Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star (2019–…): Season 4, Episode 8 - Episode #4.8 - full transcript

[tense music playing]

[Maya] Have you made a decision?

[both] We have

[sighs heavily]

For a place in the final,

we asked you to create
a bold, graphic, black oval eye

To execute this,
we were looking for great shape,

dense black pigment, and no fallout

[sighs] You really made it
very hard for us

However, you both struggled
with the symmetry

And one MUA had fallout

And for that reason,

Nancé, you'll be packing your kit
and going home. I'm sorry

[somber music playing]

For me, this experience has been
beyond what I thought it would've been

and I'm so proud
that I got this far. Honestly

Sometimes I just... I'm lost of words

[Val] Oh, sad to see you go
I cannot believe it

I'm just proud that I came here
and I stood in front of people,

and I did such amazing looks

I'm genuinely proud of that

You are an absolute star

- [sniffles]
- You have been amazing

[driving electronic music playing]

[both squeal and laugh]

- [Yong-chin] Oh!
- [all laugh]

[screams happily]

[Kris] Oh, my God!

I'm in the final

Like, what the hell? [laughs]

[poppy house music plays]

[Maya] The competition began
with ten exceptional makeup artists

Now, just three remain

[Kris] I made it all the way
I got to the end

[Lisa] This is huge

[Yong-chin] I'm still here!

[Maya] Now they'll compete
for a life-changing prize,

the chance to work alongside some
of the world's best makeup artists

[Lisa] It would mean absolutely everything
to me to win this competition

[Yong-chin] I'm definitely in it
to win it

I feel I've got a big shot here

[Kris] I'm here
I can do this. It's so close,

that to come out
the winner would be insane

It's time to Glow Up

[mellow disco music playing]

[Maya] Now the finalists
will battle it out to win a contract

working with some
of the world's most influential MUAs

But first, Val and Dom
want to give all three of them

the chance to kick-start their careers

- Morning, MUAs
- [all] Morning

Congratulations
You have made it to the final

- [all laugh]
- Yay!

You've all come so far,

but it's not over just yet

[all chuckle]

For your final assignment,

I'm gonna hand over
to your incredible guest judge,

a huge influence
within the beauty industry,

Manny MUA

- [gasps]
- Oh, my God

Hey, guys. It's Manny MUA here

I will be joining you in person tomorrow

for your final assignment

where you will lead
your very own makeup master class,

something I know a thing or two about

[all laugh]

[brash soul music plays]

[Maya] Makeup artist, entrepreneur,
and social media megastar Manny Gutierrez,

AKA Manny MUA,
is one of the biggest names in beauty

With an online audience
of over 11 million,

and having racked up
over 500 million views,

Manny is no stranger to a master class

You will each have 30 minutes
to demonstrate a signature look

that shows off
your skill, technique, and style

And remember the key
to a good master class

is not only demonstrating your skill,

it's about showing
your personality as well

I cannot wait to see you tomorrow

[artists exclaim happily]

[all applaud]

That was a cute one

All the industry heavyweights
have done master classes

Alex Box, Andrew Gallimore,
Charlotte Tilbury

So for our MUAs to be doing
a master class is a huge opportunity

[driving instrumental hip-hop plays]

[Maya] The MUAs will be presenting
their master classes to a panel

of influential industry experts

Each has a career-boosting
collaboration on offer

They now have just one day to prepare
a look that sells them as an artist

Unique to her features, Yong-chin believes

her look can encourage others
to find makeup styles that work for them

When designing this look
for myself, I always struggled

I love the shape of the winged eyeliner

and I just felt
like it didn't suit my face at all

So I came up
with my freestyle version of eyeliner

I hope that it sort of shows people
to be a bit more, like, adventurous

with their everyday makeup,

and don't be afraid to sort of, like,
draw outside of the normal shapes

that people would usually do
around their eyes

[Maya] Kris wants to show
how a special effects staple

can be used by all

[mellow house music plays]

The signature look that I decided
to go for is a bald cap application

I love SFX and for me personally,
it's been a really, really useful tool

to completely open up the possibilities
of what I could do with makeup

[Maya] Having quit teaching
to pursue her dream of makeup,

Lisa will also be sharing
her passion for special effects

[Lisa] What I really want
to demonstrate in the master class is that

I have a love for this realistic,
sort of gory side of SFX

The realistic sort of cuts and things
is what got me into loving SFX

So, the goal is
to hopefully catch someone's eye

who might be able
to offer me an opportunity

within special effects makeup

Yeah. [chuckles nervously]

Hopefully it will be okay

[bouncy electronic music plays]

[tense instrumental hip-hop music plays]

[Maya] King's Cross, London,

creative and artistic hub,

and the setting
for the MUAs' first-ever master class

[Lisa] Morning

Morning, MUAs

[artists] Morning

Allow me to introduce your guest judge,

who's flown all the way from LA,

it's Manny MUA

- [applauding]
- Hi, you guys. How are you?

I'm honestly so excited
to be here, you have no idea

Just remember to show us
what makes your artistry unique

and let your personality shine through

[aggressive electronic music playing]

[Maya] Val and Dom have reached

into their little black books to secure
experts from across the industry,

all able to open doors
for an aspiring MUA

Amazing people on our panel today
We've got beauty editors,

TV and film makeup artists,
journalists, retailers

You name it, they are here

[Manny] Today is gonna be
so much pressure for the MUAs

It could change someone's life forever

Like, this is the moment for them

[Val] Most MUAs have to work years
before they get this kind of opportunity

This is huge

[Maya] With the panel offering experiences
to match each finalist's goals,

a win today could launch their careers

I'm really looking for somebody
who understands the nuances

of showing off makeup

and letting the natural person
shine through,

no matter how strong the look is

What will be the next generation
of creating glow?

Of creating perfection?

A fresh approach,

something new that I haven't seen,
and technically flawless

So many people in there that work
in the industry I want to work in,

with magazines, like makeup brands,
doing creative direction

I would love the opportunity
to work with any of them

Best of luck to all of you

- Kris, you're up first. Good luck
- Okay. Thanks

- [Maya] Have a good one
- [Lisa] Have fun

[Kris] Thanks

[dramatic music plays]

[Maya] Self-taught MUA Kris dreams
of a career in special effects

- [Kris] Splat
- Right on the face

[Kris] Cheekbones, forehead,

and then onto the forehead,
we got a giant head

[Maya] His creativity
has seen him stand out each week

[laughs] There we go

I love that

My good golly!

The arms are the mouth

You've got an incredible imagination

[Maya] But the determination
to deliver big

meant his looks lacked finesse

I wanna see a bit more polish

Why won't he just do something simple?

[Maya] By striking a balance...

I really, really want this one

to be the one where I'm like,
"Look, it's polished, it's finished."

[Maya] ...he hopes to go all the way

- Scrumptious! This is phenomenal
- [Kris laughs]

- Let them eat cake
- [laughs]

Just the right amount
of finesse. Well done

[Kris] I don't think I can put into words
how much winning would mean to me

It's a dream come true

Like, who doesn't wanna go from small town
into this massive competition and win?

That doesn't happen

- I can't wait to see what you do next
- Thank you

[tense percussive music plays]

[Maya] Kris will have just 30 minutes
to demonstrate to the panel

how to perfect the art of the bald cap

[Kris] It can be used
in so many different aspects of makeup,

so I think it's a really useful skill
for everyone to know

Got my little Britney microphone going on
So, it's all happening now. [chuckles]

[judges applauding]

[suspenseful music playing]

Today, I'm gonna walk you
through a workshop

of a skill that I use as a staple
in a lot of my creative looks,

which is a bald cap application,

the ultimate blank canvas
to do basically whatever you want

As you can see, beautiful,
thick, luscious head of hair

- Needs to go. No longer. Bye-bye
- [laughs]

[Manny] Truly the way to stand out
in this industry is your personality

There is a million artists
out there that can do makeup

This is about showing
who you are as a person,

why you are better than the artist
that they can hire next to you

[Kris] So, sorry for this. [laughs]

You want the hair laying flat
and in the right position

just so you don't have any bumps
and lumps sitting underneath the flap,

because the bald cap is very taut
and it's gonna show through

He has walked in so confidently
and grabbed everyone's attention

Yeah, it's a very good start

So, I'm just gonna ask
my model just to put his finger up

into little devil horns,
just to help me get it on

- That's good, explanation
- Yeah

And then all you wanna do
is just pull it down over the head

[pulsing electronic music plays]

What I like to do
is stretch it down over the face

and then melt away whatever I don't need

Take a little bit of acetone,

and then taking a Q-tip,
start melting around

Slow and steady
wins the race with this one

[gentle enchanting music plays]

I feel like I'm watching paint dry

Why aren't you talking about something?
Giving us a story?

Tell us about why you love bald caps
Tell us about your SFX history

[yawns]

- [sighs]
- [Manny] It's just taking so long

I mean, the blend's looking good

[Val] It is looking really good

[Dominic] I'm really worried
I don't think he's got time to finish it

[Val] He's running out of time

Again, just with the ear,
starting off to the center

I'm getting scared

[suspenseful music plays]

[Val] He's gone silent

He's nervous

I'm nervous, Val

[tense music plays]

[sighs]

If you want your brows to show through,

you can just do this process
above the brows

Trying to avoid any hair
that might be sticking through

And then from here, you're just melting
those edges into the skin

And from then,
you basically have a blank canvas

on which you can do
anything you want on it

Thank you very much, everyone
So, does anyone have any questions?

I'm interested to know,

why did you go
for kind of a technical competent skill

over really showing us who you are
through your creative work?

I know a lot of people say,
"Why are you doing a bald cap?"

"You're just giving yourself
twice the amount of work."

You're also giving yourself
twice the amount of room to play with

So, that's something really special
I really wanted to bring that today

[all applaud]

[moody instrumental hip-hop playing]

Would you do a bald cap?

- Not for a master class
- No!

Kris is very creative. We know this

So, where's the color?

- Where's the character?
- [Dominic] The personality?

I feel like it definitely could've
been a bit, like, cleaner

- Did the time go faster than you thought?
- [Kris] Yeah, way faster

I got a lot finished,
but the last two minutes,

I was towards the back of the head, like...

- [Maya] Scraping off
- Yeah

[tense music playing]

[Maya] While Kris breathes
a sigh of relief,

time for the experts to feedback

That was fascinating to watch

I felt like I was watching
a life-or-death medical procedure

versus a makeup master class

There's so much skill
and painstaking patience

required to do that

- Yong-chin, you're up next, honey
- [Yong-chin] Ready to go

- Go and kill 'em
- [Kris and Lisa] Good luck

- Thank you
- [Maya] Go, go, go, go, go, go, go!

[epic pop music playing]

[Maya] Part-time nanny Yong-chin dreams
of moving into high fashion full time

It's always been,
like, a big thing of mine to try

and get a big beauty campaign

[judges gasp]

[Maya] Her artistic skill
was clear from the off

Ding-dong, darling

[Yong-chin] My journey in this competition
has been pretty questionable. [laughs]

There's definitely been loads of highs

One MUA really impressed me

- Yong-chin
- Oh my God!

And then there's been
a lot of lows as well

[Maya] After her strong start...

I'm a little disappointed
with the coloring

[Maya] ...a fall from grace

You will be going into the Face Off

- [Maya] But since finding her groove...
- [Val] Ooh!

[Maya] ...Yong-chin has shone

Welcome back to the competition

- [laughs]
- [Val] This is a masterpiece in makeup

[Yong-chin] I've definitely shown
how resilient I can be

[Val] I don't have
to critique this at all

It is a ding-dong from me!

[all applaud]

[intriguing marimba music plays]

[Maya] Yong-chin is banking
on her signature eyeliner look

to help demonstrate her skills

I really want
to, like, inspire other people

to paint crazy stuff
on their face. [chuckles]

[laughs]

Final breath

[judges applauding]

[mellow synth music plays]

Hiya. Today, I'm gonna be
showing you my signature look,

which is my statement eye

It's an asymmetric look,
which I like to call my freestyle liner

[microphone feeds back]

I always struggled

with coming up with an eye look
that really suited my eye shape

I think a lot of people with hooded eyes
almost get quite, like, fearful

of certain shapes that you can work with

They don't want their eyes to appear
smaller or, like, less elongated

So, I just wanted to create a look

that was really true to me

The fact she's identified

an eye shape that actually gets missed out
in the beauty industry quite a lot,

this is gonna really connect
with a lot of people

I prefer to use a gel liner 'cause I feel
like you get lots more definition

I do like to take my finger
and blend it out into the skin as well

And I feel like this just gives the liner,
like, a really, like, infinite look

and it just drags it and blends it
right out into the skin

- That's a tip I'm gonna take away
- I love that tip

- [Val] She's so nervous
- [Manny] Mm-hmm

- Her hands are shaking
- They are shaking!

If you are that nervous,
best just to own it, you know

I think when you're working
with a gel liner, the good thing is

it can be quite forgiving
if you've got a shaky hand, like me today

- [chuckles] So, um, yeah
- [Manny] It's all good

You can go in with a cotton bud
and definitely, like, clear up the edges

and just sort of smoke them out

Oh, that was so good that she did that

[Yong-chin] When you're doing
strokes underneath the eye,

it's really important

the way that you hold your brush,
to hold it against the skin

That eyeliner is looking a bit ropey

She needs to get in there
and start cleaning it

Now that my hand's calmed down a bit,
I'm gonna go back into the other eye

and sort of finesse
that little line there

Good

[Yong-chin] Just really sharpening off
all those edges

I'll then go in with the black eyeshadow

With a gel liner, you do need to set it,

and you do need to, like, make sure
that it really deepens in certain areas

Oh, now she's setting with the black

Hallelujah

And now, if you're a little bit like me,

you're gonna wanna add
on some embellishments

- I like to use silver studs
- Oh

'Cause I was always really inspired
by this, like, glam rock era, the punks,

you know, just a bit
in-your-face. [chuckles]

Uh, thank you
Has anyone got any questions?

Is this, like, the exact specific design
that's signature to you?

Or do you always sort of change it up
based on your model's features?

This... This is the design
that I actually always do on myself

- Yeah
- I've not done it on another model before

- Really?
- My hands were a bit shaky, I'm sorry

But I loved, as well, that you
told us that, like, you spoke about it

Because, I mean, I was holding
my breath for you the whole time

Yeah. [laughs]

- Thank you
- [all applaud]

Thank you

[mellow house music playing]

I was, like, shocked
with how ambitious that was, honestly

- Very ambitious
- That is very brave in half an hour

It was just not how I wanted it to look,
and I just, like, couldn't fix it

I feel like you are always
gonna be harsher on yourself

than what it would look like
to everybody else

So do bear that in mind

It's really beautiful
It's like an accessory,

face accessory, and it's beyond makeup

I liked that she brought
something different

I haven't seen this before,

but I would've liked to see
a bit more of a refined finish

[Joe Dulude II] She really impressed me
with her creativity

I really appreciate it
I actually learned a couple things

All right. Lisa, you're up next
Off you go. Best of luck

- Bye, guys
- [Maya] See you

[funky disco music playing]

[Maya] Risking it all,
Lisa left her teaching job behind

to enter the competition

[Lisa] And you're, like,
my first ever model

- Aw
- [laughs]

[Maya] She was top of the class
from the very beginning...

Lisa

This is a work of art

[Maya] ...and wowed week after week

Good job, Lisa

Wow!

- [Val] Ding-dong, darling. Ding-dong
- [applauding]

I'm really impressed

[Maya] At times,
she let self-doubt creep in

They've come to expect a lot from me
I hope I don't crumble

Your look was too predictable

[Maya] But Lisa fought back

I'm definitely giving it my all today

It's just genius

What a way of bouncing back

To win this competition
would just mean everything to me

It would reassure me
that I made the right decision,

that, like,
the industry experts believe in me,

so I need to believe in me as well

[Lisa reads indistinctly]

[Maya] Lisa wants to demonstrate
her flair for special effects

and help kick-start
a career in the industry

[sighs and chuckles nervously]

[upbeat music playing]

- [judges applaud]
- [Lisa] Okay

[breathes deeply, chuckles]

- [mic feeds back]
- Oh!

[all laugh]

[laughing] Sorry. Hi, everybody

Um, today, I'm going to be demonstrating

a realistic fresh cut on the skin

out of silicone gel

So I've got here a two-part silicone

We've got an A and a B

All that means is that
it's literally two different ingredients

that are only activated
when they're mixed together

I really love that she's talking
through every step so thoroughly

You can just make a bit of a caterpillar

And now you harness your inner surgeon
or your inner Freddy Krueger

- [all laugh]
- Depending on what appeals to you

And you can start to make your cut

I mean, what is the story?
She hasn't explained it

- I'm really confused
- Right

- Where's the cut coming from?
- [Val] Yes

I actually use my fingers for this bit

because I do feel
like it's the easiest way

to get a natural blend

She's getting right in there. I like it

So I'm gonna grab my speckle brush

Basically just a posh toothbrush, I feel

You can just use a toothbrush

And just flecking on that red

[intriguing music playing]

Even if you were picking up
special effects for the very first time...

- Mm-hmm
- ...it's doable

- She's making it attainable
- Yeah

I did forget actually,
before the speckling,

you should really go in
with a setting powder

and just get rid of any shine

[inhales sharply]

Um, it's a translucent powder,

so I think I can put it on over...

over the speckling stage

Good. Humble, honest

That's what showing a personality
in a master class is about

Even if you mess up,

you keep it going, keep it moving,
because it's endearing

[Lisa] Fake blood. When we pop it on,

it likes to bead

It's not gonna look real

Because my top tip
is actually using a washing up liquid

Tip. I love a tip

[Lisa] And this stops beading

So now when I put the fake blood on,
it just goes on like... like blood

[laughs] So much nicer

Top tip, tick

You know, she looks like a pro

Then again, I'm gonna take
my stippling sponge

And I'm just gonna grab
some of that fake blood

- And allow it to puddle
- Nice. Really nice

[Lisa] Down the face a little bit
You can even use your fingers

Thank you so, so much

Does anybody have any questions?

What is your background?

Um, I'm actually a primary school teacher

[judges chuckle]

[laughs]

That's amazing. Um...

You know, I could tell
that you had taught before

because it was really wonderful
to listen to you

Aw, thank you so much

[all applaud]

Thank you, everyone. Thank you

[uplifting music plays]

Yes! [chuckles]

[gasps] I'm so happy

[laughs]

- I mean, that is amazing
- [Manny] It's amazing from the side too

- [Val] Yeah
- I love it

- How was it?
- [applauding]

- Yeah, I'm really happy. It was...
- Yay

I feel like once I relaxed
a little bit and focused in

on what I was actually doing,
the makeup, I... I did relax,

and I tried to have fun

She carried herself brilliantly

You know, she can definitely
speak in front of people

What I would love to see, though,
is a little bit more blood,

a bit more trickling,

a little bit more redness,
making it more realistic

It's so hard to distinguish
between all of them

They all brought something to the party

Thank you so much, panel

Thank you!

[moody electronic music plays]

[Maya] The MUAs now have an anxious wait...

to find out if any of them
have bagged big breaks from the panel

What I've seen today
is that they are hungry

They are hungry for this win

So tomorrow, it's all to play for

[upbeat music playing]

Find your chairs

[Maya] The MUAs are entering
Glow Up studios for the last time

With no red chairs and no time penalties

in today's creative brief,

they'll each have the same chance
to make it to the final Face Off

Aha

So, MUAs, it is your final creative brief
of the competition,

and we have one more surprise

Joining us today as your guest judge

and photographer is Rankin!

[all applaud]

[upbeat music playing]

At this stage of the competition,
the MUAs should be really, really good

[Maya] With over 30 years experience

working with some
of the biggest names in the business,

Rankin knows exactly
what makes the perfect image

I wanna see something
I can take a picture of

that's gonna be really memorable,

but at the same time,
precise and really detailed,

and as high-quality makeup as we can get

[camera shutter clicking]

I am really looking forward
to shooting your creative brief looks

MUAs, I have to commend you,

because yesterday was
your first-ever master class

and you guys absolutely killed it

- Congratulations
- Thanks

Kris, all of us were blown away
with your bravery

to take on a bald cap in 30 minutes

Oscar-nominated Amanda Knight wants you
to assist her as a trainee for the day

on a top-secret future project

- Oh, my God!
- [Manny] Congratulations

- [all applaud]
- Oh, my God. Thank you. [laughs]

Yong-chin, the panel loved
that you created an eye look

that showcased
your signature style and originality

Mona Leanne wants to offer you
a one-to-one master class

- Oh my God!
- I know, right?

- [squeals and laughs]
- [Dominic] Amazing

Yes!

And Space NK were so impressed
that they want to offer you

the chance to work on a shoot
creating eyeliner looks

for their customers

[softly] Oh, my God!

- [in normal voice] Oh, my God!
- [all cheer]

- Oh, my God
- [sobs] Thank you

- [Kris chuckles]
- [sniffles]

[sobs] I can just go home now

- [all laugh]
- No, don't

We got work to do
We got work to do. Come back

Lisa, the panel were wowed
by your passion and your skill

So, Loz Schiavo would like you

to assist her for a day
on her next project

[gasps] Oh, my God

And Terry de Gunzburg would love to create

a bespoke palette with you

- Are you joking?
- [Kris] Oh, my God!

- Yay!
- [all cheer]

I am not joking!

[all applaud]

[sobs] Oh, my God

What?

[laughs] Thank you

These bookings are incredible
for your careers

So, well done, guys

- Well done
- [all applaud]

Over the course of this competition,

your artistry and skills
have grown and transformed

So, for your final creative brief,

we want you to produce a look

that is inspired
by your makeup metamorphosis

This is your final chance to unleash
everything creatively you have to offer

So don't hold back
Show us the MUA you plan to be

in the next chapter of your makeup career

[intriguing music plays]

Sadly, the MUA who impresses the least

will be going home
at the end of this creative brief

So for the final time,
bring in the models!

[bold electronic music playing]

[Kris] Ah, hello!

How's it going?

Good, how are you?

All right. You have two and a half hours

Best of luck, everyone

Off you go!

[Kris vocalizes]

[Maya] The MUAs have been allowed
to prepare for their final creative brief

[makeup bottles clatter]

[Yong-chin] I know,
I'm just smashing the place up

[softly] Right, I'm just gonna start
with flattening the hair, I think

[tense music plays]

I feel so ridiculous running
around here in my kimono like, "Ah!"

[Yong-chin chuckles]

Okay. I think we're good to go

I have quite a lot to do,

so I definitely need to be super on it

[mellow music plays]

[Maya] Yong-chin's look is based

on the small
but powerful poisonous dart frog

[Yong-chin] I feel like
in this competition, my small ideas

have made the biggest impact

So I wanted it to be
based off this dart frog,

but also still have,
like, elements of my style,

like pop culture, club kids in it

So I'm aiming for this look
to be really symmetrical

I'm just gonna try
and keep myself on track

and get everything on
as quickly and as perfectly as I can

Just gonna glue your brows down

- Yeah. Is that actual Pritt stick?
- It is

[model] From a primary school?

Which is ironic
because I'm a primary school teacher

- [model] Oh, very cool
- [chuckles]

[ambient music plays]

[Maya] Lisa hopes
her pink and green nature spirit,

bursting through black, will reflect
her journey in the competition

I've gained so much confidence

So there's gonna be a big paint strike
through the middle

that shows me coming

from that sort of shadowy,
staying, like, out of the way,

into, like, full color
and, like, confidence, basically

I wanted to go extra
with my prosthetics today

and try to get five on

It is loads to do in the time
[chuckles nervously]

[Kris] It's been a long journey
of rough and ready

And I just want
this one to be really good

[dramatic music plays]

[Maya] By evolving his chameleon look
from week one into a fierce dragon,

Kris wants to demonstrate
how his skills have matured

[Kris] I think I started off
a little bit meek,

but then, like, kinda going
through the whole competition,

it kinda showed me
how much, like, I actually want this,

and I kinda wanted that
to show through in this look now

Just like this, like, fierce creature
And like, this is it. This is what I do

[model] Why does that feel so good?

- A little head massage for you
- [both laugh]

Yeah

[gentle suspenseful music plays]

[Val] I'm really excited
that they're all using prosthetics

because it feels
like they feel very confident

And so they should. They're in the final

- [Manny] Mm-hmm
- Yeah, I'm slightly nervous

I was hoping we'd get
a very strong makeup look

[Yong-chin] I'm using
the prosthetic upside down

I really like the idea of, like, you know,

enhancing the cheekbones
but in a different way

I'm just wondering if she's placing
that prosthetic in the right place

It looks symmetrical with the points

- This side is really close to the lip
- Closer in. Yeah, it's the mouth

[Rankin] She's moving it

There we go. It's better now

[mellow music playing]

[model] Which ones are the hardest?

So the cheeks and the forehead,
I need to get symmetrical

Oh, my hands are shaking

[gasps softly]

- And they're symmetrical, mate
- Nice

[Kris] This will need
to come down slightly

That's better

[Rankin] Is it a unicorn?

Oh my God, I hope so

My Little Pony?

It's gone on well. Just look
straight ahead for me for a second

Yeah, cool

[Yong-chin] Okay, let's start sketching

[Manny and Dominic] Ooh!

It's genius to sketch with a white liner
'cause it's so much easier to take off

Pro tip, sketch with a white liner

[Val] I like that Yong-chin
is standing behind the model

- Looking...
- It's not quite symmetrical, is it?

She's sketching, she's sketching

I feel like she knows what she's doing
I like her technique

I'm kind of getting a little bit bored
with all the prosthetics

- [all laugh]
- I mean, really?

- [Manny] Yeah, we have to wait
- [Val] They're running out of time

Okay

Let's paint

Is that... Where's the fifth? Oh!

Sorry, I thought
that was your natural chin there

Are you nervous?

You have always been a little bit
of a worrier throughout, haven't you?

Even when you've been absolutely fine

I've got this voice in my head telling me,

like, "You have no training in makeup
You don't know how to do this."

Yeah, I just worry
that I'm not... not good enough,

but this competition has
definitely shown me that I am

Yeah, you are. You're supposed to be here

[Lisa] I'm base painting, basically
I'm going for an ombré from pink to green

Her color work is sublime

and actually still maintain

and they were able to appreciate it
So, I'm happy

[both] Oh!

I'm going to just keep thinking

Um, but still keeping
that finesse. [laughs]

[Maya] Before they battle it out
to be crowned winner,

I mean, it's just sheer beauty

You feel like you are looking at glass

So realistic and just stunning

Wow

[Dominic] The vibrancy
of those colors blending together,

but also bouncing off each other

Out of this world

So let's look at Yong-chin's work

I mean, this blew my mind

[Val] I've never seen anything
like this sort of makeup before

This was where I started to see

what Yong-chin was about,
an artist, an illustrator, a painter

[Val sighs happily]

This blew me away

The line work

The attention to detail

[Dominic] And so vivid and striking

She's laid down color flawlessly

I see editorial

I see catwalk

This was a real win for me

Each MUA is so highly skilled
and accomplished

It's all to play for

Final Face Off

[Maya] And the stakes couldn't be higher

Lisa and Yong-chin are competing
for a money-can't-buy prize,

a contract working with some
of the biggest MUAs in the business

This is gonna fast-track their career

It's an opportunity most makeup artists
could only dream of

[pulsing electronic music plays]

The last Face Off, and I just want
to get in there and smash it

I'm getting closer and closer
and this is literally the final obstacle

between me and winning

If I could actually do this. [laughs]

[Maya] To decide who takes the prize,

Lisa and Yong-chin will face off
over a set of identical twins

[tense music playing]

Two exceptional MUAs stand before us,

but there can be only one winner

For your final Face Off,

we are looking for a fashion full beat

We want you to do
a smoked eye using three colors,

yellow into blue,

blue into black,

and the black will be
your smoked-out liner

[Dominic] We want a flawless natural skin,
a brushed brow,

and a tinted glazed lip

This is the final, so every element
of your look must be perfectly executed

Good luck

You have 30 minutes

And your time starts now

[suspenseful music playing]

[Val] The Face Off is our chance
to scrutinize their technical ability

To succeed in this industry,

you need to be able to work
under pressure and deliver

Yong-chin has gone bold and big

Lisa is bringing the beauty

It's not just a pretty makeup

There is a lot of invisible technicalities
that they've got to get right

You've got to get the shape right first

You've gotta get the color packed down

Blush, lips...

[both] Brows

[Val] Yeah, there's a lot to be done

Fifteen minutes left. You're halfway

Lisa's, I like the way
the shape lifts the model's eyes,

but I just need her to pack
some more color on there

- It's looking a little faded
- Yes

And the trouble with Yong-chin
is she's gone too much, too heavy

She needs to be able
to control it and not go too far

- All to play for
- It really is

Yes

[Dominic] The thing about Lisa
is she delivered

a great blend of the blue and the yellow,

and she even incorporated a little bit
of a deeper color into the socket

to elongate and lift that eye shape

It's actually really beautiful

And I loved the bold color of Yong-chin's

It was like, "Bam! I'm gonna get it on."

The pigment is incredible

And the oval shape
she's created is full, it's colorful

I can't keep my eyes off it

[Val] They're both so talented
It is such a tough decision

[Dominic] But...

[Dominic] I think so

I would still be teaching,

but thinking, "Oh, I'd really...
I'd really love to chase my dream."

I know I can do it now,
like 100% I can do it

So, yeah, I feel like a winner
as well, to be honest. [laughs]

[laughs]

[Yong-chin] I just feel buzzed

I think it just shows
if you just sort of keep going,

keep putting in your all
into every single thing you can do,

you can make it all the way

I'm so happy. I'm so happy that I won it

[uplifting music continues]
