The Graveyard

Few places in the world
have seen so much death

as a result of nature's fury,

but the dangers
on this Northwestern coastline

don't come from
its rushing tides alone.

Sometimes the threats
are man-made,

and so we come to Fort Stevens,

a military installation
not farm from Astoria, Oregon.

Thousands of ships
found their final resting place

in this stretch of the Pacific,

but only one ran so far aground

that you can now stand
within its very guts.

Graveyard of the Pacific?

That's a tombstone.

Damn.

That is the wreckage
of the Peter Iredale,

which wrecked in 1906.

This is just one
