MacGyver (1985–1992): Season 2, Episode 19 - Bushmaster - full transcript

A pilot is on trial for being a spy in a Central American country and MacGyver is sent to rescue him. Matters become complicated when MacGyver discovers the pilot's daughter has stowed away on the rescue mission.

Thanks.

You're welcome.

Jones and Taylor just got it.

How many guys have we got left?

Just you and me.

I think the best
route is due west

about a hundred yards.

MacGyver, I want to tell you

How much I appreciate
your being here.

Save it till we get that
little silver box back.

Here.

Just for insurance.

Pete, you know how I
feel about those things.

Yeah, I do, but you're
defenseless out here.

No, just weaponless.

Come on.

There it is.

The silver box is hidden
right under that bridge.

Uh-oh.

Looks like we've got company.

Maybe I can use
that rifle after all.

You're gonna use a rifle?

Absolutely.

What are you doing?

Gonna try and get his attention.

MacGyver, the last thing we need

is to bring him over here.

No, that's exactly
what we do need.

We just won't be
here to greet him.

Why don't you keep
watch while I do this?

Haven't see anybody else.

What's that?

Time delay fuse?

Yeah. Should draw
his attention over here.

While
we go to the bridge.

Right.

Good idea.

Let's go.

Diversion worked.

We're home free.

No, the timer worked.

We're not done yet.

Go ahead, I'll keep watch.

I guess you're right, Pete.

This was pretty easy.

Aah! I'm hit!

Pete?

Aah!

There goes the trophy again!

Hey, Jeff, I want
to talk to you!

Be back in a second.

Congratulations.

And it was nice
to meet you, Kelly.

Thanks. You weren't
so bad out there yourself.

Oh, boy, I've really
got to hand it to you.

Not only do you not come

to the competition this year,

but you end up winning.

- And with a ringer.
- You mean Kelly.

Yes, I mean Kelly.

Where'd you get her anyway?

She's Joe Henderson's kid.

Henderson? You
mean the Joe henderso?

The bushmaster champ?

Joe's the reason I
couldn't show up today.

What's the matter,
some kind of trouble?

Joe was on a cargo flight
for us to Panama City.

His plane went
down over San Perez.

Oh, no.

Is he dead?

No, he's okay.

They're calling him a spy, Pete.

They're holding
him for questioning.

Joe Henderson a spy?

That is ridiculous!

That's what I've been
telling the state department.

And?

And bureaucrats
got their own way

of dealing with things. Slow.

It's just I can't hold off
telling Kelly any longer.

Mr. Moore,

didn't I tell you we'd get it?

Didn't I tell you, Mr. Moore?

You sure did, Kelly.

It's just great.

My dad is gonna flip
when he sees this.

Yeah, you bet he is.

Uh, look, there's something

I need to talk to
you about, Kelly.

You should hear her
talk about that trophy.

Yeah. Well, she's got
something more important

to think about now.

What about diplomatic channels?

Have you exhausted them?

I've pulled every chain
in the state department.

That country down
there just won't budge.

Joe's being used as a scapegoat.

They're planning
a trial in two days

Followed by an execution.

Oh, nice.

Really nice.

I want my man back home, Pete.

I didn't build this company
by sitting on a sofa

waiting for bureaucrats
to push paper.

I need your help

in putting together
a crack rescue team.

Come here.

There it is.

There's your rescue team.

Kelly!

Honey, you shouldn't
be workin' here now.

Why don't you go on home?

But haven't you
found out anything yet?

Are they gonna let my dad go?

Well, the state department's
still making some inquiries,

But I think we're getting
real close to a solution.

I thought you cared
about your employees.

About my dad.

Be patient.

I'm working on it.

Now go on home, huh?

Well, here's the aerial map

and the reconnaissance
information

For San Perez.

You know,

I can see MacGyver's way in,

but how's he gonna get out

when the job is done?

Well, the chopper'll
pick you up here...

Section h, 0800 hours, day two.

Who's my contact on the inside?

Lieutenant Raul parra.

He's gonna be acting
as public defender

for Henderson's trial.

He's gonna meet
you at a little church

At the edge of town
tomorrow at 2100 hours.

How well does the
pilot know the area?

Don't worry about him.

He's our best man.

One question.

Shoot!

You've got a dozen
pilots on your payroll.

Why you?

Never could keep my
spoon out of the broth.

Three minutes to
San Perez, section c.

Almost time for the green light.

Better get ready.

I'll see ya soon.

Not soon enough, partner.

Go get him, huh?

Any time you're ready...

What are you doing here?

Relax. I'm just leavin'.

What kind of stunt do you think

you were playin' up there?

Do you realize you
could have killed yourself?

Relax. I know what I'm doing.

I've been trained in this.

Now the first thing we got
to do is chart our distance

To the border of
the military zone.

No, the first thing
we're gonna do is

get an explanation from you.

Okay, here it is...
I'm saving my dad.

I've got it all planned out.

Did it ever occur to you

that maybe the rest
of us had a plan, too?

And that you're comin'
along messes everything up?

Me mess things up?

I overheard you guys talking.

You don't even have a gun.

I've got tear gas, combat knife,

nine millimeter
automatic, and ten clips.

Kelly, this isn't a game.

People down here don't come
back to life when you blow a whistle.

I know that.

Just want my dad back.

That's what we all want.

But you being here
doesn't make it any easier.

I can take care of myself.

That's what worries me.

Guess I don't have a
choice, though, do I?

No. Come on,
you're wastin' time.

Kelly?

You're goin' the wrong way.

Cuánto para dos?

Uno sesenta.

¿Bien?

Si. Gracias.

Colonel, I'm
lieutenant Raul parra.

Welcome, lieutenant.

I understand you
have been appointed

by the central government

to represent the
American in court.

That's correct, sir.

Good.

Traigan a Henderson.

I've been told there's
no real proof of his guilt.

The problem is being
corrected as we speak.

Classified documents have
been planted in his plane.

Please have a
seat, Mr. Henderson.

I would like you to
meet the public defender

who's been assigned
to represent you.

Let's not play any games.

No one's going to defend me.

I know I'm innocent,
you know I'm innocent,

So get on with whatever
it is you're fishing for.

Well, I do have a proposition
you might consider.

Thought you might.

Please sit.

Since the coup two months ago,

we've all been
under the scrutiny

Of our new government.

They want you tried and
found guilty by tomorrow,

and the crimes for which
you have been charged

Carry a mandatory
death sentence.

There is an alternative.

What kind of alternative?

If you were to give us
a videotaped confession

before the trial, our government
will reduce your sentence

to no more than
20 years in prison.

But I didn't do anything.

That is not the issue
any longer, is it?

You have till tomorrow
morning to decide.

Encierrenlo.

You know, this is a lot
easier than I expected.

I thought we'd be dodging
bullets in the jungle,

And instead, we're taking
a nice little cruise into town.

I think the cruise just ended.

I hope I'm wrong,
but it looks like

the police are going
to check the bus.

Sometimes, they grab people
who don't have the right papers.

Sometimes, they shoot 'em.

Get your passport ready.

I don't have a passport.

You what?!

I don't have a passport.

Quick, sneak out the back door.

Hide until they're
done checking here.

Por favo,

Tengo una familia,
tengo tres hijos.

Por favor, no me
maten, no me maten.

Esto es UN puesto militar.

¿Alguien tiene
algo que reportar?

Hmm?

Bajense todos del autobus.

Vamos. Pronto. Bene.

Deme su papellas pronto, pronto.

Americano.

Si. Buenos día.

I like Americans.

Nice hat.

Let me see your passport.

What is your business
here in San Perez?

Tourist.

We have no tourism to
speak of in San Perez.

What are you really doing here?

¿Qué va a pasar con ellos?

Si, si, si, me maten,

ellos Van a morir De hambre.

Por favor, piensen
en mis hijos...

Come on, Kelly,
get down, get down!

Hold it, hold it, hold it!

It's a misunderstanding.

Big misunderstanding.

Now, why were
you hiding from us?

She lost her passport.
She was scared.

That's why she was hiding.

Let me see.

Tear gas.

Hmm.

Mini flares.

Ammunition.

Everything a tourist needs.

It seems you have good
reason to be scared.

Americans get no
special treatment

under the new regime...

Including revolutionaries.

We're not revolutionaries.

I mean, we're...

Please go on.

I said go on.

Habla.

Come on, we don't need that...

Sir, the weapons are mine.

Leave him alone!

Very noble,
but you should be

concerned about your own fate.

Down on your knees.

Now!

Yeah!

Los americanos se escaparon.

Díganselo a los ostros.

You're lucky that soldier
didn't shoot you back there.

I figured, "what would dad do?"

He's quite a guy, huh?

I'll never be that
great, for sure.

Do you have to be?

This place gives me the creeps.

Where is everybody?

Well, the military must
have moved 'em out,

centralized the
people to control 'em.

Where's my dad?

Up there.

What are we waiting for?

We have to hide until dark.

Why?

My contact.

I'm going to meet
him at the church

on the edge of
town at 2100 hours.

Until then, we stay put.

Hungry?

I guess I left my
rations with my passport.

No problem.

So, you and your dad
are pretty tight, huh?

Mm-hmm. He's my mom and my dad.

See, my mom died
right after I was born.

Any brothers or sisters?

No. I guess I'm his
daughter and his son.

Which one of you is
here to rescue him?

Two Americans
smuggling weapons

escaped past your
checkpoint, sergeant?

Yes, sir, but our forces
are spread so thin...

Are you making excuses?

They will be caught and
executed immediately, sir.

Colonel, if I may suggest,

you might want to
put them on trial first.

They could be part
of a rescue operation.

What do you mean?

Exposing a U.S. rescue attempt

Could further prove
Henderson is a spy.

The central government
would be very pleased.

Yes. That's a very good idea.

Put every available
man on the search.

Find them and bring them to me.

And, sergeant?

Get rid of that cap!

Yes, sir.

Where's that contact of yours?

Ah, we're a little early.

MacGyver?

You must be lieutenant...

Parra.

Buenas noches.

How's my father?

He's injured his leg,
but he's well otherwise.

Is he going to be able to
make it to the pickup point?

He'll have to.

All the roads will be blocked

now that colonel Salazar
knows you are here.

It was my understanding
you were coming alone.

Mine, too.

Getting one of
you inside the compound

Will be risky enough.

I'm afraid you can't come.

Who are you to say I
can't rescue my own father?

Kelly, shh!

I thought we had
an orchestrated plan.

She's about to
get us all killed.

Kelly, he's right. You
have to stay behind.

No! You're not
going to ditch me here

- like some kid!
- Shh!

Give me a minute
alone with her, will you?

Kelly... you can't come.

That's the end of it.

I just want my dad back.

I know how much you
want to rescue him,

and believe me, I don't
want to leave you here alone,

but this is the
only way to do it.

You don't understand, MacGyver.

I want to show him
that I can be just like...

Just like...

A son?

Did he say that to you?

That he wanted a son?

He didn't have to.

That's an awful lot
to assume, isn't it?

Maybe I am trying
to prove something,

But I want him to be safe.

That's first.

Okay, I'll stay behind.

Thanks.

We'll get him back.

Lieutenant...

So, is everything
still on schedule?

Perfectly.

Raise your hands.

Move.

Chocolate.

You can keep that if you'd like.

Listen, I hope you didn't
take what happened

back at the
roadblock personally.

I guess you did.

Get away from that!

Go on!

Get outta here!

Hey, there's no
more room in here.

Two's enough,

And that one's trying
to steal my dinner.

Well, believe me,

I don't want to be here
any longer than I have to.

Who are you?

The name's MacGyver.

I'm here to help you escape.

Sure you are.

No, it's true.

Your boss Jeff
Moore dropped me off.

He's got a chopper waiting

as soon as my inside contact
gets things rolling for us.

Mr. Moore organized this?

He sent one man to
get me past an army?

Yeah.

Unfortunately, we have
a little unsolicited help.

Your daughter's waiting
on the outside, too.

Outside? Where?

Shh... just take
it easy, will you?

She's all right as
long as she stays put.

She's at the church.

That's crazy.

Kelly here in San Perez? Why?

I don't know.

That might be something
you want ask her.

So when the Americans
contacted you, you played along

as if you were to help
with their escape plan?

That's correct, sir.

The central
government ordered me

to remain secret about
it as a security measure.

What happened to the girl?

I never saw her. He was alone.

Then she's still out there.

Yes, but the rescue
attempt failed.

Henderson must be
very demoralized by this,

Easy to manipulate, perhaps.

Yes.

Now is the time to
obtain that confession.

Excellent thinking, sir.

Speak to your clients.

I will clear the
path into the cell.

As you wish, sir.

Find the girl before there's
another rescue attempt.

We cannot spare any
more men to search, colonel.

Do as I say.

Compensate for the lack
of men however you have to.

I want more security.

Are you all right?

Yeah, we're fine.

Everything still on schedule?

Yes, but Salazar
is getting nervous.

We haven't much time.

What's the plan?

We only have one
chance to break you out.

The guard outside will start
to walk on his rounds at dawn.

As soon as he
leaves, I'll drop a pouch

of plastique explosive
through the window...

Oh, wait a minute.

I don't know about plastique.

The noise is liable to attract

more soldiers
than we can handle.

Uh...

Got a kitchen in this complex?

A refrigerator?

I have a small
refrigerator in my quarters.

That's great.

Look in the back and
find the compressor.

Follow the coil down to
the canister of freon gas.

Wait, slow down.

Uh, follow the
coil down to what?

All right, uh, wait a minute.

Um, first find the compressor.

It's the motorized pump in the
back that makes all the noise.

There's a coiled metal
tube attached to it.

I understand. Continue.

All right.

Follow that coil down
to a small canister

that contains freon gas.

Crimp both ends of that canister

so the gas doesn't leak out.

Cut it off and bring it to me.

What're you gonna
use the freon for?

Gonna break the lock.

Quietly.

Um... uh...

Whoa, excuse me.

Um, hello?

We could sure use all the
fresh air we can get in here.

You are lucky to be
breathing at all, señor.

We take no more chances now.

Now how're we gonna
get that freon gas in here?

I don't know.

Hey, come on, MacGyver,
you're not gonna catch that rat.

We've been at it for hours.

Well, look at it this way.

He's getting just
as tired as we are.

Gotcha!

MacGyver...

Can you knock a board out?

Nah, it's too noisy.

Just like the plastique.

Go around back.

You'll get a little visitor
through the drain pipe.

Time for your big escape.

You think there's enough
freon to freeze the lock?

I'll tell you when it's empty.

Should do it?

Yeah, should shatter
like a piece of glass.

I hope.

Do it... the guard's
coming back.

Come on.

Report this to captain
barbero. Y pronto.

You okay?

Yeah, getting
better all the time.

Daddy.

We're gonna be all right, honey.

I thought I told you
to stay in the church.

I couldn't. They
came looking for you.

I was worried you
wouldn't come back.

Shh. All right, all right.

We gotta go.

You all right?

Okay, come on.

Hold up.

Leg's gone, huh?

Not much left.

Why don't we check
that map in Kelly's pack?

Yeah.

What time is that chopper
gonna meet us again?

0800 hours on the other side
of the San morro river gorge.

I'll never make it
there on foot in time.

Yeah, well, the road's
bound to be blocked...

But that railway line won't be.

But we don't have a train.

I know where to get one.

What do you say?

The Americans have escaped!

How long ago?

There is no way of telling.

What have you done about this?

I searched the compound,
but found nothing, sir.

Then I came directly here.

While they continue to escape?!

Colonel, please!

The Gauge of a train track
in the United States

matches the wheel base of my
own Jeep, give or take an inch.

This Jeep looked
the same as mine,

And the tracks outside
were a close match.

None of that mattered,
of course, if I couldn't

Get the engine runnin.

Well, getting the engine going
didn't seem to be a problem.

But keeping it
going just might be.

Radiator's bone dry.

And my guess was
a few bullet holes

had something to do with that.

Sometimes I just
hate it when I'm right.

I had to find some way
to plug up this radiator

if we were ever
gonna get out of here.

There're times you can't
do a job all by yourself.

What I needed was a
little help from the locals...

Local chickens, that is.

Stay.

Were you ever sorry you
had me instead of a son?

I never wanted a son, Kelly.

Whatever gave you that idea?

All that sports stuff.

I mean, bushmaster,
I don't know.

Well, you seemed to
enjoy it all so much that I...

I enjoyed it because I
thought you wanted me to.

Well, to tell you the truth,

I never knew how
to raise a daughter.

I was just doing
the best I could.

Kelly, I wouldn't want
you any other way.

Egg whites are good
for a lot of things.

Lemon meringue
pie, angel food cake

and plugging up radiators.

The idea is, the boiling
water in the radiator

will cook the eggs and they'll
temporarily clog the holes...

That is if the
holes aren't too big.

I guess MacGyver was right.

I was trying to prove something

I didn't need to.

Think we've both
been doing that?

Kelly, open the gate.

Let's go, Joe.

You all right?

I'm okay.

We'll cross the
bridge in a mile or so.

Pickup point's just beyond that.

How's the time?

About five minutes.

We're not through yet!

What do we do?

Joe, keep your foot
on the accelerator.

Kelly, switch places with me.

Now what're you doing?

Trying to slow up our friends.

I think we'll be using

That arsenal of
yours after all, Kelly.

There's the bridge!

Either of you got a match?

Huh? No.

I need something
to light this fuse.

They're getting closer,
MacGyver.

Hurry!
We're almost there.

Got it!

Okay!

Look, the chopper!

Well, it looks like your
boss is right on time.

You did it,
MacGyver! You did it!

No, we all did it.

Are you sure Joe and
Kelly are gonna meet us here for dinner?

Take it easy, they'll
get here any minute.

I'll get you to that
steak house on time.

Believe him, Pete.

He wasn't a minute
late with that chopper.

Ah, just a little
pickup and delivery.

You know, business as usual.

You know, I heard this morning

colonel Salazar
has fled the country.

Looks like San Perez is gonna
have a new government soon.

Yeah, we did a good
job of it, didn't we, guys?

We weren't the only ones.

Sorry we're late.

Had to do a few things.

Well, now wait a minute.

Hold on.

Look at this
beautiful young lady.

Actually, my dad
bought it for me.

Does this mean you're
not gonna play bushmaster

with us again next year?

Well...

It's entirely up to Kelly.

Oh, yeah?

Including which
team she plays for?

Yes.
