# Had I been there

# Had I been there

# I would promise you all of my life

# But to lose you would cut like a knife

# So I don't dare...

- Turn around. - Come on. Turn around.

# No, I don't dare

# No, I've never come close in all of these years

# You are the only one to stop my tears

# And I'm so scared

# I'm so scared

# Oh, I don't understand it

# For you, it's a breeze...

- Come on! Turn around! - Come on!

# It brought me to my knees,

# Don't you care?

# No, I'd never come close in all of these years

# You are the only one

# To stop my tears

# I'm so scared of this love. #

She was fabulous.

Hello.

- Hello. What's your name? - My name is Liz Oki. How are you?

I'm great.

- You remind me of my Aunt Stephanie. - Oh, really? - Yeah.

And I thank you for singing today. Um...

Sorry.

I think I know how you feel.

You all right?

I lost my mother two weeks ago.

You OK, Will?

And... I had my back turned.

When you said "I'm so scared"

I thought of my Auntie Stephanie, you know?

And she passed away on Easter

and my Grandma passed away on Thanksgiving,

and...

I told myself that my aunt passed away, to be with my Grandma.

But I know she was afraid, you know?

My aunt used to sing for the family when we would hold hands

and pray before our family dinners.

And when I turned around, like, I... The same...

The same skin complexion.

And I thank you for singing today.

Thank you.

Thank you, Will.

- Hi, Liz. - Hi there. - I'm sorry to hear about your mum. - OK.

Singing is the way to express yourself

and you bring out emotions in other people.

I think that's what we do it for,

whether you want to feel joyful, you want to...

You want to somehow let someone know you're thinking of them.

You did that today, and yeah,

- thanks for sharing that with us today. - Thank you.

Thank you, Will.

Thank you.

- I'm sorry for your mom's loss. - And yours. - You're like an angel.

Thank you very much.

- Thank you. - Thank you.

- You all right, mate? - I'm good.

Thank you.

I was thinking of my mum out there

and how pleased and proud that she would be.

It's very raw for me at the moment

and I had no idea that he's just gone through the same thing.

Well, I hope the next song is a happy song.

God. That's emotional stuff there.

- HE SINGS - # Kumbaya, my lord... #

This is such an important opportunity for me.

I mean, how many times am I going to get to do this?

It's a life-changing chance.

I'm just going to go out there and give it everything I've got.

# Roxanne

# You don't need to wear that dress tonight

# Walk the streets for money

# You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

# Roxanne

# You don't need to put on the red light

# Roxanne

# You don't need to put on the red light

# You don't need to put on the red light

# You don't need to put on the red light

# Roxanne. #

- You look familiar to me. - I think I'd remember if we'd have met.

I was hoping...

I was hoping I'd convince you to spin around but I guess not, maybe.

I can't. I literally...I just completed my team.

Um...or I might have spun around.

- Thank you. - Cos you sounded gorgeous and... Got to big-up the band.

- Oh, yeah. - Doing an amazing job, guys.

Really good to play with good musicians.

- Oh, yeah. - Yeah.

- That's a nice jacket combo blazer. - Thank you very much.

- Is that two pieces or all one piece? - No, no, it's a two-piece.

Thank you.

- Pretty smart, pretty smart. - Thanks.

- Not looking too bad yourself, man. I like the hat. - Oh, yeah.

It's my thinking hat.

I'm thinking...

..I need Q-tips right about now...

..to clean my ears out.

What's up with your head?

So, as I was thinking it, it came out.

But...

..the reason why I didn't turn around was not because I didn't hear it.

It's because I'm just following my gut that something else...

It could come, it could come or I could be very wrong

and I just blew an opportunity.

There's a lot of talent back there.

- But thank you so much. - Thank you guys. Thank you.

It's a hard one, to be the last, with one spot left.

- Wow. - Strong.

Why doesn't this thing go?

Just cos you can't press the button,

no need to be destroying the chairs now.

Yeah.

You know, I think he's waiting for somebody to really hit him hard,

that he has no choice but to push his button,

but there is a risk of letting somebody really good go.

I think that's the boy who could've taken on a Whitney, you know what I mean?

- Yeah, exactly. - What's Will waiting for? I have no idea.

But we'll soon find out.

- How many more? Two? - Two. Sorry, thr...two.

- It's really going to be tricky. - I think he's playing a dangerous game.

Am I waiting for potential or waiting for the person just to

come and, like, whisk me away with angelic freakin' vocal capabilities?

Like larynx of gold.

You keep saying, like, "Wow."

It's all good. We'll figure it out. I'mma use my gut.

Calm the gut.

I work in a doctor's surgery as a phlebotomist.

If you've got to go for a blood test,

I'm the person you'll come and see.

I work as a project manager in a large bank in Glasgow.

I enjoy what I'm doing at the moment

but I'd rather leave blood in their arms...

..and get out of the surgery

and start singing my songs.

I'm successful in my career but I'm just not happy.

I know what that is - it's because I'm not doing what I want to do,

which is singing.

If they don't turn around...

..get a little bit upset.

Carry on.

I'm absolutely terrified about singing for the coaches

because I could be completely heartbroken at the end of it.

So I'm very, very nervous.

# I know you think that I shouldn't still love you

# Or tell you that

# But if I didn't say it

# Well, I'd still have felt it

# Where's the sense in that?

# I gave you all the love I had in me

# Now I find you lied

# And I can't believe it's true

# Oh, you'd better stop

# Before you tear me all apart

# All that was there will be there still

# I'll let it pass

# And I'll hold my tongue

# And you will think that I moved on

# I will go down with this ship

# I won't put my hands up and surrender

# You better stop

# Before you tear me all apart

# Stop before

# You go and break my heart

# There will be no white flag above my door

# Cos I'm in love

# And always will be. #

# You better stop. #

Yes!

Thank you. Thank you.

- Hey. - What's your name? - Cherri. Cherri Prince.

- You're the last singer. You just filled up my team. - Wow!

And I was telling myself, "Am I going to wait for, like, a knockout

"person just to, like, knock me out, or do I turn around for potential?"

Cos you could potentially be the person

that wins it with the right coach

to help guide you through this competition.

I'm so pleased that you've turned around.

But you really hurt me when you waited till right, right, right till the end.

I was like, "OK, bye."

- No, no. - So thank you. - I told myself, like, "Don't double dip."

What's a double dip?

So, what a double dip is, like... I have a singer similar to you.

- She's jazz. - Ooh, OK. - Kind of jazzy.

That's the kind of music that I like, really.

It's alright to break the rules every once in a while, especially when

something's worth breaking the rules, and you're worth breaking the rules.

Thank you. Thank you.

- Can I come down? - Yeah!

- Hi. Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you.

Will.

Yeah.

- Wow. - Wow. - I think he's going to be great. - Yeah. - Maybe too great.

- Too darn good. - I think we've all done well, I think.

- Oh, no, I'm happy with my team. Don't get me wrong. - Yeah. - You happy?

- Oh, yeah. - Each one of us thinks we have the best team.

Just like there's some parents that think they have cute kids

and you look at the kid and you're like, "That's an ugly baby."

And now it's time for the battles, slicing and dicing, cutting...

Hold on.

Cutting it up, bam, bam, bam!

All right, cool. See you.

Next week on The Voice...

I cannot wait to see the battles.

- All right! - Pull up, pull up!

- Ugh! - Do I have to choose?

- Meow! - Steals are back.

- RICKY: - There's definitely people out there that I wouldn't mind poaching.

That was just too, too awesome.

- What I'm looking for is star quality. - Bang.

Did you see the skirt she was wearing? Jeez.

KYLIE: Didn't you love that?

It's battle time.

It's like being in a high chair.

Mum!

- The new coaches... WOMAN: - That was amazing. - Yeah, that was a ka-sneeze.

Skaneezing!

I loved it.

I thought it was amazing.

- See you later, alligator. - Bye.
