I'm testing to see
which prehistoric

marine creature was...

Alright. What is it?

I'm testing to see which
prehistoric marine creature

was the apex predator:

a prehistoric shark
or a prehistoric whale.

What's an apex predator?

They're incredible.

Apex predators are animals
that are so powerful

that no other animal
can eat them.

They're basically
undefeatable.

Easy, then.

The shark would be
the apex predator.

Interesting prediction.

Why do you think the Megalodon
would be the top predator?

Uh, because sharks are...

sharks.

They're designed
to hunt things.

Yeah. They're definitely
better than a whale.

You've obviously never
heard of the Livyatan.

No, Dad, wait!
I called the washroom.

Are you sure you don't

It's hard to pilot
a submarine on my own.

Captain Dana
was on the hunt

did she know

she wasn't
the only one hunting.

The sound scanner
has detected

something behind me.

But I'll need to confirm
what it is with the periscope.

[sonar pings]

[grunts]

I can't pilot the submarine
and look through the periscope

at the same time.

I'll have to turn off
the engine.

[engine & rotor noise
slowing & fading]

In this corner,
Megalodon.

The largest shark
of all time.

Ten times bigger than
today's great white shark.

And this one's coming
from the front.

And in this corner,
Livyatan.

Same size
as the Megalodon,

but with a much
bigger mouth.

Bigger mouth,
bigger bite.

Let the prehistoric marine
apex predator experiment begin!

[periscope beeping]

Megalodon has spotted
the Livyatan.

And the Livyatan
has spotted...

[periscope beeping]

...me!

I need to get
out of the way!

[engine & rotors
fire up]

[sonar pinging]

[alarms blaring & buzzing]

[thump]

[loud thud]

[thudding & banging]

Finally.

[chuckles]

imagining.

through the periscope

and pilot the sub,

I wasn't able to get

of the charging

[computer rattles]

I've got two
sound scanner hits!

Perfect.

[periscope beeping]

Megalodon and Livyatan
are closing in on each other.

Now's our chance
to see which one

is the ultimate
apex predator.

[periscope beeping]

Both marine creatures
weigh about the same -

about as much
as five elephants -

but the Megalodon is way faster
than the Livyatan.

Will speed be enough
to win the day?

There's only one way
to find out.

Megalodon is going after
the Livyatan,

and the Livyatan is...

[periscope beeping]

...coming toward
our sub again.

Pilot Saara,
hard right!

Aye-aye, Captain.

Nice work, Pilot Saara.

This is further
in the experiment

than I got before.

Now the Livyatan is...

charging toward
the Megalodon!

Miss!

The Megalodon swam out
of the way of the Livyatan,

and...

And what?

And what?!

[computer beeps & rattles]

[periscope beeping]

And now the Megalodon is
coming right towards us.

Sound the alert!
And dive!

Dive, dive!

Diving!

♪ ♪

[alarms blaring & buzzing]

The Megalodon is
coming around again!

We need more speed!

I can't pilot the sub

and be in the engine room
at the same time.

♪ ♪

Captain Dana, what
are your orders?

[alarms continue]

[Dana] Next up, more Dino Dana!

[squawks]

We can't look through
the periscope, pilot the sub,

and be in the engine room
at the same time.

Sounds like we need
an engineer.

And I know just
the right person.

You would do anything to
protect us from dying, right?

Engines are ready to speed up
on your orders, Captain.

Now let's finish this
experiment once and for all.

The Megalodon
has the strongest bite

of any creature
that ever lived,

but the Livyatan
has the largest teeth

of any animal
that ever existed.

So which is better,

strong bite
or large teeth?

Looks like science
is about to find out.

Miss.

But now the Livyatan
is heading right for us.

Dive! Dive! Dive!

Diving.

Nice piloting,
Pilot Saara.

Thank you, Captain.

And it might be
as far as we get.

Looks like the Megalodon
is closing in.

Engineer Dad,
we need more speed.

Ah, was there
ever any doubt?

Actually, I wasn't
sure for a while there.

Cancel the alarm.

We might just complete
this experiment after all.

Pilot Saara, chart a course
that will keep us

just outside biting distance
of those creatures.

On it, Captain.

It looks as though they're about
to charge each other again.

Sure.

It's a bit boring
in the engine room on my own.

Go ahead.

Ouch. That's got to hurt.

Not as bad as that tail swipe.

I think the Megalodon
is injured.

[whale sound]

And look:

now the Megalodon
is swimming away.

It's retreating.

[whale sound]

But what's
the Livyatan doing?

[whale sound]

I think it's
going to breech.

Breech?

Scientists think that whales
jump out of the water

to tell other whales
that they want to play

or just show other
whales who's the boss.

I think it's saying
it's the boss.

Which means...

...that the Livyatan
is the apex predator.

No other animal would dare
take something on that powerful.

Prehistoric marine creature
apex predator test complete.

[gasps]

What happened?

It looks like
the Livyatan hit the sub.

Uh, maybe it just
wants to play...?

Or it thinks we're
another predator in the water.

Well, it's right.

Livyatan may have been the apex
predator in prehistoric times,

but people are
the apex predator today.

Engineer Dad,
return to your station

and give me everything
you got from those engines.

Aye-aye, Captain.

Pilot Saara,
prepare to breech the sub.

Understood, Captain.

Let's show this whale
who's the boss.
