Catfish: The TV Show (2012–…): Season 7, Episode 19 - Mike & Joey - full transcript

Nev and co-host Jane Carrey help aspiring sugar baby Mike choose between his Los Angeles life of leisure and his deep affection for the mysterious Joey, a broke mechanic he fell in love with on Grindr.

- Mike met this hot guy on
Grindr, Joey.

- I really poured my heart out
to him.

He was there to listen to me.

This is nerve-racking.
We are so close.

- All right.
So, this is it.

- Oh, no.
No.

- Hello?

- Oh, my God.

- I don't know if there's
anyone in here.

- This is ridiculous.

[dramatic musical sting]

- Hey, everyone.
Nev, here.

And welcome back to "Catfish."

This time around,

we're attempting the
impossible:

trying to find someone who can
take the place

of the legendary silver-fox,
Max.

In the next weeks, we'll have
lots of cool people join us.

People like, artist,
Tallulah Willis.

- He needs to be wowing you.

- Model, Kamie Crawford.

Wow!
- I knew it.

- And NBA star, Nick Young.

How's it going, man?

It's gonna be a wild ride,

as we search for
a new co-host.

This week--very lucky
that we have

Jane Carrey.

Aside from being the daughter

of her funny, famous
father, Jim,

Jane has made her own path.

Jane's a rock star, literally.

Her music and videos

She's even made the Hollywood

She's an awesome singer,
hardworking, single mom;

and most importantly,
a "Catfish" super fan.

and he was there to listen
to me.

- All right, so you get
out to San Diego.

Was he like, your go-to
call when you were--

- Yeah.
- In a tough spot?

- Because he knew like,
a lot more intimate feelings

than like, friends did.

And my friends know me
as very confident.

- Joey knows a little bit more
of like, the vulnerable side?

- Yeah.
I'm myself around him.

I would talk to him if I
was feeling sad or homesick.

And he was always there to
comfort me.

- Do you call him?

- Yeah.
- You're talking on the phone?

- We'll speak for like, hours.

- And you don't think there's
any chance that

like, it could be someone
you know

pretending to be Joey,
do you?

- No. It doesn't sound like
any of my friends.

Not that I know of.

- Did you push to FaceTime
and video chat?

- I did push, but there
was always a technical error.

The one and only time he got
it to connect,

it was pitch-black.

I was like, "Are you
kidding me right now?"

He said that it was his camera.

And I was like, "That's
bull-crap."

- Did you guys ever talk
about meeting up?

- We talked about him
coming out here,

but it's always like,
a financial excuse or work.

And I know Joey's not the
richest.

- So, on one hand, you say
you just want to sort of meet

a successful man who wants
to have you

be a trophy husband.

- Mm-hmm.
- On the other hand,

you're talking about making
compromises for love.

- Yeah.
- I don't know that those

two things are necessarily
going to cross paths.

- Yeah, which is weird
right now, for me.

[laughs nervously]

I'm kind of at an impasse,
where I can go either route.

- All right, I think we need
to see this guy.

- Yeah.

- Wow, not what I expected.

- No he's not. Don't say that.

- He's got some--some gauged
earrings.

You know, he's got some
tattoos.

- I know, tattoos are hot.

- All right, I get it.
He's a very good-looking guy.

- Yeah.

- Do you think you want to
meet Joey

to find out that he's not
who he says he is,

so that you can just move on?

- I want to believe

That it's him.

I'm really serious about this.

- But if it's him, then
that's a bigger issue for you.

- If Joey's real--
- Yeah, exactly.

- If he's not real,
then makes it easier for me.

- That's what I'm saying.
- Yes, exactly.

- But if he's real,
then all of a sudden

you gotta think like,
"Aw man." That doesn't match up

with your vision for yourself.
- I mean--

- As a SoCal sugar baby.

- But, let's face it.
I mean, I'm only gonna be hot

till like, I'm like, 29
or something like that.

That's like, when it all goes
downhill from there, right?

- Well, I know that this isn't
going to last forever.

It's scary.
So...

I really wanted to give Joey
a shot,

because, it's not so
superficial.

- I hope it works out for you.
- Thank you.

- We'll do some work, and we'll

do it a lot.

- Great. So, let's start

- Oh!

We got something--
- Schwing.

- On the dick pic.

not have been his.

- Who are his followers?

- Joey has 500 and something

but they are very random.

Like, Colorado.
- Yeah.

Alabama, San Francisco,
Thailand.

I mean, his friends are from--
- Everywhere.

- All over the place.

like, lots of random
friendships.

- I hope this is going

in a positive direction.

But, I mean, if it doesn't
work out,

I'm ready to be
a trophy husband.

Like, I watch "The Real

like, everything, so I've
studied for years.

- But "The Real Housewives of
Beverly Hills," it's not

necessarily real life.

My parents had problems,
and I had problems.

Wealth doesn't make you
happy, necessarily.

Regardless of being on TV
because of it.

- I mean...
- And honestly,

the fact that you're exploring
the Joey-relationship,

makes me feel like you--you
want something more.

And that you're willing to give
up that thing

that you've been saying that
you've been

so passionate about from day
one, to be happy.

- I don't know.

Um, I don't really even know
what's drawing me to Joey.

Like, it's weird.
It's like weird,

chemical reaction
kind of thing.

- Like, maybe you're trusting
your heart and your gut.

- Yeah.

- So, why don't we just show
you what we found?

And we can try and all make
some sense of it.

All right.
The first thing we did,

obviously, is we went to do
an image search.

Now, when we googled that
picture he sent you

of his sweatpants...
- [laughs]

Yeah.
- We got a hit.

And it turned up on a
Pinterest account.

So, he clearly found this
picture on the internet

and lied.

- Yeah.
- Well, then that's not fair,

because I sent him an
actual nude photo.

- Full nude?
- I was like, from my back.

- Okay.
- It was just a butt shot.

- Okay, so, then we searched
the phone number.

And that gave us a hit.

The number you have is
probably like, a VoIP or--

- Okay.
- Internet phone number.

- Sketchy.
- Yeah.

- It could mean something
simple and technical

or it could mean that he is
intentionally

keeping you separate from his
life in some way.

- Well, I feel like if he
was keeping me separate,

he wouldn't be so, you know,

open about it on his Facebook.

- That's true.
But, when we looked through

his Facebook, there isn't
a lot on there.

And the friends are from
all around the world.

That guy--
- He has 500 friends.

None of them are from
his hometown.

- Well, I don't know how
he knows people way across

the world, if he can't even
come across the United States.

So...
- Well, Right.

He clearly doesn't know
these people.

- So, that was odd.
- Mm-hmm.

- Now, when we looked a little
bit more closely, at--

- Scrolling.
- His posts on his wall,

we came across this one.

Someone said, "You were
right all along.

My battery totally needed
to be replaced."

- I didn't even see that.
- So, we sent her a message.

She called us.
- Oh, that's good, right?

That's good.
- And we FaceTimed.

That's hot.
- To make sure that

she's really her.
- Mm-hmm.

- And she is.
She's the girl in the pictures.

She told us that she was
at Starbucks,

came out to start her car.
It wasn't starting.

And that some guy--some
strange guy,

came across the street
and offered

to help her jumpstart her car.

- Okay.
- And it was Joey.

And she then said,
"Well, thanks."

And I guess she became
Facebook friends.

- Mm-hmm.
- Okay, that's good.

- She then said, "He talks
about his friend Mike a lot."

- Mm-hmm.

- And so, all of that was like,

"Oh, this Joey is just a
stand-up guy,

who helps strangers, ends up
becoming friends with them,

and talking about his
long-distance BFF, Mike.

But it all just felt
too good to be true.

That this girl--
- Yeah.

- Would post on his page,
and then tell us this perfect

piece of information of how
he's this sweet guy.

And he's totally real, and she
seemed a little too helpful.

- Yeah.
- And if it is really him,

why has he been so shady?

Why is he sending you
