Face to Face (2019–…): Season 1, Episode 7 - Episode #1.7 - full transcript

Bjorn realizes that his daughter must have taken her own life after all. Vulnerable and grieving, he and his ex-wife say a final farewell to their child, but as they stand by the coffin, Bjørn sees something that changes everything.

- Richard speaking.
- Will you remove your people?

- Are you at the morgue, Bjørn?
- Will you?

- Rylander is in an induced coma.
- That's not good.

It's not good at all.
We have to handle this properly.

I just want to do one thing right today.

Okay, I'll talk to the men.
But hand over your gun and your badge.

You've got 30 minutes
and then I'll be waiting outside. Deal?

Thanks.

Copenhagen Hospital, the ID Room

FACE TO FACE

So you came.

I'm sorry.

It's okay.
You're here now.

We'll do this right.
Promise me that?

- Will you?
- Yes.

We're just going to say goodbye,
you and I.

For Christina's sake.

Yes.

Maybe you should go in on your own.

Be alone with her.

We're going in together.

Okay?

What were you looking for?
Richard says you...

I thought someone had hurt her.

There are people out there, who...

There are a lot of things I didn't know
about Christina. Until now.

- I was hoping that...
- What?

That she didn't die
because she was unhappy.

Did you find anything?

No.

She took her own life.

It was her alone.

Our little girl.

Bjørn.

I can't.
Give me a moment, please.

I often think about our last night
together as a family.

We had opened all the windows in the
bedroom because it was so hot outside.

We smoked.

Christina was there...

She was too big to lie between us
but also too small not to.

That's a long time ago now.

I just don't understand what happened.
We were happy.

What... what went wrong?

No, I can't.

Say it.

- Say it.
- I've tried to say it so many times.

There's something about you
that isn't healthy.

- You can't live like that as a family.
- Did you tell her why we split up?

- She asked me.
- And what did you say?

- That Mom screwed around.
- Bjørn...

She chose you.

I told her the truth.

That I loved you
but we couldn't live together.

You told her that?

- So I was sick. That was the reason.
- I don't want to discuss this, Bjørn.

- You could have said so many things.
- It beat telling her the truth.

I let her down. I wasn't there.

I didn't see her.
Many fathers are like that.

You saw her, Bjørn.
That's exactly what you did.

- What do you think I saw?
- Yourself! Something you can't stand.

You recognized something in her
that you hate in yourself.

Christina longed for you, to be with you.
But you couldn't deliver.

You didn't want to.

- You left. You took her away from me.
- I didn't take her away from you.

You didn't want her.
You'd left us long before, damn it!

- I tried with that horse, I really did.
- You what?

I'm no good at reaching out,
but I tried.

That horse... She wanted a father,
and she got a horse.

And you butchered it.

Now come and say goodbye properly.

I'm sorry, my little girl.

What are you doing?

- Don't do that.
- Her lip frenum...

- Don't touch her like that!
- Listen..!

- Don't do that.
- Look. Her lip frenum is torn.

You tear your lip frenum if someone's
covering your mouth and you resist.

- Come here.
- Why?

Just stand here.

The knife is plunged into her heart -

- turned a half-circle.

Our little girl.

- Frank.
- Now what?

It wasn't in the autopsy report.
The lip frenum. He didn't mention it.

- Who?
- Frank.

A torn lip frenum is
the first indication of assault.

- Frank could have done it.
- No. Frank couldn't have done it.

- What do you mean?
- He just couldn't.

How do you know?

Because Frank was in my bed.

- Last night?
- Yes.

- All night?
- Yes. All night.

- You're fucking Frank?
- I don't owe you a thing.

You can do as you please
and so can I.

- How long has it been going on?
- Just a few random times.

We bumped into each other.

- When?
- The first time was last Christmas.

Christmas Eve. You were supposed
to be with Christina, and I was alone.

Frank was on duty, his family was away,
and then... well.

Let's not argue.
Let's just be here with Christina.

Who the hell are you?
Who the hell are you?

I was there for her.
You didn't know the girl lying there.

- But you did?
- Yes.

You do know she did other stuff than
homework, right? She was fucked up.

- I know everything.
- I doubt it.

I tried to stop her, but I couldn't.

Why didn't you tell me?
Why the hell didn't you tell me?

- I asked Rylander to help, he tried...
- Rylander?

Rylander?
Do you know what kind of guy he is?

He blackmailed her.
Did you know that?

- No.
- Well, he did.

I should have looked after her.
I should!

But you weren't there, were you?!

Did they meet back then?
Christina and Frank?

No, of course not.

- But she came home to you?
- When?

Last Christmas, when you took a photo
of her on the kitchen floor. Drunk.

- Yes.
- Yes.

So Frank and Christina must have met.

- Why is that important?
- Frank said he'd never seen her before.

When did you take the photo?

- When I woke up the next morning.
- What time did Frank leave that night?

- What time?
- I don't remember.

- I had fallen asleep when he left.
- You were asleep when he left?

So they could have met?

Yes. I guess so.

Bjørn!
