Hierro (2019–…): Season 2, Episode 4 - Episodio 12 - full transcript

The island of El Hierro is the scene of another crime. Gaspar's death triggers a murder investigation directed by Candela and Sergeant Cruz. Does the crime have something to do with the family dispute? The day before he died, Gaspar had been involved in a scuffle with his ex-wife, Lucía, and her violent brother, Alfredo. Candela can only watch on helplessly as the family crumbles before her, leaving Ágata and Dácil at the hands of God. Díaz thought his troubles would be over after Gaspar's death, but he soon finds out he couldn't have been further from the truth.

Mr. Cabrera?

Mr. Cabrera!

Hello?

Sorry?

What? Where?

Thank you!

Thank you for coming so early.

What's happened?

I'll call you when
I get the chance.

Good morning, Your
Honor. This way.

Good morning. How are the girls?

In their room. They're okay.

Did they found him?

- His cousin, Pablo...
- Cabrera.

Yes, he arrived
shortly after 6 a.m.

to take them to the airport.

They called from
the reception desk,

but there was no answer.

- Good morning, Ángela.
- Good morning.

- Shall we begin?
- Yes, the coroner's in there.

- Your Honor.
- Thank you.

Close his eyes, would you?

We have been called to the
scene of a deceased white male,

in his forties,

identified as Gaspar
Cabrera Linares.

Have you got it all down?

I'll fill in the blanks later.

The body is between
the side of the bed

and the wardrobe.

Next to the body,

there is an empty bottle
of whisky from the mini bar

and shards of glass.

Can you continue
describing the body?

Can you describe his
clothes first, please?

Dressing gown. Pajama bottoms.

Bare feet. Shirtless.

Please, continue...

The body is in the
supine position

with the head
turned to the right.

The right shoulder is
abducted at a 90 degree angle,

the elbow is bent and
the palm is facing up.

The victim has sustained
a blow to the left temple.

There is blood around the
head, emanating from the wound.

He died upon impact.

Can you help me turn
him over, please?

Yeah, sure.

There are no marks at the back.

- Anything in his pockets?
- Let me see.

His phone. May I take
a look, Your Honor?

Please, do.

The information suggests
the possibility of violence,

right?

There are signs of a struggle:
The broken glass and his face...

What might he have
been hit with?

It looks like
blunt force trauma.

A hammer, or a stone.

Whatever it was, it's not here.

Estimated time of death?

His lawyer says she was
with him until 11:30 p.m.

It must have been
shortly afterwards,

he's been dead for a few hours.

I think I'm done.

Does anyone have
anything relevant to add?

- Not me.
- No, Your Honor.

Let's preserve his hands.

Well, at 08:13 a.m., the
procedure is concluded

and the body may be
removed from the scene.

Your Honor...

What have you found?

His wife sent him 28
messages last night.

LEAVE DÁCIL AND I WONT TELL
THEM WHAT I NOW ABOUT YOU

ANSWER ME

- Have you spoken to her?
- Braulio's gone to look for her.

I want to see the girls.
How are they doing?

They've just been
given breakfast.

They're doing okay.

Have they not said anything?

The youngest was
sleeping next door.

Dácil was sleeping
with her sister.

But they didn't see
or hear anything.

What's the matter?

Have a word with them.

Girls, you should eat something.

Come on, Dácil.

Good morning.

- Good morning.
- Good morning.

How are you doing?

Can I get you anything?

I want my mommy.

I know, Dácil...
We've gone to get her.

You'll have to wait a bit.

If there's anything we
can do, just let us know.

Sergeant Cruz says you
didn't hear anything.

It's important that you tell
us anything you remember.

You can talk to me
or the sergeant.

Okay?

You were in the room
next door, right?

But I came in here.

Why's that?

I was scared.

She's scared of the dark.

I see.

Perhaps you were
woken by a sound?

No, I just woke up.

I put my slippers on
and came to sleep here.

That's the third time
I've heard her story:

First with Braulio,
then me, and now you.

She's said the exact same thing.

What are you trying to say?

That happens

when someone makes up their
own version of events.

They stick to their story

in case they say something
that doesn't add up.

Alfredo...

Have you seen Lucía?

Is she not home?

No, she went out last night.

I'm scared she might have
done something stupid.

I take it you've not
heard about Gaspar.

He's dead.

He was murdered last night.

Where are the girls?

They're with Cabrera.

- I have to go.
- Okay...

- Hey, Alfredo...
- What's up?

- Tell Lucía we're here, please.
- Why's that?

We'd like to ask
her a few questions.

What about?

Can you tell her we're here?

She's gone out.

So early?

Do you know where?

She didn't say.

Can we check whether she's home?

Your Honor, she's not home and
she's not turned up at work.

We're looking for her.

What about her brother?

He says he doesn't
know anything,

but Braulio doesn't believe him.

If their mother doesn't turn up,

we'll have to call
Social Services.

We might have identified
the murder weapon.

They're ornaments made
by a local artist.

The hotel bought them
to decorate the rooms.

There's one missing
from Gaspar's room.

What does the coroner think?

That it's plausible.

Lucía?

Lucía.

Lucía.

Lucía, can you hear me?

Lucía.

Get off me.

Hey, calm down.
It's me, Braulio.

What's going on...?

Step out of the car, please.

Come on, get out of the car.

Someone's had a good time.

What have you taken?

- I'll give you a hand.
- I've not had anything.

You'll have to
come with us. Okay?

No, I'm fine...

What time is it? I have to go.

Listen, you can't
drive like that.

Lucía, no. Give over.

You're coming with us, okay?

Okay? Come on. I'll
give you a hand...

Easy does it... Put
your arms around me.

I can do it... I
can do it myself...

All right, let's
go. Slowly does it.

- Okay...
- Okay, I'm fine...

Cabrera's been
killed. Did you know?

Everyone knows
everything round here.

You knew?

Dad, what's going on?

It was him.

He was the one
trying to kill me.

Why?

Because of this. I can't
think of any other reason.

No... Jesus, Dad.

Pilar...

Listen to me.

I haven't done anything.

But I went to the
hotel last night.

- You what?
- He was already dead.

He was already dead
when I got there.

I didn't kill him...
You have to believe me.

Look at me.

I didn't do it.

Okay...

No one saw you, right...?

Dad...

His little girl saw me.

Dácil?

She hasn't said anything yet.

How do you know?

Have you seen any
policemen round here?

She hasn't said anything.

Yet.

And I don't know why.

Pay no attention to them, okay?

Are we going to see mommy?

We can't at the moment.
But it's going to be fine.

Okay? Don't worry...

Stay back there. Don't move.

Stay back.

I have two of them here...

- Excuse me, Candela...
- Yes?

Why can't I go with them?

They have to be taken
by Social Services.

But you never know, they
might just call you.

I'm sorry.

Are you feeling better now?

Don't tell Alfredo, please...

You must've had
a hack of a time.

What happened, Lucía?

Your lawyer is
here, Mrs. Dueñas.

Lucía, are you okay?

I hope you haven't
been interrogating her.

We were just having a chat.

I just had a bit too much
to drink, it's no big deal.

Have you not told her?

What's going on, Bernardo?

Mrs. Dueñas...

Gaspar Cabrera was found
dead in his hotel room.

The case is being
treated as suspicious.

When was the last
time you saw him?

I saw him... I
saw him yesterday.

In court...

No, I saw him afterwards at
the hotel in the afternoon.

Where are my girls?
Are they okay?

Your girls are
fine, Mrs. Dueñas.

We've found bloodstains
on your clothing.

Do you know how they got there?

What?

UNEXPLAINED DEATH OF
ENTREPRENEUR IN EL HIERRO

Hello, auntie.

Have you heard about Gaspar?

Yeah, I'm just reading it now.

Fadi, please tell me we
have nothing to do with it.

HOTEL

Her clothes are being
analyzed in Tenerife.

The blood type matches
that of Gaspar Cabrera.

What does she say?

She can't remember.

She was out clubbing at...

Oasis. It's the only
club on the island.

She'll have been seen.

Not since she left the club.

Send her my way as
soon as you can.

What's the rush?

It's about the girls.

There's something
you should know.

Fadi Najjar, Samir's son...

He arrived in El
Hierro yesterday.

- Are you keeping tabs on him?
- No.

There's no need.

The hills have
eyes in El Hierro.

What's he doing here?

We don't know.

He arrived at noon and was
spotted around El Golfo.

El Golfo...

That's on the other side
of the island, right?

Exactly.

I know it's got nothing
to do with all this,

but I just thought
I'd let you know.

Find out why he's here
and let me see Lucía soon.

Understood.

Let's go.

Various witnesses
saw you leave Oasis

around midnight.

What did you do afterwards?

I don't really remember.

The clothes you were
wearing last night

contain bloodstains
from your ex-husband,

Mr. Gaspar Cabrera.

How do you think they got there?

They had a fight in front
of the Parador Hotel.

Counselor, you can talk when
it is your turn to speak.

Right, Your Honor. My apologies.

Do you think the blood might
have come from that fight?

I guess...

You don't have to answer.

We found cocaine in
your car this morning.

How might that have got there?

My God...

May we take a break, Your Honor?

Please, I don't want my
daughters to find out.

Please...

I was doing so well...

Mrs. Dueñas, did you
kill Mr. Cabrera?

We'll have to phone
Social Services.

They're waiting our call.

What do you think they'll do?

I don't know. Is
there a centre here?

No, it's in Tenerife.

I suppose they'll contact
their closest relatives.

Should I call them myself?

I'd appreciate that.

Anything else?

No, that's all.

I hope it's not bad news.
I'm having a bad day.

I've heard Gaspar's
wife has been arrested

accused of murder.

Jesus, Díaz! What
does it matter to you?

So it's true... And was it her?

Díaz, I'm her lawyer.

So what?

What do you expect me to say?

How does she get on
with the children?

She's their mother.
She adores them.

And do they adore her?

The youngest does, the
eldest not so much.

What is all this about?

Did neither of
them see anything?

They were in a room nearby.

I'm starting to get
worried. What's going on.

I must be getting
old. I'm just nosy.

Thanks, Bernardo.

Díaz! Díaz...

- See you tomorrow.
- Bye.

Sergeant!

Come on, Dácil.

Girls, if you need
anything, give me a call.

Thank you.

I hope everything goes well.

It's no trouble for me.

I know. I'll be home in a bit.

Thank you so much.

I'm sorry, Candela.

I don't get why they
can't stay with me.

Idaira has been granted
provisional custody.

Why her and not me?

It could have been
also given to Alfredo.

Alfredo's a freeloader.

They must think Idaira is
the appropriate person.

It's none of my business.

I'm sorry, Mr. Cabrera.

I'm sorry.

Very good...

Dácil, would you like
something to eat?

No, thanks.

Stay off the Internet.

People don't think
before they speak.

How will I find out
what's going on?

Idaira, can I ask
you a question?

Of course.

Is Nico going to die?

No, Dácil...

Nico was feeling a bit
bad, but he's okay now.

Can I look after him?

Of course.

Let's play a game.

It'll all be fine.

She might talk at any minute.

She hasn't said anything
with her mother in custody.

I don't think she will.

I hope you're right.

It's best if I deal
with this alone.

Who is it?

I'll tell you later. You go.

Hi, Pilar.

Hello.

What's up, Fadi?

So this is the famous
banana plantation.

Famous? I wouldn't go that far.

What brings you here?

I wanted to see the plantation.
It really is famous.

Don't be so modest.

My mom told me all about it.

And Gaspar Cabrera
also mentioned it.

The man who was
killed last night.

Did you know Gaspar Cabrera?

I actually met him through you.

I was interested in finding
out who wanted you dead.

You know it was him, right?

I had my suspicions.

You're so modest, Díaz.

I thought you'd
killed him yourself.

What the hell are those for?
To keep the bananas warm?

To protect them from the wind.

I didn't kill Gaspar.

Did you?

I really liked his idea.

What idea?

To build a resort here.

This is the only place
left on the islands.

And it's got water
and everything.

It's incredible. Unique.

The plantation's not for sale.

He told me.

We've been having a
few minor problems

shifting our product
and investing money.

We need a new
investment strategy.

It's all your fault, actually...

So, a resort here
would be perfect.

Right...

But the plantation
is not for sale.

Do it for me.

I've always respected
the Najjars.

Your father was the
only one who helped me.

I worked with your
mother, your aunt...

I respect your family.

Are you sure?

But I'm not selling.

Well...

It's up to you.

But I'm not Gaspar, you know?

I don't know what
you're trying to say.

- Yes, you do.
- Get your hands off me.

Calm down, man.

It's not like I've put a
finger on your daughter.

Get the fuck out of here.

Who the fuck do
you think you are?

Get the fuck out
of here. Right now.

The contract's on its way.

And don't you ever
threaten my daughter again.

Auntie, your phone's ringing!

You'll pay for that,
Nico. You'll pay for that.

My home...

Hello, Candela.

Hey, what's up?
How are you doing?

What's going to
happen to my mom?

Ágata...

It's okay.

She's been arrested and
she's under investigation.

Anything could happen.

Was she really
found with cocaine?

I'm not going to discuss

the details of
the investigation.

Don't believe
everything you're told.

People like to point fingers.

Right, girls...

Dácil, thanks for
looking after Nico.

You're welcome.

Cabrera came to see the girls.

The girls don't
have to be hidden.

They can see whoever
you think fit.

Well...

- Bye.
- Be careful.

The small island of
El Hierro is in shock

following the murder
of Gaspar Cabrera.

His ex-wife, Lucía
Dueñas, has been arrested.

The victim is thought
to have been struck

with this ornament, yet
to be found by the police.

This is going to be your room.

I'll let you know when
your dinner's ready.

Great, thank you.

Can we talk to mom tomorrow?

I don't know.

Are you okay?

Yeah...

Really?

Gaspar had a SIM card. That's
what we've found in it.

Four calls in under a month.

The last one, a day before
Ventura arrived here.

I don't know... Did he want to
kill Díaz and take his land?

He was in contact
with the hitman.

If Díaz found out, he
would go after him.

We might be onto
something, right?

Anything might have happened.

We'll have to find out
where he was on that night.

He wasn't seen at the hotel.

All we have is what his
daughter posted on social media:

She'd eaten something
with her dad at home.

What did it say, Braulio?

They had limpets.
Pilar posted a photo.

But it's not like her to
post something like that.

While the main line of
inquiry is his ex-wife,

we should look into this.

I've got an idea.

I'll summon Díaz and tell him
what we know about Gaspar,

and we'll see how he reacts.

We've found something
else on his phone.

Gaspar and his
lawyer were lovers.

That doesn't surprise me.

And are you going
to talk to her?

Yes, this morning.

She's nervous. She wants
to leave the island.

That's good for us.
Any news on Fadi?

He went back to
Tenerife yesterday.

Yesterday?

Alfredo, what are
you doing here?

I'm handing myself in.

It wasn't Lucía. It was me.

BANANA PLANTATION SALES CONTRACT

NAJJAR GROUP SALES CONTRACT

We've just got this.

A purchase agreement
for the plantation.

Forget it, it's nothing.

Mom's been sent the same.

They're offering
less than Gaspar.

It doesn't matter.
It's not for sale.

It's the Najjar
Group, Samir's people.

Her son's set his mind on
this, but he'll lose interest.

Hello?

When do you want to see me?

Sorry about the wait, Díaz.

Don't worry.

Should I be worried?

No, we've got news

on the hitman who
tried to kill you.

Really?

Yeah.

I thought it best to share it
with you as the injured party.

Thank you. What news?

The hitman had ties
to Mr. Gaspar Cabrera.

You're joking...

Are you surprised?

You can say that again.

It was a surprise
for me as well.

If you can think of anything
that might help us out here...

Like what?

I don't know.

You knew Mr. Cabrera
better than me.

I'm going to start wishing
my lawyer was here.

How's your boy getting on?

Yes?

Excuse me... Good morning.

May I interrupt for a moment?

Is it urgent?

A little.

- Should I go outside?
- No, wait here, please.

I'll just be a minute.

We've found out who
Gaspar saw before he died.

- Who?
- Fadi Najjar.

Jesus...

My lawyer has advised me
to end this conversation.

You've found the person
who killed Gaspar.

Alfredo has confessed.
Is that not enough?

It's not enough.
Stop playing games.

Sorry?

Yours is a dangerous game.

Your Honor, if that's all...

Díaz.

Gaspar Cabrera, Fadi Najjar...

The worst people and
you in the middle.

And I don't even think
you want to be there.

You're a pain in the neck.

But I can help you.
And you can help me.

I really appreciate
it, Your Honor.

POLICE

Can't you defend him?

There'd be a conflict
of interests.

Alfredo would never kill anyone.
He just says a lot of things.

He's confessed to the murder.

Shouldn't they let me go, then?

Let's see...

He's under investigation
just like you.

He might be lying.

Do you think he's lying?

Lucía!

Do you think he's lying?

Where are they keeping him?

In another cell.

Alfredo! Alfredo!

He's not here right now.

Should we go over the terrain?

There's only one access road
and the odd mountain path.

There are no traffic cameras.

How did you get to the hotel?

I came from up there.

How exactly?

I took the goatherd route.

It descends from Isora.
It's very dangerous.

If you don't know
your way around.

Did you come down
at night? On foot?

Yeah, and I went
the same way back.

Ready when you are.

Where you entered?

I can't remember
which room it was.

Really?

I saw Gaspar through the window.

For the record, the
party under investigation

is unable to identify
the victim's room.

It's this one.

Should I climb over?

Do exactly what
you did that night.

Your Honor, you go around
the front if you like.

Thank you.

Keep going, please.

I came in. Gaspar
came from over there.

Corporal...

He saw me and stood still.

Did he not try and kick you out?

Yeah, but he couldn't.

What happened?

We argued.

I asked him to let Dácil go,
she wanted to be with her mom.

He said no and squared up to me.

What was he wearing?

A shirt or pajamas...
I can't remember.

And what happened?

He got all violent and
started insulting Lucía.

He said he was going to
take the girls to Miami.

And we'd never see
them ever again.

He said he'd lied to you

just like he lied
to everyone else.

He said all that?

Well, he came over
and grabbed me.

How?

Like this?

Yeah, something like that.

He started insulting
me and I got angry.

I grabbed the first thing I
could find... An ornament.

What ornament?

There was an ornament here.

- Where?
- Here. Right here.

I grabbed it like this

and I fended him
off with this hand

and hit him.

He fell to the ground
and stopped moving.

What position did
Gaspar's body end up in?

The Corporal will do as you say.

His head ended up where
the bloodstain is.

One minute...

And his legs were
facing that way.

Like that?

Yeah.

- Well... No, more like...
- Sorry?

Actually, I hit him like this.

And he fell down, but face up.

Corporal...

Like that?

Yeah.

What did you do
with the ornament?

I threw it off a cliff.

Thank you, Corporal.
On your feet.

You're a pain in the ass, Díaz.

We have always
respected each other.

I wouldn't go that far...

I had good dealings
with your brother-in-law

and then with your sister,
who wasn't always easy.

But we both knew our place.
There were certain rules.

Rules change. That's life.

I had a run-in with Fadi.
I went a bit too far...

I want to apologize.

But your nephew
threatened my daughter,

and that's where
I draw the line.

You understand, right?

The only good thing
about being old and frail

is that you know

which battles are
worth fighting.

Do you think Fadi's
doing the right thing?

Sell up, Díaz.

Are you even on the same page?

What does it matter to you?
Just sell the damn plantation.

Talk to Fadi. I'll
make it up to you.

It's not up to me.

Talk to him!

He won't listen to me! How
can I get it in your skull?

There must be a way!

You've always been a
pain in the ass, Díaz.
