(Melman) Well, last

New Year's Eve celebration,

Year's resolution?

(Mary-Sue) Well, this year,

I'm going to learn
how to do a cartwheel.

(Todd) Hey! That's
my resolution, too!

(laugh)

(Alex) My resolution is
to work on my impressions.

They all sound the same.

(Marty) What are you saying?

(Marty) Yeah, I

Gloria, what's your
New Year's resolution?

(Gloria) I'm gonna create
a new style of dance,

combining ballet and Taekwondo.

Oh, I gotta work on that,

that's why I'm making it
my New Year's resolution.

-(Melman) I want a New Year's revolution!
-(Alex) Resolution, Melman.

It's a goal you make at
the beginning of the year.

(Marty) It can be anything
in the whole world!

Mine is to organize
my rock collection

by size and weight.

- (Alex) Didn't you do it last year?
- (Marty) Yup, but this year

I'm gonna do it
with my eyes closed!

(Alex) Whoa!

(grunt)

(Marty) Could use improvement.

(Melman) I'm gonna have to give my
resolution some serious thought.

(grunting)

(Alex) Look! Times Square is
all dressed up for New Year's!

(Mary-Sue) Welcome back!

We're in Times Square
as the city prepares

for the biggest
party of the year.

(Todd) Fireworks experts are planning
the most spectacular display yet!

(Mary-Sue) That's right!

Volunteers have been
hard at work to ensure

everything is ready for
the ball drop at midnight!

(Todd) Which will be here
before you know it, Mary-Sue.

(volunteer) Todd
and Mary-Sue rule!

(Mary-Sue) Thank you!

(Todd) If you're in Times Square
tonight, come on by and say hi.

You might just get on camera!

(Mary-Sue) Hey, Todd!

Watch this!

(screaming)

(Todd) Medic!

(screaming)

(Dumpling Dan) Not my cart!

(Todd) Oh, Mary-Sue!
Are you okay?

(Mary-Sue) Hey, now
that's a great dumpling!

(Alex) I've gotta meet
Todd and Mary-Sue tonight!

(Gloria) I bet
I'd look glorious

in one of those
glow-stick necklaces.

(Marty) I can't wait to
see all those fireworks!

And the ball drop.

(Melman) I don't get it. What's
so great about seeing a ball drop?

I see that every
time I play catch.

See?

(Alex) New Year's is all
about watching the ball drop

as the clock counts
down to midnight!

(Gloria) Don't forget about
the party hats, and the horns..

(horn)

(Marty) And seeing the fireworks!
It's the best night of the year.

(Marty imitates fireworks)

(Melman) Wow! How
come I've never been?

(Alex) We know how strongly you feel
about being in bed by eight o'clock.

(Melman) "Early to
bed, early to rise."

(Gloria) "Makes a giraffe
lengthy and wise."

- (Marty) We thought you'd rather go to sleep than come.
- (Melman) Not anymore.

I'm gonna stay up, go to Times
Square, and watch that ball drop!

- (Alex) Woo hoo!
- (Gloria) Atta boy, Melman.

(Melman) Yup! Tonight I'm
staying awake until 8:30!

(Marty) Actually, it doesn't
happen until midnight.

That's when the ball drops
and the new year starts.

(Melman) Midnight? I
can't stay up that late.

It's impossible!

(Lucia) A wise alpaca once told
me, "Nothing is impossible.

The word itself says
'I'm possible!'"

(Gloria) Happy New

(Alex) We'll go to Times
Square to watch the ball drop.

- Wanna come?
- (Lucia) Oh, gracias, but I've already got big plans.

I believe how you
spend New Year's Eve

sets the tone for
your whole year.

So, I'm gonna do the most
fun thing I can think of,

hang upside down!

(Melman) The most fun
thing I can think of

is seeing the ball
drop with my friends.

(gasp)

Does that mean if I miss
out on the fun tonight,

then I won't have fun all year?

(Lucia) Oh, no, that's
not what I mean.

(Melman) I can't have
no fun the whole year!

- Gotta make it to midnight!
- (Gloria) We'll help you, right?

- (Alex) Right!
- (Marty) This year, we rock out to New Year's together.

(Melman) I'm gonna

(Marty) Uh...

(Melman) You can't be

(Ant'ney) Lookin' good, kids!

(Alex) Whoa! Who's that?

- (Marty) Whoa!
- (Melman) Whoa!

(laughs)

(groaning)

- (Ant'ney) I'm okay!
- (Melman) What are you doing here?

(Ant'ney) Are you kidding? I'd
never miss a New Year's Eve in NYC!

(Melman) The city
looks so shiny!

(Marty) That's
New Year's for ya.

(Melman) I'm not
ready to go home.

(Ant'ney) So

pre-party face stretch.

Besides, I've already
made it this far.

-(Marty) About three hours.
-(Melman) What? It's only nine o'clock?

How am I gonna
make it that long?

(Gloria) You need a
little pick-me-up.

(Melman) That sounds
like a great idea.

(Gloria) Not the
pick-me-up I had in mind.

I know just the thing!

(laugh)

- A little dim sum in your belly should rev up your engines!
- (Melman) Whoa.

I've never seen Dumpling
Dan's look so fancy!

(Ant'ney) This isn't just
Dumpling Dan's. On New Year's Eve,

it's Dumpling Dan's
Dim Sum Spectacular!

(Alex) I guess you've
eaten here before.

(Ant'ney) I spend all year eating
bagel crumbs and pizza crusts.

But on New Year's...

(swallows)

I feast.

(yawns)

(Gloria) Hey, why don't you save
us a table while we wait in line?

(Marty) We'll be there with the
food in the blink of an eye!

(Melman) I'm on it!

(yawn)

(customer) Mmm,
soup dumplings.

Oops, forgot chopsticks.

(yawning)

(Melman) Hm. Wow.
Marty was right!

The food did get here
in the blink of an eye.

(munching)

- (Ranger Hoof) Evening, Stripes and friends.
- (all) Ranger Hoof!

- (Ant'ney) Ranger Hoof.
- (Marty) Good evening, Ranger Hoof.

(Ranger Hoof) You all come
out to watch the ball drop?

Where's your pal
with the longneck?

(Alex) Right over there by the
tables, eating that huge plate of...

(munching)

- (Marty) No!
- (Gloria) It's not our food!

(Ranger Hoof) Eating
someone else's dumplings?

Everyone knows that's a clear
violation of section six...

(Marty) ...Paragraph eight, I
know. I'm on it, Ranger Hoof.

- (Gloria) Melman, wake up!
- (Melman) Hm? Don't worry, I saved you some.

Whoops. Nope. Ate it all.

(Marty) Melman! That
wasn't our food.

(Melman) What? Then
whose food was it?

(customer) My dumplings!
Who ate my dumplings?

- (Ant'ney) Yeesh, that's gotta hurt.
- (Melman) Oh, no! I'll get more!

(Marty) You stay here and outta
trouble. I'll handle this.

(Melman) I'm sorry,
ma'am! It was an accident!

I'm just a little sleepy.

(Ranger Hoof) I hear you. Last
time I worked a double shift,

I was so exhausted I
accidentally bucked my partner

right into the pond.

(chuckle)

(snoring)

But sleepy or not,
rules are rules,

and if you can't follow
'em, you gotta go home.

(Melman) What? No! I
don't wanna go home!

Please?

(Ranger Hoof) You can't be
running around the city like this.

(sighs)

(customer) It's a New
Year's Eve miracle!

(Marty) Yes! We'll
supervise him, ma'am!

Junior Ranger's honor.

We will not take our eyes off
him for the rest of the night.

(Gloria) Melman's never
seen the ball drop before.

We don't want him to
miss out on the fun.

(Alex) It's the first New Year's
Eve we're spending together.

- (Ranger Hoof) I don't know...
- (Alex) Please, Ranger Hoof?

- (Gloria) Pretty please?
- (Melman) With dumplings on top?

(Ranger Hoof) All right but keep him
out of trouble and stay under the radar.

As soon as the ball drops, you head
back to the habitat for bedtime,

teeth brushed and stuffies
cuddled. Understood?

(Marty) Ma'am, yes, ma'am!

(Ranger Hoof) And
Happy New Year.

- (Marty) All right. Let's move!
- (Ant'ney) You kids go on without me.

Gina and Gino are
meeting me for dinner.

(all) Bye, Ant'ney!

(Ant'ney) Happy New Year
to me! It's dumpling time!

(Marty) You heard Ranger Hoof.

We gotta stay under the radar until
the ball drops, then straight home.

(Gloria) Sure you can
handle staying up this late?

(Alex) It's almost eleven. We
still have a whole hour to go.

(Melman) I can do it!
I am so not tired.

- (Gloria) Then why are your eyes closed?
- (Melman) Wait, what?

(snore)

Somebody help me keep them open!

(Alex) Oh, I know!

(clash)

(Melman) Thanks, Alex. I
feel more awake already!

(Marty) Hang on, I got this!

(horn)

(Melman) Great work, Marty.

No chance of me
falling asleep now.

(Alex) It's not working!

(Gloria) Oh, I have an idea!

You can't sleep if you
can't close your eyes!

(scream)

(Melman) Good...

(snore)

(Alex) C'mon, let's
give it all we got!

(ruckus)

(Melman) Pump the brakes!

All that noise is making
my ossicones spin!

How come I can't just
stay awake like you three?

It's not fair!

I just want to
see the ball drop!

(whimpering)

(Marty) Shh.

(whimpering)

(woman) Someone's up
past their bedtime.

(Gloria) Melman, you'll
get us in trouble.

(Alex) And Todd and Mary-Sue are heading
this way! Do I look camera ready?

(Marty) Remember what Ranger Hoof
said, we have to stay under the radar.

(Melman) I am under the radar.

(Marty) Uh oh. I think we're
about to get discovered.

(Alex) I've always wanted
to get discovered on TV!

(Gloria) Not like this, Alex!

We gotta keep a low profile
and get Melman out of here.

(Alex) Oh, right.

(whimpering)

(Marty) Hurry! They're
getting closer.

(Gloria) Come on,

- (Marty) Melman!
- (Murray) Millie! Look!

(whimpering)

(Millie) A TV camera!

(whimpering)

(sigh)

-(Gloria) That was close.
-(Marty) Too close! We gotta hide.

(Millie) Ma! Can you
see me? I'm on the TV!

(Murray) Don't eat all
your doggie treats.

- (Todd) Hmm.
- (Millie) Ma's our Basset Hound.

(Mary-Sue and Todd) Oh.

(mumbling)

(whimpering)

(subway announcer) The R train
to Central Park now boarding!

(Melman) But I'm...
not... tired!

(snoring)

(Marty) Phew. He's
finally asleep.

(Gloria) Poor
Melman. He's zonked.

(Alex) We gotta get him
back to the habitat.

(Marty) I'm sure the fireworks will
look just as good on Kate's TV.

(Melman) I just wanted
to see the ball drop...

(snoring)

(Melman) Whoa!

(Mary-Sue) It's almost
time for the countdown...

(Melman) It is?

Whoa! I'm way up high!

(Melman) I'm flying!

(Melman) Ugh! No!

(panting)

- Where am I?
- (Alex) You were having a nightmare.

-(Melman) What time is it? Did I miss it?
-(Marty) No,

it's a few minutes until
midnight. But we're headed home.

(Melman) Home? No. I'm
gonna see that ball drop!

(panting)

(Gloria) Melman! Stop!

(Todd) Welcome back, folks. We're
about to begin the countdown

to midnight here
in Times Square.

(laughing)

(Mary-Sue) Ten,
nine, eight...!

(Todd and Mary-Sue)
Seven, six...

(Melman) Gotta...
stay... awake.

(gasp)

(all) Five... four...

Three... two... one...

Happy... New... Year...

(snoring)

(gasp)

(Melman) Where am I? Hello?

(Lucia) Feliz año
nuevo, Melman!

You're looking well rested.

(yawn)

(Melman) Lucia?

What am I doing in your habitat?

(Lucia) Your friends
brought you home,

but this is as far as
they could carry you.

(Melman) Aw, no.

The ball dropped and
I missed all the fun.

(Lucia) Si... the ball
definitely dropped.

But I'm sure you
had some fun, no?

(Melman) Well, my
dumplings were delicious...

except they weren't
exactly mine,

so I got in trouble
with Ranger Hoof.

(Lucia) Oh!

But it had to be fun

being in the middle of
the action, am I right?

(Melman) Oh, yeah!
We were almost on TV,

in front of the whole world while
I was having a temper tantrum.

Come to think of it, I
didn't have any fun at all!

(Lucia) Aw, pobrecito.

A snow leopard in
Mongolia once told me,

"The best party in the
world isn't worth attending

if you're not feeling
your party-best."

(Melman) That sounds smart.

What does it mean?

(chuckle)

(Lucia) It means you
don't need to stay up late

to have a good time.

All you need is your amigos.

(Melman) But I started the
year on such a bad note.

Does this mean I'm going
to have a terrible year?

(Lucia) Of course not!

Every day is a new
chance to start fresh,

especially after a
good night's sleep.

(Melman) I hope you're right.
Guess I'll head back to the habitat

and wait to see the
ball drop next year.



Ouch!

(all) Surprise!

Huh?

(all) Happy New Year, Melman!
(Melman) What's all this for?

(Alex) We didn't want you to
miss out on another ball drop.

(Marty) So this year, we're
having our own ball drop!

(Gloria) Doesn't matter whether
it's midnight or morning,

if get to ring in the
new year together.

(Alex) And with some of
our favorite party animals.

(laughing)

(Melman) Everybody's here!

(Gina) Well, Gino, looks
like I just accomplished

my New Year's resolution:
Surprising a giraffe!

(laugh)

(Gino) Wouldn't ya know it, Gina,
that was my resolution, too!

(laugh)

(screeching)

(Alex) Melman, quick!

(Gloria) It's time
for the ball drop!

(all) Five, four, three...

(Melman) Counting
backwards is so much fun!

(all) One! Happy New Year!

(laughing)

(laughing)

(Alex) So, Melman, have you
decided on a New Year's resolution?

(Melman) My resolution is
to go to bed when I'm tired,

even if it means
missing out on some fun.

Because tired fun
is no fun at all.

(Gloria) That's a
great resolution.

(Melman) But for
now, I'm wide awake.

So, let's party!

(cheering)

(Ant'ney) See you kids soon!

What a great start to the year.

(Mary-Sue) Well, Todd, the city
sure mixed things up last night,

some New Yorkers are calling it

the most spectacular
ball drop of all time!

(Todd) I tell ya, Mary-Sue,

it was definitely
the most unexpected!

(Mary-Sue) Ten...

This whole time I thought
