Jesus & Josefine (2003): Season 1, Episode 24 - Gran i håret - full transcript

Are you comfortable in front of the TV?

Are you ready for a real Christmas story?

Okay.

Josephine is back in the present.
The world is back to normal.

Dad, the calendar candle is only burned down to the 18th.

Apparently we've been so busy, we forgot to light it.

In the family, Jesper and Louise are behind with all the Christmas preparations.

Josefine, we need to talk about your birthday.

-What about it?
-We don't have time to organise it.

Josefine fashion with Oskar.
She'll say she's in love

Remember when you asked me to be your girlfriend?

-I thought...
-I'm glad we're just friends.

In church, Jytte thinks they should do the final scene alone.

Suddenly Thorsen appears.

No!

We have to trust God.

They manage to chase Thorsen away by trusting in God -

-and praying the Lord's Prayer.

Do you remember what you promised yesterday?

Oskar asks if she has undone the nativity play

Josefine says she has.

Even if it's not true.

In her evening note, Josefine says she wants to be friends with Oskar.

But most of all she wants to be boyfriends.

If we can't be boyfriends, it's okay to be friends. Amen.

On her pillow are thoughts in cow

Today is Josephine's birthday, hooray, hooray, hooray.

She sure gets herself a present she's been wanting this year.

With lovely chocolate and cakes to go with it.

Happy birthday, darling.

-Here, this is for you.
-Thank you.

You'll never guess what it is.

-No, it's a Santa hat.
-I told you.

-Is that how it's supposed to fit?
-Yes.

And you know what the best part of your birthday is?

It's Christmas Eve.

Happy birthday, honey.

Twelve years. I'll say.

You know what the best part of your birthday is?

It's that it's your birthday.
A little present.

You'll get the rest later.

I hope you like it.

It's so cool.

-Happy birthday, sweetheart.
-Thanks, Dad.

It's so pretty.

You'll have to bear with me.
I'm totally stressed out about Christmas.

-But I made these myself.
-I'll take the biggest one.

For my birthday, I want the biggest one.

Chocolate bun?

Oh, sorry. Thank you, yes.

I'm thinking about my Christmas sermon.

I don't think it's good enough.

Yes, it will be good.

-Mom, is something wrong with you?
-No, of course not.

I just don't know what I'm going to say in church.

What I've got sucks.

Actually, I'd like to talk to Jesus. Your friend Jesus.

Last time he said something I could use.

I think he just wanted to tell you to trust in God.

Trust God? Yes.

No, I don't think that's enough for a whole Christmas sermon.

I don't think so.

Well, I have to go to Oskar.
See you at church.

And don't be late.
You're in the nativity play.

Hi, Oskar.

-Hi, Emilie.
-Hi, Josefine.

See you at church, Oskar.

-Would you rather Emilie play Maria?
-Emilie and I are just good friends.

-Like you and me.
-Okay, then.

-Happy birthday.
-Thank you.

I didn't buy you a present.
The last few days have been pretty busy.

It's okay. It's okay. The world being normal is the best birthday present ever.

Are you sure you know your role?

-I hope so.
-Come on, let's go.

Now, you just watch, Jesus.

You hold this, and then you hold the board.

No, not there, you'll cut your finger.

-Did he cut himself?
-No, I'll watch him.

-If he gets even a little scratch...
-Don't worry. I'll just... Ouch!

Now look what's happened.

-You'll come screaming, too.
-Let me see where you cut yourself.

There's no wound.

Jesus, it's a miracle.

Rise, Joseph of Abraham.

Take the child and its mother back to the land of Israel.

For he who would...

For he who killed the child is himself dead.

The light...

-King Herod is dead.
-Is that so?

We're going home, Mary. Home to Nazareth.

I have to be honest with you, -

-I haven't prepared a Christmas sermon.

I don't know if anyone else has, -

-as if some days have disappeared.

As if time has flown by.

It's strange.

My daughter told me to give a sermon on trusting God.

I said it wasn't enough.

And what does that have to do with the birth of Jesus and Christmas?

That's how stupid I answered this morning.

Because I guess that's what it's all about.

We have to trust God.

Even if it doesn't always feel like he's here with us.

Things happen as they happen.

I'm unprepared, and for that I'm truly sorry.

But I can't move Christmas to tomorrow.

And I have to stand here and look you all in the eye...

-...because I chose this.

But there is one thing that helps me.

And that is that I trust in God.

Just as Mary had to trust in God, -

-when an angel came and told her to give birth to God's son.

And Joseph had to, when he had to take care of a child that wasn't his.

And as Jesus had to trust God when he discovered...

-that his task here on earth was inhumanly hard.

We celebrate Christmas...

-because the Son of God was born here on earth as a human being.

Can we trust that?

If we believe it, then it's true.

And if we don't believe it, -

-then maybe it's true.

Merry Christmas.

Well, I just want to say that that was a very beautiful sermon.

-Thank you very much.
-I look forward to coming again.

-Have you seen Oskar?
-He was just standing over there.

-Have you seen Oskar?
-No, I think he's gone home.

Is he?

-Is there something you wanted to say to him?
-No.

-Well, Merry Christmas.
-Happy birthday.

-Merry Christmas, everybody.
-Thank you.

-Did you find Oskar?
-No.

-I wonder if you'll see him during the Christmas holidays.
-Yes, it's just not the same.

I thought he'd wait for me.

Remember, Josefine: Love is patient.

Have a nice Christmas and a happy birthday.

Thank you.

There you are. Aren't you coming home?

Yes, I am.

You can't hang all the elves on one branch.

-Yes, because then they can talk to each other.
-Then I'll hang the Christmas hearts here.

Then I can put all the baubles right here.

Then the elves can talk to them here.

They're so pretty.

It's so pretty.

Now we just need one thing.

-And that's the presents under the tree.
-The presents!

-Yes, the presents.
-Oh, I forgot.

The gifts from Jesus.

-Are you all right?
-I'm wrapping presents.

-Get out, Dad.
-Yeah, sure.

A poor virgin sat in pay.

Sitting in pay.

And bore the king's son of heaven.

Hallelujah.

Hallelujah.

-We'll take them all again.
-Next year, Lukas.

Now we'll have presents.

This one's for you, Lukas.

This one's for you, Mom.

And this is for you, Dad.

Oh, thank you.

-Look at that. A Kalahaspil.
-It's beautiful.

It's handmade.
Who made it?

Jesus, of course.

What's this?

-No.
-It's so beautiful.

Oh, it smells good.
Thank you so much.

It's an anointing oil.

Oh, it's beautiful.

I really like it.
Thank you.

Someone has a present for you, too.

Today is Josephine's birthday, hurray, hurray, hurray.

I'm sure she'll get a present she's wanted for years, -

-with nice chocolates and cakes.

Long live Josephine: Hooray, hooray, hooray!

Here you go. Happy Birthday.
It's from all of us.

It's the Josefine dego.

-Thank you very much.
-You're welcome.

I'll get something.

-Jesus?
-Happy birthday.

Happy birthday to you.

And I think you should give that to your father.

He'll really like it.

-It worked.
-How?

-Trusting God.
-Of course.

Josefine?

-I'd better get going.
-It was nice to see you.

I figured out how to close the time gate.

Just put it in the crib after I leave.

Josefine, I'll never forget you.

I'll never forget you.

-You have a house full of guests.
-I just had to find this.

It's...

-How did you...
-It's a secret.

It's amazing.
It's a miracle. Louise.

Come on in.

You promised to ruin the crawling game.

It doesn't work anymore.

-There's something I want to ask you.
-Yeah.

Would you like to, you know, get together or...

What about Emilie?

She's helped arrange all this.

She's a great friend.

But if you don't want to be boyfriends, we can just be friends.

Josefine, I'm sorry. Aren't you coming?
There are chips and soda.

We're coming. Spruce in your hair.

Josefine. It's party time.

Here ends our tale of Jesus and Josephine.

Josephine learned that there's something more important than your birthday.

Jesus learned that he is the son of God and that great tasks await him.

Oskar got a girlfriend and Jesper got a baking book.

Louise filled the church and Lukas got a Kalahaspil.

We wish everyone a merry and blessed Christmas -

-with lots of fir in your hair.
