Naked and Afraid (2013–…): Season 15, Episode 9 - Legends and Rookies - full transcript

You know, I always say that
I'm done, I've proven myself,

I've done all the
challenges I need to do.

Twenty one days in honduras

40 days in the philippines
and 60 days in louisiana,

But I honestly just
couldn't resist africa.

You know, we're not even close
to being the apex predator here.

There's animals everywhere.

If you look right there,
we have a giraffe.

Oh, wow.

I thought I had done
my last challenge,

But you know, never say never.

You know, I've been able
to do a 14-day fan challenge

You know, a 21-day
tribes challenge,

A 60-day freaking
legends challenge...

and then, come
back and do a solo.

At this point, I feel like I've done
everything I could possibly do

On naked and afraid except for
be a mentor or a leader to a rookie.

Knowing that I'm gonna
be paired with a legend,

I just have to push myself so
much harder to be a great partner

And really just step up my game.

This is crazy.

I think that they're obvious gonna
have a lot of experience and know how

In a situation like this that
I'm gonna be able to learn from.

Each pair of
one legend and one rookie

Will have to survive in two
separate camps for the first 10 days.

If they make it to day
11, they will merge

And attempt to complete
the challenge as a single tribe.

To me, it's okay if they don't
have as many survival skills

Because I have them and
I can share that with them.

This opportunity to help
them get to the finish line

And realize their
dreams is pretty epic.

Can the legends teach their
rookies to survi 21 days in south africa?

Or will the student
become the master?

It's so hot and nast I wanna go.

Right now, it's exciting.

I think once I'm actually
naked, it'll be scary.

I think this is gonna be one
of the most challenging things

I've done in my life.

I think it'll be hard
every step of the way.

But I think it'll be rewarding.

Boy, it's game time.

I'm michaelyn, I'm from
new castle, pennsylvania

And I'm a small business
own of a construction company.

I guess this is it.

Starting to make it happen
again, caught with my pants down.

My name is noah. I'm from bozeman,
montana and I am an outdoorsman.

Here we go.

Getting naked in the
middle of nowhere. It's.

It never gets easier.

All right, ain't nothing
to it, but to do it.

Hello.

Hey.

- It's nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you too.

Hi, I'm rylie.

- I'm noah. Good to meet you.
- Nice.

- It's exciting to find you out here.
- Yeah.

We're gonna
rock it. We're in it.

You were actually
my top female choice

- For a legend to be paired with.
- What? Oh, my gosh.

- That's awesome.
- You know, you made it to the end

Of the 60-day challenge.

- You're a great hunter, you've got a great attitude.
- Thank you.

- Where are you from?
- I am from bozeman, montana

And I'm a house painter.

And I've been a
competitive snowboarder.

I am a mountain man.

I've spent my whole life
in the rocky mountains.

I think my strengths
in a survival setting

Are fishing, shelter
buildin and my willpower.

I can suffer with the best
of them through anything.

So I'm comfortable in the
co and in gnarly weather.

Noah's a quick
learner and team player,

But he lacks experience
in a desert environment.

He begins with a primitive
survival rating of 5.7.

I know it's gonna get rough sometimes
but I think if you keep a good vibe,

And your little laugh and have
fun together, then we're gonna do it.

- Perfect.
- We're gonna crush it.

Based on her
previous accomplishments,

Rylie begins
with a psr of 9.1.

Being paired
with a legend out here

Is such an amazing opportuni

And such a huge asset
to have as a team member.

I'm hoping for a male partne

Normally, I work better with
guys when it comes to teamwork.

I think I see somebody.

- He-yo.
- Hi, partner.

- How's it going?
- Good, how are you?

Good.

- It's like a crazy blind date, right?
- Yeah.

Max.

- Michaelyn.
- Nice to meet you.

- Nice to meet you too.
- Bring it in, bring it in.

Yeah.

I might not be the legend you
wanted, but the legend you got.

Oh, I'm so excited.

- This is gonna be awesome. Cool.
- Yeah. Absolutely.

So where are you from?

- Pennsylvania, yep.
- Pennsylvania, nice.

I grew up in a
military family and on a farm,

So I was always around guns and in
the last couple of years with my fiance,

We've really got
into archery hunting.

And that's a big
passion of mine.

I'm doing this challenge
because in 2019,

My dad underwent a
double lung transplant.

And through the whole journe
he never complained once

And just seeing what he was
able to push his body throug

Motivates me to come out here
and just take on this challenge

And see what I'm made of.

Michaelyn
is a fearless optimist,

But has never braved
the african bush.

She starts with a psr of 5.9

the buildup to knowing
that I was partnered with a legend,

But not knowing who it was, it's a
huge relief just to finally meet max.

Excited to have
him as a partner.

He's never tapped out.

That's just awesome. I know his
mindset is gonna be in the game.

And I wanna
meet you where you're at,

- So we can cross this together.
- That would be awesome.

Yeah, for sure. We
got 21 days to just kill it.

So, I'm just excited because you've
been through this whole journey

- At every stage of it.
- I've been a rookie before.

- Yeah, so I know what it's like.
- Yeah.

Based on
his previous experience,

Max starts with a primitive
survival rating of 9.5.

- So let's, uh, check out what we got here.
- Sure.

Let's check it out.

Each team has
been given a pot to sterilize water

And a fire starter because fire
is essential to ward off predators.

Each teammate also brought
a personal survival item.

I brought my knife.

Awesome.

Trusty knife, can't go wrong.

So I brought my bow.

I do the solo challenge
here in south africa actually.

So and I took down
two impalas with it.

So hopefully we can
get something like that.

That's impressive. Put
some dinner on the table.

Put some dinner on the table.

All right, so I've
got a primitive fishing kit.

That means we're
gonna eat for sure.

- Yes.
- Absolutely, we got lots of stuff to work with here.

- What did you bring?
- I brought my knife with me.

- Nice. Okay.
- So...

- Also brought with me, my glasses.
- Nice.

- Yeah, if you can't see...
- I won't be useless at night time.

Actually have...

- oh, the map.
- The map.

So, looking at where we are, I
think the best thing we wanna do

Is maybe head
towards this water.

And then we have
our merge point,

- There's some other legends out here. Yeah.
- Oh, wow.

- So we definitely wanna be going more over here.
- Yeah, okay.

- That way.
- Yeah.

And then, so it looks like
we have water right here.

- That's where we wanna head.
- So we probably wanna head there.

- Let's get going.
- All right.

Cool.

Both pairs have
been left to survive in nama karoo,

A vast south african desert.

Home to the world's
most dangerous predators.

The land's pure beauty
can be deceiving.

Blinding rains and wind
appear out of nowhere.

And with 90 degree
days, and 40s at night,

The temperature
swings are as unforgiving

As the sharp and
scorching terrain.

A bit rough and hot.

Both pairs will be trekking

More than three miles
to their water source.

They'll be watching out for 300 pound
warthogs with flesh piercing tusks.

Mozambique spitting cobras, one
of southern africa's deadliest snakes.

Whose venom can
blind you in an instant.

And leopards, the
strongest of the big cats.

These merciless predators have
a top speed of 36 miles per hour,

Leap 20 feet...

And swiftly kill
prey with one powerful bite.

So, uh, what
skills do you bring in?

- Well, I'm a hunter.
- Yeah?

- And I grew up trapping.
- Nice.

- Yeah, boat and shelter making...
- Yeah.

- When we were young playing in the woods.
- Nice. Yeah. For sure.

- I think that's kind of how we all started, right?
- Yeah.

Stoked to have
michaelyn on my squad.

She is in the right headspac
to do well in this challenge

I've had some pretty bad
luc with partners in the past.

I'm ready to tap.

Are you serious?

Dude, you're not my boss,
so stop acting like it, all right?

Well, then start working.

Get me out!

I'm not trying to jinx myself,

But hopefully have
cured the partner curse.

We'll see what happens, but
I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Looks like there might
be a tiny, little game trail here.

- If you wanna scoot.
- Oh, yeah.

Good eyes.

They've, uh, they've
beaten it down for us.

That's why you're the legend.

They like the
path of least resistance,

We like the path
of least resistance.

Yeah, follow the locals, huh?

- Feet are burning.
- Yeah, it's hot.

All right, I got something
in my foot. It's killing me.

Everything's trying
to stab you out here.

This is one of the toughest
locations I've been to

And it feels like you're
walking on a hot roof

In the middle of
summer. It hurts.

Ooh. There's a
tiny, sharp plant right there.

Oh. Again.

Now you see why
everything around here has hooves.

Yeah.

This might be maybe my
worst insertion hik that I've ever done.

I've been on the islands,
I've been in the jungles,

I've gone through the
swamp in north america.

Africa's totally different.

You're stepping on sharp shale and
slate, that's jabbing you in the feet.

If you're not stepping on it,
then you're stepping into thorns.

I mean, literally, every
step is incredibly painful.

Oh, it's a freakin' kudu head.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, wow.

- Dope, right?
- That's awesome.

- Sick.
- Yeah.

- We gotta decorate our place with it.
- Keeping that.

Yep.

Oh, damn.

Dope.

Look at that.

Whoo.

Oh, that's beautiful.

It's an oasis.

- Wow.
- Heck yeah.

After you see the water, you know you're
pretty much close to your survival area

It's such a relief 'cause we
were trekking for three plus hours,

Almost like three or
four miles, it's tough.

It's a sigh of relief
that we collectively feel

In order for us to, you
know, keep pushing forward.

Wonder how the
other crew's doing.

Well, we're doing pretty
good, so I hope they're doing just as well.

Just completely numb right now.

- Goodness.
- You can take as long as you need.

Yeah.

- Like, this whole side of my foot is numb.
- Oh, really?

Like, I can move
it, but I can't feel it.

I just don't know what's
going on with my foot.

The fact that my foot is
completely numb is kind of scary.

- Is it getting worse?
- Yeah.

It's not what you want
on the insertion walk.

No.

As a legend, I know the stakes

And I know how serious it is
to be really, really struggling

Just on the walk itself.

This looks
kind of nice right here.

Yeah, this looks promising.

I can see us living here.

We just need to fill
on up all these walls.

Make this, like, our front door.

It's far enough from the water,

So animals can
still move in and out.

- What are you thinking?
- I like it.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

Hell yeah. We just gotta find thorns,
so we can pack in all these walls here.

There's predators everywhere

You have to set up in order
to prevent these animals

From flowing into your space

So, thorns are absolutely critical
in order to discourage any predators

And maybe grabbing one of us
by the leg or freakin' devouring us.

Just gonna toss
this guy in there.

Max has been a great mentor.

He's done this
challenge so many times.

He knows it inside and out.

And just he's been
a great partner.

I couldn't ask for
anybody better.

Let me know if
I'm mansplaining too.

- Tell me to shut up.
- No, you're fine

Rylie, I'm seeing some water.

- Yeah, just a little bit.
- Look at that. There we go.

It feels nice.

- We did it.
- We did it.

It was a long, long, long walk.

- It sure was.
- We gotta figure out where we wanna set up camp.

So we just finished our insertion
hike and it was absolutely brutal.

I mean, my left foot
is completely numb.

Don't know why, but it is,
I have basically a flat tire.

How are your feet feeling?

This foot is still numb.

So I'm a little worried.

Like, it doesn't seem
very normal, so...

Rylie's foot isn't getting
better. In fact, it's getting worse.

Obviously, getting nervous,
getting worried for her safety,

But also having a
partner for the challenge.

I definitely don't wanna
be out here alone.

Something's going on with it.

I wonder if you, like,
pinched a nerve or something.

Ah, don't say that.

Could you get the medic?

I just can't imagine
having to tap on day one.

I would be
absolutely devastated.

I wonder if you, like,
pinched a nerve or something.

Ah, don't say that.

Could you get the medic?

It just feels real numb.

There's no
discoloration, inflammation.

Almost like my foot is
asleep. Permanently.

Yeah, it's probably
taking a toll on the walk.

- I don't think it's serious.
- You think it'll just go away?

It should, after
a couple of nights' rest.

- Keep your foot up.
- Keep it up?

Okay, well, we don't
have too much time.

My left foot is completely numb,

But there's no
time to slow down.

There's no time to sit and nurse
our wounds because it's getting dark,

It's incredibly
dangerous he at night.

We have to get our boma buil and,
you know, we're going in a hurry.

What do you think about
just piling crap all around this?

Around this spot here.

I mean, it's... Sun's getting down
there, we gotta do something.

We got our boma locked
in. We gotta get a fire going.

Come on. There you go, yeah,
throw it down, throw it down.

- It worked. Dope.
- Awesome.

- We have fire.
- Yeah.

Fire!

Now that we got the fire going,

We gotta put a pot on the
fire in order to get some water.

You know, we're gonna get it
boiling and then, throw in the water,

Cool it down as fast as
possible, so we can hydrate up

And then, continue
pushing forward.

It's still pretty hot.

Definitely the hardest
I've ever had to work

Just to get a drink of water

- So good. Mmm.
- Ah.

That whole hike in here, I'm just...
That's all I was thinking about.

Bring us back to life.

I think curl it this way, huh?

Yeah.

We can't be sitting
ducks. We are prey here.

There are large predators.

The question is not like, will we
get a moment tonight. We have to.

I'm going to blow
on it a little bit.

By the time we got even
remotely close to here,

It was my entire foot. And it's
shooting up pins and needles up my leg.

Is it any better if
you're not stepping on it?

The pins and needles
are not doing it unless I step.

- Okay.
- But yes, my foot is still completely numb.

Once we get that first meal, then
it's like yeah, baby.

And I know as long as I
can just get to that finish line.

It's the unknown, right?

- Well, I'm not leaving. I'm here.
- Okay, cool.

- For 21 days, I'm here.
- For 21 days.

How are your feet
feeling after yesterday?

Pretty I mean, except
the left one which is just a flat tire.

My foot today is still numb

But I'm not trying
to let it bother me

And I just have to be
carefu where I'm stepping

Because there's lots of thorns.

Look, there's a... There's
a fish sitting under there...

Underneath that
floating pile of algae

Just lying in there. Yeah.

I'll be here. It's gonna try to
turn around, but I think I could hit it.

We could catch this catfish
without fishing line at all.

- You tell me when you're ready.
- I'm good.

Got him.

- Nice.
- Yeah.

Hell yeah.

And it's like, cold from
a refrigerator almost.

Yes. Rylie is absolutely proving
her legend status out here.

Get it with a machete.
Who would have thought?

Gonna cruise for a little bit
and just kind of do a recon.

- I would check for like, maybe clams and crabs.
- Okay.

Hopefully, one of us comes back
with lunch. -mmm-hmm.

- Good luck. Yep.
- Thank you.

First day, kind of just checking
out how things are moving around.

When I came in through the
valley here along the water source,

There's tracks everywhere.

So this looks like a
really good vantage point.

I just need to get up
there and get a good view.

I see a warthog.

I should have just
waited a little bit longer.

I was like, that
far from a vital shot

- Just right over his head.
- Took off.

- It's been low and slow over here, so.
- Cool.

I just want to make sure
it's cooked thoroughly.

Really the best way for
us to get all the nutrients

And everything that
this fish has to offer

While also hydrating is to
boil the fish in a sort of stew.

I guess be mindful that there's
a lot of bones still in here.

Drink it up.

Cheers.

Our first wild meal.

Day two, huh?

That's pretty cool.

It's a little gnarly. Just got
to get past the chunkiness.

I got a shot off on a...
A big old sow. I was so close.

If I would have waited like, two more
seconds. Have you seen any movement?

- I've got nothing at all.
- No?

Yeah.

Warthog.

Got him. He's
bleeding out. Got him.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

He's bleeding a lot right here.

I'm just gonna follow this
blood trail all the way up.

You know, I can't go
face-first into this thing.

These things have
razor sharp tusks.

They will cut you in
half, slice open your face.

Face down in that hole,
you're good as done.

Since max is gone today,

I just want to do everythin I
can do to be a good partner here.

I'm gonna build a
smoker and manifest

That he comes home with
uh, dinner for us tonight.

I found three trees and they
are going to form a tripod.

I'm going to use the
branche already on them

To layer thin pieces
of meat to make jerky.

It's been almost three hours.

I haven't heard
anything for a while.

I'm going to sus it out.

Oh, my god.

She's beautiful.

This is one of those
super human moments

Where you just throw
150 pounds on your back

And trek legit a mile
to go feed your family.

This thing's
like 150 plus pounds.

- Congratulations. Whoo! That's awesome.
- Whoo!

Oh, my gosh.

- We'll have bacon tonight. Bring it in.
- Let's go.

Nasty hog.

Day three. This
is what legends do.

Me being able to provide
for my partner, for my rooki

Is one of those experiences
that will stay with me forever.

So we'll
get this all processed up,

The rest of the meat smoked and we'll
be good to go for a couple of days now.

So right now I'm
setting up the rest of the smoker

That michaelyn already set u

Like, what the... That's insane.

Like, get a kill, come back and
like, a process is already started.

You know, she's
acting like a vet.

She's not acting
like a fan or a rookie.

- Have you ever skinned a hog?
- We used to raise pigs.

We would butcher
them, but I was young.

- But you still know what's up.
- Yeah.

Let's go.

- I got two legs.
- Neat!

- I got the...
- love it.

Brought home the freakin' bacon

And uh. We're gonna
have a feast tonight.

Looks like I got
heart. I got heart.

Are you kidding me?

I mean, you just grabbed it.

- Dinner.
- Yes.

- Yes, alright.
- Good work. man.

I think rylie definitely
offers a lot of experience

And important
information out here.

I think it would be very
difficult to do it on my own.

I don't know if I could.

Yeah, at this point, you've
been doing this for a while.

It's... I always say like,
always be a student,

Sometimes a teacher,
but never an expert.

'cause I think the second
you start saying that

You're an expert at everything,
you really stop getting better.

- That's a great way to look at it.
- Yep.

It's windy. There
might be weather coming in.

There. Look, a storm.

It's pouring down rain.

We're trying to...
Trying to save our meat.

Some stuff fell
on the fire earlier

And um, these
challenges are never easy.

You know, when you roll
up and you get a big kill,

You think that you're
just gonna be coasting.

This challenge always
finds a way to tell you

To sit your ass
down and be humble.

Guess the gods are not happy.

We did not build for this.

What do we do?

Keep the fire going.

The fire's popping
right now. But

we are trying
to keep the fire going,

Protect the meat,
keep ourselves dry.

The temperature dropped,
so we're shivering cold already.

But we have a pretty strong fire

And a lot of firewood
that we had built up,

So I'm not worried
about it going out.

Noah and I are in the
tiniest part of the end of our boma

Because it is raining
and it is storming.

And we do not want
to be soaking wet.

All we can do is wait it out.

The storm is passing.

'cause we're
gonna be so full in a food coma.

It smells like bacon.

It's amazing.

- It's gonna be my first bite of heart ever.
- Ever.

- And you hunt, right? Yeah.
- I'm a hunter.

I just could never do it before.

- Now you got the heart. It's so good.
- I have to do it. I have to.

- Ready?
- Yeah.

- Mmm, it's excellent.
- Right?

Storm and everything, we still
got to enjoy nice, fat chunk of meat.

And we shared
the heart together.

I'm just so thankful for this.

Beyond thankful.

I'm going to get full tonight.

Let me just kind of...

ow, ow, ow.

I just stepped on a coal.

I think it's gonna blister.

I thought I like, stepped over,

But I don't know
like, what happened.

- I'm sorry, rylie.
- Yeah, that's not... It's not your fault.

It's nobody's fault.

God, man.

I'm just like,
really like, worried

'cause I can feel it like...

I don't know if... I definitely
can't walk with this right now.

- Hey.
- Hey.

I stepped on it and
it like, got stuck in my foot.

It feels like it's
still burning.

How do I keep
this clean without shoes?

This environment is really treacherous,
even on the healthiest of feet.

And I've just been having
some issues with my left one.

It seemingly was getting better.

So to have my
right foot get burnt,

It is just really demoralizing.

- Thank you.
- Sure.

I am worried about
rylie. She's in a lot of pain.

I need to help however I can.

I need to do a lot of
work so she can rest up

And get as healthy as possible.

With that
rain coming down last night

And just everything
getting soaked,

Um, it was a muddy mess in here.

I think we would
have lost a lot of meat

Had we not already
had it up on the smoker

And then the rest of it
was up on rocks drying out.

I'm forcing her to eat now.

Forcing you to eat
on naked and afraid.

We did all the crucial steps
in order to manage our meat.

It's all getting on the
smoker, it's in the pot

Or it's in our bellies. You know,
we were able to barbeque it.

Tastes like barbeque pork
from a chinese restaurant.

I already feel
useless right now.

I'm supposed to be the mentor and
like, noah's doing everything, you know.

The last thing I need is
people thinking I just sit around.

This is just like, my nightmare.

I think what I'm gonna
do is make a spear for fishing.

- Okay.
- Um...

I wish I could get firewood. That's
what I would be doing right now.

No, that's
okay. You got to rest.

The fish are the onl consistent
sources of food that we've seen.

So it won't hurt to diversif
our methods of catching them

Especially if rylie feels she can't
move around efficiently anymore.

The spear has kind
of a pronged tip to it.

Because when you're
catching fish or snakes,

You want to kind
of spread out the tips

So you have more area to cover.

So it's kind of like a claw
instead of a single point.

It's a little easier that way.

Did you try using
like, a reverse pinch grip?

Reverse pinch grip.

You're gonna be just
using that triangle point.

If you want to try it that way, I'll
show you. It'll probably help you.

As long as I'm here, I'm
still gonna be helpful to noah.

I'm gonna do anything I can do,

But I have to feel like,
I'm able to still do 110%

Or this challenge isn't
a challenge for me.

It's just sitting and
being waited on.

And that's not part
of being a legend.

This is taking off all that fine
stuff, so you can get it real sharp.

Fishing is fickle.

But just gotta keep
looking forward.

Noah is doing all of the
regular work that we both do.

And I'm not.

And it feels wrong.
And it feels unfair.

How was fishing?

Um, I didn't catch anything.

It's alright.

- Is your foot feeling any better?
- It really hurts.

I'll just see how
it feels tomorrow.

Like, if it still
blisters and throbbing

Like, I won't be
able to do stuff.

I'm just gonna take the nigh
and then make a decision,

Even though it might
be a hard decision.

I'm gonna decide tomorrow. I'm
not gonna sit around for another day.

You know how I feel.
I know how you feel.

- We'll just see, huh?
- We'll see.

You know, I've always said
that if I was ever in a challenge

And I didn't feel like I was able to
pull my weight, then I would leave.

I've been injured in challenges
before worse than this.

That one is a stinger.

But I was never immobile.

It's not fair to sit around
and not contribute.

Well, you know you're definitely
not useless out here at all.

But you know, like, it's not
the challenge that I want to do.

While yes, I could probably
nurse this wound and get through it,

I've decided to leave today.

Okay.

- Well, I'll miss you.
- I'll miss you too.

Part of me is saying I should stay
and stick it out just to help noah.

But I also know that noah has what
it takes to stay a couple more days

And then, go find
the other team.

He'll be in a better
position to do that

If he doesn't have to
kind of do extra work

Because I'm
unable to get around.

- Hey, rylie.
- Hey.

Are you
positive you want to tap?

Yeah, I think it's better
for me to get well at home.

Okay. Let's
get you out of here.

Noah.

- You got this, buddy.
- Thanks for everything.

- You got it.
- Appreciate it.

-Let me know when you
made it. I know you will -okay.

Two thumbs up.

I think rylie is holding herself

To a really high standard
of performance out here.

Thanks.

I think she left because
she's not gonna be able to operate

At a high level for a few days.

And it's really
frustrating for her.

I don't have
anything else to prove.

I've done 60 days, I've done 40
days, I've done another 21 days.

At this point in
my survival journey,

It's about how I perform and
what I can bring to the table.

Despite her
legen status, rylie chooses

To exit the challenge
after only six days.

Her psr drops from 9.1 to 8.

It's hard. You know, it
certainly doesn't feel good.

But I think it's the
right thing to do.

Yep. Yep, yep, yep.
What it is to be solo.

Coming into this as a rookie I did
not expect my legend to tap on day six.

I'm feeling frustrated,
feeling a little bit upset.

Rylie brought a
lot to the table,

Knowledge and skills
and expertise out here.

It's a big speed
bump in the plans

And it's gonna make
things a lot more difficult.

No rest from the thorns.

Now the fun
part. Get that brain out of there.

Yummy.

- Yummy.
- All right.

- This is all together?
- Need help?

Yeah.

Michaelyn was able
to process the entire pig.

Now that we have the hide,

We gotta pull the
brains out of the head.

This is my
first time tanning a hide.

But I've seen it done before.

There's chemicals in the brain that
help keep the hide supple and soft.

Brain tissue
contains lecithin oil

That serves as a
natural tanning agent.

It lubricates the skin and
prevents it from becoming rawhide.

- So you have it the way it is now.
- Mmm-hmm.

You rub it all around itself,
and then you fold it together.

And then you let it like soak
in there for like a day or two.

- Okay.
- Yeah.

I think that's how it
works. I'm not 100% sure.

- You're the legend.
- I am the legend.

But I've never tanned
anything on a challenge...

Using brains.

I'm just not thinking about it,

What I'm really touching.

It's pretty nasty but...

These shoes are gonna be a
lifesaver out here, especially for me.

Max will probably go run
across the desert and be fine.

Carry a warthog on
his shoulders barefoot.

- No problem.
- Gotta do what you gotta do.

No problem for a legend.

I think this is good.

Nice. Fold her up.

All right.

Here I am. My first
night alone in the boma.

Rylie tapped out
today, left me all alone

For five days until the merger.

I'm not super stoked about that.

But if she wanted to
go, she wanted to go.

Can't do too much about it.

Now it's all me. I hope
I can do it on my own.

I'm ready to get back in it

Personally, the most
difficult thing is hunting.

It's something that
rylie is really good at

And I hope to have
learned something from her

Because I really
gotta get some food.

Oh.

A warthog with some hide.

Oh, man.

Nice!

Look at this guy.

I stumble across a dead warthog.

And the warthog has a pelt on it

Which looks like good
hearty shoes to me.

Going to use this hide to
create shoes for the merge hike,

And hopefully make it all
the way to the extraction hike.

I'll let that soak
for a while...

Enough to manipulate it
and shape it into shoes.

- I'm gonna sit in the shade.
- Cool.

I'm on fire.

Excuse me.

Oh, oh, oh.

Oh, oh.

Oh.

Ow that hurt.

Just walked on
fire for a second there.

Max accidentally steps
on some hot coals.

And just the reaction, I
think, startled both of us.

Oh, that sucked.

If that had
been a worse situation,

It could have easily taken
him out of the challenge.

A burn out here
would be so miserable.

It feels really good in the mud.

I bet.

Yeah, I need max out here.
He's been a great mentor.

I think being out here would
be really hard on my own.

The baboons last night were
making all sorts of crazy sounds.

They were flipping rocks, I
presume, looking for scorpions.

Taking a cue from the baboon

I'm gonna also flip rocks
and look for scorpions.

All right. It's dinner.

Big one.

Cut off the stinger.

Scorpions like
this can be deadly.

So you really have to make sure,
absolutely sure, to cut the stinger off.

Knowing I'm gonna eat at least
one scorpion is a great feeling.

Certainly better than nothing.

Cheers. Scorpion meal.

Has a pleasant sort of...

I don't know,
barbecue flavor to it.

Yeah, I don't want you to
get too close to the knife here.

Just 'cause it's
like a little sketch.

This will be my
second pair of shoes.

I made my first pair of
shoe the air jerusalem 1s,

Out of impala hide.

But this is the first time
working with warthog.

It feels a lot like I'm
working with leather.

I'm a designer now.

Hey, new kicks!

My partner tapped because
she damaged her feet.

So I'm making shoes.

I'm using acacia
thorns as needles,

And the fishing line as thread.

I have no sowing experience,
just figuring it out as I go.

On the merge hike
these will be great.

Yeah.

The moment of truth.

Yeah.

I can do anything now.

All of our shoes are
cut up and ready to go.

And, you know, we run the
strings, which is the warthog hide.

Oh, schnaps.

The air jerusalem
2s coming to ya.

Let's go!

Uh.

Tight.

I'm super excite
to have them for our merge.

I really think that they're gonna
be just a complete game changer

When it comes to merge time.

Put them on
and they feel really good.

Yeah, buddy.

And I have nothing stabbing
through my foot which is hug

Here you go. Head up. You ready?

Ooh, ooh, ooh. Ah!

Oh, to the lane right there.

These air jerusalem 2s are hot!

Yeah, I think I'm
gonna buy them.

- Good.
- Think so.

I'm excited for merge tomorrow,

Just to meet another legend

I think that's so awesome that not
only am I partnered with max out here,

But I get to meet
another legend as well.

And I just hope that we com together
even stronger as a tribe of four.

Ooh, cobra! Cobra!
Big ole cobra.

Big ole cobra, baby!

Give me your knife.

Time to play, baby!

Give me your knife.

Ooh, cobra!

Big ole cobra, baby!

Give me your knife.

He's ready to start striking.

It's time to play, baby!

Let's go, baby!

- Whoo!
- Let's go! We're having snake for lunch, baby!

We're having
snake for lunch! All right.

- Beautiful. Look at him.
- Oh, my gosh.

Even when decapitated,

A cobra can still deliver a deadly
venomous bite for up to one hour.

Probably should bury him.

That's scary that
he was so close to our boma.

- Have you ever eaten snake?
- No!

Before naked and afraid
I'd never eaten a snake either.

- Here we go.
- Here we go!

Michaelyn, she's getting the
initiation that she deserves.

I'm just so thankful to
have her as a partner

And be able to share
these experiences with her.

- Oh, try some of that.
- Thank you.

- Pretty good.
- Yeah?

Mmm-hmm.

We had a cobra come
through our camp.

Thankfully that max
was here to save the day.

- That's what legends do.
- Thanks.

It is my last night here.

I am nervous for the hike.

I haven't really eaten too
much in the past several days.

I am truly hoping that
when get to the merge spot

There will be two new
partners to hang out with.

Hopefully, I can make it.

Today is merge day.

- Let's get the heck out of here.
- Let's get out of here.

Let's ride.

I'm excited to see what
greener pastures lie ahead.

I'm super excited to see
the legend and their rookie

Ready to go. Feeling good.

Feeling ready, feeling hydrated.

Can't forget the shoes.

This hike is gonna be hard.

I'm anticipating a lot
of heat, a lot of sun.

A lot of thorns.

But I'm definitely ready
to be part of a tribe.

Goodbye, boma!

I will see you...
Probably never.

- Bye, boma!
- Bye, boma!

It was real!

Lots of animal dangers.

Snakes, baboons,
buffalos, leopards.

Looks like almost double
the distance of what we did for...

- Exertion.
- Yeah. That was long.

Thankfully, we
have shoes this time.

Yeah, we got shoes, but we should probably
start moving before the sun gets too high.

- Let's head out then.
- Cool, let's roll.

To reach their merge point,

Max, michaelyn, and noah,
will have to travel three miles

From their respective
camps through steep terrain,

Riddled with razor-sharp
acacia thorns,

And jagged rocks that
easily puncture skin,

Till they arrive to the top of a
plateau, where the two tribes will merge.

Lots of dried grass.

Lots of hot, boulder-y rocks

It's just changing
all over the place.

Ready for this?

You wanted to rock climb.

- I'm gonna take my shoes off for this.
- Yeah.

'cause it's too slippery.

I'm trying to keep up with max.

He's an extreme athlete.

But on this terrain, it's starting
to get really difficult for me.

Oh!

What?

Just take your time.

Looks like it flattens
out right up here, so...

awesome.

Nice.

This seems like as good as a time
as any to put on the shoes, to me.

All righty.

See how that goes.

- Ooh, it's getting hot.
- Yeah.

Look at this zebra.

Wow. We are not alone.

Wildebeest.

This is just
leopard territory, for sure.

Cat poop everywhere.

I'm almost at the merge point.

And I'm nervous.

I really hope there
are people there.

It is warm out here.

The sun is just
beating down on us, I'm dehydrated.

Every time I think
we're getting close,

You know, there's another, uh, hillside
we have to clim more rocks to go over.

You okay?

Sure?

You're crushing it.

Seriously, you're crushing it.

I'm hoping that
we get there soon,

Just because this is
a lot of work for me,

This is a lot of
work for michaelyn.

We've been walking for hours.

Oh!

I think I see a person.

- Hey!
- Naked people!

How's it going?

Is that max?

It was awesome to see max.

Oh, my goodness!

He was one of my top choices.

He's a very skilled
hunter and survivalist.

It's just you?

Just me.

What?

Yeah, my partner was rylie.

- No way!
- She stepped in some hot coals and she tapped.

Crazy! Cheers.

- I'm noah.
- Nice to meet you.

- Max.
- Michaelyn.

- Nice to meet you guys.
- Yeah.

She burned her foot?

- Yeah, she burned her foot.
- What?

I stepped on hot coals too.

- Yeah, it's a bummer.
- Yeah.

She tapped.

Damn.

I didn't think she would tap

I'm really sad that she's no
here to share this experienc

But, you know, one
legend has to March on

And be a leading force
through this challenge.

One legend and
two rooks, let's roll!

- You want some jerky?
- I would love some jerky.

- Let's go!
- Thank you!

The tribe offers
me warthog jerky,

That's more than I've eaten
in the previous five days.

- It's so good to see other people out here.
- Yeah.

Noah, he's excited to
be paired up with some teammates.

- Six days by yourself.
- So stoked.

For him to have survived
this long on his own,

You have to be tough.

I think it's time
for us to find water.

Let's pull out the map
and take a look-see, huh?

So looks like we've merged up...

Right here.

And we have to get to some
water which looks like right there.

- Yeah.
- I mean, we're at a high point,

So I'm assuming
we gotta head down.

- Follow the fault line.
- Yeah, follow the fault line.

- Let's do it!
- Nice.

From the merge
point, the newly formed trib

Will hike southwest three miles

To a low-lying valley
with small ponds.

Near a river mouth that attracts
herds of aggressive cape buffalo

And territorial baboons.

I feel like for the
last couple of days for me

The wildlife has been
returning to the area.

That's what we were saying too.

Like the baboons
started showing up.

Mmm-hmm.
They were getting closer.

On their hike,
max, michaelyn, and noah,

Will be moving
through the grasslands,

The domain of the white rhin

These two-ton behemoths will
aggressively protect their territory,

And can charge at speeds of up to
31 miles per hour when provoked.

Hey, watch where you're stepping
and always check your surroundings.

- Mmm.
- It looks like we're descending now.

- That's a good sign, trying to find water.
- That is a good sign.

Dang!

What a view!

Holy crap.

Oh.

It reminds me a lot
of the american west.

Oh, oh! What've we got?

- Gnu on the side of the hill.
- Oh, no, those are waterbucks.

- Those are waterbucks?
- Yeah, they've got the white ring.

- Oh, okay, okay.
- Nice.

- That's good.
- That's a good sign.

I don't know if we want
to drop down this space,

It probably gets
cliffed out, looks like.

- Yeah.
- That way.

We can try to
circumnavigate over here?

- Take a breath.
- Take a breath.

One hour at a time,
one step at a time.

I think going down is
worse than climbing.

Can I just roll down?

I'll catch you at the
bottom if you wanna roll.

It seems like michaelyn
is kinda struggling.

But she's pushing through it
and I think she's doing grea

- ooh!
- Yeah, watch out.

Slippery when wearing warthog.

Almost there.

Phew. Good work.

I think we wanna head...

- That way.
- Yeah, closer to the water.

Keep our eyes peeled for good
cover, enough thorns to make up a boma

And somewhere to
put our heads down.

This looks pretty
nice right in here.

Looks like a decent
amount of shade.

We found a nice little canop

It's tucked out to the side so we
won't get just hammered by the winds.

There's already part of
a boma setup right there.

This will be our entrance if we
just put a bomber wall on this side,

To protect us from that wind.

Cool.

So hot and nasty.

I'm so dehydrated,
my mouth is so dry.

I really just feel like I'v just hit a
wall and I'm at my breaking point.

What?

Really?

Just you're at the end of your rope?

I know you've just
gotta let it out a little bit.

I wanna go.

I wanna go.

All we gotta do is
make it through the night.

Get a good night sleep tonight.

And then we're in a good space.

I'm the mentor.

I feel like my challenge is
dependent on her success.

You wanna get a little fire
going? Boil some water?

Let's do it.

Max and I spent 10
days together, he's an awesome partner.

He knows what to say to really, like,
bring me back into a good mental space.

- I'm proud of you.
- Thank you.

Yeah.

You're crushing it.

- Oh, yeah?
- Seriously.

I feel like it's crushing me.

Michaelyn seems to be
having a little bit of a hard time.

She relaxed for a little
bit but that's totally okay.

Max and I are happy
to take the lead.

It's day 11 on a
21-day tribes challenge.

This is one of the hardest
days on any challenge.

Hiking four-plus
miles to a new location,

Building a boma,
have to get water going,

We're starting a
whole new challenge.

This very harsh environment
is not easy on the body.

This is freaking tough.

Nice work.

Fire!

This boma is already probably
better than my previous boma.

Lots of leafy branches, it
should be pretty windproo

- did you get it?
- Mmm-hmm.

These guys were amazing today.

I had a rough day.

But I couldn't thank them enough
for everything they did for me today.

So I'm gonna get some sleep
and hope tomorrow is a better day.

How you feeling?

Better today.

You're on the mend.

Today I am feeling
so much better,

I'm glad that I just
stuck it out last night.

Today I'm just gonna
set some fishing lines.

I'll try to find some bait this
morning on my way out there.

I'll probably end up
trekking up to the viewpoint,

See what my move can be.

We showed up at a new location.

That means new opportunities

So, I'm heading upriver

And trying to circumnav back
around so I can work downwind.

The dynamic between
the new tribe is awesome.

Max is hunting, I'm fishing,

Michaelyn is helping
me get bait and set lines.

That kind of looks like a skull.

- Yeah.
- Catfish?

My goodness.
Yeah, it's a catfish headplate.

Where's this
guy at? That was his brother.

There are
monster fish in this lake.

The african sharptooth catfish

Is a species only found in
freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds.

They grow up to 5 feet
and weigh up to 130 pounds.

Their wide mouths enable
the to swallow prey whole.

His head is as big as my head.

Dang.

One of these monster
fish could feed us

For the rest of the
challenge, easy.

They're around.

I see something.
There's an opening right there.

I believe it's nyala.
There's two of them.

Nyala are large,
spiral horned antelope.

They can weight
up to 275 pounds.

They forage for plants in the
early morning or late afternoon

Usually alone or
in small groups.

In the trees like
that, they don't have

The best view right
now of this ridge line.

Let's give it a shot,
let's just cruise.

Hopefully they
start bedding down

And I can just creep up on them.

That'd be the dream.

Noah and I were looking for bait

And I look down and
see these tiny little frogs

Just hopping everywhere.

I got two.

All right.

Okay.

Sorry, guy.

I'm hoping that the
lines with bait will work

As opposed to hunting
fish with a machete.

I throw the line, I bury
the stick so the stick

Can't be pulled out,
and then I'm going to

Grab some rocks and
kind of secure it in place.

I have four lines out right now.

I'm hoping for fish tomorrow

maybe the hardest
par is going to be trying to

Get down to that water
without them noticing me.

That's the crux
of this situation.

This'll be one of the
most epic stalk and shots

If this goes dow

To bring home something
in the antelope family,

Would really solidify
my abilities as a hunter,

As a provider, as a
leader, as a mentor,

As all of the things.
As a survivalist.

It would be the exclamation
point I want on this challenge.

Probably one of the most hypervigilant
animals I've ever encountered.

So, the stalk and
shot is pretty difficult.

About to set up a blind here.

Pretty damn close to the water.

It's got this nice
little overhang.

I'll catch them right
crossing the water.

And that'll be my shot.

I can't believe
I didn't bring my knife.

Rookie mistake.

The blind looks freaking bomber.

I would hunt here
even if I wasn't naked

And really, really hungry.

Boom. Right there.

That's ideal for me.

- It's raining.
- A little.

- I think it might pass, though.
- It's gonna pass.

Yeah, look,
it's like bright out that way.

We are going
into the rainy season,

So it's all about just
preparing for the worst.

We are anticipating
a potential downpour

Like we had on night three.

And that was absolutely brutal.

And that's a great way to take
you straight out of a challenge.

So we're trying to figure ou
the best way for us to cove

If that were to happen.

So I'm thinking two y sticks
that are about yea high.

I'm just going to
build a debris hut.

There's room for three in here.

Yeah, I mean, you sit down,

And we'll put her in the middle,

- And we'll freaking...
- yeah.

Hunker down here.

Maybe we'll do sticks first

And then we'll just
stack it on there

Just as much as possible.

- This looks great.
- Better than nothing.

At least we're prepared in case
something does come through.

Good work.

That was a team effort
right there. Oh, oh, yes.

Sounds like the baboons
are not too stoked.

Nothing and the
bait's still there.

Massive fish jumping everywhere.

They're around.

I just like to get the fish
lines checked and re-baited

Before it gets
darker and colder.

Frog bait is still on this one.

We're almost out
of warthog jerky.

It's really cold out here
and we're getting very hungr

But, feeling good.
There's signs of fish.

There's fish jumping
all over the place,

So they're feeding.

One more week,
fan challenge complete.

- Yep.
- You guys are officially more than fans.

I'm stoked for you guys.

I'm heading to my blind.

- Good luck, man.
- Thank you. You too.

Even though I'm the
mentor, our best bet,

If we're going to
eat, is to split up.

Our camp is located at
the intersection of this river.

Noah fishes downstream,
towards the larger body of water,

And I hunt upstream,
about a mile or so.

It's a tough walk,
but I need to be away

From human scent if I
hope to shoot something

That's also why I hunt alone

The larger the human footprint,

The less animals are
going to be around here

I'm incredibly grateful
that max is hunting.

I'll get, um, the fire going.

Okay.

We're getting stuff
done back at the boma.

It's a win-win for everyone

Just gotten in my blind.

Got a good breeze.

I'm hoping they
start funneling in here

And I can get a shot off.

Uh, a duck saw me.

He scoped me out and I
thoug I was pretty camouflaged.

I'm going to reenforce
this blind in order for me t

Get a better shot off next time.

Day 14 is in the books.

It feels good to be able
to go hunt and know that

gonna still be getting done

On the home front.

Hopefully we can get a big kill.

Holy cow.

Bone chilling.

Holy.
How you feeling?

I'm feeling cold and
the temperature definitely dropped.

It is frickin' freezing.

We are soaking wet and hungry.

I'm pretty exhausted.

Very cold. Very wet.

You can see our breaths.

This is horrible.

It's going to be a long night.

That might have been
one of the coldest, wettest,

Scariest nights I've
had on naked and afraid.

Worse than my fan
challenge in panama.

F off..

Come on, come
on, babe. Let's do this.

And my panama tribe challeng

panama.
Give us a break here.

Freezing.

Every part of it was gnarly.

Honestly, I couldn't have
done it without you guys,

Physically and mentally.

That storm just beat us down.

So today we are going to focus
on just drying out, staying warm,

And we need to definitely
get a big win sometime soon.

- Got to say positive.
- Yeah.

Yes.

This one still
has the bait but no fish.

Throw it off right over here.

I'm taking an easy day becau

I have been going non-stop
since our merge hike.

After last night,
I am beat down.

So I think if you were to
stand, like, up on the rocks,

You might be able to, like,
spot them for me a little bit.

If they bring home
a kill, I would be ecstatic

He's about to pop a fish.

You all right?

Yeah, just my pride.

Not getting food is frustrating.

I'm kind of starting to
feel the pressure a little bit.

Whew, it's chilly.

It's the morning of day 17.

We've been trying everything
to get food on the table.

The cold is so exhausting.

But hopefully our
luck changes today.

I think there's a warthog
up on this hillside.

I feel like a lot is
on my shoulders

Because I am the legend

And I am the one who
has the most experience.

So I need to step up and
get this win for our team.

Oh.

I just blew it.

Even just walking to
the lake takes effort and energy.

It's getting tough.

No fish, no bait.

Long, long hike. There's
like, literally no winning.

I know.

Max comes back to the
boma, he's emptyhanded.

We've gone so long with
just nothing happening here.

Every day feels like a low point

And then it just gets worse.

But we just keep each other

Uplifted and supported
the best that we can.

Hasta la vista.

Thank you. We'll
see what happens.

- Yeah, good luck, man.
- Yeah.

Max goes hunting for the day

And michaelyn and
I go check on lines.

Day 18. My birthday.

Oh, happy birthday.

I think max feels a lot
of pressure right now

Just to get another win.

So it'd be great if we're able
to bring him some fish today.

We haven't eaten too much.

I think, as a tribe, we migh
be getting to a low point.

I wish I was
catching fish. I'm not.

Currently at a view point.

I'm looking for any sort of game

Coming in and out
of this waterway.

I saw a couple warthogs,
but they're pretty far away

Nothing I can
really do about that.

It has been 15 days since
the last big win for me.

And that's the
longest I've ever gone

On any challenge without a win.

I'm feeling a little bummed.

Feeling productive today.

I am not catching fish
in the larger body of water

So, I'm checking the
smaller shallower pools.

This pool, the next
one, and the next one,

Are the ones that are most
directly connected to the water.

Maybe a big fish
got trapped in there.

I'm looking for movement.

Poking around.

This one's a little
deep for spear fishing.

Shallow pools make
it easier to see the fish.

Oh, my god.

There's a huge catfish
right there in this pool.

There's no way he can get out.

I'm in go mode.

I'm glad it's not super deep.

But the fish is
incredibly hard to see.

It's tricky. He's allusive.

Ah, it's gone.

No.

I hurt him pretty
good with my spear.

This is like my moby
dick, this fish, at this point.

It's right there.

Back to the basics.

Oh, shoot. There he is.

I got to go see what's going on.

Yeah!

So I'm making
a hat out of reeds,

Hoping to get some
sort of sunblock.

And rylie grabs it.

Give me it. Let me see what
it would look like as a bra.

- Oh, my god.
- It's perfect.

Actually, it's really
comfortable. It fits perfectly.

It's strangely
accurate for my bust.

Let me tell you, I could
pick up a lot of firewood,

Nothing's going to
get to the nip tops.

Making bras was not
on my survival resume.

This whole time, you
were making a bra

And you didn't even know.

But I'm happy to add it.

I just need one other one.

I would actually
wear this around.

Oh, my goodness.

Yes!

I got to go see what's going on.

Let's go. Come on!

This is the fish I
have been looking for.

Yeah!

I bopped it.

Legend.

- Ah, look what I got us to eat.
- Nice. Ah.

- Man, thanks.
- I'm so stoked for you. Here.

- Dude, it...
- No, no, no, I got it, I got it, I got it.

It's so heavy.

Oh, my gosh.

- Congratulations.
- I can't believe that I caught this.

That's a monster.

I am flabbergasted by
a man-eater of a fish.

I'm so proud of him.

Awesome, that's crazy.

That might be the biggest
catfish ever caught on naked and afraid.

Got two rookies
hat saved the day.

Way to go, noah.

I'll head back,

Get things rolling for tonight.

Noah has just changed
everything for us.

This thing's massive
and it's just going to

Carry us through till the en

such a big win,
dude. I'm so thankful.

The energy has
absolutely 100% shifted.

It's amazing how much

Even the promise of
food changes your mood.

That's a lot of meat, dude.

Yeah.

We're going to
use every part of that fish.

You know, you throw the head in
there, we make some fish head stew.

We start smoking
and we barbeque.

Let's feast.

Oh, yeah.

"oh, yeah" is right. Holy shoot.

Wow.

Magnifico.

As you take that first
bit, as it hits your lips,

It's a special moment to share.

It's just as tasty as,
like, a well-cooked steak.

Mmm-hmm.

Tasty.

Getting food for my partners

And being able to share
in this experience with the

Is amazing, like, one of
the best feelings in the world.

This is a great way to
end my 24th birthday.

Happy birthday, dude.

- Thank you, man.
- Yep.

- Hell, yeah.
- Yep.

I think noah is now a
legend in his own right

After this one, so, I think
we got a rookie of the year.

Michaelyn?

Blow it out.

Thanks.

What do you say, one
last team trip to the water?

Take out the lines for
good and take in the sights?

Let's party.

Day 20 is finally here.

Being close to
the en is nerve wracking

Because people have tapped
out in the past where I'm at now.

There are still a lot
of dangers out here.

I would be heartbroken
to not finish at this point.

It's going to
be a big day tomorrow.

More so for these
guys than it is for me,

But I just need to
be a good leader

And, you know, get them
prepared for what's ahead.

Holy crap.
There are baboons.

Get! Get!

He doesn't give a.

It's leaving.

Are you naked and
afraid right now?

Yeah, I'm terrified.

I'm terrified.

I'm glad those
baboons took off last night.

Yeah.

- Day 21.
- Day 21.

- Let's go.
- I'm so proud of you guys.

I'm proud of us too.

Seriously, we'll drain a little bit
more, put out the fire, and let's go!

Yes!

This challenge is really hard,

But, the reason why I keep
coming back for naked and afraid

Is getting to that finish line.

It's one of the most
special experiences

That I have ever
experience in my entire life.

And I'm so happy to be able to share
it with these rooki that are now pros.

Do the honors.

Nice.

The humble boma.

Catch you later.

Yeah.

I am nervous
for this final extraction.

The merge hike coming
in was pretty rough on me,

But I'm just gonna
have to give it my all.

All right, who's
got that map? Cool.

- So, we're right here.
- Yup.

And our extraction's right here.

It looks like we might
have to get a little wet.

- We could take the waterway, but...
- yeah.

I think going
over would be our best bet.

- It'll make a lot more sense to go up and over.
- Cool.

See some clouds rolling
in, we should try to beat that.

- Yup, let's go.
- All right.

Max, michaelyn
and noah will hike

3 miles on narrow game trail winding
through rugged, mountainous terrain.

They will then need to
traverse an open plain,

Frequented by leopards
and home to deadly cobras

And puff adder snakes that kill more
people than a other snake in africa.

Their final mile will be a painful
descent down a 400-foot ridge,

Full of slippery rocks and
thickets of skin-piercing thorns,

Until they reach a large lak
where they will swim out 200 yards,

Through frigid murky
waters to their rescue boat.

- Whoo. This breeze is no joke.
- Mmm-mmm.

- It's cold.
- It's gonna be a cold, cold swim.

Yeah, so I'm thinking
we head up to the saddle.

- Up the staircase.
- Yeah.

Little slick, so be careful.

Just never know what's hiding
behind any of these rocks.

This is cobra territory.

And they blend in
really, really well.

So, if you're not
hyper vigilant,

You could get hit and
it could be game over.

- A mangled impala horn.
- Oh, man.

There's a lot of
animals that have died

And I think the main
culprit is leopards.

We're going into
their territory right now

And, you know it's
a little unsettling,

But we just gotta power
through and make it to the end.

Watch out, a cactus right there.

I see it.

Are you good, noah?

Yeah, trying
not to stub my toes.

Aw, now we're getting
into some thorns here, guys.

Be careful with your steps here.

Lot of thorns.

Ow.

How we doing?

Doing.

Michaelyn's
kind of slowing down.

This is new for both of them,

So I have to be a good
leade and a good route finder

In order for us to get
to point a to point b,

But it's very hard, just
because it's so mountainous.

Whoo-hoo.

Oh, wow.

Holy cow, what a view.

Wow.

- Wow.
- Wow.

Dang. So dope.

Our extraction is
somewhere in the middle there.

This looks pretty steep,
though, so we better be careful.

Yeah.

- Yeah.
- Take it slow.

Take it slow and easy.

- This stuff's a bit hard to walk on.
- Ow.

This is rough on the feet.

Isn't it?

Frickin' gravel pit.

These rocks are
sharp and they are not stable,

So I'm just taking my
time, watching every step

And trying to make smart moves.

Ooh, be careful there.

- An acacia fortress down here.
- Oh, good.

- Aw.
- Ooh.

Are you bleeding?

Oh, yeah.

Sliced a big old
chunk out of the foot.

Found your blood trail.

Dang.

It's not too bad.

But it's definitely bleeding.

Take it easy, max.

This is no big
deal, sometimes you need

To feel that pain to
really feel that gain.

Well, here goes nothing.

What if I get tapped
from this foot situation?

We're dragging
you through the water.

- You'll pull me through the water?
- Yup.

Probably just have to
swim out towards the middle.

- You guys ready for this swim?
- Ready?

Whoo!

It's kind of chilly.

Walk straight into it.

Whoo!

Let's go! Let's go,
baby! Come on!

Never had
to swim in this cold of wate

This far out into a lake
and I'm really struggling.

Keep moving, get
that blood flowing.

Come on, baby.

Keep pushing, guys.

We're almost there.

My muscles are cramping,
I'm exhausted I'm out of breath, it's hard

Hopefully, the boat shows up
soon, 'cause this water's cold.

- Come on.
- Oh, I see a boat!

We're here, yeah!

- Whoo!
- Let's go!

Come on, guys.

Almost there.

Want a hand?

Power through those legs,
power through those legs.

Come on, there you got
it. Good boy. Bring it in.

Guys, bring it in.

So proud of you guys.

When my partner, the legend,
left on day 6, I felt pretty discouraged.

But not only did I
complete this challenge,

But I did a significant
portion of it on my own.

And the camaraderie, I made
memories that I will not forget ever.

After surviving 21
days in nama karoo, south africa,

Noah heads home 31 pounds
lighter. His psr rises from 5.7 to 6.

Oh, amazing, how do you feel?

Amazing.

Oh, my god.

Through this challenge I learned

When, uh, the going gets
tough, I can push through it.

I couldn't have done it
without such a great team.

I'm just on top of the world.

Michaelyn lost a total of
13 pounds. Her psr rises from 6.0 to 7.

6-0!

Let's go!

With a couple of rookies
who turned into pros.

Let's go.

The challenge was
all about the rookies.

I've had partners get sick, hurt
themselves, the list goes on.

And, uh, to have these guys
power through is just so special.

We all were rooting for each
other in any way possible.

I'm proud of the way
my team upheld me.

And along the way, I learned
that it doesn't matter about the wins,

It matters about the teamwork
and it really brings my story full circle.

Amazing.

Max leaves his sixth
survival challeng 21 pounds lighter.

His psr rises from 9.5 to 9.8.

We've had a lot of ups
and downs in this challenge,

And I know I'm just gonna grow
as a person and use this experience

To better everything that I do.

Whoo!

We did it, baby.

Let's go!
