The Amazing Race Australia (2011–…): Season 6, Episode 17 - Leg 17 (Mexico) - full transcript

In Merida, on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, teams get to make cactus tacos, sing a verse of the classic song La Cucaracha and perform with a mariachi band, celebrating the Day of the Dead in style.

In the first of three
massive Mexican legs,

our teams have raced through
the state of Campeche,

battled hard through the Rainbow City

and finally met me at
the Virtual Pit Stop

where I handed them their next clue

and told them to keep on racing,

rapido, rapido, viva-la-Mexico style.

What does he mean?

A Virtual Pit Stop?
What the hell is that?

"Route Info. Continue racing."

"Make your way to Merida,
the White City of Mexico."

Merida sits at the cultural
crossroads of Mexico.

The bustling capital of
the Yucatan Peninsula

known for its grand
Spanish colonial architecture

and ancient Mayan ruins.

It was founded in 1542
by Spanish conquistadors

who ransacked the region's
five original Mayan pyramids

to build their own settlement.

It came to be known as
the White City of Mexico

for the white limestone used
to make the local buildings.

Our seven remaining teams

are already racing to Merida

where they'll face a Double U-Turn.

The first two teams must
U-Turn another team,

forcing them to complete both
challenges in the upcoming Detour.

It's a potentially
game-changing twist in this...

Let's go!

...the 17th leg of
The Amazing Race Australia.

"It's also time to start
paying close attention."

OK!
Let's go!

Oh! God!

"Continue racing."
Yep.

Heaps tired.

I know, babe, but it's not the end.

- What a stitch-up, hey?
- Take the third right.

Double U-Turn.

Hopefully they all pick each
other off and leave us alone.

True.

Have I got the car keys?
No, I've got them.

What the hell just happened?

I swear we were just, like,
on that mat to go home.

You think that's it and then...
it's not.

We wanna win.

We wanna go home to our babies
so that we can buy them a house

and I just feel like
this is our chance.

Double U-Turn coming up.

Double U-Turn.
Been dreading this moment.

Double U-Turn means the first person
needs to U-Turn someone

and the second person then
needs to U-Turn as well.

I don't see how we could U-Turn
a team that's been here

every leg, like we have,

so it would have to be
one of the returning teams.

If it is us, though,
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna cry.

I don't think we're a big threat!

Yeah, we're sitting third-last.

It's nerve-racking, U-Turns, hey?
Yep.

You know, a team can really
end your race.

"Detour. Cactus or Chorus."

A Detour is a choice
between two challenges,

both with their own pros and cons.

In this Detour, teams will have to
choose between Cactus or Chorus.

Everybody loves tacos,

but in Mexico, the local specialty
has a bit more bite than most.

Teams that choose Cactus
must head here

to Merida's famed Taqueria La Lupita.

It may not look like much,
but this taqueria

draws a prestigious crowd
of celebrities and critics

hungry for the best tacos in Mexico.

Here, teams must prepare
five cactus tacos.

They have to carefully remove
every dangerous spike

from the cactus flesh,
grill it to perfection,

and press their own tortillas.

They have to finish it off
with pico de gallo,

a spicy Mexican salsa.

When they get a chef's kiss,

they'll receive their next clue.

Teams who choose Chorus
must learn and perform

the famous folk song 'La Cucaracha'
with a mariachi band.

Now, Mexico wouldn't be Mexico
without mariachi.

Mariachi is music of
the country people.

It celebrates its struggles,
joys and growth.

Each team must learn and perform

one chorus word for word
and perform it with the band.

10 different colours.

I just had to find all of
the light pink flags.

I had to count them up and
give my number to the judge.

There's a lot of pink.

Heath, you look beautiful.

Thank you.

Check, please.
Check, please!

Oh, how did they get done so fast?

Thank you so much.

Thank you! Gracias!

"Who's strung out?"

Me.

Start again. I messed it up.

Take your time here, hon.

- Don't rush it.
- Yep.

Look how many pink flags
there are.

You know what colour
you're looking for?

Pink. But there's light pink
and dark pink.

I feel like to just look up here,

there's, like,
different shades of pink.

So by the time you get
down to this end,

you've forgotten what colour pink
you're actually looking for.

Yeah, you get the bags.
Give me the clue.

Flags.
OK.

We got so lost.
We got so lost.

I don't even know anymore.

Once all the other teams arrived,

I definitely felt the pressure,

'cause I don't wanna mess up
being in first place.

I think that's a different colour.

I'm gonna start again.

I'm really trying not to cry.

I know. I know.

It's fine, babe.

Don't you dare cry
that paint off your face.

Sorry. Has that ruined it?

Yep!

Alright, I can hear them.
They're coming.

We're just gonna have to run.

Come on, come on.

This is definitely a race.

Quick, Toni! Quick!

That came up alright.
Mm.

Check, please.

Yes! Thank you.

Thanks so much for that.
Thank you.

Alright, let's go.
Alright, let's go.

To count this many flags,

going through the rows

like this, "Light pink, light pink,"

counting, counting, counting
all the way down to the end,

we were kind of going
line by line by line by line

and everyone was, like...

Our arms were getting sore
from doing this.

Our necks were getting sore
from looking up

'cause it was really time-consuming.

Oh, my head. Ow.

Seriously, what could
the number be? It's like...

Let's keep going. Yeah,
that's not one. No, that's not one.

Go, Mori!

You see it?
Babe, people are still here.

17, 18, 19, 23!

23, 21!

I hope you all lost count!

I used to like you!

We were so far behind
and you know what?

We haven't been cheeky
or played dirty

and I was a bit dirty
after being U-turned.

We thought we'd rock up
and everyone would be gone

and we'd be here
doing our own thing,

so to see everybody still here,

it's given us some hope
we're still in the game.

12...

Damn!

Jamus
was, like, 136

and then Angel was, like, 7

and I'm like, "Well,
our range is 'ridonkulous' here."

So we got everybody together.

We started to just rotate then.

Let's just go, guessing.

So it was just trial and error.

Yes! Nah.

Please be right.

Oh!

It was my turn to step up
with the blackboard and the chalk

and I put 79 and I just wrote,
"Please," with a smiley face.

Far out!

- What number?
- What is it?

79.
79?

Yeah, you've got it?
Yep, yep.

'Cause that's...
Sorry. I'm sorry. We had to.

It's OK.

"Please."
It was the "Please", right?

I have manners.
I'm a nice English girl.

Yes! Heathy!

And so good to be the first person
to do that challenge successfully,

but everybody was around me
so they could all see and hear.

Route.

"Make your way to El Minaret
to find Beau."

Now all the teams have gotta do

is come and find me here

at Casa Blanco,
also known as El Minaret,

which is in the poshest part of town.

Our racers don't know it yet,

but this is another Virtual Pit Stop.

That means they're about
to start their third nonstop leg

here in Mexico
after racing for three days straight.

It's a gruelling end for the 17th leg
of The Amazing Race Australia

and they better hurry

because one team will be eliminated.

OK.

Thank you.

Yay! Thank you!

Yay! Thank you so much!

Whoo! Thank you.

Thank you, thank you!

Thank you. Thank you so much.

"Hurry. The last team
to check in may be eliminated."

Oh! Let's go.
Let's go.

Door. Frankie, door.
It's unlocked.

This is the first time
in the race every single person

has been on the way to the Pit Stop

within a couple of seconds
of each other.

There's one silver car
in front of us, babe.

That's a team in front, Heath.

You know what? If it's Cynthia and
Tiff, they can win. They can have it.

She turned around and gave me
the chalk and the board

and she was like,
"This is me saying sorry!"

That's good enough for me.

Oh, this is
definitely a race.

We'll arrive at the same time
so it'll be a run.

I'll get the bags
when we get there.

Frankie and Angel
are still behind us.

Yep, that's alright.

There was one more team
behind us, hey?

There's two.
Who?

Pako and Mori and these guys,
whoever these guys are.

Are they...
Steph and Lauren.

Come on, come on, come on.

Stay with those
two cars in front.

Just caught up
so we're back in the game.

Don't really know where
everyone's sitting at the moment,

but we're just gonna have to run.

I hate that we're stuck
behind these guys.

Can you get in the other lane
to overtake them?

Oh, what the hell?

Ohh!

Yeah, it's a right turn anyway.
Don't let him back in.

Do not let him back in.
He's not gonna let you in.

- Gotta be in here somewhere.
- What are we looking for?

- Go!
- Pop it.

I'm popping it, Kelly!

Let's go.

He said right.

We can pass them. Go, go, go.
We got the pace.

Where?

Go, G. You got this.
Go on. Run, run, run.

- This is it?
- Go, go, go.

Read me the name of the building.

Go back, go back, go back, go back.
Oh!

Quick, Toni. Quick!

This way. This way, G.

What?
Toni, quick!

Can you see them?

- This way, Ange.
- Go, go, go, G.

It's first two to the mat.
Come on, G. Go, George! Run, George!

- George, where are you?
- Here!

George, come on.

Ah! Thank you, thank you.

Kelly and Georgia,
you are the first team to check in.

Thank you.

That makes you, Heath and Toni,
the second team to check in.

Well done, guys.
Good job, guys. Good job.

Now, Kelly and Georgia,
for being the first team to check in,

you've won an amazing
four-night holiday for two

to experience the best of Cairns
and the Great Barrier Reef

with a Quicksilver reef cruise

thanks to Crystalbrook Flynn
and Quicksilver Group.

Well done.
So there you go.

Thank you, guys.

- You guys enjoy Mexico?
- Yeah.

It's not over yet.
This is a Virtual Pit Stop.

- Here's your next clue.
- Oh, Jesus.

What? Not more.

My soul just, like, died a little
bit inside of me when he said that.

But you just have to keep going.
It's a race.

Read it and race. See you later.

Vamonos.

Angel and Frankie, you are
the third team to check in.

Yeah, bro.
But this is a Virtual Pit Stop.

Here's your next clue.

Keep on racing.
Thank you.

- We got a holiday.
- Yeah, we did!

Heath, come on.

When you can, you need to turn right
so that we can get back on to 64

because I don't know
what the other streets are.

Casa Blanco?

El Minaret, Casa Blanco?

Nup. OK, all good.
No worries. Thank you.

We have no idea where we're going.

- Should we just ask this guy, hon?
- No, go on.

Ask this guy.
No! Just go!

We don't know where we're driving!

Ooh! Ah!
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yes, yes, yes. OK. Oh!

- Come on, come on, come on.
- We're going, hon.

Our last little hope is that

people don't know
where it is, hon, you know?

So 64 is the same street like this.

So I need to go that way?

Yes.
Alright.

You need to go straight,
straight through.

Yep, yep, we're on the right road.

Just keep going.
I've found another route.

Shit, Mori, we're gonna have to run.
Yep.

Just grab any bag, babe, and run.

This is, what? 47? So
probably gonna be your second right.

Yep. Ready?

Alright. It's us.

Let's go.

Up, up. Through, through.

Alright, I can hear them.
They're coming.

Pako and Mori, you're
the fourth team to check in.

Steph and Lauren,
you are the fifth team to check in.

Thank you.
But this is a Virtual Pit Stop.

Of course it is!
So here's your next clue.

Keep on racing. See you soon!
Thank you. Thanks.

Oh, he's very deflated, isn't he?
He's a bit sad.

This is the never-ending
Amazing Race!

That's it.

Come on, come on!
There's already six cars here.

Really?

Tiff, come.

Quick!

Where are we going?
I don't know. Where are you running?

Where?!

No, look up there.

Oh, my God!
Up there.

Here, here, here.

Stairs there. Look.

Quick.
OK.

Tiffany and Cynthia, you are
the sixth team to check in.

Because you girls
are so happy and smiling a lot,

it's a Virtual Pit Stop.

Here's your next clue.
Thanks.

Read it and continue racing.

Yay!
Yay.

Really, what are you guys doing?

What are you putting us through?

Chelsea and Jamus,
you are the last team to check in.

Again.

And you are eliminated.

Unfortunately, guys,
your time on the race is over.

Yeah.
Just wasn't our...

Just wasn't our day again.
Yeah.

But we had fun.
We finished something fun, though.

Yeah.

You know, I really am impressed
with the make-up skills.

Yeah, I think you look great.
Yeah, thanks.

It was actually weird.

I feel like yesterday
when we checked in last,

I cried all my tears,

which is why I didn't
feel so down today.

We just did well together today.

You've done yourselves
and your families proud.

Yep.
Yeah.

You kids are gonna love youse,
Australia's gonna love youse.

You're representing so many more
people than yourselves.

You know that.
Yep.

I hope you don't argue too much
on the flight home, you know?

Just stick together for a bit.
Nah, we'll be sweet.

Yeah.
Yeah.

Definitely have no regrets

for this amazing
experience we just...

Had.
...got...had.

It's been the best
experience of my life.

Well, it's great
to see you smiling anyway

and, um, yeah, you can
hold your heads high.

Thanks, Beau. Thanks.
Thanks, Beau.

Cheers, mate.
Oh, shit!

That's my only white shirt.
Oh, sorry!

Thanks, bro.
Sorry.

Nah, nah. I'll speak to you soon.
Thank you. Thanks.

Thanks, Beau.
It's alright.

Oh, well.

It's their time to go home,
time to see their kids.

You know what I mean?
Have you got kids?

Oh, you got kids?
No.

Oh, you don't have kids?

Next time on
The Amazing Race Australia,

six exhausted teams...

I'm done
with these Virtual Pit Stops!

...push on through Mexico.

Where the hell are we?
Oh, my God. It's so full-on.

But with another
elimination looming...

How you going, Georgia?
Struggling!

...every decision counts.

Do you reckon we should count again?
Nah, maybe we're thinking too much.
