Ghost Adventures (2008–…): Season 14, Episode 5 - Silent Movie Theatre - full transcript
Zak and the crew arrive in sunny Los Angeles to investigate the infamous Silent Movie Theatre. Zak delves deep into a famous murder, learns of the strange death of a beloved savior of silent films and even contacts a deceased movie star.
This place is like a portal.
It's like the witch's house
in a movie.
Don't go there!
The murder happened
right there,
shot point-blank,
in the face.
What was that?
Something just moved back there.
I just saw a face
of a person, right here!
-There's something on my neck.
-There it is again.
-What was that?
-Oh, my God. Who are you?
ZAK: The show is about
to begin.
Shh.
**
ZAK: There are things
in this world
that we will never
fully understand.
Understand.
We want answers.
Answers.
We have worked years
to build our credibility,
our reputation,
working alongside
the most renowned professionals
in the field,
capturing groundbreaking proof
of the paranormal.
-It's working!
-Whoa! What was that?
I can't give you
an explanation.
ZAK: This is our evidence,
our "Ghost Adventures."
**
ZAK: Guys,
we're in L.A. again.
You know, this is one of my
favorite places to investigate.
AARON: Yeah.
It's one of our favorite places
to investigate.
Yeah.
'Cause as soon
as you get here,
unlike any other city
in the country,
there's, like,
psychic fields here.
There's psychic energy here.
You have so many different
creative minds, you know?
People in film, TV,
art, music,
and you get all of that
imagination together
in one condensed area.
But what happens when
you take some darkness
and spill it into
this imagination pool?
So where are we headed?
We are gonna investigate
the Silent Movie Theatre
on Fairfax.
Ooh!
Built in 1942,
this celebrated vestige
of silent films
bears a dark curse that killed
its first two owners.
The most recent and violent
was that of Lawrence Austin,
who was brutally murdered
in this very lobby.
Austin would take tickets
right there,
and the murder happened
right there.
Jeez.
So this guy
was shot point-blank,
in the face, you know...
-Really?
...with a .357, I mean,
that's gonna do some damage.
What was the intent?
Why did he do this?
-Well...
-Who shot him?
Well this, kind of --
Well, see what happened is
they were showin' a movie,
and about 20 minutes
after the movie started,
this kid was sitting --
I think it was
about the third row back.
His name was
Christian Rodriguez.
And he came out, walked over
to the candy counter,
and he talked to Mary Giles,
who was working there.
She was 19.
And he says,
"I'd like to buy tickets
for an advance screening."
He did this while the movie
was still playing.
Right.
So the candy counter girl says,
"Uh, you gotta talk
to the owner."
So he walks over
to Mr. Austin
and he holds up
his .357 and he says,
"Give me your money."
And without hesitating,
pow, hits him in the face.
Then he turns around
and hits Mary Giles
twice in the chest,
and then he ran
through the theatre
and then he ran out
the back door
and through the alley
and -- and...
Just to rob 'em
for a few bucks?
Well, that's what everyone
thought originally.
So there's more to it.
Oh, God, yeah.
No, it's a great story.
Lawrence Austin
had a boyfriend who --
who was actually -- worked in
the projection room right here.
He was working that night.
Van Sickle was his name --
James Van Sickle --
and it turns out
that Van Sickle
offered the kid $25,000
to kill Austin...
What?!
...and an additional $5,000
to kill Mary Giles.
Do you believe, Scott,
that his ghost is here
at his theatre?
I absolutely believe
that he is still here.
You know, he's a hero
to a lot of people.
Austin saved films
that wouldn't exist anymore.
He adored Hollywood.
But now he's kinda etched
in his own movie
with all the ingredients
of a classic suspense movie.
ZAK: I now meet
the Silent Movie Theatre's
new business director, Drew,
in a very narrow
film storage room.
Things become extremely awkward
as we try and prepare
for the interview.
**
This is weird.
Sure you wanna do this in here?
'Cause I'm getting
little bit, like, panicky.
-It's up to you guys.
-Panic attack.
I'm very used to the strange
energy in this hallway.
Okay.
And so what you're experiencing
is very normal.
Okay.
This has been used
for film prints
since as far back as the '40s,
when this place was built.
We still hold hundreds
of old film cans.
If you really want to know
the haunted history
of this place,
it probably lives within
those film cans.
-That's a good analogy...
-Exactly.
...that all the emotions
from those actors,
all the laughter
from the audience...
-Yeah, exactly.
-...who watched that,
everything's preserved in...
-Into cans.
...these little files.
Yeah, in these cans.
So in these --
And there's even hundreds
of 'em down right there.
Okay, hang on.
[ Metal rattles, clatters ]
-Okay.
-Whoa!
-Sorry.
Okay, are you --
are you good right there?
-I'm good, go for it.
-Okay.
-Yeah.
-"Ghostbusters"!
Isn't there something
on film
that can make you, like,
cough and stuff?
All right, I'm going.
John Hampton,
the man who built this theatre,
dedicated his life
to the restoration
and preservation
of silent films.
But in a strange twist of fate,
his exposure to the extremely
poisonous chemicals
used in his pioneering pursuits
to save the old movies
would be the very thing
that killed him
in the upstairs apartment.
Okay. [ Exhales sharply ]
This is a little bit better
right here,
so can I talk to you
right here for a second?
Of course, of course.
Oh, I feel like I know
you really well now.
-Gets intimate really quickly.
-[ Chuckles ] Yeah.
[ Smooth jazz playing ]
[ Record needle scratches ]
Um, so let me ask you
about the hauntings here.
I've lived here my whole life.
I remember seeing basically
the dark cloud
hanging over this place,
after the murder,
before this organization
took it over in 2007.
-When was that gap?
-So it happened in '97,
Cinefamily took
this place over in 2007.
But for that 10 year period,
I remember, as a kid,
it was just this...
It's like the witch's house
in a movie.
It's like, "Don't go there.
That place is dark and creepy."
The haunted energy
is very strong.
It's over 100 years old,
and I think it's still winning.
Does the energy here make you
different when you walk in here,
than when you leave that door
and you're outside?
Yes. It's a portal.
It's almost like
the building itself
is one of those film cans
because it's seen
so many generations
of the movie culture
here in town...
Yeah.
...I think it has,
bottled into it,
a lot of the dark,
melancholy energies
of a lot of writers
and actors and directors...
Mm-hmm.
...and people who have --
It's weird you say that
because I said that
on the way here, in the car.
Same exact thing
that you just said.
That's what this place is.
ZAK: Right now, we're
in between our interviews,
and this is Mike.
Mike is our audio guy.
We were having a meeting,
and you're --
you guys were lookin' this way.
-Right.
So what I saw was over here,
and it was --
it was pretty dark,
but you could kind of see, like,
this silhouette here.
Yeah.
What I saw
was basically this...
Somebody just walked
right into here, like that.
-Into there?
-Yeah.
There's nothing back there.
There's nowhere to go.
How tall was it?
Did you see...
-Uh, probably like as tall --
-Nobody else saw this.
-This was just you.
-Yeah.
So get me some gear.
Go get gear right now.
This happens sometimes
during our interviews.
When Mike sees something,
you know he sees something.
He's been working for us
for a long time.
He's never seen a ghost.
I've only heard things.
I've never seen anything.
-Okay, and you saw this?
-Yeah.
The other staff members said
that this place is like
a portal.
We can see and find out
if these doorways
that these spirits
come in and out
could be in this closet.
I immediately use
the SB7 Spirit Box
to see if I can communicate
with whoever
our audio guy Mike just saw,
and what we hear next
is incredibly awesome.
[ Oscillating static ]
Who is here?
Who just walked through here?
Did we just see you?
Yes.
That was a "yes."
This is amazing.
We just had a spirit
answer us intelligently
and tell us
that our audio guy Mike
did, in fact, just see him.
With this spirit
in our presence,
we want to try and see it.
What happens next is
both exciting
and absolutely incredible.
What is that?
BILLY: I don't know.
There's no...
There's nothing
on that chair.
Shoot that chair, Aaron,
with your camera.
There's nothing there.
Why is there a heat signature
on the chair?
-I have no idea.
-Nobody was even sitting there.
-BILLY: Wow.
-ZAK: Look at that.
-That's crazy.
-What the hell is that?
AARON: That's a person's
back and legs.
BILLY: Exactly.
Looks like there's
a head there, too.
It looks like somebody
is sitting there
with their two legs
touching right here,
and, like, their back
hitting there,
and there's nothing else
in the entire thing.
There was nobody sitting now.
Now look,
all the other seats...
Nobody's been sitting here
at all.
AARON:
'Cause they're watching us.
We've been in here
the last hour.
Hey, that's 'cause
they're watching us.
-Oh, my God, dude.
-That's what it said, right?
It could be.
It said it could see you
or see us or something.
Yeah, it said that.
-Look, it's...
-Was somebody...
No! There's no one in here
but us.
ZAK: We are all 100% certain
that none of us
sat down in that seat
while we were in the theatre.
So, let me piece this together.
While we're in here filming,
Lawrence Austin is
sitting in this couch.
Lawrence Austin gets up
from the couch, walks over here.
Our audio guy Mike
sees him walk into here,
disappear into here.
Right where he disappeared,
we document a 5.0 EMF spike...
-AARON: Yeah.
-Count all the way down
to a .1 in the exact same spot,
debunking that it was any type
of static electricity.
Then after that,
we do Spirit Box
and we hear a "yes."
Did we just see you?
That was one hell
of a chain of events.
None of us have sat down
since we have entered
this theatre,
and no one else
is in here with us.
Later, we will uncover
incredible information
by a special guest of ours
to further prove
that this thermal capture
is from the same spirit
that just spoke to us.
-They're pulling up right now.
-Ready to have your mind blown?
There's a lot of
very cool things going on.
-Oh!
-[ Laughs ]
**
ZAK: Still in shock
from the intelligent response
captured at
the Silent Movie Theatre...
Did we just see you?
...I want to bring in
world-renowned psychics
Michael and Marti Parry,
who have the amazing ability
to not only communicate
with spirits
but also make sketches of who
they're communicating with.
On the count of three,
I want you take off
your blindfolds.
One, two, three.
Oh, it's bright. [ Chuckles ]
Okay, let your eyes adjust
for a minute.
Uh, there are a lot
of theatres in L.A.,
but we're in
a particular one.
-Okay.
-Okay?
And, um, I just
would like you guys...
I-I don't want
to say anything else.
-Right. Yeah.
-Okay.
We've covered up
a lot of stuff.
Just don't want that
to interfere anything.
MARTI: Good.
-Let's walk around a little bit.
-ZAK: Okay.
Michael will try to communicate
with any spirits that are here,
while Marti will use
that same energy to give us
an artistic impression
of these spirits.
Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.
-[ Clears throat ]
-ZAK: Out of the entire theatre,
Michael sits
in the same exact spot
where yesterday, we mapped in
the unknown thermal anomaly.
Is this just coincidence?
Definitely not.
ZAK: He used to sit here?
I asked him why
I'm sitting here.
He said,
"I used to sit here."
This is, like, his spot.
-ZAK: That's his spot.
-MICHAEL: His -- his spot.
ZAK: I want
to literally scream right now,
but I'm holding it all in.
Michael not only sits
in the same exact spot
as the unknown figure,
but tells us that this is
the spirit's
favorite spot to sit.
There's a woman here, too.
A lady.
-A young or old lady?
-30-ish.
[ Scratching ]
-AARON: What was that?
-ZAK: What was that?
What was that?
-Did you hear that?
-I heard something behind me.
It just came from back there.
Yeah, it was like
a scraping noise.
Yeah.
-Yeah.
-And I didn't hear it too well
'cause I had my music on,
but I did hear it.
ZAK: But you could hear
with your -- It was that loud.
Mm-hmm.
-What was that?
-What was that?
I can see someone standing,
kind of over where
that doorway is.
You saw someone standing here?
-It was a man and he...
-Did he just appear here?
He, sort of, came,
I suppose, through that doorway.
-MICHAEL: Can you feel him?
-ZAK: Yes, I can.
'Cause he said he's in you.
I just felt him,
and this is the first time
that I have felt anything
since we arrived here.
-Who is he?
-Hold on, hold on.
Are you getting any --
I'm gonna --
I'm gonna -- Hold on.
I'm gonna do
something here with him.
I'm gonna ask, like,
write some stuff down
and I'm gonna see
how you react.
-Okay.
-If you were to do anything,
what would you feel
like doing?
Kind of want to run.
[ Laughs ]
You wanna what? Run?
Run. I don't know why.
I just want to run.
I feel like I've got to run
over there and do something.
AARON: Right. Maybe that's --
He just wants to run.
Like, something needs to be done
in there. I don't know.
Go then. Do it, do it.
-It's weird.
-See what happens.
ZAK: I don't know why,
but as Michael says this spirit
has entered into me,
I can't stop moving my legs
and I feel as though
I just want to run
and run and run.
Before I do this,
Michael writes down
a couple words
that he receives from the spirit
to prove to me
that he is making contact.
You ready to
have your mind blown?
-What?
-I told you I would write down
a couple of things
that he might get you to do
so that you would know
that you were feeling him.
-Mm-hmm.
-And I wrote down "legs."
-And you said...
-Are you serious?
And you said,
"I feel like running."
I feel like running.
[ Laughing ]
What?
What the hell?
Oh, my God, dude.
That's, like, crazy.
AARON: And I convinced you
to run...
-No, just hold on.
-...and you did it!
This is just, like...
There's a lot of just, like,
very cool things going on.
That's crazy.
'Cause he wanted to do
something to you
so you would know
he was in you, you see.
And I thought he said,
"Rub legs."
But then I realized he said,
"Run legs, run the legs."
-Shoot.
-That's awesome.
ZAK: Having all these events
tied together --
our audio guy seeing a man
in the same spot Michael did,
capturing a thermal anomaly
of a figure
in the same exact spot
Michael sat down,
then Michael tells us
this is the favorite spot
where this man's spirit
always sits...
-This is, like, his spot.
-That's his spot.
His -- his spot.
ZAK: Then as Michael
communicates with this spirit,
he receives a psychic message
that he writes down,
proving to us without a doubt
that there is the soul
of a deceased body here
at the Silent Movie Theatre,
and it can
intelligently communicate
with us through voice...
Did we just see you?
...as well as telepathically
with a psychic medium.
The time has arrived
to reveal to Michael and Marti
where exactly they are.
It's also time to merge
the amazing
spiritual information
Michael has gathered
with the drawings
that Marti has been channeling.
So, Michael and Marti, um,
you two are at
the Silent Movie Theatre
on Fairfax Avenue.
When you guys walked in,
immediately, Michael,
you sat in the same exact spot
in this entire theatre
where we did
legitimately capture
an unexplained anomaly
on thermal,
in that chair,
that we could not debunk.
It was really cool.
Not only that, our audio guy,
who's a skeptic, Mike,
he saw a dark figure
standing at the doorway...
What I saw
was basically this...
Somebody just walked
right into here, like that.
-Into there?
-Yeah.
...that Michael, you saw.
And, uh, not only that,
that experience that I felt,
standing there, feeling
something around me,
the energy before you even
said it, was incredible.
Then you put me to the test.
So thank you
for letting me know
that I do have
some type of sensibility...
[ Laughs ] Yeah.
...um, that helps me.
Can we look...
-Yeah.
-...at the pictures you drew?
We now focus our attention
to finding out
who exactly the man's spirit is
that has been
sitting in this seat
and talking with us.
Does this look familiar?
MICHAEL: When I saw that,
I thought,
"Oh, that's the woman
that sat next to me."
Okay.
That was, like, 30-ish.
There's a woman here too.
A lady.
-A young or old lady?
-30-ish.
I keep getting the name
Douglas, um, Fairbanks.
That's totally him.
I just got a chill.
AARON: All right, let me get
a shot. Hold on, hold on.
ZAK: It's truly amazing
that they would
both feel the essence
of the great
Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
After numerous celebrations
of his work within these walls,
his films are burned
onto this screen,
and, evidently, his soul
fills this theatre.
How?
-Oh, my God, dude.
-AARON: Wait, wait, wait!
-That's incredible.
-Whoa!
ZAK: Earlier, Michael sensed
a presence in the theatre
that he felt suffered
from a heart condition.
Maybe just died
of a heart attack
or had heart problems.
That's definitely
Douglas Fairbanks.
Yeah.
ZAK: With any theatre,
many come and many go.
The next question is,
"When the lights go down,
what spirits will show up next
during our lockdown?"
One that's definitely
not silent.
-What's wrong?
-There's something on my neck.
What was that?
Something just moved back there.
Oh, my God!
**
Okay, right now,
we're getting ready to, uh,
start our investigation
of the Silent Movie Theatre
here in Los Angeles.
So I want to go right away
'cause we just released
Michael and Marti Parry
from the investigation.
We're finally all lights out,
and I want to run
right back there
and pick back up
where we left off with them
and see if we can
actually get more evidence
of who they were
just communicating with.
That was
absolutely unbelievable.
Let's go.
Okay, we are just getting ready.
We're in the spot where
Lawrence Austin was murdered.
We're gonna start off
by using SLS.
And I want to see right away
if we can see
what Michael and Marti
was communicating with.
-So...
-BILLY: Hold on, dude.
-I just want to...
-What's wrong?
Oh, there's something...
something on my neck.
Top of
my head and neck area.
Oh, my God!
-Aaron, look it!
-What?
There's a little person
on his shoulder.
-Shut up.
-Oh, my God. There is.
-Oh, my God.
-Dude.
Dude, it's touching
your neck.
I swear to God, dude.
It's touching your neck.
There is a little figure
and it has its arm on your neck.
It's really, really cold.
It's really cold.
You just said that.
Right here,
on the side of my neck.
You just said that.
He said that before
this was mapped.
Yep.
-Hold on, dude.
-I just want to...
-What's wrong?
Oh, there's something...
something on my neck.
AARON: You felt it,
and we caught it.
Top of
my head and neck area.
Oh, my God!
-It's happening.
-It happened.
It just went away.
-That was weird.
-Oh, my God.
It's super, super cold, too.
-Come here.
-Come here and feel this.
Come here and feel this.
Right here, right here!
Feel it.
That's freezing.
ZAK:
Something absolutely incredible
is happening right now
at the Silent Movie Theatre.
Just as Billy begins feeling
something touching his neck,
I turn the SLS camera
and capture
a small skeletal figure
on his arm
that can actually be seen
touching his neck.
There is no way to argue
that we are not capturing
irrefutable proof of a spirit
making physical contact
with a living person.
-It was touching your neck.
-I could feel it.
-And there was nothing behind.
-No.
It was a free floating figure
touching your neck.
That is awesome.
When you have physical
sensation of that...
-It just feels like...
-And we can see that...
He was probably welcoming me.
-I understand, but why...
-You know what I'm saying?
Why is it a little figure,
perched on his arm?
I don't know.
We don't know that.
It's like a little monkey.
It always shows up like that.
You ever notice that?
I think that it doesn't matter
the size.
I think the whole time
we're thinking spirit
is going to be as big as us
and all that.
-Right, right, right.
-Sometimes they are.
But I think that this translated
into a smaller figure.
-Right.
-Okay?
A free-floating thing
that's...
-Might be this tall.
-Shh, shh.
What was that?
Something just moved back there.
-What --
-[ Whispers ] Dude.
[ Thump ]
Oh, shh.
Be quiet.
That was one of
the most coolest,
incredible things
I've ever seen on SLS.
But there are banging noises
coming from back there.
The exact spot where
we just captured an SLS figure
touching Billy's neck
is the same area
where Lawrence Austin,
the theatre's previous owner,
was shot and killed.
Lawrence?
Was that you touching Billy?
AARON: Oh, I smell rotten egg.
Can you show yourself again
in the place where you died?
There's a bad smell.
Yeah, there's
a rotten egg smell.
What did Marti
write on her paper?
-Bad smell!
-Smells.
Oh, my --
Oh, I just got the goosebumps.
AARON: Can you guide us
while we walk inside?
Can you tell us
where our seats are?
Could really use some help.
-That was incredible.
-That was awesome, dude.
Hey, I haven't seen it,
but I felt it.
AARON: Yeah.
ZAK: Hey, Douglas.
Michael and Marti just made
contact with Douglas Fairbanks,
a famous silent movie actor.
Marti even drew his face,
and it was a perfect match.
Douglas?
Can you sit down in your seat?
Will you show us where you sit?
So right now, I'm just
scanning the seats,
trying to see if the spirits
that Michael and Marti
were just communicating with,
if one of them
that entered my body,
is sitting
in one of these chairs.
Who just showed yourself
with Billy, out in the lobby?
Can you now come in here
and take a seat
in one of these chairs?
I decide to switch
to the Spirit Box
to try to communicate
with Lawrence, Douglas,
or anyone else
who's still at the theatre.
Can you start off
by telling us your name?
[ Oscillating static ]
But for over 15 minutes,
we don't receive a single voice
until I see something
with my own eyes,
which has only happened
a handful of times
in my entire life.
-There's nothing.
-Nothin'.
Nothing.
Ohh.
AARON AND BILLY:
What? What? What?
-Oh, my God!
-AARON: What?
Aaron, I just saw a face
of a person right here.
No way.
God, I haven't seen that
in a long time.
Right in front of you
or down the hall?
Yes. It was a glowing face.
No, it was right here.
It was right here.
It was a face
and it was glowing.
I saw the face right here.
Who are you?
Am I in your spot and you don't
want me in your spot?
-What?
-That was a straight-up name.
ZAK: Inside the ominous
Silent Movie Theatre
in Los Angeles, California,
an entity
just revealed itself to me.
Aaron, I just saw a face
of a person right here!
Who are you? Feel the cold?
-My hands are cold.
-Ice cold, right here.
Right here.
Right where I saw it.
Tell me your name.
Peter.
-What?!
-That was a straight-up name.
That was it. That's a person.
That was a name.
That was a name.
That's the first name
that we've got...
AARON: Yes.
...since we've done
this whole session in here.
No voices comin' through.
We get the voice right
when I saw the face,
where I feel the cold.
I'm going to constantly link
these events together
so you can see how
the connection of events
leads to evidence...
-Right.
...that that's a spirit.
You can hear,
there's no voices
comin' through this.
-AARON AND BILLY: None.
-We're in Los Angeles.
This is how
our Spirit Boxes work.
They only play spirit voices
when they have them.
There is nothing
coming through.
That was incredible, man.
Tell me your name.
-What?!
-That was a straight-up name.
Why are you here
at the theatre?
What do you want to watch?
I think the spirit is here.
He spoke once.
He's a little shock
right now...
Right.
...seein' who we are
and what this is.
We now decide to split up.
Billy will be isolated
in the projection booth,
where Lawrence Austin's
ex-lover,
who also set up
Lawrence's murder,
once worked
as the projectionist.
Aaron will investigate
the old film storage hallway,
and I'll be taking
full spectrum photos
here in the theatre.
While in the projection booth,
Billy will be operating
the Paranormal Puck 2 device,
which uses several
environmental factors
to choose words from a database
that can be manipulated
by the manifestation
of spirits.
Would you like to speak to me?
We can use this device
to communicate.
Just tell me the words
to deliver your message.
Send me some words on here.
AARON: I'm just walking around
in here.
I'm just trying
to feel the energy.
Am I in your spot, and you
don't want me in your spot?
-Is the owner here?
-Larry.
Larry?
I just asked Paranormal Puck,
"Is the owner here?"
And it said, "Larry."
ZAK: At this moment,
Billy is unaware
that Larry is a common nickname
for Lawrence.
And as we now believe
that Lawrence is here
communicating with him,
before he can even type
his next question,
he receives
a heartwarming message.
Memories.
Memories.
Lawrence, is that you?
Michael Parry said
that you were reminiscing
and thinking about
the good times.
-Memory Lane.
-Is this you, Lawrence?
It kind of feels like you are.
ZAK: Just as Billy begins
reading the details
of Lawrence Austin's murder,
something moves inside
of the booth unexplainably.
"The 21-year-old trigger man
in the murder for hire for La--
"for Lawrence Austin will spend
the rest of his days in prison.
"In sentencing
Christian Rodriguez
to life without possibility
of parole..."
"...the judge..."
[ Click ]
What the hell was that?
"The judge..."
"The judge..."
Something just moved
inside this booth
as I'm reading this about
the murder.
I got full body chills
right now.
Lawrence, is that you because
I'm reading about your murder?
Okay, right now, what we're
doing is we're in the theatre.
We've got everything
set up on stage.
We've got
a full spectrum camera.
We've got a night vision camera.
We've got
a thermal imaging camera.
We also have the structured
light sensor camera.
Jay, what do you have
going up on stage?
Right here, it's an old
1970s film camera.
It shoots stills.
We had such great results
back at Alcatraz,
and being an old film theatre,
I thought it'd be a good idea
to use an actual film camera.
So wait, you're gonna do
extended exposures.
-Yep.
-Just like we did in Alcatraz,
when we did get an anomaly.
-Exactly.
So we've got
one, two, three, four,
five different
visual types of cameras
that we are gonna use right now
while we sit
out in the audience.
And I'm going to tell them
that we have a film
that's getting ready to begin.
We also have a bucket
of popcorn right over here,
next to the seat where we saw
on thermal before, the figure --
the unexplained anomaly,
actually,
that was sitting there,
that we believe was a figure,
the same seat where
psychic Michael Parry sat
and said that that's
the spirit's favorite seat.
Right over there is
where we saw the shadow figure.
Actually, our audio guy
and Michael Parry
also saw that figure,
the same figure
that passed through me
and channeled through me.
That was awesome.
So we got all these cameras
going. Let's sit down.
Jay, walk around to
the different cameras, do that.
See if you can capture anything.
Just as I'm heading to my seat,
a very large orb of light
seems to follow me
and as I turn into my row,
it abruptly turns and shoots off
in the opposite direction.
ZAK: Douglas?
Can you please sit down now?
BILLY: Lawrence Austin?
Lawrence, I know you're here.
ZAK: Guys, put your arms
out like this.
From side to side,
across the seats.
Don't touch the seats.
Can you touch our hands?
Sit down with us, please!
The show is about to begin!
The seat's down here,
and I know all these seats
were up.
Is there something around me?
There was just
a figure right here.
ZAK: We wait patiently
for an audience of entities
to join us in this iconic
Southern California theatre.
Sit down with us, please!
The show is about to begin!
Now put your arms up.
Do you see us sitting
in the audience?
Can you join us?
All right, at ease.
BILLY: Zak, I just saw
something dark in front of me
in this row in front of me.
-What's that?
I just saw something dark
from the -- the runway here,
in the row in front of me,
behind you.
All right, you ready to do
the experiment?
-Yeah.
-We'll do some stills.
Yeah. We would like everybody
in this theatre to join us
and sit in these seats now
for a photo.
-Ready, Jay?
-Yep.
Okay, go ahead.
ZAK: After taking several
extended exposure photos
using this old camera...
-Got a whole roll.
...we capture no evidence
of spirits around us.
Would the other spirits
that are here...
-Holy!
-What was that?
AARON:
Someone sat next to you?
My arm just started vibrating.
Yeah, this arm.
Yeah. There was some kind
of crazy flash on the SLS.
It wasn't a stick figure
but it was a flash.
What color was it, Jay?
-AARON: What is that?
-Do you know what it felt like?
It felt like a wasp or a bee
or something got stuck
in my jacket.
At the exact moment that I feel
my right arm start vibrating
as if something is touching it,
Jay captures
a strange light anomaly
right above my right arm.
This isn't just coincidence.
BILLY: I mean, earlier, it's
weird. It was inside of you.
So who knows?
Someone might be trying
to enter your body right now.
AARON: Are you the man
who affected Zak in the corner?
[ Squeak ]
-What was that?
-Did you hear that?
-Yeah.
-That was a seat going down.
-That was a seat going down.
-There it is again.
-Put your hands up.
Everybody, put your hands up.
Is that seat bouncing?
There it is.
There it is again.
What the hell?
It sounds like a seat.
-Is your hands up?
-Yeah.
Everybody put your feet up.
Quiet.
There it is again.
What?
That's a seat!
-Yeah?
-It sounds like a seat!
Quiet!
Good. We hear you.
That's a seat going down.
Is there any seats
going down, Jay?
-Is all your feets up?
-Yeah! My feets are up.
All right, we're just
doing this --
Ask --
Ladies and gentlemen, just so
you can see that none of us
are moving any seats.
There is a loud squeaking seat
going up and down.
Jay immediately uses
the SLS camera
to see if he can map in a spirit
who may be moving the seat down.
Just scan that area.
JAY: Oh.
I just got the chills, dude.
It's getting colder.
Aaron, I think you're right.
I think there are spirits
taking seats around us
right now...
There's spirits
taking seats down.
And that's what
that squeaking sound was.
AARON: I'm all shaky.
Are you guys just jelly?
-It's getting more and more...
-I am, like...
-Can you see anything?
-Nothing.
-It feels like...
-It's not even mapping you guys.
Well, hold on.
This seat's down here.
And I know all these seats
were up, weren't they?
-It's ice cold.
-Look, all these seats are up.
Yeah, they're all
supposed to be up.
There's a seat right here
at the end
where that sound was,
that's down.
-What? No.
-No, they should be up.
-They're all supposed to be up.
-They were up.
Zak, at the end of your row,
right here, there's a seat...
That's where I saw
the guy standing!
-The seat's down.
-Oh, my God. It is down.
ZAK: Could this seat
have mysteriously
moved down by itself
when we were hearing
the squeaking sounds?
When we rewind this x-camera
to the beginning
of our investigation,
you can see that this seat
has always been down
and did not lower by itself.
But then I discover
something else
that makes this exact
same squeaking sound.
All right, everybody
check for that sound.
-Hold on.
-Wait.
-Yeah, that sounded like it.
-This is it.
-Yeah, that's it.
-Yeah.
I'm sure a lot of 'em squeak,
but this is the -- this is
the damn squeaking sound.
-Can you do that again?
-Listen.
[ Squeaks ]
AARON: All right, I'm really
cold. I'm ice cold right now.
-I am freezing cold. Like...
-It got really, really cold...
-Yeah.
-...for no reason.
-Oh, oh. It is cold.
-Mm-hmm.
-Whoa!
-Are you as cold as I am?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa, whoa.
What? What do you got?
Is there something
around me?
-It's ice cold right now.
-Hold up.
I'm almost to the point
where I'm...
There it is again.
There it is again,
right about my hand.
There was just
a figure right here.
Is it true that
you're still here?
This is where
Lawrence Austin was murdered.
Did it say, "Help me"?
ZAK: In Los Angeles,
we see a figure inside
the historic
Silent Movie Theatre.
There was just
a figure right here.
Just as Aaron feels
an icy cold wave of air
directly in front of him,
I map in a skeletal figure.
Could this be the spirit
that's been making
the squeaking sounds
with one of the other
folding chairs or tables?
If you watch very closely,
you can see the figure's arm
actually moves in a way
that looks like it is trying
to push the seat
back into the upright position.
Right now, we're in the lobby
of the Silent Movie Theatre,
and right over here,
this is where
Lawrence Austin was murdered,
right here in the lobby.
So I know we've done
the Spirit Box
and we haven't gotten
a whole lot with it,
so I want to give it
one more try right here,
at the area that he died.
Lawrence?
Who's here?
[ Speaks indistinctly ]
-AARON: Holy crap.
-What was that?
BILLY: I don't know.
Who's here?
-Holy crap.
-What was that?
-It was like, bam, bam, bam.
-Three syllables.
-Yeah.
-Cancer.
ZAK: In 1942, John Hampton
first opened
the Silent Movie Theatre.
And after using toxic chemicals
in the upstairs apartment
to preserve thousands of films,
he would later contract cancer
and die in 1990.
It was like, bam, bam, bam.
Three syllables.
Yeah.
Yeah.
ZAK: Are we now speaking
with John Hampton?
Billy immediately runs upstairs
to John's old apartment
to see if he can
get further validation
on a different
communication device.
Sometimes, when we start talking
about spirits' past lives,
they get intrigued
and they get involved
and they give us signs.
Sometimes, it's through
some of our devices.
Sometimes it's EVPs.
Sometimes
they even show themselves.
John Hampton,
this is, um...
where you lived.
It would seem to me that you
would probably still be here.
Something that you loved
so much, this theatre,
why would you leave?
Is it true that
you're still here?
Do you like it when people
come here to watch films?
...come to my voice
and say a few words, sir.
ZAK:
During the first EVP session,
Billy captures
no unexplained voices.
I didn't hear anything.
ZAK: But this all changes
during his second session.
Lawrence Austin.
Was it you that showed yourself
in this theatre
to our audio guy?
[ Thump ]
Interesting that when
I'm talking directly
to these spirits, things move.
There's shadows.
There's different noises.
You get these weird
energy burst feelings
of cold air.
Not so much, uh, EVP.
It doesn't happen
exactly the way
you want it to every time.
All right, let's listen to this.
Maybe we captured a voice.
Was it you
that showed yourself?
It doesn't happen
exactly the way
you want it to every time.
MALE VOICE: Help me.
What was that?
It doesn't happen exactly
the way you want it to
every time.
MALE VOICE: Help me.
Did it say, "Help me"?
It doesn't happen exactly
the way you want it to
every time.
Did it say, "Help me"?
ZAK: Did John Hampton,
the original owner
before Lawrence Austin,
come through downstairs
to let us know how he died?
And now, upstairs,
in his old apartment
where he contracted the disease,
is he still feeling the pain
and searching for help?
As our film ends,
we can agree that it was
anything but silent.
What was that?
ZAK: Murder and betrayal in
the limelight and the shadows.
I just saw a face of a person!
We have experience
all of the elements
that make our time here
a classic Hollywood thriller.
Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.
It's like the witch's house
in a movie.
Don't go there!
The murder happened
right there,
shot point-blank,
in the face.
What was that?
Something just moved back there.
I just saw a face
of a person, right here!
-There's something on my neck.
-There it is again.
-What was that?
-Oh, my God. Who are you?
ZAK: The show is about
to begin.
Shh.
**
ZAK: There are things
in this world
that we will never
fully understand.
Understand.
We want answers.
Answers.
We have worked years
to build our credibility,
our reputation,
working alongside
the most renowned professionals
in the field,
capturing groundbreaking proof
of the paranormal.
-It's working!
-Whoa! What was that?
I can't give you
an explanation.
ZAK: This is our evidence,
our "Ghost Adventures."
**
ZAK: Guys,
we're in L.A. again.
You know, this is one of my
favorite places to investigate.
AARON: Yeah.
It's one of our favorite places
to investigate.
Yeah.
'Cause as soon
as you get here,
unlike any other city
in the country,
there's, like,
psychic fields here.
There's psychic energy here.
You have so many different
creative minds, you know?
People in film, TV,
art, music,
and you get all of that
imagination together
in one condensed area.
But what happens when
you take some darkness
and spill it into
this imagination pool?
So where are we headed?
We are gonna investigate
the Silent Movie Theatre
on Fairfax.
Ooh!
Built in 1942,
this celebrated vestige
of silent films
bears a dark curse that killed
its first two owners.
The most recent and violent
was that of Lawrence Austin,
who was brutally murdered
in this very lobby.
Austin would take tickets
right there,
and the murder happened
right there.
Jeez.
So this guy
was shot point-blank,
in the face, you know...
-Really?
...with a .357, I mean,
that's gonna do some damage.
What was the intent?
Why did he do this?
-Well...
-Who shot him?
Well this, kind of --
Well, see what happened is
they were showin' a movie,
and about 20 minutes
after the movie started,
this kid was sitting --
I think it was
about the third row back.
His name was
Christian Rodriguez.
And he came out, walked over
to the candy counter,
and he talked to Mary Giles,
who was working there.
She was 19.
And he says,
"I'd like to buy tickets
for an advance screening."
He did this while the movie
was still playing.
Right.
So the candy counter girl says,
"Uh, you gotta talk
to the owner."
So he walks over
to Mr. Austin
and he holds up
his .357 and he says,
"Give me your money."
And without hesitating,
pow, hits him in the face.
Then he turns around
and hits Mary Giles
twice in the chest,
and then he ran
through the theatre
and then he ran out
the back door
and through the alley
and -- and...
Just to rob 'em
for a few bucks?
Well, that's what everyone
thought originally.
So there's more to it.
Oh, God, yeah.
No, it's a great story.
Lawrence Austin
had a boyfriend who --
who was actually -- worked in
the projection room right here.
He was working that night.
Van Sickle was his name --
James Van Sickle --
and it turns out
that Van Sickle
offered the kid $25,000
to kill Austin...
What?!
...and an additional $5,000
to kill Mary Giles.
Do you believe, Scott,
that his ghost is here
at his theatre?
I absolutely believe
that he is still here.
You know, he's a hero
to a lot of people.
Austin saved films
that wouldn't exist anymore.
He adored Hollywood.
But now he's kinda etched
in his own movie
with all the ingredients
of a classic suspense movie.
ZAK: I now meet
the Silent Movie Theatre's
new business director, Drew,
in a very narrow
film storage room.
Things become extremely awkward
as we try and prepare
for the interview.
**
This is weird.
Sure you wanna do this in here?
'Cause I'm getting
little bit, like, panicky.
-It's up to you guys.
-Panic attack.
I'm very used to the strange
energy in this hallway.
Okay.
And so what you're experiencing
is very normal.
Okay.
This has been used
for film prints
since as far back as the '40s,
when this place was built.
We still hold hundreds
of old film cans.
If you really want to know
the haunted history
of this place,
it probably lives within
those film cans.
-That's a good analogy...
-Exactly.
...that all the emotions
from those actors,
all the laughter
from the audience...
-Yeah, exactly.
-...who watched that,
everything's preserved in...
-Into cans.
...these little files.
Yeah, in these cans.
So in these --
And there's even hundreds
of 'em down right there.
Okay, hang on.
[ Metal rattles, clatters ]
-Okay.
-Whoa!
-Sorry.
Okay, are you --
are you good right there?
-I'm good, go for it.
-Okay.
-Yeah.
-"Ghostbusters"!
Isn't there something
on film
that can make you, like,
cough and stuff?
All right, I'm going.
John Hampton,
the man who built this theatre,
dedicated his life
to the restoration
and preservation
of silent films.
But in a strange twist of fate,
his exposure to the extremely
poisonous chemicals
used in his pioneering pursuits
to save the old movies
would be the very thing
that killed him
in the upstairs apartment.
Okay. [ Exhales sharply ]
This is a little bit better
right here,
so can I talk to you
right here for a second?
Of course, of course.
Oh, I feel like I know
you really well now.
-Gets intimate really quickly.
-[ Chuckles ] Yeah.
[ Smooth jazz playing ]
[ Record needle scratches ]
Um, so let me ask you
about the hauntings here.
I've lived here my whole life.
I remember seeing basically
the dark cloud
hanging over this place,
after the murder,
before this organization
took it over in 2007.
-When was that gap?
-So it happened in '97,
Cinefamily took
this place over in 2007.
But for that 10 year period,
I remember, as a kid,
it was just this...
It's like the witch's house
in a movie.
It's like, "Don't go there.
That place is dark and creepy."
The haunted energy
is very strong.
It's over 100 years old,
and I think it's still winning.
Does the energy here make you
different when you walk in here,
than when you leave that door
and you're outside?
Yes. It's a portal.
It's almost like
the building itself
is one of those film cans
because it's seen
so many generations
of the movie culture
here in town...
Yeah.
...I think it has,
bottled into it,
a lot of the dark,
melancholy energies
of a lot of writers
and actors and directors...
Mm-hmm.
...and people who have --
It's weird you say that
because I said that
on the way here, in the car.
Same exact thing
that you just said.
That's what this place is.
ZAK: Right now, we're
in between our interviews,
and this is Mike.
Mike is our audio guy.
We were having a meeting,
and you're --
you guys were lookin' this way.
-Right.
So what I saw was over here,
and it was --
it was pretty dark,
but you could kind of see, like,
this silhouette here.
Yeah.
What I saw
was basically this...
Somebody just walked
right into here, like that.
-Into there?
-Yeah.
There's nothing back there.
There's nowhere to go.
How tall was it?
Did you see...
-Uh, probably like as tall --
-Nobody else saw this.
-This was just you.
-Yeah.
So get me some gear.
Go get gear right now.
This happens sometimes
during our interviews.
When Mike sees something,
you know he sees something.
He's been working for us
for a long time.
He's never seen a ghost.
I've only heard things.
I've never seen anything.
-Okay, and you saw this?
-Yeah.
The other staff members said
that this place is like
a portal.
We can see and find out
if these doorways
that these spirits
come in and out
could be in this closet.
I immediately use
the SB7 Spirit Box
to see if I can communicate
with whoever
our audio guy Mike just saw,
and what we hear next
is incredibly awesome.
[ Oscillating static ]
Who is here?
Who just walked through here?
Did we just see you?
Yes.
That was a "yes."
This is amazing.
We just had a spirit
answer us intelligently
and tell us
that our audio guy Mike
did, in fact, just see him.
With this spirit
in our presence,
we want to try and see it.
What happens next is
both exciting
and absolutely incredible.
What is that?
BILLY: I don't know.
There's no...
There's nothing
on that chair.
Shoot that chair, Aaron,
with your camera.
There's nothing there.
Why is there a heat signature
on the chair?
-I have no idea.
-Nobody was even sitting there.
-BILLY: Wow.
-ZAK: Look at that.
-That's crazy.
-What the hell is that?
AARON: That's a person's
back and legs.
BILLY: Exactly.
Looks like there's
a head there, too.
It looks like somebody
is sitting there
with their two legs
touching right here,
and, like, their back
hitting there,
and there's nothing else
in the entire thing.
There was nobody sitting now.
Now look,
all the other seats...
Nobody's been sitting here
at all.
AARON:
'Cause they're watching us.
We've been in here
the last hour.
Hey, that's 'cause
they're watching us.
-Oh, my God, dude.
-That's what it said, right?
It could be.
It said it could see you
or see us or something.
Yeah, it said that.
-Look, it's...
-Was somebody...
No! There's no one in here
but us.
ZAK: We are all 100% certain
that none of us
sat down in that seat
while we were in the theatre.
So, let me piece this together.
While we're in here filming,
Lawrence Austin is
sitting in this couch.
Lawrence Austin gets up
from the couch, walks over here.
Our audio guy Mike
sees him walk into here,
disappear into here.
Right where he disappeared,
we document a 5.0 EMF spike...
-AARON: Yeah.
-Count all the way down
to a .1 in the exact same spot,
debunking that it was any type
of static electricity.
Then after that,
we do Spirit Box
and we hear a "yes."
Did we just see you?
That was one hell
of a chain of events.
None of us have sat down
since we have entered
this theatre,
and no one else
is in here with us.
Later, we will uncover
incredible information
by a special guest of ours
to further prove
that this thermal capture
is from the same spirit
that just spoke to us.
-They're pulling up right now.
-Ready to have your mind blown?
There's a lot of
very cool things going on.
-Oh!
-[ Laughs ]
**
ZAK: Still in shock
from the intelligent response
captured at
the Silent Movie Theatre...
Did we just see you?
...I want to bring in
world-renowned psychics
Michael and Marti Parry,
who have the amazing ability
to not only communicate
with spirits
but also make sketches of who
they're communicating with.
On the count of three,
I want you take off
your blindfolds.
One, two, three.
Oh, it's bright. [ Chuckles ]
Okay, let your eyes adjust
for a minute.
Uh, there are a lot
of theatres in L.A.,
but we're in
a particular one.
-Okay.
-Okay?
And, um, I just
would like you guys...
I-I don't want
to say anything else.
-Right. Yeah.
-Okay.
We've covered up
a lot of stuff.
Just don't want that
to interfere anything.
MARTI: Good.
-Let's walk around a little bit.
-ZAK: Okay.
Michael will try to communicate
with any spirits that are here,
while Marti will use
that same energy to give us
an artistic impression
of these spirits.
Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.
-[ Clears throat ]
-ZAK: Out of the entire theatre,
Michael sits
in the same exact spot
where yesterday, we mapped in
the unknown thermal anomaly.
Is this just coincidence?
Definitely not.
ZAK: He used to sit here?
I asked him why
I'm sitting here.
He said,
"I used to sit here."
This is, like, his spot.
-ZAK: That's his spot.
-MICHAEL: His -- his spot.
ZAK: I want
to literally scream right now,
but I'm holding it all in.
Michael not only sits
in the same exact spot
as the unknown figure,
but tells us that this is
the spirit's
favorite spot to sit.
There's a woman here, too.
A lady.
-A young or old lady?
-30-ish.
[ Scratching ]
-AARON: What was that?
-ZAK: What was that?
What was that?
-Did you hear that?
-I heard something behind me.
It just came from back there.
Yeah, it was like
a scraping noise.
Yeah.
-Yeah.
-And I didn't hear it too well
'cause I had my music on,
but I did hear it.
ZAK: But you could hear
with your -- It was that loud.
Mm-hmm.
-What was that?
-What was that?
I can see someone standing,
kind of over where
that doorway is.
You saw someone standing here?
-It was a man and he...
-Did he just appear here?
He, sort of, came,
I suppose, through that doorway.
-MICHAEL: Can you feel him?
-ZAK: Yes, I can.
'Cause he said he's in you.
I just felt him,
and this is the first time
that I have felt anything
since we arrived here.
-Who is he?
-Hold on, hold on.
Are you getting any --
I'm gonna --
I'm gonna -- Hold on.
I'm gonna do
something here with him.
I'm gonna ask, like,
write some stuff down
and I'm gonna see
how you react.
-Okay.
-If you were to do anything,
what would you feel
like doing?
Kind of want to run.
[ Laughs ]
You wanna what? Run?
Run. I don't know why.
I just want to run.
I feel like I've got to run
over there and do something.
AARON: Right. Maybe that's --
He just wants to run.
Like, something needs to be done
in there. I don't know.
Go then. Do it, do it.
-It's weird.
-See what happens.
ZAK: I don't know why,
but as Michael says this spirit
has entered into me,
I can't stop moving my legs
and I feel as though
I just want to run
and run and run.
Before I do this,
Michael writes down
a couple words
that he receives from the spirit
to prove to me
that he is making contact.
You ready to
have your mind blown?
-What?
-I told you I would write down
a couple of things
that he might get you to do
so that you would know
that you were feeling him.
-Mm-hmm.
-And I wrote down "legs."
-And you said...
-Are you serious?
And you said,
"I feel like running."
I feel like running.
[ Laughing ]
What?
What the hell?
Oh, my God, dude.
That's, like, crazy.
AARON: And I convinced you
to run...
-No, just hold on.
-...and you did it!
This is just, like...
There's a lot of just, like,
very cool things going on.
That's crazy.
'Cause he wanted to do
something to you
so you would know
he was in you, you see.
And I thought he said,
"Rub legs."
But then I realized he said,
"Run legs, run the legs."
-Shoot.
-That's awesome.
ZAK: Having all these events
tied together --
our audio guy seeing a man
in the same spot Michael did,
capturing a thermal anomaly
of a figure
in the same exact spot
Michael sat down,
then Michael tells us
this is the favorite spot
where this man's spirit
always sits...
-This is, like, his spot.
-That's his spot.
His -- his spot.
ZAK: Then as Michael
communicates with this spirit,
he receives a psychic message
that he writes down,
proving to us without a doubt
that there is the soul
of a deceased body here
at the Silent Movie Theatre,
and it can
intelligently communicate
with us through voice...
Did we just see you?
...as well as telepathically
with a psychic medium.
The time has arrived
to reveal to Michael and Marti
where exactly they are.
It's also time to merge
the amazing
spiritual information
Michael has gathered
with the drawings
that Marti has been channeling.
So, Michael and Marti, um,
you two are at
the Silent Movie Theatre
on Fairfax Avenue.
When you guys walked in,
immediately, Michael,
you sat in the same exact spot
in this entire theatre
where we did
legitimately capture
an unexplained anomaly
on thermal,
in that chair,
that we could not debunk.
It was really cool.
Not only that, our audio guy,
who's a skeptic, Mike,
he saw a dark figure
standing at the doorway...
What I saw
was basically this...
Somebody just walked
right into here, like that.
-Into there?
-Yeah.
...that Michael, you saw.
And, uh, not only that,
that experience that I felt,
standing there, feeling
something around me,
the energy before you even
said it, was incredible.
Then you put me to the test.
So thank you
for letting me know
that I do have
some type of sensibility...
[ Laughs ] Yeah.
...um, that helps me.
Can we look...
-Yeah.
-...at the pictures you drew?
We now focus our attention
to finding out
who exactly the man's spirit is
that has been
sitting in this seat
and talking with us.
Does this look familiar?
MICHAEL: When I saw that,
I thought,
"Oh, that's the woman
that sat next to me."
Okay.
That was, like, 30-ish.
There's a woman here too.
A lady.
-A young or old lady?
-30-ish.
I keep getting the name
Douglas, um, Fairbanks.
That's totally him.
I just got a chill.
AARON: All right, let me get
a shot. Hold on, hold on.
ZAK: It's truly amazing
that they would
both feel the essence
of the great
Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
After numerous celebrations
of his work within these walls,
his films are burned
onto this screen,
and, evidently, his soul
fills this theatre.
How?
-Oh, my God, dude.
-AARON: Wait, wait, wait!
-That's incredible.
-Whoa!
ZAK: Earlier, Michael sensed
a presence in the theatre
that he felt suffered
from a heart condition.
Maybe just died
of a heart attack
or had heart problems.
That's definitely
Douglas Fairbanks.
Yeah.
ZAK: With any theatre,
many come and many go.
The next question is,
"When the lights go down,
what spirits will show up next
during our lockdown?"
One that's definitely
not silent.
-What's wrong?
-There's something on my neck.
What was that?
Something just moved back there.
Oh, my God!
**
Okay, right now,
we're getting ready to, uh,
start our investigation
of the Silent Movie Theatre
here in Los Angeles.
So I want to go right away
'cause we just released
Michael and Marti Parry
from the investigation.
We're finally all lights out,
and I want to run
right back there
and pick back up
where we left off with them
and see if we can
actually get more evidence
of who they were
just communicating with.
That was
absolutely unbelievable.
Let's go.
Okay, we are just getting ready.
We're in the spot where
Lawrence Austin was murdered.
We're gonna start off
by using SLS.
And I want to see right away
if we can see
what Michael and Marti
was communicating with.
-So...
-BILLY: Hold on, dude.
-I just want to...
-What's wrong?
Oh, there's something...
something on my neck.
Top of
my head and neck area.
Oh, my God!
-Aaron, look it!
-What?
There's a little person
on his shoulder.
-Shut up.
-Oh, my God. There is.
-Oh, my God.
-Dude.
Dude, it's touching
your neck.
I swear to God, dude.
It's touching your neck.
There is a little figure
and it has its arm on your neck.
It's really, really cold.
It's really cold.
You just said that.
Right here,
on the side of my neck.
You just said that.
He said that before
this was mapped.
Yep.
-Hold on, dude.
-I just want to...
-What's wrong?
Oh, there's something...
something on my neck.
AARON: You felt it,
and we caught it.
Top of
my head and neck area.
Oh, my God!
-It's happening.
-It happened.
It just went away.
-That was weird.
-Oh, my God.
It's super, super cold, too.
-Come here.
-Come here and feel this.
Come here and feel this.
Right here, right here!
Feel it.
That's freezing.
ZAK:
Something absolutely incredible
is happening right now
at the Silent Movie Theatre.
Just as Billy begins feeling
something touching his neck,
I turn the SLS camera
and capture
a small skeletal figure
on his arm
that can actually be seen
touching his neck.
There is no way to argue
that we are not capturing
irrefutable proof of a spirit
making physical contact
with a living person.
-It was touching your neck.
-I could feel it.
-And there was nothing behind.
-No.
It was a free floating figure
touching your neck.
That is awesome.
When you have physical
sensation of that...
-It just feels like...
-And we can see that...
He was probably welcoming me.
-I understand, but why...
-You know what I'm saying?
Why is it a little figure,
perched on his arm?
I don't know.
We don't know that.
It's like a little monkey.
It always shows up like that.
You ever notice that?
I think that it doesn't matter
the size.
I think the whole time
we're thinking spirit
is going to be as big as us
and all that.
-Right, right, right.
-Sometimes they are.
But I think that this translated
into a smaller figure.
-Right.
-Okay?
A free-floating thing
that's...
-Might be this tall.
-Shh, shh.
What was that?
Something just moved back there.
-What --
-[ Whispers ] Dude.
[ Thump ]
Oh, shh.
Be quiet.
That was one of
the most coolest,
incredible things
I've ever seen on SLS.
But there are banging noises
coming from back there.
The exact spot where
we just captured an SLS figure
touching Billy's neck
is the same area
where Lawrence Austin,
the theatre's previous owner,
was shot and killed.
Lawrence?
Was that you touching Billy?
AARON: Oh, I smell rotten egg.
Can you show yourself again
in the place where you died?
There's a bad smell.
Yeah, there's
a rotten egg smell.
What did Marti
write on her paper?
-Bad smell!
-Smells.
Oh, my --
Oh, I just got the goosebumps.
AARON: Can you guide us
while we walk inside?
Can you tell us
where our seats are?
Could really use some help.
-That was incredible.
-That was awesome, dude.
Hey, I haven't seen it,
but I felt it.
AARON: Yeah.
ZAK: Hey, Douglas.
Michael and Marti just made
contact with Douglas Fairbanks,
a famous silent movie actor.
Marti even drew his face,
and it was a perfect match.
Douglas?
Can you sit down in your seat?
Will you show us where you sit?
So right now, I'm just
scanning the seats,
trying to see if the spirits
that Michael and Marti
were just communicating with,
if one of them
that entered my body,
is sitting
in one of these chairs.
Who just showed yourself
with Billy, out in the lobby?
Can you now come in here
and take a seat
in one of these chairs?
I decide to switch
to the Spirit Box
to try to communicate
with Lawrence, Douglas,
or anyone else
who's still at the theatre.
Can you start off
by telling us your name?
[ Oscillating static ]
But for over 15 minutes,
we don't receive a single voice
until I see something
with my own eyes,
which has only happened
a handful of times
in my entire life.
-There's nothing.
-Nothin'.
Nothing.
Ohh.
AARON AND BILLY:
What? What? What?
-Oh, my God!
-AARON: What?
Aaron, I just saw a face
of a person right here.
No way.
God, I haven't seen that
in a long time.
Right in front of you
or down the hall?
Yes. It was a glowing face.
No, it was right here.
It was right here.
It was a face
and it was glowing.
I saw the face right here.
Who are you?
Am I in your spot and you don't
want me in your spot?
-What?
-That was a straight-up name.
ZAK: Inside the ominous
Silent Movie Theatre
in Los Angeles, California,
an entity
just revealed itself to me.
Aaron, I just saw a face
of a person right here!
Who are you? Feel the cold?
-My hands are cold.
-Ice cold, right here.
Right here.
Right where I saw it.
Tell me your name.
Peter.
-What?!
-That was a straight-up name.
That was it. That's a person.
That was a name.
That was a name.
That's the first name
that we've got...
AARON: Yes.
...since we've done
this whole session in here.
No voices comin' through.
We get the voice right
when I saw the face,
where I feel the cold.
I'm going to constantly link
these events together
so you can see how
the connection of events
leads to evidence...
-Right.
...that that's a spirit.
You can hear,
there's no voices
comin' through this.
-AARON AND BILLY: None.
-We're in Los Angeles.
This is how
our Spirit Boxes work.
They only play spirit voices
when they have them.
There is nothing
coming through.
That was incredible, man.
Tell me your name.
-What?!
-That was a straight-up name.
Why are you here
at the theatre?
What do you want to watch?
I think the spirit is here.
He spoke once.
He's a little shock
right now...
Right.
...seein' who we are
and what this is.
We now decide to split up.
Billy will be isolated
in the projection booth,
where Lawrence Austin's
ex-lover,
who also set up
Lawrence's murder,
once worked
as the projectionist.
Aaron will investigate
the old film storage hallway,
and I'll be taking
full spectrum photos
here in the theatre.
While in the projection booth,
Billy will be operating
the Paranormal Puck 2 device,
which uses several
environmental factors
to choose words from a database
that can be manipulated
by the manifestation
of spirits.
Would you like to speak to me?
We can use this device
to communicate.
Just tell me the words
to deliver your message.
Send me some words on here.
AARON: I'm just walking around
in here.
I'm just trying
to feel the energy.
Am I in your spot, and you
don't want me in your spot?
-Is the owner here?
-Larry.
Larry?
I just asked Paranormal Puck,
"Is the owner here?"
And it said, "Larry."
ZAK: At this moment,
Billy is unaware
that Larry is a common nickname
for Lawrence.
And as we now believe
that Lawrence is here
communicating with him,
before he can even type
his next question,
he receives
a heartwarming message.
Memories.
Memories.
Lawrence, is that you?
Michael Parry said
that you were reminiscing
and thinking about
the good times.
-Memory Lane.
-Is this you, Lawrence?
It kind of feels like you are.
ZAK: Just as Billy begins
reading the details
of Lawrence Austin's murder,
something moves inside
of the booth unexplainably.
"The 21-year-old trigger man
in the murder for hire for La--
"for Lawrence Austin will spend
the rest of his days in prison.
"In sentencing
Christian Rodriguez
to life without possibility
of parole..."
"...the judge..."
[ Click ]
What the hell was that?
"The judge..."
"The judge..."
Something just moved
inside this booth
as I'm reading this about
the murder.
I got full body chills
right now.
Lawrence, is that you because
I'm reading about your murder?
Okay, right now, what we're
doing is we're in the theatre.
We've got everything
set up on stage.
We've got
a full spectrum camera.
We've got a night vision camera.
We've got
a thermal imaging camera.
We also have the structured
light sensor camera.
Jay, what do you have
going up on stage?
Right here, it's an old
1970s film camera.
It shoots stills.
We had such great results
back at Alcatraz,
and being an old film theatre,
I thought it'd be a good idea
to use an actual film camera.
So wait, you're gonna do
extended exposures.
-Yep.
-Just like we did in Alcatraz,
when we did get an anomaly.
-Exactly.
So we've got
one, two, three, four,
five different
visual types of cameras
that we are gonna use right now
while we sit
out in the audience.
And I'm going to tell them
that we have a film
that's getting ready to begin.
We also have a bucket
of popcorn right over here,
next to the seat where we saw
on thermal before, the figure --
the unexplained anomaly,
actually,
that was sitting there,
that we believe was a figure,
the same seat where
psychic Michael Parry sat
and said that that's
the spirit's favorite seat.
Right over there is
where we saw the shadow figure.
Actually, our audio guy
and Michael Parry
also saw that figure,
the same figure
that passed through me
and channeled through me.
That was awesome.
So we got all these cameras
going. Let's sit down.
Jay, walk around to
the different cameras, do that.
See if you can capture anything.
Just as I'm heading to my seat,
a very large orb of light
seems to follow me
and as I turn into my row,
it abruptly turns and shoots off
in the opposite direction.
ZAK: Douglas?
Can you please sit down now?
BILLY: Lawrence Austin?
Lawrence, I know you're here.
ZAK: Guys, put your arms
out like this.
From side to side,
across the seats.
Don't touch the seats.
Can you touch our hands?
Sit down with us, please!
The show is about to begin!
The seat's down here,
and I know all these seats
were up.
Is there something around me?
There was just
a figure right here.
ZAK: We wait patiently
for an audience of entities
to join us in this iconic
Southern California theatre.
Sit down with us, please!
The show is about to begin!
Now put your arms up.
Do you see us sitting
in the audience?
Can you join us?
All right, at ease.
BILLY: Zak, I just saw
something dark in front of me
in this row in front of me.
-What's that?
I just saw something dark
from the -- the runway here,
in the row in front of me,
behind you.
All right, you ready to do
the experiment?
-Yeah.
-We'll do some stills.
Yeah. We would like everybody
in this theatre to join us
and sit in these seats now
for a photo.
-Ready, Jay?
-Yep.
Okay, go ahead.
ZAK: After taking several
extended exposure photos
using this old camera...
-Got a whole roll.
...we capture no evidence
of spirits around us.
Would the other spirits
that are here...
-Holy!
-What was that?
AARON:
Someone sat next to you?
My arm just started vibrating.
Yeah, this arm.
Yeah. There was some kind
of crazy flash on the SLS.
It wasn't a stick figure
but it was a flash.
What color was it, Jay?
-AARON: What is that?
-Do you know what it felt like?
It felt like a wasp or a bee
or something got stuck
in my jacket.
At the exact moment that I feel
my right arm start vibrating
as if something is touching it,
Jay captures
a strange light anomaly
right above my right arm.
This isn't just coincidence.
BILLY: I mean, earlier, it's
weird. It was inside of you.
So who knows?
Someone might be trying
to enter your body right now.
AARON: Are you the man
who affected Zak in the corner?
[ Squeak ]
-What was that?
-Did you hear that?
-Yeah.
-That was a seat going down.
-That was a seat going down.
-There it is again.
-Put your hands up.
Everybody, put your hands up.
Is that seat bouncing?
There it is.
There it is again.
What the hell?
It sounds like a seat.
-Is your hands up?
-Yeah.
Everybody put your feet up.
Quiet.
There it is again.
What?
That's a seat!
-Yeah?
-It sounds like a seat!
Quiet!
Good. We hear you.
That's a seat going down.
Is there any seats
going down, Jay?
-Is all your feets up?
-Yeah! My feets are up.
All right, we're just
doing this --
Ask --
Ladies and gentlemen, just so
you can see that none of us
are moving any seats.
There is a loud squeaking seat
going up and down.
Jay immediately uses
the SLS camera
to see if he can map in a spirit
who may be moving the seat down.
Just scan that area.
JAY: Oh.
I just got the chills, dude.
It's getting colder.
Aaron, I think you're right.
I think there are spirits
taking seats around us
right now...
There's spirits
taking seats down.
And that's what
that squeaking sound was.
AARON: I'm all shaky.
Are you guys just jelly?
-It's getting more and more...
-I am, like...
-Can you see anything?
-Nothing.
-It feels like...
-It's not even mapping you guys.
Well, hold on.
This seat's down here.
And I know all these seats
were up, weren't they?
-It's ice cold.
-Look, all these seats are up.
Yeah, they're all
supposed to be up.
There's a seat right here
at the end
where that sound was,
that's down.
-What? No.
-No, they should be up.
-They're all supposed to be up.
-They were up.
Zak, at the end of your row,
right here, there's a seat...
That's where I saw
the guy standing!
-The seat's down.
-Oh, my God. It is down.
ZAK: Could this seat
have mysteriously
moved down by itself
when we were hearing
the squeaking sounds?
When we rewind this x-camera
to the beginning
of our investigation,
you can see that this seat
has always been down
and did not lower by itself.
But then I discover
something else
that makes this exact
same squeaking sound.
All right, everybody
check for that sound.
-Hold on.
-Wait.
-Yeah, that sounded like it.
-This is it.
-Yeah, that's it.
-Yeah.
I'm sure a lot of 'em squeak,
but this is the -- this is
the damn squeaking sound.
-Can you do that again?
-Listen.
[ Squeaks ]
AARON: All right, I'm really
cold. I'm ice cold right now.
-I am freezing cold. Like...
-It got really, really cold...
-Yeah.
-...for no reason.
-Oh, oh. It is cold.
-Mm-hmm.
-Whoa!
-Are you as cold as I am?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa, whoa.
What? What do you got?
Is there something
around me?
-It's ice cold right now.
-Hold up.
I'm almost to the point
where I'm...
There it is again.
There it is again,
right about my hand.
There was just
a figure right here.
Is it true that
you're still here?
This is where
Lawrence Austin was murdered.
Did it say, "Help me"?
ZAK: In Los Angeles,
we see a figure inside
the historic
Silent Movie Theatre.
There was just
a figure right here.
Just as Aaron feels
an icy cold wave of air
directly in front of him,
I map in a skeletal figure.
Could this be the spirit
that's been making
the squeaking sounds
with one of the other
folding chairs or tables?
If you watch very closely,
you can see the figure's arm
actually moves in a way
that looks like it is trying
to push the seat
back into the upright position.
Right now, we're in the lobby
of the Silent Movie Theatre,
and right over here,
this is where
Lawrence Austin was murdered,
right here in the lobby.
So I know we've done
the Spirit Box
and we haven't gotten
a whole lot with it,
so I want to give it
one more try right here,
at the area that he died.
Lawrence?
Who's here?
[ Speaks indistinctly ]
-AARON: Holy crap.
-What was that?
BILLY: I don't know.
Who's here?
-Holy crap.
-What was that?
-It was like, bam, bam, bam.
-Three syllables.
-Yeah.
-Cancer.
ZAK: In 1942, John Hampton
first opened
the Silent Movie Theatre.
And after using toxic chemicals
in the upstairs apartment
to preserve thousands of films,
he would later contract cancer
and die in 1990.
It was like, bam, bam, bam.
Three syllables.
Yeah.
Yeah.
ZAK: Are we now speaking
with John Hampton?
Billy immediately runs upstairs
to John's old apartment
to see if he can
get further validation
on a different
communication device.
Sometimes, when we start talking
about spirits' past lives,
they get intrigued
and they get involved
and they give us signs.
Sometimes, it's through
some of our devices.
Sometimes it's EVPs.
Sometimes
they even show themselves.
John Hampton,
this is, um...
where you lived.
It would seem to me that you
would probably still be here.
Something that you loved
so much, this theatre,
why would you leave?
Is it true that
you're still here?
Do you like it when people
come here to watch films?
...come to my voice
and say a few words, sir.
ZAK:
During the first EVP session,
Billy captures
no unexplained voices.
I didn't hear anything.
ZAK: But this all changes
during his second session.
Lawrence Austin.
Was it you that showed yourself
in this theatre
to our audio guy?
[ Thump ]
Interesting that when
I'm talking directly
to these spirits, things move.
There's shadows.
There's different noises.
You get these weird
energy burst feelings
of cold air.
Not so much, uh, EVP.
It doesn't happen
exactly the way
you want it to every time.
All right, let's listen to this.
Maybe we captured a voice.
Was it you
that showed yourself?
It doesn't happen
exactly the way
you want it to every time.
MALE VOICE: Help me.
What was that?
It doesn't happen exactly
the way you want it to
every time.
MALE VOICE: Help me.
Did it say, "Help me"?
It doesn't happen exactly
the way you want it to
every time.
Did it say, "Help me"?
ZAK: Did John Hampton,
the original owner
before Lawrence Austin,
come through downstairs
to let us know how he died?
And now, upstairs,
in his old apartment
where he contracted the disease,
is he still feeling the pain
and searching for help?
As our film ends,
we can agree that it was
anything but silent.
What was that?
ZAK: Murder and betrayal in
the limelight and the shadows.
I just saw a face of a person!
We have experience
all of the elements
that make our time here
a classic Hollywood thriller.
Someone needs to stop Clearway Law.
Public shouldn't leave reviews for lawyers.
