Kindred Spirits (2016–…): Season 4, Episode 13 - The Body Box - full transcript

The morro castle caught fire
and beached right here.

I hear the footsteps
running down the hallway.

This shadow thing was heavy.

All dead.

We caught something
on the dvr in that same area.

Third row up.

ooh!

Whatever you're looking at,

not the whole story's
been told yet.

When it stopped,
was there anyone alive on that boat still?

No.

What do you want?

I want to know
if you died on the ship.

My neck's broken.

The dead want a voice.

We just want to help
this family.

The living need our help.

Have you always been here?

He was watching already.

so here we are

at the paramount theatre
in asbury park.

This legendary building

was built along the jersey shore
in the 1930s

and helped secure
asbury park's reputation

as new jersey's premier
tourist destination.

Yeah, I mean,
it's a huge complex, really,

'cause you have
the paramount theatre itself,

and then there's an arcade
in the middle

with a bunch of shops.

Now, on the other side is
the convention hall. Yeah.

And on the other side of that
is the actual beach.

we are meeting jason,

and jason's the technical
director of the space.

He and his crew
have experienced activity

inside the paramount
for a number of years.

They have a lot of activity.

They see shadows in the space,
hear voices.

People have been scratched,
been pushed.

Then, of course, you know,
the morro castle,

which is that
ship-fire catastrophe

that happened right here on
the back side of this building.

The ss morro castle
was a luxury ocean liner

making trips from havana, cuba,
to new york during the 1930s.

On its 174th voyage,

just hours away
from its final destination,

the ship caught fire
and was engulfed in flames,

killing most of its passengers.

It eventually beached itself
outside of the paramount theatre

September 8, 1934.

So it's the
85th anniversary today,

and I'm wondering
if that's gonna create

any kind of heightened energy
in the space.

And maybe there's deaths
that happened here

that they don't even know about.

Well, I think
he's waiting on us.

Let's go in and see what happens.
Yeah, see what's going on.

We're the first paranormal team
that's come here

and been granted
this kind of access.

So who knows what these spirits
are going to say or do

after we've been here
for a few days.

Yeah.

- hey, adam.
- Hi.

- Good to see you again.
- I'm amy.

- Pleasure.
- Good to meet you.

- Yeah, let's go in.
- Take a look inside.

This is different.

Yeah, this is awesome.

Love it.

Thank you.

- Beautiful.
- Gosh, what a gorgeous theater.

It was opened on new year's day
of 1930

with a showing of
howard hughes' "wings,"

and they did a grand opening
July 4th of 1930

with the marx brothers.

I mean, this was on
the vaudeville circuit.

This was a big stop.
Correct, yeah.

So much history.

- Yeah.
- That's amazing.

And has it always been
in operation that whole time?

There was about a 10-year period
where it was mostly dark.

Asbury park went through
some really troubling times

in the '70s, '80s,
even well into the '90s

where it was just
sporadically open.

Wow.
Yeah, the stage.

The inner workings.
Yeah.

And a pretty healthy
performance space

for a theater as old as it is.

Can we raise that curtain?

Of course.

Okay.
That's a big.

That's a big space.

My god.

This is incredible.

Yeah, it's amazing.

Obviously we're here for,
yes, the history,

but we're also here for

the paranormal activity
that's happening here.

Have you ever had
any experiences?

The main activity we get up top.

If you look all the way
in the back

where the projection booth is.

In the late 1960s, there was
a projectionist that passed away

sometime towards the end
of a Sunday night performance.

You swear someone's looking down
on you from up there.

Do you ever see, like,
shadows walking through here?

Definitely second-floor balcony.

Definitely some shadows,

generally coming
from left to right.

And again, some people have had
a cleaner view of that.

Wow.
I just noticed

one of our other little randoms
that I forgot about.

The lights
on this perimeter here,

they're all on one circuit.

And if you saw, that one
was turning on and off

separate from the rest of them.
I saw it, I saw it.

And it'll be random.
It won't just be that one.

That one will do it one day.
That one will do it.

Then we won't see it
for a while.

Do you find that a lot
of activity that you have

centers around the work
that you do?

I seem to think it's centered

around what goes on
in the theater.

Again, you know,
some unfortunate incidences.

You know, and then there's
a lot of people

that will attribute
what they see and feel in here

to the morro castle.

A large shipwreck
came and beached

right outside this building.

What a tragedy.
And we're close.

It was like 300 yards. We're about
300 feet from where that happened.

And this stage basically
became a makeshift morgue

for the morro castle disaster,

which today
is an anniversary of that.

when you have something so
traumatic close to a facility,

I mean, that could leave
some weird energy behind.

Is there any other activity
in this area that we should --

not so much in this area here.

Once we get up into the
dressing rooms and that area...

Yeah.
Yeah, let's check that out.

...Definite activity
up that way.

so as we get down
to the end here,

not only are the rooms
unrestored,

but I do not have working
electric down here.

God.
Wow.

So what happened in here,
exactly?

So there was a fire
that happened late 1950s.

It was during a show

and trapped two girls
in this room, no way out.

And that girls died
of smoke inhalation.

What activity happens in here?

Definite shadows, definitely
a feeling of presence.

The security guards won't
come up here in this hallway,

and there's a couple of guys
that'll insist

that they hear the elevator
going up and down at night.

Most of the theater staff,

like those of us that work in
the production end of things,

have all caught one thing
or another.

Okay, well...

Where else should we go
in the building?

I think we should take a walk
over to the convention center.

Alright.
Well, we'll follow you.

Yeah, yeah.

so this was built
at the same time as the theater?

This was all built
at the same time.

This opened a little bit later,

but all the construction
was going on simultaneously.

What kind of activity
happens in here?

People have definitely said
apparitions, things going on,

things going off,
toilets flushing,

just, you know, odd noises

that they just -- they can't
explain away as, like,

"it was just marco
over there."

So you clearly have an
appreciation for the building,

you've spent a lot of time here.
You've had experiences here.

What are you hoping
that we're able to accomplish?

I'd love to know
more of what's here.

Is it energy
from the morro castle?

Is it spirits of somebody?

You know,
and on top of all that,

just to know that, like,
everyone that comes to the building

is safe, you know,
from whatever goes on.

- Yeah, for sure. Alright.
- Okay.

Jason said that people
are seeing shadow figures.

There's things here that are
messing with their equipment.

They hear footsteps.

They think there's a man

who possibly passed away
up in the projection room.

We have to verify the things
that are happening factually

so that we can figure out

if they are linked
to this building.

amy and I are meeting
with two of jason's employees

who have firsthand experience

of whatever's
haunting this theater.

Hopefully they can give us more
insight as to who might be here.

So what happened to you,
exactly?

Right behind this wall here,

up came out of the floor was
a shadow that went up the wall

and then over top of us,
went across us.

The temperature
instantly dropped.

And went through that wall.

After it went through that wall,

about maybe 30 seconds
to a minute later,

one of our other employees,
he had come down.

He said he got touched.
Really?

Like, something grabbed him.
Wow. Okay.

What time of year was this?
Time of year.

So it was like
the anniversary of the --

like, just around the anniversary...
Around that time, yeah.

...Which is crazy.

You've had some experiences.
Yes, I did.

So tell me what happened.

As I was coming down
the stairs here,

I got down like maybe
about a quarter way to the end.

And all of a sudden
it was like, whoa,

something burned me, like, type.

I looked at my arm like,
"I've been scratched."

and soon as I said that
right there,

it was like a light --

it wasn't a hard shove.
It was like a push shove.

Okay.
Like, that was it.

I, like, looked back towards
the back of the building here.

And I just like looked, and I
would see, like, black shadows.

Like, something just moved
right across the wall.

Up top.
Up top and back and forth here.

Like, freaked me out
a little bit.

Were they the size
of, like, people?

They were, like, the same size
of -- yes, they were.

Okay.

Have you had other experiences
in the building?

I was taking a shower one night
in the dressing room,

and I just hear the sound
of giggling,

little girls giggling.
Yeah.

I walk out to the hallway.

I hear the footsteps
running down the hallway,

the banging, and the giggling,
but I don't see anything.

Interesting.

If you had to guess
who you thought

was in each of these buildings,
what's your best guess?

It would have to be the people
who were from the morro castle,

believe it or not.
Okay. Alright.

Who do you think is haunting
this building?

Depends on where you're at.

If you go up to
the dressing-room floor,

that's that unfortunate fire
in there.

I believe two girls
had passed away in that.

If you're in here,
after the boat fire,

this room and the basement here
were an infirmary and a morgue.

Maybe that adds to such a heavy
mass, big black thing.

this is one of those places
where there's a lot of stories

about tragedies that happened
in the theater itself.

We can already confirm
that the morro castle disaster

absolutely happened
on this beach.

But some of these other stories
coming out,

we need to firmly figure out
if that actually happened,

because that's not
just for them,

but that's for the sake
of any spirits involved

or the memory of people
who may be involved.

jason and his employees

have left adam and I alone
in this building.

So tonight, we will be
the first-ever paranormal team

granted access to this space
from sundown to sunup.

Okay, so -- plan of action.

I mean, do we start looking --

like, there's a lot of shadow
action, it sounds like.

So maybe if we just sit up here,

like, get a couple chairs out
and just look out

and bring out the laser grid

and hold a handycam
at the same time.

Yeah, that'll work.
Yeah.

That was great.
Okay.

I think we are
very, very fortunate

to be in this space
during the 85th anniversary

of a tragedy
that happened on the shore.

I mean, they say a lot of
the activity in this building

is connected to that.

We're gonna try to make contact
with anybody

that may know anything
about the morro castle disaster

or anything associated
with this theater.

so these green dots are going to
let us see you better.

we're looking for those
who are nonliving.

Maybe you had an accident.

Do you remember that?

we heard that on this day

there was a fire on a ship.

Do you know anything about that?

someone up there?

My holy god.

There was probably one of
the clearest shadow figures

I have ever seen.

Wait.

Did you hear a door slam?
Yeah. Yeah.

Or like a door creaked open.

Went out the door.
It went out the door.

We're here at the
historic paramount theatre

in asbury park,
where, 85 years ago,

one of the largest
maritime disasters occurred

right outside its doors.

My holy god.

I have full-body chills.
What?

Because under the red sign,
right where that bar is...

Yeah.
...It looked like...

A shadow went right to left
but arch,

as if something went over.

Like, jumped over.

That was probably one of
the clearest shadow figures

I have ever seen.

went out the door.
It went out the door.

there's nobody else here.

I think we need to go look
for that noise.

This way, right?

This is where
the shadow figure that I saw.

Right here.

could it be any of these doors?

that kind of sounds like it.

And you know what?
If somebody were to, like,

get it to come open --

or these.

that.

Honestly, that sounds like it
more than anything.

So weird.

it's so freaky to me right now

'cause I feel like at any moment
I'm gonna see...

Somebody just, like, sitting.

okay, let's do an evp session.

hello.
Who's up here with us?

we thought we saw someone
running through here.

can you tell us
what your name is?

Can you tell us
what you're doing here?

did you come here on that ship?

how long have you been here?

let's listen to this.
Maybe this picked it up.

Hello.
Who's up here with us?

Right down there.

We thought we saw someone
running through here.

Can you tell us
what your name is?

Can you tell us
what you're doing here?

Did you come here on that ship?

how long have you been here?

it's quiet up here right now.

I mean, clearly whatever's here
is not responding to anything.

I so wanted something massive
to happen.

Just nothing.

I think we should regroup
and figure out where to go next.

We each saw a shadow figure
of some sort up on the balcony.

And then suddenly
we were hearing doors slam

and gates rattle.

Then we heard a male voice.

All of that happened together.

But other than that, we didn't
get a lot of interaction.

But this place, we don't know

that it's been investigated
a whole lot.

So next stop is research
and we focus on the shipwreck.

kathy kelly
is a local historian.

She has been studying up
on the paramount theatre

and the morro castle disaster
for a number of years.

It's a big historical moment
in asbury park.

We just need to make sure
we do our due diligence here

and work as hard as we can
to get a firm answer for jason

and everyone in this town.

So I brought you
a newspaper from the day after

the morro castle
actually beached here.

And what's interesting
about this

is not only the list
of the victims,

and there were a lot
still missing,

but it was still burning.
Yeah.

It took five days for
the asbury park fire department

to put the fire out enough
for people to go on there.

Okay.
And at this point,

they already knew
it was 182 lives.

That's a lot of dead people.

So last night,

we caught something on the dvr
in that same area.

It's very quick.

In the seat, third row up.

ooh!

We're here at the
historical society in asbury park.

And the details
regarding this tragedy

paint an even more
gruesome picture

than we could ever imagine.

At this point, they
already knew it was 182 lives.

That's a lot of dead people.

This was massive news,
worldwide news.

In addition to being
this huge news thing,

it was a huge financial boon.

Wow.
So that's a pressed penny.

My gosh, of the actual ship.

No way.
Of the actual ship.

I also brought you
some postcards.

You know, this was produced
within a week.

It actually became the biggest
tourist attraction

that asbury park ever had.

You have 20,000 people every day

watching what's going on.

This was such a huge deal

that it was the beginning
of the garden state parkway.

I mean,
it changed our road systems. Wow.

And these are actually
family photos, though.

Someone came in
and gave those to me.

Off in the distance coming in.

They're waiting for it.

Yeah, because the radio
broadcast told them to.

The deejay, he was
in the convention hall.

There's a lot of people
saying to us

that bodies from this
were brought into the theater

and the convention hall.

Right.
Is that true?

When they came in
to salvage the ship,

they took skeletal remains out,
they took ashes out.

And those things got brought
into both the convention hall

and the paramount.

When it actually, like, stopped,

was there anyone alive
on that boat still?

No.

When they were finally able
to go in and photograph it,

I mean, there were no
intact bodies there,

and there were people
literally sleeping,

like, literally in their beds.

It's so sad reading through
all those names.

There were so many kids
and stuff.

I just can't even imagine.

Well, thank you.
You're very welcome.

You've definitely enlightened us
quite a big on this tragedy.

What's really great is
this is tangible information.

So this is something
that we know that happened

right outside the paramount.

We're at the anniversary of
the disaster, 85 years later.

And we can use all
of this information,

and maybe they will reach out
and talk to us

and know
what we're talking about.

so I reviewed the dvr
from last night,

and I know that you and I
both had that crazy experience

seeing the shadow up
in the mezzanine. Yeah.

And then we tried to chase it
down and couldn't find it.

So last night,

we caught something on the dvr
in that same area.

And it looks really interesting,
and it only happened once.

It's very quick.

In the seat, third row up.

ooh!
Isn't that weird?

Interesting about it
is it's behind these seats.

Yeah.
And then right here,

there's, like, two eyes
almost looking toward --

that's wild.

Okay, if it were, like,
a bug or something,

it would be
in front of the seat.

This is behind the actual seats.

Like, there's no way
that's a reflection

of something that small
from that far away.

Basically, we caught what
we were experiencing last night.

Yeah, and what they've
been experiencing.

They all say they see shadows
move around up there.

Definitely some shadows,

generally coming
from left to right.

Like, we can experience what
they experience all day long,

but until we get some sort
of identifiable evidence

from whoever is here...

I'm pretty sure
the place is haunted.

But it's a matter of
figuring out who is haunting it.

Yeah.

Alright, well, I feel like
we should start investigating.

Should we start
in the dressing room?

Yeah, let's head up there,
'cause I have

some really crazy information
to share with you in that space.

alright, so...

there are 12 dressing rooms
in this hallway.

Right.

There's this one right here,
which is damaged, right?

There's this one
that is damaged.

Damaged, right.
Looks like smoke damage.

Yep. This one,
getting less.

Less damage.

this one, virtually none.

so I uncovered a news article,

the only news article
that talks about a fire here.

Right.
And it happened in 1986.

But they were ultimately able
to extinguish the blaze

before there were any --
there was extensive damage

or injuries or death, anything.

So I asked the fire department
for help on this.

And the fire marshal was like,
"there was no fire here

that resulted
in any deaths ever."

this particular soul

that I've got contact
with right now...

Right.

...Has not communicated
with anyone before.

We're at the legendary
paramount theatre.

And amy has just uncovered
some information

that eliminates
one of our leads.

There was no fire here that
resulted in any deaths ever.

interesting.

And then I'm trying to think
of the activity, though.

Maybe something happened
in this space.

But no one died in this building
as a result of a fire.

the fire chief said to me,

"well, the owners know
what happened here, right?"

I don't think they did.
And I said,

"no, I think they think
there was a fire."

yeah, I think it's
because of the stories

that people are telling.

alright, well, it doesn't mean
there's no one here.

True.

Maybe we try to reach out,
see if anything happens.

Whoever's in this room with us,

do you know anything
about a shipwreck?

it was right out here
on the water.

If you were on the ship, can you
tell us what your name is?

The more you talk,
we can talk back.

We can have actual conversations

if you want to talk to us
or tell us anything.

right, well, I'm gonna listen.
We'll see if you talked to us.

how is it this quiet?
I don't know.

Might be time to go
across the way

where the actual ship washed up.

Sure.
Let's get chip in here, too.

Yeah, I think I want to see
what chip picks up

over there especially.

And then maybe we can do
some experiments with him

and see what turns up.

We're getting some evidence.

But once we try talking,
nothing.

You'd think that with
all these tragedies

that have supposedly
happened here,

someone would try to reach out.

So we're bringing chip
into the case.

We don't want to clue him into
exactly where he is right away.

So we're gonna take him
right out to near the ocean

and see if he gets
some sort of sense

of maybe the shipwreck
that happened

or anything else that may
have happened on the beach

that we don't even know about.

Once he's gotten kind of
a read on the water,

we'll take him through
to the theater itself.

what are you getting?

There's calls for help.

And there's no help.

There's no way to help.

is there something to do
with someone being in the water?

Like, something with a body
or bodies in the water.

Okay.

And it's horrible.

just a little further.

I feel this real sense
of helplessness.

it's so different.

It's what I'm hearing her say --
"it's so different."

how did she see it
for the first time?

I watched it all.

whatever you're looking at,

not the whole story's
been told yet.

I'm, like -- goose bumps.

Yeah.

Can you get, like,
a date out of her,

like, how long she's been here?

It's been a while.

This particular soul that I've
got contact with right now...

Right.

...Has not communicated
with anyone before.

Okay.

Any names.

There's a "c."

"c" name.

Clara, cora, claire,
something "c."

there's a "c."
okay.

talk to her near the water.

Yeah.
Alright, that was our plan.

Yeah, that was our plan.
Talk to her near the water.

Okay.

Well, we do have
other places to go.

Yeah. So maybe we'll
just go back up this way.

Yeah. Sounds good.

Okay.

Okay.

my gosh.

Yeah.

you just are dealing
with multiple things.

This is another something.

Okay.

Um...

They're sisters.

How old?

Teens or 20s.

there was just an image that
went down this aisle right here.

Did you not get into
the lifeboat?

It wasn't free.

We're investigating
the historic paramount theatre,

the site of the
ss morro castle tragedy,

and now chip is
sensing something new.

They're just kind of having --

they're having a lark.
They're having fun.

It's kind of funny, but
they're having fun being ghosts.

I hear the footsteps
running down the hallway,

the banging, and the giggling,
but I don't see anything.

Weird. Okay.

They're just having ghost fun.

So they are fully aware
of their current situation.

Yeah.

Anything else in the space?
There's one other place.

Okay.

Okay.

just want to see
if you got anything up here.

still picking up the girls.

Okay.

And a real vague something
with a man.

But I don't know
what that's all about.

Okay.

He isn't even really talking.

I just feel the energy
of a man...

That may be nondescript.

Have you picked stuff up
up here?

Basically, like,
you know, shadow figures.

It's like -- yeah,
we've seen lots of shadows up here.

We see a shadow.
Really?

I saw one of the clearest
shadow figures.

But again, like, no names,
no information.

Interesting.

He did say some things
that sort of went along

with the morro castle disaster.

He said there was a bunch
of bodies in the water.

He also picked up on
a female name, a "c" name.

So we can use
all this information

and see if we can finally
get some communication,

specifically now
with this individual,

with this woman, to find out
if she was on that ship

and to tell her story.

so tonight we're bringing chip
into the investigation.

Being in such a large space,

we definitely need
a third investigator

with this experiment
that we want to do.

This is one of those instances
where sometimes activity

seems to be connected
between locations.

And so we're gonna see
if that works in this case,

'cause it's worked
for us before.

We didn't fill you in on this,

but there was
an enormous shipwreck.

I think there were like
almost 500 people on board,

and 200 people died.

Wow.
It was massive.

That's massive.

And so some of their bodies

were brought into the theater
and the convention hall

as sort of like
a makeshift morgue,

and that that has led
to the haunting here.

So the idea here is we want
to do an experiment

with the spirit box,
'cause we found in the past

that sometimes locations
are linked,

like when we did that experiment
at the crocker tavern

where I went to the train tracks
and adam stayed in the house.

And so we're doing something
kind of like that.

Adam's gonna be
in the convention hall

radio broadcast spot.

You're gonna be in the theater.

I'll be out on the beach.

We're just gonna be
listening to the spirit box.

We won't hear what
the questions are

'cause he's gonna ask them
over the walkie,

and we're just gonna say
whatever we hear.

If something is listening

that knows
what we're talking about,

activity can spike
at any moment.

So it's like paying attention
to your surroundings,

including myself, you know,

and communicating that.

I'm eager to see
what chip picks up on

just because we've had
such kind of slight activity.

But I also want to get over

to where the shipwreck
actually happened.

I think that might
have something to do

with what they see here
in the theater.

we're gonna begin, so if you
could put the headphones on.

You're not gonna be able to hear
what I'm asking.

So both chip and amy are
listening to the spirit box now,

and they don't know
what I'm asking.

And I have a lot of artifacts
from the disaster.

I have names and things
that I can use.

And we'll see
if anything comes up.

is there anyone around
my friend amy by the beach

or chip in the paramount
that was on the morro castle?

there was just an image that
went down this aisle right here.

If you're in the theater
and you knew about the fire,

can you -- on the boat,
can you please tell chip?

do you recognize these photos
here in front of me?

Look, there's bodies there.
There's the ship burning.

I feel it.

do you have anything you want
to say about the shipwreck?

Can you tell us what
cabin number you were in?

I'm dead.

I know you're dead,
but can you tell me your name?

Shadow.

Hello. Hi. What is your name?
Can you just tell me your name?

I have a list of people
that passed away on the boat.

Maybe I could find you.

Daddy.

Excuse me.

I'm gonna read
some of these names.

Alice walker, charles filtzer,
samuel lerner, charles barber.

Does anyone know these names?

All dead.

what about a crew list?
Anybody on the crew?

They left us.

Did you not get into
the lifeboat?

It wasn't free.

That was a ****-up voice.

What do you want?

I want to know if you died
on the ship.

He's a friend.

he can hear us.

Who's talking to amy now?
What's your name?

Richards.

Willis. Colleen.

how many people are there
with amy on the beach?

Me?

can you just say yes or no
whether or not you were on it?

My neck's broken.

We're in asbury park

investigating
the paramount theatre

and conducting
a massive experiment

to raise the voices of the dead.

Who's talking to amy now?
What's your name?

Richards.

Willis. Colleen.

No one was talking before,

but now they're all
coming through.

Ray.

Just, like, saying names.

How many people are there
with amy on the beach?

11.

me.

Does anybody else
want to say anything?

I mean, anything else
about the ship?

can you just say yes or no
whether or not you were on it?

My neck's broken.

turn around.

turn around, chip.
I'm not gonna turn around.

here he comes.

They beat us.

I'm leaving.

Come on, big guy.

accept...

Okay, guys, if you could stop
them, we're gonna end this.

Just give them a little tap,
let them know, okay?

Okay.

- Amy?
- Yeah. Yeah.

Head back in, and we can talk
about all this, okay? Okay.

What I'm getting
from all of this

is that there are people
on the shore there with amy

that understand this fire.

There are people in the theater

that I think possibly know about
the fire but are less connected.

And then there's also
other people

jumping in into the conversation

that don't have anything
to do with the fire.

Asbury park,
it has a sordid history.

There's a lot of things that
have happened in asbury park,

especially on the boardwalk.

- How are you, chip?
- I'm alright. How are, y'all?

From what you were doing...

I mean, you had a lot of,
like, playful activity.

And he saw shadows.

There was, like, a major shadow
coming down the walkway.

The side.

What did you get
a sense from it?

It was all over the board.

I didn't feel
anything malicious,

except when it kept saying,
"turn around, turn around."

how did you feel
out on the beach?

I mean, there were a few moments

I felt really creeped out.

But it's like you just kind of
think about what happened there.

And, like, I mean,
I don't know what you --

I don't know how the questions
were going or anything.

It was as if people associated
with the fire jumped in.

Right.
And they would say tidbits.

I got the sense that the people
that were talking to us,

every single one of them
that you were talking to

had never spoken
to anybody like us ever.

This particular soul that I've
got contact with right now...

Right... has not communicated
with anyone before.

That person would interject
about the fire

and would know about the fire
and know about the ship,

and then they would
immediately be replaced

by somebody else talking.

Yeah, it was a lot
of different voices.

Here, what I got from you

was that this place
was, like, playful.

And every once in a while,

you answered a question
about the ship but not as much,

as if the closer you get
to the catastrophe,

the more people knew about it.

So were there any, like,
right-on answers?

Like, you asked a question,
got a right-on answer?

I asked about the lifeboats.

And I was like, "didn't anybody
get on lifeboats?"

and you said, "they left us."
ooh, that's weird.

Crazy.

It felt like a cacophony
of people trying to reach out.

And every once in a while,
somebody actually would --

I mean, I felt like
I was talking to people

who knew about the catastrophe,

but I think all of these people

had never, ever reached out
to anyone ever before.

So it was like a lot.
It became a lot.

Okay.

Alright, well, thank you for your
help, chip. Thank you.

I don't think a lot
of the spirits realized

that they could reach out to us

and talk to us,
but now they know.

It's the beginning, so I think
they will continue to talk.

And that's a good thing,
because eventually maybe

we can figure out who they are
and give them peace,

and then they can move on.

- hey, jason.
- Hello.

Hi. Good to see you.
Welcome back.

Good to see you.
Thank you for coming up here.

So I think we have a lot
to tell you

as far as what we think
is going on in your buildings.

Day one, we did
the walk-through with you.

We learned about, like, what
was happening in the paramount,

and we sort of focused on that.

The one thing we wanted
to experience was,

you know, the shadow figures.

And so this is about
5:30 in the morning,

and just watch in this area.

- Yeah.
- You see that little thing?

So when chip coffey came in,
he picked up on, he said,

the spirit of, like,
a couple sisters, he said.

And he said that they
are very playful.

And he said they also said
they enjoy being ghosts.

It's what we call the girls.

You know, I mean,
we've always attributed it

to the fire
in the dressing room.

We went to extensive lengths

to figure out what happened
with this fire.

There was a fire
in the dressing rooms,

but it didn't happen until 1986.

And there's never been a fire

that resulted in fatalities
in that space.

I mean,
there's really honestly --

like, as far as theaters go,

the paramount is
kind of tragedy-free.

But you do have ghosts.

Here in the convention hall
and down here on the beach,

like, you definitely have energy

from that ship disaster,
for sure.

We did a really crazy
experiment.

These people were coming to her
and being like,

"wait, wait, wait,
I want to be heard,"

because nobody
has ever, like, taken --

like, been out here
and done that kind of thing.

You might have more entities
coming in from these areas

who are actually looking
for help over time,

especially the more
that you investigate.

I mean, that just kind of
jibes right in with that, like,

you know, lighter energy

that all of us say
in the paramount,

as opposed to, like,
just a darker feeling

in the convention hall.

I mean, I would say it's an
incredible space, all of it.

We really enjoyed
investigating it.

- It was hard, though.
- It was very hard.

But, you know, we thank you guys
for trusting us with it.

Not a problem. It's been
a pleasure working with you.

Great. Alright.

You know, it's important
that we were able to confirm

that, yes, the victims
of the morro castle,

there are some of their spirits

lingering here
on this coastline,

and they very much probably
come into the convention hall

and the theater.

Jason loves this space.
And I can see why.

The paramount is a gem here.

And it's so nice to be able
to help them with this story

that is just such a small part
of what goes on here

and help them just kind of
identify their ghosts

and what's happening here

not only for the people
here at the theater,

but for everyone in asbury park.
