emotionally equipped to make.

I chose it in relevance
to my mother.

Whenever I sing the song,
I think of her.

My mom is my super woman,

Both sides of my family
are very, very religious.

So coming out to her,
it took quite a while.

I was nervous about telling her,
but she kind of just had

this vibe of,
"I still love you just as much."

And that made me feel kind of
like the world

was off my shoulders, really.

I love the way
you're performing it.

I didn't really have notes
until the key change.

There was just a couple of
really, really high notes.

I think it's going to be
a matter of figuring out

how you breathe
your way into it.

Samara is a tiny little thing,
but when she starts singing,

that voice is big.
She is really gifted.

Whenever I go to hit high notes,
if I'm not, like,

super, super confident
in the note,

it always kind of wavers
a little bit.

So I'd just say,
go full confidence.

In my mind, I just always see it
as a little ledge.

And I just go tap the ledge,
basically.
Just jump. [ Laughs ]

Just jump off.
Yeah. And you can do it.

It's not about her
being able to.

It's about the confidence of
knowing that she can be able to.

I love this song.
It's very special to me.

Growing up,
it was an unsettling feeling

to see my parents struggle.

We were always moving.
Eventually, we became homeless.

In that time,
music was my safety blanket.

This song is about being
in a situation

Samara, you know, for ‐‐ for me,
when I think of Tina Turner,

this is actually one of
her happier songs, you know,

so the way you performed it,
I loved it.

Shadale, you came out here,
and you were doing so great,

but then you went from great
into, like, exceptional.

There's no denying
that we all felt it, yeah.

Samara, I have been such a fan
of your voice.

I've always felt
that connection feels like,

"she was the one
that got away."

And I love seeing you
as an artist

kind of perform
how you would at a show.

I started to think about her
end of your performance

because one of

through everything she does.

And I think that's
what we felt today.

I think, vocally,

you gave your best performance
that you've given.

And the thing that made it
break through was the emotion.

who I think is one of the best
vocalists on this show.

I was just listening

He works with all styles.
For him to give me feedback

when he creates music
on the daily

that the world falls
in love with, it's crazy.

The fiddle?

Yeah, on this show.
That's great.

Blake: One of the biggest
debates I ever got in

was with Kelly Clarkson,
who insisted that

a fiddle and a violin
were two different instruments.

Feel like I heard a fiddle,
and that's a little bit country.

It's the exact same
instrument.

to incorporate the fiddle

and to show originality.

My dad and I really had
a bond with music.

Me and my dad
are in the bluegrass band.

We've been touring
throughout the country

for the last three
or four years.

It's full‐circle moment for me,
listening to these artists

in the car with my dad,

and then him watch
and listen to me

play these songs, you know,
on national television.

Man, I wish I grew up
in the South.

We just didn't have
country music in England.

I discovered it when I first
came over to America.

It's just beautiful.

You've got R&B tendencies
to your voice that are just,

like, beautiful little runs

that fit in so well
with country music.

The more you can make
the song your own,

the more you can basically shine
as an individual artist.

Carson obviously
bleeds country music.

He knew the fiddle part
like the back of his hand,

and I can see him becoming
a really great country artist.

because I love songs
that tell stories,

and not all real stories
have a happy ending.

I'm actually newly single.

I've had
those relationships

that seemed like they
would work on paper, too.

And they end up
not working at all.

Mine and his relationship
originally worked on paper.

You don't want to know
our nicknames in high school.

It's not cool.

Basically anything

When I was in high school,

and that's really important.

certain notes softly

when it comes to
full voice.

How do you tap into that?

I always pretend like
I'm somebody else.

I've always approached
being on stage.

new album now,

and they're deep,
and they're personal.

Soon as they're released,
they belong to everyone else.

is people's first dance

I think less about

how I feel about it
and more about

how other people
feel about it.

the same lane

So much of our career

and I would not acknowledge
that the one thing

that was missing in my life
