The Voice UK (2012–…): Season 2, Episode 4 - Blind Auditions 4 - full transcript

Your career is in your hands.

You get to pick the coaching

That's what's unique about this show
it's ther decision

That decision could change the rest of your life.

As we reach the halfway mark,
decisions must be made.

Who will thrive?

Who will crumble?

Can't seem to catch my break.

And who will slip through the cracks?

I feel like a dumb-ass right now.
I'm gutted

But with no second chances...

Tactis take a new turn

He's playing a game.

No, I'm not playing games!

Oh please!

I had love at first note.

It's over.

Come on!

Today's auditions are all about the voice,

but style and beauty are still
important to our first artist.

My name is Alice Fredenham,
I'm 28 and I'm a beauty therapist.

We are loving the wardrobe today.

Are you a big fan of '50s style
by any chance?

Yes, I just love vintage fashion,
and also antiques, anything from the 1940s, '50s era.

Ok.

Well...It especially helps the
woman's figure, I think!

I love, you know, Rita Hayworth and...

those old kind of Hollywoog glamour style people.

You know, get to dig into a past time
and just dream for a little bit!

This will be the first time my family
have come to see me sing live ever in my life.

When was the lasr time you
remember hearing her sing?

She sang in a school production
of Joseph and His Technicolor Dreamcoat.

She sort of didn't sing a great deal
in her early teens,

but then as she's got older,
she has been singing.

And we say, "We should come
and see you, Alice."

She said, "No, no, I'm not ready yet.
I'll let you know when I'm ready."

My confidence has grown loads in
the last few years

I think that just comes with age as well.

I've done a few gigs in pubs around London,

and I've sung at a few weddings in my time, but

singing to the audience today will be
the biggest audience I've ever sung to.

I've not really had a lot of experience
in show business before!

So... it's just a great opportunity
and it's so much fun

to take part in something like this.

It's a win-win situation for me, really.

Whilst Alice waits, next up is
part-time model Sarah Cassidy.

She's used to turning heads, but can
she do the same to those chairs?

I'm a part-time model, and I think
I do it because

I just like getting glammed up and
I'm a bit of a poser, to be honest!

When I was 24, I came
third in Miss Scotland.

I wasn't going in to even
get in the top 3,

I was just wanting to wear the
big dress to be honest!

I love modelling, but I just want
to be like the whole package,

and do the singing and be glamorous
and dance and do the whole thing!

While Sarah has time for some
finishes touches,

Alice's moment of truth has arrived.

I'm hoping that they'll turn around today

so thar they can see...
me perform.

I've got a lot to offer on that side
of things, as well as just my voice.

She gets too hungry for dinner at eight

She loves the theater and
never comes late

I never bother with people that I hate

That's why a lady is a tramp

She doesn't like crap games
with barons or earls

Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls

And I definitely won't dish our dirt
with the rest of those girls

That's why the lady is a tramp

I love the free, fresh wind in my hair

Life without care

Oh, I'm so broke

It's "oke"

I hate California,
it's crowded and damp

That's why the lady is a tramp

She's a hobo

And she's a scamp

She's a no good kind of tramp

That is why

The lady

Is a tramp

Hi!
What's your name?

Hi! My name's Alice, I'm 28,
from Hertfordshire.

- Hello, Alice.
- Hi.

I didn't turn around because there's
a huge difference between singing

for singing, and singing
to make people listen.

And I think...
Yeah...

there's that difference of going,

"Hi, I'm over here, come and listen"
and just kind of singing.

And I felt that you were just
kind of singing.

it kind of just felt like I was in a jazz bar

or in a restaurant and someone
was playing and you were singing.

-You know what I mean?
-Ok, thank you.

Stylistically, for me, I just felt it
was a little bit safe.

-Yeah.
- That was the only reason

why I turned around. By the way,
you're a gorgeous-looking girl.

Thank you very much, Danny.

The reason I didn't turn around is because,

while you're doing jazz,

I didn't...it didn't feel like you
understood your instrument.

Like, are you...?

Are you a trumpet?
Are you flute?

Like, what instrument are
you amongst the band?

"Look, I am the star amongst this jazz ensemble,
and this number that I'm doing."

But I applaud you for bringing jazz
and picking that song.

- Thank you very much.
- Thank you. Come down.

Well done.

Fantastic, well done

Well done

Smokin'!

She was smokin' hot!

-Smokin' hot!
- She's not in the show, quick!

Go and get her number, Danny!

We all human,too, son.

Now, Sarah heads to the stage, hoping
to impress with just her voice.

This is the first time in my life I won't
be judged on my looks.

It's just the voice this time,
and that's it.

As long as I sing my best,
that's all I can do.

Let me say that since, baby

Since we've been together

Loving you forever

Is all I need.

Oh, and let me be the one
you come runnin' to

I'll never be, ah,
untrue

Hey baby, yeah

Let's stay together

Loving you whether, whether

Times are good or bad

Happy or

sad

Happy or sad...

Thank you.

What's your name, love?

My name is Sarah.

Where do you come from?

I come from Glasgow in Scotland.

Oh, you sound very professional.

Thank you.

You did some wonderful,
wonderful things...whistle singing.

with your voice and I don't think
I've heard anybody do it

quite like that before and it's very original.
And I loved it.

I would love to have you on my team
and that's all I can really say.

Thank you.

- I feel like a dumbass right now,cos...
- Cos your chair's red.

The reason I didn't turn around at first was because
your voice was really small at one point in the song

and then when you hit that
last note at the end,

that's when you made me feel like
a dumbass, so...oops.

You've got absolutely gorgeous,
gorgeous talent.

I think you're a very special singer.

I need you on my team to go
up against these

because they have people who are similar

I don't have anyone like you.

Stop saying that, it wasn't that hard.

Vocally there are two things.

I can coach you technically.

I can teach you breathing exercises that
are going to help your range.

We all can do the same thing.

I know, but I didn't sit here and go,

"I've done this, and produced this,
and I've been on tour with U2", like this.

Well...

I feel like, as a female, it's so important...

And I've said this a few shows ago,

they will never understand how nerve-racking it is

to be a female stepping on stage.

What's the difference? it's not like
you're a subspecies.You're the same!

No, it's a whole different game for a girl.
I, personally, think that.

The emotional side of it. I'm going
to throw something out.

I think you're going to go quite
far in this competition.

And I think it's really important to
you to understand

that this isn't just a Tv show,
this isn't just going to be fun,

this is really serious and it's...

It is! What did I say?

I'm just laughing.

Jessie will genuinely...
You always give that air,

you're trying to give that air of confidence.

Just go back to last time, it's such a scary
thing coming out here to try and sing in front of people.

Last year, what I was doing was
even in rehearsals...What is he doing?

He's trying to spell "Tom" with his body.

That's so stupid.

Hey, Will!

I want you on my team,
how's that?

- Did you come here with a coach in mind?
- You, of course!

Really?

- That's even worse.
- Why was it Will?

Now I really feel like a dumbass.

I don't know, I just feel like
I can relate to Will

because I've been in a
hip-hop group

and I just thought we would
work well together.

If you were going to pick Will,
we produce all the time together

we do stuff together all the time.
I'm most like him on this panel.

We can all offer you the best of our ability,

but that's up you to decide who you
think could help you the most

and who you'd have more fun
with during that time.

I've made my decision.

I think I'm going to go with Jessie.

It's the stairs, the stairs are really scary.

Thank you.

And you, you're amazing.

Go,go,Jessie, go-go-go!

I feel like a dumbass!

When she hit that high note
at the end, I was like,

"What was I thinking?" Don't make
that mistake I just made

So, Sarah has just joined Team Jessie.

What does the future hold for
18-year-old Emily Worton?

I'm a bit concerned abouth the coaches
not being able to see me

I'm worried they're going to think I'm a middle-aged
librarian, cos that's a bit what I sound like.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for me.

He came from Greece

He had a thirst for knowledge

He studied sculpture at
St Martin's college

that's where I

caught his eye

you want to live like common people

you want to do whatever
common people do

Want to be with common people

You want to be common
people like me

What else could I do?

I said "I'll see what I can do"

Rent a flat above a shop

cut your hair and get a job

Smoke some fags and play some pool

pretend you never went to school

But still you'll never get it right

`cos when you're laid in bed at night

watching roaches climb the wall

if you called your Dad he
could stop it all,yeah

You'll never live like common people

you'll never do whatever
common people do

you'll never fail like common people

you'll never watch your life slide
out of view

Dance and drink, and screw

Because there's nothing else to do

She's dope

Hi!

Hi, Well done!

Thank you so muck.

What's your name?

It's Emily Worton, and I'm
a college student.

Nice, and how old are you?

- I'm 18.
- 18.

I didn't turn around, Will did though, so, booyah!
- Oh, my God!

Tom?

The first part I believed and enjoyed.

It sounded serious, like you really meant it.

When you went to the up tempo part,
you threw it away I felt anyway.

But then, that's up to Will to straighten that out.
Danny?

The only reason why I didn't turn
around is because I'm an idiot.

Oh, my God!
- I am.

The hard part for me is seeing a guitarist.

I had no idea, to pull off those
vocals as well,

and play guitar at the same time.

I know how hard that is,
I commend you on it.

I'm so glad he turned around.

He was playing tactics, he was
going, "I'm not going to go!"

Three, two, one! he went around.

So, I'm glad, because sometimes
Will hears things that we don't.

In fact, a lot of times he hears things we don't.

What?

What? There's a fax coming through.
What? What?

Som the first part was magical.
And it was flawlessly executed.

Then I can see why you wanted to
bring it up a notch,

to show that my voice should not
just be heard over merely guitar,

but I can also hang with the band.

I could see the dynamics on how
you wanted to counter-play it.

You were powerful in the beginning
and you are powerful at the end.

And you on my team,
it's going to be fresh

because I think you're super-dope.

Oh, my God!

Congratulations.

Thank you so much.

To Will, to Will.

I was a bit sneaky because
I told everybody "no"

just to see if they were going to go.

I looked over and he was like,
"No, I'm not going." Bam, straight down.

So, yeah, it's on. It's absolutely on now.

Secret agent, man!

That was me right there.

Off all the coaches, Will.I.Am has come with the
biggest bag of tricks and tactics and the others know it.

You were playing a little game.

What?

You were playing a little game.

No, I'm not.

Will's new card is "I'm going
to tell you who to pick".

If I were you, I would pick Tom.

Hey, Will. I want you on my team.

He loves to go, "Go on,
Danny, it's yours."

So he'll push his button,

and then he'll go, "I think you
should go with Danny."

The obvious coach for you is Danny.

He's trying to get rid of people
that he doesn't think is going to win.

- And Danny and Tom have both fallen for it.
- I'm not playing games.

You are playing a game!

I'm trying to help to make a decision
and coach you towards a better coach

I picked up some tactics along the way,
but I'm still tic-tac fresh.

Nick Tatham needs music more than most.

For him, it's not just a career choice.

Music is definitely in my medication.

When I'm playing, I don't
really think about it.

I get so involved into the song,

aand I think that's when the
Tourette's disappears

So, yeah, yeah

Tourette's Syndrome is a chemical
imbalance of the brain

which just makes you twitch
mainly or physical tics,

like I'm doing now actually!

That's basically as much as I know!

School, growing up, was quite a
bad time for me.

I just got bullied and stuff

I think people in those days
didn't understand.

I found that the main thing
that really got me through

my Tourette's and my bad time
having it as a child, was my music.

Tourette's makes me who I am.
Nothing's going to change that.

Come on, Nick.

It's always going to be there, and
I wantit to be there,

because it's part of me now.

If people can't except that, well, tough.

I been working so hard

I'm punching my card

Eight hours for what

Oh, tell me what I got

I'll hit the ceiling

Or else i'll tear up this town

Tonight I gotta cut loose,
footloose

Kick off your sunday shoes

Please, Louise, pull me off
of my knees

Jack, get back, come on
before we crack

Everybody come

You've got to turn me around

And put your feet on the ground

Now take a take the hold of my soul

Ohhh

Everybody cut footloose

- Hi!
- Hello.

I was dancing.

-I enjoyed it, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
-That's all right, cool.

As a coach. I don't feel
I would be right for you.

I was looking over to Danny and William.

I was going, "go on". You have a
good voice, it's just not for me.

To take on a song like that is hard.

I wanted to give it more of a country
feel at the beginning,

instead of making it exactly the
same as the Kenny Loggins version,

then rock it up in the chorus bit.

You did a good job with it, but
Kenny Loggins' thing was like in there.

For me, I was close, Jessie
was looking over, going,

"He should be on your team." But just
not today, it wasn't the day, mate.

Thank you though.

Can you just play, like a verse,
just your guitar.

I just want to hear your voice cos
there was so much going on

- Just a verse of something.
- Something more country?

Anything.

She calls out to the man on the street

"sir, can you help me?

It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep

Is there somewhere you can tell me?

Oh, think twice

Cuz it's another day for you and me in paradise

Oh, think twice

Cuz it's another day for you

You and me in paradise

Ooh, ooh,ooh....

Thank you.

I'm happy you just did that, because
it's a lesson learned.

Song choice is so important.
Because we all just went...

The lesson of today is, come with the
1000 per cent you.

Singing the song that you sang I forgot,

because that was 1000 per cent you.

It's just that one-and-a-half minute.

It's what you feel at that time,
but that was amazing.

- Thank you, though.
- Thank you very much.

I'm happy you got to sing.

Amazing, well done. All the best.

You have an absolutely
wonderful voice.

See what I mean?
Song choice, man.

That was amazing when
he just sang by himself.

It's a shame.

Some acts choose a song they know
will get the coaches' attention.

But it's a risky tactic.

I'm singing a Script song. I think it
adds a little more pressure.

I want to do it justice and impress Danny.

She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart

While I'm drinking jack all alone in my local bar

And we don't know how, how we got into this mad situation

Only doing things out of frustration

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard

Ooh,ooh,ooh,ooh...

Drinking old cheap bottles of wine

Sit talking up all night...

It's a brave choice for somebody to do
one of the coaches' songs.

Because they're going to be compared.

Thank you very much for
coming on and singing my song

that means a lot.
I really appreciate that.

Can I say something? Song choice
is really, really important.

For me, I had the original in my mind,
as I think everyone else did.

You always have to do a version

that's going to stand out from the original

or do something that is going to
be as good if not better.

Sometimes we hear something that
a lot of us would have never done.

I stare at my reflection in the mirror

Why am I doing this to myself?

-Come on Jessie.

I nearly left the real me on the shelf

No, no, no, no!

Don't lose who you are in the blur
of the stars, no

Seeing is deceiving,
dreaming is believing

Just be true to who you are

I'm sorry.

I'm going to forget that that was my song

and just talk to you singer-to-singer.

Though you did a good job,
I want to hear your version of it.

- Always be yourself.
- I'm a massive fan.

Let me give you a hug.

Well done.

I am disappointed that she
didn't turn around.

but to hear her feedback was just amazing.

Hard song to sing.

You should hear me in the shower
in the morning, I rip it up.

I think singing a coach's song
can go either way.

You are on a tightrope. You really are.

LB Robinson has a song and a plan.

The question is, will it come together?

Well, she's all you'd ever want

She's the kind I like to flaunt,
take to dinner.

Yeah!

Well she always knows her place

She's got style, she's got grace,
she's a winner.

Ohh!

She's a lady.

Whoa whoa whoa,
she's a lady

I'm talkin' about that little lady

And the lady is mine.

Well she's never in the way

Always something nice to say,
Oh what a blessing.

I can leave her on her own

Knowing she's okay alone,
and there's no messing.

No, no, no, no, no!

Though she never asks for very much
though I don't refuse her

Always treat her with respect,
I never would abuse her.

What she's got is hard to find,
and I don't want to lose her.

Help me make a mountain from a little pile of clay!

Whoa, she's a lady!

Whoa whoa whoa,
she's a lady

I'm talkin' about that little lady

And the lady is mine.

3, 2, 1...

Hello!

And your name is?

My name's LB Robinson.

How are you? I'm not too bad.

I'm happy to be here now.

Nice to see all you guys as well.

And I'm really, really happy that
you turned around, Mr. Jones. Yes!

I had to do it!

What do you do for a living?

I work with the homeless. I'm a
support worker in Birmingham city.

Thank you!

Yeah, I've been doing that for
about two years now

You on Sir Tom Jones' team now!

Yes!

Yes, yes!

I didn't turn around because I really
loved the beginning part.

I really felt like that was you.

And then it went a bit...ok,
I'm going to throw a word out,

and I don't want you to take it in a rude way...

- It went like me?
- Huh?

The arrangement changed into one...

No, I'm really honest...

- Oh, just say it. Come on.
- I got a bit bored.

That's all right. That's fair enough.

I feel like your voice is better than how
you sang at the end.

Obviously, when you're singing
someone else's song

I wanted to make it my own.
I hate saying that phrase.

But then I wanted to do it justice.

Obviously I knew I was going
to sing it for him,

so I wanted to show him,
Tom, that I can do it.

- No, I 100% understand that.
- But if I bored you, what can I say?

No, you didn't bore me...
You just said I bored you, babe.

Don't try and backtrack now!

He just put you on the spot!

Yeah, it's true!

This is a first that we've seen on The Voice,

when a singer challenges the pitcher!

Oh, no!

Yeah, you know, don't take any
disrespect by us all not turning around

At this stage in the show, you know,
we all have our own game plans,

but there's nobody better, genuinely.

The only reason why I didn't turn
around is because, one,

you sounded fantastic in
the beginning and the end.

But it's like, "What?!
he's singing the boss' joint?"

I'm going to hit the button? Nah,
I ain't going to put myself like that.

Just go with the dude,
you know what I'm saying?

Would you humour me?

If I'd have turned around, would
you have gone with me?

Exactly, so I'm glad I didn't!

That's nothing against you, neither man.

No, that's absolutely against me!

I think, with Mr. Jones over there,

I mean, I feel like we've got a lot in common.

Thank you.

And I feel that he can teach me
a lot and help me a lot.

Where I want to go, where I want to be.

And the man's a legend!
Look at him!

I agree with Jessie on the one thing,

that I loved the way you
started that song.

I'm really glad that you started
that off as a ballad

because you really shone there, and
now I know what you can really do.

Lovely to meet you.

All right, LB!

He was a character!

Yeah!

It makes me feel very proud when
somebody does a song of mine.

You know, it's...it makes me feel proud

that he would want to come on and do that,

especially in front of me, you know.

But it's a great feeling,

and he did the song justice and
he sang the hell out of it.

Adding LB now brings
Team Tom to 7 acts.

Jessie is still ahead
with 8 of her 12 acts.

Will now has 6 acts,

and still to secure a new act,

Danny remains on 5.

I'm Carla Mainey, I'm 47,
and I teach sailing.

I'm Barbara Kelly, I'm 54,
and I do teacher training.

Born to be wild...

Barbara and I met about 10 years
ago on a sailing tour of America.

Carla and I hit it off straight away
and we've been singing ever since.

Our style of music isn't maybe
to everybody's taste.

I think we have very big voices
for little people.

But we like it!

A lot of people think that women
our age need to be mothers

but not really be out there.

I think times are changing

We live in a world where
everything's possible.

Carla phoned me and said we were getting together

to sing for The Voice and I said
"I'm not going on television."

She said, "Yes, you are!"

Breathe. Keep your
energy down here.

Come on and bring it on!

We're so different!

It's a 50/50 you know?

They could really love us
or they could hate us.

Hey, hey, I wanna be a rock star!

Ensemble!

Thank you so much for all turning round!

Have you heard of love at
first sight? I had love at first note.

The first note...they saw me.

I was like, "Boo-yeah!"
Hit it, straight from the jump.

Thank you!

There is a bit of rebellion
happening right now,

with you guys doisng opera
on a show like this,

but you kind of have to do
that to educate the youth

on the importance of classical
music and real singing.

I thought it was lovely.

Thank you.

No, really, it was lovely.

Right from the beginning.

The only thing is, as far as
I'm concerned, being a coach,

I don't know much about opera.

You know, I mean, I'm not qualified
to coach anybody in that area

I don't think so

Oh, I think with your voice, you are!

There's a tenor in there!

But I would love it if you
would be on my team.

It would be my pleasure
to give it a go,

because you sound wonderful together.

Thank you so much!
Thank you.

I thought honestly...like angels.
You know?

The one problem I would see
with opera singers entering

the realm of regular pop music
is always going to be song choice,

and how can you reinvent it again.

Genuinely, I think both styles could
work really, really well together,

and I'd look forward to working with you.

Thank you!

I'm going to be 100% honest

and say my push of a button
was purely selfish.

I literally was like, I want
to hear you sing more.

I just think, vocally, I would
love to explore what you guys...

cos one-and-a-half minutes, I'm sure
you guys can do way more.

If you were on my team, we
would always match jackets.

It's true! Get up there!

But, yeah, the decision is yours!

Opera singers

Can we have all four of you?

We're going to go with...

Will.I.Am

Thank you!

Thank you, guys.

Well done, Will. They're dope.

What else can they sing?

Gangnam style!

Gangnam style!

We're so the naughty
ones, aren't we?

It's no unusual for our next
act to pack out venues

up and down the country.

My name's David Kidd. I'm a
Tom Jones vocal impersonator.

Sex bomb!

For the last 20-odd years,
I've been singing like Tom Jones.

He is "The Voice". I think
he's absolutely brilliant.

Thank you very much!

When I started doing
the Tom Jones tribute,

I didn't think I'd ever, ever

get the chance to sing in
front of the real Tom Jones.

You know, my idol, really.

The Voice has come along and
it's given me my chance.

It's a God awful small affair

Io the girl with the mousy hair

But her mammy is yelling no

And her daddy has told her to go

But her friend is nowhere to be seen

As she walks through her sunken dream

To the seat with the clearest view

And she's hooked to the silver screen

But the film is a saddening bore

cause she's lived it ten times or more

She could spit at the eyes of fools

As they ask her to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dancehall

Oh man, look at those cavemen go

It's the freakiest show

Take a look at the lawman
beating up the wrong guy

Wough man, wonder if he'll ever know

he's in the best selling show

Is there life on mars?

Ooh, ooh...

Is there life on mars?

-Hi!
-Hello.

-What's your name?
- My name's David Kidd.

-Jamie, that was amazing.
- David!

-Oh, sorry, David!
- That's all right

I come from Wigan, so you can't understand me.

I really enjoyed it.

There was one note that
was so well controlled,

and it was so...
it went like this...

and it was so good.

Thank you very much!

Yeah, it was great.

Thank you.

You have a great, strong voice,

and the highs...
if I could suggest,

if you could try to control
the vibrato in the lower area,

that's...that's the only
thing that I find...

- Is that it?
- That's it!

- The highs were fantastic.
- Thank you very much.

It was pure, it was clean.

It reminded me a bit of you, in fairmess.

There was a touch of me there.

Well, I'll let you into
a secret, Tom.

I'm actually a Tom Jones
tribute act as well.

Can you sing a bit? Can you
do a bit? Would you mind?

Sing, like, a verse or something.

I've been in love so many times

I throught I knew the score

Now you treated me so wrong

I can't take any more...

Come on, Tom!

And it looks like

I'm never going to fall

In love

Again...

Come on!

Fall...

That's right!

In love...

That is high!

No, I'm never going to fall...

He's really good!

In love, oh, I mean it...

There we go!

Fall in love again

And for you to stand up for me,
Tom, that is an absolute honour.

I've loved you all my life!

Thank you.

I wish I could sing that high!

That was high!
Thank you!

Well, that was a bit of a high
key for me as well!

What key was that?

A-flat.
A-flat, I thought...

Is that high?
It is high!

- E. I do it in
- E. I do it in, "Eee, by gum!"

"Eee, by gum!"

Thank you.

It's not unusual to be loved by anyone

It's not unusual to have fun with anyone

But when I see you hanging about with anyone...

For Tom Jones to say that I can
get at that high note, higher than him,

I mean, that, to me...that's it.
That's all I wanted someone to say.

I know I'm good, because
they've told me I'm good.

Good man.

He was a really good
impersonator too.

That's a hell of a song, that.

Fall in love...

Yeah!

Some people don't like the spotlight,

but only find their voice when they sing

Like 22 year old Laura Oakes.

I love singing at weddings, because
the atmosphere is great, you know.

It's such a happy day for the
people that are getting married.

It's someone else's big day.

I can kind of just be in the background

But now, this is my big day,

and this is my time to
be in the spotlight.

Like Laura, Jessica
Steele is another shy girl

who finds confidence through singing

I've been singing since
I were little, really.

I become somebody else
when I'm singing.

I lose all my insecurities.

I leave all my troubles behind
and it just makes me feel,

like, really good.

I've entered other singing
competitions in the past,

and it didn't really go
as well as I'd hoped.

Cos I used to be really,
really confident, and...

and I'm just hoping that this will
give me that confidence back.

I think I'm just, like, scared
of getting another knock-back.

So, whilst Jessica waits for her moment,

it's already arrived for Laura.

I'm just trying to prove to myself
that I can overcome being shy

and being in the background,
and that I can be centre stage.

I'm just holding out for amazing now.

Next one!

When we first came here

We were cold and we were clear

With no colours in our skin

We were light and paper thin

Say my name

And every colour illuminates

Say my name

As every colour illuminates

We are shining

And we will never be afraid again

And when we come for you

We'll be dressed up all in blue

With the ocean in our arms

Kiss your eyes and kiss your palms

Say my name

And every colour illuminates

We are shining

And we will never be afraid again

Say my name

- Hi!
- How are you?

I'm good now!

How did that feel up there?

Amazing! It was so good, yeah!

Soak it in! Soak it in!

Thank you!

I'm so glad you came on.
Absolutely so glad.

Thank you!
Yeah, you've got some belt on you!

Honestly, I didn't turn around because
when Danny turned around,

he was so...
"Yeah!"

And then he was like,
"Yeah!"

So, I was like,
"Whoa!"

He was like, "If you touch
your button, it's..."

And then I was like...

Thank you very much!

She's on my team!

Thank you so much!
Thank you very much!

Well done! All that
stuff we can work on.

So Laura takes her
place on Team Danny.

But everything is still in
the balance for Jessica.

I feel like this is the biggest
performance that I'll ever do.

Everything else I've done,
because I was young

I didn't really care what came from it.

But now, I feel like this is it

and I just really, really
want it to work out for me.

You were working as a waitress
in a cocktail bar

When I met you

I picked you out, I shook you up
and turned you around

Turned you into someone new

Now five years later on you're
got the world at your feet

Success has been so easy feel

But don't forget it's me who put you
where you are now

And I can put you back down too

Don't, don't you want me

You know I can't believe it when
I hear that you won't see me

Don't, don't you want me

You'd better change it back or
we will both be sorry

Don't you want me baby

Don't you want me, oh

Don't you want me baby

Don't you want me, oh

God!

Hi. What's your name?

I'm Jess, and I'm from Sheffield

Good name!

There's a specific reason why
I didn't turn around.

You have a very, very unique, star
quality voice, you know?

But it wouldn't be fair to a
singer that I have on my team

that is similar to you.

And I told her I'm going to fight.

Now, I would be lying if I said
I was going to fight,

and then picked somebody similar to her.

So, that's the only reason
why I didn't turn around.

But I don't know why anybody else didn't.

How old are you?

I'm 21.

21. And what do you do every day?

what do you do for a living?

I teach little kids to sing.

It's all right. Don't cry.

Right, can we just sit on the step?

Ok, so, I didn't turn around because
I don't think you're ready.

There was a lady that came here
last series and none of us turned around.

Then she took our advice, went away,
and came back a year later,

and we all turned around.

And I feel like that's exactly
where you're at.

And I feel like if you worked
on your breathing,

if you worked on your diction, and
I don't want you to be sad.

I really don't, cos you need to be
so proud of yourself

that all those little kids that
you teach, honestly, are watching you.

and going.

"we can do that too!"

I feel the same thing that she's feeling.

I think that you need a little time.

I like what you did with the song,
though. I liked the idea of it.

Come on, let's go.

Genuinely. Come here. You're
fantastic, you know.

People forget, half is talent,
half is thick skin.

I think nerves got to me a little bit.

I'm going to try and take the positive
things that they've said

and come back next year with,
obviously, something better,

cos that just weren't good enough.

For some artists, The Voice is their
first shot at the big time.

For others, it could be their last chance.

Karl Michael is pinning everything
on this moment

People think having a record
deal means you've made it.

It doesn't.

About six months ago, I was in
the studio making an album,

and then literally 3 days after,

the record company decided to pull out.

I went from recording in
studios in New York

to cleaning windows in Earls Court.

In a matter of 6 months,
I lost everything

Thank you very much.
Cheers.

I spend the day cleaning
windows, and at night

I'm working in a bar just to have
enough money to pay for may rent.

It's a horrible feeling.

It's like climbing a mountain, and as
you're about to reach the top...

...you fall.

I feel like I've taken about 5
steps back in my life, yeah.

26, I should have a girlfriend
and living in a house,

not living in a bedsit on my own.

It's not where I want to be.

Everything's at stake for me.
I've got nothing.

All I've got is my voice.

I need to prove to myself and to
my family that I can do this.

It's my last shot. I don't want
to fail. I'm here to win.

I used to be a lunatic from the gracious days

I used to feel woebegone and
so restless nights

My aching heart would bleed
for you to see

Oh, but now

No more I love you's

The language is leaving me

No more I love you's

Changes are shifting

Outside the words

No more I love you's

The language is leaving me

No more I love you's

The language is leaving me in silence.

Thank you.

Hello! What's your name?

It's Karl Michael.

Karl. And how old are you?

I'm 26.

And why are you here today?

I just can't seem to catch my break.

You're in front of 4 people
who know how that feels.

And so it's nice to know that
you haven't given up

and you've kept fighting,

cos no-one understands how
hard it is until you live it.

And how every day, it can all
be taken away in a heartbeat.

I'm really proud of you for doing that.

Thank you so much. That means
a lot, coming from you.

I have never worked with
anyone with a voice like yours.

I think that's a good and a bad thing.

Oh, ok.

Mostly bad!

No!

Here he goes, with the pitch!

No, it's not bad at all, I think it's a great thing.

I'm a singer, and I love to sing

and I think that you would be
great with me vocally.

I think I could really teach you a lot,

and I think you could teach
me a lot, to be honest.

If you wnat to really learn
the technique and stuff

and understand what it's like to
be an artist right now. I'm your girl.

Thank you.

I love the way you sound.

I mean, the tone of your voice
is great, your style is great.

You don't sound like you're
trying to copy anybody.

If you did want me as your coach,

I would just want to find
great songs for you

and just help you along as best I could

But you have it, believe me.

Thank you so much.
Thank you. Thank you.

For me, I heard the same emotion

and the same passion...
it's that fire.

You know, I can tell that you've
been through a long struggle.

I've been in exactly those same shoes.

I would absolutely love to
have you on the team,

just to impart the knowledge
that I've learned,

cos we are...
we're so alike.

Yeah, I'm here to learn.

The reason why I turned around

is because I imagined
what was going on.

I imagined you walk on stage,
you test your mic. Get the key.

This guy's getting his key!

Not a lot of singers do that.

I was like, "You know what,
this guy's really serious"

"He needs a fighter with him."

No just a coach, but a person

that's really going to
knock down walls.

Standing in the hall of fame, baby!

So the choice is...really, it's
two choices. It's either Danny or me.

I'll just be like...you know
what I'm saying?

I'm still pinching myself.
This doesn't feel real right now.

The decision is yours.

Before you came here, you probably
already had the coach in mind

that you wanted to turn around.

Who was that guy?

It was between you two

All right see?
I'm psychic!

What?!

I'm psychic!

It's over!

I could learn loads from both of you.

Where my head lies and
what music I write...

who do I think I would
learn the most from?

And I'm half-Irish,
so it would be Danny.

Come on! Come on!

That was absolutely amazing.

I won't let you down

I won't let you let me down

Give it up for my boy!

Come on!

Mate, well done!

You did it!

Smacked it, dude!

The Irish thing worked for once,
and I never brought it up!

For once!

For once, yeah!

Are you Irish?!

I still feel like I'm in a dream.

Like, when I was up there,
I was just thinking,

"Hang on a minute, actually,
all four turned!"

That was the biggest one
of the day there

Everyone was going
all-in on that

One person comes along in the series

where you really see a lot of yourself in.

It must be something to do
with the troubles and the pain

that you've had in the past

But that kid's special.
Very special.

It seems that things happen for a reason.

I'm going to grab this
opportunity with both hands,

and I'm going to own it.

After another spectacular
night of auditions,

the coaches are now even
closer to their teams of 12.

Danny has secured another 2 artists,
bringing his total to 7.

I'm not really worried about any other team.

Everybody has a stand-out. I just
happen to have more of them.

Jessie's added 1 artist,
bringing her toral to 8.

At the moment, it's make or break,
so I will only push my button

if it's incredible.

With 2 new artists,
Will's team is at 7.

You know, I pick things
like opera, folk,

things that I don't have already.

After adding 1 artist,
Tom has also got 7.

All the coaches have strong
teams but I have the strongest!

Next week...

The search for the dream continues

This is the biggest decision of your life!

as the coaches battle hard
to secure their acts.

Don't confuse me!

The fight is far from over.

Tom!

Yeah!
