which is still soaked

with the stains
of its horrific past.

I've been wanting
to investigate this place

for a really long time.

This restaurant
was the sight of a grizzly,

extremely disturbing
double murder.

But it is this murder
that is the cause for this also

being the most haunted building
in Mesilla, New Mexico.

Built in 1849, this was once
the stately residence

of the wealthy
and powerful Maes family.

But their time here
was short-lived

and their legacy tarnished
by this family tragedy

whose residual energy
cannot be suppressed

by the facade
of this 45-year-old restaurant.

This building was originally
the home of the Maes family.

Their son, Armando,

fell in love with,
I think, a servant.

Well, the Maes,
a big house like this,

they have
a lot of servants.

One of the servants was
a teenage girl named Inez.

The mother -- she apparently
was a big social climber,

had big plans
for the family,

especially Armando,
the oldest son.

One day, Mom comes home early
unexpectedly from a trip...

and she finds Armando and Inez
in Armando's bedroom.

Mom became so outraged

that she grabs
her sewing shears.

[ Screaming ]

[ Groans ]

She attacks Inez
and stabs her to death.

[ Screaming ]

And in the struggle,
she actually stabs her own son.

[ Screams ]

WOMAN: Armando!

And he died in that room
three days later.

After the murders,

they stayed here in Mesilla
about six more months,

and then they left because the
mother had a mental breakdown.

And the story is
that she went into an asylum.

ZAK: Did she die
in the asylum?

Apparently.

It is true
that you have a ghost room?

Well,
Armando's bedroom --

we called it
the Carlotta Room

when we turned it
into a dining room

because we didn't know
the story.

two chairs were brought
into the room.

And we do
tell people,

a crossroads of energy.

in this intersection,

the entrance
to the Ghost Room,

the same bathrooms
where you had this experience.

I hear, in my ear, clear as day,

that came to my mind was Inez,

which this was
part of the bedroom.

the same hallway to the kitchen

where we just had
this experience.

focusing the high levels

of residual energy
into these adjacent rooms

while creating a doorway
to the spirits,

accounting for the activity

we and the staff here
have experienced.

to help a team

who were victims of an attack.

And here in Las Cruces,

there is an old jail
and a courthouse.

Right now, I am going to speak
with a guy named Pat.

Pat was here
and witnessed something --

call it terrifying.

You guys sent some video

to us of this guy
getting attacked.

One of our investigators.

We got permission
to spend the night in here,

and we were given plans,
floor plans,

of the structure itself.

And on this
particular floor plan,

it said, "Insane room."

Insane room?
On the original plans?

So they housed
criminally insane in there.

I guess

the third floor.

So we decided to go up there
and do some EVP sessions.

And the three of us
were up there --

me, Ramiro,
and the investigator, Alex.

to antagonize the spirits.

by a disturbing energy.

a black figure...

as I'm standing here,

my reflection,

and changing shapes

when I was just standing here
zoned out staring at it.

When you enter a location

that may be infested
with demonic entities,

which attack people

and is reported
to have killed a woman,

it won't necessarily speak
via EVP

or give clear evidence
of its existence.

It will play mind games,
slowly attaching itself to you

and then revealing itself

what type of energy
does such a force feed on?

the hostility, all the anger,

all this negative energy
from all the inmates

acclimate ourselves
to the energy,

to the environment

and see if anything
wants to let us know

that it's here

and has manifested
in our presence.

our way through the bar area,

and as we approach
one of the dozens of rooms here,

Billy hears something
move inside.

And then I see something black
dart in front of me.

or something in this back room.

Sounds like it was
the far back corner back there.

ZAK: Whoa.
The hell was that?

There was just a very fast
black shadow that passed

right in front
of this chair.

At the same exact moment

that I see this dark shadow
dart in front of the chair,

on Billy's camera,
the dark shadow appears

as a very strange
light anomaly.

After further video analysis,
we debunk this anomaly

as not being
any type of flying bug or insect

as it stands to be unexplained.

Back at the prison,
there is cause for panic

as Aaron and Jay underestimate
how massive this building

truly is as Aaron gets lost.
