When Goldie the Groundhog predicts more winter, Gloria decides to make spring come by any means necessary so she can retrieve a lost toy; when she fails to control the weather, Gloria learns to embrace other plans.

(Gloria) Places!

(everybody laughs)

(shutter triggers)

(Marty) Incredible, isn't it?

(Alex) The water's
completely calm.

(Melman) It sure is!

I like to call this part
the calm before the...

(Gloria) Woohoo!

(Melman) Great job, Gloria!

I could watch your
mermaid diving all day!

(Marty) We did watch all
day! It's almost bed time.

(Gloria) Can't
wait to cuddle up.

The water was
extra chilly today.

(everybody shivering)

(Melman) So was the air.



(Alex) And
everything else. Brr!

(Marty) At least you've
got a fur coat. Ugh.

I've gotta do my high-kick
trot to keep warm.

(Gloria) How about it, Coral?

Time to head home
and hit the hot tub.

(both gasp)

Your tail! Oh, no.

It probably fell
off in the water.

(Marty) Huh.

D-do you want to
go back in for it?



(Gloria) Nah, I'll
just come back

in the morning
when the sun's out,

and get her tail then.

Coral's tail, here I come!

Uh! Ah! Ah!

Ah!

(Gloria grunts)

I can't get your tail back
when the pond's frozen!

Winter can't last
too long, right?

(Millie) Give it up, Murray! Ya
still got 89 days til spring!

(Gloria) Huh?

(Gloria gasps)

It's a beautiful day!

The sun's shining,
the ground's freezing

and I made this delightful
snow hippo in your image!

(Gloria sighs)

(Gloria) Still snowing,
huh? It's been weeks

since the Central
Park pond froze.

Thought this whole winter
thing would be over by now.

(Melman) Yeah, isn't
this the "bestest"?

(both laughing)

(Marty) Gloria, we need you!

Ronathan challenged us to another
sledding race and you're our star sledder!

(Gloria) It's too cold to
slide around in all that snow.

Coral and I will stay
nice and warm in here.

(Alex) You gotta get out
of that hot tub eventually,

or you'll miss all
of the winter fun!

(Gloria) No, I won't. Cause there's
no such thing as winter fun!

(Melman gasps)

As long as there's
snow on the ground,

I can't dive in the pond
to get Coral's tail back.

And if I can't
get her tail back,

she can't swim and play with me.

And if she can't swim
and play with me...

there can be no fun!

(Alex) But what about all
the cool winter stuff?

Like the slipping and
sliding and twinkly lights!

(Melman) And snow plows!

(Marty) Yeah, and
building snow-mammals

and counting snowflakes!

(Melman) And also
the snow plows!

(Gloria) I'd rather
be sailboat racing

and sandcastle making

and cannonballing with
my favorite mermaid. Huh?

(Ant'ney) So I tell the guy,

the great thing about flyin's
you don't need snow-tires.

(Ant'ney laughs)

I gotta ask, kid.

You're not your
usual dramatic self.

(Alex) Really? How 'bout now?

(Ant'ney) Ow!

(Ant'ney gasps)

Ooh? Hmm? Ooh? Hmm?

(Marty) Are you
talkin' to Snow Alex?

(both chuckle)

(Ant'ney) Yeah, I
knew it wasn't him

the whole time!

Anyway! Got any big
plans for Groundhog Day?

(Marty) There's a holiday
for ground dwelling rodents?

Do they have a parade? Do
they need help planning it?

(Melman) Oh! Maybe I should
sculpt the snow groundhog.

(Ant'ney) Do it while you can!
'Cause once Groundhog Day hits,

there's a chance that spring's
right around the corner

and all this snow
will melt away.

(Gloria) Spring?
I'm listening.

(Ant'ney) So, every year,
Goldie the Groundhog

comes out of a hole in
Greenville, Pennsylvania,

to announce if winter's over,

or if we gotta wait
a bunch more weeks

til it warms up.

(Gloria) A bunch more weeks?
I can't wait that long!

I need the pond to melt now!

(Ant'ney) Don't worry,
Goldie's a spring-time gal.

She brought spring real
quick four years in a row!

The groundhog who had
the job before her?

Winter all the time.
But not our Goldie.

(Gloria) She makes it
spring? How does she do that?

(Ant'ney) Eh...

Maybe she's got one of those
high-powered blow dryers.

I don't know.

However she does it, she's
got that special touch.

(Gloria) Coral,
did you hear that?

We'll get your tail back and
be divin' again in no time!



(Alex) Huh! Goldie's
about to hit the stage!

(Mary-Sue) Well, Todd, spring
is right around the corner,

or is it?

(Todd) We're about to
find out, Mary-Sue!

Let's check in on
Greenville, Pennsylvania,

where Goldie's about to predict
whether we're in for more winter.

(Gloria gasps)

Or if spring is on its way.

(Gloria) C'mon, spring!

(Melman) Or more winter
could be pretty great, too!

(Mary-Sue) Greenville Goldie's
been hibernating all winter.

Right now, she's
looking for her shadow.

(Todd) I love to
watch her process.

Settle in, folks,

Goldie's known to take her
time exploring her environment.

If you're just tuning in,

expect to see a
lot more sniffing.

(Ant'ney) Ooh, the
big announcement!

I love this part!

(Gloria) Get ready, Coral,
time to turn up the heat!

(groundhog chirps)

(Handler) Greenville
Goldie has seen her shadow.

That means we can look forward
to six more weeks of winter.

(Melman) Woohoo! Six
more weeks of snow plows!

That's amazing!

(Gloria) Six more
weeks of winter?

Ant'ney, I thought you said
she was the queen of spring!

(Ant'ney) Guess her
spring streak is over.

Heckuva run though. Uh!

(Gloria) Six weeks until
the pond unfreezes?

Ugh! It may as
well be forever.

(Alex) Where are
you going, Gloria?

(Gloria) My tank. Coral
and I have six weeks

of not having any
fun to prepare for.

(Marty) I know it's tough

when you can't do
what you wanna do.

But that doesn't mean you
can't do something else.

I mean, you're a strong,
fun-loving, resourceful hippo!

- (Gloria) Marty, you're right!
- (Marty) I get that a lot.

(Gloria) I am strong.

So if a teeny tiny groundhog
can control the weather,

imagine how much weather a big,
powerful hippo can control!

(Marty) Eh, that's not
where I was going. Ugh!

(both laughing)

Alex!

(Gloria) Before Goldie became the
all-powerful Greenville Goldie,

she was just a kid, like us!

(Alex) You're right, everyone
has to start somewhere!

(Gloria) And I'm gonna start
by asking winter to leave.

And if it won't leave,

then I'll just have
to kick it out myself.

Coral, get ready
for divin' season

'cause I'm about
to bring on spring

and get your tail back.

Alright, gang. It's
time to heat things up!

(Melman) I support you, Gloria,
but think of the snow plows.

(Alex) I'm in!

Spring lighting is much more
flattering to my whiskers.

(Marty) I wonder if we need a permit to change
the weather. we aren't exactly professionals.

(Gloria) If Goldie
can do it, we can too.

I just have to figure out how.

most-lost item, after socks.

(Gloria) Excellent.

I'm gonna need all the
shades you can find.

And one very long rope.

(Marty) Okay,
everyone. Stand back.

And do not look
directly at the sun.

(Alex) You think you can
reach the sun from here?

(Gloria) Worth a try!

I only need to lasso
it a little closer,

and the weather will
warm up in no time.

Here goes nothin'! Uh!

(Alex) It's going!

- (Melman) It's going!
- (Marty) It's...

(Gloria) I got something! Uh!

(Pickles) Whoa, whoa, whoa!

(Gloria gasps)

(Gloria) My bad.

(Pickles) If you wanted our
attention, you coulda just asked.

(Melman) Try again!
You were so close.

(Marty) Was she?

(Alex) I dunno about this plan.
We can't actually lasso the sun.

(Marty) Maybe there's something
you can do right here,

on the ground?

(Melman chuckles)

(Gloria) Snow! Of course.
To say hello to spring,

we've gotta say
sayonara to the snow!

(Melman) Say goodbye to
snow? I'll miss you, crunch.

(Gloria) If we can
end winter here,

we can do it anywhere!

First the habitat,
next the pond.

(Melman grunts)

Then the world!

(Melman) Uh, uh, oh! Oops.

(Alex) That's a lotta snow.

(Gloria) With all of us,
it shouldn't take too long

to shovel winter away.

(Alex grunting)

(Marty laughing)

(Melman grunting)

Phew!

(Gloria grunting)

(Marty) I'll just
be here resting

for a few days. Uh!

(Alex) Well earned, buddy. You
should take a break, Gloria!

(Melman) Yeah, don't
strain a muscle!

(Gloria) I'll rest when
I'm done! And I almost am.

Hah! We did it!

(Lucia) ¡Hola,
Gloria! ¿Qué pasa?

(Gloria) I'm getting
rid of winter!

(Lucia) Huh?

(Gloria) See? It
feels warmer already.

(Gloria sighs)

(everybody sighs)

Huh?

What? Not more snow!

No prob! I'll just
sweep these up.

(Melman) It's okay, Gloria!

I'll make sure they
don't hit the ground!

(Melman gasps)

(Melman screams)

(Lucia) ¡Upa!

Guess spring didn't feel
like sticking around, huh?

(Gloria) Nope. Huh!

Lucia, you've lived in all
sorts of tropical places.

You must know how
to warm things up.

(Lucia) Waiting for
the seasons to change

is a part of life! While
you wait for spring,

let your heart melt with
the beauty of the snow!

(Gloria) That's
not a bad idea!

Moving the snow isn't
enough to bring spring.

We've gotta melt it.

(Lucia) That's not
really what I meant.

(Gloria) And what
melts snow better

than a little warm water?

In your ready positions!

- (Marty) Ready!
- (Melman) Positions!

(Alex) Me too, what they said!



(Gloria) And, go!

(Marty) Pull!

(Gloria) It's working! This
is easier than I thought!

(everybody panting)

(Marty grunts)

(everybody screams)

(Melman) What was that?

(Marty) Clear ice,
the sneakiest of ices!

Invisible and slippery.

(Gloria) How am I gonna
defrost a whole icy pond

when I can't even
melt a little snow?

(Alex) Wasn't a total loss.

That was a pretty
awesome snow-cannonball.

(Gloria) Ant'ney was right.

Goldie's got the special
touch and I've got nothing.

I'm sorry, Coral.
We tried everything.

(Marty) Maybe it's time
to just accept winter

for what it is.

(Melman) And what
it is is beautiful.



(Alex) Goldie's on TV again!

(Gloria) Who cares!
Isn't anybody else sick

of that spring-avoiding
groundhog?

(Mary-Sue) Following
her big, wintry reveal,

Goldie will be joining
us for an interview

right here, in New York City!

(Gloria) Hmm. New
York City, huh?

(Todd) Some lucky New Yorkers

will get the very
special opportunity

to meet Goldie live
and in the fur today!

(Gloria gasps)

(Mary-Sue) This V.I.M.,
Very Important Mammal,

and her handler
just helicoptered

in to the Park Avenue Hotel,

where we'll meet
them after the break!

(Melman) How dare she come
here after what she did to you!

Although some of us are
pretty happy with her work.

(Gloria) I have to meet her.

(Melman) Huh? That's not
where I saw that going.

(Alex) You wanna get
her "pawtograph"?

(Gloria) Nope. I may not be able to
control the weather, but Goldie can.

I have to get her
to change her mind.

(Marty) What makes you
think she'll listen?

(Gloria) When she hears
about Coral's tail

stuck at the bottom
of the frozen pond,

and our long, playless,
funless months without it.

I just know she'll
understand and cancel winter.

(Alex) Get ready, Park Avenue.

(Gloria) Hey,

(groundhog chirps)

(Gloria) That must

(Marty) We'll create

(Guard gasps)

(everybody laughs)

(Handler) No reporters.

Goldie isn't doing
any further photo ops.

(Marty) Okay, but maybe

(Handler) Hey! Stop

(TV presenter) And lift
that leg up! Hold it.

(Goldie) Oh, you
spooked me, honey.

one of those humans

trying to get a picture.

Sorry for your trouble, but
I'm not doing "pawtographs"

for another hour.

(Gloria) I don't want
your "pawtograph."

(Goldie) Oh? But
aren't you a fan?

(Gloria) Definitely
not. I'm the opposite!

(Goldie) Well!

Well, because you
ruined everything!

(Goldie) Let me guess. Is
this about the weather?

(Gloria) Well, yes!

I came here to ask you
to change your mind

When you're in my line of work,

everyone's got something
to say about the weather.

(Gloria) Well,
weather's important!

It decides what kinda
day you're gonna have,

what toys you play with...

(Goldie) Those sound like
things you should be deciding.

And I'm sorry to tell you this,

but I can't control the
weather. I just predict it.

Even then, sometimes I'm wrong.

- (Gloria) But Ant'ney said...
- (Goldie) Ant'ney?

(Gloria) A very
well-informed pigeon.

(Goldie) Uh, what does a
pigeon know about the weather?

They don't even migrate! Uh!

Your pigeon friend
got this one mixed up.

I hibernate underground
for most of the winter.

After a few months,
I come up to see

if it's time to get up, or
if I gotta go back to bed.

That's all there is
to Groundhog Day.

(Gloria) But you're
not hibernating now.

(Goldie yawns)

(Goldie) I've got a
few more interviews,

then I'm going back underground.

But until then,
if you don't mind,

I could use a power nap,

that hibernation
feeling's kicking in.

(Gloria) Oh, um,
yeah. No problem.

(Goldie) Thanks, darlin'.

(Handler) Hey, you,

(Gloria) I hate to
break it to you, Coral,

but it looks like you're

(Melman) I bet you'd be

somewhere deep,

(Melman) My fail-safe
technique for feeling better

(Gloria chuckles)

(Melman panting)
