It's almost like you're being asked
to manipulate people.
I'm deceptively deceptive.
I could be the mole,
if I could keep my mouth shut.

[Alex] The Daintree Rainforest, Australia.
It's here that 12 strangers
will begin an epic competition
that will challenge them
in both body and mind.

that only one, in the end, will win.

Among them is an impostor, the mole.
A double agent placed in the game
to sabotage the others' efforts
to earn money.
[Alex] Recruited by the producers,
the mole's objective is to disrupt…
You didn't open the bag ever?
…divide…
- I want to know, what is your game?
- …and deceive.
- She blew it. They believed me.
- Shh, shh.
The mole's identity is a secret.
No one knows who he or she is.
So no one knows who to trust.
[Casey] I don't trust anyone,
and I don't expect anyone else
to trust me.
You've lost 30 grand.
Does anyone have any ideas
about who might have sabotaged to date?
- [line calling]
- [Alex] It's a simple game.
- Complete the missions.

[Alex] Win the cash.
How are you communicating with them?
[exhales]
[Alex] And most important of all,
work out who is the mole.
To start the game, players have been told
to find a plane deep in the jungle.
[Casey] I feel really ready for this.
I know that there's gonna be
tons of twists and turns.
And as a COVID nurse,
that was what I dealt with daily,
so I know that's gonna make me
a great player for this game.
[Kesi] I am a computer analyst,
and I am intelligent.
I'm a critical thinker.
Not only is that gonna help me
find the mole,
but it's also gonna help me
win the prize pot.
- [Casey] Hello? Is anyone there?

I know I hear voices.
I am super excited because I've never
left the United States before.

And now that I am halfway
across the world, it's unreal.

[Jacob] Ohio. Middle of nowhere.
Being from a small town will definitely
make the other players underestimate me.
And that's what I want them to do.

I'm from Brooklyn. So, you know,
I'm used to the concrete jungle,
not no real jungle.
Spiders, leeches, dinosaurs,
lions, and tigers, and bears.
I'm like, that's next level.
Shit. That's the plane right there.
I see a plane.
It was quite mashed up,
but I was like, "This is a real plane,"
and I'm like, "What the hell is going on?"
That really got me. Some Jurassic Park
type of situation right here. [Laughs]
Shit, that's a big-ass spider.

I think what makes me the ultimate player
is the fact that I continuously
shatter glass ceilings.

I make up less than 1%
of Black female pilots

the determination.

People always underestimate me
because of my career.
I'm a professional gamer,
and I'm excited
to step into a real-life game.

for the door.
We need to get inside somehow.
There's gotta be something in there
that we need to figure this out.
I think asking a lot of questions
and paying attention to every detail
will play to my advantage when I'm trying
to figure out who the mole is.

So we know we have to find a plane.

I do think people will think I'm the mole
because academically,
I'm extremely intelligent,
I'm a little hard to read.
And I think that that can definitely
make someone think I'm being deceptive.

[Greg] Oh, there's the plane.
Ultimately, one of these people
is totally gonna screw me over.

and to throw as many people off

it could be on a branch.

My name is Alex Wagner,
and I am going to be with you
on this fantastical adventure
beginning right now,
right here,
in the world's oldest rainforest,
the Daintree.
[bird cawing]
Your first mission begins right now.
You are going to have to retrieve
three pieces of cargo from the jungle.
Each piece of cargo
is worth $5,000 for the pot.
One is going to be up high,
suspended in the trees.
One will be down low, buried underground.
And one will be submerged underwater.
What?
[Alex] You will first need
to locate the cargo,
work out how to salvage it,
and then return it here,
where you will keep it safe until morning.
Divide yourselves into three groups.
Everything you'll need is in the plane,
including some actual paper maps.
- You're welcome.
- [Dom laughs]
[William] I'm terrible with maps.
I've never used a map in my life.
I have an iPhone.
[Joi] Because I'm a pilot,
I'm good at navigation.
They're gonna rely on me in this game.
Most importantly,
listen to this part carefully,
one of you beautiful people
is going to be working
to sabotage your efforts.
That person is the mole.
As soon as Alex said
the mole is among us,
I looked around, like,
"One of y'all liars." [laughs]
It's more than just completing a mission
at this point.
We also have to be on lookout or alert
for any…
Any activity that could be mole-related.
[Alex] Okay?
Everybody good?
You, by chance,
don't have the key for that plane, do you?
[laughing]
Lucky you asked. Here you go.

So in my group,
I have Dom, Kesi, and Avori.
The "Up High" group
attracts the physical overachievers.
[Osei] Okay, so I'll go low
'cause I'm not swimming.
[Greg] The "Down Low" group attracts
people who want to hide in the dirt.
Like a mole.
I guess if nobody else
wants to go in the water, then that's us.
I'm okay swimming.
And the water group attracts people
who want to be perceived as team players
because they're doing
the least desirable challenge.

[Pranav] Before we can find the cargo,
we need to get the maps
and bags out of the plane.

Without both of those,
it will be impossible
to do our challenges.

- All right, we gotta go behind the plane.
- [Avori] Back, yep. Let's go.
[Dom] All right, get that money!
[William] Whoever's in the front
should take the map.
It's a lot of responsibility on you.
[Pranav] This is fairly simple.
We should follow the ridge
and see if we get to water.
[Jacob] Right away,
Pranav grabbed the map.
The only thing I could think
was how vast this jungle was.
[Joi] Plane is there.
So we're just gonna make a left.
- Then we'll walk a few feet, and then...
- Fifteen, 20.
- Let's go.
- [Sandy] Let's go.
They're going to expect me
to be a good navigator and take the lead.
[Joi] Should we run? [Laughs]
[Joi] I grab the map, Osei grabs the bag,
and the two girls follow.
[Osei] We're following you, Joi.
[Joi] This is great for me.
It's what I live for.
We're not gonna get lost.
[Jacob]
I think right here's the Sandy Beach.
So it says we got to turn left
at the Sandy Beach.
I would say let's go up to that protruding
outcrop where we saw, and then head left.
- Agree or want to keep going this way?
- [Pranav] I agree.
- Okay.
- [Jacob] Let's go real quick.
- [Greg] I see sand.
- [Jacob] We should be hitting water soon.
[Pranav] We should be hitting water.
[Greg] I'm gonna go
as fast as I can without rushing.
I'll be one of the strongest players,
because as a focus group moderator,
I know how to ask the right questions.
Soon as I spot the mole,
I'll feel it in my gut right away.
I don't think we're there yet.
We're right about here.
Follow the ridge
and see if we get to water.
[Greg] Okay, yeah.
That's something to celebrate.
We didn't get lost on the way here.
So we need to go…
- Yeah, this way.

[Joi] Yeah. Let's hustle, y'all!
[Joi] Look for a red flower tree.
That's gonna be our first landmark, okay?
I hope we didn't pass it.
[Sandy] Joi, she's a pilot.
She's pretty good with directions.
So she grabs the map
and kind of leads us to find the cargo.
[Joi] So we were going
in the wrong direction.
So if we just kind of head over this way…
- [Sandy] Let's go.
- Yeah. Come on.
[Osei] As Joi is leading us
to the promised land, I was thinking,
"You're not trying to play me out here,
'cause we lost."
"'Cause you a pilot
that don't know how to pilot."
[Osei] Think we should go to the right?
Unless you're the mole, of course.
- Joi?
- [Joi] What?
- To the right.
- Sorry!
- No, it's okay.
- [Joi laughs]
- So, we came...
- No, that means we're going right.
Think about it, that's behind the plane.
But we have to go left before we go right.
[Dom] This might be in the gully.
- So we gotta be going that way.
- See, this is why I'm bad with directions.
[William] So I'm carrying
and doing the map? Something's off.
- [Dom] Hey, Will.
- Wanna switch?
- You're the Viking, bro.
- [William] No, I'm good. [Laughs]
Dom, if you got the map,
you should be in front. Let me see it.
We took a clearly wrong turn.
Gonna be up here through the right.
So I took the map. Five minutes later,
we were at our objective.
- [Kesi] Oh my God.
- [Dom] Is that it?
- [Avori] Yes!
- Yeah.
[Dom] Oh, it's in a net!
We got cargo, baby! A whole lot of money.
- Whole lot of money.
- Oh my God.
[Kesi] We get to this open area,
and we see the cargo.
There are ropes and wires surrounding us,
a pulley system.
That's how we get it. We have to go
across the lines to get to it.
[Dom] It looks like
it just came down from the plane.
Okay, how are we gonna get that crate?
- [Avori] All right. Let's open the bag.
- [William] It's got four helmets.
[Kesi] Okay.
- [Avori] Harnesses.
- [Will] Harnesses.
We open up the bag,
and it's a clear rappelling system.
And inside,
it was like this big, red clue.
"Inside here is a clue that will
help you succeed in the mission."
"You can open it at any time,
but it will cost you $2,500."
Opening that was not an option.
I didn't come here
to lose money right away.
- [Dom] Let's not open that.
- [Kesi] Let's not.
I mean, we could just climb, perhaps,
if we have these ropes.
[Greg] Wow!
Okay, we did it. We got here.
I feel like we're gonna have to search
in the water.
We see the raging rapids.
This is crazy!
We could die in this river,
and nobody cares.
We made it!
We made it. Here we go.
[Pranav] Immediately upon arriving
at the river,
it's time to open our bag
and see what we have.
What do we got here?
"Inside is a clue
that will help you succeed."
[Greg] Oh, water shoes!
"You can open it at any time,
but it will cost you 2,500."
[Casey] So did we decide on
if we're gonna wanna take the clue?
I think we'll have to make a call
to see whether we wanna let go of $2,500
to go get the prize.
[Casey] We decided it wasn't time
to open our clue.
We wanted to see how well we could do
because we didn't want
to sacrifice $2,500.
[Jacob] All right.
Remember to take big steps.
We don't want someone falling.
On our map, our search area of the river
was a hundred yards.
It was a very large search area
for the water team.
[Greg shrieks] Was that a snake?
[Casey] Greg, you okay?
- It was a branch.
- [Jacob] Come on. We gotta keep moving.
I don't want to rush through this area.
I'd rather feel extremely confident
that, like, this area here
is completely done.
[Jacob] I'm worried. Time is flying by.
Yeah, we're 30 minutes up.
Greg's a little just kind of distracted.
That set off some red flags.
I am very unsure of Greg at this point.
[Greg] We can't go back with nothing.
[Joi] Don't give up, y'all. We can do it.
[Sandy] Thirty minutes to go.
[Joi] Let's just look down low.
Ugh, I think a bug went up my nose.
- We're probably really close.
- [Osei] Where exactly do you think we are?
Like, over here somewhere,
it has to be. I mean…
We are going around in circles.
This is the river, right?
Okay, that means we're too far down then.

I'm starting to get real suspicious
because I'm like, "Yo, you a pilot."
"Why are we lost?"
- [Joi] You see anything up there?
- [Sandy] No.
[Osei] We in the middle of the jungle.
Joi is supposed to be
our Dora the Explorer.
We ain't exploring nothing.
[Joi] I don't even know how far east
we're supposed to walk.
Either she's lying
or she's really the mole.
I just want to make sure when we go back,
we're not going back this way.
But isn't the cargo…
This is where the cargo is.
Yeah, but this is where the plane is.
- How many times have you done this?
- [Avori] A lot.
But I don't usually use ropes.
I just free climb. I free solo.
- Good thing you're on this team.

I decided to join the Up High group
because I'm a climber.
I know a lot about ropes.
I'm also not scared of heights at all.
How a belay works is you release this
when someone climbs,
and then lock it when they don't.
So, right away,
Avori has a mass amount of knowledge.
[Dom]
When I pull down like that, it goes up.
Once we figure out this pulley system
and we figure out what we have to do,
we're all like, "Okay, somebody's
gotta go up and get that crate."
Have fun. Hoist me!
She's gonna go first. Let's do it.
[Dom] I got a good team right now.
I'm feeling good
about coming home with 5K.
[Kesi] Pull.

Wait, before we get too high,
I'm not moving closer to this bag.

because Avori

just moving it around
and everything like that.
And I'm like,
"Look, we ain't got no time for this."

Avori, I'm thinking, could be the mole.
Probably wasn't my brightest moment
as a player.
Unless you want to know what's in there.
It tells us how to unlock it.
[Greg] Should we open up the clue?
I think we should definitely
open up the clue.
We used up half of our time,
so that's half of the money.
We should go to the end
where the end of the search area is.
Because what if it's obvious?
It'll be embarrassing
if we come back with nothing.
[Pranav]
I was definitely a little bit suspicious.
Opening the envelope is something
that the mole would want
because 2,500 dollars less than 5,000
is definitely still a success
in the eyes of the mole.
[Greg] Open it. I say open it.

[Greg] I don't care
that we'll blow half the money.
There's no way
you could have checked all of this area.
[Jacob]

[Greg] We open the clue, and it doesn't

It just tells us about how we open it
when we find it. Great.
[Jacob] It could be anywhere.

This would be a great area for it to be.

My focus was locked in
on getting that crate on the ground,
and Kesi got up in the air
right next to me like a boss.

There are so many knots
that seem impossible to untie.
[Kesi grunts]
[William]
Are we making progress on that?

That starts making me nervous.

[Kesi] We need to get the cargo
into the plane,
or this $5,000 means nothing.
[Osei] How much time we have?
[Sandy] Ten minutes, exactly.
It has to be somewhere in here, down low.
We're close. I know we are.
It's just a matter of finding that spot,
but we're here.
This is the first money
for the prize pot, guys.
[Osei] I'm very suspicious of everybody
on my team, unfortunately,
- because, number one, we're losing.

Osei is suspicious just because he is
one of the ones standing around.
[Joi] It has to be along this river

but turns out, we got lost anyway.

that we didn't get the $5,000.
You would think a pilot
would be able to read a very simple map.

- [Osei] We didn't get one.

I don't feel too sure
I got the right person,
and I'm not too sure
that I got the wrong person.
That's what's making me so nervous,
because I just don't know.
[Dom] It really is just pure intuition.

[Jacob] My mind is just going
a million miles an hour,
but I feel like
I can trust my gut instinct.
[Samara] Immediately,
I'm suspicious of Will.
Granted, he might have had
to take the cargo,
but it lets me know that he can
switch it on and off.
