Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star (2019–…): Season 1, Episode 3 - Social Media - full transcript

Food flies and tears flow with social-media video challenges that include using edibles as makeup and applying a full face while blindfolded.

[Stacey] It's time to Glow Up.

-[phone alert]
-Oh, Stacey's just text us.

[Steph] Oh, 'ey up.

-What did she say?
-[Paige] Read the text! Read the text!

Hi, guys, I'm ever so sorry.
I am running sort of slightly late today.

You'll have to bear with me,
my makeup artist's a bit of a nightmare.

Just a bit less, babe.

That's my signature look.
Oh, hey, guys!

-[screaming]
-Oh!

-Oh!
-No!

[screaming]

[Stacey] Why the hysterics?

Well, because like millions of others,

these MUAs grew up watching
Nikkie de Jager

on her award-winning
online makeup channel.

It's me, Nikkie, hello.

Ten years ago, at the age of just 14,
she switched on her webcam...

This is my first makeup tutorial.

...and turned her bedroom hobby into
a major money-making makeup career.

Ah! So exciting!

Aah! Whoo!

Producing star-studded content...

-I'm Bebe Rexha.
-Oh, my God.

-Hi, guys.
-Kim Kardashian West!

...winning over 22 million followers...

Oh, my God! What?

...not to mention
lots of advertising revenue.

Social media I feel like has really
changed the makeup industry.

We now have something on our phone where
people are like, "Oh, that could be me."

She is a social media success story...

Wow.

...and the perfect guest judge.

-[screaming and laughing]
-Hi!

-Hello! Aww!
-Oh, my God!

-How are you? Oh, my God!
-[Stacey] Guys, take a seat.

Get yourself comfy on the sofas.

[Paige] Oh, God, she's real! [laughs]

More than 700 million

beauty-related videos

are watched monthly.

So the assignment for you guys this week

is to see whether you're capable

of producing content

that's A, worth watching,

and B, worth liking.

Having an online presence can really help
build your brand

if you get things right

and you get noticed.

So today, we're gonna pair you up,

and in your pairs, you're gonna create

a social media makeup challenge video.

[Dominic] And the winning pair...

might just be doing a video
with, uh... Nikkie.

[all laughing]

-I'm sayin' it!
-[cheering]

[Stacey] So, Leigh,
we're gonna put you with Belinda.

Paige, you're with Steph today.

Ellis, you're with Nikki today.

And that means we got Brandon with Tiff.

Just remember,

passion, personality.

And who knows,

you might be filming with me!

-[laughs]
-[all gasping]

Off you go! Good luck.

Today's assignment will test the MUAs

on the biggest online makeup trend
of the moment.

Opposite hand makeup challenge.

This challenge is to use
edibles as makeup.

The makeup challenge dares viewers

to apply makeup in unusual
and totally unnecessary ways.

The basics are,
you wanna connect with the watcher.

I wanna see their personality.
I wanna see...

you know, their passion for makeup.

That, guys, concludes this full face
using only the opposite hand

makeup challenge.

Each of the MUA pairs
have been given a different challenge.

-Go on.
-Ellis and Nikki's...

What are your ideas?

...is to apply makeup
with one of them blindfolded.

I think it needs to be high-energy,
personal, and fun.

This challenge was made for me.

-You ready? Let's go, let's go.
-Yeah. Aaah!

Nikki is no stranger to social media.

In her spare time,
she's a beauty makeup vlogger.

I have 145,000 followers on YouTube

and nearly 25,000 on Instagram.

Do you think we should move more here,
so the chairs are like this?

[Nikki] There is a lot of pressure.

Let's just practice it
as if this was my setup.

God, I really want to win.

Belinda and Leigh's video challenge
is perhaps more practical.

[Belinda] Go, go, go!

Applying makeup in the back of a cab.

-[Nikkie] Guys...
-[gasps]

Do we have a plan?

We're just going to go with our own style,
like, see what happens.

-Got it.
-Bounce off each other.

Remember, when you're talking
to your audience,

lock eyes with the camera.

-Okay, yeah. That's good advice, yeah.
-Okay.

[Leigh] Bye!

[laughs]

Brandon and Tiffany's video challenge

is to apply makeup
while working out '80s style in a gym.

If we have five minutes,
how are we gonna fit everything in?

After being in the bottom two last week,

whatever the brief was today,

I already knew that I was gonna have
my fighting mindset on.

So if we do four minutes
and then one minute for intro and outro?

Yeah, that sounds good.

Oh wait, how is everything gonna stick
when we'll be sweating, though?

-[laughs] You just ask for...
-Oh, my God!

Getting makeup to stick isn't going to be
a problem for Steph and Paige...

-in their challenge video.
-[Paige] Oh, my God. Ew, what is that?

[Steph] I think that's jelly, is it?

...because they're not
using makeup at all.

That is marmalade.

They're using food.

Okay, let's get down to business.

I have to wear the hat first.

For Paige, and all the MUAs,

pulling off these challenges will require
planning and on-screen confidence.

Defo found my confidence in makeup.

That's why I have
such a great passion for it.

'Cause of how confident I am, it's like,

I don't watch other people,
I watch myself.

That's why I've learned not to over plan,

is because things won't look exactly
the same way you put on pen and paper.

That's why I've learned in life not to do.

-Shall we get some ideas down?
-Oh, look, a whiteboard.

What the MUAs have to do is really plan.
They need to plan ahead.

They need to understand
what they're trying to get across...

I'm gonna put whatever.

...and then deliver it
in a really timely fashion.

I'm gonna be like, "Oh, Paige,
you need, like, a splash of color,"

-and then just go thwack!
-[both] Oof!

I don't want it to be, like,
too structured and too planned

because that's when it becomes unfunny.

[Nikkie]
In order to make a perfect makeup video,

just be yourself.

-Hey guys, so I'm Brandon.
-Hey! I'm Tiffany.

Lock eyes. Look in the lens.

-Hi, guys!
-Hey, guys!

And make it entertaining.

-And this is where we come in. [laughs]
-Exactly.

We're gonna show you today
how to transform your face. [slurps]

[Steph] By just using the products
that you've got in your larder.

-[Paige] And we...
-But first of all...

-Yep.
-...we need to get ready.

So what you will need is some tissue roll
for your outfit.

[Steph] Go! You roll... I'll roll!

-Roll, roll, roll.
-Oh, crap!

Okay. Wow, you look fabulous.

[Leigh] This is the neatest

cut crease you've ever had in your life.

Belinda and Leigh have already forgotten

one of Nikkie's cardinal rules -

engage with the camera, not each other.

It feels good. It feels like
you're doing the right thing.

I am doing the right thing.

For Leigh, it's not just video challenges
which are a new experience,

it's makeup itself.

I've been only doing makeup
for nine months,

trying to learn things from YouTube
and online tutorials.

Leigh came late to the colorful world
of makeup for good reason.

He's color-blind.

I've always loved being creative,
I've always loved art.

I did wanna pursue a career
in an artistic industry,

up until my tutors at college said,

"If you're color-blind,
you're looking in the wrong direction,"

and it completely shattered me.

It's only when I'm experimenting more
that I'm like, "It's not holding me back."

I can still create exciting stuff
even though I can't see the colors.

45 minutes in, and Nikkie's keen
to see how the teams are getting on.

I'm adding some depth into my lip.
What are you doing, Tiffs?

Um... [laughs]

Have you guys thought of doing closeups?

-Every time we switch exercise...
-Good.

...we've gone in.

-This is too good to miss out on.
-[Tiffany laughs]

-'Cause the outfits are perfect!
-[Brandon] Yeah!

[Steph] We now just need to get
some color on our faces.

In the kitchen, Paige and Steph
are now into cooking up the video.

If you don't have a makeup brush...
you know, those cost a lot of money...

Pfft. Grab yourself a spatula, just...

[laughs] Just like...

-There you go.
-That is your perfect shade.

[Paige] You could literally
just blend it out.

[gasps] Did we even record?

Oh! [laughs] oh, Paige!

Oh, I should [bleep] die right now.

-If you didn't...
-You did push record...

[laughs]

I swear to God, Paige.

It didn't even [bleep] record.
Oh, my life.

Paige, are you kidding?!

Bitch, I'm gonna have
to [bleep] redo the [bleep]. Ugh!

-I can't believe you didn't record!
-I'm stressed.

Start again. Jesus!

Suck your cheeks in for me.

Upstairs, me and Nikkie can see Nikki,

but Nikki can't see a thing.

-[both laughing]
-I can't feel it.

[whispers] Are you sure about that color?

[laughing]

She just whispered into my ear.
I can't hear.

[laughing] I can't.

I can't actually hear.

-[Nikkie] Good luck!
-Thank you.

You've literally got

-Give me the clock.
-13 minutes.

-Okay.
-Let's keep it going.

Leigh and Belinda have made it
out of their taxi and into the edit.

[Leigh] How much footage
is left altogether now?

-[editor] Just over 34 minutes.
-Oh, God, right.

-We've got...
-We need to get ruthless with it.

-Just find the funny bits.
-Yeah, okay.

-So our plan in terms of editing...
-Can we, um...

[Brandon]...is we wanna have
two minutes introducing it,

-then the rest being about the workout...
-Just have it...

...and then having maybe a minute
at the end just closing everything off.

And it's take two for Paige and Steph.

First of all, we need a base.

Huh.

-Get yourself a spatula... There you go!
-[chuckles]

Okay. So...

Girl, you need a bit...
you need a bit more.

-You need to go full coverage here.

so it's gonna be pretty easy to edit.

-We need that at the end.
-Yeah.

-That's all we need.
-That's all.

Can we just watch it through
from the beginning?

[Stacey] And, with three teams
just about finished...

-Yes!
-[gasps] Oh, my God!

Fast, fast, fast! Yeah, like that!

Delete the rest! Delete that bit!
Delete it! Delete, delete!

Guys, I'm the bearer of bad news,
I'm afraid. You've got 30 seconds!

Okay! Soften the end bit! Thank you, sir!

It stinks of chocolate in here.

It smells like beauty, sis!

-You mean a fade-out?
-Yes!

-Lovely.
-Yes, please.

That's it, done, time's up.

-Please stop what you're doing.
-[sighing]

[Paige] Oh, my God.
Gimme a high five, sis!

I'm so sorry. I'm shaking right now.

-I'm...
-So are you feeling confident?

I'm dripping with confidence.

Aaah! I feel... I'm so pumped right now.

I'm amazing.

I am literally amazing.

I don't understand, I'm so talented.

See, that was not a fluke,
that was talent.

It's time for the judges to view the
videos. But will they like and subscribe?

First up, it's Ellis and Nikki.

Why don't you do my makeup blindfolded?

Oh... it stinks!

These are my range of colors.
And I'm gonna go in with this brush.

I'm having a little trouble
with the pacing.

Sometimes I want more and then they're
out, and sometimes I want less.

I don't want to see them
talking about picking it.

I just wanna see
the brush go into random colors.

[Nikki] I'm going in with confidence.

-Confidence is key.
-Yeah. Bam!

[Ellis] Shut up!

Oh, no, went a bit too far.

-This is good. This is fun.
-[Val] That's good.

-Blend it out with a really fluffy brush.
-Like this one...

-They're finding that pace.
-[Dominic] Yeah.

-Sometimes I like to do the nose a bit.
-Yeah?

-Looks cute.
-He doesn't look convinced.

[laughing]

[Nikki and Ellis] Three!

[laughs]

I did quite well!

That was good!

-I felt really engaged.
-[both] Yeah.

-They had such a great chemistry together.
-Mm-hm.

-It made me laugh.
-Right.

-Tick.
-Tick. Can't wait to see the next one.

So, this is Steph and Paige
,and they had food.

One thing you should know is that about...

-an hour in...
-Yeah.

...I was going to check up on the girls

and I noticed that there was no food
on the face.

And it's because they took everything off
because nobody pressed record.

-[Paige] Yes!

-I have no words!

-That was so bad. [laughing]
-It was just slapstick, really.

They could have made
an incredible painting.

They could have cut up fruit and cucumbers

and, like, made this amazing facial
sculpture that looked like makeup.

Next is Tiffany and Brandon.

Hey, guys!

-We're gonna be starting with our base...

-Great idea!

We're gonna bend our knees down.

Oh, I love it.

There was passion

'cause you could tell that
they loved doing the makeup.

There was a lot of personality
from both of them.

They came across really genuine.

-[both] Mm.
-Like, they weren't putting on a façade.

Tick!

Okay,
so next up we have Belinda and Leigh.

As the MUA hopefuls arrive
for today's brief,

the judges are in the studio deciding
which two least impressed yesterday.

-The food team.
-Pfft.

Apart from chocolate spread and custard,
there was no makeup.

I mean, did they do any planning?

[Val] The other team

was Leigh and Belinda.

They didn't think about

They were in a taxi

There was nothing.

-Are you ready?
-[all] Yeah.

Find your names on the back of the chairs
and get yourselves settled, please.

If an MUA's name

they're heading into the elimination

I don't think me and Steph are at risk
of being in the Face Off chairs,

The only way to escape the Face Off

I felt like we did such a good job.

So frustrating.

[Val] You just can't do that. You can't

Okay?

You're gonna get out of it.

Yeah, just treat it like a normal...
like you would a...

-15 minutes, and you work so quick.

-You've got this, yeah?
-Yeah.

Yeah, I'm fine. It's just... I just felt
like anxiety

-was just taking over me right now.
-Yeah.

[whispers] You'll slay it, so...

[Stacey] Okay.

Steph, Paige,
I know this is very upsetting,

but being a makeup artist,

it's absolutely ruthless out there.

You gotta fight.

You've got to have a thick skin.

So, we want something spectacular.

[Val] For today's creative brief,

we want you to celebrate your strengths

and expose your weaknesses.

We want you to do a half-and-half makeup.

And this week, there are no models.

Your face is your canvas.

Paige and Steph,
we will let you know when to begin,

but for the rest of you,
you have two and a half hours

and your time starts... now.

Like video challenges,

half-and-half makeup
is a huge online trend.

The MUA wannabes
will have to create two distinct looks

on one face.

The split doesn't need to be
straight down the middle,

but the judges will want
to see two clear looks

that represent both the seen and unseen
sides of their personality.

I feel like I'm gonna piss myself.

For today's creative brief, the MUAs
have been allowed to prepare beforehand.

[Brandon] Basically, my concept is
the metamorphosis of a butterfly.

The reason I think it represents me well

is because when I get knocked down,
all I do is get back up.

[sighs] Okay.

[Belinda] With this piece,
I'm really trying to show

that I want my creativity to flow.

So this side's gonna be, um,

more natural
and have, like, the illusion of a tear,

and I want it to be a real contrast
to the painty, creative side.

As the other MUAs get started,

all Paige and Steph can do
is look on and wait.

I'm glad I'm not in a chair.

If I had to start 15 minutes later,
it would be detrimental to the look.

I'm praying today because
I have a lot to do.

-[cracks knuckles]
-I just want to show them

that I can manage my time.

Paige,

Steph,

your time starts now.

Loving this.

Thank you!

My plan is to do sort of an...
almost an illusion.

Half the face is gonna be monochromatic
sort of illusion, black and white.

And the other side's gonna be
all color.

Black and white is how I've always
kind of held myself back,

and, you know, the color is me sort of
coming into my..., finding my own feet.

Oh, I love that.

Nikki's look is about shedding
her glam image from her beauty vlogs

and revealing a more creative side
which lies beneath.

The white will represent paper,

and the breaking of it is me trying
to break out of my mold.

After a tearful start,

there's more tears for Paige,

but this time, it's all part of a plan.

My look is called "Tears of a Clown".

Clowns make people happy,

and they bring joy, and they're always,
like, joking about and being silly.

And that is like...

My positive trait about me is
I always wanna make people laugh,

but I'm going to make it a sad clown

because I keep a lot of my emotions
bottled up,

so deep down I'm, like, really sad.

So, I'm creating tears

using a hot glue gun

'cause I wanted something
a little bit more 3D to add to my look.

-What is that?
-This is me here.

The green color represents
the envy and jealousy I get from

people who don't work as hard as me,
but get better results than I do.

It's really weird, because

normally, when I do my makeup,

I'll have you, like,
down here on a phone screen...

-Me?
-Watching your videos.

Oh, we can do that.

-But instead, this time...
-Wait, I can do that.

You're here in my mirror.

Hello, guys. It's me, Nikkie. Hello.

Leigh's two-faced look

reflects how his life is affected
by self-doubt and color-blindness.

but is it yellow?

[Ellis] Mm... Stand behind me.

Stand behind me. Oh, it's really yellow.

-Yeah.
-And a bit pale.

-What's... What's going on?

I'm struggling to match my skin tone
under this light.

-Right.
-I struggle with it anyway,

being color-blind, but when I put it on
it just looked a bit too yellow.

-Okay.
-So I'm trying again.

So what colors can't you see?

Uh, I struggle with red, is the biggest,

so anything with red in,
so brown and green look the same,

uh, blue and purple look the same,

but skin tones is the hardest for me.

Because the nuances are so minute,
but it can make such a big difference

-if you get it wrong.
-Yeah.

-Good luck.
-Can't wait to see it.

[whispers] Damn it.

[sniffles]

-Where's Leigh gone?
-I don't know.

I really would love to understand what it
is people with color-blindness see,

because it...

I mean, it must be such...
such a surreal world,

but it's all that they've known.

But on here I feel like I'm not seeing
what it's like to be color-blind.

That look doesn't give me color-blind.

-No.
-At all.

I knew it had bothered me, not being able
to match the skin tone properly.

Then, I talked about
being color-blind straight after.

That's where
I've just had a little meltdown.

MUAs, you are halfway through.

-Are you okay?
-Yeah, just being a drama queen.

-I'm excited. I can't wait to see it.
-Yeah, I can't.

-Yeah, I'm really excited.
-Thank you.

I come across pretty calm,

-So...

-That looks so...
-I feel a lot better now, yeah.

-MUAs, you have three minutes left.
-How you doing?

-Are you not gonna finish?

I need to do my eyes,

do my lips,

and do the writing.

Oh, God.

MUAs, finishing touches.

Aww.

That's it. Time's up.
Down with your brushes.

[Leigh] Thank you!

[whimpers]

MUAs, take yourselves next door
to be photographed.

Am... Am I gonna fit through the door?
[chuckles]

It's not how you fall down,
it's how you get back up that counts.

Everyone thinks that because
I'm a bubbly person,

like, nothing's wrong with me, but...

I just kept all my emotions,
like, bottled up,

and I'm always putting on a front
and a mask, which is this.

First up, we have Tiffany, please.

The whole concept behind it is stepping
out of black and white and into color,

because I've always held myself back.

I feel like I'm finally
coming into my own.

Oh, I love it.

I really love it. It's amazing!

[Dominic] It's so difficult
to do grayscale.

Just a little too much black

and it just goes horribly, horribly wrong.

[Nikkie] Right now, it's an A+.

if you want to make it an A++,
make that black.

-[Tiffany] Yes!
-It's killing the illusion a little.

Like this, "Oh, my days,"

like this, I'm like, "Oh, my God."

-Oh, my days. Oh, my God.
-[laughter]

Ding dong. Marvelous.

[Dominic] Can we have Belinda, please?

[Belinda] On the one side, I wanted
to capture how vulnerable I am sometimes,

and I think it holds me back in
my work a lot.

And then to contrast that,
I wanted to really just let go.

So I just saw where the paint took me.

I am so proud of you.

You were...

I'm gonna say it...

-kind of forgettable.
-Mm.

But you have delivered something
which I didn't think was in you.

That tear

is just pure artistry.

When you let go,
this is what you produce.

[Nikkie] I can't wait for you to post
this, because it's gonna go viral,

and people are gonna stick brushes
through their head bands,

and sit at home,
and be like "The paintbrush challenge."

They're gonna do it.

Aww!

Ding dong. Marvelous.

That's all I'm saying.

Leigh.

So, Leigh,

what's it all about?

[Leigh] One of my worst traits
has always been bad self-talk.

It's also to represent
me being color-blind,

which is why
there's not a lot of color in this look.

I'm fascinated by color-blindness,

because we live in a world of color
and I don't know what you see.

I want to see what you see.

I want to see that in this,

but this isn't the half-and-half story
that we were looking for.

Okay.

I love how it's becoming veiny in part
of the skin here and then I'm, like,

"Why didn't you implement that here?
What's happening here?" You know?

So the idea is there, but...

you just gotta... take it up a notch
to let everyone see it.

-Thank you.
-[Dominic] Thank you.

Thank you.

[Dominic] Ellis.

[Ellis] I do feel like
I fulfilled the brief.

I've definitely showed the positive side,
like my comfort zone,

and the kind of, like, pukey green side
is the envious side.

It's so beautifully executed.
It's given me goosebumps,

Like, it's really, really beautiful.
Well done.

[Val] It feels fresh. It feels modern.

It doesn't feel too labored.

-Totally marvelous.
-Marvelous.

-Well done.
-[Val] Loved it.

-[Dominic] Thank you.
-Thank you.

[Val] Brandon.

[Dominic] It is so beautifully done.

I love the blending. You've really mixed
those colors to create that specific shade

which works perfectly with the gold,

and as a piece of art,
I think it's amazing.

I would hang this in my kitchen

so I could stare at it every day.

Marvelous.

Marvelous.

Thank you.

Nikki,
if we look at this here

I get a story,

but here it just looks
a little bit separated.

It looks like two different makeup ideas.

And what I'm a little bit, sort of...

annoyed about is that
you've done this before.

So you've practiced this look.

When you practiced,
how long did it take you?

-About four hours.
-Yeah.

So you're missing the depth,

you're missing the shadow,

and it comes down to time management.

Steph, please step forward.

Steph started the day
in one of the Face Off chairs.

To escape,
she needs her look to really hit home.

[Steph] I was severely bullied
when I was, erm, of a young age.

So I really wanted to portray
the dark side that I have,

but in contrast
to my bright and bubbly exterior.

You knocked it into next week!

-[laughs]
-It was amazing!

Amazing!

I have a professional makeup artist
standing in front of me.

You know why?
Because you've gotta have a thick skin.

You've gotta have a thick skin because you
get shit thrown at you every single day.

Today, you came into the room,
"Oh, I'm in the chair,"

but I could see that you were like,
"Right, okay, I've got this.

Yeah, I've got this."

Ding dong,
and thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank you!

Whoo! Whoo!

You nailed it, girl.

[sobbing]

-Are you happy?
-[weeping] I am!

[Val] Paige, please come forward.

The brief was two faces.

We needed two faces,
and you've given me half the story.

You haven't given me the other side.

This is not... This is not...
This is not good enough.

[sighs]

The powder's a bit... blish.

And the... the nose has got
some color on one side.

[Val] Had you tried
the lash technique before?

Um... no.

Sorry, it's really frustrating me.

You could do this. You could so do this.

And you're not giving...

yourself...

the chance.

You can't wing it every day.

Thank you.

[sighs]

Thank you so much, artists,
for baring your soul.

If you'd like to go through
to the other room,

we will be deliberating to find out
which two are gonna be in the Face Off.

She's done what she's always done
throughout the entire challenge.

She's blagged it.

Listen, there's nothing wrong
with winging it.

But at least when you wing it,

-make it good.
-Mm.

[Nikkie] This is not good.

It's ju... It's boring.

Nothing in this industry should be boring.

He isn't delivering the level of artistry
that we're looking for.

With the level of talent
that we've got in the room, no.

She's an amazing artist, but she just...
she just didn't cut it.

She's not ready yet.

It's just disappointing.

[Stacey] Hey.

As you know, Paige, Steph,

you both found yourselves
in the Face Off chairs this morning.

The question is have you done enough today
with your creative brief

to get yourselves out of those chairs?

The first MUA in the Face Off is...

Paige.

-I know.
-You didn't prepare enough and it showed.

Mm-hm.

Steph.

Congratulations, you beat the seat.

-Amazing!
-[applause]

Awesome.

However, that does mean
we need one more MUA

to be part of the Face Off.

The second MUA

in the Face Off

is Leigh.

You makeup just wasn't comprehensive
enough.

[Stacey] I'll bring them through.

-Thank you.
-Thank you, Val. Thanks, Dominic.

Leigh, Paige, you've found yourselves
in the Face Off elimination.

The rest of you guys, congratulations.

Please say your goodbyes. It might be
the last time you see them.

I'm very disappointed in myself
for landing myself in this position,

but there's nothing I can do now.

What's happened's happened,
and I'm gonna face it head-on.

I'm... literally got the fighting spirit
back and I'm ready.

[Leigh] I am nervous.

If my emotions get out of control, I can't
perform, I can't... do what I need to do.

I... I wanna stay here more than anything.
I am not finished yet.

To see who goes home
and to keep things fair,

Leigh and Paige will make up
identical twins.

So, you know the score.
You understand situation you're in.

This is your last chance

to show our judges what you're made of,
what you've got.

[Dominic] MUAs,

for the Face Off, we want you to take on

one of the biggest
makeup trends on social media.

You have 12 minutes
to create a colorful cut crease eye

using the products in front of you.

A staple of any MUA's bag of tricks,

a cut crease creates the illusion
of bigger and brighter eyes

by defining where
the eyelid meets the lower brow,

otherwise known as the crease.

The first thing the MUAs should do

is get a dark powder

and start sketching out

where this crease should be.

Then they wanna go in
with a bright color on the lid.

Next, the MUAs should take up
a medium tone eyeshadow

and work along that new crease,
giving it a soft finish.

Lastly, they should pick up some glitter

and pop it on the inside edge of the eye

to finish the look.

You have 12 minutes,

and your time starts...

Now. Good luck, guys.

The key to a cut crease
is making sure that socket

is beautifully crisp and sharp.

What I don't want to see
is anything soft and wishy-washy.

[Stacey] Guys,
you're halfway through your time,

six minutes have passed.

[Val] I don't know
if they know what a cut crease is.

You'd be getting in here,
you know what I mean?

-No one's leading here.
-No.

It's neck and neck.

Guys, you've got three minutes left.

Oh, Jesus.

[sighs]

At the moment, there is not a cut crease
in sight for me.

Look at me.

[Stacey] 30 seconds remaining.

[Leigh sighs heavily]

Five,

four,

three,

two, one.

Please stop what you're doing.

Come here.

-[sobbing]
-Come on. Come on.

-Come on.
-[sobs]

Judges, please may you take a look
at the work.

[Val] We need a conflab.

-Okay.
-Thank you.

[Dominic] I am so...

shocked that neither of them
could actually deliver.

One of them was really messy,

yet the other one was just a bit flat.

I think
it's a very, very difficult decision.

[Dominic] However,
one has got more precision than the other.

And we asked for precision,
and we asked for balance.

Yeah.

Okay, come on, then. Let's do it.

Happy?

[Val] Yes.

Neither MUA delivered a cut crease.

One of them had precision,
but lacked strength.

The other one had color,

but was a real mess.

Paige, get your kit.

You're going home.

Thank you.

[Stacey] Paige, I'm so sorry.

[sobbing]

Paige, do you know what?

It just wasn't meant to be.

It doesn't mean that this isn't the path
that you should follow.

It's just not right now, just not here.

Good luck with everything.

Take care, yeah?

Thank you, judges, so much.
I'm so sorry I disappointed you.

[Stacey] Leigh, congratulations.

[sobs]

[sighs]

That was probably the worse cut crease
I've ever seen in my life, so...

Uh... It was so ugly, like, I was just
looking at it, I just knew then, like...

ugh, I definitely disappointed myself.

But, even though it felt like
my whole world came crashing down,

I've still got a lot to come
in the future.

-[Leigh] Hello.
-[screaming]

[laughs] Yes!

[laughing]

[Leigh] Next week...

is gonna be A+ game,
never mind A game,

because I cannot
put myself through that again.

I love you!

-[laughter]
-Oh, Ellis.

[Stacey] Oh, Ellis!

Yeah!
