Nashville (2012–2018): Season 3, Episode 6 - Nobody Said It Was Going to Be Easy - full transcript

After a health scare, Juliette decides to ask Avery if he wants to be a part of her life as the baby's father. Then, Gunnar deals with some recent life changing news and seeks advice from Scarlett. Meanwhile, Rayna sweeps the nominations for the CMA Awards but is up against her fiance Luke for the most prized "Entertainer of the Year" category. Her glory is abruptly interrupted when she finds out Maddie and Daphne have been misbehaving back at home. While out on tour, Deacon finds his purpose in music thanks to the help of Pam, a backup singer in Luke's band and country music star Sara Evans guest stars as herself, performing "Put My Heart Down" with Luke. Later, Scarlett befriends an unlikely new friend.

Previously on "Nashville"...

- Is Micah mine?
- Yes.

Thank you for the sandwich.

- What's your name?
- Scarlett.

I'm Terry.

I hate you.

It's just a stupid bar fight.

Flirted with the wrong girl.

I need to know if I can sign
a couple of kids to the label...

With only one parent's consent.

Shooting Ruke... Pretty tweet-worthy stuff.

Ruke is the thing that they're all saying.

After sending some text
about being pregnant,

you won't even face me?!

What's wrong?

Can't... breathe.

Juliette, what's wrong? What happened?

Can you please clear this path for me?

Juliette, can you hear me?

- What's wrong with her?
- Is she gonna be okay?

I need you both to stay
back. I'm going with you.

It's okay, baby.

You're gonna be okay.

Hello?

Hey, it's Zoey.

I know things are complicated

between you and Juliette right now,

but she just collapsed backstage.

- What happened?
- I don't know,

but they're taking her
away in an ambulance.

So that's the real reason you left Texas...

You got pregnant.

I'm sorry.

I never should have said anything.

You could have called.
You could have written!

My parents wouldn't let me.

You know how controlling they were.

You know how much they hated you and Jason.

Well, you got away from
them eventually, didn't you?!

Do you think it was easy?

I took Micah, and I left with nothing!

We slept in my car.

I had to buy him clothes and feed him.

So I'm sorry if finding his
father wasn't my top priority!

But you did find me, right?
You found me at the Barn party.

Why didn't you tell me then?

I don't know.

So you were just gonna leave
town and never tell me...

Never tell me that I have a son!

To make it easier on Micah, yeah.

I never told him, either.

Me and him... That's the life he knows.

And now I have a chance to make something

with this guy in Tulsa.

I don't even know what to do with all this.

Just forget I said it.

It was a mistake.

Why did this happen to me?

Well, sometimes, it's a random occurrence,

but we're running tests to make sure.

You suffered a pulmonary embolism.

A blood clot in your
leg went into your lung.

We've started anticoagulant
meds to dissolve the clot

and to keep you from forming a new one.

- What about the baby?
- The baby's fine, too.

Until we get the results,
just try to get some rest.

You gave me quite a scare.

Where are you going?

Everyone's downstairs,

gathering for the CMA nominations.

Oh, good God.

What... is it just morning grumpiness,

or is there a problem?

I get it. You think Luke's
a great guy. That's fine.

Doesn't mean I'm gonna climb
out of bed to celebrate the man.

You don't have to celebrate.
You can just be sociable.

"Sociable"... only reason
I'm on this damn tour

is 'cause he's making me be.

You do realize we met because of it.

And that's the one good
thing came out of it.

Still rather be home,
spending time with my daughter.

That's why I'm gonna do my bit
and not one damn thing more.

Look...

I know you don't want to
be here, and I know why,

but it's not the worst hand to be dealt.

You done?

You know what? Lighten
up. Breathe a little.

You'll be a whole lot happier in life

if you try and make the most of it.

- Hey!
- Hi!

- Good girl. You brought that champagne.
- I did.

I don't normally drink
this early in the morning.

Well, it's the CMA nominations.
It's your first shot at a nod!

You got to have a glass of champagne.

What if I don't get one?

Well, then we'll just drink
it straight from the bottle.

You have a shot at so many nominations.

Are you nervous?

Uh, I don't know.

I don't usually get nervous
with these things, but, um...

I think because it's the
first year with Highway 65,

it sort of has more meaning to it,

so, yeah, I'm a little bit nervous.

Should we start drinking now, do you think?

Uh, yes, we should start drinking now.

Okay.

Whoa! Whoo! Yeah!

Hey, listen up! I'll tell y'all what!

If I get nominated in all five categories,

everybody's getting bonuses.

Whoa. Reality crew coming through.

Hey, hey, babe. W...
what an awesome surprise.

Yeah, I guess I just had to be here

to see if you get nominated for anything.

What happened to your hand?

What happened to your face?

Everybody, quiet. They're starting.

It's country music's biggest
morning as we announce

the nominations for the 48th annual

Country Music Association Awards.

We're joined now by Sara Evans,
live from the Waldorf Astoria,

to reveal the nominees.

Sara.

Good morning, everybody. Here we go.

CMA nominees for new artist of the year...

Will Lexington...

Brandy Clark...

- Kip Moore...
- Congratulations. Thank you.

Sadie Stone...

Whoo! Aaah! And Cole Swindell.

Nominees for female vocalist of the year...

Miranda Lambert...

Taylor Swift...

Rayna Jaymes...

- Yeah! Way to go, Rayna!
- Carrie Underwood.

CMA nominees for male
vocalist of the year...

Luke Wheeler...

Eric Church...

Musical event of the year...

"Ball and Chain"

by Rayna Jaymes and Luke Wheeler...

"This time" by Rayna James...

"It's on Tonight," Luke Wheeler...

Album of the year...

"The Parts I Remember" by Rayna James...

"Moon or Shine" by Luke Wheeler...

And the nominees for
entertainer of the year...

Luke Wheeler...

Miranda Lambert...

Rayna James...

Oh, my God.

Luke Bryan, Keith Urban.

That is amazing.

Aw. There's Luke.

- Aw.
- Yay.

Hey, babe!

Hey.

Just called to congratulate
my incredibly talented fiancée

on her multiple nominations.

Right back at ya.

Oh, my gosh. I can't believe
it. It's just amazing.

Tell me about it. I got
five noms, you got six.

It's gonna be huge for your label.

I know. I'm just... I'm just thrilled.

Listen, you know I'd much rather
be there celebrating with you,

But I got a crew of
people all riled up here.

I know. I can hear them.

Well, we'll get our chance to celebrate.

Yeah. Have fun.

All right. Love you.

I love you. Bye.

So, Amy, I know you're a huge
country-music fan, like I am.

What do you think of the nominations?

Well, with Rayna Jaymes and Luke Wheeler

getting nods in all the major categories,

I think it's safe to assume that Ruke-mania

has officially spread
from fans to the voters.

And you got to believe that getting minted

"country music's superstar couple"

had a lot to do with their huge success.

Well, they do seem to be in the spotlight

- What?
- Quite a bit these days.

Any surprises for you?

You know, Robin, I'd say the
biggest surprise was the fact

that Juliette Barnes didn't
receive a single nomination

for her "Inside the Dream" album...

Just the one nomination
for song of the year,

which was a co-write with Avery Barkley.

Word is that after the concert
last night in Cincinnati,

she was rushed to the hospital.

Sources say it could be
exhaustion, but you never know.

Either way, not a good day for Juliette.

That was the craziest feeling last night.

I was trying so hard to
breathe, and I just couldn't.

I actually felt myself
slipping away for a second.

But you know what?

I'm still here, and the baby's all right,

and I don't know what
they're talking about,

but I'd say that's a
pretty good day for me.

Hey.

So, you're all right?

Yeah.

And the, uh, baby's all right?

Yeah.

Well, I could use some coffee.

How'd you find out?

Zoey called me.

Drove all night to get here.

Did you see we were nominated for a CMA?

That really what you want to talk about?

No. What... what do you want to talk about?

How 'bout the fact that you told
me you're pregnant in a text?

I wanted to tell you outside of that jail,

but you were so upset with...

I think I had a right to be angry.

Yes, but look, I don't want
to keep arguing about the past.

Oh, no wonder you didn't
bother telling me in person.

You've moved on.

It's not... It's...
It's not even like that.

Why are you even talking?

Look, I... I... I shouldn't have come.

Clearly, you're covered.

Avery. Avery, he's a friend!

I'm sorry.

It's not your fault.

Hey.

You got a minute?

Yeah.

Uh, congratulations on the CMA nomination.

Best song... that's...
That's not too shabby.

What?

Oh. Yeah. Thanks.

I wasn't watching. I got
a bunch of texts about it.

How could you not be watching?

I have a son.

He's 9

his mom was my first girlfriend.

She showed up at that barn
party a couple weeks ago.

Wow. That's... That's great, isn't it?

They're leaving town.

Thinks it's better for the kid if I just...

I just forget about him.

But what about... what about
what's better for me, huh?

Oh.

Have you talked to Zoey about it yet?

She's out on tour, and...

You know me.

You've seen where I came
from. You even knew Jason.

I can't lose any more family,

even if it's family I just found out I had.

Well, then don't.

How? I mean, they're leaving.

And she doesn't want him
to know I'm his father.

Take advantage of the time
you've still got with him.

Start by being his friend.

Hey!

- How about that?
- You the table!

Congratulations!

Thanks. Wow!

Congratulations to you, too, Sadie.

Thank you so much. Fantastic.

- Thank you.
- Wow.

Great day for Highway 65.

Yes, it is. Yeah.

Hey, did you see what they said on "GMA"

after the announcements...
About how Luke and I

got more nominations
because of our engagement?

Yeah, but that's just one comment.

I mean, you can't worry about that.

It's not. This one's been
on Twitter all morning.

I just wanted to go on
there and thank the fans,

and then I couldn't look away,
'cause it's... it's not good.

This whole thing with Luke has
opened up a whole new world,

and, you know, you did
decide to expose yourself

more to the media than
you ever have before.

But you know what? I worked
so hard on this album.

I mean, I put everything into this,

creatively and financially.

You know, and this feels
like it takes away from that.

And that's not fair. I earned this.

And I think it could really
damage my credibility.

Jeffi just wanted to thank
you for the party last night.

That was a lot of fun.
It was good to get out.

I'm glad you had a good time.

And I, uh, I enjoyed meeting Natasha.

I think she liked you, too.

Hey, why don't you come on over to my place

for dinner tonight?

I'll call Brianna, Natasha,

- and we'll make a night out of it.
- Ready, daddy?

Uh... you know, I... I... maybe.

Uhl-let me get back to you on that, okay?

Bye.

Hey, listen, Maddie, I need you
to watch your sister tonight.

I've got some last-minute plans.

I can't, dad. Actually, I'm
hanging out with Colt tonight.

We're going to the diner down the street.

That's fine. Just take
your sister with you.

Are you serious, dad? She'll ruin it.

I'm standing right here.

It's just for a few hours.

Oh, my gosh.

Why are your plans always
more important than mine?

Look, honey, if you want
to be treated like an adult,

you need to take on some adult
responsibilities sometimes.

Fine. Whatever.

Thank you.

Just to the diner and back, okay?

Okay.

Don't embarrass me.

Can't make any promises.

Hi, Terry.

Scarlett. You back so soon?

I had to come thank you
for helping me with my song.

I was so stuck, and
you fixed it up perfect.

So I'd really like

to do something special for you in return.

How about a hot meal?

I'll... I'll wash your clothes for you.

Well, I told you, I don't take no charity.

But if you got a job for me,

I'll accept whatever payment you see fit.

You know what?

My uncle's gutters could
use a real good cleaning.

How about that?

Feel like I've been hearing
bits and pieces of that

for weeks now.

Yeah, well, I started writing it

right around the time I met you.

Mm. Thought it sounded inspired.

Actually, I think I got me a chorus.

Thinking about bringing it to the guys

and, uh, debuting it tonight during my set.

- That's a great idea.
- Yeah?

Mind if I ask what sparked it?

Just something that come to me

right after you left this morning.

You can thank me later.

Hey.

That hurt?

Yes.

Well, maybe we should let
the doc take a look at it.

No.

How much you had to drink?

None of your business.

You know...

Kind of how whatever
or whomever you're doing

is none of my business.

I know this has been tough,

but it's our last day of shooting.

You think we can get
through it without any drama?

Doesn't drama make for good TV?

- I cannot believe you're still here.
- Why wouldn't I be?

Well, I can think of a few reasons why.

Got your test results.

Is this the father?

No, but it's fine.

Juliette, you have factor
V Leiden gene mutation,

which is an increased tendency
to form abnormal blood clots.

It's something you were born with

but often only reveals
itself in pregnancies.

Okay, so... What does that mean for me,

in terms that I understand?

- You have to stop touring immediately.
- What? Why?

At this stage in your pregnancy,

any travel puts you at
high risk of another clot,

which, frankly, is too dangerous.

Okay, so that's it?

I... I have to stay here? I can't leave?

No, you're free to return
to Nashville, but that's it.

You can resume normal activities...

Even finish your film.

But keep your hours short,
and you're gonna be fine.

You knew you were gonna have
to stop touring at some point.

Yeah, but I thought I
had more time than this.

I get it. It's a big change.

But you don't have to
go through this alone.

I'm just saying... We
could see where this goes.

You're a great guy.

You really are.

And I know Avery's a mess right now, but...

He showed up.

And I need to figure out what that means.

You still on cloud nine?

Have you seen all the stuff
that people are writing about us,

that we got nominated
'cause of our relationship?

Darling, you cannot pay
attention to that stuff.

For one, it's not true,
and, two, it's not us.

I know, but it still sucks

for people to say that we don't deserve it.

Well, I know one way to prove them wrong.

Just, you know, win.

That is not in our control.

Well, I don't know about that.

Why do you think I am
flying in Sara Evans tonight

to sing with me?

I didn't know you were flying in Sara Evans

to sing with you tonight.

Listen, these days,
you want those trophies,

you got to campaign.

Uh-huh. I see you are wasting no time.

Well, you know me.

You should think about doing the same.

Listen, I got to go, okay? I love you.

I love you, too.

Hey. Um, they're ready for you.

What do you think about
campaigning for this?

For the CMA's?

That's not something
you've ever done before.

I know, but it would be sort of nice

to just fly in the face of these critics.

And it would set up Highway 65 for good.

Yeah.

Hey, y'all!

You really shouldn't be here.

I want to see Micah before you leave.

No.

Look, he doesn't have to know I'm his dad,

Come on.

I don't know what's
going through your mind.

My knight in shining armor.

Get off.

What the hell is wrong with you?

What the hell are you doing?!

That! That's what's wrong with me!

That's why I'm like this!

'Cause I know...

That even touching me
makes your stomach turn.

I'm... I'm so sorry.

Just go!

I know you don't believe this, but...

I really do care about you.

Well, that makes one of us.

- Thank you.

- Good night.

Night.

Mmm.

Oh! What a night!

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

Enjoyed myself? This Natasha...
I mean, she's something else.

I mean, she's smart, funny, sexy as hell.

I mean, she is the full package.

Well, you get what you pay for.

Yeah, right.

All right, please... Please
tell me you're kidding.

They're prostitutes?

Well, I think they prefer
the term "escorts," but yes.

Okay, I know what an escort is, Jeff.

How could you do that to me?

Hey, two days ago, you told me

you didn't know what fun was anymore.

Today, you just played Marco polo

with a beautiful woman... Naked.

I realize that, but I'm
the mayor, for God's sake.

Exactly. And you just had an
incredible night, no strings attached.

I just wanted to call you personally.

for me to do the show by myself,

tell you I love the show,

my girls love the show,

All right, well, sounds like we got a deal.

Thanks, Ken. Bye.

Please tell me you have a bonus single

that you haven't told me about.

Nope.

But we got two months to find one.

Hey.

Maddie did what?

I can't believe that you called the police.

Maddie, people were breaking things.

I couldn't find you.

Thank you for letting
me handle this myself.

Why didn't you answer me? I was so scared.

I trusted you.

- That's real sweet of y'all to say.
- Excuse me, ladies.

I just got a call from Rayna.

Apparently, your daughter and my son

decided to throw a party at her house.

Maddie threw a party?
That doesn't sound right.

Well, it happened. The
cops came and everything.

I just thought you should know.

I'm flying back now to deal with colt.

Well, if you're going
back, I'm going with you.

Yeah, I don't think so.

You look pretty comfortable right here.

Hey. Come on, now.

This is my daughter we're talking about.

Hey.

Didn't know you both were coming.

Hey, by the way,

I sent colt with the police
back to his mother's house.

Oh. Okay, thanks.

Yeah.

Where's Maddie?

She's in her room.

Where's Rayna?

Upstairs with Daphne. She was pretty upset.

How'd they even get over here?

They met colt at the diner,
and he drove them here.

And where were you during all this?

I had a last-minute appointment.

But why is that your business, anyway?

Because you're the parent in town.
You're supposed to be on call.

Yeah, well, easy for you
to say, not being here.

What, do you think that's my choice?

I'd be right here if he wasn't
forcing me to be on tour.

Whoa. You don't say a word to
me for two hours on my plane.

Now you're taking shots.

- Is it true or is it not true?
- God.

Hey.

Um, hey, Teddy, can I talk
to you for a sec, please?

Yeah.

Look, I don't know what to tell you, Ray.

I made a deal with Maddie,
and she didn't stick to it.

I know. I know.

And I... I've been trying
to make all of this work,

but the fact is that you never talked to me

before you decided to add
more dates to your tour,

and you never considered the extra
pressures that puts on me here at home.

I'm not blaming you, okay?

You know, I just hate the
situation that we're in right now.

And I thought about this
all the way over here.

I don't want to just quit the tour.

I believe in the way we raised our girls.

I don't want to send the message
to them that we don't trust them.

And also, frankly, I don't
want to send a message to them

and to any other girl out there

that in order to be a mother,
you have to just drop everything.

No, okay, I agree. I mean, look.

Let's let's just put
this in perspective, okay?

I mean, yeah, she disobeyed
me. She made a very poor choice.

But she didn't rob a bank.

Still, this wouldn't have happened
if she had more supervision,

and that's not on you.

So, I mean, what do you have in mind?

Dad?

Hey.

I really messed up bad.

Yeah, you did.

I don't know what you were thinking.

I guess I wasn't.

I miss you.

I miss you, too, sweetie.

That can't be a reason to act
out like this, though, you know.

It's dangerous. You
know, it makes us worry.

Yeah.

Can we see you upstairs, please?

Yeah.

Nice of you to come.

You know, we talked
about all the sacrifices

we were all gonna have to make
with me being out on the road,

and a big part of that was
you taking responsibility,

and you didn't do that,

and because of that, damage
was done to this house.

I'm sorry. I'll make
it up to you. I promise.

And listen to me.

I know that this probably wouldn't
have happened if I'd have been here,

and that breaks my heart,

'cause now we're gonna have to
rebuild the trust between us,

and that's gonna be hard
to do with me out of town.

But I know you can do it.

Yeah.

And your father and I were
talking about something

that I think might actually help with that,

which is that we're gonna get a nanny.

Okay.

Now, look, one more thing.

The most important responsibility

you have right now is being a big sister,

so don't put Daphne in a
situation like this again.

You understand?

Yeah.

All right.

Hey.

I don't want to be angry anymore.

It was making me a disaster.

And I can't keep punishing you...

Not if we're gonna raise our baby together.

Wouldn't be fair for our child.

So I've decided to forgive you.

Wait.

I forgive you, but I still don't trust you,

and I can't be in a relationship

with someone that I don't trust.

Okay, so, what are you...
What are you saying?

What does that mean?

You gave me two options,

and I'm not picking either one of them.

Whether or not I get to
be this baby's father...

Is not your choice.

Hey, did your people talk
to you about this opportunity

for us to do "Dancing With the Stars"?

I haven't heard anything about it,

but, you know, if you
want to do it, I'm game.

Well... I think I'm
gonna be doing it myself.

You push me out?

Kind of.

I didn't realize when I was
talking about campaigning

that you'd start competing against me.

Oh, babe, I'm not competing against you.

You know, I just think these awards

are really a great
opportunity for both of us,

and I think it's
important for us to do this

without being linked to each
other the way we have been.

Even though we're getting married.

I think especially 'cause
we're getting married.

I mean, all this "Luke and Rayna" stuff...

I... I think it really takes
away from the accomplishments

that we have made as individuals.

All right.

So, how about this?

You do your thing, I do mine.

No matter what happens, win or lose,

we got each other's backs.

Absolutely.

I am gonna win those awards, though.

Bring it on.

This is Natasha.

Hey, it's, um... It's Teddy...

From... from last night.

What can I do for you?

Okay, we got to hit the road.

Go get your backpack.
We've got a long drive.

I'll be out front.

Thanks for not saying anything.

Wait.

You said it would be better for Micah

'cause you have a chance
with this new guy, right?

- It is.
- You don't know that.

It could just be another
city with another guy

who's not gonna give him what he needs.

You spent one night with him, and
you think you know what he needs?

He needs stability. That's what he needs.

Can we just try?

Please?

Stay for a while.

He's all the family I have left.

Okay.

Thank you.

Babe, I'm home.

What's going on?

All right, I'm gonna
keep this short and sweet.

I'm pregnant.

I'll be finishing out the movie,

but unfortunately, due to health cons,

I'll have to cancel the
remainder of my tour.

Thank y'all so much for coming.

Juliette! Who's the father?

The father is Avery Barkley.

And that's all I'm gonna say.

Thank you.
