Ghost Hunters (2004–…): Season 15, Episode 1 - The Lost Souls of Joliet - full transcript

Dakota Laden, Tanner Wiseman and Alex Schroeder of "Destination Fear" join TAPS as they take on Old Joliet Prison. Unsettling paranormal activity has been ramping up at the now-shuttered penitentiary, and volunteers there are desp...

[Jason] Hello!

Hold up. There was just a
figure at the end of the hall.

Oh, my...

[Narrator] Joliet Prison
has a gruesome past.

We had riots, executions
and tortures.

[Rob] We had everything from
serial killers to mass murderers.

And, they never left.

[Narrator] Now remnants
of horror and evil remain.

[Nikki] I've actually had a
hand brush across my thigh.

I was terrified.

[Rob] There was a gentleman
roughly, seven-foot one,

and he vanished right
from my eyes.

[Narrator] The TAPS team brings on
special guests from Destination Fear...

[Tanner] What is that?

[Narrator] ...to confront
imprisoned souls.

Do you hate the guards?

[loud thud]

Whoa!

Okay.

I'm terrified.

If you want us to leave...

Whoa!

[Dakota] It feels like we're
walking next to someone.

[Jason] Or something's walking
next to us.

What the...

So, Old Joliet Prison,
Illinois.

- Here we are, back at another prison.
- [both laugh]

[Narrator] TAPS is headed
to Joliet, Illinois,

to investigate
Old Joliet Prison,

which housed notorious criminals
in barbaric living conditions,

for almost a century
and-a-half.

It was built in 1858,

- and it closed in like 2002.
- [Steve] Yeah.

[Jason] Lester
"Baby Face" Nelson,

- John Wayne Gacy was here.
- [Steve] Yeah.

And people were tortured here.
A lot of prisoners were tortured.

The place did do executions.

Now the Executive Director
of the prison,

he's noticed an uptick in
threatening paranormal activity.

- Visitors and the volunteers who work there.
- [Steve] Yeah.

[Steve] And he's afraid
for their safety.

Somebody felt somebody
grabbing their leg.

To actually be touched,
first of all and then grabbed.

- [Shari] Definitely need to check that out.
- [Dave] Right.

They're dealing with this, like, seven-foot
tall entity that they claim to see.

It just goes on and on.

Wow!

And we've got some good
friends joining us on this one.

We've got Dakota. We've got
Tanner and Alex from Destination Fear.

Unfortunately, Chelsea can't
make it

but Dakota and his team have
investigated this place in the past.

They have a good grip
on the lay of the land.

I think they're really gonn be
able to help us navigate this place.

- [radio static]
- Hey, Dave, Shari.

We have Dakota, Tanner
and Alex here with us.

We'll put them
to work tonight.

I'm so excited to see
them, man.

It's gonna be... it's gonna
be great

[Jason] Oh, here's
the prison.

- [Jason] Check this out.
- [Steve] Oh my gosh.

[Jason] Look at that.

That is huge.

Just keeps going and going.

[Narrator] TAPS case.

Old Joliet Prison,
Joliet, Illinois.

Hey Greg. Hey, thanks
for having us out here, man.

So, what's some of the history
of Old Joliet Prison.

Our history dates back prior to
even the Lincoln administration.

53 inmates came here and they
built the prison around themselves.

They mined the local
Joliet limestone

and built this imposing
16-acre structure.

It was designed to scare
the hell out of people.

And how many inmates
did they actually house here?

[Greg] By 1878, it filled
up with 2,000 prisoners.

You had no running water in the
cell houses until the late 1940's.

So, life here was
virtually unimaginable.

Any riots or anything
happen here?

[Greg] We had full-scale riots,
escapes, disturbances, fights.

[Jason] Now, I know they
carried out death sentences here.

We have records of 13 executions
just feet from where we're standing now.

Right above us actually,
was death row.

There was a gentleman named
Henry Williams,

he was being punished
by some form of water torture.

You were taken to a cold water
bath and dunked repeatedly.

Mr. Williams, in the course
of that torture, he was killed.

Another prisoner, Gus Reed, was latched
to his cell and he was whipped to death,

while screaming his own name.

This prison has seen
some strife.

- [Greg] Oh yeah.
- Yeah.

[Steve] So, you also mentioned there's
been some violent activity recently.

One of our tour guides
actually reported

that he had his arms scratched
to the point

where he could visibly
see marks on his arms.

Jeez. Okay.

I actually had a hand brush
across my thigh.

If somebody were to pass
a note or contraband,

that is the way they would
have done it

underneath the table across
someone's lap.

I was terrified.

We've had reports of a
towering figure in a blue jumpsuit.

[Rob] There was a gentleman
standing inside the old hospital building,

right behind the iron gates
which were locked.

Bluish style jumpsuit. Roughly
seven-foot, seven-foot one.

Searched the entire hospital

Nobody in there.

I come walking back down
the rear fire stairs,

and he's standing
by the front gate

that I have locked,
facing away from me.

And he vanished right in front
of my eyes.

[Narrator] The apparition
in the blue jumpsuit

is seen in numerous location
throughout the prison.

[Jason] What are some
of the other claims?

We've had reports of shadow
figures throughout the cell houses.

[Nikki] In cells 225 and 226
in the West cell house,

there are shadows that feels like
something does not want you in there,

and it feels aggressive
and angry.

One time, we had everything
from serial killers to mass murderers,

evil people.

Worst of the worst
came here at one time.

They never left.

I was in the East cell block
and we all heard some keys.

We saw a little point
of light,

kind of, like somebody was
walking, holding a flashlight.

A large dark shadow walked
clearly across the path.

I had no choice but to run.

So, what are you hoping that we're
able to accomplish for you here?

We're open to tours.

We want to make sure guests
are safe to explore here.

Uh, we want to make sure
that, you know,

we're respectful of the site
and its history

and of souls that may not have
fully departed here yet.

All right. I think from here we're
gonna go talk to the rest of the crew,

and start figuring out how to set
up equipment and go from there.

- [Jason] All right. So, how are we doing?
- Good. We're getting there.

- Yeah? Nice.
- Yeah.

I mean, the place is so big.
It's going to take a while.

[Jason] That's why we're
bringing the Destination Fear grou

They should be here
any minute.

Who are these
three stragglers?

- What's up?
- Hey.

- This is awesome.
- How's it going guys?

- Good.
- Yeah.

Good to see you brother.

[greeting indistinctly]

Oh, yeah. You guys
investigated here before.

This is one of our more
terrifying nights.

- I would say.
- [Jason] Really.

We were at the Joliet Prison
just over a year ago.

It's one of the most terrifying
prisons I've ever been to.

It's massive, it's ominous.

And, I think this is going to be
a perfect way to combine forces

at a location that really
needs a lot of people.

Where did you guys find to be
the most, like, terrifying spot for you?

North segregation.

I had an experience,
where I saw something,

and then, I got hit with, like, some type
of energy, my whole body went numb.

Holy [bleep] I'm about
to pass out, actually.

The hospital was also
extremely active for us.

We caught some type
of black mass

coming from the top
of the ceiling.

- What the... I've never...
- What is that?

Wow!

[Jason] This place
is pretty massive.

So, you guys are going
to be a huge help to us.

Want to give a hand
setting up?

- Yeah!
- Yeah, let's do it.

[Steve] Yeah.

A prison of this size,
let alone a prison in general,

always seem to be high when
it comes to paranormal activity

because of things that people have
gone through with who were there.

People have been tortured to
death, they've been beat to death.

Some have been executed. Some
have killed others while they've been here.

It's just a place with
a horrible past.

[Dave] How is this angle?

[Shari] That is
actually perfect.

[Jason] All right.
How're we doing?

Good. We're all set up. I mean,
we have cameras everywhere.

All right. So, I think
we're ready to go, right?

We are set.

Where do you guys
want to head first?

I don't know how happy
you're going to be to hear this,

but I really think we should go to
North segregation in the death row.

- Hmm-mmm.
- Of course.

Because that's where Tanner
had his experience.

- And maybe, you and I can head to the hospital.
- [Jason] I'm game with that.

Then you guys, you got East
and West wing.

I'm down. I'll do, uh,
let's do East.

Well, we don't have to go lights
out, since we don't have power.

- Let's get the equipment and get going.
- We're in it.

- All right. Let's do this. Let's do this guys.
- All right, guys.

[Jason] Let's go.

Jay and Steve heading
into the hospital.

This is where they've seen
that tall man in a blue jumpsuit.

[Steve] Ooh, Jay.

I mean, when you come
to a haunted prison,

this is pretty much exactly
what you think of.

[Jason] It really is.

[Steve] Hello!

[faint groan]

[Jason] What is that?

That sounded like a voice
going... [imitates groan]

- You heard that, right?
- I did.

[Steve] It's weird.

- Ooh!
- [Jason] Yeah.

- Down there, you're hearing it, too?
- Yeah.

[Jason] But, nothing's showing
up on the thermal.

[Dave] Shari and Dave walking
into the West wing.

This is where they've seen
apparitions of guards.

[Shari] Is there anybody
in here with us?

[Dakota] North Segregation,
death row.

Whoa! This is weird dude.

It's very bizarre being back.

Last time, it was
the second floor, death row,

where you and Alex,
had your encounters.

I feel like we gotta just
go up there.

- [Tanner] It's this way.
- [Dakota] Yeah.

There's something about
this floor

that is just a heaviness
and a darkness.

- This is worse than the first floor.
- A hundred percent.

Last time, you made your
presence known.

Can you do it again tonight?

- All right. Let's just...
- You saw that?

[Dakota] Yeah. I saw that.

[Tanner] Dude, you saw that?

That... Do you see... Is
that your light or a reflection?

[Dakota] I don't know. Here.

- Let's turn our flashlights off for a second.
- Okay.

[Alex] Yeah.

I'm gonna set the REM pod
on this crate.

Now, if there is anything
in here with us,

and you'd like to make
your presence known,

can you come up
to this red dot on the ground?

- And if you get next to it...
- [REM pod beeps]

...it will go off.

If you remember us,

can you touch that device?

- [loud noise]
- Whoa! What was that?

- [loud noise]
- Whoa! What was that?

- [Tanner] Okay.
- Was that a freaking gunshot?

Was that from outside?

That was a loud bang.

That sounded like it echoed
in here.

That's so freaking creepy,
dude. I don't like that.

We were told that two people, Gus
and Henry, passed away in this building.

If those two spirits and souls
are here,

can you make your presence
known by making a noise?

We heard that you screamed
to death.

Can you make that device
go off?

Can you touch that red light?

I definitely don't like this
room right behind me. This cell.

I just feel like someone's
right in there.

It doesn't feel like we're
alone at all.

[Tanner] No.

If there's anybody here, whether
you're a guard or an actual prisoner,

you know you can leave
now, right?

[Dave] So, they've seen a lot
of shadows

in these two particular cells
here, 225 and 226.

- All right. So, here's a REM pod.
- [REM pod beeps]

Okay, if you go near it, it's
just going to make noises.

- [REM pod beeps]
- [Shari] Like this.

[Shari] I'm going to leave a
bottle of alcohol and a cigarette.

All right. It's all yours.

[creaking]

- [Dave] Did you hear that?
- [Shari] Yeah, that was loud.

[Dave] Almost,
like a footstep.

PMF 0.1, 0.2

[indistinct sound]

- [Jason] That was a voice.
- [Steve] Yeah?

- [Jason] That was a voice.
- [Dave] Female... it sounded female, didn't it?

[Jason] Nope. No.
Oh! Oh, oh, oh...

- [Jason] And there was just something there.
- [Dave] Really?

[Jason] There was just...

It was just a figure
at the end of the hall.

Oh, my gosh.

[Jason] One hundred percent figure
at the end of the hall and it's not us.

I mean, I got you right there.

There's nothing there.

Yup, a hundred percent figure
at the end of the hall.

[Steve] Hello!

- [Steve] We think we may have seen you.
- [lady crying faintly]

[Steve] Walking?

There's just like a lady's voice right
before it, like... [imitates crying faintly]

That would be twice, we've
heard a female voice in here.

There's nothing there now.

There was one hundred percent
something at the end of the hall.

I was recording.

- You were.
- Right. My fingers...

- You saw it.
- Yeah. Oh yeah.

- [Jason] 100%.
- [Steve] Yes!

You want to go analyze it?

[Jason] I just want to go back
and put this on the computer

and just look
at it a real quick.

[Steve] Yeah.

- [Dakota] What was that?
- [REM pod beeps continuously]

Are you guys hearing anything
high pitched right now?

- [Tanner] No.
- [Alex] Hmm-mmm.

It was faint.

But I do want to Mark that.

I heard almost like a...
[imitates girls voice] Like a girl.

- [Tanner] What? Get outta here.
- Very high pitched but faint.

- You guys didn't hear anything?
- [Alex] No.

- [Dakota] I don't know why a girl?
- Why a female?

[Dakota] I don't know.

Can you speak again?

Why are you still here?

- [Alex] Whoa!
- [Tanner] The light just went off, dude.

That freaking flashlight.

- It's like trying to use it.
- [Tanner] Exactly.

[Tanner] Are you stuck here?

- [REM pod beeps]
- [Tanner] Dude, dude!

- [Tanner] It just went off.
- [Dakota] One beep.

[laughs nervously]

Dude, what is actually
going on here.

- [Dakota] Like, I feel like...
- [REM pod beeps]

- [Dakota] I feel...
- Dude!

- What the [bleep]?
- [Dakota] It's going off.

[REM pod continues to beep]

Every time I [bleep]
go into this room.

Every time.

- [Tanner] Cell 15.
- What is this cell?

[Dakota] This is weird.

- [Tanner] Do you not want Dakota to go in that cell?
- [indistinct sound]

[all] Whoa!

[Dakota] What is that?

Dude, I'm hearing...

- [all] Whoa!
- [Tanner] Again!

[Dakota] My flashlight just
flickered again.

[Dakota] What is that?

Dude, I'm hearing...

- [all] Whoa!
- Again!

[Dakota] My flashlight just
flickered again.

It hasn't done it when I've been
operating it. Only when I set it down.

Can you make that flashlight
flicker again?

Or touch the REM pod?

[indistinct sound]

- What was that?
- [Tanner] That was a voice.

I heard a voice in my...
With my own ears.

Straight voice. I captured it.

High pitched.

Oh. What was that?
Was that movement in there?

[Jason] This looks
like a face.

Oh, my God!

[Jason] Really, it does look
like a face.

[Steve] It almost does.
Like a skull, kind of.

- Hello!
- [Tanner] Hey! Hey! Hey!

- [Jason] Hey guys.
- How's it going, guys?

We just had some
interesting activity.

So, we were up in death row,

and I set my flashlight down to
give us just some ambient light,

and out of nowhere my
flashlight started flickering.

And, it stopped.

And, it went off again.

And so, we're like,
okay, this is weird.

What's going on with you guys?

Well we were in the hospital...

I mean, Dakota, take a look...
Take a look at this.

Tell me that, that doesn't
look like a face.

- [Dakota] Oh, my God!
- [Tanner] Wait a minute. What?

- [Tanner] No.
- [Dakota] What?

Well, it looked like
somebody's standing there

and then they moved around the
door jam and nobody was there.

You know what's really creepy?

Tanner's photo came from
top corner of the ceiling.

[Steve] Guys, I think
it's the same hallway.

Second floor?

Yeah, we never even told
you that it was the second floor.

- [Steve] It is the sec... second floor.
- Yes.

- Second floor hallway. It's the same...
- No way!

- [Steve] The same hallway.
- Get outta here!

It very possibly could
be the same damn thing.

It looks like it.
That's what's freaking me out.

[Jason] While Shari and I review
the evidence from last night,

Steve and Dave are meeting
up with a historian...

- Hello.
- Hey! I'm Steve.

- Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.

[Jason] ...to learn more abo the
infamous inmates at Joliet Prison.

This will help us determine
who may be responsible

for some of the activity
we experienced last night.

So, some of the notorious
names here, we have Fred Blink.

He killed five people and was
executed in the electric chair here.

His last words were,

I wish the two people I didn't
kill were sitting on my lap,

so, they could die with me.

Wow!

- Somebody with a lot of hate in him.
- Yeah.

Um, we have Frank Grand
who was believed to kill 12 men,

- did kill the deputy warden here.
- [Steve] Yeah.

Frank, ultimately killed
himself in solitary confinement.

Oh, man.

Joseph Coakley, 1931, had been
handcuffed to his cell door in solitary.

He'd been there,
nearly four days.

He was saying he wasn't
feeling well.

And by the time the hospital
physician got here, he had already died.

That set off the 1931 riot.

[Steve] Hmm.

Wow!

Well, Steven, we have a
lot of good information here.

- Thank you.
- Hmm-mmm.

It's a pleasure.
Thank you so much.

- Thank you so much.
- You're welcome.

[Jason] For tonight's investigation,
we're going to break off into teams,

and use some of the names
associated with the prison's past

to try to provoke
further activity.

[Jason] Jay and Dakota,
heading into the West cell block.

So, in here, they see a big
guy in a blue jumpsuit.

They have shadow figures.

[Dakota] This is definitely
no joke in here.

[Dakota exhales heavily]

[Jason] Can you imagine being
locked in these things, 23 hours a day?

[Dakota] No. I could not
do that.

Now, you've been
in death row before.

[exhales heavily]
This is the spot,

where I had to sleep by myself
when I was here last.

- Oh, man.
- [Tanner] Yeah.

So, I definitely have a
relationship with this building.

And, not a very fond one.

[Steve] Hello!

Is there anyone here with us?

[Steve] Does anyone know
Fred Blink?

Do you hate the guards?

[indistinct sound]

- You heard that?
- I did.

That sounded a bit like
footsteps, for sure.

[Tanner] I mean, we're standing
right underneath the grates.

[Steve] Right.

Do you remember
who Joseph Coakley is?

He died chained to a cell door
for four days.

[loud thud]

Whoa!

Okay.

[Dave] Doors, supposedly,
are just always slamming here.

That's strength, that's power,
that's energy, you know.

Is anybody upstairs?

Is there, like, anything
on me?

No.

So, I'm never the one to talk
about getting touched,

um, but it happened twice.

- [Alex] Twice?
- Yup.

Holy crap!

[Dakota] It actually feels like
we're walking next to someone.

- [Jason] Or something's walking next to us.
- Yeah.

I don't like that.

Brought a set of keys.

[keys clinking]

[Jason] Can you tell us which
cellblock's yours?

- [Jason] It just sounded like walking.
- [Dakota] Yeah.

- [Jason] It sounds like it was from right above us.
- [Dakota] Hmm-mmm.

- [indistinct sound]
- Ooh!

- [indistinct sound]
- Ooh!

[Dakota] Oh, okay.
That was loud, dude.

[Jason] Are you making sounds?

Trying to let us know,
where you are?

So, this is also the cell block

where that lady saw the
shadow, right in front of her,

and she took off.

[Dakota] Something's down
here, man.

Did you say "Hey"?

- It was just like a, hey.
- [Dakota] Yeah.

And it was like, "Hey!"

- You heard it?
- [Dakota] Yeah.

Strange because it's like,
in front of the one locked cell.

- [Dakota] I know.
- [Jason] I mean, all the other cells are open.

[Jason] We got some keys.

Is that what you needed?

Cell is open.

- [indistinct voice]
- Oh.

- [Dakota] Yeah.
- That was just like a...

[Dakota] Hmm. Yeah.

You might have just
let something out.

Was that a smart thing
or a dumb thing?

[Steve] You know what
was awesome about that,

- is you could feel it in the building.
- Yeah.

[Steve] Would you like
to riot again?

Get some revenge on some of
these guards that mistreated you?

We definitely heard something
from this direction.

We definitely heard some
from that direction.

And before, we heard something
on these grates.

So...

pretty much surrounded.

It's been a long night.

We've all had really
good activity.

Yeah. Absolutely.

- I have, uh, an idea.
- [Alex] No. No!

This is happening.

I was wondering if we could
stay the night.

Yeah. I mean, I don't have
a problem with that.

You guys can continue
the investigation.

You guys catch something,
that's more stuff that we've got.

Yeah. I mean,
isolate ourselves.

See if our fear draws out
any more activity and...

Where you guys think
of staying?

- I was thinking I would go to the hospital.
- [Tanner] Good, yes.

Tanner, maybe, you go
to the East cell house,

- where we just heard that "hey." Yeah.
- Where we heard the "hey"?

- [Dakota] And Alex, death row.
- [Alex] No, no, no.

[laughs] Have fun!

- Good luck, guys.
- Yeah. Pretty excited for you guys.

- All right.
- Let's do it, guys.

- See ya.
- [Dakota] See you, dude.

Oh! I can't believe we're
doing this again. This is wild.

Yeah. Enjoy East cell block!

[Tanner] All right. Good luck.

- [Dakota] See you, dude. Cheers.
- [Tanner] Cheers.

[chokes and coughs]

[Alex] So...

[Alex grunts]

I am a hundred percent
alone now in North segregation.

This is where they housed
the worst of the worst.

I feel that energy
all around me right now.

[Dakota] This is what we do

We like to put ourselves
in vulnerable situations,

you know, types of things
that'll bring about the fear.

Because the paranormal feeds off
of fear and this hospital is no joke.

I'm gonna put this little mask
on because there's a lot of dust.

So, I'm just hoping
that whoever

is haunting this place
doesn't see me as a threat.

And, I make it out
without crying,

so, Jason will still like me.

[indistinct sound]

That was weird.

I just heard something,
like movement.

Hello!

Oh! I have a terrible feeling.

[indistinct sound]

What the [bleep]?

That sounded like a freaking
cabinet opening

in the room right next to me.

And look, all it is,
is a bunch of open cabinets.

You know, I have been thinking
a lot about Fred Blink.

He was a man that murdered
five people.

He was executed here.

So, Fred Blink, if you're here,
can you make a noise for me?

[sighs]

I know someone's here
with me right now.

I'm hearing, like,
faint walking, downstairs.

Is that you Fred?

- [indistinct sound]
- Holy [bleep]!

[Alex] Is that you, Fred?

- [indistinct sound]
- Holy [bleep]!

What the [bleep]? No!

Holy [bleep].

Okay, so, um,

I just heard running.

- What... Oh! It's going off.
- [REM pod beeping erratically]

It's [bleep] going off.

Oh, my God!

[REM pod continues
to beep erratically]

Ooh!

Dude, what the [bleep] is it?

[REM pod continues
to beep erratically]

What is happening?

Who's making this go off?

Oh, my God, dude.

I am freaking out right now.

Turn this off. This is...

Holy crap.

Okay, what
the [bleep] was that?

Almost like
a laugh-slash-scream.

And you could hear it,
clear as day.

- No way!
- That's awesome.

And we captured
a female voice.

Dude.

[Jason] As the team
reviews evidence,

Shari and I, will follow up on this
mysterious female voice we've captured.

We're meeting with Mike
Johnson, a former guard,

to try to find out who could
be behind this female presence.

- Hey, Mike.
- Hello.

- Hey, how are you, man? Jason.
- Hi.

- Hi, Shari.
- Hi.

- [Shari] Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you both.

I know you were
a prison guard, here.

I was here, uh, as a guard,
six years.

Did you have any dangerous
situations yourself?

The worst beating
I ever took was in '86.

I got some stitches
in my face.

You know, every day
was something different,

when you come in here
and you at least knew

you're going to get into
some arguments.

So, what can you tell me
about deaths here at Old Joliet?

Were there ever any deaths
of women on the property?

Yes, there was a warden's
wife, Maizee Odette Allen,

in 1915, who was murdered.

She was bludgeoned to death
and the bed was set on fire

They quickly accused one of the
inmate house servants, Joe Campbell.

He was known as,
"Chicken Joe Campbell."

- Chicken Joe Campbell?
- [Mike] Hmm-mmm.

Some people think
that he didn't do it,

but he was tried, convicted,
sentenced to death,

but the governor
commuted it to life.

And I believe, he passed away
here in the early 1950's.

Okay. Appreciate you coming and
taking the time to talk with us on this.

Oh. No problem.

[Jason] It's possible,
Maizee Odette Allen,

is behind the female voice
we heard multiple times.

So, tonight, we'll try to reach
her and Chicken Joe Campbell.

[Dakota] Oh, look at that.

- It's like a full moon, tonight.
- Right?

So, we're ready to go?

Absolutely.

Everything's wired up
and we're ready for tonight.

Shari, you want to get
in there?

Yeah, I'd like to check out the
hospital, maybe, with Tanner.

- Deal. Let's go.
- [Shari laughs]

[Jason] Steve and Dave, why don't
you guys check out the oldest cell?

- Cool.
- All right. Well, I'll watch the equipment.

Dakota and Alex, why don't
you guys head over to death row?

- All right.
- That's awesome.

Grab whatever equipment.

[Dave] Steve and Dave,
going to the oldest cell.

- [Dave] I didn't even know this was here.
- [Steve] Hmm-mmm.

[Dave] Oh, my God!

[Steve] Yeah.

Constructed '1853, last of
the Illinois medieval prisons.

Did you have a particular job

while building this jail?

[Steve] Should we get
one of the guards?

Do you not want a guard here?

[metal clinking]

- Did you hear something metallic?
- [Dave] Yes.

- [Steve] I did too.
- Like... like... like, keys.

- [Steve] Exactly.
- [Dave] Yup.

It sounded like it was coming
from that way.

- That key jingle is quite interesting.
- [Dave] Yeah.

And they report that.
I never thought for a second,

- I would hear the sound of keys, genuinely.
- Hmm-mmm.

Jeez, dude.

If there's anybody here,

can you knock on one
of these doors?

Can you do something?

Can you do something
to affect us?

[Shari] Is there
a Joe Campbell, here?

Or does anybody know
a Joe Campbell?

Is there
a Maizee Odette, here?

[indistinct sound]

- Did you hear that?
- [Tanner] Yeah.

- [Tanner] You heard that, right?
- [Shari] Yeah.

- [Tanner] That was down this way.
- [Shari] That was. Yeah.

Maizee Odette Allen,
was that you?

[REM pod beeps]

[Tanner] Oh!

Man!

Oh, God, these doors
are so heavy.

- [REM pod beeps]
- Whoa!

[Tanner] What was that?

Okay.

[Shari] It stopped going
off when you got closer to it.

- [Tanner] Okay.
- [Shari] Do you want us to leave?

- [REM pod beeps]
- What is happening?

[Shari] Do you want us
to leave?

- [REM pod beeps]
- What is happening?

[footsteps approaching]

[Shari] I hear walking.

Chicken Joe Campbell,
is that you walking out there?

[footsteps approaching]

[Shari] Whoever is out there, can
you also come in here and talk to us?

That's just weird.

Right? Like, I mean,
that can't be a coincidence.

Are we talking to the shadow figure
that Jason and I caught on camera?

There is a very tall man
that wears a blue suit

that people see all over
the place.

Chicken Joe,

is that you or do you know
that person?

It's gotten very quiet
in here.

Do you want us to leave?

[Jason] Hey guys, we got a lot of
evidence to go through, so, let's wrap.

All right. We need to go.

We thank you for communicating
with us.

We appreciate it.

- All right.
- You guys good?

- Yeah.
- Yeah, this was a blast.

[Jason] Well, thanks for
coming and hanging out guys.

Appreciate it. Thank you.

- We got to come again.
- Oh, yeah.

- You guys are always welcome out here, you know that.
- Awesome.

- [Dave] Seriously, thank you.
- [all cheering]

[indistinct conversation]

[Jason] It's been
an amazing investigation.

Every single team member from TAPS,
right down to Destination Fear guys,

have had experiences here.

Really looking forward
to coming back

and talking with Greg
and showing him what we foun

All right. Greg, thanks for
coming sitting down with us.

The history was one of the
most fascinating parts about this.

We used all of that history
in our investigation

to try to get some experiences
and some answers.

We definitely want to play
some sounds,

get your take on it and also
show you a couple videos.

One of the claims here is,
hearing keys jingling.

Well, Dave and Steve were investigating
and they were in the old cell area.

You can hear, it happens
a couple times, so...

Wow!

- [Jason] That's the guard that's still on watch.
- Yeah.

So, the Destination Fear Gus
were investigating at one point,

and there was a female voice
that came.

I mean take a listen to it,

and tell me if it's something
that is similar

- to the sounds that you guys have heard here.
- Yeah.

[Tanner] What was that? I heard
a voice in my... with my own ears.

Wow!

[Jason] We thought it was strange
that we captured a female voice.

Odette Allen.

You know, she was the one
who was strangled

- and then the bed was set on fire.
- [Greg] Yeah.

And she was known to have
sang to the inmates.

- [Jason] Really?
- So, that would corroborate...

- That's awesome, dude.
- ...historic accounts and things we've heard, as well.

[Steve] She was tragically murdered,
so, it makes sense that she's still here.

When Dakota and I,
were in the East cell block,

and we're up
on the second floor,

- we both distinctly heard a "hey."
- Wow!

You say, hey?

- It's just like a hey.
- [Dakota] Yeah.

[Steve] Alex was asking
for Fred Blink.

And he heard running and
you can hear it in the audio,

it literally runs right
up to him.

[Alex] Touch this red light
in the middle of the floor.

Holy [bleep]!

Holy [bleep]!

Sounded like a pair
of heavy-duty boots, maybe.

It sure did.

So, one of the last places we want
to show you is rather interesting.

So, we're using the thermal
imaging camera.

So, while we're in there, we're
again in the hospital, Steve and me.

And caught something
on the thermal.

Wow!

- [Jason] Exactly. To me, that almost looks like a face.
- [Greg] Hmm-mmm.

It's a wild piece... piece of
evidence that... that amazes us.

Wow!

The place definitely seems to
have activity. There's no question.

- But, I don't really foresee any concerns of getting hurt.
- Great.

You know, whatever is here seems to
be more remorseful and maybe, even sad.

- Oh, wow!
- [Steve] Yeah.

We're able to document
some great stuff.

- [Jason] If you need anything just give us a shout...
- Thank you.

...and we'll be back.

- Thank you gentlemen, for you help.
- Oh, thank you. Thank you.

Thank you. This was awesome.

[Greg] Jay and Steve
corroborated the stories

we have from staff,
from volunteers from guests,

that just told me that we're
doing the right thing here,

by preserving the site and
making sure these stories get told.

If I were to say a place
was haunted...

- [Steve laughs] ...it could be Joliet Prison.
- Absolutely.

But some of the stuff
happening there,

if you're not used to it,
is very scary.

Dakota, Alex, Tanner,

they're really fun to hang
out with, to investigate with.

Definitely another great
case, brother.

You know, on to the next man.

- [Steven] Here we come.
- [Jason] Let's do it.
